Hello, welcome! I hate TERFs, I write about stuff that I wish someone told me when I was younger, and I shame bigots who are flagrantly bigoted…but the coherent theme of this blog fizzled out. Pro: love, lefty, feminism, union, children’s rights, healing, aging, fat liberation, radical self-love, queer, childfree, but supporting parents through the village mentality, and solidarity. Anti: abuse, TERF, capitalist, white supremacist, AI, colonizer, republican, fascist, billionaire, compulsory parenting/pregnancy. (Yes, I write a lotttt. No, I’m not saying everyone posted here is a bigot, check the tags. I try to use stuff like #good shit for the non bigot posts.) Blog run by a white AuDHD queer fat lady early 40s, a Hoosier currently in Austin, TX. Not accepting submissions anymore. Tag me if you want my attention on a post. It's not a coincidence anti-migrant nativist fascist politics have become globally popular as climate change is threatening to create billions of climate refugees because capitalism refuses to commit to a total energy transition.
Oil, imperialism, climate change, nativism and fascism are converging in this era of crisis.

Do not ever ask someone if they are pregnant, or ask questions like "when's the baby due?" unless someone has explicitly told you that they are pregnant. The only exception is if you are a medical professional who is asking a patient if they're pregnant for medical reasons. But otherwise, if this is just a classmate, colleague, etc. do not ever ask if they are pregnant, or ask a question that assumes they are pregnant such as "when are you due?"
First of all there are quite a few medical conditions, such as endometriosis and/or gastrointestinal conditions which can cause pretty severe bloating that *looks* like pregnancy, but isn't. (google "endo belly" if you want to see some examples and how much this can look like pregnancy, but isn't). People who have conditions that cause bloating typically already feel bad and self conscious enough about it, and assuming they're pregnant just makes them feel worse and more self conscious.
Or maybe someone just gained weight recently, and if they naturally have a more "apple" shape they'll carry it more in their abdomen, and it's never polite to draw attention to changes in someone's weight.
Either way, if we have falsely assumed that someone is pregnant when they aren't, the result is typically going to be offending the other person and making them feel more self conscious about their appearance, and we don't want to risk making someone feel worse about their appearance.
To add, conditions that can cause bloating, such as endometriosis, are also often linked to infertility, making pregnancy potentially an extra sensitive subject to them, and another reason falsely assuming they're pregnant could hurt their feelings.

I haven't posted about this fucking mess because it's SO OBVIOUSLY a stunt (aside from the eugenics-coding, Sydney Sweeney is the sweetheart of the right who "killed woke" by.... having big boobs), but let it be known that henceforth Sidney Sweeney is THAT dumb bitch and is so far in INCREDIBLY strong candidate for worst look of the decade.
I hated American Eagle when they were an Abercrombie & Fitch knockoff and I hate them even more now!

Zohran Mamdani is such an antisemite that he's winning with young Jews, Reform Jews, and Jewish people overall!
But a 73 year old WASP from upstate New York who thinks the subway is a Mad Max hellscape told me he's second Hitler, so maybe we should believe that.

I am struggling to put my thoughts into words. I don't know how to focus lately on anything while so many people are starving to death in Gaza.
I am finding myself texting my family members and my friends and my local community organizing networks apologizing for disappearing, for failing to respond to messages, for forgetting to check in. I was laid off from my job a while ago, and have not received a single interview. How can I justify writing cover letters when I could be writing fundraisers? But how can I not when my wife needs me to find a source of income so that we can pay rent.
When I write about Palestine, it is the only thing that feels important in my life. But then I fear that people do not read it, and I fear they stop reading as soon as they realize I am talking about Palestine. What can I write so that you will feel my (imperfect, flawed) humanity through them, and not let go when I ask you to hold the humanity of the people of Gaza too?
Many hands make light work, but there needs to be a hell of a lot more hands here. It's heavy right now, but the more people do something, the easier it becomes for every single person trying to act. Please do not fear the weight of this. We need you.

if american CEOs were killed at the same rate as schoolchildren, they would all be dead in a few months.
if american CEOs were killed at the same rate that police kill unarmed people, they would all be dead in a couple of weeks.
if american CEOs were killed at the same rate that life saving treatments were denied coverage, they would all be dead in seconds.

TERFs alwayssssss find my reproductive health posts just to complain about the gender neutral language. That’s it. That is all they have to say. They’re like sharks in the water waiting to derail the whole message of the post because I said ‘people’ instead of ‘women’.

biggest mindfuck is the fact that it can be so so difficult to tell the difference between when it's time for "do it bored/scared/stupid but by jove just do it" and when it's time for "if it sucks hit the bricks"

TRUTH
Somewhere at some point, I either read or heard a very smart person explain a key piece of the current crisis around masculinity… It’s how many “good” men still NEED “the bad ones” among them to have any self esteem. And I can’t stop thinking about it.
Basically, the thought is that that most conservative or fundie or stereotypically masculine type men who aren’t “bad” themselves, are still deeply invested in perpetuating shit like misogynistic violence and rape culture because they have defined their sense of self-worth and their value around the idea of “protecting women” and being a “hero.” if there’s not a threat for the women they love, then there is no value and in who they are, according to their own thought process.
And so they ultimately have no interest in actually changing society and any real or tangible way, because they don’t see themselves as a part of the problem because their thing is…if there aren’t “bad” men they can protect women from as a “good” man, then they feel worthless and have no sense of self.
Which means that they need “bad” men to exist and benefit from the looming threat of that.
So even though they might present as not “that bad” they will ultimately never be invested in joining us in the actual eradication of things like violence against women and rape because that is a fundamental threat to their own warped sense of self.
How can you be a hero if there are no villains?
And how can you have a sense of self if what you think you need to be all of the time is a hero?
Once you start thinking about it this way, it’s like you can’t unsee it. It’s everywhere.

It’s difficult to fully articulate the hold that Patrick Stewart had on audiences when TNG was airing. Between the hundreds of magazine covers, the talk show circuits, and the paparazzi nonsense, the amount of baldness puns editors were compelled to create was astounding.
It was like the media fixated on this man because he had catastrophic levels of charisma and audiences were losing their minds over him (TNG was regularly beating network shows in ratings), yet he was so far removed from the narrow Hollywood standards of beauty that it vexed and haunted these people for years.
Baldness was a joke in Hollywood. 75% of George Costanza's identity revolved around bald jokes. If you were a bald actor, you were cast as a villain or a buffoon, never the hero. And if you were losing your hair, you had to slap a wig on or risk losing your career. Yul Brynner was somewhat of an exception but he was from a much different generation of Hollywood and even Bruce Willis didn't fully shave his head until 1994 (post TNG success incidentally).
In Patrick Stewart's case, there was often an undercurrent of snide putdowns with many interviewers, drawing focus to his baldness over and over and over again with low hanging jokes. It was like you could see their vanity-based paradigms cracking in real time and it was strange to witness. Imagine how bizarre it would be if talk show hosts today could only ask The Rock, Vin Diesel, or Jason Statham about their bald heads.
But karma swooped in to the rescue. In 1992 Stewart was voted TV Guide's "Sexiest Man on Television" with a whopping 54% of votes. He beat out the likes of Luke Perry, John Corbett, A. Martinez, and even Burt Reynolds (with a total of 20 contenders).
Tumblr media
The middle-aged bald guy in the syndicated sci-fi show beat out the hottest of the Hot Guys™️ and it wasn't even remotely close.

^ Bald joke
So yeah, today he's an old, revered thespian who is occasionally Charles Xavier, but not only did Patrick Stewart pave the way for other bald actors to be considered leading men, he discombobulated Hollywood with his unconventional attractiveness and it was amazing.

Every day I am overwhelmed by the way almost everyone in the global north redefines health away from collective survival and toward promotion of individualism and eugenics.
People will talk about "hygiene" and they mean extensive skin care routines and cosmetics instead of preventing the spread of contagious diseases through requiring structural renovations for better ventilation of workplaces, schools, & public spaces and universal healthcare that includes easy, accessible, free testing & vaccinations.
People will talk about "nutrition" and they mean promoting expensive, restrictive diets dependent on imperial food systems and the promotion of anti-fat and anti-black policies, instead of doing anything to prevent the widespread nutrient deficiencies caused by our government's deliberate, ongoing starvation of Palestinian people.
