⭐︎ going on patrols together and she’s just smiling like the biggest dork because you’re pointing out how that smell of spring is finally coming back but she’s just watching the tip of your nose move the tiniest bit when you talk.

⭐︎ bathing or showering after patrols and you’re massaging the shampoo into her scalp and she’s about to fall asleep because oh my god what the fuck it feels so good.

⭐︎ ellie being a bit reserved with pda or defining your relationship in public (like how we see her uncertainty with cat in her journal!) and being over the moon when you refer to her as her girlfriend. like maybe you two are at the tipsy bison and you’re talking with some newcomers…

“mhm! my girlfriend, ellie, has been reading me the comics, she’s collected tons of them!”

⭐︎ the two of you sneaking out of jackson with dina and jesse to go swimming in a nearby like and they won’t stop teasing the two of you.

“oh my god you two are so gay.” dina would say with mock disgust. and you can’t even deny it because you are so gay, especially when ellie takes her shirt off and only wearing a sports bra underneath.

⭐︎ waking up next to her in her garage in the colder months and just snuggling up to her for warmth. she tries to rub her icicle feet on your legs until you threaten to get up and go home. this would only make her hold you tighter and grumble something like nooo don’t leave in a raspy, half-awake voice.

⭐︎ pulling ellie to the dance floor at events and her getting all flushed and smiley. staring into her eyes or at her lips because you know it makes her flush harder.

⭐︎ ellie loving the idea of being rebellious and sneaking you in or out of her garage went joel isn’t looking (even if he knows about your relationship). she’d be so silly about it.

whisper yelling, “go now he’s not looking!”

“oh my god ellie you’re such a nerd!” you’d reply at full volume, leaving through the front door.

⭐︎ throwing ellie a suprise party for her birthday at the tipsy bison. it turning out to be extremely challenging because she was insisting that she would rather just stay in for her birthday but you had gotten all of her friends to hideout in the bar for half an hour at this point.

⭐︎ ellie genuinely being surprised when the lights flicker on and everyone she knows is yelling “happy birthday!” and her standing in shock, realizing why you were so persistent about going out tonight.

⭐︎ walking in on ellie (attempting to) cut her own hair and she’s royally fucked it up and now it’s your job to fix it. her grumpy pout in the mirror as you lecture her about just waiting for you to come home so you could cut it.

⭐︎ getting walked in on (maybe multiple times). once in ellie’s garage when neither of you heard joel’s knocks so he invites himself in and ellie had to panickingly throw the blankets over you two. then another time on patrol when dina and jesse came back from scoping out some supplies and they found you on a couch. and then maybe again when maria went looking for you two after a dance and you were tucked in an alleyway.

⭐︎ hanging out at a lake just outside of jackson and ellie’s sketching you.

“why’re you staring at me?” you’d giggle.

“cause you’re so pretty.” she’d reply, just her eyes peaking out from over her journal.

“lemme see what you’re drawing.” you’d say as your sit up.

“no!” she laugh, pulling the notebook away from your grasp.

“ellieuhhh, you’re so lame.”

I don’t write for Joel but this picture just screams a Legend (Tom Hardy, 2015) esque story where like the Kray brothers, Joel and his protégé Ellie are building their criminal empire in the 1960s through cunning but shady business deals and intimidation. Their reputation is rising fast among those in the underworld - earning them esteem, loyalty and dread for smart strategies that keep their hands seemingly clean, and violent tendencies that leave their hands decidedly lesser so.

Now imagine that everyone thinks that Joel is the snarling attack dog that leashes himself for the sake of his younger ward, that she keeps his aggression and brutality in check - Ellie being a physical reminder that their legacy isn’t worth throwing away for the fleeting satisfaction that comes from terrorizing those they deem to deserve it.

But it’s actually Ellie who’s the loose canon, feral and unpredictably volatile and it’s only Joel’s father-figure presence and levelheadedness that reins her in as she continue to learn the ropes of the business she will one day take over.

backstory; you're a princess, by blood, and you're to be declared to someone else in a short manner of time, which was entirely unprecedented-- to the both of you. abby is your devoted crownsguard, and personal knight, whom you've known since the age of 8. she doesn't want to cannot see you with anyone else.

It was a dark afternoon. Earlier Abby had commented that the weather 'was vociferous', indoors rather quiet, despite the rain pattering violently against the stained glass panes of the windows. The castle was cold-- tile floors unforgiving with the temperature as you slipped with grace from your vanity, hair neatly combed and styled up into a half-up, half-down sort of do. You readied yourself for a crown meeting this afternoon, which was in.. roughly an hour, you assumed, glancing at the large, ornate contraption of a clock across the room, gazing over the roman numerals sharply.

After powdering your face, and slipping on your heels to look presentable enough to address the councilmen and the crown advisor. You stood, gathering your skirt in two graceful hands, readying to open the door-- until, at the same time, knuckles rapped at the door. You turned the ornate, golden handle; met with your trusted guard, and Abigail's tall, towering gaze.

Despite her appearance, she had a rather warm expression, almost softening at the sight of you. "My princess," she began, looking at you with her sultry, deep, blue irises. "I've been sent to retrieve you, for the King and Queen's inquiry," Abigail smiled softly, you nodding to her words, "You're earlier than expected," You chuckled, and she returned your demeanor, looking at you almost with.. longing. "Better than late, no?" She humored, before reaching with an elbow to take your arm, like usual. You looped yours with hers in instinct, allowing her to escort you to the tearoom, where your parents sat soundly, awaiting your presence that they'd beckoned for.

Abigail pushed upon the handle of the ornate, floral decorated door, holding it open courteously for you, who walked in elegantly, curtsying in your parents' presence.

"We've something rather.. important, to discuss, before the council meeting this evening, darling." Your mother began, looking despondently at you. Your father; the king, chimed in, "You also, won't be attending the council meeting." He announced, and your brows furrowed together, lifting your head to make defiant eye contact with him. "..Why not? I've been present, every year, since I was of twelve." You frowned, clearly displeased, but looking upon your mother; hoping she'd speak out and take your side, all you could discern was her downcast expression. Clearly, this was something serious. Your father cleared his throat, settling in his throne and looking to you with a consequential guise.

"You'll be wed, coming this December."

He declared, your eyebrows going up in shock-- you'd only turned of eighteen three months ago; certainly, this was early. Now, you understood why Abby's demeanor was more solemn, than usual. Why she hadn't grinned stupidly at you like she normally did. You felt your world collide and crash, the crescendo of the atmosphere quickly pivoting to a nose-plant downwards. You barely remembered to breathe, inhaling deeply after finally reminding yourself, and all you could say was;

"...to whom?" You tried to reply, the tremble in your voice evident anyways. You glanced back at your trusted companion; who was standing uniform beside the door, looking at you shamefully-- with sorrow in her not as sultry, blue eyes. Your lower lip quivered, and you tried to maintain not a horribly sorrowful guise, although still looking to your parents like a kicked puppy.

I can totally picture Manny finding this on a sticker or keychain in some overgrown gift shop in the city. Something dusty and tucked away, just waiting to be pocketed. And of course he grabs it. Not for himself, though. But for Abby. Doesn’t say anything, just slips it into her backpack one day, knowing she’ll find it when she’s alone and probably having a rough time.

This girl is way more sensitive than she lets most people see. Manny sees it. And that is the magic of a best friend.

fluff, a tiny bit of angst

- restarted her and her fathers coin collection after santa barbara

- learnt how to cut hair for lev so he wouldnt have to get continuous buzz cuts

- took piano lessons for a while when she was working with the wlf, but had to stop once things got more serious with the seraphites

- would volunteer to help teach the kids in the base while she had time off

- knows like a lot about plants and can tell you literally anything. (same with animals and insects!!)

- often writes about people she misses.

- taught lev how to braid her hair once it got long enough again (lev braiding abbys hair)

- lev pretends to listen when abby rants about books shes read

- modern!abby would be a med student trust
