Okay, so, I was going to write this in the tags originally, but it was getting long, and from experience, if the tags go on too long it just cuts them off.
So, thoughts are going here I guess.
Firstly!
Me, genuinely confused: People think Alastor's bad ace representation because he's a serial killer???
Tumblr media
What???? Excuse me?? 🤣
I don't know why I find that so funny, but I do. That's the silliest shit I've ever heard.
Heaven forbid aces do anything. 🙄
Secondly!
Your so right OP. Alastor is fantastic ace representation.
I agree with all the points you have above, but I'd also like to include one thing I especially love about Alastor's character and how it relates to his aceness is how fun and silly he is.
Murderous, manipulative, and immoral, for SURE.
But look at this man
Tumblr media
He's the silliest. He's fun. He's aloof in the sense that we no fuck all about it him and his motives, but otherwise he's so openly goofy and (as one person put it) "girly pop" which is a term I personally love.
So often, you see ace characters written as stiff, unfeeling, unable to comprehend emotions, and unable to navigate certain social situations (which is why there's so many comparisons/"ace representation" in robots and/or nonorganics).
Yes, aces can be socially awkward, experience difficulty navigating certain situations, have a hard time wrapping their head around certain emotions/concepts, (for me, personally, its the whole concept about people getting "hot and bothered" when they see someone they find attractive. You mean to tell its a LITERAL thing. People actually get hot and bothered? That's not just a silly little phrase they use? Ya'll temperature actually be rising?? Fucking wild!)
However, all of the above? Literally EVERYONE experiences them. Anyone can be socially awkward, it can be difficult for anyone to navigate certain situations, and ANYONE can have a hard time wrapping their head around certain emotions and concepts (see allosexuals having a hard time wrapping their head around the idea that someone doesn't experience sexual or romantic attraction when its such a normal and natural thing for them - like how the opposite can be true for aces (let's all remember, though, asexuality IS a spectrum!)
Back to my previous point, Alastor doesn't come off as stiff, anti-social, robotic, or unfeeling in any way.
He's goofy, he's fun! He dances, he acts silly, he's dark, he's complex, has multiple platonic relationships, experiences a RANGE of emotions in the show. He's well-rounded and dynamic! He's funny and entertaining!
As an acearo, I have never felt more connected to a character! I love the relationships I have in my life, I'm a silly goofy person, I'm socially awkward at times, sure--who the fuck aint??--but I can navigate situations that make me uncomfortable. I feel so many emotions, and it's not hard for me to wrap my head around the concepts of love and sex, because really, they aren't that deep.
Human beings are complex and multi-faceted, and its that that gives concepts like these their depth.
Just because I don't feel sexual or romantic attraction doesn't mean I don't read nor write love stories. I've written smut, I've written long, plot heavy, emotion heavy, romance heavy, smutty fanfic exploring the dynamic of a ship I like. Just because I, myself, do not experience these things, doesn't mean I can't understand them.
I've never been shot by a gun before, but I know it fucking hurts. I know it'll leave trauma. I know it'll take a long time to heal. I know there will be physical therapy, medication, doctor visits, hurt, pain, and ups and downs all to along the way.
Being ace-aro doesn't mean you can't empathize, understand, or relate to what allosexuals feel and experience.
Alastor has made no implications at being uncomfortable with other people relationships or love. He doesn't know he's ace, sure, but the only time we've seen him uncomfortable with the idea of sex is in episode 1 when Angel suggested making a porno with him, and even then, he didn't seem necessarily uncomfortable, he just very firmly denounces the very suggestion ("Ha! Never going to happen.") There was also the moment in the pilot when Angel said he could suck his dick, in which we got the radio noise and him saying "No thank you!" I'd say that radio noise is the closest we've got him with displaying discomfort with sex.
He's never come off as being weirded out seeing other peoples romantic relationships (see Charlie and Vaggie). He's just...not interested. That's it.
Of course, I've seen fan art, headcanons, and fic of him being flustered and uncomfortable witnessing sexual situations (love them, always reblog), and I can totally see and understand that for his character, but as for the show itself, we haven't gotten a ton of evidence that he's viscerally uncomfortable with such things.
All of this is to say, Alastor is fantastic ace representation, he's a fun, intriguing, well-rounded, multi-faceted character who is truly entertaining to watch! He breaks all those sterotypes about aces being stiff, anti-social, unfeeling people who don't understand relationships.
Him being a serial killer is the silliest, stupidest reason to claim he's not good ace representation. Seriously, what are ya'll on?
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
I know that some aros/aces are kind of disappointed with Alastor as representation, what with him being an evil cannibalistic serial killer and all. However, I think that Alastor is not only non-problematic aroace representation, he’s actually GOOD rep. Here’s why:
1. Even if you consider Alastor a villain, there are a lot of character MORE villainous than him—often with their sexuality being part of their scumminess. For instance, Adam would be way less gross if he didn’t sexualize all the women around him, and Valentino wouldn’t be able to be nearly as harmful if he were less lustful.
2. In contrast, Alastor being aroace is portrayed *positively*, often actively humanizing him—something extremely refreshing. Rosie knowing Alastor’s sexuality when he’s unaware of it himself is a huge indicator of their friendship. Along with Alastor’s deer-in-the-headlights responses to Angel Dust’s flirting, it also shows that Alastor isn’t as all-knowing and put-together as he can seem. Plus, it’s clear that even if Alastor is manipulative towards Charlie, he’s not being predatory towards her like THAT.
3. Alastor also breaks several stereotypical aroace tropes in a way that’s nice to see. He’s not a loner. He’s very good at understanding people and navigating social interactions. He’s happy to take on a parental role. He puts his hand on people’s shoulders, gives hugs, and happily engages in partner dancing. I’ve seen some people write Alastor as being uncomfortable with physical contact, but TBH I’ve seen him give (and comfortably receive) more physical affection than most people I know.
4. Alastor lets us get the great ace version of the “Your daughter calls me daddy too,” joke. Which i think is WAY funnier than the allo version.

Gojo stop info dumping on Yuta of all people about your failed love life, your broken heart, and your one and only, entirely unprompted. He's probably not as enthusiastic as you are about your Ex.
They had a rather memorable encounter that one time they met.

every time i watch anything with him in it (admittingly, predominantly from the Dropout app), i am reminded that Lou Wilson is the most handsome man to have ever lived. like, objectively. he just is. i will hear no arguments for any other person to be ranked higher. Lou Wilson: whose face single-handedly shows humanity can go no higher in beauty. he is THE most attractive man in the world. argue with the wall lmao

What men think women are attracted to:
chiseled beefcakes with abs where their feelings should be idk
Male/masculine coded characters I have actually seen women go froth at the mouth feral for on this app with my own two eyes in no particular order:
the fallout ghoul (in first place bc he has inspired the current round of this discourse)
an alien goo pile with attachment issues
the anthropomorphic personification of dreams who could theoretically present himself in infinite ways but most often chooses to represent himself as a goth twink with bedhead
a cannibal deer demon cartoon with a transatlantic accent
the fishman from the shape of water
some exhausted guy named harry dubois idk who he is he seems like he needs a hug but also like he might bite you
the onceler from the lorax (yes really)
the devil from the bible in various incarnations
honestly any male character so long as they're covered in blood a little fucked up and crying

Halves company
Danny had a big problem: since a couple of days ago he had discovered that he didn't look good in pictures. He wasn't a vampire so he was actually in them but his eyes always looked bright green, and the photos left an eerie feeling.
His friends didn't mind, and his family much less (they had gotten along much better after revealing the whole secret), the problem was that he was due to take a trip to Gotham soon and he just knew he would have some pictures taken.
A couple of years ago Danny had accepted Vlad's request to "start over" and together they had formed a research company that specialized in several fields, among them: the technological field, advanced engineering, space engineering, and different ecto-related projects, although the latter was not revealed to the public.
Few months later "Wayne Enterprises" seemed very interested in their inventions for everyday life so they wanted to negotiate some deal and dig into their technology. Danny was fine with that, he had created those things to make people's lives easier.
The problem came when Bruce Wayne invited them to a gala, he told them that the "founders" of the company were very elusive about their identity (neither Vlad nor Danny liked cameras much in those days) and joked that it was a shell company for some illegal activities and it was better to check, Danny was not amused about it.
He accepted Bruce's invitation knowing full well that Vlad couldn't meet the challenge (or be polite about it), but once he got to the gala he saw all the reporters and knew he was screwed.
Would it be better to be unsettling or not appear in the photos at all?, he supposed it would be best to avoid all the cameras and say hello to Bruce or Lucius, talk a bit and then leave.
It was supposed to be easy: walk in, say hello, walk out; Of course, his plans had never been perfect, so before he knew it he was seeing the Wayne "kids", and a reporter from the Daily Planet looking extremely nervous.

sam putting cas on bunker storage room #18 clean-out duty bc the nosy angel enjoys rummaging enjoys organizing and sam's confident he'll breeze through it overnight, but what in fact happens is that cas is a nosy angel who enjoys rummaging enjoys organizing & thus pauses 13 minutes in bc he finds a doohickey that he's convinced dean will be able to tinker with and revive (he does), organizes sure but does so into an eclectic system of apparent whim (he himself thinks it’s perfectly sound and logical),& then ultimately spends the majority of the night poring over decades-old receipts and smiling away to himself

(what gender do you prefer for a whumpee, not just generally in whump)
i know that this is simplified and doesn't include all possible combinations of preference and attraction, you can't explore a lot of nuance in this format but this is probably the most complex i can get within the poll options, feel free to pick other/nuance and elaborate in the tags or discuss in comments/reblogs!
e.g if you prefer female characters in whump and arent attracted to anyone (not women or anyone else) or multiple genders excluding women, pick the 4th option if you prefer female characters and are attracted to multiple genders including women, pick the 3rd
(of course male/female characters also include trans characters)

It's sad how people ignore/downplay Luffy blushing only at the sight of faraway Zoro to keep maintaining "Luffy is aroace"... when the evidence for Luffy being "100% aro" is not really there,
it's just Luffy (& Zoro) reasonably rejecting anyone suddenly romantically proposing to him in canon & Luffy (& Zoro) wanting to keep adventuring + having his style of fun + find One Piece. & Zoro + Luffy having many more meaningful, weighty experiences together & stronger attachment than average would make them liking each other more than just friends have a higher probability of happening than most ships with either of them.
& people keep "forgetting" both aro and ace are spectrums like why? I suspect just to keep Luffy away from Zoro?? (who's more popular to be shipped with other characters than Luffy due to being more classically appealing in a mature/less cartoony way, when Luffy is so much less childish & silly than he seems, he does have that deep-seated emotional maturity, like not caring for power + knowing how to motivate Laboon & downtrodden people to keep living/let the Strawhats help, & confidence + cheeky intelligence/sharpness to him that Zoro really resonates with)
I’m constantly metaphorically knocking on ppls doors at night w a big printout of luffy blushing bc HELLO? we seeing this???? from what I’ve gathered, it was only the second time he’s blushed (the first being when robin said she has strong friends). and it’s just. it’s a big deal. i will be reading into it. Insane. insane that he took one look at zoro from a distance and starting blushing like that. “oh he’s just happy to see him” luffy???? BLUSHING LIKE THAT!!???

But like hypothetically if I decided to make a series of YouTube video breaking down and rambling about how I think the first year trio encompass the full gradient scale of what it means to be “morally good” and how by the end of the series they have grown exponentially but their moral inner workings are so entrenched in who they are they never needed to change they just became more of who they already were.
Because initially Yuuji wants to save the world in that abstract way all heroes do, Megumi is only interested in saving those he can save and Nobara is only interested in those she wants to save. And all these are treated as morally valid by the narrative and not really flaws in need of changing but instead philosophies in need of refining and understanding.
Because Jujutsu Society as a whole encourages and thrives off a moral apathy or superiority, they are in the business of killing curses not saving lives and that ultimately raises the question of if you’re going out there everyday killing curses and inadvertently saving lives does it really matter the reason why? Or the morality behind it? Maybe not to you but to the society, maybe.
So anyway, hypothetically ….would you be hypothetically interested👀

after a lot of introspection and research (this is going to sound facetious but I mean it) I've settled on what my gender is: I don't mind that I'm a woman, but I have no attachment to femininity that means anything to me and I don't particularly want or need my woman-ness to be involved when people are identifying who I am. Like I get that I'm biologically female, I enjoy some of the social trappings of femininity like makeup and dresses, and people have to use SOME pronoun for me so like yeah. Most people are gonna clock me as female so she/her is fine. If I don't care regardless, why not go with the one 98% of people are gonna assume in the first place.
I tried he/him to see how that felt and I hate it. Gross. Doesn't feel good on me. I'm not saying he/hims are gross don't fucking @ me. They/them is fine I guess too but that's not the one most people are gonna default to unless you tell them it's what you go by. But if a particularly liberal person were to see me in public and just assume by the purple hair and piercings that I'm nonbinary, I wouldn't be upset about they.
So yeah. "Don't relate to or identify with anything really about masculinity or maleness but otherwise don't really care how my gender is perceived", whatever gender that is.

sure do love reading posts about how zionism is a special, different kind of colonization that makes it actually fine and okay :)
like there were a LOT of antizionist jews in the early 20th century. there are a lot of us now. and it’s not because we just don’t Understand the Complexities of the israeli political situation. it’s because all forms of zionism, from their inception and to this day, have all always been morally wrong. israel was founded with a massive act of ethnic cleansing and murder because there is no other possible way to move large amounts of people into a place where other people already live that ensures the people arriving have all the political power. there was never a Good israel and there was never a Good zionism. it was rotten from its inception and it cannot be fixed or repaired or cleansed of the blood it demands.
you can dress up your explanations in lots of long paragraphs but the actual definition of all zionism is simply “we get to force everyone who was already living in this place to leave or be subservient to us or simply be killed.” there is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time.
