I get the feeling that even with The Winds of Winter the story is not going to progress all that much and that's why GRRM is hesitating on wrapping up whatever he's written so far and getting the book out.

Think about it -

There's supposedly 5 battles in TWoW. FIVE! We have the Battle of Ice up North, the battle of fire in Essos, two battles over at the Storm's End (One with JC/Aegon taking SE and the other with the Tyrell forces laying siege) and one at Oldtown (Hightower Vs Euron)

He apparently has an entire novel worth of story written for Arya in Braavos. After all the editing and cutting down I think Arya's story could end with her just entering Westeros.

Same with Daenerys - so much story to wind up in Essos that she's going to end TWoW by reaching Westeros. Lots of Tyrion POV chapters describing stuff.

With the series' two lead female characters only getting to Westeros by the end of the book, there's not much plot important that can happen without them there.

Jon will probably be only resurrected at the end of TWoW - which means lots of Ghost and Melisandre POV at the Wall. So he's out for the count as well.

Jaime/Brienne/LSH with Edmure and co being freed.

KL with Cersei trying to wrench back power and a couple of chapters of Sansa and Littlefinger and Harry the Heir in the Vale.

The North can be where we see some changes with Davos/Rickon returning and the dynamics of the Northern houses and Stannis/Theon and how that is resolved.

I think the only character where there will be - where there SHOULD be - actual story progress is Bran Stark. He is the only character positioned for the actual relevant plot and has been lagging behind so far. And it's about time the White Walker/Others story starts moving.

IMO Bran will have the most POV chapters in TWoW and given that GRRM has repeatedly mentioned that he finds Bran the hardest to write, that's where the delay is coming from. The Bran chapters. Likely GRRM sits down to write a Bran chapter, writes a word, gives up and then tries again after a month.

Also yes, it's pure copium when I keep imagining GRRM sincerely trying to finish the books...

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

Ohh, this is a hard one! 

The thing is, while I have my favorites, I find Dooku soo very shippable with a vast number of characters - not because he has any healthy understanding of his own sexual and emotional needs anymore than he has a healthy relationship with food - but because especially in his Sith era, he’s a black hole of need and loneliness. Sex is like the one way Sith are allowed to access the intimacy that fifty years of Jedi communal life has trained him to want and need. 

The ship for him that I absolutely love-hate in that vein is Sidious/Dooku. I doubt it went much further than a few absolutely debased encounters because let’s be honest, Sidious can do much better and isn’t in the habit of letting his dog eat from his plate, but whoof, what a fun, fucked up ship with nasty power dynamics. “Oh nooo, oh no, awful….where’s the link?” energy.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

I love giving Dooku big, often violent, over the top moments where his natural appetite for chaos comes out. 

Dooku gives you these amazing options as a fanfic writer. He’s so high drama. A huge part of his reserve and composure is that there’s an absolute volcano of feeling bubbling under the crust.

The things he says are absurd and beautiful, poetic and horrific, hilarious and awkward. You can push the character further than you expect, and he’ll go with you in surprising places in a piece of writing if you let him show off. This is a character who loves attention and has the natural talent and chaos to back up his own bullshit. If you can get his sound and feel right, there’s almost nothing you can’t do with him - because a core part of Dooku is the unreliable narrator: even he doesn’t always know what he’s about to do. 

I think the hardest part is his “voice” because Christopher Lee had such a distinctive cadence - it’s not just a British accent, it’s early 20th century British, who grew up bilingual and went on to speak like literally 7 different languages fluently, with a supremely deep voice, who wanted to sing opera but only got half-trained before WWII ruined that dream for him. It’s a very unique sound.

I like “my” Dooku voice in my fics and I’m proud of it; I work really hard on it and it’s why I use him as a POV character most often. But I still look at my own fics and have those record needle scratch moments where I know a line of his needs to get reworked. It’s a constant process.

The Christopher Lee accent also could not be MORE different than my own rural American one. There’s a hilarious-awful story in Lee’s autobiography, Lord of Misrule, about him getting stopped by a patrol of Americans in WWII who absolutely do not believe he’s English and they start trying to speak German to him. He goes, “you don’t have to speak German, you know, I’m fairly capable of understanding English, since that’s what I am.” 

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?

I love it when fics do a realistic job of letting Dooku be the walking contradiction he is. Two of my favorite Dooku fics right now are Pray My Mind Be Good to Me and Galaxies Far Far Away May Be Closer Than They Appear - both feature Dooku written in this way. He has done or is going to do horrific shit - shit that cannot be changed and has real consequences. In both fics, he’s also portrayed vividly, a "real person," full of genuine emotion, vulnerability, and deep investment in the other characters. Love is a part of his betrayal and betrayal is a part of his love. These two things exist in the character simultaneously in queasy, gorgeous combination. 

As far as what I don’t like, I don’t know, I think Dooku is a tremendously intimidating character to write and I’m impressed by anyone who takes a crack at writing him! I’d encourage anyone to give it a shot. 

I have one really small weird pet peeve, and that’s giving him too much stuffy, uptight rich guy cliche. Dude was a mud-grubbing mission Jedi for 50 years, himself raised by a swamp troll, who went on to train two of the most chaotic Jedi. He’s eaten more bugs than Anakin, and I'll die on that hill.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

I went pretty broad on my other answer, so I’ll tell you two lil' things!

I’m tall (ironically I’m about Sifo-Dyas’s canon height, a character whose legit tallness is often overlooked cause he’s standing next to Dooku–) and I pull a ton of my own experiences into how I write the way he moves or his little gestures, especially how small he can fold up when he’s feeling vulnerable. There’s a unique tall person awkwardness that comes from experiencing the adolescent growth spurt right at the time when it’s the most emotionally unbearable to be physically conspicuous. 

I didn’t realize I shared his exercise-away-the-strong-emotion thing until I was chatting with @bolithesenate about some fic or something, and said something offhand like “too upset about Sifo-Dyas, gotta go for a run” and she was like “uh, Jess? are you QUOTING your own Dooku characterization here?” :O Don't call me out like that, bro!! Do not perceive me!

I could go on and on an ON about this subject (and I do, just ask my friends, lol) but instead of writing you a whole essay about everything I love about every aspect of davekat (and all the different stages of their sometimes-complex relationship) here’s my one specific absolute *favorite* thing: the fact that being together, being in love, being on the same page & knowing each other so well, means that for once in their lives they can both completely relax, rest, and be totally safe and comfortable in each other’s company. they both deserve a little bit of uncomplicated happiness, imo :)

Why Stranger Things?

I had read a few Stranger Things fics way back when the show first came out and knew a bit about the show, but at the time I hadn't been drawn in. (This was immediately post-season 1.) But then as the show continued, and Steve became a bigger part of it, and Robin was introduced, I got sucked in fast. I love both of them so much!

What's your favorite ship (platonic or romantic) to create for?

Stobin. They are my OTOTP, above any other pairing in any other fandom, and I'd like to think that comes through in my works. I have so many emotions about these two, it's ridiculous. Pretty much if I've got both Steve and Robin in one of my fics, that's it; they're the main focus.

What's your typical writing process like?

I have a bit of a hodgepodge of styles. It really depends on if I have a plan in mind or not. Sometimes I'll write with a super detailed outline and stick to it, but most of my works I just go with the flow and write where my creativity takes me. If you ask anyone, though, I'm a notes person. Any of my fics that involve actual planning end up with pages upon pages of notes.

What got you started on making graphics?

For the things for my site, I just wasn't finding resources out there that were what I wanted, so I started making my own. Plus I wanted my accounts to have my own creative touch on them, instead of someone else's.

What's your typical designing process like?

Vibes. 100%. I have a couple styles I like, so I pick a theme or color scheme and just build on those. Like for my seasonal stuff, I'm just like "What's Halloween-y? Pumpkins? Toss some of those in there then!" I use Canva (the free version) for making most of my graphics, but I use Krita for anything Canva can't do.

What has been your favorite project so far? Why?

Fallen Down is for sure my favorite. It's very fun to see these two familiar characters going through a very new situation like this, interacting with other characters I love. It's got a bit of mystery, some adventure, friendship, the works. I also have a very loyal fan of the story who leaves me very detailed comments that always make my day!

What has been your hardest project so far? Why?

Kinktober. I've been doing creative writing for over 15 years now, but I only recently dipped my toe into occasionally writing smut, and boy, did I struggle with it. It's like any skill, and I just didn't/don't have a lot of practice. I ended up only filling a few prompts for it and called it good.

Have you ever had a creative block? How did you get over it?

I don't have too many issues with that, in general. I feel I'm a pretty creative person. Over the years, though, I've learned a few tips to help when I come across a stumbling block. If the story isn't flowing, I go back a few paragraphs and try again. Usually, the direction I'd been taking the story in just wasn't the right one, so I don't force it.

Is there a big source of inspiration for you? Books? Art? Games?

Stranger Things isn't my only fandom, so some of my inspiration comes from what's going on in other fandoms. I read a lot of fanfiction if I'm being honest, and that shapes a lot of my ideas.

Is there an upcoming project you're particularly excited about?

My Eddie Munson Big Bang fic! I don't want to spoil anything, but it follows middle-school Eddie just after he moves in with Wayne. In the fic, their neighbor at the trailer park owns a dog. It's a very "horse girl" fic, with Eddie and this dog and their developing friendship. It's got some angst, but it works towards a lot of positive feelings and a happy ending.

- taking away with some stuff anon said the boys are absolutely HORRIFIED when they realise you graduated school last year. what do you mean you were class of 2023?

- “this is a whole ass child we’re talking to”

- i like to imagine they DID go to your graduation. you knew of the boys since your junior year of highschool. opening for them on their tour when they were in your state.

- so many photos taken. ones with you and the boys in your graduation outfit. it was such a sweet moment. your parents meeting the boys for the first time and they surprise you by going to a nice restaurant. you, your parents and the boys.

- booking the biggest table in the restaurant it’s chaos. laughter and chatter is made. phoebe demanding your parents to bring the yearbook when they drop you off for tour.

- i can imagine the boys forgetting you’re not legal, you’re only 19. the boys going to after party’s with your for music awards and freaking out. “SHIT YOU’RE A FUCKING CHILD” julien is grabbing the car keys to drag you back to the tour bus

- when you get your year book you wish the ground would swallow you up.

- the scene unfolds by the boys acting like a pack of wolves that haven’t eaten in months. all grabbing the book to try and peak into it. lucy being the tallest holds it over all of yours head having the perks of being the tallest

- phoebe turns into an ankle biter in that moment. desperate to laugh at your photos and gossip with you about the tea

- you and the boys spend the rest of the night surrounded by the small tour buss table going through all the photos.

- “that guy? he is a bitch don’t like him. used to be mean to me in class”

- the boys got personal beef with some teenagers they never even met before “it’s on sight for real”

- trips to the theme park. it’s so random but you really wanted to go so up they went one day with you like “road trip!”

- the day you win a grammy is the day they feel like they’ve achieved in life.

- at this point they feel like they raised you. i feel like you might be like 25 or something when you get the grammy “they grow up so fast sniff sniff”

- absolutely goes chaos. standing on chairs and cheering (like julian on sunday 😭)

- they’d go ankle biter mode when tabloids and news articles come for you. it is fake news and rumours yet they are prepared to defend you on their LIFE

- defending you, subtly indirecting / actually going as far as @ ting on main twitter. they don’t take no shit and will immediately be by your side!

Hi! I am an ardent fan of your writing, and I hope to be as sorted and planned as you some day in my own writing journey.

My question is: you have a keen eye when it comes to planning character personality, dynamics, and such. I've also been wading through your ask replies, and your insights into how you write people and how you make them play off of each other is so wonderful to read. If it's not too personal a q, how did you learn how to write like this? Did you go to school for writing, does it come from years of observing people, do you have reading list recs for "how to write real people and real interactions"?

Thanks! This is a really flattering question. I'll try to answer it honestly, because I wish someone had been brutally honest about this with me when I was a young writer.

I didn't go to school for writing. I started doing it when I was about nine years old. It sucked very badly. I kept writing throughout high school, and it still mostly sucked, but some of it was occasionally interesting. ("Interesting" here does not mean "good," by the way.) I took a break in college, and then came back. I've been writing ever since. Sometimes, I feel good about it. A lot of the time, I don't!

I hate giving this advice, because I remember how it feels to get it, and it's the most uninspiring, boring-ass, dog shit advice you can get, but it's also the only advice that is 100% unequivocally true: you have to write, and specifically, you have to write things that suck.

I do not mean that you should make things that suck on purpose. I mean that you have to sit down and try your absolute hardest to make something good. You have to put in the hours, the elbow grease, the blood, sweat, and tears, and then you have to read it over and accept that it just totally sucks. There is no way around this, and you should be wary of people who tell you there is. There is no trick, no rule, no book you can buy or article you can read, that will make your writing not suck. The best someone else can do is tell you what good writing looks like, and chances are, you knew that anyway — after all, you love to read. You wouldn't be trying to do this if you didn't. And anyone who says they can teach you to write so good it doesn't suck at first is either lying to you, or they have forgotten how they learned to write in the first place.

So the trick is to sit there in the miserable doldrums of Suck, write a ton, and learn to like it. Because this is the phase of your path as an artist when you find what it is you love about writing, and it cannot be the chance to make "good writing." This will be the thing that bears you through and compels you to keep going when your writing is shit, i.e., the very thing that makes you a writer in the first place. So find that, and you've got a good start.

Some people know this, but assume that perseverance as a writer is about trying to get to the point where you don't suck anymore. This is not true, and it is an actively dangerous lie to tell young writers. You are not aiming to feel like your writing doesn't suck. You are aiming to write. You are aiming to have written. Everything else is dust and rust. And of course, you'll find things you like about your pieces, you'll find things you're proud of, you'll learn to love the things you've made. But that little itch of self-criticism, in the back of your brain — the one that cringes when you read a clunky line, or thinks of a better character beat right after it's far too late to change — that's never going away. That's the Writer part of you. Read Kafka, read Dickens, read Tolstoy, you will find diary entries where they lament how absolutely fucking atrocious their writing was, and how angry they are that they can't do better. A good writer hates their sentences because they can always imagine better ones. And the ability to imagine a better sentence is what's going to make you pick up the pen again tomorrow. And the day after that. And the day after that.

Which is what I mean, and probably what all those other annoying, preachy advice-givers mean, when we say: a good writer is just someone who writes every day. It's that easy, and that hard.

I just want thoughts on the type of issues that would arise from them being forced to interact (and ofc Sasuke being unable to kill them) getting on Sasuke's nerves and watch him lose hairs is a hobby/j

For more info, think they're the naturally elusive but low attack power type since their forte lies in how well they can deceive to get what they need and then dip!

➦ Where did they meet?

Starting with the most important thing - how does Sasuke even get to interact with someone who is well-known for lying and tricking people? In my head, the possible scenarios are two:

They meet during their time with Orochimaru and this person eventually joins Team Taka; or

They are paired by Konoha who send the trickster to 'keep an eye' on Sasuke during his travels right after the war.

With the first one, while Sasuke would not be thrilled by the idea of having such a person in the team, he recognises their abilities and he is ready to put aside his own personal feelings in the name of locating Itachi.

If we go with the second option, it doesn't really matter what he says or do - the order comes directly from Kakashi, so in the end he reluctantly accepts it.

➦ Initial thoughts and feelings

If I had to describe it with two words: mutual dislike.

For Sasuke, the reasons are obvious - he hate liars and finds no honour in using deceit in order to win battles. He also does not respect the fact that they rely so much on using cheap tricks, rather getting their ass up and train/work hard in order to get better.

For the trickster, Sasuke is no different than many other ninjas out there - shallow, too consumed with the idea of battles and war and thinking he is better than everyone else. If they are paired together after the war, an additional black point in their eyes would be the fact Sasuke was literally a terrorist just a few years ago and they would not bother respect someone like that.

However, I think both would recognise each other's strengths and would, surprisingly for them, work pretty well in a team.

➦ Relationship Dynamics

Their relationship would definitely go through at least three different stages:

The first few months are going to be the hardest (at least for Sasuke). I think the trickster would push his boundaries ALL THE TIME and poke fun at his stoic/gloomy nature. They would do that to see how far they can go before the Uchiha snaps, and to be honest, it would be a while. I think Sasuke can be pretty patient when he wants to be and he knows that in a real battle, the other person would not stand a chance against him. But again, he understands that he needs their presence, so I don't think he will act too harshly.

The next few months and maybe up to a year/year and a half would be the bonding time and it would happen during battles. While Sasuke thrives off plans and strategies, I think the tricker's unpredictability may actually compliment his fighting style pretty well. Sure, heated arguments would ALWAYS follow battles like this, but with time each one would compromise their style a bit and their arguments would turn into snappy comments or eye rolls.

After this, I think they would probably reach the peak of their relationship. Would they remain friends? Probably not. But they would respect each other as ninjas and would continue to occasionally team up with each other. The trickster would learn a bit more about battle strategies and preparation from Sasuke, while he will learn the importance of being able to improvise and be spontaneous sometimes.

c!Dnf for dummies: Rambling about cDnf because none of you understand them like I do. Part 1: The basics + Dream's Pov

Read this if you hate dnf or if you like dnf because either way you're probably wrong about them. This is especially for people who dislike cDnf but never shut up about cDream or people mentioning cDnf/cDteam's in fics because you NEED IT!!!

Ughhhhh ok. I have tried to write about Dnf in depth so many times but its impossible because you need sooo much context to even begin to understand their dynamic. Dream and George are two of the most complex characters and are near impossible for most to understand because neither of their ccs know how to press the start stream button.

But that doesn't matter because here at cDnf university I am dedicated to the grind so I can talk about these bitches all day. Ok first order of business, FUCK cDrunz, FUCK cRivals, FUCK cAwesamdream and most importantly FUCK cDiscduo ok? Ok. If you're reading this and you don't already like cDnf then chances are you like one or more of those dynamics. GET THEM OUT OF YOUR HEAD. Ok?? OK!!

People are def only reading this because Dream mention. We love cDream yayy. Exactly. Yayyy. But to understand cDnf you need to consider and understand Dream as a stand alone character outside of any other dynamic. Ok? Ok!!! Now we can start.

What is c!Dnf?

Dnf is, of course, the relationship between Dream and George. Their relationship is undeniably romantic despite this never explicitly being stated. They engage in both romantic and "sexual" activities throughout the many vods and are seen as a couple by multiple of the other characters.

To make their relationship easier for people who don't know much about George to understand, imagine shipping Dream with himself. George, like Dream, is a character who prioritise power and control above all else. They both believe that the only way to achieve peace is by forcing everyone to return to the original ways of the server. Both characters struggle to understand the needs and wants of others when it doesn't benefit them. And they both use manipulation in order to achieve their goals.

Dream and George are both extremely intelligent characters who are able to work together without planning anything. Because they usually think so similarly, they tend to disregard each others feelings or thoughts when they contradict. They believe they have full control over each other, even though they don't. This is most obvious during the dethronement conflict.

Dnf's care for each other is undeniable. While Dream hides his feelings from the server pretty well following dethronement, George doesn't. Post-prison Dnf is the hardest era of their relationship to understand due to the lack of interactions between the characters. That being said, this doesn't mean they ever lose care for one another. The finale confirms this.

People often over-simplify the relationship between these characters in fics, art, and even analysis. Typically George will be seen as just another one of Dreams victims. And while George is a victim of Dream's behavior, she is far from being an innocent one. In fact, due to how she views Dream, it's clear that she doesn't see herself as a victim of him at all. Other times, Dream will be the sole victim. This is rarer, but not uncommon. Many people potray George as someone who dislikes Dream for his actions or his beliefs. As I stated before, their beliefs are shared between them so it’s once again an incorrect potrayal of their dynamic.

To truly portray Dnf correctly, pitting them against each other or denying their affection for each other is never an option. Despite their relationship being toxic it is never loveless. If you ever write them in a way that permanently severs their friendship then you'll never be able to write them accurately. That being said, there is a way to have conflicts between the characters since they do clash a few times.

The foundation of c!Dnf.

In the early days of the smp, George and Dream lived peacefully. Although there were conflicts between the original members, they were almost never between the two of them. The only time Dream and George were truly at odds was during George's "Tyranny" era. During this short era, George made very op armor and weapons and used them to "terrorize" the other members. No one could fight back against her because she was stronger than everyone else. So Dream killed her and confiscated her things. Eventually she got them back and there was no issues between the two of them.

This event is, in my opinion, one of the key moments of Dnf's dynamics. It's the first event where Dream is willing to go against George. And it's in a situation where she has power over him. This is very important to note because it is a pattern in their relationship.

Two more early smp events that I believe really set up Dnf's dynamic are Tommy's first exile and the burning of Ponk's lemon tree.

Tommy's first exile happens shortly after he joins the server. Tommy kills George and steals her things before being killed by Dream. After this, they both become aggressive. They take him to the courthouse for a trial. When he escapes, he kills George a few more times before once again being killed by Dream. Afterwards Dream chooses to exile and then ban him from the server.

Throughout this conflict, both characters move as a unit. They aren't talking in a vc (confirmed by Dream) so their only communication is through mc chat. Something a lot of people miss, are the parallels between this exile and Tommy's second exile. In both situations, there's an issue between Tommy and George and Dream steps in. Once Dream steps in, he seems to take control of the situation but George is still in the background pulling strings. In this situation, George is actually the first one threaten Tommy with a ban. Dream simply repeats the threat and follows through with it.

This is also an example of Dream overreacting whenever George is attacked. This is one of the bigger examples, but Dream is known to become aggressive and attack on George's behalf. It's one of the reasons characters hesitate before attacking George later. It's also why no one comments on Dream's overreaction with Tommy's second exile. To them it makes sense because George was already established as someone important to Dream. And I'll get more into that later.

The burning of Ponk's Lemon Tree is an early case of George being granted special privileges. After Ponk griefed George's base, her chat suggested that she burn down Ponk's lemon tree. When George asks Dream if she should, he tells her that she can. So she burns down the lemon tree close to the Community House. After this, someone in the chat mentions the bigger tree. Dream takes note of this message and tells George that she should watch Ponk's vod and find the tree. Once George finds it, he kills all his chickens while Dream laughs. Once Ponk logs on, Dream tells George to quickly set fire to the tree in order to do more damage.

As mentioned before, the court house does exist and is in use by this point in the smp. Despite that, Dream chooses to allow George to take matters into her own hands. He also encourages George to find Ponk's bigger lemon tree despite her being satisfied with burning down the smaller one. It's not normal for Dream's character, even at this point in the lore, to start bigger conflicts unnecessarily. This is another example of him making an exception for George. Dream backing George's action also seems to be the reason Ponk doesn't retaliate the way they do when Sapnap burns down their tree later.

While all of these instances are tiny on their own, they are important to understanding the greater dynamic between the two characters. Not only does it create a pattern of Dream treating George differently from the others, it also shows why George perceives him as a protector later on. The early days of their relationship are also important since they make it clear that these are the times they look back on fondly. The times they want the server to revert back to. It isn't just because it was "simple" or "peaceful" but because nothing disrupted the status quo.

It's also important to understand why a slight against George was considered a slight against Dream for so long. You can't understand a lot of the relationship and conflicts between characters without understanding this first.

How does c!Dream view c!George?

When I talked about the foundations of cDnf, I talked about how early conflicts established simple aspects of how their characters interact. I also mentioned how these early conflicts shaped the way they're viewed by the rest of the server. Now I'm going to dive more into how they see each other.

While deciphering this from the vods is incredibly difficult, once all of the pieces are together it's actually really easy to understand. Due to the nature of their characters, they are forced to see people through a lense of "Ok, how does this person benefit me?" Because they were the first ever characters on the sever, they could only benefit each other through teamwork. They had to work together in order to survive without any weapons or armor. Because of this, they saw each other as equals.

There's a noticeable shift in how they view each other once the smp becomes established, though. George is a weaker fighter than Dream and she tends to mess around more often. This puts her in more conflicts. Naturally, Dream aids her in these conflicts since they've established themselves as allies. However, this also changes George's position from an equal to someone beneath Dream. She, possibly without knowing, puts herself in a position where she must rely on Dream's strength and resources for survival.

The power George (and Sapnap in some instances) give Dream is the power that he later latches onto. He doesn't put himself in a leader role, he's pushed into it. George uses Dream to end conflicts by running to him whenever she finds herself in trouble. This is why Dream was seen as the leader by other characters later. This is why the server became the DreamSmp and the "team" part fell back. This is why he believes he must insert himself in ever minor problem on the server.

When George falls behind Dream, it doesn't go unnoticed by him. The way Dream talks to and about George during the L'manberg war shows a small shift in how he views her. George is inactive on the server in the time leading up to the war. While Dream and Sapnap are building cobble walls around L'manberg, Dream mentions that George was approached by Tommy and Wilbur. He claims that they tried to get her on their side, but he isn't worried because George is on his side. What's interesting about this is, when George joins, Dream actually asks if she's on his side. She then says that she doesn't actually know what's happening. Dream gives her the basics and George laughs when he lists the members of the country. Dream explains that she's laughing because she's wondering why she'd ever team with them.

This interaction is significant in understanding how Dream views George because it establishes something that will later become a pattern. Dream making a decision on George's behalf without consulting her about it. This was the first sign that Dream no longer saw George as an equal, but as a follower. He's decided that their goals align without actually confirming that with her.

Following this, another interesting thing happens. The Lion King plagiarism.

What stands out about this event, is actually Sapnap and not Dnf. As established before, George barely understands what's going on. Because of that, she hasn't assisted him at all with the preparations for the war. Sapnap on the other hand, has been assisting Dream since the very start of the conflict. So why then, did Dream choose to promise the land to George? Well, it's established in Dream's conversation with Punz later in the SMP, that he defines loyalty as having not ever gone against him. Since Sapnap went against Dream during the Disc War, he's no longer fit to take over the server in an event where he's no longer around. But, since Dream sees George as someone who shares his ideals, she is fit to take over if something happens to him. We'll come back to that later.

Throughout the stream where both these events take place, Dream is still treating George primarily as an equal despite chipping away at her autonomy. He even trusts her to guard him when he enters L'manburg to place signs. Granted he also knows that Eret isn't a threat. There's a large shift in his treatment towards her during the actual war, though.

The now deleted and near impossible to find behind the scenes footage of the L'manburg war from Punz's pov shows a harsh change in Dream's treatment of George. George is, obviously, the least prepared for the war which results in both Dream and Punz handing her anything she may need. At a point, Dream asks George to follow him because he thinks she's the most likely to die. George says she isn't going to die and Dream replies with "hopefully" before showing her a chest that contained extra weapons and armor.

There's another event from the second part of this video that shows clips of the actual war. When Wilbur logs on, Sapnap says he could one shot him. George repeatedly tells him to do it, while Dream tells him not to. George then says that she's going to start shooting and Dream once again tells her not to. When Sapnap starts shooting again, he seems to think that George is the one shooting. He says "What part of follow my lead, George, do you not understand?" and George quickly snaps back with "You can't control me." This is followed by silence then Dream says that George is the "only optional member of this team"

These two events establish something new about how Dream views George. The first being that he sees her as weak. At least in comparison to himself, Punz, and Sapnap. This isn't a rare opinion and is shared between most of the server. It's just worth pointing out because it lines up with another point of mine. Dream tells George that she is the only optional member of the team. The statement could be put off as just a joke, but I think it's more than that. The way Dream planned out the war made it near impossible for them to lose. He'd gotten all of their plans from Eret and already predicted exactly how it would end. Truthfully, he didn't need George to win the war. Punz and Sapnap are stronger than her and got wayy more kills. George's presence, truthfully, added nothing to the team or Dream's plan.

That being said, George's presence did matter to Dream. George being on his side mattered to Dream. And that's a big difference between Dnf and every other friendly dynamic Dream has on the server. Punz? Sapnap? Technoblade? They matter to Dream largely because of what they can do for him. All of them are strong fighters who constantly have resources that Dream can borrow. Being friends with them doesn't only provide Dream companionship, but also ensures that he is always on the winning side.

So, what value does being allies with George actually provide Dream? Well, power itself. As I said before, what originally gave Dream power was George insisting on running to him whenever a conflicts arose. George is, and always has been, the only character who is dependent on Dream having control. Dream sees George as someone who is weak. A follower who needs his charity to even survive on the server. The absolute control Dream has over George makes her predictable, easy to understand, and comfortable to be around. That's what makes her special to him. That's why having her on his side matters.

Now, this is all early smp Dnf and while this all carries into their later interactions, the proof for that comes from a much more complex part of the lore. The King George - Dethronement era of c!Dnf is where a lot of debate about them comes from. This is where people start to argue that George didn't matter to Dream as much as he pretended she did. The truth is, you can only begin to understand what happened here if you understand how these two characters perceive each other. So! I will be talking about this arc specifically in part 2 where I'll also be talking about George's pov.

For now, I'll skip to what happens after these events and talk about Dream's view of George prior to and during prison arc.

George and Dream hang out a few times in the period between exile and the disc finale. This shows that, despite what people say, they did not stop interacting because of the dethronement fallout. While nothing outside of their normal banter happens (aside from Dream being a bit more violent), it is important to note that the two of them were still friends.

We don't get a lot from Dream during the prison arc, but we do know that he wants to see George. He requests her presence on 2 occasions, once during Bad's visit and again during Sapnap's. It's also implied that George is who Dream's thinking of when Tommy asks him who he misses the most, though he could've been thinking of anyone. This at the very least shows that she's in his mind. While it could be argued that he only wanted to see George in order to get her to help him escape, this is unlikely. As we already established, Dream doesn't really see George as capable.

The only other point where Dream outright mentions George is after his escape from the prison. This is, of course, during his conversation with Sapnap. There isn't much to gather on his feelings towards George from this conversation. However, I do think it's important to note that he doesn't seem at all surprised by the idea that George misses him. His small pause after Sapnap says that George never talks about him implies that he's much more surprised about that. Him refusing to acknowledge Sapnap's words and instead changing the subject back to his armor suggests that maybe Sapnap's words got to him a bit.

I'd also like to point out that that part of the conversation isn't the only time George is brought up. Sapnap uses her name twice to try and get a reaction out of Dream. This goes back to my other point about how the other characters acknowledge George's importance to him. Dream refusing to talk about George during and after the prison arc may be due to his fear of people he cares about getting hurt. George is Dream's biggest and most vulnerable attachment, so making it too obvious that he still cares is dangerous for both of them.

That being said, I'd like to move on to the finale. The finale gave us a lottt to chew on when it comes to Dnf, all things considered. One of those things being a sign with George's name being one of the few fully legible signs in Dream and Punz's little hideout. There's a lot of interpretation for this sign, but the easiest explanation is that the two of them were planning to use George to destroy Kinoko. Not only does this line up with George's dream, but it would match the other sign that says "Purpled, Quackity, Las Nevadas" (iirc I literally can't find the pic </3) The other name on the sign with George's seemed to be Sapnap's, so it would line up since Dream threatened Sapnap. That being said, it could also be because Dream and Punz planned for George to be one of the first people they approach with the offer to share the revival book's knowledge. This also makes sense because Punz is one of the few characters who knows that George still cares about Dream.

Either option makes it clear that Dream still wants George on his team and hasn't actually stopped thinking about her. He most likely still considers her an ally since, unlike him and Sapnap, they haven't had a true falling out.

Now onto my last and final point: Tommy's limbo during the finale. Limbos change based on how you die, and Tommy dies after claiming that Dream was the same (still evil and craving power) prior to getting the revival book. Tommy then claims that death is something substantial before Dream kills him to prove otherwise. I feel like, too many people interpret this moment incorrectly. And this is because to understand this moment, you have to understand Dnf.

Dream seemingly kills Tommy, again, to prove him wrong. But I argue that Tommy saying that death matters isn't why Dream chooses to attack. That isn't the point of the conversation they're having. They're arguing over whether what Dream's doing with the revival book has a purpose. Whether his quest for power matters at all. Dream is arguing that what he did ensures that everyone can live and be happy forever. While Tommy is arguing that in his quest for power he denied himself the ability to ever be happy. He tells Dream that if he would've focused on the present instead of power than they could've even be friends. That's when Dream claims that Tommy ruined the server and made that impossible. Dream blames his need for power on a need to control Tommy (and people like him) and stop them from ruining the server. That's when Tommy claims that Dream was always the same, that he spent his entire life chasing power. And When Tommy says that, Dream tries to interject but Tommy keeps talking and tries to make his point about death being serious. That's when Dream gets aggressive. That's why Dream kills him.

And why does that matter to Dnf? Easy. Tommy dies, because Dream was annoyed at the fact that Tommy truly believed that he was always evil or chasing power. The vod chosen to prove Tommy wrong isn't one that features Sapnap, or Sam, or Ponk, or Alyssa, or any of the other og members. It would've been sooo easy for the vod to be a community house building stream or even just DTeam fucking around. Those vods would've been easy to understand for both Tommy and the audience. Instead we see the first ever Dsmp stream. A stream that only features Dream and George. This is important because, as I mentioned, there weren't any conflicts between the two of them in the beginning. Dream wasn't chasing power because there was no power to chase, and no one to have control over.

The rest of the finale really drives home George (and Sapnap's) importance to Dream even after everything. Dream all but completely confirms that everything he's done and planned to do was worth it because it meant in the end he'd live forever with his friends. Everything would be simple the way it was in the early days. Before Tommy and his friends ruined it all. I think this alone makes cDnf a core dynamic to Dream's character and understanding his actions in retrospect.

ANYWAY I've talked for long enough so I'm just going to leave this here. This took me HOURS (days?) to write and I wanted to say more but... Had a realization regarding the Aware AU. The question of if Sabrina & Adrien are friends was asked and I think the answer is an emphatic yes.

Cos timeline wise, Emilie disappeared when the previous school year was still on. This was followed by the grief and then the revelation "Our parents don't care about us" crisis's, leading out the school year & a two month break.

Sabrina may not have met Adrien during the school period, but during the break. When Adrien's actively agitating to get out, when Chloe is aggressively trying to both reinvent herself and generally distance herself from her parents. That's when she'd meet him and given how easily Adrien makes friends its easy on his end.

For Sabrina it'd also be a neat experience cos if we go by season 1 she was both very game for anything and also really liked the idea of her & Chloe being thick as thieves. Chloe tended to stamp the breaks on that and remind her who was leading, IE the "We're awesome- sorry you're awesome" thing.

Here though?

That's less of a thing.

Not to say its not present, if anything overcoming her dynamic with Sabrina would likely be one of the hardest things to do. But she also pointedly cares about their relationship and Sabrina idolizes her so there's no shortage of second chances.

Plus she'd be actively trying to cut out some of her more overtly unfair behaviors by virtue of them being mimicry as opposed to her trauma bleeding through. So while she might need practice, some things do get intentionally ignored or rejected to make a point. "No Sabrina's not my assistant she's my friend and probably way smarter than you, Felix."

Adrien's presence would also help in this regard. He'd not see the dynamic itself as inherently terrible. Its Andrey & Audrey, Emilie & Gabriel, even himself & Chloe to an extent. A more gentle accommodating (Weaker) personality being led by a more aggressive, bold (Strong) personality.

His main contributions would be just highlighting when she's acting too much like her parents, especially Audrey & otherwise serving as a buffer for when she's too prickly to be anything but hostile. With the former call out leading Chloe to usually reverse course change thrusters and circle back and the latter giving plenty of bonding time.

Plus, Sabrina's respect for authority is pretty much only respect for Chloe's authority. So she'd be very happy to help in any scheming and generally be down for whatever they are up to in easy defiance of Gabriel or Andre.

So yeah I think they'd definitely be friends by the time school rolls around.

How cognizant she'd be to their situation or what brought the changes on... I think she'd have picked up enough clues that she knows their parents suck & they realized their parents suck & are now essentially in a constant state of low grade rebellion.

The specifics, extent or ways this manifest in issues would be harder to parse given her general reverence/dedication to people she likes/admires. But I imagine she'd have a pretty decent grasp of Adrien's situation mechanically, and knows/deduces far more of Chloe's than she realizes.

Honestly I love Adrien and Sabrina friendships and I really need to write more of that.

Also while Sabrina isn't in the 'rich' club she can be put in the 'oh I realized my dad sucks' club.

Should I read the 100 Girlfriend Mamga? I've heard it's trashy, and as a rule I normally shy away from Harem stuff, but every panel I've seen from it is so goddamn funny...

it is profoundly trash. It is the Highest eschalon of trash. It’s the Mona Lisa of hot garbage. If you are the sort of person who thinks “I have heard this thing is kinda trashy” and marks that as a point of concern, 100 GF is not for you. 100 GF is for the people who hears “kinda trashy” and starts putting on their finest dumpster diving suit. And boy is it worth it.

it is a masterpiece of writing, because balancing its unreasonably massive cast is literally one of the single most impossible endeavors a mangaka could undertake, and it actually manages to pull it off. Each character is well-developed, with their own dynamics, not just with Rentaro, but with their other girlfriends, each of them bouncing off each other in a way that feels really natural and charming. It’s also a comedic fucking genius. I think “DJ No Smoking Before 20” is the second hardest any manga has ever made me laugh. (second only to Witch Watch’s death game chapter)

As a romcom/harem, it actually manages to pull off the massive dating pool because Rentarou is an impossibly perfect boyfriend. Most harem manga suck ass because it’s women throwing themselves at a guy who doesn’t want to date them. but 100 GF is magic because Rentaro fucking loves every one of his girlfriends. And there is never a single doubt, even once, if the girls should be dating him. He is the best boyfriend in the entire universe, and he loves all of them so very much.

It also has a teenage boy dating one of his girlfriends’ mother, another one of his girlfriends’ grandma, his own cousin, and two of his teachers. You will be watching one girl regularly get beat with a baseball bat for her own sexual pleasure.

i cannot recommend this manga without 5.6 million asterisks. Your trash tolerance must be at the level where you can stomach the average isekai without wanting to gauge your eyes out. You will have at least one GF whose bit goes too far for your comfort. This is the nature of the beast.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

hmmm. how do i put this. it's like... the way karl kesel treated him as a self-insert for his own teenage fantasy self or whatever sometimes. obviously this comes out in the way he gets preyed on by adult women and this is played off as cool and chill, but it also comes out in the way a) kesel writes his flirting. sometimes it's very endearing and cringefail, and other times he's kissing women without consent, and that's played off as chill and fine because kesel thinks it should be and the women in question almost always are fine with that, but also b) he writes off concerns about indigenous hawaiians in kon's narrative (like silver sword or ...man i'm forgetting that kid who gets jealous of him and has powers about it for a minute, but that narrative). and like. yeah. white man in the 90s wrote this for SURE. i don't think it's like, written in the absolute poorest taste imaginable, because there's a lot of ways where it seems almost like they were trying to be respectful of native hawaiian culture, but then there's shit that's so far off the mark it's like. dude. and it's very evident that it just reflects karl kesel's own views much more than any character in-narrative.

LORD. tim/ber/kon is the one that makes me roll my eyes hardest, alongside the rarer but no less irksome ber/kon. it's like... this is 100% not about kon as a character. this is about tim. ber/kon is almost funny in that it's entirely about tim but with tim himself cut out of the picture. but tim/ber/kon is just "let's take tim's most popular two fanon love interests and just shove all of them together!" and i have yet to see Anything even remotely try to convince me why kon and bernard should give a shit about each other. like, MAYBE you could sell it as a loooong slow burn, but i just. i don't see it man. putting the rest under a cut bc i AM gonna ramble about why i dislike it, so if you like tim/ber/kon or tim/ber and don't wanna see that, keep scrolling here👍!!

this is also partly bc i just... man i really wanted to like bernard and tim/ber but there's nothing there. i knew i didn't like rebirth tim characterization going in when i read tdr but i was hoping i'd at least find some crumbs. it's all just ... like there's no substance to it. there's no conflict, no character flaws, no "why do they even like each other???", no particular way they seem to help each other grow. it's just tropey "told, not shown" fluff where megfitz insists they are SO in love and perfect for each other, over and over, without backing that up really at all, and it just holds absolutely no appeal to me. and when it's just tim/ber i'm like yeah ok sure it's not my thing but whatever. but when people start trying to shove kon into there i'm like NO!!!!!! sdjkfhkd like im just SO unconvinced and it feels like such a great steaming heap of Nothing.

the main reason that is is that to me a relationship needs to have an arc. it can't just be stagnant. if there's no conflict, if there's no room for growth, if there's no development, it falls apart in my eyes. it doesn't feel like a real story about actual people. and as far as the tim/ber dynamic established in tdr, there's just. nothing. even the fact that bernard apparently somehow knows that tim is robin, which should be a HUGE source of conflict, is completely glossed over. it never comes up in any way.

like, we know that tim wants to tell people, but holds back out of a sense of duty. in robin '93, he agonizes about this with steph. but when bruce tells her his identity without his consent - which steph tells him bruce did immediately - he flips the fuck out!!!! he panics and runs away and he's furious with them both!!! so you'd ostensibly think that bernard knowing, and then not telling him he knows, would be sowing the seeds for an explosive conflict later down the line. especially because bernard now knows that tim is just. lying to him. all the time. shamelessly and blatantly lying through his teeth. and sure, it's for a good cause. right? but you'd think that in a relationship that's only just been established, just for a few months, that would also be offputting!! you'd think he'd start getting more and more unhappy that tim is just constantly lying to him and he knows it!! because he knows it about the robin secret, but what else might tim be lying to him about??? he knows now that tim has no qualms just lying to his face all the goddamn time, and he's... FINE with that???? there's this giant secret they're both dancing around and it's set up that there's just. N O T H I N G done with that. it drives me up the wall. i found this absolutely infuriating to read. both of them just being so one-dimensionally "oh we're in looooove so nothing else matters" that it erodes not only tim's specific characterization but bernard's ability to react like . idk. a human being? it just feels like running into dead end after dead end.

so yeah adding kon into that mix makes me want to tear my hair out bc it just feels SO surface-level. it's like... how much of him are you gonna shave off to fit him into this soulless, conflictless mold? it's like how i get annoyed when tim/kon fics ignore kon being genuinely really upset tim didn't share his identity with the team in yj98, but worse. because identity shit REALLY matters to kon. kon has never dated anyone who didn't know he was superboy. all of his civilian friends in sb11 know he's superboy. like, he does Not get close to people if he can't share that. it would be!!! a source!!! of conflict!!! but i've never seen Any ship content for tim/ber/kon that isn't just either completely declawed fluff that's just oh hehe tim has two boyfriends, or "kon angsting over tim dating someone else uwu" bullshit, which occasionally leads into completely declawed "tim has two boyfriends" fluff. it just does such a disservice to every character involved imo.

The tiktok filming setup as a way to bring reader/Valentine into the world of Joost and his friends is such a a good idea. Something so believable and so very them. Like, it could really happen. I’m immediately immersed. You are incorporating a lot of little irl lore details that do a really good job of not letting me forget that I’m reading a joost fic. The way you include and build upon the stitch plushie is such a good moment of this. 

The way you explain joost’s immediate fascination with reader the instant he sees the tiktok is extremely satisfying. When self inserting here I felt so wanted 🥰 (I know he is being horny not sweet at this point but what can I say). I really enjoyed how joost is displaying a hint of degradation kink lol. Real femdom enjoyer hours. Can’t wait to see if it’s their whole dynamic or just one aspect of it. Also let me just directly say that this jack-off scene was hot as fuck. Superior descriptions. Wowowowow.

i love in fics when people reference something highly specific irl, like joosts clothing or lyrics or places he’s been! it’s always super immersive, i try and add in as much as i can!

trust me these two will be on some freaky bob ™️ type shit in the bedroom ;P joost jerking off is like…he’s literally such a man…he saw one beautiful girl online and had to go take care of himself??? boy please be serious!! 😭

joost and v are the literal definition of “it gets worse before it gets better” at multiple points in their relationship. no spoilers but their love runs so deep and so heavy, even when they’re so upset with each other, i think they get a little overwhelmed. but that’s for me to show you eventually…

i’ll be honest, i’ve never finished a chaptered fic in my entire life but i’m trying the hardest i’ve ever tried to make this one the one! i appreciate every ounce of support i’ve gotten thus far and i’m really working hard on trying to write faster and more consistently for you all <333

2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?

alive shannon with 20k words so far

3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?

alive shannon, since it's kinda a canon rewrite and I still haven't decided to which point it's gonna go, we'll see when it'll feel right to end it haha

4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?

once again, alive shannon haha - it's just so fun to explore what all those dynamics could've been, and giving Eddie and Shannon some closure, and I love exploring Shannon's character, too, speculating on her thoughts and motivations, and diving into everyone's heads, and I'm so excited to see it all develop!!

5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?

I think it's either alive shannon or the cheating fic alive shannon bc I've never written s2/s3 buddie and I wanna get their characters semi-right, and I don't remember a lot of details so I need to get on with my rewatch lol - and also writing Shannon's and Eddie's feelings on their relationship and how it all ended is not easy haha and the cheating fic bc it's so not my thing but a song inspired it and it got stuck in my head and it's happening haha and I hope I'll make it make sense haha

6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?

tbh all of them - some more, some less, but there are moments, especially lately, when veeeery often I'm just like: everything I write sucks wtf

7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?

@giddyupbuck agreed to beta the alive shannon fic, and I spam them with snippets if I'm in doubt and it's sooo helpful fr ily <3 and I'll need alive shannon beta-read bc it's gonna be so long, and I keep changing my mind about things bc of how many ideas I have, so I just need someone else to look at it and tell me if everything makes sense haha - and Ro's helped me so much with some previous fics so they have my full trust with my baby that is the alive shannon fic haha

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?

all of them at some point lol - a few of these are actually on hold bc of that - I will get back to them tho!

9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?

as of now there's no ocs in any of these, but we'll see haha

10. Which WIP is the sexiest?

cheating fic and maaaaybe coffee buddie (if I'll ever get back to this one) - no actual smut in my wips yet atm

11. Which WIP is the angstiest?

buddie death cast fic - if you've read 'they both die at the end' you know why lol this is not gonna have a happy ending

12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?

so far I'm loving everyone in alive shannon so I guess let's go with that haha

oh I am so bad this - but maybe let's say buddie coffee shop au bc i think it's the only one where I put even a little bit of focus on the setting lmao

14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?

alive shannon, been thinking about it and making notes for months before I started writing, and I don't think i've ever been this invested in a fic

15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?

alive shannon - - like I said, it's my most precious baby, and I'm so excited to not only write it but read it, and I hope it's gonna be as good as it is in my head, and I hope I'll make the story make sense with Shannon there, but also keeping some important buddie moments from canon hah

16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?

not sure if i've ever dreamt about a wip, but i do get new ideas in my sleep sometimes lol

17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?

alive shannon will have switching povs which i rarely do, so it's gonna be a challenge to write three distinct voices - and diving into Shannon's head and feelings and motivations will also definitely be hard

18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?

I think sick eddie - he's so ridiculously stubborn and difficult istg haha or buddie coffee shop with how fucking awkward buck's being

19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?

yep, once again, alive shannon - it's as much a buddie fic as it is a shannon fic, so it's not exactly outside pov, bc I'm just excited to focus on her equally as much, on how she's settling into their lives, becoming a better mom, being involved in Chris' life - she's gonna have as much focus as buddie sns it's not easy, bc it's alternating povs and once I get stuck in Eddie's head it's hard to leave, but so far it's been fun

20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs

uhhh, I think I share like everything lol okay, so maybe: alive shannon will definitely go at least up until s4 and will include Eddie dating Ana 👀 purely bc I want a buddie-shipping Shannon to be like wtf eddie??? also, there will be more than one mcd in the death cast fic and coffee buddie was loosely inspired by a small thing from luke cage lol
