The idea of Roger being one of the first to know of Garp's marriage and/or Urpi just makes so much sense to me.

Like let’s imagine a bog standard fight between Roger and Garp. Massive amounts of destruction, they’re both having the time of their lives until Roger notices a sparkle near Garp's collar. That sparkle turns out to be a necklace, which Roger is a little hurt by considering he has tried on numerous occasions to gift Garp some rather beautiful (stolen) jewelry to no avail. His eyes almost bugged out of his skull when he saw the ring looped through the chain.

In all honesty, the King of the Pirates was a little offended…why wasn’t he invited to the wedding?! He’s well known for being an excellent party guest! Also how has he never met the bride? They were definitely close enough for that, they’ve almost killed each other over a dozen times now after all!

Roger makes it his mission after that day to find this mysterious woman of mystery that has swept Garp off his feet so easily. He becomes very preoccupied with his quest very quickly. Every chance he got he’d be interrogated Marines (who were all either too low level to know or excellent liars). His original theory is that the spouse must be another Marine which led to him asking way too many blue and white wearing gals if they were married which led to some real nonsensical rumours circulating.

Even his crew wasn’t helping! They kept saying he seems “obsessed” and he’s got “Garp tunnel vision again” and that “don’t you think if a legendary marine like Garp got married people would know and isn’t it a sign that most everyone you’ve asked doesn’t?”

It all culminated in Rayleigh orchestrated a trip to a resort island to take his captain's mind off his spousal search. Roger grumbled as he walked to the shaking bartender when he felt a different pair of eyes on him. Odd, he was so sure the beach had cleared out when they set anchor. A chill ran down his spine at the unwavering gaze at the back of his head. He turned and saw a lone woman sitting in striped folding chair, peering just above with chunky sunglasses before turning back to the book in her lap.

And he was planning on letting that interaction go, really he was! If he didn’t happen to spy a familiar glittering chain around her collar that is.

Oh, Roger is quite huffy with Garp for a while.

Get engaged and married and don’t even bother to tell him… downright rude! He simply must meet this person who has claimed his beloved seagull’s heart right out from under his nose!

But oh, when he does… he understands why Garp fell so hard so fast. And why she liked her privacy.

Soon enough, Garp gets a snail call from a bemused Urpi asking why on earth his sworn rival is bemoaning his woes to her like he’s gone and broken his poor old heart. Has there been a falling out she wasn’t aware of? Has there been a miscommunication?

There hasn’t been a miscommunication, right, Garp?
