Okay so I know a lot of people hate on this ship, but seriously, I think this is one of the three??? Four??? Canon ships in power rangers EVER that I think I like.

They’re so CUTE.

Like hear me out, despite Disney’s “CUT THE ROMANCE” policy (great fan of it, btw) they made it like Theo liked her, but he never had the guts to actually TELL HER he liked her. Theo is… shown as underconfident in everything except his Pai Zhuq training. He’s got stage fright. He was probably bullied in school. He lashes out. He’s definitely not a “Mr. Perfect”.

He likes Lily, but Lily IS indeed, perfect. And he feels that he doesn’t match up. This leads to him always trying to confess, but failing for some reason or another. And then, when he actually feels like he’s getting no signals from Lily, he abandons the chase. I know its pessimistic behaviour, but at least he wasn’t one of those “gonna chase you until you say yes” type of guys <3

So yeah, I think that’s a green flag.

BUT. THE WAY. THEY HANDLED IT. IN THE LAST SCENE.

LILY KNEW THEO LIKED HER. BUT SHE ALSO KNEW THAT UNTIL HE ASKS HER HIMSELF, AFTER GETTING OVER HIS INSECURITIES, THE RELATIONSHIP WOULD NOT WORk. She knew Theo needed ✨character development✨ and she was WAITING for him. To get over his insecurities. If she’d have asked him out, he probably would’ve thought that “she just liked me because she found nobody better.” Or “she’s dating me out of pity for me.”

By waiting for HIM to confess, not only does she boost his self confidence, but she also ALSO sets those insecurities to rest, AND she makes sure their relationship would not have the unnecessary dramas.

Lily is… more than perfect. Jungle Jungly fury established that. She’s an Angel. She’s good for him. And she chooses to be with him, because she knows he’s good for her.

Will Zoro leave Luffy after they achieve their dreams? Not likely

Saying Zoro's gonna voluntarily leave Luffy at the end of OP so he can "live his own life" (i.e. get married, open a dojo, hang out in bars) is so wild to me. That's like saying Luffy's gonna give up adventuring so he can sit around and gorge himself on meat

First of all, it ignores that Zoro genuinely enjoys traveling with Luffy. Luffy (who's always getting into trouble) gives Zoro the chance to be his best self. And Zoro (who very much wants to be his best self) will always seize that chance with both hands

Second, both characters are like...the poster children of wanting to have their cake and eat it too. If you're Luffy or Zoro, you rarely need to make either/or choices. That's what makes them unique. It's why they've both got conqueror's haki! Basically: If Zoro wants to drink until he blacks out? If he wants to nap all day? Hell, if he wants to get lost in a paper bag?? He is like a big cat. He will do what he wants, wherever he is. He doesn't need to leave Luffy to get those things LOL

Third, Luffy's made it clear the Pirate King needs no less than the Greatest Swordsman by his side. Why would that suddenly stop once they've both achieved their dreams? Is Luffy going to quit being Pirate King? Why would he? Luffy wants to be the most free in the world, so he can live the life he wants...with the people he wants to live it with

In other words, Luffy isn't letting Zoro go without a fight — not unless Luffy genuinely feels he's no longer the type of man Zoro would want to travel with. And wouldn't that be the worst ending for both of them?

i think there's something to be said about what exactly it means to be "non-human" in a story that is as much about humanity as wolf 359 is, where even the dear listeners are defined less by their own perspective and more by what they fail to understand and therefore reflect about the human perspective - to the point that they don't even have their own voices or faces or identities that aren't either given to them or taken from humans. they speak to humanity as a mirror.

even pryce and cutter are "very much humans" - pryce defined by her resentment of and desire to transcend its limitations, and cutter by his aspirations to redefine and create a "better" type of human - and find the idea that they might not be human laughable. it's interesting that they have distinctly transhumanist aspirations when their goal is the narrative opposite of common science fiction fears: that we will expand the definition of humanity so much that we'll lose whatever it is that makes us human. pryce and cutter's transhumanism narrows the definition of humanity to the worthy and the useful, as defined by them; "there will still be a humanity; it'll just be our humanity."

in direct opposition to that, i think it's meaningful that the show instead expands the definition of humanity in ways that include lovelace and hera, who in another show with different themes might be considered (in the descriptive, non-moralistic sense) non-human. i will always make a point of saying that personhood and humanity are two often-related but meaningfully distinct concepts, especially when talking about sci-fi and fantasy. i am talking about humanity.

the question of how hera identifies, and what social pressures influence that, is a complicated one. i've talked about it before and i will talk about again. what's important for the purposes of this post is that i think the show considers her fundamentally human. think about her role in shut up and listen - consider jacobi's lion example and the concept of different paradigms - that even things that are close to humans, comparatively speaking, understand the world in different ways. whatever differences hera may have from the others, it's primarily in experience, not fundamental understanding. she shares their emotions, their concerns, their values, their thought patterns. she has an appreciation for music, which the show considers a hallmark of humanity. she fits within the framework of humanity as the show defines and is, in her own words, left feeling "uneasy" about how difficult it might be to communicate with beings who don't. and it's significant that this takes place in shut up and listen, of all episodes, specifically because the way she is clearly and unambiguously included in the show's understanding of what it means to be human highlights the ways she and lovelace are othered by eiffel's careless comments that suggest otherwise.

(i don't want to get too into these details for this particular post, but it's worth noting that hera will refer to 'humans' as a category, often when she is upset and feeling isolated, but has never said that she 'isn't human' - she has never been upset that people are treating her 'too' human. i've seen it said about the line "you need to get it through your heads that what goes for you doesn't always go for me", but that's a frustration related to ability and safety, not identity. far more often, she will refer to herself in 'human' terms - referring idiomatically to experiences or body parts etc. that she doesn't literally have - and is upset primarily with comments referring to her status as an AI. it does not diminish how being an AI influences her perspective and experience, but again, so much of that is in terms of ability that it feels almost inseparable from a discussion about disability.)

lovelace's humanity and hera's humanity are so interlinked and directly paralleled in the text that i think it's impossible to really argue one of them is "not" human without making implications about the other. in desperate measures, lovelace tells kepler he's "not human" and he responds "you're hilarious. on a multitude of levels." later, defending lovelace against kepler's repeated dehumanization, hera very pointedly uses the phrase "that woman." in out of the loop, hera says she's never met anyone who "worked so hard at being inhuman" as jacobi, who says "what do you know about being human?" hera very emphatically responds, "i know plenty." later, defending hera against jacobi's repeated dehumanization, minkowski pointedly uses the phrase "that woman." with the care taken towards language and the way scenes and turns of phrase will parallel each other, that's not a coincidence. it might seem strange to have the "non-human" characters be the ones to express criticisms based on perceived "humanity" (something hera will do in other contexts as well - "we don't have funerals for animals" etc.) but in the broader context of the show, i think it's the point.

so, whether hera would ever call herself human, or be comfortable with that, is a complicated question for another time and depends on a lot of other factors. but wolf 359 is a show about humanity, it includes her within its definition of what it means to be human, and i wouldn't be comfortable definitively saying she's not human because of that. it can't be a neutral statement within the particular context of this show.

Okay i have yet to see a post about this that isnt filled with ppl being Annoying as Fuck on it, but,

theyve found wreckage of the submersible, it imploded (thank god, thats better than a drawn out suffocation over the course of several days, implosion means it was pretty much instantaneous) and the us navy have revealed they heard a weird sound on sunday from about where communication with the sub was lost, that was probably the sound of the implosion, [implied that they didnt say anything cos they didnt want to jump to conclusions without evidence of a wreckage, if there was a chance they were still alive.] no idea what the banging sounds were.

I do hope rescue efforts are extended to the migrants off the coast of greece, and am angry and horrified at their mistreatment, and that the media clearly cares less for their fates than that of the billionaires on the sub.

I left some tops of plants I had let go to seed (a couple different lettuces, radishes, and mustard greens) that I harvested to save seeds from in open paper shopping bags outside to give the bugs that were on them time to skedaddle before I brought them inside to pick all the seeds out to save them but yknow... ADHD, out of sight out of mind lol so I forgot about them for a few weeks and sure all the aphids and squash bugs left, but in that time a bunch of tiny little spiders moved in. Which is still better tbh (I'm honestly fine with spiders especially little ones but I absolutely DETEST squash bugs, and the aphids I just don't want to spread to my indoor plants) but also inconvenient. Guess I will be wearing gloves while I seed harvest and doing my seed harvesting sitting outside instead of inside.

He trots down the mossy cobblestone walkway, gazing around in awe as he approaches the central hub of the small city. Tiny shops and stalls and carts are woven through the few clusters of taller buildings, with a modest crowd bustling back and forth between them. Despite much of the land being cleared for structures and pathways, it's still lush with greenery wherever it can be, every blank stone wall or street corner dotted with trailing vines and flowering fruit trees.

After spending a good 25 minutes trying to orient himself at the city map directory, he finally finds his way onto one of the primary shopping streets, eager to spend the afternoon lazily strolling about, trying to ignore his physical aches and just take in all the sights as he hunts for interesting items....

...A few hours (and multiple snack breaks) later, the streets begin to glow with a hazy warmth as lanterns are lit, marking the nearing sunset. Possibly because of the fight yesterday, he's felt shakier, more easily startled than usual, and suddenly realizes an urgent need to be safely inside his room at the inn before nightfall. He wanted to stay out longer, see the lights and the crowds, fascinating scenes of city nightlife he's never been exposed to before.. but, his nerves are impossible to ignore.

Begrudgingly preparing to slink off towards the inn in a sweaty anxious panic, he stops in the doorway, resolving to at LEAST buy himself ONE nice item before he leaves. He doesn't have much money, sure, but it'd be a shame to simply look around all day and not get anything. All travelers need to collect their souvenirs, right? But.. What should he get?

Recording some Ace’s true origins speculation before they drop the revelation bomb in my lap, which I don’t need to go insane because I already have

An old soul

- As a child Ace was given a coin with Julius Caesar on it by Mitsume. He last sees her dressed in robes stereotypically associated to ancient times before entering a (presumably) ancient building

- In the first arc Ace often quipped about past events/historical figures and how things in the DGP have been like this for a long time

- Claimed he’s been fighting since 1 A.D. Either his guaranteed entry in the DGP gives him immortality, he’s of a long-lived species, he’s participated since the games’ conception, or a DGP round took place in 1 A.D. and Ace somehow followed it there

...or not?

- He mentions a previous DGP round involving the cactus Jyamato had wiped out all the players, an entire area and its inhabitants. However, it’s set in modern-day Japan, and Ace states this occurred prior to him joining

- We never see what clothing he’s wearing when Mitsume left him. The same goes for when he wrote his true wish but the Desire Card rejected it

- There’s a 2008 elementary school entrance photo of him with a completely different mother (Mika Ukiyo) and father

- Gene/Ziin/Jean’s admiration started when he first watched Ace fight the Jyamato as a modern-day high schooler. He’s went as far as to dig up Ace’s history and discovered said photo

- Mitsume’s a former DGP navigator - and Tsumuri plus the executives are from the distant future, not the past. Speaking of which, said staff never knew she had a son and that’s what gets them to change up the game’s format, in hopes of Ace slipping up

- Who says you need to be over two thousand years old to talk about the Sengoku period and quote Greek philosophers as times gone by? Basically Ace is a history geek lol

- Neon’s father is a previous DGP winner. His prize? A child aka Neon. While we don’t know if he never had a child to begin with or the original Neon died during the kidnapping + he sought a “replacement”, that places his participation somewhere between 10~18 years ago (as of 2022; 2004-12). Ace's confirmed to have never lost one of his entries before Girori’s sabotage. This also implies former champions become DGP sponsors who fund the game and provide media play, should the DGP setting fall into their lifetime

- Going back to high school - Ace (“b. 2001″) first became a DGP participant at 16~18 years old (2017-19). He’s currently 21 (as of 2022), so he’s been fighting for the last 3~5 years. In episode 10 we see Tsumuri with four fulfilled Desire Cards:

Either because they were eliminated DGP players or NPCs within a now erased area aka the previous cactus Jyamato game. And if Sara’s born in 1998 like her actress - making her two years older than Keiwa (22) (b. 2000) - she would’ve been in high school during 2014-16; placing this event before Ace joined

- Considering how much influence DGP supporters have, perhaps NPCs who catch the audience’s eye are invited into the next game. Given how meticulous, intuitive and sharp Ace tends to be, I wouldn’t be surprised if he approached the Jyamato specifically to get someone’s attention. Even if he doesn’t know about his mother being a goddess, surely he knows a few tidbits

- The last few DGPs have happened consecutively, but it isn’t impossible for the DGP show to go on “hiatus” + Ace wanders around for a while

- Going by the Dawn DGP’s length and Ace’s 1 A.D. claims, each game takes an average six months to complete, two per year; a total of 4044 games. If going by Encounter and Scheme - roughly two months, six per year - he’s completed 12 132 games. But we’ve seen less than four fulfilled Desire Cards, and why would it take that long to test the prize’s limits? At that point he might as well live out his life with friends and figure out the existential crisis himself

What if he’s selective in the games he participates? His first wish was to always be given an invite to the DGP + he’s set up countermeasures in case he loses

What if each game has varying time periods to complete? No word on that. Also, as boring as the supporters claim the distant future is, I doubt most audiences would watch a reality television season lasting several years. At least I wouldn’t

What if his win streak isn’t what it is? Niram confirmed Ace has been unbeatable since his entry

What if Ace traveled across time, seeing how DGPs take place in different eras? The staff would get suspicious as there’s only so many identical strangers and descendants/ancestors you can encounter. Unless being trapped in the DGP, regardless of where you’re from, makes that commonplace. Plus we’re talking about the same staff who had a bored, sadistic high schooler hijack their television series despite confirming she isn’t the first to attempt this, but I digress

- Some off-topic timeline stuff: Michinaga (b. 2001) and Tohru have been friends since high school, maybe longer. The latter was 20 years old when he died; placing his participation in 2021, roughly during Ace’s second DGP. So Michinaga’s first DGP would’ve been the Dawn round in 2022, age 21

Actual Ace’s true origin theories, ranging from debunked to logical to pure nonsense but it’s fun to think about

- Ace was an archaeologist who unearthed the DGP and broke its seal several centuries/decades ago. He’s trapped in the game, hence his eternal youth, and watched his co-workers despair/get destroyed for the DGP staff’s entertainment. Even when he tried wishing for the game’s destruction, his Card got rejected, so he fights back by testing the system’s limits + winning as fast as possible to prevent more lives from being lost. He’s memorized every possible setting, Jyamato tactic, etc. and is a walking DGP manual

- Ace and a certain town have been stuck in a DGP-inflicted time loop. He met Keiwa and Neon in the past and forged a connection, but they’ve forgotten about him

- Our Ace is a highly evolved Jyamato born from original Ace Ukiyo soil during Mitsume’s navigator tenure. If they can recruit grandpas in a death game, then children aren’t out of the question. While he’s not meant to exist, Mitsume took pity on him and raised him in secret; thus he considers her his mother. Eventually she had to leave him behind in an unknown time period, and so he grew up, waiting for her return. Fighting in the DGP partially quells his species’ innate bloodlust + it explains his existential crisis

- Mitsume’s the Goddess of Creation who created Ace through the future’s advanced eugenics technology or her powers. If the latter, the staff considered the personal use as a violation and resolved to strip her of autonomy. They also implemented security measures like requiring supporter and Producer approval for wishes. This also means Ace was born in the future + his remarks about things long past would still hold ground. But before the staff punished her, Mitsume left Ace in the hands of a modern-day family. There he grew up while waiting for the DGP to use “his” era as the current setting again

can we talk about how wrong the finish line ending is. can we talk about how barry sees snapping thawne's neck as their point of no return when thawne directly expressed hope barry can still live up to his idealised expectations several times and even spoke of how exactly he can achieve that. can we talk about how barry while having the best intentions fucks with thawne's speed and timeline resetting him to a humble curator with no powers and makes their situation a THOUSAND times worse when thawne comes back as reverse-flash because that reset is a direct and ultimate confirmation of barry's desire to forget thawne and make it like he never existed (the very thing that motivates thawne to mess with barry at all, the very thing he went insane about and which led him to becoming reverse-flash) and how thats similar to creation of the flashpoint which was done with good intentions and changed the world forever even after being undone. can we talk about how it also resembles lobotomy as in permanently fucking up persons brain and its necessary functions to make them more calm and controllable in their mental illness instead of actually helping them which takes a lot more time thought and effort and how that was a quick and seemingly effective but inherently destructive solution. can we talk about how barry by taking away eobard's powers also takes his freedom from societal expectations and standards of his time he clearly didnt fit in and 25th century in general. can we talk about how barry also took the only good memories thawne ever had aka their moments together and especially their first meeting which thawne saw as perfect and held very dearly just like any other interaction with barry including the reverse era ones. can we talk about how fucking intrusive, invalidating and selfish is the whole concept of erasing any kind of memories from another persons brain, no matter how hurtful or bad or self-sabotaging those can be especially involuntarily and how only the said person should have control over that because that is their damn life. can we talk about what such betrayal will do to a man who previously became the reverse-flash just because of one single phrase that he thought was something special only between him and barry. can we talk about how this time thawne paradoxically didnt even do anything to deserve that because he never met barry and never had such possibility in the first place. can we t

not that anybody asked but i do think terms like "cis+" or "cisn't", which i've seen thrown around in relation to the prev post, are a bit unnecessary. to me, it just seems like excessively atomising a fairly common experience, which is the desire to not be subject to the more uncomfortable and restrictive aspects of socially constructed gender roles. and sure, it might never even occur to a lot of cis people to do this kind of introspective analysis of their gender identities, and they might therefore be lacking some of the additional perspective of someone who has, but i don't think we necessarily need need a special new category for it. when you get down to it, "cis person who has previously questioned their gender" and "cis person who has never felt the need to question their gender" are both still cis, which in theory is a value-neutral description and a perfectly fine thing to be.
