This would be genius, someone please organize it. Also, I bought the version of a Christmas Carol with Jefferson Mays playing all of the parts, and it was so amazing that I bought it again and watched it on January 3, which might technically be too late to watch Christmas things, but seriously it was one of the best things I’ve ever seen in my life, oh wow.
I’ve just realized that Macbeth and Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder are very similar stories told in very different ways, and it honestly just really makes me really want a Macbeth in which Jefferson Mays plays Duncan, Banquo, Fleance, and all the other characters that are killed.

I didn’t even go to University online and there were times when it was like this
online university is just *hasn’t been outside in three days* *absolute lack of spatial and temporal awareness* *tiktok break* *opens an email and forgets to respond* *pyjamas all day every day* *paces around room* *hopes your prof just thinks you’re in a different timezone when you submit an assignment at 4am* *unlimited tea* *bathroom breaks every hour* *no clear divide between free time and school* *looks out window longingly*

Even though I have loved Rocky Horror for several years now, this song was only just brought to my attention last night. It’s not in the movie, but I was watching a bootleg live performance of it. Of course the whole show is hilarious and ridiculous and insane, so when this song started I was pretty sure it was going to end in 30 seconds or turn into a dirty joke or something and was pleasantly surprised to hear just this… Legit, beautiful, sad break up song. It also helps that the guy on this recording, Jarrod Emick, has an absolutely beautiful voice.

I love this!
so I’ve just been made aware of this image from 1926
Tumblr media
it’s a bunch of women in clothing from different earlier eras reacting to an extremely modish flapper. like, more extreme even than most fashionable women of the period were willing to go
Miss 1917 on the far right seems to be showing distinct interest. bordering on horniness. Miss 1917 needs a cold shower, is what I’m saying
from left to right, it looks like:
- late Victorian? maybe 1910s? (skirt’s too short to go with the hat if it is meant to be Victorian- could be sporting-wear, a later skirt standing in, or something that originally belonged to a smaller woman)
- earlier in the ‘20s? some weird attempt at 18th century, based on the makeup? I’ve got nothing for this one. honestly the dress looks almost 1930s to me, except the sleeves are a bit late 1890s-ish?
- 1910-ish
- 1905-ish
- around 1917
I love this so much. I love that they seem to have dug up “vintage” clothes- including the necessary undergarments, for the outfits that require specific corsets. I love the varied expressions, ranging from horror to scorn to curiosity
(personally, I’m right there with the unimpressed Gibson Girl type. “ugh, girl, seriously? you look like you’re wearing a pillowcase. no thanks.”)
humans have been thinking about how their ancestors would react to the present forever. we really never change

I Love this so much. So many valid reasons to get married, and the romance is only one of them!
the idea of two aromantic platonic partners having a “convenience marriage” is like my favorite thing right now I’m both getting really excited and cracking up over the possibilities I mean just imagine:
“we got married because of tax benefits”
“we got married because it gave us an excuse to have sleepovers every night”
“we got married because it seemed convenient to ‘pool our assets’ (aka our library is now twice as big, as is our collection of Disney movies)”
“we got married because it gave us an excuse to ask for toasters from people as wedding gifts”

I love Mina!
Tumblr media
The fourth prompt of Gothlitober on Instagram — Letters
I immediately thought about Mina, letters from Jonathan and her hard feelings of missing him, feeling lonely without him, relief, that he wrote that everything is good, and worries, that these letters are kind of strange and something could’ve happened.

This is the first one of these things that I’ve actually been able to understand what it was a reference to.
Good morning to amateur explorers who built a house at the crest of the Brodview Avenue hill in New Rochelle, New York, whose considerable income was derived from the manufacture and sale of fireworks and other accoutrements of patriotism; to matriarchs who take pleasure in making the house comfortable for the men of her family and often tell themselves how fortunate they are to be protected and provided for by their husbands; to younger brothers who work at firework factories and are genius at explosives; to professors of Greek and Latin who are now retired and thoroughly irritated by everything; to ladies with parasols; to fellows with tennis balls; to men and women of color who forget their troubles and dance and revel to the music of Coalhouse Walker Jr.; to young women who think Coalhouse plays just for them; to men from Latvia who dream of a new life for their little girls; to immigrants who make an art of mistake and headline in the top vaudeville circuits;  to the most beautiful women in America who became the biggest attraction in vaudeville since Tom Thumb; to eminent architects and designers of Pennsylvania Station on 33 Street; to eccentric millionaires; to Emma Goldman, and to absolutely no one else.

I’m not an actor and I’ve never been to a conservatory but I think a lot of this is just generally good advice for being in college anyway… If I had known it when I was there I would have saved myself a lot of trouble.
Acting Conservatory 101
I recently landed a residence at a fantastic conservatory for the performing arts. I’m here to tell you exactly what the fuck is up with that. I might do conservatory VS college later, but here’s the quick & dirty version thus far:
You will be exhausted. All the time. Every day. The workload and general expectations will wring you out and leave you to dry.
Because of this, you need to make a 100% honest attempt at self care. No more romanticizing treating your body like shit. If you don’t do your honest best to eat well and sleep enough and stay hydrated, you will crash and burn.
Everyone is your friend until proven otherwise. Assume the best of people. It isn’t high school and odds are, everyone who’s there with you worked damn hard to be there. Unless you have a legitimate reason to dislike someone, be amiable.
Get the biggest, toughest water bottle ever. You’ll need it.
Don’t let it go to your head. Getting into a conservatory is 2% of the battle. The other 98% is the work you do while you’re there.
Be friends with your teachers and RAs (or whatever equivalent to RAs you may have.) Having them on your side from the beginning is loads better than trying to be “cool” and will help you in the long run.
Professionalism is important. You’re an actor now. Not a theatre kid. Not a musical nerd. Not a Broadway fan. An actor. Thinking of yourself that way will help you be professional when necessary.
Be proud of yourself. Not arrogant, necessarily, but do be proud. You’re doing a very brave thing. Don’t downplay your achievements.
For anyone who isn’t sure what to expect from conservatory, here you go! I’m sure I’ll have a part two sometime soon.
