It has been exactly 4 months since you met Rafe Cameron, the kook king you never knew you would fall so deeply for. The first time you met him, you were nothing but a blur in his world. A passing figure and a random pogue that was at his party. But Rafe, you saw something in him the moment you met his sparkling blue eyes. You couldn’t exactly tell what it was. Maybe it’s the fact that he looks so handsome even under bad lights, or the way you could listen to him forever every time he speaks. At that moment, you were ready to risk it all.
You made your move that night. The way you charmed him may have made him realize you both were something more than strangers passing through each other’s lives and ever since then, you were both inseparable. Although he said “No attachment,” the first time you both hooked up, you still went along with it, hoping it could be real one day.
Sometimes when you’re hanging out with your friends outside, you would hear some rumors saying you’re just a girl that Rafe bangs on his couch. The pogues call you a loser for still hanging around him but you ignore them and the rumors because most of the time he treats you as if you were someone he couldn’t lose. Just two weeks after knowing each other, he invites you to dinner with his whole family. The way he fucks you in the bathroom while his parents are still at the table, the way he brings you to the country club and shows you off, the way he’s eating you out in the passenger seat, and mostly the way he talks to you, so gently and sweet that got you thinking maybe this isn’t just some dumb love.
You’re at the pub where you agreed to meet Rafe. The sky on the way there was already turning a heavy blue slate, signaling that rain was on the way. You enter the pub and recognize Rafe’s back immediately standing on the other end accompanied by Topper and his foul girlfriend Ruthie. As you are about to approach them, you hear his voice, “She’s not my girlfriend okay, it’s just…casual. No strings attached.”
You freeze. The words land like ice in your chest, sharp and cold. If that isn’t enough you then hear Ruthie say, “You sure about that Rafe? How do your parents feel that you’re living with a pogue,” she smirks, her eyes gleaming with sarcasm.
“I’m not fucking living with a pogue okay,” he says annoyingly.
You have to steady yourself. You could feel your stomach churn as you’re processing what you’re hearing. You can’t believe it. You both never had a “talk” about being exclusive, but you thought you were starting to matter to him and close to making it official.
You hide behind a column in the middle of the pub, trying to decide what to do. Part of you wants to walk away, leave without saying a word, and let him figure out what he’d lost. But you couldn’t just let it go. So you make your way to the table, keeping a neutral face, and try to hold back your tears.
“Hey, there you are,” Rafe smiles, as you approach him.
“Hey,” you say, your voice steady, though it takes everything you have to keep it from shaking. “We need to talk.” Before he could say anything, you grab his hand taking him outside the pub. As you stand outside, it’s already drizzling.
“Whoa, what’s wrong? Can't we talk inside? It’s raining,” he asks, his voice full of confusion.
You let go of his hand and go silent for a moment. He looks at your face that is now about to cry, “Baby what’s wrong?” he says.
“Don’t call me that if you don’t mean it Rafe,” you mutter.
He blinks. “What are you talking about?”
“I heard you,” your voice loud now. “Telling them we’re not dating? No strings attached? Seriously Rafe? After these past few months? Is it casual now?”
Rafe’s face shifts, the unease creeping into his features. He clears his throat, trying to smooth over the tension. “Look, I thought we’re on the same page here-“
“Same page? What same page are we talking about?” You cut him off. “I thought you were starting to look at me differently now Rafe.” You fluster. “Oh and not to mention calling me a pogue? I thought we’re WAY past that..”
He sighs, scratching the back of his head. “Ok about that I'm sorry kay’. I didn’t mean to call you a pogue just, you know…Topper and Ruthie, they caught me off guard. And you never really talked about anything more serious, so I figured we’re just not together.”
You could feel the heat rising in your chest. “I never talked about it? Oh so now I’m the one to blame? Are you serious?” Your eyes narrow.
He pauses, trying to find the right thing to say. “I just…I’m happy with the way we are right now. I’m not-“
“Not what? Not ready to be in a relationship? That’s bullshit.” You cut him off again, not wanting to hear any excuses. “How can you stand there and say you’re okay with this? After all the plans we made, the endless nights we spent?” you continue, meeting his gaze that looks unbothered. “You know what…I can’t…yes, I tried to be the chill girl who holds her tongue and gives you space but not anymore. No, I’m done,” you say, trying to walk away.
The rain is getting heavier now, and both of you are soaking wet. “Wait,” he calls out your name. “Just wait okay…I’m sorry I hurt you, yes I would be lying if I said this doesn’t mean something but just give me time okay, I just…I can't do relationships right now,” he says, grabbing your wrist trying to stop you.
“No Rafe,” you shake your head, a tear runs down to your cheek. “I’m done waiting. It’s hard Rafe…It’s hard being casual when my favourite bra lives in your dresser and it’s definitely not casual when I’m always on the phone talking to Wheezie like I’m her sister,” you swallow, biting your inner cheek trying to keep your emotion in check.
He gives a small dismissive wave, like I’m overthinking things. “Well I did warn you no attachment, y/n,” he says, with such cold detachment, as if his words are nothing more than a simple fact, devoid of any emotion.
You look at him with disappointment crawling up to your throat. He isn’t even trying to make it work, not even pretending to care about how you feel. You hate the fact what he said is true, he did warn you not to get attached and you hate yourself even more for dragging this on for so long. You stare at him for a moment longer, “Fuck you, Rafe,” then you turn and walk away to your car. There is no use in arguing with someone who has no intention of changing their mind. If this is how Rafe sees you, then he is not the guy you think he is.
Maybe he is okay with keeping things casual but you deserve more than that. Rafe Cameron can go to hell.

The night had started off quiet, too quiet for your liking. You had met up with some friends at the usual club, but soon everything became monotonous. Loud music, laughter, a few interested glances from boys you didn't care about... Nothing new. You were used to standing out, to getting attention, and today you felt a latent need for something different, something that would get you out of that routine. What you didn't expect was that the night would take an unexpected turn and that you would end up running next to Rafe Cameron, with your heart beating a thousand miles an hour.
It all started with a simple misunderstanding. A group of unknown boys approached you at the bar, insisting on drinks and comments that went from flattering to annoying in a matter of minutes. At first, you tried to ignore them, but one of them didn't get the message. His hand rested on your arm with too much confidence, pulling you as if he had the right to do so.
"Let me go," you said firmly, looking him straight in the eyes.
The boy laughed, as if your words had no weight, and continued to insist. You didn't like being treated like that, as if you were just another one they could manipulate at will. You were about to let go when Rafe appeared out of nowhere, as if he had been observing the situation from afar. His mere presence changed the dynamic in an instant.
"Do you have a problem?" Rafe asked, his tone calm but full of tension, as if he was already ready for anything.
The boys looked at him, assessing him. Rafe didn't need to say much to command respect; he was the kind of person who could make someone doubt with just his gaze. But this time, the boys decided not to back down.
"It's none of your business, buddy," one of them replied, defying the calm that still remained in the atmosphere.
And then, everything exploded.
What followed was a succession of quick movements, blows and pushes. Rafe was the first to attack, with a precision that made it clear that it was not his first fight. You, though surprised, weren't far behind. You'd always had that explosive side, that energy that made you face things without thinking twice. One of the boys got too close and without hesitation, you pushed him back with more force than he expected.
Chaos broke out. The music was still playing in the background, mixing with the screams and the sound of glasses falling to the floor. Adrenaline was running through your veins. You weren't scared; you were alive, more alive than you had felt in days.
In a matter of minutes, it was all over. The boys were either on the ground or far enough away that you wouldn't try again. You and Rafe barely looked at each other, there was just an exchange of quick glances and the urgent need to disappear.
"Let's go," he said, taking your hand without waiting for an answer.
And you ran with him, leaving the club as if you were escaping a fire. Laughter began to bubble in your chest as they ran through the dark streets, away from the chaos they had left behind. Rafe, always so serious and controlled, was laughing too, that sincere laugh he rarely showed. It was contagious, and before you knew it, you were both cracking up.
“What the hell was that?” you asked between laughs, finally stopping in a dark alley where no one could see you.
Rafe leaned against the wall, still breathing heavily. His face was illuminated by the distant lights, and for a second you realized how rare it was to see him like this, so relaxed, so… human.
“What we do best, I guess,” he replied, running a hand through his messy hair. There was a spark in his eyes, an emotion that mirrored yours.
You leaned against him, breathing deeply as you tried to calm yourself. The silence between the two of you was comfortable, a pause amidst all the adrenaline.
“You know?” you finally said, turning your head to look at him. “It was fun.”
Rafe let out a soft laugh, tilting his head at you.
“Do you like getting into trouble?” he asked you with a lopsided grin.
“No more than you do,” you replied with a wink.
After a few more minutes, Rafe straightened up.
“We better get moving before someone finds us,” he said, holding out his hand to you.
You took it without hesitation, letting him lead you back to his car. The engine roared as they drove away from the place, and you, with the window open and the wind hitting your face.
A few minutes later Rafe’s car stopped in front of your house after a ride in which both of you had remained silent. But it wasn’t awkward.
“Well, here we are, princess pogue,” Rafe said with a crooked smile, glancing at you out of the corner of your eye as he turned off the engine.
You laughed softly and turned to him, leaning your elbow on the car door. That nickname had something of a mockery to it, but it didn’t bother you. If there was one thing you had learned in all this time with him, it was that this mix of sarcasm and humor was part of his charm.
“I know. So exotic, so out of your perfect world, right?” you joked, faking an arrogant expression while you looked at your nails, as if you were the queen of the entire Outer Banks.
Rafe let out a laugh, one you had rarely heard from him, deep and sincere.
“I almost feel like I should ask you for an autograph before you enter your mansion.”
“Sure. But I would charge you… and I don’t think I would be able to afford it, Cameron.” You joked back, raising a challenging eyebrow.
Rafe shook his head. There was something about you that threw him off, took him out of that character he always wore.
“Don’t underestimate me. Maybe I’ll surprise myself and have enough to pay for your expensive autographs.” He replied with a mocking smile.
You laughed again, enjoying that lightness that was rare when you were around him. Rafe had a reputation, and you knew it better than anyone. But at times like this, he felt different, more human, closer.
“Well, we’ll see if you get lucky next time.”
You opened the car door and climbed out, the cool night air hitting your face. From the open door, you leaned into him once more.
“Thanks for saving me from those idiots. I think I could handle it though…” you said with a playful smile.
Rafe looked at you with a mix of amusement and something else, something you couldn’t quite figure out.
“Sure, but… it doesn’t hurt to have someone watching your back, right?” He winked at you.
“No, it doesn’t hurt.” you admitted quietly.
The two of you looked at each other for a moment longer, a moment suspended in the air before he looked away and started the car again.
“See you soon.” He said before speeding off and disappearing into the darkness of the night.
You stood on the sidewalk for a second, watching the taillights of Rafe’s car fade into the distance. There was something about him, that mix of danger and calm, that made you feel alive. Something that drew you in, even when you knew you shouldn't.
With a sigh, you turned and entered your house.
The next day, sunlight filtered timidly through the curtains of your room. You woke up early, as always. You could still feel the echo of the laughter shared with Rafe on your skin and how the emotion of the moment had left you in an almost euphoric state. But today, that emotion had to take a backseat. It was Sofia’s birthday. And that meant that your best friend needed you.
Still between the sheets, you grabbed your phone and sent her a message:
“Happy birthday, Sof 🎉! I hope you’re ready to be the center of attention today… Although that’s not much different than any other day, right?”
Sofia’s response came almost immediately.
“Thank you!! ❤️ I’m so excited and nervous at the same time. I don’t want anything to go wrong tonight.”
You laughed softly, imagining the mix of excitement and anxiety that was probably shining in her eyes at that moment. Sofia had always been like that, wanting everything to be perfect.
You quickly wrote a reply:
“Relax, everything will be fine. I'll come early to help you with whatever you need. You're not going to do this alone.”
“You're the best. Seriously, I don't know what I'd do without you. See you in a bit! 😊”
You got out of bed, already with a clear idea in mind. The night was going to be important for Sofia, and you were going to make sure it was perfect. After all, she was your best friend, and her happiness had always been on your priority list.
You went to the bathroom, took a shower, and got ready with the same dedication as always. You liked to be impeccable, and today would be no exception. You opted for a casual but elegant look: light shorts and a tank top in a neutral tone that highlighted your tan. Your hair was loose, with soft natural waves, and a touch of makeup that highlighted your eyes.
Before you left, you took one last look at yourself in the mirror, making sure everything was in its place.
You grabbed your bag and walked out, walking towards the Cameron house.
When you reached the door, you couldn’t help but feel a slight thrill. There was always something about that house that gave you a mix of nerves and anticipation. You knocked softly, and before you could wait too long, the door swung open. Sofia was there, beaming, with a wide smile and an energy that seemed contagious.
“You’re here!” she exclaimed, hugging you tightly. “Thank you for coming. I don’t know where to start… there are so many things to do.”
“That’s what I’m here to do, calm you down and help you organize everything.” You hugged her back just as intensely, smiling. “First, breathe. Everything’s going to be okay. Today is your day, and you have to enjoy it.”
“I’ll try,” Sofia replied, giggling nervously as she led you inside. “But you know how I am.” If something goes wrong…
“Nothing is going to go wrong,” you interrupted her firmly. “Trust me. Now tell me, where do we start?”
Sofia led you to the kitchen, where there was an endless list of things to do: decorations, food, everything needed for a party that promised to be the event of the month.
When they finally finished, the sun was beginning to set behind the horizon. The house was impeccable and elegantly decorated. Sofia had taken care of every detail: lights were strategically hung to create a warm and luxurious atmosphere, while gold and silver tones dominated the place, reflecting the theme of the night. The atmosphere promised to be spectacular.
Sofia and you went up to her room together to get ready.
“I can’t believe everything is ready,” Sofia said as she opened the door to her closet. “I thought we would never make it.”
“See? I told you everything would turn out well,” you replied with a smile. “Now comes the best part: getting amazing.”
Sofia pulled out a long, silver-colored dress, fitted to her figure, with rhinestone details that captured the light in a mesmerizing way. While she changed, you approached your own selection of clothes that you had brought with you.
You chose a simple but elegant gold dress with thin straps that left your shoulders and back bare. It wasn’t the most impressive dress you’d ever worn, but for the occasion it was more than enough. You slid it smoothly down your body, adjusting it in place, and looked at yourself in the mirror.
“What do you think?” you asked, turning slightly to see your reflection.
Sofia, now in her silver dress, looked at you with a smile.
“You look beautiful, as always. That gold is perfect for you.”
You smiled, accepting the compliment, although deep down you still thought you could have chosen something more dazzling.
You sat in front of the mirror to fix your hair. You opted for soft, natural waves, which fell gracefully over your shoulders. You didn’t want anything too elaborate; just something that would complement the dress and enhance your face.
The makeup was simple but effective: a subtle eyeliner that highlighted your eyes, a touch of gold shadow to highlight the theme of the night, and lips in a nude tone that kept the look elegant but discreet. You made sure every detail was in place before standing up and putting the finishing touches on a pair of small, delicate earrings.
“Ready,” you said, turning to Sofia.
She looked at you with pride and excitement.
“We look amazing. Tonight is going to be perfect, I’m sorry.”
“Of course it will be,” you assured her as you both walked down the stairs. “Everything is ready, and you look spectacular. This is your night, Sof.”
The house was already beginning to fill with guests arriving one after another, dressed in matching gold and silver tones. Music floated through the air, and the lights danced softly, reflecting the luxury and exclusivity Sofia had wanted for her birthday.
As you watched everything unfold, a part of you felt calm. They had worked hard, and now it was time to enjoy.
The party was going on with a calm and elegant atmosphere. Guests moved between the decorated rooms, chatting, laughing, toasting Sofia. There was an enveloping calm that you liked; you felt comfortable, but there was also something in the air, a feeling that something could change at any moment.
You decided to take a walk around the mansion, observing the people, their gestures, their glances. You moved gracefully, with a drink in your hand, enjoying the atmosphere and that subtle feeling of being part of something special.
That was when you saw it.
Rafe was leaning against one of the walls, observing the crowd with an indecipherable expression. He didn't seem lost or bored, just... attentive. As if every movement around him had a meaning that only he could decipher.
You slowly approached him, until you were next to him.
"How was the party?" you asked him with a smile, breaking the silence between you.
Rafe turned his face slightly towards you. His blue eyes met yours for a moment, intense but calm.
"I'm enjoying myself," he replied, with that calm and confident tone, as if nothing in the world could alter it.
You nodded, and the smile remained on your face.
"Me too," you said. Silence settled between you two again, but it wasn't uncomfortable, it was as if words weren't necessary for a moment. It was just the two of you, amidst the distant murmur of the party.
Suddenly, you felt his gaze.
It wasn't a casual look. It was a lingering look, as if every detail of your face captured his attention. His eyes scanned every line, every shadow, every expression. It was an intense look, but not uncomfortable, almost as if he were in a daze, lost in that moment. There was no judgment or coldness, just something you couldn't quite define.
You noticed it. You felt it. But, to your surprise, it didn't make you nervous.
You didn't know how to feel about it. There was something intriguing about being watched like that, something that made you wonder what exactly he saw. So, almost without thinking, you looked at him too.
Your eyes searched for his. And for an instant that seemed eternal, they met. Two gazes that held each other, that understood each other without words, that explored something beyond the obvious. There was no noise around them. There was no one else at that moment.
Finally, they both separated their gazes, as if something invisible had reminded them that the world kept turning.
“Behind every beautiful thing, there is some kind of pain,” you said quietly, almost like a thought out loud.
Rafe looked at you again, this time with a slight glimmer of understanding in his eyes. He nodded slowly, as if those words resonated with something he himself understood, something he carried within.
There was nothing else to say at that moment. You gently stepped away, leaving the glass on a nearby table.
“I’m going to walk a little,” you told him, and he simply watched you as you walked away.
The fresh air greeted you as you stepped out into the garden. Each step took you away from the hustle and bustle of the party, but not from the feeling Rafe had left in you.
You walked slowly along the well-kept paths, surrounded by soft lights hanging from the trees, illuminating the path with a calm warmth. The sky was clear, and the stars twinkled softly, as if they were watching you too. You felt good, at peace, enjoying that moment of solitude, getting away from everything for a moment.
But you weren't alone for long.
You heard footsteps behind you, soft but firm. You didn't need to turn around to know who it was. There was something unmistakable about Rafe's presence. A confident, calm air, but charged with something more, something that always seemed to throb beneath the surface.
He stood beside you without saying a word. There was no need to explain why he was there, or to ask him why he had decided to accompany you. He just did it, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
They walked together, in silence. Neither of them felt the urge to fill the space with words. The night was enough. The soft sounds of the wind through the leaves, the crunch of gravel under their feet, and the occasional whisper of the breeze were enough company.
Rafe had his hands in his pockets, his posture relaxed, but his eyes observed everything around him with that characteristic attention, as if every detail was important. Every now and then, his eyes would drift to you, though he didn't say anything.
There was something surprisingly comfortable about that shared silence. You didn't feel compelled to speak, to explain anything, to pretend anything. Rafe seemed to understand that, and you understood it too.
They walked along a path that bordered the garden, passing by a small pond where the reflection of the golden lights from the party sparkled in the water. You stopped for a moment, watching as the soft waves distorted the lights, creating dancing patterns. Rafe stopped beside you, watching the same thing.
“It’s a beautiful night,” you finally commented, breaking the silence, but with a soft voice, as if you didn’t want to disturb the calm of that moment.
Rafe nodded, a smile almost imperceptible on his face.
“Yes, it is.”
The silence returned, but this time it was different. It was a silence filled with understanding, with something that didn’t need to be said out loud. Both of you continued walking, slowly advancing through the garden.
At some point, his steps aligned perfectly with yours, as if walking together was something you had always done. There was no rush. You were just there, enjoying the night, the calm.
The silence continued between you, but at that moment, you felt it was time to go back, to get back to reality. You looked at Rafe, who was still walking beside you, his gaze fixed straight ahead.
“I think I should head back to the party,” you said, keeping your voice light, but with a small smile, “They’re going to miss you. I’ll come back later.”
Rafe looked at you then, a glint of understanding in his eyes. He didn’t seem upset, rather, it seemed like he had been waiting for you to say it. He nodded slightly and, without losing his calm, glanced up at the starry sky.
“You’re right.” His tone was relaxed, but there was a spark in his eyes that made it clear that you didn’t care much about the party or the others.
You both stopped in front of the garden entrance, as if you somehow knew that the walk had come to an end. The party continued in the distance, laughter and conversations floating in the air.
“I’ll see you later then,” Rafe said with a slight smile.
He took a step back, giving you room to turn around and head back into the hustle and bustle of the party.
With a small wave of his hand, you began to walk back.
“See you later,” you said as you walked away, still staring at him for a moment, knowing that even though you were physically walking away, somehow, the words that weren’t said between you would still be floating in the air.
Rafe stood there, watching you go, before turning around again and heading back to the party.
After you both returned to the party, the atmosphere had changed slightly. The music was still playing, but something in the air seemed lighter. People were gathered around the center table, where Sofia was at the front, surrounded by her friends, family, and loved ones. They were all waiting for the moment when she would blow out the candles, the perfect ending to their celebration.
The table was adorned with gold and silver details, like the theme of the party, and in the center, a large three-tiered cake dominated the stage. The candles glowed softly, with the light dancing over the smiling faces of everyone present. Sofia looked radiant, her dress shining under the lights of the room, and her eyes reflected a mix of excitement and gratitude.
Rafe approached you, a glass in his hand, and offered it to you with a discreet smile. It was clear that the tension between the two of you had not completely dissipated, but at that moment, everything seemed simpler, lighter. He raised his glass in your direction, waiting for you to toast with it.
“To Sofia,” he said in a soft tone, looking towards the table, where Sofia was already ready to blow out the candles.
You raised your glass as well, nodding with a smile. “To Sofia,” you repeated, feeling that the night, despite everything, had something special, something you couldn’t describe, but you knew deep down. You both toasted, clinking glasses with a small sound that resonated in the air.
Sofia, with her gaze full of hope, closed her eyes and blew out the candles. At that moment, everyone present kept a brief silence, waiting for her to make her wish. The bated breath in the room felt like a bubble about to burst, and then, as if everything had been calculated, Sofia opened her eyes and smiled.
“Thank you all for being here,” she said, her voice warm and full of emotion, looking at everyone present. “Thank you for this very special day.”
Applause filled the room, and the music took control of the night again, as people began to laugh and enjoy themselves again. Rafe, for his part, gave you one last look before diverting his attention to his group of friends.
The night continued, filled with laughter and toasts.
The next day, the sun shone brightly on the mansion and the atmosphere remained relaxed, almost as if the party the day before had been just a distant dream. The pool sparkled invitingly under the midday heat, the clear water reflecting the clear sky. You had already begun to enjoy the day, swimming and letting yourself be carried away by the calm of the place. The water surrounded you, cool and refreshing, as you swam back and forth, enjoying the peace of those solitary moments.
Rafe and Sofia were in the lounger area, almost ignoring you in their own world.
After a while, you decided to get out of the water. You laid down on one of the lounge chairs, feeling the sun on your skin. But soon, bored of just sitting there doing nothing, you got up and headed over to the pool table. You grabbed a cue and, in order to distract yourself, decided to play a little, not really interested in winning, just to pass the time.
It wasn't long before Rafe approached you, watching with a slight smile on his face.
"Do you dare to play a game?" he asked, also taking a cue and adjusting his shirt a little.
Sofia, from her spot by the pool, watched the two of you, somewhat distant, but not enough to not notice how you interacted. It could have been her curious look, or perhaps the way her body was slightly tense, but at that moment, something seemed different.
The game started with laughter and small jokes between you and Rafe. He, always a bit of a tease, would try to tease you with some comment or make you lose focus, but all in good spirits. You realized that, at that moment, there was no pressure. There was no tension, just the sound of the cue hitting the balls, the laughter and the words that intertwined naturally.
Meanwhile, Sofia stood there, watching in silence.
Rafe, more focused on the game than anything else, made a couple of jokes to you while he won it, but you weren't intimidated. You laughed, both at his attitude and at the little tricks he tried, although without being really competitive, which kept the atmosphere light.
At one point, your cue missed on a crucial shot and Rafe couldn't help but laugh.
"That's the best you've got?" he said, taking his turn to give it the final blow.
Finally, after a few rounds, the match ended and Rafe emerged victorious, albeit with a slight hint of irony, as he knew you had let him win a couple of times just to not make the moment too tense.
Sofia approached, as if she had been waiting for them to finish so she could resume the chat between the three of you.
The day progressed slowly, the sun shining brightly on the pool and the gardens of the mansion. The air was getting warmer and warmer, the atmosphere relaxed with soft music in the background. Sofia and you had laughed together, enjoying the little jokes.
As the sun began to set, dyeing the sky orange and pink hues, Sofia received a call. Her face changed slightly as she looked at her phone, and after a few seconds of conversation, she told you that she had to leave, that her family needed her.
“Do you want me to go with you?” you asked, without thinking too much about what you were saying. An impulse, a need to not let her go alone.
But Sofia looked at you with a smile, her voice soft but firm.
“It’s not necessary. Stay here, enjoy the day,” she replied with a calm that almost surprised you.
So, without being able to do much else, you watched her leave, watching her walk away down the path that led to the entrance of the mansion. You stood there, watching the sunset for a long moment. Something in the air, in the stillness of the place, made you feel uncomfortable, as if everything was about to change. The house suddenly seemed empty, and the sound of your own footsteps echoed in the silence that settled around it.
With the intention of not staying there thinking about what you didn’t want to think about, you decided to go out to the backyard, looking for a distraction. Maybe just a little fresh air would help you calm the anxiety that was beginning to grow inside you.
The patio was quiet, with the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze and the soft murmur of the pool water, but the quiet only served to make you feel even more nervous. You walked a little further, approaching the trees and shadows of the garden, trying to escape a situation that made you feel uncomfortable.
It was then that you heard his footsteps. Rafe, who had not left you alone all day, appeared behind you, his elongated figure projecting over the grass. At first you didn't say anything, as if the silence between the two of you was some kind of invisible wall that you didn't even want to touch.
"Are you going to stay here alone?" Rafe asked, his voice soft, but with something in it that made you turn to look at him. He didn't seem to notice the tension in the air, or maybe he felt it too, but didn't know how to handle it.
And it was at that moment, when his eyes met yours, that everything became more intense. A simple exchange of glances turned into something deeper, something that both of you seemed to understand without the need for words. He was close, close enough for you to feel his presence. His gaze, once calm, now seemed charged with something else. You couldn't say exactly what it was, but it was there, like an invisible current that silently united you.
You both stood there, as if suspended in time, not knowing whether to move forward or back. You wanted to break that silence, but the truth was that you didn't know how. The fact that he was so close, his soft breathing, his gaze fixed on you, made everything much more complicated.
Rafe took a step towards you, without saying a word, as if he was looking for something in your expression, something that would make you give in. Your body reacted before your mind could process it, taking a step back, but not really moving away from him. It was as if gravity had brought them together in that instant, an invisible force pulling them both to the same place. The tension was palpable, like a thin thread that tightened with every millimeter of space they shared.
You felt trapped in the moment, as if your thoughts were caught between the need to flee and the need to stay there. And although you didn't want to admit it, you were attracted to him, and that terrified you. Something about his closeness, his presence, made you feel vulnerable, but at the same time, something in you wanted him not to move away.
Rafe, it seemed, felt it too. He stared at you a little longer, as if he was waiting for you to make the first move, or as if he was undecided between saying something or simply remaining suspended in the air in that moment. Finally, it was he who broke the silence with a slight smile, a smile that, although it seemed relaxed, hid something deeper, something you knew you couldn't decipher.
“I don't know what we're doing here.” he said quietly, as if he didn't want to break the spell that had fallen between the two of you.
You looked at each other, unable to formulate a response, and in that instant, the gap between the two of you closed. Without saying another word, you turned around and began to walk, breaking that moment of tension, knowing that what you felt was not something you could control or explain. But, at the same time, you couldn't deny that a part of you didn't want that moment to end.
The courtyard no longer seemed so welcoming, and you no longer knew whether to leave, stay, or face it. But something told you that tonight, things would not be the same as before.
The night was passing slowly, silence enveloping the atmosphere. Sofia had not yet returned, and although you had tried not to think about it, there was something in you that already predicted that things would change. You did not know exactly how or why, but you felt a pressure in the air.
Hours passed while you waited for her return, but when you finally received her message, you knew that everything had fallen apart. “I will not return tonight. I have things to resolve.” The words floated before your eyes, and something inside you tightened. You knew that the situation was becoming more complicated, and at the same time, you felt a strange mix of relief and nervousness. You were left alone, not knowing what to do, with that feeling that everything you had been avoiding was finally going to happen.
You looked at Rafe, who had been silent in some corner of the house. He seemed so oblivious to what was going through your mind, but there was also something in his presence that attracted you, something you could no longer ignore.
“Sofia won’t be back tonight,” you said, trying to sound calm, but your voice was shaking a little. “I think I’ll go.”
Rafe looked at you with a slightly crooked smile, as if he had been waiting for that answer. The sparkle in his eyes, the slight glint of amusement in his expression, made you hesitate for a moment.
“Don’t you want to go out for a while?”
His invitation was like a temptation, a soft voice that made you reconsider. It was hard to resist the idea of escaping from everything, of leaving behind the tension that was building in the air, of feeling a small spark of freedom, even if it was only for a couple of hours.
You, knowing it wasn’t the right thing to do, hesitated for a moment. How wrong could it be? After all, you weren’t doing anything “serious,” you were just a couple of friends, right? The answer seemed more like an excuse than a justification, but still, something inside you pushed you to say:
“That doesn’t sound bad.”
Rafe smiled immediately, and the way his eyes sparkled made your heart beat a little faster, but you forced yourself to calm down. You didn't know if you were fooling yourself, but the night was young, and the world seemed more accessible at the moment.
The two of you walked outside, the city streets deserted and quiet under the starry sky. The moonlight illuminated everything softly, and for some reason, that silence was comforting. The escape you were looking for surrounded you, and with each step, the tension in the air faded, although you knew that, deep down, there was no escape from what was really happening between the two of you.
You didn't talk much as you walked, but the company was enough. The sound of your footsteps and their calm breathing were the only things you could hear, and yet, there was a silent burden, something you both tried to ignore, but it was there, palpable in the air. Something in their gazes, something in their closeness.
As time went on, aimlessly, they began to laugh, to chat about trivial things, as if trying not to think about the obvious would help them relax. You realized that, for a moment, everything seemed easier.
It was when the first lights of dawn began to touch the horizon, that something in the atmosphere became almost palpable, a touch, a spark. They both found themselves standing close, too close to each other, as if an invisible force attracted them in a way that neither could deny.
You could hear their breathing, ragged, almost synchronized, as if at that moment nothing else existed in the world but the two of them. They were so close that you could feel their warmth, their presence, and that small line between what was right and what was not blurred.
You felt unable to move, as if everything you had been thinking about, everything you had wanted to avoid, was about to break. The urge to reach out to him, to follow the desire that was growing between you two, was stronger than ever. But something inside you made you stop. A clear thought, a reminder of what really mattered to you.
“This is wrong, Rafe,” you said in a shaky but firm voice as you took a step back, looking out at the horizon. “We should stay friends. I don’t want to complicate things. It’s not what we need.”
Silence settled between the two of you, and he stared at you. His eyes, which had previously been bright with amusement, now held something else, something like a mix of understanding and perhaps a bit of disappointment.
“Are we friends?” he asked, almost with a sad smile, as if he wasn’t sure of the answer.
You stayed silent for a moment, searching for the answer in your own feelings. Finally, you decided to give the answer that, at that moment, seemed the most sensible.
“I guess so,” you said, a sigh escaping your lips.
Rafe nodded slowly, as if he finally understood something he had been searching for in you.
“That’s good to know,” he murmured, and for a moment, everything between you seemed to calm down.
But, you knew everything had changed. You couldn’t just go back to how things were before. Without another word, you turned around, feeling the weight of the goodbye, but unable to help it.
“I’m leaving alone,” you said, without looking back.
Rafe didn’t say anything, although hesitation could be seen in his eyes. He didn’t want to let you go, but deep down he knew he couldn’t keep insisting. For some reason, in the end, he didn't say anything, he just watched as you walked away.
You returned to your house, the cold morning air caressing your skin, and although you felt like something had changed between you and him, you also knew that, somehow, you had made the right decision. Although, deep down, you wondered if it really was.
After what happened that night with Rafe, something inside you changed. An invisible barrier rose, separating you from him and, consequently, from Sofia as well. The awkwardness that was once just a spark had now become a smoldering fire, burning inside you every time you thought about him, about how close you were, about how you almost crossed a line that shouldn't be crossed.
You decided that the best thing to do was to walk away. Guilt weighed on you like a burden you couldn't let go of, and although you wanted to pretend that everything was okay, your conscience wouldn't let you rest. You made up excuses not to see them. When Sofia invited you out, to the beach, the pool, or any other gathering, you always had something else to do.
—Sorry, I have to study.
—I can't, I feel a little bad today.
—I have to help my mom with something.
The excuses piled up, one after another, until Sofia started to notice. At first, she believed you. She was your friend, she trusted you. But after several weeks of evasions, her messages started to sound different, more insistent, almost worried.
—Are you okay? We haven't seen you lately.
—Strange that you don't want to come... we miss you.
—Are you avoiding something?
You responded evasively, trying not to raise suspicions, but you knew that Sofia wasn't stupid. However, you preferred to deal with her concern rather than face what was really tormenting you: Rafe.
He, on the other hand, seemed unchanging. There was no change in his behavior, at least not visible. He didn't seem to feel the same discomfort or guilt that haunted you. He would send you messages from time to time, casual, as if nothing had happened between you.
—Are you going to the party tonight?
—Are you okay? I haven't seen you lately.
—Sofia asked about you, I told her you're probably busy.
Sometimes you read his messages and ignored them. You didn't want to fall into that dynamic of responding, of pretending everything was normal. But other times, the temptation was stronger, and you responded, although coldly, without giving rise to anything else.
—I'm fine.
—I don't think I'm going.
—Thanks for letting me know.
Each word of yours was measured, each message carefully worded to not lead to a deeper conversation. But Rafe didn't seem affected. He didn't chase you, he didn't insist, and that made you even angrier.
How could he be so calm after all? How could he act like nothing had happened while you were drowning in guilt? What hurt you most was that, deep down, you knew that was his nature. Rafe Cameron didn't feel remorse. He never had. He was always like that: cold, calculating, and seemingly incapable of feeling guilt.
And that made you even angrier. Because how could you be angry at him for being exactly the way he always was? There was a reason he always looked down on you, there was a reason he always looked at you with that mix of arrogance and disdain. Because to him, nothing really mattered. He wasn't afraid to cross boundaries, because to Rafe, boundaries were just an abstract concept that he could ignore when it suited him.
You felt caught in a contradiction. You hated him for not feeling anything, but at the same time, a part of you envied that indifference. Because while you carried the weight of what could have happened, he kept going, as if you were just another person in his life.
There were days when you wanted to confront him, ask him directly why he didn't feel the same as you, why he didn't seem affected. But the fear of facing his indifference stopped you. Because you knew that if you did, his answer would be cold, sharp, and maybe make you feel worse.
And so, the weeks kept passing. You avoided any place where you might run into him. If you knew Sofia and Rafe were going to be at a party, you just didn’t go. If you heard his name in conversation, you walked away before they could talk about him anymore. Even on social media, you avoided looking at anything that might remind you of that night, that closeness, that moment you almost crossed paths.
But despite all your efforts, Rafe was still there, in the back of your mind. He was like a shadow you couldn’t erase, a presence that followed you, even when he wasn’t around.
One afternoon, as you were checking your phone, a new message from him popped up on your screen. You stared at it for a moment, hesitating to open it. Just seeing it made your heart beat faster, a mix of anxiety and something you didn’t want to admit.
—You’re really quiet lately. Everything okay?
You closed your eyes for a moment, trying to decide whether to respond or not. You knew a part of you wanted to, wanted to keep that connection, even if it was minimal. But you also knew that every message, every interaction, only made things more complicated.
Finally, you left the message unanswered, turned off your phone, and sighed. The conflict was still there, inside you, a battle between desire and reason, between what you felt for Rafe and what you knew was right. And all the while, he was still Rafe: untouchable, indifferent, and always one step ahead.
You had built up a routine of avoidance: excuses for not going out, cold and calculated messages, avoiding meetings where you knew he would be. You had decided that the best thing for you was to keep your distance and protect both your heart and your friendship with Sofia. You didn't want to be "the other." You didn't want to be the reason everything fell apart.
But Rafe seemed to have other plans.
He kept looking for you. His messages became more frequent, his gazes more intense every time you met by chance. And when you avoided him, he found a way to close the distance, to make you feel his presence, as if he knew exactly which buttons to push to make you doubt your decisions.
One afternoon, while you were at a local café, enjoying a moment alone, you saw his figure approaching. Tall, self-assured, with that look that always seemed to carry a dangerous mix of arrogance and attraction. There was no escape this time.
“Can I sit down?” Rafe asked, even though he was already dragging the chair in front of you.
You sighed, trying to keep your composure.
“Sure, but I don’t stay long,” you replied nonchalantly.
He smiled, as if he perfectly understood the game you were playing. He knew you were trying to keep him at bay, and it seemed to amuse him more than it put him off.
“Are you hiding from me?” he asked, leaning his elbows on the table and staring at you.
“No. Why would I?” you replied, avoiding his eyes as you stirred your coffee.
His gaze burned into you. It was as if he could see right through you, piercing through every one of your carefully raised defenses. You knew you shouldn’t fall for his game, but with every passing second you felt your self-control slowly crumble.
“I don’t know… I barely see you lately. Sofia notices it too.” His tone was casual, but there was something else there, a hidden insinuation.
“I’ve been busy,” you said, shrugging.
The silence stretched on, and when you finally looked up, you found him watching you with an intensity that made your heart skip a beat. There was something in his eyes, a mix of desire, frustration, and… defiance. Like he was waiting for you to be the one to break that barrier.
“You should focus on Sofia,” you murmured, diverting the conversation back to where you wanted to take it. “She’s the one who matters.”
Rafe leaned a little closer to you, closing the distance.
“What if it’s not just Sofia?” he whispered.
Your hands tightened around the cup. That line, that edge you’d both been skirting since that night, was dangerously close again. And the worst part of it all was that, even though you knew you should walk away, part of you wanted to know what would happen if you didn’t.
“We can’t, Rafe. I don’t want to be “the other.” I’m not going to ruin what I have with Sofia for… this. “Your voice was firm, but there was a barely perceptible tremor in your words.
He was silent for a moment, studying every expression on your face. He didn’t seem upset or disappointed. On the contrary, he seemed intrigued, as if your words were a challenge rather than a refusal.
“For this?” he repeated with a half smile.
“For whatever this is,” you clarified, trying to sound confident.
Rafe sighed, but didn’t move away. On the contrary, he rested a hand on the table, almost brushing yours, so close that you could feel the warmth of his skin.
“What if it’s not what you think?” he asked quietly. “What if we can handle it without ruining anything?”
You bit your lip, fighting back the emotions that threatened to overflow. You wanted to believe him, wanted to believe that he could control himself, that you could keep everything in order, but you knew that things were never that simple.
“I can’t risk it,” you said at last, pulling your hand away and breaking contact. “I don’t want to lose her. Or myself.”
Rafe nodded slowly, but his eyes were still fixed on you. There was something in his gaze that wouldn’t go away: desire mixed with stubbornness. Like this was just a chapter in a story he was determined to continue.
“Okay,” he murmured, getting up from his chair. “But you can’t walk away forever.”
You stayed silent as he left, leaving an air heavy with tension and a racing heartbeat in your chest. You knew he was right. You couldn’t walk away forever. But for now, you promised yourself that you would keep trying, because if you got close again, you knew that this time you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself.
That same day, you returned home with your heart tangled in a tangle of emotions. The tension you had been avoiding was no longer something you could ignore. You felt the need to talk to someone, to find clarity in the midst of the chaos that had broken out in your mind. However, you chose to lock yourself in your room, hoping that the silence of the night would give you the answers you were looking for.
But your mother didn't let you isolate yourself for long.
"Are you okay?" she asked softly from the door, peeking in with a curious, motherly look. She had noticed your behavior in the last few days. The constant excuses, the long sighs, the nights when you seemed to be in another world.
“Yeah, Mom, I’m just tired,” you replied, trying to sound nonchalant as you settled into bed.
She wasn’t fooled. She walked into your room, closed the door behind her, and sat on the edge of the bed. Her eyes, full of wisdom and tenderness, looked at you with that mix of understanding and concern that only a mother could have.
“Honey, I know you too well. Something’s going on. Do you want to talk about it?”
You sighed. You knew she wasn’t going to give up, and somehow that comforted you. You took a moment before answering.
“It’s complicated, Mom. I don’t know how to explain it without it sounding… bad.” You looked down, fiddling with the sleeves of your sweatshirt.
She waited patiently, giving you the time you needed. When you finally raised your head, you found in her gaze an invitation to vent.
“There’s someone…” you began, choosing your words carefully. “Someone I shouldn’t be with. He’s a friend’s boyfriend, and… I don’t know how it happened, but everything is a mess now. I try to get away, but it seems like the more I try, the harder it gets. It’s like he doesn’t want to let me go.”
Your mother nodded slowly, processing each word. She didn’t interrupt you, she just let you talk.
“I know it’s wrong, and I feel guilty, but at the same time… there’s something about him that I can’t ignore. It’s like there’s something between us that shouldn’t be there, but I can’t help it either.”
Your mother looked at you with an expression that was a mix of empathy and nostalgia. “I understand more than you think,” she said with a soft smile. “I went through something similar when I was young.”
You were shocked. “You? Really?” you asked, incredulous. You had never imagined your mother in a similar situation.
She nodded, settling herself better on the bed. There was a sparkle in her eyes, as if she was remembering a fragment of her own youth.
“Yes, before I met your father, there was someone… someone who made me feel alive, who shook my world in ways I had never experienced. He was charming, ambitious, and yes, he had a lot of money.” She laughed softly. “But he wasn’t the person I was supposed to be with. It was all intense, but not always intense is the best for you.”
You looked at her curiously, as if you were seeing a side of her you had never known.
“And what happened?” you asked, intrigued.
She sighed, as if the memory took her back to those days. “In the end, I realized I couldn’t live in that whirlwind. There was a lot of fire, but not enough to build something lasting. And then your father came along. He was different. Calmer, more stable… but real. And I realized that was what I needed.”
You couldn’t help but smile. “So you had a rich boyfriend too, that you left for love?.” you joked, trying to lighten the conversation.
Your mother laughed, the warm sound filling the room. “It seems like it’s a tradition, doesn’t it?” she replied humorously. “But money isn’t everything, honey. Love is a crazy thing. Sometimes it takes you down paths you don’t expect, and other times it makes you see that what you really need is right in front of you, even if it’s not what you had imagined.”
You stayed silent, reflecting on her words. It was strange to think of your mother going through something similar, but it also made you feel less alone. Maybe you weren’t the only one who had felt that confusion, that forbidden attraction that seemed to have no way out.
“So what do I do?” you finally asked, seeking advice.
She looked at you tenderly and stroked your hair. “Do what you feel is right for you. Don’t punish yourself for feeling, but don’t lose yourself in something that could hurt you either. Sometimes walking away is the hardest thing, but also the most necessary thing.
You nodded slowly, feeling the weight on your chest lighten for a moment at least. Maybe, given time, you could find your own path, one that didn’t leave you trapped between what you wanted and what was right.

I love hearing Morfydd's insight into Galadriel and her understanding of her development. She has described her as an "atomic bomb", how great is her power that if unleashed would be devastating. And I think that's an interesting take particularly when she says that "nobody in Tolkien's world is meant to be alone." She was saying this in reference to her relationship Halbrand. That they were created by a greater power to be each other's counterparts could be suggested. And at the very least there is the idea that together they are akin to a key and lock, the fuel to a flame. I think that the eruption of Oroduin and creation of Mordor is the looming metaphor here. What I believe the show has touched upon and which is cause for great debate is the question of Galadriel's autonomy in their union. And I don't think there is a question that she wants it. She "greatly desires" it. And her clear-eyed unequivocal refusal of it isn't based on some moral high ground. She isn't actively choosing right over wrong in those stringent terms. Morfydd has said that Galadriel resists Sauron's temptation because she places the safety and wellness of Middle Earth over her own desires and that struggle is a constant, never ending battle she fights within. It's not so much she turns from her darkness as she pulls herself from the brink of self-destruction. This is a fascinating perspective because what she’s describing is Galadriel’s addiction to power. Morfydd had said that Galadriel refusing Sauron's proposal was rooted in her realization that her pursuit had become "dangerous for others." And ultimately that gave her the strength to put aside her desire for power and for the man offering those dark promises. For now.
This is not the same as Galadriel renouncing her ambitions, her passion or her attraction to the darkness. This is her suppressing it. But in order for her to maintain that fortitude, she has to consciously come to terms with that part of herself. She has to admit that: Yes, I want this. Yes, I want him. I want the entire world. I think it is an addiction and one she’s unlikely to master until she faces her fear. Until then, she is satisfying her thirst with sea water.
First, let’s dissect Galadriel's misguided belief that she can achieve the power she wants without intersecting paths with Sauron, that she can skirt that line and remain pure of his influence. The conclusion is no. She cannot. To start, there’s her ring. The ring meant for her and which she chooses to bear. Some have said that Nenya is free of Sauron's influence, which is an interesting take. But the show (and text) has repeatedly shown, and the actors themselves have said, that the elven rings carry his mark. Look at the very moment the mithril is dropped into the molten alloy. It is a seed that takes root. The seed of Sauron. And Galadriel is more than complicit. It was her idea to continue the rings' making after Sauron had already left Eregion. It was Galadriel who still offers her dagger. It was her sacrifice. It was her idea to make the Three, as if dividing it somehow mitigates the meaning and significance of Sauron’s intent when he had designs for a pair. One for a queen and the other for her king. Sauron gifted the seeds. Galadriel planted them when she attempted to bury the truth about Halbrand's identity.
And Sauron indeed left his mark upon them. Look at the symbolism here in this gif: it quite literally shows the rings staining the stone underneath them.
Next we see Galadriel. Observe her face:
She's looking upon those rings, into his Eye and smiling. She feels the power. But importantly, she feels him. The rush that Adar had described. The look on her face is loving, intimate and sated. She almost looks like a proud mother.
And then it morphs from a stain, into the Eye and behind that Eye, the fires of Mordor where the One ring is later forged. This is his vision laid out. The beginning and the end. Then, the shot reveals the Dark Lord’s face. Halbrand. And he’s smiling back. He sees her. A small victory won.
I think the fascinating story behind these two beside their cosmic connection is the constant theme of being seen, of looking at the other and their alternating mistakes and ability at being able to see the truth from delusion and the lies. From seeing into each other's minds and not knowing if they are gazing through a window or at a mirror. But still, Galadriel cannot look away. This is the truth of Galadriel that Sauron knows all too well. Eventually she cannot resist the urge to see. That's why he leaves the door to his mind open. Because Galadriel's greatest folly (and I hope the writers in season 3 show this more explicitly) is thinking that her superpower is her ability to keep herself from the precipice without falling over. Of thinking she can solve the labyrinth. Is Galadriel there yet? Uh. No. She is tested in the Third Age where she experiences a catharsis. But that is not the Galadriel that we see in the 2nd season of ROP. Let's start with the opening sequence where we see Galadriel pursuing Elrond. She appears fiendish and obsessed. It looks familiar:
It's a call forward to Arwen's flight from the ringwraiths from the movie FOTR. But I don't think the director is implying Galadriel is at all like a ringwraith. The showrunners have said that Galadriel is a parallel figure to Frodo. And where Arwen is trying to protect Frodo from the Nazgul, her father, Elrond was trying to protect Galadriel from herself. Again, the theme of being able to see and know yourself. We recall that Elrond has observed Halbrand and Galadriel together. He witnessed their bond and he has seen the way Galadriel looks at the rings. It connects them. There is a depth of feeling there that at first he believes to be nothing but a well of darkness and despair. He even says as much to Cirdan. But I think there is a revelation that he reaches towards the end that we may have overlooked. Look at Galadriel when she has Nenya returned to her.
She is the only one who does this when she wears a ring of power. It is because it was meant for her. Moreover, the thread that connects them spans an ocean of feeling and power that no person can hope to sever except the two people whom it binds. I think Elrond has this epiphany here:
His solemn look is more than just realizing that he will need to use the ring to save his friend. It is realizing the truth that the bond that ties them would also protect her. When Galadriel asks Sauron if he wants to “heal her,” she fortells this moment. And whether or not Sauron knows this is a mystery. However, the audience (and Elrond) can reasonably conclude 2 things 1) it was not Sauron’s wish to harm Galadriel and 2) he had always planned to mark her with the crown of Morgoth. And Elrond now seeing the bigger picture knows that to in order to save Galadriel, he must put the missing puzzle piece, Nenya in its intended place. He has put the pieces back on the chessboard and let Sauron win this match because what Elrond now understands is that Galadriel’s death was not apart of his design. It never will be. And so they must venture deeper into his labyrinth.
Elrond has always had suspicions regarding the nature and depth Galadriel's feelings for Halbrand. He has worn Nenya and through it, can probably can sense, to some degree, the nature and depth of Sauron's feelings as well. Furthermore, Elrond is now privy to have witnesed two violent confrontations she has had with Sauron both in which she lived. The Dark Lord spared her twice. Elrond is shrewd enough to infer now, that however dark the shadow that envelops their relationship, Sauron would never extinguish her light. He would never kill her. And whatever magic that intertwines them will also preserve and sustain her. Her curse is also her remedy. This is part of the answer to the question he asks Cirdan earlier in the season: "What is beauty, when it is born in part of evil?" It is the somber knowledge he finally understands and must accept about the Dark Lord. He loves her. And for better or worse, those seeds have borne something beautiful in defiance of death. That is the ultimate tragedy of it all. They will cycle countless times through life and death, light and dark. Being able to feel the fleeting warmth and the shadow of each other, the pull of the fall and rush of its power with Galadriel never allowing herself to completely succumb to it or be liberated from it. It takes on a new melancholy when Galadriel says to Frodo in FOTR, "to bear a ring of power is to be alone." Not just because no one will ever understand or be able to bear the cross she must carry. Not just because those who dare to be close to a ringbearer could be harmed in its inevitable wake. But because she could never be reunited with the one being who is its intended mate. Because such a joining would be euphoric and cataclysmic at once. Some often cite the Virgin Mary as the inspiration of Galadriel. But to me, her journey on the show more closely resembles Eve in the Garden of Eden. Nenya is the fruit. So great is their ambition and desire that they would forgo eternal paradise in order to touch the darkness.

The morning light was barely creeping into the room when she woke up, still nestled in Charles’ arms. His breathing was soft and steady, his face nuzzled into her neck. She’d almost forgotten how they’d ended up herewrapped up in each other after a night of celebrations that neither of them seemed eager to end.
But her peaceful morning was interrupted by her phone vibrating almost nonstop on the bedside table. She groaned softly, trying to ignore it, but the constant buzzing wasn’t easy to ignore.
Careful not to wake Charles, she leaned over and grabbed her phone, only to see her group chat blowing up with notifications.
Friend 2: "Morning, mystery girlfriend. Saw the video. Care to explain all those face kisses?"
Friend 1: "So… how was your night? 😏 Don’t leave out any details."
Friend 2: "Did he put that winning energy to good use? Just saying, he looked like he had a lot to celebrate."
Friend 3: "Saw the videos. You guys definitely looked like ‘just friends’… in an alternate universe maybe."
She stifled a laugh, her cheeks heating up as she scrolled through their messages. Her friends were relentless.
Friend 1: "Are you still in his bed right now? Girl. Spill!"
Friend 2: "If I were you, I wouldn’t even be checking my phone right now. Priorities, babe."
Friend 1: "Okay, so… are you going to tell us what’s going on with you and Charles?"
Friend 2: "Girl, don’t even try to pretend! We all saw the videos."
Friend 3: "Face kisses? All over?? That doesn’t look like ‘just friends’ to me."
Friend 3: "Not to mention that ‘just friends’ don’t exactly spend the night… 😏"
She sighed, knowing they wouldn’t let it go easily. Her friends had always been relentless, especially when it came to her love life—or lack of one. She typed back a quick response.
You: "It’s not like that. Seriously. We’re just friends."
Friend 1: "Oh, just friends? Because he was all over you, and everyone saw it!"
Friend 2: "Exactly! There’s literally a thread online about how ‘in love’ Charles looked hugging you. It’s adorable."
Her cheeks flushed as she read through their messages, her stomach doing a tiny flip at the memory of Charles’ face lighting up when he’d found her in the crowd after his victory. The way he’d pulled her close, practically sweeping her off her feet, felt like a vivid, joyful blur. It had been so natural, so… right. She pushed the thought away and took a steadying breath.
You: "No, really. He’s just… He’s just like that. He’s affectionate with everyone."
Friend 3: "Uh-huh. So why is the entire internet convinced he’s madly in love with you?"
A link popped up in the chat, and she clicked on it reluctantly. It led to a popular Twitter thread, where dozens of fans were posting clips from the day before. The first video showed Charles wrapping her in a tight hug at the barriers, his face beaming as he peppered her with kisses. She hadn’t even realized it looked that intense. But there, on the screen, it seemed undeniably intimate. They looked like they were in their own world.
You:“Come on, guys, He was just celebrating. It was a big moment.”
she typed, trying to brush it off
Friend 1: "A big moment where he couldn’t take his eyes off you. Sure, we’ll believe that. 🙄"
Friend 2: "Have you even seen how everyone’s reacting? They’re calling you ‘Charles’ mystery girl.’ People are actually dying to know who you are."
The messages kept rolling in, and every one of her friends had something to say. She glanced at the thread again, scrolling through the comments.
Fan 1: "Did you guys see the way he looked at her? I’m deceased."
Fan 2: "Who is she, and where did she come from? Because they are TOO cute together."
Fan 3: "Charles Leclerc just won in Monaco and went straight to his girl like it was the last lap of his life."
The more she read, the more she could see why people might think there was something between them. She and Charles looked… cozy. Her cheeks warmed as she replayed their moment in her head. She couldn’t deny that the two of them together, lost in the celebration, had felt almost surreal.
But then, she shook her head, dismissing the thought. Charles was just excited. It didn’t mean anything.
You: "You guys are seriously reading too much into this. He’s just a friend. Nothing more."
Friend 3: "Right. Just friends who look at each other like they’re the only people on earth."
Friend 2: "Just friends who also happen to be practically plastered all over each other. You’re not fooling anyone."
She let out a sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose. She hadn’t expected things to spiral like this. Her friends’ teasing was relentless, and while part of her found it amusing, another part couldn’t shake the flicker of doubt that crept in.
Could there be more between her and Charles? They’d been spending so much time together, and he did seem unusually attentive, even when he was halfway around the world. She couldn’t deny the closeness they shared, but… dating? They weren’t dating.
But when she glanced back at the video, seeing the unfiltered joy in Charles’ eyes as he hugged her, she couldn’t help but think… maybe there was something there. Just maybe.
But she wouldn’t let herself dwell on it for long. Not with her friends gleefully piling on the teasing.
You: "Okay, okay! Enough! It’s nothing serious. Just a friend who won a race and got excited. End of story."
Her friends sent back a flood of laughing emojis, followed by a slew of more questions, but she simply set her phone down, laughing to herself.
“What’s so funny?” Charles mumbled, his voice still thick with sleep as he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer. His hair was a mess, sticking up in every direction, and his pout was almost enough to make her laugh again. He nestled his face into her shoulder, his breath warm against her skin. “I’m literally right here, and you’re laughing at your phone.”
She grinned, scrolling through one last message. “Are you seriously jealous of my friends right now? I’m in bed with you, remember?”
He let out a dramatic sigh, shifting closer until she could feel his lips just grazing her neck. “But you’re not laughing with me,” he complained, a whiny edge to his voice that only made him sound more endearing. “I want all your attention, not just some of it.”
“Oh, poor Charles,” she teased, lowering her phone to look at him, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “It must be so difficult being this needy first thing in the morning.”
“Needy?” he huffed, narrowing his eyes at her, though his lips quirked with a playful glint. “You make me this way, you know. It’s not fair.”
She poked his cheek, unable to stop smiling. “How tragic. Do you want me to make it up to you?”
“Maybe,” he murmured, his eyes brightening. He reached over, snatching her phone and tossing it to the far side of the bed. With a grin, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her down and pinning her against the sheets. “No more distractions,” he declared, his tone playful but his gaze warm and intent.
“Charles!” She squirmed, laughing as he tightened his hold, a smug grin spreading across his face.
“Say I’m your favorite,” he insisted, his voice taking on that stubborn, whiny edge.
“Not a chance,” she managed, her laughter spilling over as she tried to wiggle free.
He only raised an eyebrow, smirking as he started tickling her sides. “Then I’ll just have to keep this up.”
“Alright, alright!” she gasped, breathless with laughter. “You’re my favorite!”
He grinned triumphantly, loosening his hold but keeping her close. “See? Was that so hard?”
She rolled her eyes, still catching her breath. “You’re insufferable.”
“You love it,” he whispered, his face just inches from hers, eyes shining with affection.
“Maybe,” she admitted softly, reaching up to trace a finger along his jaw.
Without another word, he leaned in, capturing her lips in a slow, gentle kiss that melted away any lingering teasing. His hand slipped to her cheek, his thumb brushing her skin as he deepened the kiss, warmth and affection replacing all the playfulness from a moment before.
When they finally pulled apart, he pressed his forehead to hers, a soft smile tugging at his lips. “Now, that’s how you start a morning,” he murmured.
She chuckled, her fingers playing with his messy hair. “You’re way too pleased with yourself, you know that?”
He grinned, pulling her even closer. “Just happy to have you here.”
After Charles left for his next round of races, life in Monaco settled back into its usual rhythm. The mornings felt quieter without him there to pull her back into bed, and her evenings held a little less warmth without his familiar presence beside her. Still, she filled her days with work, nights with friends, and tried not to think too hard about how easily she missed him.
Charles, however, was determined to make his absence less noticeable. His texts came in constantly—quick messages about his day, random pictures from the track, and even the occasional food pic with captions like, Would be better if you were here to share it.
He called often too, squeezing her into his schedule no matter how busy he was, even if just to say a quick goodnight. But sometimes, especially late at night, his voice would soften over the phone.
“I miss having you around, you know,” he’d say, a hint of a sigh slipping through. “Got so used to having you in my bed, it feels weird to sleep alone now.”
She’d laugh, leaning back in her own bed, wishing he were there to say it in person. “Is that so?” she’d tease, although his words always made her heart flutter a little.
“Yes, it’s terrible,” he said one evening, his voice warm and familiar in her ear. “I’ve been lying here, missing everything about you—your smile, that cute little laugh, even the way you take up half the bed.”
“Excuse me? I do not take up half the bed,” she protested, grinning to herself.
“Oh, you absolutely do. And you’re a pillow thief, by the way,” he shot back playfully.
“Pillow thief?” she scoffed, a laugh slipping out. “I’m pretty sure you’re the one who steals all the blankets. How many times did I wake up freezing because of you?”
“Okay, maybe that happened… once or twice,” he admitted, chuckling. “But you didn’t mind, did you? You’d just scoot closer.”
“Maybe,” she replied softly, feeling a warmth spread through her. “Guess you’ll just have to keep missing me then.”
He chuckled, the sound low and full of affection. “I don’t like it,” he murmured. “I think about it way too much, actually… how much I miss having you here.”
The conversations always left her smiling, wrapped in a warmth that kept her thoughts drifting back to him more often than she cared to admit. But every so often, reality would remind her what this was supposed to be—light and casual, no expectations or promises. She tried to keep that in mind, even when he’d text her goodnight with a little heart emoji or send her random selfies, always making sure to stay connected in a way that seemed more than just casual.
One afternoon, scrolling through her social media, she stumbled upon a clip from Charles’s latest interview. Her curiosity piqued, she clicked on it, smiling to herself as she settled into the couch.
The interviewer was smiling, a teasing glint in her eyes. “So, Charles,” she began, leaning in conspiratorially, “there’s been a lot of talk about this mysterious someone you’ve been spending time with in Monaco. Is there a new girlfriend in your life? Will she be at the next race?”
At the mention of girlfriend, her heart skipped, a quiet, hopeful anticipation rising within her. She watched Charles’s reaction closely, waiting to see what he would say.
Charles chuckled, brushing off the question with an easy smile. “Oh, no, nothing like that,” he said lightly. “She’s just a really close friend.”
She blinked, feeling her heart sink just a little. The words just a friend echoed in her mind, leaving a faint sting that she hadn’t expected. She took a steadying breath, reminding herself not to read into it. After all, they’d never defined what they were, and she knew he didn’t mean to hurt her. They’d both agreed to keep things casual, to take it day by day without complicating things.
But as she replayed the clip, she couldn’t deny the tiny pang of disappointment gnawing at her. She tried to brush it off, telling herself she was being silly—after all, they hadn’t talked about being exclusive, and they’d never put a label on whatever this was between them. She hadn’t even thought she wanted one until now, but his words left her feeling strangely empty.
Later that night, as she lay in bed, she tried to shake off the ache. When he called, his usual cheerful voice greeted her, and she did her best to sound normal, even though the thought of just a friend lingered at the back of her mind.
“Hey, you,” he said warmly. “What’s my favorite person up to?”
She bit her lip, feeling the familiar warmth of his words soothe some of her unease. “Oh, you know,” she replied, trying to keep her tone light. “Just laying here, missing my favorite blanket thief.”
He chuckled. “Ah, so you finally admit it—I am your favorite.”
“Don’t get too cocky,” she shot back playfully, though there was a softness in her voice. “I still haven’t forgiven you for stealing my blankets.”
“Is that right?” he said, his voice dropping to a teasing murmur. “Guess I’ll just have to come back and make it up to you.”
She felt her heart skip a beat, imagining him back here with her. “Hmm, that sounds promising,” she teased, though her words held an honesty she hadn’t intended to let slip.
He paused, his voice softening. “I do miss you, you know. life just isn’t the same without you.”
His words tugged at her heart, leaving her conflicted all over again. She wanted to believe he felt the same way she did, but his casual dismissal earlier had planted a seed of doubt, one that made her wonder if she was letting herself fall for someone who wasn’t ready to catch her.
As they continued talking, she found herself drifting back to his earlier words in the interview, that easy laugh as he brushed off their connection as something platonic. And even though she tried to push it away, a small part of her couldn’t help but wish he’d called her more than just a friend.
When their call ended, she lay in the darkness, staring at the ceiling, her mind a tangled mess of emotions. She tried to remind herself that they were both free to come and go as they pleased, that neither of them had promised anything more than companionship and a little fun. But her heart had other ideas, leaving her to wrestle with the unsettling feeling that she was beginning to care far more than she should.
And as much as she wanted to ignore it, she knew that what she felt for him had become more than casual.

What is Love? (Mr. Gap x GN!Reader) Part 3
Part 1 || Part 2
CW: Minor character death, canon typical violence, a bit of gore, slight angst
Wordcount: 2538
Here is the third part of "What Is Love?" The next part will be the last one! This has honestly been a lot of fun to write.
Room after room after room, you’ve traveled. Each time a resident appears in your path, you ask them if they know where the exit is. It does not yield many results. If there’s a word for elevator in the other language, you don’t know it. And that, perhaps, is not aiding your search. Still, you persist.
Robin’s frightful nature doesn’t improve much over time. At the very least, it’s keeping him safe. He doesn’t enter rooms before you do and he doesn’t touch anything before you’ve confirmed it’s safe. Part of you is grateful for it.
“Could we rest somewhere for a bit? I'm getting a little tired,” Robin says gently after what's probably been hours of walking.
“Yeah, I suppose we should.”
Sparing him any additional injuries has come at a price. After the incident with the toys, you’ve chosen to run from many residents whom you would’ve had no issue subduing on your own. A fight comes with greater risks of injury. As a result, you may have depleted him of energy.
A tiny room, containing a couch and two smashed lamps ends up as your chosen temporary base. Before you allow Robin to sleep there, you check every piece of furniture to make sure nothing hides beneath or inside of them.
He tries to get you to rest with him, but you refuse. Someone has to keep watch. And you’ve come to learn your new body can work on two types of fuel: blood and sleep. You can supply it with one of them later and it will last you plenty of time.
For now, you slide down the wall, just outside the room and settle in a criss cross position. The absence of anything to read makes you wish you’d put in the effort to carry at least one. Perhaps you should search for a bag or backpack after you send Robin off.
Instinctively, you glance around in search of holes in the wall or ceiling. There are none. This is a little disheartening. Despite the way you last parted, Mr. Gap has somehow become someone you’re capable of missing.
Then you suddenly feel something poking your back. Your immediate reaction is to jolt up, crowbar held in preparation. Only to find that you’d set yourself in front of an open drain. Your void dwelling companion is staring back at you, happy with himself for startling you.
“Oh. Hello,” you greet him normally, as if your previous encounter didn't end with you insulting him.
“Human leave?” he asks.
It takes you a moment to realize he isn’t talking about you.
“No. They sleep. Me protect.”
This, for some reason, makes him grimace. Does he dislike Robin that much? They haven’t even interacted yet. What does he have against him?
“You not like they? Why?”
“They not fun.”
You expect him to elaborate, but he does no such thing. Similarly to how he explained why he hangs around you a while back. Because “you are fun.” Whatever that means. You shake your head in defeat.
“Me bored. You give paper?” you decide to try your luck. You’d even be willing to give him a few fingers right now in exchange for something to do.
He seems to be considering it. When he speaks again, you expect him to name his price, hopefully an organ you’ll have an easy time parting with and wouldn’t take long to heal.
“Me want touch.”
This is… new. He hasn’t mentioned any form of touch ever since you gave him that little lesson on romantic love. The fact that he now wants it for a reason other than curiosity makes you feel… odd. Restless, in a way. Like there are flies buzzing in your stomach.
“Me give touch, you give paper,” you conclude.
“Yes!” He sounds a little too happy about this arrangement. But there is no telling what he’s thinking, as usual.
You reach inside the drain and set your hand on top of his head. His hair feels rough and a little damp like the rest of him. You feel a few tangled knots as you caress it gently. Although he must’ve been expecting one of the gestures you’d shown him before, he appears intrigued by this as well.
“Not special touch?”
“You not stay what touch. Me give touch.” It is your turn to be smug.
The corners of his mouth drop and his eyes narrow in annoyance. Was he really hoping for kisses and hand holding? Why do you find that cute?
“Give paper?” you ask, now suddenly feigning innocence.
Still mumbling grumpily, he shoves a magazine your way. It’s impossible not to giggle at his displeasure. He really is bad at reaping what he sows.
You turn your attention to the magazine he gave you. This time, it’s a travel magazine. A surprisingly new one. It’s a little damp and the edges of the pages are curled, but the pictures still have vivid colors and the paper hasn’t yet gained that old, yellowish appearance most other books here have.
But when you look at the cover more closely, you hesitate to open it. It features a tall building. One that looks similar to the one you always used to see on your way home. Home…
You flip through it slowly. And with every page you turn, a suffocating ache grows in your chest. There are pictures of breathtaking landscapes, cliffsides, beaches, jungles, pools and cities. There are pictures of people eating ice cream, pictures of busy streets and local dishes, of bread and potatoes and cake and spicy sauces. You don’t even notice your hands have started trembling.
You eventually stop at a picture of a flower field spread over two pages. Purple flowers reign over half its surface and, above them, a deep blue sky occupies the rest. You can almost smell the perfume, feel the wind in your hair, see the fluffy clouds idling by. The ache in your chest is becoming unbearable.
“What wrong?”
Mr. Gap’s voice suddenly yanks you out of your sorrowful daydream. You’re surprised to find he hasn’t left yet.
“Not like paper?”
You shake your head. “Me like paper. Me want… me want to go where paper show. Me not go. Me different.”
You wonder if someone like him can even understand what you're feeling. He can go wherever he pleases using his little teleportation ability. Meanwhile, you're stuck here. Forever.
He doesn’t say anything at first. Perhaps he’s confused again. But then he declares: “Me good! Me research.” Then he’s gone.
What it is he is hoping to research, you don’t know. But Mr. Gap has surprised you before. Maybe he’ll do it again.
You try to push any depressing thoughts aside and resume reading the magazine without thinking too much about what you will be missing out on for the rest of eternity. You are mostly successful.
A few residents pass by, but none try to pick a fight, which comes as a relief. Eventually, Robin finally emerges from the room. He appears to be in a better mood.
“I needed that. Thank you for keeping watch. It helped me sleep soundly.” He smiles. You're not sure you've seen him smile until now. It suits him better than the constant frightful expression he always wears.
“Don't mention it.”
You set the magazine down by the open vent and take off, motioning for Robin to follow. It would not be wise to dally anymore. Anytime now, he will begin to change. You have to get him out before that happens.
He does as you ask without protest.
“So, um. How much longer until we reach the exit?”
“I don't know. The hallways always change. But we're looking for an elevator. And it's best we find it sooner than later,” you respond.
“I see…”
His expression shifts into nervousness. You want to reassure him that he will make it out, that you’ll make sure of it. But that’s something you aren’t sure you’ve even convinced yourself of yet.
“Do you like reading?” he asks eventually.
“I do, since I started living here. It helps pass the time.”
“My boyfriend also likes reading. He drags me to bookstores sometimes. His favorite are murder mysteries, but sometimes he picks up those useless self help books that don’t actually help much.” Tears glisten in his eyes. “I… can’t even remember what I last said to him before I ended up here. I hope it wasn’t anything bad…”
Boyfriends and bookstores, wanting to say sweet words to loved ones before you disappear. All of these bring back that awful annoying ache. The reminder they are not for you anymore. Part of you pities him and another is so envious that it hurts. Because he still has hope.
“...what's he like? Your boyfriend.”
Robin sniffles and rubs his eyes as he walks. “He's kind and considerate. Sometimes he can be a little exasperating. But that's part of loving someone.”
It is? In books and shows, they always show it as some sort of blissful feeling that melts your insides and makes your life perfect.
“This may sound like a weird question. Sorry. But how do you know you love him?”
“I think about him often. And when he's not there, I wish he was. And if he were to love someone else, I'd lose my mind.” He grins bitterly.
That sounds oddly simple. No flowery language or everly complicated declarations. Just wanting someone at your side. It actually sounds pleasant.
“Are you in love?” Robin asks suddenly, taking you by surprise.
“Why would I be?” you answer with another question.
“Usually, when people ask things like this, they're trying to understand their own feelings.”
“I've just been reading. And the love in books confuses me. I was wondering if it's the same in reality.”
Robin laughs. “Of course not. In reality, it's a lot more mundane, though you can still have romantic moments. Fiction highlights the good parts. But there's both good and bad. Sometimes your lover will eat all the cookies before you get home or they'll refuse to put on headphones while listening to music. But then when the jar is entirely full and the music is gone, you miss even the less pleasant things…”
It sounds like Robin really loves his boyfriend. You wonder what it's like, being that important to another person. Could someone like you have that?
There comes that ache again. You push it down, hide it somewhere deep inside yourself.
“...we'll get you back to him.”
Robin doesn't respond, but he smiles fondly.
Your conversation is cut off when you notice someone approaching down the hallway. Immediately, you prepare your crowbar. But as the figure draws closer, it proves to be someone familiar.
It’s Mr. Stitch. Out of all the people you could’ve been reunited with since you’ve returned here, it had to be this guy. And to make matters worse, he recognizes you as well.
“You!” he calls out and points. “Me know you!”
Robin quickly retreats behind you like a scared duckling running to its mother.
“Who they?” Mr. Stitch points at Robin next.
“They friend. You go. Me not like you,” you state bluntly.
Your declaration only seems to amuse him. That awful smile of his grows. “Friend? Me not take?”
“Me smash your head when you take.”
Mr. Stitch does not look deterred in the slightest. If anything, he seems more interested after seeing your reaction. You should've seen it coming, knowing him and how much he loves messing with people's emotions.
“Where you go?”
“W-what are you guys talking about?” Robin asks, growing more nervous by the second.
“Nothing important. In fact, it's about time we leave.”
You grab Robin by the arm and drag him after you.
But as you attempt to pass by Mr. Stitch, he suddenly swerves behind Robin and holds him in place. In your irritation and panic, you get ready to swing at him. But then you notice the knife pressed to Robin's neck. You freeze in place.
“You angry?” Stitch asks, for you refuse to give him the respect of an honorific any longer. He is loving the worry mixed with furry on your face.
“Let them go.” You try to sound imposing. You hope you do. Whenever you're about to kill someone, you play the innocent and sweet act, so they wouldn't see it coming. Intimidation is not your forte.
“Where you go?”
“We leave here. Go other world,” you begrudgingly answer.
“Me know where! You play! Fun!”
Your jaw clenches in annoyance. It’s getting harder and harder to think straight. This is bad. If you lose control now, you are going to kill both Stitch and Robin.
“Not play. Let human go.”
Focus, focus, focus. You can do it, you can get him out safe. You need to.
Stitch tilts his head, seemingly weighing his options. He must be entirely unaware of the fate awaiting him.
“You not play? You not fun. Me eat huma-”
Before he gets to finish his sentence, you raise your hand in his direction.
Go to hell. Go to hell. Go to hell.
Then you bring it down. All that is left of him is a pile of blood and guts.
Robin screams in terror and immediately backs into a wall. His pants are stained red, but he is unharmed. The horror on his face brings you back to reality.
“Robin, I had to do it. He would’ve killed you!”
“How did you do that?! He suddenly became minced meat. You didn't even touch him!” Now he's trembling.
You take a step towards him and he takes one back. The way he's looking at you has gone back to the way he looks at all the residents. You know why and yet, it still hurts.
“Please don’t do anything stupid. It's too dangerous to go on your own.”
For a moment, you think he's going to take off running. But slowly, he stops trembling and nods. Then he begins to walk the same way you'd been walking before Stitch showed up. You follow at a distance, head hung low and hand wrapped around your crowbar so tight that it stings.
You go the rest of the way in silence. He doesn’t start up anymore conversations and you don’t dare attempt it yourself. It’s not the first time someone’s condemned you for taking a life. But it’s the first time it has an effect on you.
And then you finally find the elevator.
It sits under an eerie green light, just like it did when you found it in the past.
“This is it. You can go home now.”
“Is this really the exit?” He steps towards it cautiously.
Before he's close enough to press one of the buttons, Robin turns around to face you. “I… thank you.”
He doesn't sound certain about his choice of words. Maybe he would've rather called you a monster.
“I hope you and your boyfriend are happy. Don't go wandering into anymore strange buildings.”
He nods, avoiding your eyes. Then he turns and, as the door opens, he says over his shoulder: “Goodbye.”
Just like that, he’s gone.
And you lose your mind.

Man, no wonder Stolas got literal heart eyes after Blitz did this. This was his "Harriet! Don't get on that train!" moment, the big gesture he so desperately wanted just so he'd know that Blitz really did care about him enough to want him to stay. He had been so sure that that was going to be the last time he ever saw Blitz, that the last thing he ever did would be saving Blitz's life, and Blitz's response was to fight against the chains dragging him away just so he could run to Stolas with a desperate, heart-wrenching plea not to sacrifice himself.
Blitz had thought for sure that he'd never be able to give Stolas the kind of dramatic romcom moment Stolas longed for, but the joke's on him and us, because even though we all knew he would inevitably end up giving Stolas one and were eagerly awaiting it, no one expected it to be like that. And yet, the writers pulled through for us once again, because there really could not have been a more meaningful and moving way for him to have done so.
Anything where Blitz actually said something along the lines of "don't get on that train", could have been misconstrued by both Stolas and irl media illiterate viewers as Blitz just saying what Stolas wanted to hear without actually meaning it (assuming Stolas even remembers that conversation). But there was nothing contrived about this, there was no time for him to have possibly thought about any potential romcom moments at all; he just saw that he was about to lose Stolas for good and fought as hard and as frantically as he could, just to beg Stolas not to take the fall for him. To not love him so much that he'd think Blitz was worth protecting with his very life.
And I don't even think he realizes just how much that meant to Stolas, to know that the man he loves would fight for him with such fervor, despite knowing that it was a fruitless effort. Blitz, without knowing it and without even realizing just how much raw, earnest, desperate love he was displaying, gave Stolas exactly the kind of overt and undeniable proof that he was loved and wanted that he had always needed.
Except that, as Stolas has already found out, that's not enough. He made his big gesture to Blitz and Blitz made one to him, and that's a great start, but love's not just shown through grand gestures and they're not what'll help you pick up the pieces when your world falls apart.
The smaller, softer, quieter gestures of love are what Stolas will need most going forward, but for someone who has received as little love in his life as Stolas has, who has suffered from depression for ages, and who has just lost almost everything (including his antidepressants!), it might end up being hard for him to tell the difference between what is done out of love and what is done out of mere obligation to repay a debt. Not to worry, though, because he'll learn how to spot it soon enough.
He'll see that sometimes love is shown by taking care of someone when they don't have the strength to do it themselves
And by taking them by the hand and giving them a place to rest when it all becomes too much for them to bear
And by catching them when they fall, even when you're upset with each other
And by being so comforting that they feel safe falling asleep and leaving themselves vulnerable next to you without any hesitation.
Perhaps the greatest injustice the world has dealt to Blitz is by convincing him that he ruins lives, when the truth is that the person behind his walls has a way of loving people that is so incredibly healing. Simply by being his real, honest self, he manages to give the people he cares about the kind of love they need the most, without even trying. Without even noticing how much his words and actions have affected them for the better.
And now that those walls have started to drop, his loved ones have been able to start showing how much they love and want to support him as well. I have faith that once Stolas has cottoned on to the little ways Blitz has been showing him that he cares, that he'll start reciprocating those gestures. The man is such a romantic and in the song Just Look My Way he even says "I can give you everything you need" as well as "and no matter what in this world I could give, it's not enough"; there's no way he won't eventually try to provide for and take care of Blitz once he's well enough to. He just needs some time to heal, and until then Blitz will be there, giving him the love and care that he needs to keep his head above water.
Tl;dr: all the people who said that Blitz would never be able to give Stolas what he needs in a partner have just been proven dead wrong on all counts, and will continue to be proven so.

Only now realizing it was a dream I had and NOT a post I saw on Tumblr, but a few nights ago I dreamt that Scott Smajor and his friend (who doesn’t actually exist/isn’t a real person?? My dream made up an entirely new person for the sole purpose of making him be friends with Scott) were doing a video where they went onto the world of Third Life cause it was released to the public (like how when Hermitcraft seasons end the servers IP addresses are released to the public), and they were just flying around. But for some reason the bodies of the players from Third Life were just lying around where they had died on their third life in game.
That isn’t even the strangest part, Tango’s body was found nearby Scar and Grian’s bodies (instead of Grian dying at the bottom of Monopoly Mountain and Scar at the top, they were like almost directly beside each other when they died?), and the dream!Scott got upset at that, and started to yell and say “NO! No Griango! Tango get out of here! You’re ruining the Scarian moment!”
So yeah. I had a dream that Scott was a Scarian shipper and was upset at Tango for dying nearby them and turning the ship from ‘Scar x Grian’ to ‘Grian x Tango’
I’m honestly unsure if ‘Griango’ is the proper ship name for Grian x Tango, but that is what the dream!Scott called them, so that’s what they are now

WHEN LOVE FADES
Pairings: Toji x Y/N
From this poll
synopsis: Toji’s relationship with Y/N was always a little tricky but Y/N still stayed even though her friends told Y/N how he wasn’t a good partner until he forgets their anniversary and leaves Y/N waiting for him at the restaurant for 6 hours, then when Y/N finally realizes Their love faded.
WC: 1k
CONTENT WARNING: Toji is an asshole, he forgets about your anniversary, alcohol abuse, A HELLA LOT OF ANGST, Fighting, Blaming.
A/N: Sorry this was so unintimate, i didnt have much motivation. Class has been really hard on me rn:(
I sat at a small table, a single white candle flickering in the center, illuminating the carefully crafted menu that lay untouched before me. The whispers of other couples floated around, filled with laughter and sweet nothings. I glanced at the clock for the umpteenth time. It was 9:30 PM, and the reservation had been at 3:00 PM. I could almost hear my friends’ voices in my head, their warnings echoing like a distant memory.
“Y/N, you deserve better than Toji. He’s not good for you.”
But yet, here I was, waiting. Toji and I had always walked a tightrope of chaos and comfort, his flaws often eclipsed by a flicker of charm. He’d sweep me off my feet one moment and leave me questioning my worth the next.
I poured the last drops of water from the pitcher into my glass, staring through the translucent surface. The ashy blue of his eyes would twinkle with mischief, the kind that made my heart race in ways I didn’t even want to admit. But today, they felt as distant as he was.
By the time the waitress cleared my empty table—half-heartedly touching her arm as if to say “maybe you should go”—I felt the weight of hopelessness pressing down on me. Had I been foolish to wait? To believe that today would be different?
Suddenly, the bell above the restaurant door chimed, breaking through my encasing silence. I straightened, my heart stammering as I turned to see Toji step in. He looked disheveled and slightly out of breath, his typical swagger dampened by the despair that surrounded him.
“Y/N!” he exclaimed when his eyes found me—first a flash of relief and then, confusion.
“Where have you been, Toji?” I hardly recognized the coolness in my own voice.
“I… I lost track of time. Things got a bit out of hand.” He ran a hand through his messy black hair, something he did when he was trying to gather his thoughts.
My heart ached as the memories swirled around us—the fond moments we’d shared, entwined with uncertainty and unfulfilled promises. “You forgot our anniversary,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady, but the tremor in my words betrayed me.
“I’m here now, right?” he said, and there was a hint of desperation in the smile he tried to muster. “Let’s make the best of it.”
“Six hours of waiting is a long ‘now,’ Toji.”
The flickering candlelight danced between us, casting shadows around the worn features of his face. “I know, and I’m sorry. I just… I lost track. It won’t happen again.”
But something shifted in my heart. Each year, we’d been caught in this carousel of doubt and affection, wit and sorrow. I could internalize this moment, mark it and brush it aside, but tonight, something felt irrevocable.
“The bill…” I started, but Toji cut me off with a wave of his hand, a look of guilt etching across his face.
“We can talk about that later.”
“Can we?” I challenged quietly, rage bubbling beneath the surface. “How many ‘laters’ do we have to go through before we face what’s real?”
His eyes flickered, and for a moment, I saw the man I fell in love with, his heart laid bare in the dim light, vulnerable and exposed. But just as quickly, he masked it with nonchalance.
“It was just a bad day, Y/N. We’ve all had them.”
This was our never-ending dialogue—Toji, the eternal optimist, hiding behind reasons and excuses, often leaping from the serious to the unserious, brushing aside feelings as if they were dust. And I, the craftsperson of resilience, sweeping them under the proverbial rug of sanity.
“Six hours, Toji.” I breathed, the hurt echoing in the quiet as I struggled to find reasons to hold on. “What if today wasn’t just a bad day? What if this is just how things are now?”
Toji remained silent, swirling the ice in his glass. It was haunting, the way he could make the space between us feel like a chasm filled with regrets. We used to dance around this exhaustion, always painfully avoiding the heart of the matter.
Realization hit me like a sudden rush of cold. Our love was unfurling like an old leaf disintegrating into dust. The passion, the thrill—it was fading.
“I don’t want to keep waiting, Toji. Not for you or anyone.” I could feel the tears pooling at the corners of my eyes, a testament to the years gone by.
“What are you saying?” His voice slipped, and I could see a hint of panic in his eyes.
“I think I’m saying goodbye.”
“I won’t let you go ma…” he stated fiercely, but even that sounded hollow amidst all the despair coursing between us.
“It’s not about wanting or not wanting. This isn’t working anymore. I’ve tried to hold our little family together long enough…” A silent pause filled the air, thick with words left unspoken. What once felt sacred was now fractured, barely held together by strands of laughter obscured by shadow.
Toji reached for my hand, squeezing it tight as if it would anchor him to the present moment. “Please, don’t walk away,” he begged, his voice raw and pleading.
But I needed to walk. I needed to step into the light of clarity, however painful. I wished I could splinter away his demons, sprinkle his life with joy and love, but you cannot save someone who doesn’t wish to be saved.
“I need to know I’m enough for myself first, Toji,” I whispered, wiping away the tears that had betrayed me. “Maybe one day, you’ll understand.”
With one last lingering look, I stood and slipped out of the restaurant, leaving echoes of what once was behind me, wrestling with the shadows of heartache, yet free from the chains of those delicious, yet debilitating memories.
I guess this really was WHEN LOVE FADES…

Ok ok ok. So. May met ai oon when she stole oom's uniform and went to school as her for the day right? And for May it was love at first sight but oon obviously forgot about it since she didn't recognize May at all! She's definitely going to be beating herself over that one once she's realizes it next ep.
Also it seems like oom was a terrible partner to both Paul AND May. Like girl did you even care about it either one of them???
Ok now on to the important parts like THE BATHROOM SCENE 🫠🫠🫠
Whooo baby *fans self* oon had been DESPERATE to kiss May again and goddamnit did she ever!!
Heartbreaking that oon thinks that may only loves her cause she thinks she’s oom but also funny that drunk oon was ready to fight her sister even though technically SHES the one in mays heart. 🤪🤪🤪
I think that’s it
-🤫
ps it might’ve just been me but when i saw the scene of May crying on oon’s chest in the trailer i thought she was dead. Glad to see that wasn’t the case 🙈
anon, i was waiting for your ask (i say as if i have any significant things to say) (and she ends up going on and on for 6 paragraphs, yeah, clearly nothing to say, dumbass).
oon did a lot of things while dressed up as oom, apparently. from picking fights to making people fall in love. we love the range. i find it so amusing that oon clearly didn't remember may from the past, but from the moment she met her in present day, she was immediately infatuated by that woman. i mean, she saw a pretty angel coming down the stairs and talking softly and touching her with care, and was immediately a goner. from my perspective, it goes to show how much lack of affection she has endured since school days into adulthood, to be honest, for her to latch on a complete stranger like that. but it's amusing, too, to see that oon's main rival the whole time was, * checks notes * oon herself.
we don't know enough about oom to make me defend her, but ever since that talk the twins had in front of the shop after oom came back from a flight, i kept thinking, oon is trying to support her sister bc she's clearly the most gifted of the two (not my thoughts btw, but we know how oon's self-confidence works) and the favorite, while oom is trying to fill in all the spots to make it look like their efforts and sacrifices meant something. pang herself said that her house felt lifeless and that she decorates her clients' houses based on the aura she gets from them and it jut felt like a bachelor's house, and jan says that's probably bc she wasn't into it. i don't think that was just about paul but about the whole life she built for herself (but then, that's me reading too much into it, too. sibling dynamics and the roles within their family group just fascinates me).
once upon a time, when i was watching ayaka is in love with hiroko, someone commented on the tags of a post that it was so nice to see women desiring each other instead of just giving off best friends vibes, and here we are in thai gl where women eat each other like their lives depend on it and let me tell you, oon has been waiting to get freaky with may for a fucking eternity, i genuinely thought she was about to combust on that car scene in the beginning of the episode.
and then she finally gets to confess and kiss may like she has been meaning to, and it's delicious! i've said this in the tag of my gifset, but i've been obsessed with that shot with oon lingering around may's throat as may kisses her forehead since forever. it's beautiful and intimate and honestly so breathtaking. the way they are both so into it and the clear desire? it was like gorgeous, i loved it so much. and the way oon lifted may up and put her in the sink? yeah, sure 'i've never been interested in women before' your learned all the tricks rather quickly.
it's honestly so sad that oon sees herself as second place. she was so confident during lunch with may's godawful "friends". i loved how she was direct and didn't look ashamed when saying she works in delivery and is also becoming an author. may had a huge influence in her confidence and moral, but when it comes to the matters of heart they need to be secretive bc oh man, when the truth comes out about the whole trial and kosol's involvement in may's accident? i'm sure it'll all be super duper fine.
that scene with may crying on oon's chest also confused me a lot when the trailer came out, because they were clearly in a regular bed and oon is dressed in a pretty dress, so why would you be crying, girl? and now we know. no one's dead, she was just very drunk.
#th: pluto#🤫 anon#pluto the series#such a good ep honestly#i also saw people who read the novel allude that in the novel oonmay sleep together while oon is drunk#but i can't confirm that and regardless i'm glad may was just super protective of oon#let them have sex when both are sober and the truths are out in the open

The sauna scene is so important to me cuz I feel like it shows so much.
In public (like the market or on the track) Fadel let's Style do his thing because going against him as aggressively as he might wish would blow his and Bisons cover, he needs to keep a low profile and although Style is ruining that, going against Style would ruin it even more.
He stopped himself from killing Style in the diner that night because a body is too difficult to deal with. A murder scene in their own lil diner is not something normal and would attract way too much attention (and cops). He also only let him in to drink in the first place cuz he didn't know just the fuckery Style was capable of. Fadel probably thought giving him what he wanted would make him leave peacefully, but when Style started flirting he realized this man is more then just an annoying customer.
In the sauna however Fadel has no reason to let Style do what he wants. They were alone and a simple push would have stopped him. A single hit on the head would have knocked him out (people pass out in saunas all the time, he just couldn't handle the heat). But fadel just let Style do what he wanted
There are plenty of times when Fadel was in a almost victim like place, unable to act and defend due to the situation he is in (thank you to this lovely post by Ropebuddykant , for bringing to my attention that both Bison and Fadel are in quite peculiar situations as assasins that doesn't allow them the freedom Kant and Style have)
So even though the sauna scene was the moment Fadel could have taken to finally say his piece, to stop Style, he didn't because no matter how weird his technique is Styles flirting was working on fadel. (Or he just found him attractive, pure bodily attraction)
Because the flirting in this scene was different. The slow sensual style threw Fadel a little of guard, but he clearly didn't hate it. Style even showed interest in his burgerplace and showed that he cared by mentioning the meaning of Fadels name.
Something had changed within Style to suddenly go from being annoying to defend his bruised honor and purposefully put Fadel compromising situations to this flirty and grinning mess to this clearly intentional courting.
Secriden made a post about how earnest the conversation Style and Bison had was and that after this conversation, Style seemed more interesting in what would make Fadel appealing as a romantic partner.
The sauna scene was such a schifting point for both of them and we see that after it Style gets more bold in the lockerroom (and overstepping the line, by kissing an unnwilling man no less then three times). He seems to actually make moves to shift them in a romantic direction. Even professing his love at first sight. Whether it was true or not, it sent a message to Fadel that he wants more than the cat and mouse game they've got going.
The effect the sauna had on Fadel isn't very hard to see. First, he puts up his guard in suspicion. His assasins paranoia prevents him from trusting or believing anyone, and maybe he also still feels a little made fun of by Style, like Style only sees it as some game. But then, in the locker he confirms that that isn't it (or not for the most part at least). And that (together with just how attractive Style is) switches something in Fadels brain, making him look back on the sauna as a good and sexy experience. And I'm sure we remember how that ended.
So I'm very curious how their relationship is gonna build in the next episode, since they seem to have gone over a certain threshold where they are now both interested in each other. With the teaser stuff for the next episode (fadel dancing), it also looks like this is the point where their relationship starts taking more after 10 things I hate about you
#the heart killers#the heart killers the series#fadelstyle#fadel thk#style thk#joong archen#dunk natachai#joongdunk#hoping style stops being an absolute nuisance and just becomes a cute one

The pain in-system relationships bring
I have a lover inside. I have an in-system relationship and I love my boyfriend to the death. There are pros and cons to every relationship type, let it be up-close far distance or in-system, I don't think it is fair to compare them but our mind still does. And it still hurts. I used to think I overcame that, but due to a recent turn of events I realized how much we don't get to have. Every single day I am reminded of just the sheer amount of how much we can't have.
When I am on the bus and I see a couple holding hands, whispering things to each other, giggling together... People asking them, them just being at places together, holding hands, people acknowledging their relatitonship. Them going on dates, or just living in their life as usual, doing chores and playing games competitively, or just casual bantering, showering together.
Or the concept of sex itself. One can argue you can do all or some those with your in-sys partner too, but, it is not the same way. It is not to the same extent. It does not feel the same, It feels less to me. I know it shouldn't, maybe, but we cannot control our feelings. It is different, it is valid, yes, and I tear up as I speak but I cannot for the life of me get this painful throbbing heart to stop thinking every moment of "what if my boyfriend had an external body".
I grieve, I am yet to finish grieving. We are on our 2nd year of dating and I am still grieving with stops and breaks in-between. How long will this grief last?
I think to myself, and my boyfriend too, he says to me; yes, we will never be able to physically hold each other. Yes, we will never have sex like other people, ours may just stay as an imitation and imposition of sorts and that's it. Yes, that may not be enough for our bodily needs and that is something we can resolve with other things. The important thing is we will resolve. It is okay to grieve. It is okay to wish for the impossible. But time will heal it.
It has to heal it.
We can focus on what we do have. An endless possibility of dates to be scheduled, our real bodies (not the human ones!) being inside and being able to interact with each other. Always having each other close, so up close that you can even read other's mind sometimes. Arguments almost never being a thing because you know how they feel the way they breathe the way they talk. Loving yourself means loving him, too.
I think to myself, this heart I have beats for people more than one. It beats the same time for both me and him. It beats, beats, beats, until we die. Until we both draw our last breath. When we live we will always be together and live together, when we die we will die together.
Thinking of what could've been possible if I had him physically is a tunnel with no light at the end of it. The only light that is possible is the light of death.
Maybe, just maybe after all those, there is an afterlife where we get to have our own seperate bodies and live our love to the fullest. I never believe in spirituality, but I wish to be proven wrong so badly on this. I hope some deity hears my plea and gives me just one chance, one singular chance to hug my beloved and inhale his scent all the way.
Maybe we love hard enough in this life, it can exceed physical realm's chains and feel each other more than anyone else.
I stay in this relationship because our love exceeds the enormous amount of pain it brings. And I don't regret any moment of that.

Same anon as before! Can you please elaborate on why 306 is where you think MHA started failing? I'm so curious because I've never seen anyone say that before.
No problem! To keep is as short as possible, there are two main reasons why 306 (when Deku leaves UA, start of vigilante arc) marks the decline of MHA's quality for me: loss of structure and loss of intimacy
Loss of structure
My Hero Academia's early quality can be found in the name: academia. The school setting provided Horikoshi with a structure for the story that helped keep it in focus. Every major arc since the beginning has been centered on a school activity, whether it's a sports festival or an exam or a summer camp. It ensures that everyone will have something to do, a tangible goal for the arc. But 306 ends that. The first war was still a school activity, it was an extension of their hero internships. But after that, the school setting ceases to exist. UA is still relevant, but only as a refugee shelter.
There is no longer a strong framework for Hori to work with, so characters start feeling like theyre meandering. The goals became vague 'defeat the villains' and 'save the country' when they used to be personal, like saving a friend or improving on a skill to pass a test.
Basically loss of structure damaged the plot.
2. Loss of intimacy
If I asked you what is the most iconic or impactful fight in MHA to you, what would be the first thing in your mind? Most people would say things like the Deku v Shoto sports festival, or All Might vs AFO, or Deku vs Kacchan (both of them), or even Iida-Shoto-Deku vs Stain. What do these all have in common? These fights are limited to a handful of people. They're intimate.
Horikoshi has always been more comfortable writing small battles. During the first ever big fight between class A and the nomus, what does he do? He separates all of them in groups of 2 or 3. During the summer camp, is it class A vs the entire LOV? No, he has them fight villains in pairs. It's Bakugou and Shoto vs Moonfish, or Kendo and Tetsutetsu vs Gas Mask kid (i forgot his name), or Uraraka and Tsuyu vs Toga. These smaller fights allow the characters to be intimate with each other and fully interact/ develop unique interpersonal dynamics.
chapter 306 shifted the focus into large battles with too many people and factors involved, and because of that characters don't feel like they're actually connecting on a personal level.
The best example i can think of is comparing Deku vs Shoto fight with the Shoto vs Dabi fight. These fights are identical in concept. Deku is trying to reach out to Shoto, who is consumed by anger at Endeavor and is destroying himself because of it. Shoto is trying to reach out to Dabi, who is consumed by anger at Endeavor and is destroying himself because of it. This is the most clear-cut parallelism you can get. And yet the execution of the fights are so different. Deku and Shoto are only focused on each other, they're having a personal conversation, we see them change over the course of the fight because of the other's actions. A genuine bond was formed.
But Shoto and Dabi were not just focused on each other. Iida was there (bc hori has to give him something to do), Dabi keeps trying to leave to kill people, Shoto isn't allowed to converse with him because the rest of the battle keeps interrupting, and the rest of the Todofam get involved. Despite being set up as a fight between brothers where Shoto could apply the lessons he learned from Deku a long time ago to save his older brother, it ends up losing focus. I don't feel like Shoto or Dabi feel differently about each other by the end of the fight at all. Dabi is given a moment where he realizes his family cares about him, but what about Shoto? We don't get to see how it changes him. The intimacy was lost, so their relationship falls flat and their development is underexplored.
If loss of structure damages the plot, then loss of intimacy damages the characters and relationships.
Thats longer than I thought it would be, so sorry about that. But yeah I feel like these shifts in the way the story was written answer why MHA has so many issues down the line. There is also the issue of the awful decisions made (killing the villains, abandoning All Might and Bakugou and the hopeful tone, etc.) which can't be fixed by pacing or smaller fights. But I do think those decisions reflect how the focus was more on 'ending the war' rather than giving characters satisfying relationships and conclusions. Ever since 306 came out, I could tell Horikoshi's priorities and writing style had shifted so I kinda figured the ending was not gonna go well. But yeah I never predicted just how bad it was gonna be😭 I wish he just stuck with the Heroes Rising ending, it would've been perfect (intimate battles limited to class 1A only and well-structured within a school work activity! thats perfection right there).
im really sorry the MHA fandom is having a bad time with the ending though. Let's just all cope through fanworks together, who even needs canon. MHA fans are some of the brightest and most brilliant ive ever seen. The fanart is god-tier and the fanfics are so fun and even life-changingly good. Like Horikoshi could never match edema-ruh's TWYUTD, that fanfic is actual literature. Thanks for the character designs sir, but we'll take it from here.
#i mean at the very least dropping MHA back when ch.306 came out got me to pick up BSD instead#funnily enough it's another series that i think has kinda lost the plot but i have fonder memories of it bc akutagawa is my blorbo forever#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#mha critial#bnha critical#mha#bnha#my post#bkdk#bnha analysis#mha final volume

If evil...why hot..........?
Guys I'm not yapping about alien stage this time.. Its Homicipher. I found this game out literally yesterday and I'm obsessed. So let me cover everything I know about it, if you don't know the game :D
I have only done the first episode or the first part and this is what I understood, if I am wrong on anything please do explain!! I am grasping of what I figured out yesterday.
( this sounds like I'm sponsoring this game. HELP)
So this game is literally "Romance with horror men." (and hot females too) . " The female protagonist, who has wandered into another world, interacts with non-human beings to decipher their language while striving to escape."
I like the idea of this game a lot, since you have to figure out the words and the language yourself, which isn't shown a lot in games. Which also adds the fun and makes you think. You have to learn word-by word. There are multiple endings with many of our horror males<3 so you can choose your favorite or have your angst. This is a romance kind-of game. If you take it as one.
The game starts off by the mc randomly appearing in this world (or Daydreaming?), and being jumpscared by Mr. Crawling(my bf btw...) The Mc wakes by near someone called Mr.Hood, who tries to help you but Mc realizes they speak two different languages. You as the player has to try and guess what he is trying to tell you, and you learn some words from there.
Soon after, you meet Mr.Gap. Which im pretty sure is some guy who wants to eat you. Since he appears time after time asking you "Can I have leg?" or " Eat your Leg?" Lmao. bitch I love my leg actually <3 Hes just some annoying guy or monster appearing. ( I do find him cute though, like in a cute I want to kick him
As you explore some more, you encounter a moving hand, that points to a head. Mr. Chopped!! (hes so baby)) Hes a silly head, he askes you to take him downstairs, & to picked up.
You go down with Mr. Chopped and you find this HANDSOME MAN. Mr.Silvar <3 He also teaches you words, tries to communicate with you (was kinda hard., but beauty does speak....)) you go open the back door. Which looked like some place to cut things up, and the mc is like "Oh😀lets learn more words like dora!"
When you leave the room, Mr.Chopped seems scared and asks you to stay with him. (Which makes me believe that Mr.Silvar chopped him up., but that's okay- I can fix him.)
After some more exploring, you meet (well he finds you) Mr.Crawling!! HE HAS SUCH A CUTE LILI LAUGH. HEHEHUSHE. If you already heard or know Homicipher. YOU KNOW HOW OBBESSED PEOPLE ARE WITH HIM!! ((and why people are guessing his tip color..?!?!?) Hes such a baby. & Mr crawling follows you!!
Oh and you get your crowbar.
You go on exploring with Mr. Crawling having some Kdrama moments, Like going on top of each other. (A classic) and things like that. Soon meeting Mr. Stitch, who I think wants to eat the mc, because she has blood. (I might be wrong since I didn't have all the words and probably got some wrong.)) Mr. Crawling and Mr. Stitch argue for sometime while the Mc has no clue what they were saying. (Little did she know that, Mr. Stitch wants to eat her.. lmao)
The Mc wants to find an exit, she wants to go back to the Human world. She tries to ask Mr. Crawling about where an exit is or how to say exit. But the language barrier was hard to ignore. What Mr. Crawling does figure out is, the mc is from an another world.
Ms. Blue-Clad is someone you also encounter, The Mc finds her crying and Mr. Crawling does explain that she was crying due to her losing her shoe. The Mc finds her shoe in a vent place, that she reaches for the shoe with her crowbar. When you show Ms.Blue-Clad she is very happy. She scared me when I saw her face but its okay, shes cute.
Oh and you also find Mr. Masque after sometime. He wastes your time by showing Mr. Crawling and the Mc some magic tricks. I will say though he has a really good design.
And more exploring and learning word, the Mc clothes get wet due to water. And this divine lady appears. OMMGOGGGM. Shes called 'The bride" and you learnt that she loves clothes and gives clothes around. So the Mc gets a pretty white dress from her. She appeared and left so quicky 💔 I hope she comes back
I didn't meet anyone else yet, but there was this red guy that Mr Crawling protects you from. And I died once because of this TV. I think he was called Mr.Scarletella ? and omg. I think hes my favorite just by looking at him barley. I have seen edits... I have seen the things you guys do. And he looks very pretty. I did stop around the cellphone area since I was playing for awhile. This was mostly a yapping of my understanding of the game of the moment. When I fully finish the game, I make some deep talks about each of them. Thanks for reading this mess lmao!! (Feel free to spoil stuff, I dont mind.

I need to ramble about my favorite moment in Slay the Princess!
Huge Spoilers Ahead! Do not read if haven't played the game and ever plan to in the future!
(Spoilers specifically for the Happily Ever After and the end of the game.)
In Slay the Princess, you begin in the woods with someone in your head known only as The Narrator. The Narrator informs you that there's a princess locked in the basement of a cabin and you need to slay her.
In every path you go down, the narrator is constantly trying to convince you to slay the Princess. But you don't have to do it. There are other options. Other paths that you can take that lead to different results.
Through the game, it's revealed that each version of the Princess you encounter is part of a being called The Shifting Mound, which represents change and destruction. The narrator is an echo of a mortal man who wanted to make a world without death. He was so committed to this ideology, to making a world where no one would ever die again, that he gave his own life for the cause. The narrators you interact with in each run are just imitations following out his dying wish... making sure that you Slay the Princess.
Once she's gone, everyone will get to exist exactly as they are. No more fear, no more howling chaos. Just life. Forever.
If you could successfully kill the Princess without dying, you're given the "good ending". You are "rewarded" with the Narrator's idea of perfection. You get to stay in the cabin. Forever. In a world unchanging, unending. Where you need not eat or sleep. A life endlessly prolonged.
While the narrator tells you that this is great, it's obviously not and the game encourages you to take your own life to continue, with one of the voices in your head sensing that it wouldn't be the end for you.
This brings me to the Happily Ever After scenario!
This happens down a route where you fall in love with a version of the Princess called The Damsel. After unshackling her, you can convince her to stay with you in the Cabin.
The Cabin is transformed into a palace fit for a Princess.
But there's a problem. Neither of you are actually happy with your happily ever after. All the meals you share together gradually get worse. You grow bored of all the games you play.
It's miserable. She's miserable trying to make things work and pretend like everything is okay when what she really wants is to finally be free.
She asks to dance with you under the stars, and even the narrator seems to accept it.
When asked about why he's okay with it after he claimed her leaving the cabin would end the world, he replies with this line:
I've seen my fairy-tale ending, and I think there might be worse things than the end of the world.
The significance of this line may not be apparent on the first playthrough of the game, but what he's saying is actually pretty incredible character development.
This is an echo of a man who gave up his life to end death. If he failed at his goal, his sacrifice would be meaningless.
When he encourages them to leave, I don't think it's just because he was moved for the player and Princess's sake. I think this was a breakthrough moment and he realized that this fate was what he would have everyone in the universe suffer were he to succeed and change was successfully eliminated from the world.
This was his dream. This was what he fought for. What he died for.
And it was horrible.
So he did the thing that he would have had everyone stop doing. He changed. He changed his mind and rejected the very ideology that he died for.
The Narrator isn't given a backstory. We don't know his name. We don't know what his life was like when he was alive. We only know his goals and the extremes he would go for to reach them. And yet, in this one time, in this one reality, he changed and realized the error of his ways.
And I think that this is really cool. It shows a dimensionality to the Narrator that isn't visible through the other timelines. They didn't need to write the Narrator this way here, they could have just had him stay as the voice in your head constantly trying to convince you to take the Princess's life, but I find it so important that they did write him this way in this chapter. Because it demonstrates the values that are so core to the game's narrative and themes, that change is possible for anyone. That it's a necessary part of life. And what better way to demonstrate that than by showing that even the person who sacrificed everything to stop the world from changing could change, himself?
And that's why, despite being such a simple line on the surface, this is one of my favorite moments in the game.

Lando Norris had never been one to back down from a challenge. It was what made him so competitive, what drove him to the top in the world of racing.
But when you became his teammate, it felt like his world had been flipped upside down. There was something about you—your sharp wit, your relentless drive, the way you never let anyone tell you what to do—that grated on his nerves.
Maybe it was the way you challenged him at every turn, or maybe it was the fact that you were so good, so damn good that it made him question his own abilities.
But whatever it was, you two couldn’t stand each other.
From the first moment you were assigned as teammates, the rivalry began. At every team meeting, you shot down his ideas and made snarky comments.
On the track, you never gave him an inch. It was like a game—who could get the best lap times, who could outwit the other. Every win you had felt like a personal affront to Lando’s pride, and every time you looked at him with that confident smirk on your face, he could feel his blood boiling.
And it wasn’t just the racing.
You hated the way he seemed so effortlessly popular, so always at ease, while you had to fight for every ounce of respect. You hated how Lando could turn on his charm and get people to adore him, while you had to constantly prove yourself, fight for every scrap of attention.
The tension between the two of you was so thick you could cut it with a knife. But neither of you was willing to back down. Every insult, every sharp comment, only made the rivalry worse.
You fought like cats and dogs, and yet... neither of you could ever stay mad for long.
It came to a head during a particularly heated post-race debrief. Lando had been in a foul mood all day, frustrated by a series of mistakes that had cost him valuable points.
You, on the other hand, had finished ahead of him again, something that hadn’t sat well with him.
“I’m just saying,” Lando snapped, throwing his hands up as the discussion continued, “if we had followed my strategy, I would’ve had a better chance at a higher finish. But instead, we got stuck in traffic.”
“Oh, spare me,” you shot back, rolling your eyes. “Maybe you should stop blaming everyone else for your mistakes. If you hadn’t been so reckless on that first lap, you might’ve actually made it out ahead of the rest of us.”
Lando’s nostrils flared. “I was doing what I needed to do to make up for lost time. You can’t just play it safe in this sport.”
“And that’s why you’re always so damn reckless,” you retorted, crossing your arms over your chest, glaring at him. “Maybe if you thought things through instead of just reacting, you’d actually have a better shot at the title. But instead, you’re too busy acting like a show-off.”
His jaw clenched, and the room seemed to grow even more tense. Everyone in the room, from the engineers to the team principal, was watching the two of you like it was an episode of a reality show.
The argument seemed to be escalating, neither of you willing to concede an inch.
“I’m getting tired of you undermining everything I do,” Lando bit out, his voice low and dangerous.
“Oh, please,” you spat, your eyes narrowing. “I’m just stating the obvious. You can’t handle competition. Maybe if you focused more on the race and less on your ego, we’d all be better off.”
The words hung in the air, and for a moment, the room fell into an uncomfortable silence. Lando stared at you, his chest rising and falling with every breath.
But underneath the anger, there was something else—something that felt deeper than mere rivalry.
And that’s when it hit him.
He was attracted to you.
The realization shook him. He tried to push it aside, bury it under more anger, more frustration. But it lingered, gnawing at him in the quiet moments when the racing was over and the team was winding down.
Every time you shot him a look, every time you won—every time you were right, he couldn’t help but feel his chest tighten.
He hated it.
Hated the way you got under his skin.
Hated the way your smile made him forget how mad he was at you.
Hated the way he couldn’t stop thinking about you.
But he refused to let it show.
The rivalry, the distance, it was easier to keep it that way. You were his teammate, and he couldn’t afford to let his guard down.
Not now, not when everything was on the line. But it was impossible to ignore the chemistry that simmered just beneath the surface.
And then, one night, everything fell apart.
It was after a particularly tough race where the two of you had both been involved in a collision with another driver, one that had resulted in you both being forced to retire from the race.
The night had been a disaster, and you were both too angry and too tired to deal with each other properly.
You were in the team’s garage, standing by your car, trying to cool off before heading back to the hotel. Lando was pacing nearby, his hands running through his hair, frustration radiating off him in waves.
“You know, I’m getting sick of this,” Lando muttered under his breath, looking over at you. “You always think you’re so much better than me, like I don’t know what I’m doing.”
You snapped back immediately. “You’re the one who keeps making excuses for your mistakes, Lando. Don’t act like I’m the problem.”
It was like a switch flipped.
The tension between you had been building for months, but now it was all coming to a head. Lando strode over to you, his jaw clenched and his fists at his sides.
“You want to know the truth?” Lando’s voice was low, almost a growl. “I don’t hate you. I never have. I’m not angry because you’re better than me or because I’m some childish idiot. I’m angry because I can’t stand how *much* I care about you. You drive me crazy, Y/N. I hate that I want to make this work with you so badly.”
You stood frozen, shock overtaking your features. Your heart raced, but you couldn’t form the words. He was right in front of you, and everything you had tried to ignore, all the feelings you had buried deep down, were suddenly surfacing.
“I’ve been pushing you away because I can’t handle it,” Lando continued, his voice cracking slightly. “I’ve been afraid to admit that I want something more. Something with you.
But I’m not going to do that anymore. I can’t keep pretending.”
You were speechless for a long moment. This wasn’t the Lando you knew—the cocky, confident racer. This was raw, vulnerable Lando. The one who was afraid of losing everything. And in that moment, you realized you’d been afraid of the same thing.
But the truth hit you hard. You didn’t want to push him away anymore either.
You couldn’t.
“I’m not afraid anymore,” you whispered, taking a step toward him. “I’m not afraid to feel something for you.”
Lando’s eyes softened as he took a step closer. And then, with a surge of emotion, he kissed you—not out of competition, but because, despite everything, he had always loved you.
It wasn’t easy, but slowly, things started to change. From enemies to something more, the shift was gradual, but undeniable. No longer was there bitterness, no longer was there rivalry. Instead, there was partnership, trust, and the possibility of something more.
And it was in that moment, on the track and off, that you finally realized: what you had wasn’t just about racing.
It was about you two.
Together.
Thank you for reading!

I think I’ve landed somewhere in the middle on how much Stolas was *consciously* increasing the Imp/Demon Royalty divide? On the one hand he could just be playing it up and getting real into character because he’s a dramatic bitch, on the other he seems to be speaking directly to the camera and choosing his words carefully for maximum potential and words are kind of his thing. And while his acceptance of people throwing stuff on him could be just how sad and in shock he is, but he says “It’s fine” with like an acceptance that just makes me think he knew what he was doing he just didn’t expect to live to face the consequences.
On the other hand his confession doesn’t actually make sense, which I believe is just another way to point out his privilege, he doesn’t even have to make sense and they believe him over the Imp and he escapes execution by nature of his birth. I can read it either as on the spot improv OR a plan that had to be put into action sooner than he realized.
Either way, he was doing as much as could for Blitz in what he thought would be his last moments. Which is lovely.
I still feel like they need to pay off the Prophecy aspect of his abilities though, they’ve dropped enough hints and this would be a perfect way to do that?? But I think there are just too many things that don’t line up for it to be a neat and tidy theory so I’m holding back on that until I get another indication that there is a longer game. The inclusion of the Circus and Stolas coming into his powers doesn’t make sense without Prophecy coming into play though? Otherwise it’s just redundant, which is still possible, sometimes shows are redundant.
The thing about analyzing a cartoon show is it’s impossible to know what is part of the animation, a fun throwaway, a joke/gag or something to take seriously that will actually be a part of the plot.
I definitely see us doing a role reversal in S2, and some potentially rocky conflicts between them as a result because they have some walking miles in each others shoes to do and that won’t be easy either way, but I’m holding out hope that Viv and team aren’t going full dark/sad/realistic with this long term. A story is best when the characters go through the wringer and up and down back and forth but end up where they need to be eventually.
I might just write it how it could play out. if I ever break free from my self imposed Christmas Craft Curse and have free time again.
