Jorge gave me everything I could ever wish for Penelope
She is, in a way, a *literal* trophy at the end of the journey, she has been Odysseus objective since the beginning. It would be so easy to make her a shallow character, just the all forgiving wife with the purpose of giving the man a happy ending. But in just two songs she had so much personality, so much light. In her first song we See her, her struggle in the past 20 years, how she dealt with it and how she FELT about it. The hopes and sorrows of an actual person that does what she does because of love, but her love is tied to *who she is* and not the man it is directed to (is the same way Odysseus love is portrayed the whole time). The duet at the end, thought, is just what makes it all perfect. She doesnât coddle Odysseus or forgives him at sight happy to know nothing. She asks what he did. She taunts him when he starts spiraling about being undeserving of her love. She states that he is HER husband and she did not wait 20 years for someone she would stop loving. She express a possessive claim on Odysseus, on her Love, she is not passive about what happens to her. The way she calls him âhersâ, when even Odysseus, who called for âhis wifeâ the whole story, never said she was HIS that way. But Penelope does. She looks right at him and says âYouâre Mineâ. She shows us this wasnât a one sided story of Odysseus finding his wife. The incisive way she sings and sings and Sings âwaitingâ exposing us to the other side, the story of Penelope who weaved and schemed and Endured. In the end, she is the furthest thing from a trophy. In the end, in such a short time, we See her and we Know her and maybe we too would have sacrificed the world to be hers again.

The thing that irritates me the most about Helluva Boss is the adamant need to waste any potential for depth in every character. The thing that stops me from abandoning this train wreck of a show and feeling total apathy for it is its wasted potential.
TOO MUCH FUCKING WASTED POTENTIAL.
And obviously, the elephant in the room, aka the blatant misogyny and double standards because viv is writing yaoi so the fans could consume the emotional uwu moments and porn. SO MUCH PORN DAMN IT.
And the thing that eats away at me is the characters such as stolas and stella had such an easy chance to be morphed into something so deep that the show could be a soap opera about their drama alone.
In my humble opinion, the Goetia demons shouldn't have been in this show at all. They belong in a show like Hazbin that's showcasing the upper echelon of hell. This should've been about IMP, but I'm not ripping that one bandaid off because the wound under it is a biohazard. Anyway, I wanted to offer a rewrite for the đ lovely poor uwu baby Stolas and his DEMON, BITCH OF A WIFE, Stella. (Yeah, the sarcasm's strong with this one)
First of all I love how her name means star đ. It ties in together nicely with the whole astrology aesthetic of the family. We're gonna ignore the born-to-be-a-bitch personality the show presented her as having and focus on what caused her issues.
First of all, she probably knew from a young age that she was going to be wed off into an arranged marriage (just like stolas), and she knew she had the responsibility of birthing an heir. That's going to affect how she views love and marriage in general. She'd see it as a transaction, that she can offer an heir and her body, and receive what she wants. I have no problem with her being a spoiled brat, a mean girl. In fact, take it up a notch. She can be both of that! She was probably given every materialistic thing she wanted since the day she was born other than love and affection. That probably made her narcissistic and selfish, with the "I get everything that I want and you can't stop me" attitude.
She's a party girl, and we stand for that. She seems to be very extroverted and outgoing, and that clashes with stolas' more subdued and introverted personality.
I see her as being EXTREMELY paranoid about appealing to the high society that she's a part of and keeping herself at the top of the food chain amongst other aristocrats, unlike stolas who only does it to keep face or avoid getting too much attention, she wants to be noticed ans seen. Her gossipy, high society friends also reinforce the fact that she never had normal friends who cared about her, and she never grew out of her mean girl phase.
I see her as someone with so much passion in her heart, and sadly, we had to see all that turned into rage. She has trouble controlling her temper and the constant rage that boils inside her, and she explodes and lashes out on people, especially stolas.
I see her going into a marriage with stolas with the same "I'll get what I want" attitude. He has power, money, and legions to his name, and he isn't necessarily bad looking. So stella is like, "Eh, might as well..."
He isn't her dream partner, but she goes into the marriage thinking she can mould him into her dream man. Or thinking he's meek enough to leave her on her own, or she could even manipulate him to do as she pleases. None of those go as planned, though.
.
.
.
I can lowky see her dragging him around as she shops and him just wanting to die inside, lol
Oh my, Anon, this quite a lot of words, but I actually really love your rewrite, I can see Stella actually watching Mean Girls while Stolas dies inside and just stares at the infinite lmao
But sadly, this is a Viv show, and you know that women in these kinds of shows aren't allowed to have any nuance beyond a one-note use or personality trait, unless they're stepping stools for the male cast, which in that case, they're allowed to have a bit more of depth, but not too much.
And yeah, actually, now that you mention it, the Goetia demons shouldn't have been in Helluva, if anything, they should've been shown on Hazbin, like you said, because we are following along a protagonist that was born in royalty (Charlie) and it would make a lot of sense to see the Goetia demons there, since it would be a royal meetup or something like that.
And lastly, about the porn... I can corroborate this since a lot of the designs made by Viv or by her team look... conventionally attractive, so conventional that's artificial and try hard at times, and also, pretty safe but sometimes pushing the limits a bit to pander to gay people (Vortex, Asmodeus and Satan, to name a few muscular characters that are quite popular, but also Moxxie, Chaz and Striker, also popular in the gay side of the fandom) but it always boils down to the same purpose: to get people horny, and this is exemplified so painfully clear when Loona shook her ass towards the camera in one of the episodes, turning out to be shameless furry bait, and when I say that these shows are gooning and softcore porn shows, it's because of deliberate shit like this.
But alas, thanks for your input, Anon, it's greatly appreciated and it's quite the palette cleanser to see someone competent pick up Viv's mess and restructure it into something actually compelling and nuanced.

Reading comprehension is at an all time low. You way too in your feelings over my lil Merthur post. Fanfiction wasnât part of my argument brain trust. I brought that up in regards to her finding out about Merthur from TikTok. I never said anything about fanfiction providing evidence for this ship in the show. No one knows their character better than the actors and they interpreted their characters as being attracted to one another. The writers also interpreted it that way. Where was I nasty to Gwen? Iâve never had a problem with Gwen. Iâm a fem black individual myself - I loved Gwen. I wanted them to do more with her and they did not. I literally stated that just as Merthur is the dominant ship in the fandom, Morgwen is right there next to it.
Ok, letâs talk about Gwen and Arthurâs marriageâŚ.it ainât shit to say cuz it gave nothing. It was boring, stale, and Arthur never seemed to care for her as much as he did Merlin. And I never said Gwen and Arthurâs relationship was fake. The OP said that BOTH Merlin and Arthur liked Gwen. Which is why I specifically said that Gwen and Merlinâs little bit of attraction in season 1 gave âgirl falls in love with gay boy because she thinks heâs sweet and charmingâ.
Pump the brakes. Who the fuck is going âuwuâ? I am not one of these lil smol bean bitches you used to dealing with on this app. We could meet up in real life and see what you really about, trust. You have a difference in opinion and thatâs fine, but you ainât have to come up in here being disrespectful. Furthermore, I didnât diminish, replace, insult or ignore Gwen. But if I wanted to do that, I damn sure would do that and ainât shit you could or would do about it. Know that.
Now on to the next one:
Nobody ever said or thought âArthur was just using Gwen for her wombâ. Please keep your assumptions and bullshit to the people you know and not me. I never said the authors didnât write that they were in love. They TOLD us that on multiple occasions. But when it comes to writing itâs better to show and not tell. If you have to do the latter then usually thereâs something wrong with the writing. The subtext(because yes, that does exist. Shocking I know.) reads Merthur. And that makes sense since that was what the writers intended. Thereâs some shit on one of the Blue rays where a writer literally says itâs a love story between two men. Itâs as platonic as Xena and Gabrielle. I said Gwen doesnât have chemistry with anyone and I was mostly talking about Merlin and Arthur. But no I donât think she had much chemistry with anyone because I donât think her character was ever developed all that greatly to begin with. Sheâs a side character. This whole conversation is hilarious because you two are both working off of these crazy ass assumptions. The main one seems to be that Iâm some white person when Iâm not only black and fem, but an anthropologist and philosopher who primarily studies race/gender and spirituality religion - specifically in relation to black peoples mostly. My entire life revolves around me being black and fem. So go on ahead and miss me with all this âall the white boy characters are just so lovableâ shit, cuz that was never in my thought process. Again, never stated that the Merthur subtext was diminishing anything. I simply stated that it was clear that Merthur was the ship of the show. And again, the writer and I believe Katie said on the season 5 tape that the show was a love story between Merlin and Arthur. I never lied about the canon material. I stated how I saw Merlin and Gwenâs relationship in season one. You are attributing a bunch of shit to a short and quick post that was never even stated. Again, where is it even implied I said omegaverse fanfiction was canon? I specifically brought that up in relation to her saying she learned about Merthur from TikTok. It was the usual âYall wasnât there in the trenches with usâ type of statement. Both you sorry ass hoes need to learn how to read. Maybe print out the post next time and annotate it or something. Idk. Yall are referring to a bunch of shit that was never said by me. Both of you are working entirely off of assumptions about me that are not at all true. The first fool said some âuwu ships wars are dumbâ shit and you over here talking about white boys and âwe gaysâ. Keep it cute cuz Iâm definitely the bitch to make it ugly. I am NOT one of them smol bean bitches. Metaphorically speaking; the only trigger warning you gon get from me is the sound of the bullet firing.
You started with a good premise but now I think youâre actually insane. Merlin and Arthur had tension from day one. I was a child and I knew they were gay for one another. Gwen didnât have chemistry with anyone - least of all Merlin. Merlin wasnât interested in Gwen at all. Season 1 read as when the girl falls for the gay boy cuz heâs so nice and sweet. The actors shipped Merthur. The writers shipped Merthur and they wanted the fandom to ship Merthur. The only reason they probably didnât explicitly put it in the show was because of the time we were in. The writers and fandom have always been gay af. Because right next to Merthur is Morgwen and after that, Gwen/Lancelot. This is not at all an example of what youâre talking about. Also, TikTok? Did you just start watching the show? Watch it again please. And then watch it another time. Like we were reading/writing Merthur fanfic in 2008. I was on mf livejournal reading A/B/O dynamics Merthur fanfics. Hello??!!! Like maybe itâs because Iâve been in this fandom for over a decade - Merthur was my first fandom - but Iâm literally so affronted and flabbergasted. How do you even-
#merthur#merlin#who tf are you bitches talking to#I fight in real life#imma say uwu when I stump ya bitch ass out#never hated Gwen - loved her actually#I ainât never said a white boy character was lovable.#what Bey say? Iâm still a creole banjee bitch from Louisian#I will tell you to kys and laugh my ass to sleep

Donât pause your story to explain characters/character chemistry.
What I mean by this is putting your story to a halt to have a paragraph or two explaining who your characters are in sentences you use on character sheets.
Now Iâm not saying donât use exposition. Itâs necessary after all.
But there is a way to get your audience to understand who your characters are without pausing the story progressing. You can tell your audience who they are without it feeling like youâre shoving the info in their face.
Iâm going to show an example from one of my own works:
âCharlie Sue is the world of Fateâs well known Chosen One. Every week on Saturday Morning at the strike of twelve, itâs his job to go out on the town to hunt for crimes to fight and bring justice to. However, despite his fame status, heâs rather unenthusiastic of this action, and would much rather keep quiet and curl up in a book to read about the average life of the folk without destinies. But due to his status, he will still do the job and canât say no.â
âSherilyn Rosuto, his housemate, is quite the opposite. She loves these crime fighting outings. Sheâs an action seeking girl at her core, taking interest in the brawling going around town, sports or otherwise. She is loud, carefree, and impulsive in how she approaches things, so Charlie has to keep her in check.â
âCharlie and Sheri are childhood best friends. They care about each other very deeply and want each other to be at their best. Sheri is Charlieâs Number Two. Wherever he goes, she will always be thrilled to tag along. She keeps him motivated about the next outing, whether it be training, or her own enthusiasm. Despite destiny decreeing Sheri as merely a sidekick to Charlie, Charlie truly values her as a good friend he canât do without.â
Whatâs WRONG with this?
Well, one, this is a character sheet from mine before I even wrote a draft.
These paragraphs are good at directly telling you who these two characters are and what their dynamic is.
BUT thatâs all they do. They put the story in a screeching halt to give the audience this exposition. As a result, itâs telling you how you should feel about them, without actually giving you a reason to care about them or their chemistry.
You can get all this important information across through action and interaction.
Make some key lines implying who they are and what theyâre thinking. Making it feel like they are who you want them to come across as.
In this case, two best friends who motivate each other.
So instead of using those paragraphs, I created a whole introductory scene of these two and their dynamic, setting up the action to progress the story.
What does this say about them? A LOT, ACTUALLY.
Everything in those paragraphs from earlier is established here, but itâs natural, and not pandering who they are. You SEE how good of friends they are and what their characterization is.
Now granted itâs not perfect, on a Google doc this scene is about 2 1/2 pages so it could be trimmed if you wanted it to be.
Charlie starts the scene lazily reading, establishing not only his interest in books, but what else he takes interest in on what heâs reading. Itâs said what the title of the book is. So you get a picture on his interest in the mundane life outside of his current life.
Sherilyn is the one to bring up the time, AKA, what time it is they usually start their outing. And she spends this section trying to strike up a conversation with Charlie to get him to come along.
She also talks about a sports related event, showing she takes interest in that sort of thing. She is also a brawler of the two of them.
Sherilyn also smashes her mug to get his attention, showcasing her loose cannon personality. You can tell from that simple action that sheâs not only the talkative loud type, but the impulsive type.
Charlieâs clumsiness is also shown here as he accidentally breaks a lamp throwing his book. (Lamps breaking is a running gag throughout this book btw)
Sheri also has ice powers. Thatâs shown as she uses it to take care of the lamp mess.
You also get a description of their sides of their room to get more sense of their personality. I personally love these sorts of setting descriptions, especially if theyâre telling you something about their characters. Charlie has some more of those mundane books, again, bookworm into mundane stuff. Thereâs some trinkets on his nightstand, implying that Charlie likes collecting these mundane non-magical things. Sheri meanwhile is an artist, a spray painter to be exact, and sheâs a bike rider and a boxer, those are the kind of things she does, and the sports sheâs into.
Charlie also sarcastically cheers for the day at their dog, again showing he doesnât actually like these outings.
Sheri then, playfully, gets them warmed up for this outing to motivate him. Which starts more of their banter and interactions to understand both their characters and how good of friends they are.
Charlie comments against not showing off his body, telling us he doesnât like that kind of exposure.
Charlie mentions Sheri dreamed of getting muscle since her twelfth birthday. Indicating that these two have been friends for quite awhile. (Theyâre seventeen.)
Sheri also uses the dog to describe something world building wise. Weeklings. Which are implied in this scene to be monsters by Sheriâs playful description. Charlie also comments that Bridge (location) Dark Lords (character group) donât usually carry the kind Sherilyn is describing. Telling us where they are on the worlds map and how low the threat level is where theyâre at.
These two also have playful banter regarding weaponry, in a friendly way. Telling us Sheri doesnât use weapons, and Charlie advices she try it, showing concern for her when he asks if her face counts as a shield.
Sheri gives some encouragement to Charlie. She understands him and that he doesnât like these outings, indicating familiarity and that sheâs known him for awhile. She cheers him up a bit by suggesting going to a movie afterwards. Not a bar brawl lol.
You also see how Charlie is the cautious one by speaking against taking a motorcycle to their outing. And Sheri is the athletic one and wants her friend in top shape.
SO MUCH INFORMATION AND SO MUCH CHARACTER, AND BARELY OF IT IS NARRATED DIRECTLY. YOU SEE IT NATURALLY.
This whole scene is meant to be a character establishing scene that helps you understand the main characters and to get the action of the story started. The crime fight outing theyâre going to kickstarts the entire plot.
Show Donât Tell. Move the story along.
If a scene isnât progressing the story, it should be telling you something about characters and why the audience should care about them.
Your audience should be shown why they should care about your characters and their dynamics. By getting to know who they are and why they either care about each other or donât.

Hypocrisy anon here and I agree completely with your response, especially the tags.
I really hope a p:eg writer writes a fic about a Danganronpa character being plopped into Project Eden's Garden cause I feel like the dichotomy between them and the cast would be so good.
Like I could see the cast seeing Makoto as a complete anomaly with how optimistic he is even compared to Diana. With Hajime I could see many of the characters shunning him with Damon doing so too. Nagito and Kokichi I feel like would be even more wildcards than they were in their own games.
If Eva had been with any other group she either wouldn't have murdered or I think she would've won that Killing Game. The THH and SDR group were like so friendly and trusting of one another that each trial was a gut punch because they knew someone had genuinely betrayed them or felt like they had been backed into a corner into becoming one of the Blackened. (Aside from Celestia who was just straight up trying to win it lol)
I definitely think she would've won the Killing Game for THH if she befriended Naegi and still did her whole "I'm gonna frame someone else" plot. Only because I think Naegi and the others would have had too much faith in her T_T
Hajime had to vote for multiple people he actually liked so I don't think she'd have won SDR's Killing Game, but alternatively she wouldn't have murdered if she had a support group and seeing as the SDR crew were like legit besties even after the Killing Game, I could see her not resorting to murder.
V3 however, idk I feel like she would've lost. She'd have had to tell a lie so convincing that it'd trick the REAL Ultimate Liar, Kokichi Ouma and I just don't see Eva doing that. But I do think she'd bond with other characters in V3 because she wouldn't be the only person with an "unusual" talent. (That, and her ostracizing starts because she's the first to point out the naivety of believing no one would murder. The other crews I feel would've had more people who would've agreed with her openly rather than following some leader. That way she wouldn't be alone in her opinion, which sort of makes her spiral from the jump.)
Like Kirigiri and Byakuya would've agreed with her in THH, I can see Fuyuhiko and Peko backing her up on the whole "we really CAN'T trust people like that..." point, Maki and Shuichi would've also agreed with the idea of it etc...but in Eden's Garden the only person she had was Damon, and Diana agreed but not outwardly and she did just stay quiet for the most part T_T (i love Diana but I feel like Eva had a bit of a point, it's like when you're in a group of friends and they're bullying someone and you point out how they're all being kind of mean, but nothing happens bc you don't do anything personally to distance yourself from that kind of behavior.)
That, and the other crews didn't have a "leader" until like the very end. Sure there was someone to help lead the discussions of the trials, but outside of trials they didn't have someone who dictated what they did or when they did it etc. Like nobody was looking to Naegi or Shuichi or Hajime as leaders to make decisions for everyone. When Wolfgang was like "Just bring any suspicious clues to me next time Desmond" I knew that shit wouldn't fly if it was THH or something (Byakuya would've called him out on it so fast lmao)

i finished my first datv playthrough a few hours ago and now i want to share some thoughts about it.
it was... nice. i was fully expecting to be kind of shit because of all the criticism, even if i knew most came from the "anti-sjw" crowd. i don't think i could have loved it because i personally hate the whole "dalish gods actually evil" plot (the elves and my warden mahariel do not deserve this! they suffer enough already!) but it was an okay wrap-up. it was nice to be able to kick solas' ass.
that being said i really missed some things from the past games, especially from inquisition (the mechanics from which i like most of the series), like being able to play past the main questline, having more impactful choices on the world around me, seeing cameos from past games (datv has some, but in inquisition you get alistair! hawke themselves!). also the combat, but that's painfully obvious. datv combat sucks ass. and after inquisition, where you could position characters, play with the tactical camera etc that was a tremendous letdown.
all in all... 8/10? maybe 7.5/10, if i were to be honest with myself. i love dragon age too much for that, though.
and now i'll go back to it and make another rook. bellara, emmrich, harding and davrin, i love you and i will be seeing you again.
ps: i hate how they used the blight so indiscriminately. idk invent your own evil we fought the blight in da:o already.
pps: why is the inquisitor stuck using the shadow dragon's pjs? FREE HER.

Happy 8 months of Challengers!!! Justin Kuritzkes interview with Al Horner
Shout out to Al, for asking great
questions!!! I thought this was a great interview.
Some of my favorite highlights from the interview:
AH: Thereâs a reading of this film and Tashiâs arc in particular that kind of like explores the idea, I suppose that like Tashiâs sense of injustice at what was taken from her as this tennis starlet who very much anticipated living one type of life is that like she has this kind of obsession with tennis and winning. Sheâs trying to vicariously live through Art, but itâs never going to fully satisfy her. And it leads to this, particular love triangle in which, well, the read online is âPatrick loves Art, Art loves Tashi, but Tashi is kind of incapable of loving either because she just loves winning so much, to the point itâs such a point of obsession.â I donât know if I quite agree with it because like, I do think thereâs genuine love for both parties there. But Iâm curious what your take is or how you thought of the character as you approached her on the page.
JK: Yeah, I donât think anybody is that simple, and I donât think anybody ever wants one thing. I think it, it would be very tidy and very neat to say this one really wants -âHe really wants her. She really wants him. All of that.â That I think is kind of like thatâs just not as interesting to me as what I feel like is the truth about them, which is that they all want conflicting things. And you know, I think whatâs frustrating for Tashi about these two guys is that in a way, I always thought of her as somebody whoâs really hungry to be seen fully and to be understood fully and met as she is. Patrick and Art both see parts of her and are both in love with different parts of her. But neither one is in love with the whole thing. Neither one can accept the whole thing. And she is in love with parts of each of these guys, but canât love the whole thing because theyâre deficient in some way. And in a way that demand makes is her deficiency. You know, that sort of stubbornness is her deficiency, but also how could she demand less? She has too much respect for herself. So I think that then gets reflected in the way they all play tennis. Patrick plays in this very wild, naturally gifted, sort of explosive, athletic way. Art plays in this well mannered, studied by the book, disciplined way. But Tashi before her injury, had both. And thatâs how you become a great tennis player. Thereâs a great essay by David Foster Wallace about Roger Federer. He talks about how there was a moment when tennis moved from being classical music to Metallica and that there was a sort of trend around the time that Federer became ascendant of power baseliners, like Nadal, for the most part, that his game is a lot of just power from the baseline. And of course, Nadal does a lot of other stuff very well, but thatâs the predominant mode of his tennis, right? This overpowering of the opponent. Itâs a very muscular sort of tennis. And what David Foster Wallace says about Federer is that he somehow managed to play classical music and Metallica at the same time. To watch that is liking meeting God. To watch that in person is like a religious experience. And so that was very much what I was thinking about when I was thinking about just how good Tashi is.
AH: Thereâs a crucial moment later on in the movie where Tashi secretly meets up with Patrick to ask him throw the upcoming match he has against Art and sheâs doing this out of love for Art. She wants to boost his ego and arguably their marriage is on the line. Itâs tied up in this game. She and Patrick have this explosive argument that leads to them having sex inside his car. And again, in terms of the ambiguity in this film, purposeful ambiguity, there is some debate as to how much of that was premeditated, how much of it was transactional almost, and Iâm curious on how you approached all this on the page. Were you kind of aware or were you letting the characters dictate you on what they were doing or what was your read on the granular details of what everyone is doing in that scene?
JK: Well, I think, again, sometimes people are doing things for more reasons than they know, and sometimes people are not on top of their own motivations. And thatâs a very exciting place for a character to be because thereâs a tension between what a character is saying and what their body is doing. A character is revealing themselves in ways theyâre not intending. And I was just as surprised by all of that as I was writing it, as I think people watching it probably are. That was really at that point in the movie, I was trusting the characters to go where they wanted to go. So, yeah, I think I like that you said that she is doing it some respect out of love for Art. Because I do think there is a real part of Tashi that is genuinely trying to make this marriage work for her. And she knows herself well enough to know that if he gives up right now, if she has to watch him completely give up on his career and on his potential and resign himself to being done before heâs forced to by time for instance, that she will not be able to love him. She wonât be able to be there for that. So thereâs that. Thereâs also the fact that Art is the person through whom Tashi has been playing tennis for 10 years or however long itâs been. And so she knows that the moment that Artâs tennis career is over, thatâs the end of her tennis career, and sheâs not ready to give that up. So she needs that. And at the same time, she probably really, thereâs a part of her that really wants to see Patrick and really wants to get into that car, and she wants to jolt Patrick out of his slump and out of his self pity and out of his bullshit. So Iâm not sure she knows at the moment that what sheâs really after is what ends up happening at the end of the movie, where everybodyâs cards are out on the table and theyâre all pushing each other to in some ways be the best selves and in some ways be their most naked selves. I donât know if sheâs got enough of a handle on the situation to have a fully planned to thatâs where sheâs trying to lead everything. But I think sheâs got a lot of different competing stories that sheâs telling herself about why sheâs in the car.
And Patrick is the kind of guy that goes, you do want to fuck me, youâre here because you want to fuck me and youâre so full of shit, you wonât admit it to yourself. And that says everything about why she feels the way she does about Patrick, both good and bad.
Tashi has easily become one of my favorite characters and itâs nice to hear when your interpretations are similar to the writer and actressâs interpretations. It feels like Iâm not just spitballing lol.
Justin also talked about how the signal was something that was always there and he was writing towards it. Also shoutout to pega on Ao3, Justin said if Art wasnât playing tennis, heâd be in medical school. You cooked on that one. He also talked Luca mentioning the corners of the love triangle literally touching and how important it was to include a scene where all 3 of them have a moment of togetherness and it being a major thing that the 3 of them are trying to get that feeling back again.

my thoughts on the whole cyanide situation
hi as cyanides 1# fan i am required by law to make a post about this/HEVJ also like half of this is copied and pasted from discord because i am NOT rewriting all that/SILLY also sorry for any spelling mistakes:(
SPOILERS AHEAD
anyways, if ill be 100% honest, i kind of dont like the fact that cyanide was purifed/uncorrupted. it was one of her most unique traits and i hate how that was just, boom, taken away from her just like that
they also didnt really have to uncorrupt her, she isnt hostile and pretty much harmless as long as she dosent touch the chest shape doohickey whatever those are things, as seen in episode 9, where she sat on the couch and did not corrupt it at all, and when tsavorite held her along with the other heroes who were quite literally squished together and nobody got hurt
as seen here, cyanides ONLY time corrupting something which in this case is circusic, by just touching his chest thingy
and as i mentioned, tsavorite held cyanide on the way to the poly forest, along with cyan and gold who were squished against her, and not getting hurt at all, which quick recap for a sec heroes cannot get corrupted, whenever the corruption/anything corrupted touches them they get hurt, which in this case nobody is
and i have a bit more examples but i think these are enough unless yall want more
ANYWAYS, onto the purification and maturing, THE DISAPPOINTMENT I FELT. THE DISAPPOINTMENT. i cannot stress enough how much i PRAYED this wouldnt happen, but brittany always proves us wrong and gets our hopes up one way or another
but dont get me wrong, i adore her design! its cute, sure, but it was WAAAYYYY too early to pull the purification card on cyanide, it couldve waited a few more episodes, or seasons... or just never (this could be biased but STILL) cyanide had SO MUCH potential as a character but just POOF!!! GONE!! BUUUUUUT i absaloutely loved the bossfight tho, absaloute banger 10/10
and as for the name, i dont really know how i feel about it. its supposed to be similar to cyan, sure, but it just... dosent really fit her if ill be honest. ive seen some cool alternitives like Skye and Nithiodote (which honestly i might start using whoever thought of that you deserve a gold star), and also the one i came up with, Cyanogen. (which im really proud of myself for that:3) but overall its a pretty nice name for her, she chose it herself so at least shes happy
and now the actual design, its adorable, ill agree on that one, but its kinda... too much for a hero?? it dosent really scream "hero" to me, and i dont know if im the only one who thinks this though, like.. its kind off tacky and makes her look out of place in a way and im really sad about that
ALSO ONE MORE THING, can i say she was SSUUCCHH good angst material?? we never really got to actually get to know her better, all we know shes a naive, (used to be) corrupt that wants to be a hero and also is a robot, we dont really get to dive into her actual personality and thats what i was hoping this episode will be if ill be honest
anyways i ran out of things to write so yap over everyone go home/SILLY feel free to correct me im open to criticism:)

I got the full We Are Robin series for chirstmas! So here are some random silly things I noticed
Though I don't have any of the Robin War crossover or tie-in issues, which is a bummer but still.
Duke is like a self certified adrenaline junkie & says as much within like the first few pages
So yeah I get it. Mortality. It's about survival. Spent so much time surviving lately I feel like I've gotten addicted to it. To the Rush. I mean, I know why. It's all endorphins and adrenaline. I shouldn't trust it I shouldn't love it this much in all it's chemical falseness. But I'm a junkie now. worse stuff to be hooked on I guess. Issue #1, Page 4
Riko like definitely had a crush on Duke at some point and the angst is only further fueling my mind
Not crazy about the alternative cover to Issue #9B[right], it's cute but it feels like it belongs to another plot idea, #9A[left] looks more inline and it's just genuinely one of the coolest covers for this series
I really liked how it felt like all the Robin kids where pretty equal in page time & relevance to the story, I would have like some more of Riko in the later Issues but she did get a whole one to herself with a completely different artist
Focusing on that, Issue #4 is fucking gorgeous, like Jorge Corona's style is so much fun and comicy but the combined work of James Harvey, Diana Egea & Alex Jaffe brings to life a completely different type of very comic/graph novel style. Along with the fact the busyness of it reflects off of Riko's own personality & mentality. The two page spreads, the lack of barely any panel lines b/c each panel just looks that different from each other, the colors & pattern overlays, it's gorgeous and I could go off on a separate post about it another time. It's a shame I don't have all the covers with their style!
Though having Babs specifically be Riko's batgirl doesn't make much sense in a real world timeline but this is comic time soooo, i still would have like Steph to be her batgirl!
Duke has watched the Hobbit, and he thinks of himself as himself as more of the sword guy but he also like Legolas b/c he thinks he's cool & honestly that says alot about Duke's personality
Always thought of myself as more swarthy sword-weilding badass with the five-o'clock shadow. Or at least that elf dude. Yeah... that elf dude had style. Issue #1 Page 3
I've already read these volumes a couple months ago, so coming back to them was refreshing and I'm glad to have them physically, makes them alot easier to read and understand when I have 'em there physically
Also made me learn more about Troy, I thought he was a bit full of himself at first but he was genuinely just a good kid trying to do good, and his failure to do so resulted in his death and it's one of two things that breaks down our group of Robins [the other being Gordon's robo-batman denouncing the We Are Robin movement as a whole]
Troy Walker...Above average student with interests in political activism, history, and philosophy. Issue #4 Back Page 2
I'm pretty sure Duke is the youngest of our group of Robins, like the character summaries at the back of Issue #4, Duke-16, Riko-16, Dax-17, Izzy-17, Troy-17, Dre-17, which I think is one of best realizations I had about this story
No Duke isn't really the leader of WaR I'd say but the end of the series he's more just a working member of the most active group of Robins
By #12 they're very much a "We" "Us" "All" sort of group and saying they have a distinct leader would do them a disservice, though if I remember correctly there was some sort of hierarchy mentioned in the Robin War crossover issues, but we're gonna work around those for a second, at least until I get me hands on them/reread them again
I'd say the leaders are who ever is most determined to be a Robin within the moment, which Duke isn't at the beginning but is later on [round #6 #11 & #12] and even then he's often sharing that drive to be Robin with another Robin [usually Riko honestly]
And I'd say the Robin with the biggest & consistent want are Riko, Shug & Dax, in that order but mainly cause Dax had an era of doubt after Troy died & Robo-Batman denounced them
Riko hallucinates Batgirl and I need that to be talked about, like the hallucination isn't all that strong, purely visual, but it's high-def and it moves like a person and reacts to what she says to it [in the middle of class while a teacher is trying to get her attention mind you] I think the spread where it happens is the 2nd one I put up top
Izzy is actually a very emotional person, and I think she's the first character to cry in the series, [they are literally disarming a highly dangerous explosive and I think that's so valid for her] and honestly non of her emotions are like unwarrented, she's constantly on her last fucking leg, between late nights at her family resturant, combined with homework till 3 and chronically late to school to the point it might get her held back or expelled she's pretty tired with it all
I think my favorite moment for her was when her brother Hector [who she despises but also that's her brother so like] died to that weird Owl-Man Talon thing [which like I'm pretty sure died in Robin War], and when Talon-Man was about to kill Duke & Riko, like her black mascara/eyeshadow tears as she held that thing at gun point where devastating, not to mention it's goading her on & Duke & Riko are trying to get her to drop the gun aswell
Talon: Yes! this one understands the true nature[kill or be killed] of things! Izzy:...Gonna...gonna bury this creep. Tryin' to sell us the future Duke: C'mon, drop the gun! Talon: Pull the trigger, my beautiful killer. Take your first step towards a new world. Izzy: I'll so it...come any closer an I'll-- Issue #6 Page 7
This Issue also cements our Robins and their relationship to batman some more
Riko, Duke & Dax are the leaders in this Issue, more so the 1st two cause Dax doesn't have much page time, but still the sentiment of them not being wannabes/worshipers Batman's like everyone thinks and instead their own group is important here
Talon: Your code...the Bat's code...it is folly...He won't help you. Issue #6 page 5 Riko: Robins don't kill Izzy. You know this. Remember who we are. Talon: Young fool! Your false idol will be your undoing. Riko: Not trying to be like Batman. Trying to be better. Issue #6 page 10
I like Dre he's actually a really interesting guy, and you have to look past all the walls he pulls up [which are interesting in'n'off themselves] and see a kid who wants to be a vigilante, he's one of the leaders for Issues #9 & #10, being his own vigilante & operative after the Robin Laws are passed, he doesn't back down one bit & stays steadfast in his want to help people, going against Smiley in his Joker era as the first Robin to do so
He's just honestly cool, and I like the way he starts as a pessimist to the idea of Nest, but that doesn't fully stop him from wanting to help people, he gets back into it the moment he pulls himself together
I don't think I've brought up Dax properly yet but he's definitely one of the connectors of the group, [the others being Shug & Riko], once he gets out of his early bought of pessimism after Robo-Bat disavows them he is a consistent leader within the group and pushes the others to fucking do something, but his connecting work is mainly done for Izzy & Dre, Izzy when she's in her slump later on, & when Dre when he's running solo without the others, he pulls the wayward birds closer to the rest of the flock
Having read this series & reminiscing on "Batman & The Signal" & "The Outsiders" I don't like the way they portray Duke much at all
Lee Bermejo gets Duke in a way I don't think the other writes really do, this Duke, WaR!Duke, would not have become The Signal, he would have been Lark, and I mourn the lose of what he could of been had he not been pushed into become The Signal, it would have been interesting to see Damian & Tim share Robin with a kid they had to actually deal with, it might have actually forced Tim to move on completely from Robin, it might have gotten Damian more friends, it would have given Duke a more interesting story in my opinion
Okay I'm tired now, so i'm just put my fav covers of the ones I have from this series in left to right descending order of favorite-to-least favorite.
Goodnight! & Happy Holidays everyone!!!!

ok SO. this is a long one, I apologize in advance.
Without knowing your personal tastes in shows/media, I'm going to give my favorites.
My personal favorite anime is Bungo Stray Dogs. A detective anime where real world authors are imagined as characters with special abilities based off of the books they wrote. It's sort of a crack show that turns into a really well fleshed out story with more serious themes. Heavy cw for suicide/mental health tho with that one. For fanservice/ick levels in BSD, there's a joke incest couple (a common happenstance in anime unfortunately but its a common comedy trope in japanese media), but it's not prominent at all minus a few jokes in the first few episodes.
The Promised Neverland is a psychological horror anime, and I wont say too much about it because *spoilers* :) Its seriously amazing. For fanservice, absolutely none. However. There is a character midway through season 1 named Sister Krone, her character is fleshed out writing-wise, but her design is a racist caricature of sorts. Otherwise I recommend the show so highly, its a show i wish i could see for the first time again. (also season 1 is where it ends. i prommy. Dont watch past that if you watch TPN for the sake of your own mental health).
Moving on to Sk8 the Infinity. Another personal favorite of mine, a goofy skateboarding show with the most endearing characters ever and gutwrenching (imo) interpersonal issues between the characters. Its also heavily queer coded which is cool, and is getting a second season sometime in the near future :). Another one i wish i could see for the first time again. It's only main issue imo is it's villain being pretty heavily coded as a groomer, but the show doesnt justify it really. Come for the goofy skateboarders stay for the queer couples that are basically canon ("Reki my love... of skateboarding-" a real quote from the show btw these boys are STUPID) and the kind of insane plot. Fanservice: not much, sorta just a lack of diversity with this one. Hoping it improves in s2
Death Note. what is there to say about death note that hasnt already been said. A classic anime with extremely impressive writing depicting god complexes, and the consequences of what it means to inflict personal justice. It's another detective show but the core of it is a commentary on black and white thinking. I think about this show so often osduifjowisejf. Fanservice/ick: none as far as i remember. I need to rewatch the show but any sort of sexual comments (of which there aren't many) are used in a way to further develop existing characters and how they interact with others. No weirdos in this one just psychological horror and a pinch of existential dread <3.
BNA (Brand New Animal). A lesser known anime about furry city and societal commentary. It does do the whole animals as a metaphor for racism bit but its not the main focus of the show and has more of a focus on class struggle (..and religious imagery. for some reason) and interpersonal conflicts! A bonus to this anime is also that it's absolutely STUNNING, I love Studio Triggers art and the COLORS ough. Scrumptious. There's no icks or fanservice in this show from what I remember, the mc is a woman (and is sort of a metaphor for a mixed race kid) and we love her for that. Extremely strong characters all around. Good show :) (sidenote! BNA did get discontinued due to lack of popularity so theres a few loose plot threads that will unfortunately never get tied up. Just a fair warning).
My last anime rec. I think. Im listing off the less offensive ones, so theres not as many in my immediate list. Saiki K! A comedy anime that focuses primarily on subverting anime tropes. The main character Saiki has basically every power under the sun, and would be a typical mary sue esc character but his main goal in life is to be the most unnoticed person ever. I dont think any summary i write could do it justice so I'm just gonna promise that this show is genuinely so good and I highly recommend it. Fair warning that most of the characters aren't the most developed as they're meant to be direct characterizations of tropes and not much more than that. For fanservice and icky stuff theres none that I can remember. I haven't seen season 2 though, as theres no english dub.
(also i agree with the dunmeshi recs i just saw it recommended like 3 times so i dont need to repeat it)
There's my unnecessarily lengthy opinions :) I wish you happy anime watching, its a really fun category of media!
wanna try watching some kind of anime at some point because they look cool but a. i know there's a misogyny and racism problem and im not sure which ones are bad about it and b. i have no idea where to even start with that

I am liking Jujutsu Kaisen, way more than I imagined I would, but I foresee it will let me down and it's keeping me from enjoying this as much as I could haha
I think the characters and dynamics are well set, and I think many of them have an incredibly good and deep potential, but I would be willing to bet they'll not get a proper development, enough for them to really hit. A well assembled set of gears is not enough to make the movement go, you have to wind the clockwork.
I think Gojo and Megumi have a fascinating and very complex dynamic, but I doubt it will be given the time and care that imo it needs to actually work. And it is going well enough for now! One could see the intimacy between them was deeper than the one Gojo had with, say, Yuji and Nobara ever since the very first few episodes despite the fact Fushiguro too was a first year. But the pieces forming what they have are extremely complex, and it just wouldn't be realistic if it doesn't show, even if in a not showing way, or if it doesn't have consequences or implications.
It's one of those dynamics that shape one's life, the way one regards the world, the way one establishes or not relationships with other people. It's one of those dynamics that could be full of fondness, gratitude, resentment, admiration, trust, and that imply intimacy, the good kind or the bad, even if in just the knowledge of someone who's been a constant through your life. It could, and would, imply a myriad of feelings, and probably in such a mix it could imply contradictory feelings too. Even the nothingness would weight, even the nothingness would be significant and meaningful.
Gojo took Megumi and his sister under his wing, the son of a man who murdered him, because of both selfish and selfless reasons. Megumi looks like Toji. What does Gojo feel about this? How does Gojo deal with this? How does Gojo go about taking care of Megumi? Would he walk him to school? Make him breakfast? Celebrate his birthdays making him blow candles? Did he take him to the zoo? Does the relationship between them feel professional or is it something more? Gojo appreciates his students, but is Megumi to him just another student? When Gojo faces Sukuna in Megumi's body, did he see the kid he raised, or does he just see Sukuna in one of his students' body? Did he have one faint wavering instant? And how does Megumi feel about this? Is he resentful of him? Resentful of the situation? Of the selfishness behind his actions? Does he feel like a pawn? Is he grateful? Does he resent feeling grateful? Would he rather not? Does he love Gojo? Does he feel nothing about him other than what he could feel about a teacher that sort of annoys him but knows he's reliable in his strength? Does he think it unfair, cruel or unfeeling that Gojo is close, closer perhaps, with Yuuji or Yuta, considering their story? When Sukuna slices Gojo in two, does the remnants of Megumi's soul tremble?
And not just Megumi and Gojo. Yuuji and Nanami, Gojo and Nanami, Yuuji and Fushiguro, Nobara and the boys, or Nobara and Maki, Todo and Yuuji or Yuta, Gojo and Yuta, Megumi and his sister. Gojo and Geto, even! If the pieces are well set, the dynamics are intriguing, interesting, and have potential to be deep, but then the characters have like two plot relevant scenes that punch you hard, but little more, it's not nearly enough. Especially not nearly enough for the enormity that is shonen dynamics and situations. And the potential existing at all, and then not delivering, makes it all the more frustrating when you're left with something mediocre that could have been so good.
The development of dynamics through not only a few plot relevant gut wrenching moving scenes, but also the smallness of life, is important. The friend who recommended this to me said that those things were just unnecessary filler, but I disagree. I think there's a big difference between a large amount of anime-only filler episodes whose existence is based on the fact they had run out of manga chapters to animate, and moments of quietness. The low stakes character-driven moments of quietness can be so telling and so insightful, and they are so satisfactory when brought back later in higher stakes situations. My friend teased me there was no scene of Gojo making breakfast to Megumi, that it would be an idiotic idea, but it would be so telling. How he makes breakfast, what they eat, if he tries hard or if it's all mechanised, if they have personal bowls or if they use whatever, if he just buys them some pastry on the way to school, if the way they have breakfast changes through the years, or if he doesn't make them breakfast at all! All that would be very insightful on their dynamic and its evolution. All that would give a glimpse on how they regard each other and why, even in the present. All that could become meaningful in tense situations and high stakes scenes.
These moments also let the plot breath; if a lot is happening all the time, if every character is always experiencing trauma after trauma, the entire story is so emotionally draining that at some point you don't even care all that much. Besides, these nothing moments or low stakes plot arcs, besides deepening and developing dynamics, also let some in-world time pass, which would make the intimacy and bond between characters more believable imo; between Yuuji eating Sukuna's finger and their last confrontation in December how much time has passed? A few months? Am I truly to believe these characters are so everything to each other in only a few months?
Without some smallness, some repetition, some daily life, some low stakes not plot-centric development, the dynamics don't hit, they don't truly feel fleshed out, and dynamics as complex as the ones Megumi and Gojo have, or as supposedly meaningful as the one Megumi has with Yuuji or his sister, should be fleshed out if they're going to exist at all. Otherwise they'd risk making the writing feel awkward and fake. Besides, if the dynamics felt well fleshed out and realistic, they would shape the way the characters interact and act, and how they deal with situations, thus being plot relevant.
The shonen genre has so much happening all the time, the stakes are so high, the dynamics are so rooted in big events and the relationships carry enormous weight and implications. Yet they barely get developed, and it feels so stupid, so plain, the absence of something so important noticeable like a constant void, a shapeless nothingness present in every scene. It makes the characters feel like cardboard figures. Jujutsu Kaisen is already getting a better job than many, but I doubt it will do enough for what I've heard, and I fear I am bound to feel let down, and bound to feel unmoved.
After all, if not enough time and care has been given to develop a dynamic, I am not going to feel pressured by the high stakes; if not enough time and care has been given to develop the dynamic between Megumi and Yuuji, as good potential as it has I am bound to feel little for this last confrontation between Sukuna and Itadori, and his effort in getting Megumi back.
#It's not that I think everything has to be character driven or take a lot of care about dynamics#Death Note for instance works well without it. There's juice in the dynamic between Light and his father and the role of Matsuda there#and it works well with Light's views and their evolution and the whole Kira situation. It isn't much. It doesn't need more#But Death Note doesn't truly drop something as big as Gojo and Megumi to then do barely nothing about it#('But L and Watari' not the same at all. That was deepened in the anime and besides Watari is not one of the main characters)#Or Megumi and his sister. If we see barely nothing of Megumi and his sister other than shiny flashbacks of her#how am I to feel moved by it all beyond superficial emotions? I don't know. It just feels so like cardboard to me#And it annoys me! It annoys me a lot! Because Jujutsu Kaisen has amazing potential! The dynamics and characters could be amazing!#But I don't trust they'll live to their full potential and the potential existing for nothing is ruining this for me xD#Jujutsu Kaisen#Sorry this time I'm tagging it. I want to find this and see if I was right when I'm finished. I think I'll read the manga too#The condescending filler breakfast comment by my friend was ironic considering the Kramer vs. Kramer breakfast scenes exist#Breakfast can be so telling. And besides he loves the Chainsaw Man coffee scene so I don't get why not breakfast#But truly some small daily life moments can tell us a lot about a character that we could recognise later on in high stakes scenes#such as how they deal in tense situationsâ what makes them snap#how they go about dealing with a problem.#Sometimes it could be smaller moments or conversations what makes characters reconsider thingsâ not just having Sukuna rip their heart out#In Pandora Hearts the conversation between Elliot and Oz about the book series they love and their favourite characters becomes key#Oz's development and how he regards thingsâ his own personâ and how he deals with situations will be shaped later on by this conversation#till the very end. The entire main character's development is shaped by a 'filler' conversation. It's not filler. It's just not a fight scen#Shonen manga readers find everything filler except for fights which is ironic considering that many fights in shonen feel unnecessary#Breakfast is unnecessary. Just filler. Fighting thirty seven secondary monsters or chapter after chapter of physical training is not. Okay#Things can be small but plot relevant. If it shapes and fleshes out and deepens a character or a relationship it is not filler#And mainly MAINLY for the love of everything good if you're going to make a fucked up or Meaningful Beyond Everything dynamic#give it time and care. Actually write it. Don't give me two panels and one conversation after some life and death situation. It's not enoug#Especially if I'm to believe they are important. Make me believe they actually are#I don't know... This issue with not trusting the development of very well set potential in Jujutsu Kaisen#has not only been keeping me from thoroughly enjoying the seriesâ but actively keeping me from watching for weeks#It makes me doubt if I want to spend my time in this at all since after all time is limited and we can but spend it in a handful of things#A pity. I really love some things and I really think Megumi and Gojo could be everything to me haha the Heathcliff/Hareton vibe gets me

Yeah this is about right (as always my thoughts are in the tags so there's actually kei content there lmao)
#Hester I adore you they could never make me hate you. Seriously the first chapter in 6 (bad candy) is like my favourite opener#Kei they could NEVER EVER make me hate you. did nothing wrong ever. rhian when I CATCH you#its so funny how my two favourite characters just like. hate each other. like japeth literally kills him#sad cause they're so SIMILAR. theyre both victims of Dog Metaphor its so sad that kei does Not like japeth in the slightest#personally if they had a good long discussion about their emotions at like 3am they could've probably stopped TCY from happening#but alas. Aric. somehow its all his fault again. why do I have an aricposting tag but not a keiposting one.#Hester easily has the best overall characterisation arc I love love love the way soman writes her#I remember when I read 6 for the first time#before japeth insanity happened#I used to anticipate her chapters over like everyone else's. Hester the 1 lesbian in the series you are deeply loved#I could write whole essays about japeth and kei's characterisation it is so sad that soman forgets kei exists#like he's meant to be rhian's eagle. that's his job. that's what he's spent a Long Time anticipating becoming#but rhian refuses to acknowledge it. instead he calls Japeth his eagle in book 4's ending#He eventually falls in love with Sophie#he only ever cares about the crown#how he GETS to the crown#and bringing his mother back. he lies more than japeth#and never once does he get to be the eagle. There's only three spaces - lion/eagle/snake - and he doesn't get to be any of them#dont even get me started on how he dies. surrounded by white swans. being purely good#god rhian II try not to fuck EVERYTHING over challenge. and also Aric. its all arics fault as well#keiposting#japethposting#actually not really jposting. didn't do it that much#sge#tsfgae#school for good and evil#the school for good and evil#sfgae#the school of good and evil#as much as I adore Hester I dont think I will talk about her much in detail ever so no hesterposting yet

i love madoka magica however i dont think we as a fandom talk enough about how tragic madoka herself is. probably because the narrative itself steers you away from thinking about her personally. shes not a character shes a desire that homura has, shes a force of good, shes homura's foil. but those are all madoka's narrative roles but madoka herself as a person is not really looked at because we are viewing this world from an unreliable narrator(homura) who only sees madoka as those things. The best thing homura could have done for madoka was give up on her, to let her go. because every time we go back in time the image of madoka is distorted, she loses more of herself every regression of homura's as she tries harder and harder to save her. We don't even know what madoka originally wished for to become a magical girl in the original timeline. and she actually acts quite differently than the madoka we meet. shes a lot more honest and caring and bold. by the time homura's has reached the actual anime madoka has been reduced by the sands of time to a figment of herself. she has no wants or desires of her own beyond wanting to do good and help her friends and when all her humanity is stripped away is when she finally acends to godhood because thats all thats left of her. an ideal and a faith in her. madoka kaname died a long time ago and all that is left is her ghost.
#of course homura doesnt care anymore because she cant go back she can only go forward cuz if she gives up she killed madoka for nothing#she could have left her pass away with dignity but now shes a ghost stuck in a web of time and the only thing she can do is keep trying#to save her#i feel like inately homura knows this but she doesnt want to admit to herself thats shes the real one who killed madoka kaname#this is a very charitable reading of homura#homura died too but its a clear moment because homura is our narrator#homura akemi will never come back madoka kaname will never come back#but life goes on anyway for homura#heres my truth#i loved rebellion but im actually a bigger fan of the original anime's ending so im glad it seems like red ribbon homu is coming back#i thought that ending was a lot more hopeful and beautiful and rebellion was kind of a downer but i always accepted they were parallel#and seems im right based on posters#for walpurgis#madoka uses one of my favorite literary devices which is the underuse of a character#i dont know whats it called but i love it when they dont outright develop a character usually to signal an upholding of the status quo#i already explained how madoka is not shown as a character but they do this in princess tutu too with mytho#mytho is a character from a book hes not real in the way that the others are and therefore cant actually change like the others can#hes always the focus of others and never the one thinking of others#i mean yeah he spends like the whole anime thinking about tutu but thats PART of his book its not him as a person#anyway ive been talking too much but i wanna bring up my favorite subtle use of this in takopi's original sin#the boy#idk his name rn lmao#hes straight up not present for the bulk of the manga and hes legit just absent from the ending scene despite being one point of a triangle#at first that weirded me out like??? he doesnt get closure???#but the reason was he didnt need it#the focus and moral is that those girls were 'weird' unable to be normal (because of trauma) and their closure was theyre at least together#but he doesnt need that because hes already normal hes the status quo a benchmark for the reader for the reader to judge the characters off#and the characters to judge eachother off of#anyway anyway sorry this has been so long#i had to get all of that out of me

yargh. complicated characters save me complicated charactersâŚ
#im thinking about cerobaâŚ#im thinking about how ive seen so many ppl (in âhot takesâ) call her a bad mother for what she did to kanako#and im thinking about how its. silly to base the entire view of her as a character around one mistake#yes sure a very BIG mistake but still one mistake#i dont know if i would even say shes a bad mom. to do so would require me to make some kind of criteria to actually define#what MAKES a bad person#ive spoken before to a friend about how our concepts of good and bad as a whole r subjective anyway#but thats besides the point#i think ceroba as a interesting character becauseee of her mistakes because of her flaws#i think (er. KNOW) that she was a very caring mother. she loved kanako lots lots lots and did everything in her power to fix that mistake#but that doesnt take away that it still happened#im just rambling at this point. nonsense probably#but i think the reason i dislike the bad mom ceroba takes so much is that its reduction to her character in a wayâŚ#and that it cant and shouldnt rlly speak to her characterization before and after. yknow the incident#sorry thats a big messâŚ.. i have thoughts i dont know how to speak them#i could say the same abt the other characters too⌠how ppl like to equate their whole view of a char#to only a few moments with that char#weve forgotten star tried briefly to take clovers soul </3 but oh well#ok im done jfkdkd this is disorganized

is episode 8 the domitian arc ? more on this and EVEN MORE narratives iâve been ignoring that the show said âactually,,,â about in 5
#hermes staying domitianâs hand⌠hermesâ face a flash of discomfort when he was torturing tenax⌠hmm. character growth.#WHAT WAS THAT HERMES. WHAT WAS THAT LOOK. NO GIRL GET BACK HERE I CANNOT ALSO DO THIS NARRATIVE OF YOU NO LONGER ABLE TO PULL HIM BACK FROM#THE BRINK OF HIS CRUELTY WATCHING HIM CHANGE AND SEEKING OUT SOMEONE ELSE IN HIS NEED AND FEAR AND ANGST. NO BABY GIRLLLL#I DONâT WANT TO WRITE A HERMES POINT OF VIEWWWW OF THE SIX YEARS HE SPENT WATCHING DOMITIAN BLOOMMMM INTO HIS POWER AND CORRUPTTTT because.#correct me if iâm wrong but in that very first scene that was a young hermes in the white right he watched domitian give his speech and saw#his father to truly see him the whole time as hermes has seen his brilliance.#NO I ALSO SAW THAT GUARDâS HEAD FOLLOW HERMES oh i hate it here. you know what i also hate? i need domitian to be successful for tenax#but also i do kinda like titus⌠NOOOOOO NO KILLING TITUS DOMITIAN I JUST SAID I LIKED HIM!!!! DOMITIAN!!!#oh. ohhhh no. OH NOOOO okay listen we can redeem this. we can have the whole turning point of the narrative be domitianâs mercy of hermes#the ultimate staying of his hand. proving heâs not entirely gone that hermes & his love still means something. do i think this will happen#no absolutely not. before he can kill his brother domitian has to kill the only other living person he loves perhaps more than titus if he#could ever realize it. (a brief interlude to yell LETâS GO LESBIANS LETâS GO HI IRIS) domitian⌠please spare him⌠OH WAIT HELLO THE BLOOD!!#ALSO a brief interlude to say i knew it was coming but ELIAâS SPEECH ABOUT LOVING INCITATUS??? I WAS ON THIS INCITATUS SHIT WITH THE LITTLE#NOD THEY HAD WHERE SCORPUS CALLED HIM TO BEAT XENON OH MY GOD I CANâT BELIEVE THIS!!! eliaâs going to crush him. incitatus wonât listen.#scorpus is going to die twice once when they call eliaâs name instead of his and then the second time when the scorpion bites him again#(he kills himself and tenax finds him. sorry to give everyone absolutely maximum damage here but uh. thatâs how i can see it going down)#or alternatively worse: after killing titus who at times he loves and hates in equal measure (if yâall donât think I have some UNHINGED#brothers quotes. weâll keep mum here about why but suffice to say it is. relevant to other fandoms. and thus i have a Collection) the last#thing domitian has to do is kill hermes. and this one is both out of betrayal but also love because I think somewhere in here titusâ queen#berenice plays a role because domitianâs hatred of the jews probably comes to play a role and I think titus would show up and protect her#like Domitian engineers some kind of a situation where in theory titus could escape alive or beat him but he canât do that & save berenice#and so of course he saved berenice. or she dies in his arms and he goes mad with grief and any way you put it berenice is the trap & titus#happily crawls into the lionâs mouth to save her for love of her etc and domitian sees him die for it. he gives titus every chance to come#back to him to work with him to be what he wants him to be and he always chooses himself he chooses love and domitian canât understand even#when it makes him weak. and then he sees hermes dirty and emaciated and still terribly terribly beautiful and feels such a pang of longing#and love that he decides he has to die because he (domitian) cannot be weak. he cannot have any of it. also giving domitian worse paranoia#than he already has because if you kill your brother the one person who should always love youâsupport youâwho can build me a new brotherâ#youâve gotta generate some MAJOR issues. namely trust issues. and if he kills hermes theyâll be even worse. so like ideally To Me domitian#wouldnât kill him but i do very much see the symbolism of cutting off his last earthly tie & desire to ascend to the divine imperial throne#those about to die

on today's episode of 'acaica's background thoughts for the dess raises kris au': okay but lets be serious do dess and chara actually stay together in the end--
#drkau#chatter#i debate over this point SO OFTEN LOL#they are BACKGROUND characters. like medium at best.#dess (or asriel or both you can argue any way) is the catalyst for everything but at the end of the day this is a kids story#and noelle IS still going to be the main character#but. man. does desschara work it out#their dynamic will be by far one of the hardest ones to write it think#it is very messy and very complicated and neither of them make great choices#and ive been writing a test piece of them for a WHILE#which. was good to get a decent nail of their characters as they stand in this au#but introduced SO MUCH MORE MESS. bc chara is aroace and 100% has some trauma and fucked-up feelings around sex#but xe DOES have sex with dess. and its like. does xe fully consent to it? yes!#does dess check in to be sure hey you're down bc she knows chara is ace while she isnt? also yes!!!#by the books they do everything right its just. chara is very very very good at rationalizing things.#and xe is. not actually as okay with this as xe is trying to be. and in fact this is very unhealthy for xir#(and then theres this whole OTHER layer of dark worlds and prophecies and everything that leads to frisk being born)#and its like. man. Man. this is so much to juggle#just everything between desschara is jngdfg they are trying their bests but it really is not going that well#bc they meet at like. 19-20 i think and chara's had nobody at all and sorta keeps chasing being someone's most important person#and dess has never had someone who has understood her on a level like chara#who really truly gets what shes about as a person and how she operates in the world#and its just a perfect storm really. and they both have kids and dess did technically kidnap hers just a little bit#and she never tells that to chara. and she tries but she cannot stay in place with xir#and chara couldnt hate her bc. again. has never experienced unconditional love#or love at all really </3 so instead of ever having hard conversations xe will brush it all under the rug#and sorta just enable dess's worse impulses. even sometimes at the expense of their literal children#ITS MESSY YALL. AND LIKE.#at the end of the day we'll see lol maybe they work it out maybe they dont. i have no idea. ive gotta write the thing#and if dr chapters 3&4 come out that could complicate things even FURTHER--
