The only reason I can think of why this house hasn't sold, when it's way under $1M, is b/c it's so tasteless. It now has a pending offer, though. The 1930 home in Temple, Texas has 8bds, 7ba, and is listed for $595K.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not my style, but it starts out okay with a central staircase and an open sitting room to the left.
Tumblr media
From the sitting room, you move to the dining room.
Tumblr media
The kitchen's not bad. Like the fancy design on the island.
Tumblr media
But, the kitchen is wide open and a step down to this family room.
Tumblr media
Plus there's this odd sort of pantry/dining area/back porch.
Tumblr media
I guess this is another sitting room or maybe a home office.
Tumblr media
I don't understand the bedrooms. The primary has a built-in fireplace wall and off to the left is an area with a platform that I thought was for the bed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, then there's another fancier fireplace wall that's off to the side, so the platform's not for the bed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And check this out. They built a kitchenette smack in the middle that divides the room. Note that the side the bed is on is a different color and has drapes to match the bedding. The other side is a different color with different curtains. So, the platform must be for a table, but what's the other side for? A sitting area?
Tumblr media
This is the primary en-suite. But, say you want to swim? This house says, "I got you."
Tumblr media
B/c the primary bedroom is open to the indoor pool and bar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's complete with a hot tub and diving board.
Tumblr media
And, it looks like you also have a choice of swimming or walking down the 1st fl. hall, b/c this is the view from the mezzanine.
Tumblr media
See how it kind of goes under that window?
Tumblr media
No home like this is complete w/o creepy dolls. Looks like the bed is gone, so maybe they convey.
Tumblr media
The room has a large vintage en-suite.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No idea what this is, a built-in bench on the 2nd fl. You can see that it's tucked into a corner of the mezzanine.
Tumblr media
The garden isn't very big b/c the house takes up most of the .54 acre lot.
Tumblr media
But, from up here you can see there's a nice gazebo.

My eclipse totality experience in Central Texas was cool! Def way better than my previous eclipse experiences. I know it's rapidly headed northeast from here now...my family in Indiana is getting ready. It will remain a bit dark outside for me another hour or so.
Wherever you are if you can, take a look (with glasses) at what you see! And if you are in the path of totality, take them off once totality arrives. SUPER worth it to go out and see!
Random question--does anyone know if it was here on Tumblr that I saw a very cute fan art depiction of characters for all states on the line of totality TX>Maine? And if so, can someone link it? I can't locate where it was (either here or on Instagram are my guesses) and I wanted to share it...it was so cute, like an armadillo character for Texas, Indiana was a race car, etc. Thanks in advance!

Lifa's Life Update (+Sims Progress)
Well it's been a minute, but We're still here & I don't mind.
Things roughly in order:
I fully remapped onto a custom SC4 terrain & rebuilt an entire Sims 2 BG neighborhood to update it to UC (any guesses?), started working on clothing defaults for the aforementioned neighborhood.
Started 2 huge TS2 projects that I may someday finish, completely unrelated to all of that, because I was in Milkshape & I can't control myself.
Had my partner's friends over A LOT, like it seemed like every couple weeks for awhile someone would be crashing in the guest room. (They're my friends too they just... started off as partner's friends lol.)
Barbecued & grilled a lot, because friends & food.
Went to a VNV Nation show with my friend (things that are on the Elder Goth Bucket List lol), made a whole Yeet Weekend outta it & also went to Ikea, Fivebelow, Spirit Halloween, a local outdoor market, & a snowcone stand.
The fucking holidays.
Got sick, part 1.
Surprise, my cat has diabetes & needs 2x daily insulin shots!
More of the fucking holidays.
Got sick, part 2.
2x/month cat checkups to check blood sugar & adjust the dose, for like 3 months.
TX freezes, local friend doesn't have sufficient insulation or central heating in their home to deal with the temps, because TX, & comes to stay with me (with their cat) for a week because I have central heating.
During that week that my friend was here, Mr Diabetes Cat decided to a) eat all the dry kibble out of every bowl, b) refuse wet food at shots time because he was full of dry kibble, & then c) throw up kibble & turn around & pee all over my carpet right after throwing up, which resulted in him not getting his shots that night--they have to be given with food---& getting scheduled an urgent vet visit in the morning. (He's fine, just expensive.)
On the day it actually warmed up outside before it went back to 20 degrees, friend & I did a mini-hike together. We also had food from the Generic Asian Cuisine place (yeah I know, it's Texas though) where we got Pho, Lumpia, & a tofu stir-fry.
I regret having to work during the freezy times, unfortunately.
Partner obtained me a uhh... knockoff Steamdeck handheld? Rog Ally? so I can keep Win7 on my monster computer & also play my dumb ancient murder-aliens 4x RTS game on Steam that I like, but I haven't fixed my mods for it to play it, because I...
Got sick, part 3.
While sick, took Mr Diabetes Cat to his very last 2-week checkup; we're on 3-month checkup schedules now! Because he's stable! Yay!
The entire house is a disaster & I'm still not 100% but I'm back to cooking/cleaning a bit between work at least.
Working on more of the necessary clothing defaults for the TS2 neighborhood I redid.
Planning for March when the entire zoo needs to be vetted again for vaxxing, just gonna wrap the diabetes checkup into that & do everyone's bloodwork at that time also unless something drastic happens. (We do like 2-3 cats at a time over the course of 2 weeks, & then the dog on her own, we're not like... hauling a van of animals to the vet all at once...)
Need to get some of the soft mesh transportation prisons for the cats before then, because the big crate with the lid is about to disintegrate.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
June 5, 2024
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
JUN 06, 2024
Today the S&P 500, which tracks the stock performance of 500 of the biggest companies on U.S. stock exchanges, closed at a new record high of 5,354. The Nasdaq Composite, which is weighted toward the information technology sector, also closed at a record high of 17,187. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was also up, but not to a new record. It closed at 38,807.
That notable economic news got very little attention, likely in part because there is so much else going on.
Most dramatically, House speaker Mike Johnson elevated Ronny Jackson (R-TX) and Scott Perry (R-PA) to the House Intelligence Committee, giving them oversight of the entire U.S. intelligence community and access to the nation’s most sensitive foreign intelligence. The Intelligence community includes intelligence from the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Space Force, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Department, the State Department, the Department of Energy (which oversees information about nuclear weapons), the Treasury Department, and the Department of Homeland Security.
It also oversees the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and that oversight is likely a key reason Johnson put Jackson and Perry on the committee.
A former Navy admiral, Jackson was Trump’s White House physician. Trump liked him enough to try unsuccessfully to promote him into the cabinet and within the U.S. Navy, and then to back him successfully for Congress after he retired from the Navy in 2019. In 2022 the U.S. Navy demoted him from admiral to captain after a 2021 report by the inspector general of the Defense Department showed he had “disparaged, belittled, bullied, and humiliated” his staff and abused alcohol on at least two occasions when he was supposed to be providing medical care to government officials.
Perry is more problematic than Jackson. Cassidy Hutchinson, former aide to Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows, told the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol that Perry played an important role in the plan to keep Trump in office after he lost the 2020 presidential election. She told podcast host Scott Lamar in October 2023 that Perry was “central to the planning of January 6,” and she has said repeatedly that Perry asked Trump for a pardon before he left office.
Federal authorities from the FBI seized Perry’s cell phone in 2022 as part of their investigation into the effort to seize the presidency; he is the only member of Congress whose cell phone was seized. Like Trump, who has attacked the FBI since then-director James Comey refused to drop the investigation into the connections between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian operatives, Perry has complained bitterly about the FBI’s investigation of him.
Now, Perry will be on the committee that oversees the FBI. In a statement, he said: “I look forward to providing not only a fresh perspective, but conducting actual oversight—not blind obedience to some facets of our Intel Community that all too often abuse their powers, resources, and authority to spy on the American People.”
Former director of the CIA General Michael Hayden wrote: “That’s unbelievable. Both of them. Intelligence Committee? God help us.”
There is other news about the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election: yesterday Wisconsin attorney general Josh Kaul filed felony forgery charges against attorney Kenneth Chesebro, who planned the use of fake electors; former judge James Troupis, who managed Trump’s 2020 campaign in Wisconsin; and Michael Roman, a political operative who allegedly delivered the paperwork for Wisconsin’s fake electors to a congressional staffer to try to get them to Vice President Mike Pence.
On January 6, 2021, after the document was delivered, Troupis texted to Chesebro: “Excellent. Tomorrow let’s talk about SCOTUS strategy going forward. Enjoy the history you have made possible today.”
In Georgia, a court of appeals paused the case against Trump and his co-conspirators from proceeding until it rules on Trump’s appeal to disqualify Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis. It has tentatively set a hearing date for October 4, meaning that voters will not get to learn the outcome of the trial until after the election. If Trump is reelected, the trial will almost certainly not go forward.
The federal criminal case against Trump for retaining classified documents is also stalled. Judge Aileen Cannon not only has put off hearings, she has added a hearing on June 21 to consider whether Special Counsel Jack Smith was properly appointed in the first place. She is revisiting a decision already decided in the affirmative in 2019 by the Washington, D.C., Court of Appeals. She has also taken the highly unusual step of inviting three people not involved in the case to argue in that hearing: two will argue that the appointment is invalid, one will argue that it was done properly.
Meanwhile, there were signs over the past few days of the deeply different party principles at the heart of the 2024 election. At an event to reach Black voters in what Julia Terruso and Sean Collins Walsh of the Philadelphia Inquirer described as “one of the whitest and most conservative parts of Philly,” Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), who is Black, illustrated the grip of a fantasy idyllic past on MAGA Republicans.
Donalds praised the Jim Crow era of American history—which was literally named for a vicious caricature of African Americans that helped to justify the lynching that characterized the period—because “during Jim Crow the Black family was together.” He blamed the Great Society programs of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, including civil rights and social welfare programs, for eroding family values.
On the House floor, Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) urged Donalds to “check yourself before you wreck yourself.” Democratic National Committee chair Jamie Harrison was less poetic but more succinct. He wrote: “These fools have lost their damn minds….”
In the Senate, Democrats forced Republicans to vote on advancing a bill to protect access to contraception. Republicans threatened a filibuster, meaning it would take 60 votes to bring the bill forward. And so the measure failed by a vote of 51 in favor to 39 against (Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer of New York voted no so he could bring the measure up again). Republican senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted in favor of the measure. All the other Republicans either voted no or did not vote.
All the Republicans running for reelection this year voted no: John Barrasso (R-WY), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
Some of them said they voted no because there was no danger that Republicans would attack contraception, claiming that Democrats were just “fear-mongering.” But in 2022, House Republicans overwhelmingly voted against protecting contraceptive rights, and in an interview last month, Trump said he was looking at restrictions on contraceptives before his campaign walked the statement back. Yesterday, in a hearing of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on “How Abortion Bans Have Created a Health Care Nightmare Across America,” a Republican witness, Dr. Christina Francis, chief executive officer of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) took the position that IUDs and Plan B emergency contraception constitute abortion and should be banned. In the Senate itself, Jodi Ernst (R-IA) has already proposed getting rid of Plan B.
A February 2024 poll showed that 80% of American voters said that protecting access to birth control was “deeply important” to them.
For all their rhetoric about “America First,” MAGA Republicans are out of step with actual Americans. The Trump loyalists now in charge of the Republican National Committee also appear to be remarkably ill-informed about the country itself. Sam Brody, political reporter for the Boston Globe, noted yesterday that on their website promoting the Republican National Convention to be held in July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Republicans used a photograph not of Milwaukee, but of Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

Mediastrology - Joel Miller (The Last of Us)
Tumblr media
Used the show birth date September 26 1987 (+ noon as his hypothetical birth time & Arlington TX as birth place from his bio)
Ardhra Moon
Whenever I picture Ardhra Nakshatra, I think of monsoon clouds. From the distance they look weightless, hovering miles above us, yet weigh tons and can bring havoc.
Ardra's lord Rudhra, described in texts as "frightening to behold", balances on this thin line between destruction and preservation. One is just as likely to drown from the summer rains as they are to be saved by them. Ardhra is, like the monsoon, inevitable. Like rains uncovering buried objects, they always end up getting to the root of the matter.
Rudhra natives tend to be courageous, with piercing gazes and a hefty dose of sarcasm. They tend to be more cynical than the people around them, often assuming the worst will happen as a coping mechanism. Their lives, like cloudbursts, often change drastically over short periods of time.
Uttara Phalguni Sun
According to David Frawley's writings, Uttara Phalguni placements tend to be noble in nature, at least to their allies. Ruled by Surya, they're headstrong and set in their ways.
At worst, they can be proud, arrogant, overly critical, and resentful. Additionally, this tendency towards hubris often ends up being their downfall. Uttara Phalguni suns especially have the karmic task to learn humility and to rely on others.
Chitra Mercury
Chitra's Lord Twashtar (the celestial architect) governs organized production, and tend to be better doers than talkers. These placements make great creators of any kind, such as artisans, mechanics, musicians, carpenters, etc.
Chitra placements (especially Mercury!) are known for speaking without thinking haha. Not very good at verbalizing their emotions, even to themselves.
Chitra's are also fighters, I like to call them the "David" placement relating to the David and Goliath story. They tend to be underdogs, and often have issues with authority figures (unless they are the authority figure in question).
Another important Chitra theme is their love for their children. Chitra's central desire is "To have wonderful children" and their lives often feel bleaker without them. This energy can of course present in many different ways irl, such as through pets, cared-for objects, vocations, students, or being a fantastic aunt/uncle/older sibling/mentor for another's children
Anuradha Rising
Anuradha is all about sacrifice - what we can do to serve the people around us. However, these individuals can sometimes develop a sense of resentment for their constant sacrifices. They might ask, "why is it always me taking care of them? why can't they meet me in the middle?
The perfect second-in-command, they're better at taking orders than giving them. Even when Anuradha risings end up taking supreme leadership, they often secretly defer to others for guidance, and most cool-voiced, charismatic Anuradha placements often have imposter syndrome behind closed doors.
Anuradha's power is worship, and worshiping something placed high above necessitates belief in something far below. Anuradhas fear shadows behind every corner. Anuradha placements are often their own worst critics, and are known to be "wrathful in defeat".

do you have a favorite animal that lives in your area or just a species that makes you very happy when you get to see one in the wild? for me personally i dont get to see ospreys all that often but hearing or seeing one nearby is always pleasant
Ive got a few! I have a soft spot for a lot of coastal tx animals because they're what i grew up with, so animals like coyote, whitetail deer, grackles, mockingbirds, & mourning doves were all very common in my area. Turkey vultures were also absolutely everywhere and to this day i feel a lot of love and appreciation for them and their silly red heads
But also since moving to central tx ive seen a lot of neat animals for the first time! Ive seen a few trapdoor spiders, there's a red tailed hawk (maybe several?) that live in my neighborhood, ive seen foxes from doorbell cameras before, but my favorite is the congress bridge bats (mexican free-tailed bats), theyre easily the most fascinating animals in my area plus ive always had a serious soft spot for bats

Almost had my face taken off by an older lady in a bathroom in central Tx. Like, this lady turned around and saw me and went stiff, like she’d just seen the damn devil. I legit started backpedaling, afraid she was going to take a swing at me or something. She finally looked me up and down, spotted the boobs, and went “Oh, you startled me” and then continued to stare at me for a solid 5-6 very long seconds before turning around and finally walking the rest of the way into the bathroom.
Fucking sucks, man.

I was trying to figure out some economics for a thing which drove me to trying to compare the costs of living at a hostel (something the US doesn't really have) vs living at the shittiest of motels in the US (which fill the niche). I think the final math I did showed that it was marginally possible to live at a hostel (based on rates in Bristol and UK minimum wage) and still make money for the day, while if you're working at minimum wage a cheap motel would leave you in the red even before factoring in food and such (based on motel 6 rates in my CA town/CA minimum wage and motel 6 rates in San Antonio/TX minimum wage). ((post scriptum the math in question: Bristol Hostel rate ~25/night, UK min wage about 8/h, assuming 8 hour work day, five days a week, not working weekends, we get 8 L/h * 8 h/d * 5 d/w - 7 d/w * 25 L/d = 320 L/w - 175 L/w = 145 L/w * 1/7 w/d ~= +21 pounds per day, before other expenses. Central Cal Motel 6 rate ~$75/night, CA min wage ~$15/h, same assumptions, 15 $/h * 8 h/d * 5 d/w - 7 d/w * 75 $/d = 600 $/w - 525 $/w = +75 $/w; * 1/7 w/d ~= +11 $/d , before tax and other expenses San Antonio Motel 6 rate ~50 $/d, TX min wage ~7 $/h, idem, 7 * 8 * 5 - 7 * 50 = 280 - 350 = -70 / 7 = -10 $/d, before tax and other expenses Also adding to this post Bremen hostel rate 16 euro/day, Germany min wage 12 e/h, idem, 12 * 8 * 5 - 7 * 16 = 480 - 112 = 368, /7 = + 52 euros/day (!) ))
I wondered if this might factor into some of the differences between american and european homelessness. Like, it doesn't solve it by any means. The main problems for the homeless are mental health and getting jobs, not necessarily keeping them. So at best it's like, the homeless get hidden at night and forced into inhumane wage slavery, with little margin for like clothing repair, health needs, fucking up, etc. It would maybe provide some shelter to some, which has maslow's hierarchy benefits, and it would maybe stop the bourgeoisie from being as psychopathic about their lawns getting stepped on, maybe, but it wouldn't solve anything fundamentally, and, like, looking at europe the homelessness issues are very similar to the us's. So I kinda forget what it is I wanted to post with this.
Although thinking about it I still think it might be better for the US if we normalized having even shitty shelter driven down to the price range of a hostel? Something economically self-sustaining that vulnerable people could realistically afford by begging, I guess.
idk, it's probably just shuffling hells around until they're out of sight, out of mind

The Alamo
One of the must-visit locations in San Antonio is the Alamo. This place is considered a historic landmark in San Antonio. It's a must-see for visitors. For example, The Alamo for the Texas Revolution and the Washington D.C. for the founding of the United States.
Both of these attract visitors, and the Alamo attracts more visitors. The Alamo Trust, Inc., a Texas non-profit corporation, operates the museum, which is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This museum also offers events like field trips, history trunks, professional development, and a virtual tour of the Alamo Church. This is different- it’s new construction, in Houston, Texas and it’s meant to be a “modern tree house.” So, it’s up on stilts around a 200 yr. old Pecan tree (a pecan tree can live up to 250yrs., so I think a younger one would’ve been better). Anyway, I thought that it was going thru the wall, but they just cut the branches to accommodate the build. It only has 2bd. 2.5ba. & is $2M.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The home is architecture as art, designed and built by Scott Strasser. Situated at the apex of the First Ward Arts District and American Statesman Park, the house is lifted into the tree’s canopy.
Tumblr media
Two wings, one public, one private, are separated by a formal link offering a  view of the tree.
Tumblr media
The entrance hall has a central window for a close-up view of the tree.
Tumblr media
The public wing is open concept and includes a large, bright living room space. I wish it had a fireplace, though.
Tumblr media
The dining area is off to the side of the living room.
Tumblr media
And, you can see the kitchen at the far end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen is very stark and ultra modern with a low profile.
Tumblr media
There is also a walk-in pantry.
Tumblr media
The powder room in the public area.
Tumblr media
The hallway to the main bd.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a spacious room.
Tumblr media
The en-suite has marble counters.
Tumblr media
And, this is the main bd.’s wardrobe.
Tumblr media
The second bd. is on the narrow side.
Tumblr media
And, the secondary en-suite also has marble.
Tumblr media
Off the hall is a large deck.
Tumblr media
These decks face the street and feature wood privacy screens.
Tumblr media
Under the house is a walkway of black star granite.
Tumblr media
Also under the house are 2 carport spaces with storage.
Tumblr media
And on the other side of the house is a grassy area. I’m disappointed. The house is so plain, there’s really nothing special about the interior.

San Antonio (/ˌsæn ænˈtoʊnioʊ/ SAN an-TOH-nee-oh; Spanish for "Saint Anthony"), officially the City of San Antonio, is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the most populous city in Greater San Antonio, the third-largest metropolitan area in Texas and the 24th-largest metropolitan area in the United States at 2.6 million people in the 2020 US census. It is the most populous city in and the county seat of Bexar County. The city is the seventh-most populous in the United States, the second-largest in the Southern United States, and the second-most populous in Texas after Houston.
Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city in 1731 became the first chartered civil settlement in what is now present-day Texas. The area was then part of the Spanish Empire. From 1821 to 1836, it was part of the Mexican Republic. It is the oldest municipality in Texas, having celebrated its 300th anniversary on May 1, 2018.
Straddling the regional divide between South and Central Texas, San Antonio anchors the southwestern corner of an urban megaregion colloquially known as the Texas Triangle. Downtown Austin and Downtown San Antonio are approximately 80 miles (129 km) apart, and both fall along the I-35 corridor. This combined metropolitan region of San Antonio–Austin has approximately 5 million people
San Antonio receives about a dozen subfreezing nights each year, typically seeing snow, sleet, or freezing rain about once every two or three winters, but accumulation and snow itself are very rare. Winters may pass without any frozen precipitation at all, and up to a decade has passed between snowfalls. According to the National Weather Service, there have been 32 instances of snowfall (a trace or more) in the city in the past 122 years, about once every four years. Prior to 2021 snow was most recently seen on December 7, 2017, when 1.9 inches (4.8 cm) of snow coated the city

The main symptom is loss of central vision. Activities that require central vision – reading, driving and watching TV – are most affected.
