Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Abigail
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on Abigail's MBTI and Enneagram pairing.
Abigail - ENFP 7w8: “The Opportunist”
“ENFPs are the campaigners of the MBTI typology. They bring good vibes and excitement that’s hard to ignore. You’ll also agree that their happiness and charisma can be infectious. It’s not a surprise then that most ENFPs identify as type 7 in the enneagram of personality.
[ENFP 7w8s] enjoy a good adventure and good conversations. They can also easily be the life of the party when they are excited. However, having a type 8 as their wing makes things a bit interesting, [creating] a lot of changes in this type of ENFP.” - Personality Hunt
Abigails’s Core Desire: To be happy
The core desire of the ENFP 7w8 is to be happy. ENFPs need consistent intellectual stimulation and external engagement to be truly content.
Bringing their ideas to life is incredibly important to them, and the 7w8 tries to achieve this by reaching their goals and getting everything they desire.
“The birds were happily chirping today. They're too simple to understand the future. It's better to be like them, isn't it?”
“I always loved this place, long before you moved in. Now I can explore the farm whenever I want!”
“There's always something new happening on our farm... I love it.”
"The sounds of the night are louder out here. I'll never stop enjoying that."
“It's pretty cool that we have a cave on our property. It's something I always dreamed about.”
Abigail’s Core Fear: To be deprived
The core fear of the ENFP 7w8 is to be deprived. Because they lead with Extroverted Intuition [Ne] ENFPs get bored quickly and easily if they aren't given enough freedom and flexibility to explore new ideas and chase after their dreams [both old and new].
Because of their fear of deprivation, ENFP 7w8s do everything in their power to ensure they'll never be in that position.
“Hey, this is my favorite magazine! My Dad won't let me have a subscription, so I have to get it on the black market like this...”
"Don't tell anyone, but I snuck into the old community center last night... I think it's haunted!
"I heard you've been exploring the old mines. That sounds like fun! ...I'm working up the courage to go there myself...”
*sigh*... Can you believe my parents were ever young? They don't understand my perspective at all. I know, I know... they grew up in a different era, with different values. It still ticks me off sometimes, okay?”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 7w8 changes typical ENFP behaviour:
New Strengths
1. More Direct
"ENFPs are feelers. This means that they use emotions as their first point of call. However, you get another vibe with ENFP 7w8s. While they retain their emotional intensity, they can now express these feelings directly and clearly. This can make the ENFP better public speakers." - Personality Hunt
Abigail isn't afraid to speak her mind or speak up when her values are threatened. Although she can come across as blunt in some instances, her emotional awareness allows her to temper her responses so that she still gets her point across without going overboard.
Examples:
“Hey. Sorry in advance if I say anything rude. I didn't get much sleep last night. What do you want?”
“I felt like making some soup for dinner. I hope it's not too disgusting.”
“I hope you'll still like me when I'm old and shriveled. It's going to happen some day!”
"Stop trying to make me feel guilty. I appreciate that you and Dad are helping me out, but expecting me to dress the way you want is ridiculous. I'm not a little girl anymore, Mom.”
2. More Likely to be Assertive [ENFP-A]
ENFP 7w8s are more likely to be Assertive [A] than Turbulent [T]. Because of their more direct nature, they can come across as opinionated or assertive. This can make them seem more determined and focused in the long term.
More information about the ENFP-A can be found here.
Examples:
"Ew, I hope I don't get a tan this summer."
"I used to think Pelican Town was kinda drab, but lately I'm starting to love some things about it."
“No matter how much we clean, the house keeps getting dirty again. I guess farms are kind of dirty.”
“Congratulations on the marriage. I guess this means Sebastian won't be moving to the city like he always talked about. That'll be nice. I'd be kind of sad if I never saw him again. We've always been good friends.”
3. More Disciplined
ENFPs aren't typically known for their discipline and following through on plans or projects.
Their Extroverted Intuition [Ne] constantly makes connections and seeks out new opportunities, and an idea that once had merit can no longer seem relevant or the best use of time, especially when more information and opportunities are made available later on.
Though ENFP 7w8s also struggle with procrastination and follow-through, this is reduced thanks to their 8 wing; however, the extent of their follow-through will depend on the strength of their wing.
Examples:
"I'm still mad that you beat me at the egg hunt last year. You'd better start practicing..."
"Feeling pretty good about the egg hunt, huh? Well, next year you won't be so lucky...
“Hey, the egg festival is tomorrow. I'm sorry, but I won't go easy on you because we're married! I plan on winning that egg hunt. Go ahead and try to beat me.”
"I guess you're wondering why I'm in the graveyard at this hour... Well, I'm here because it's the best place in town to find some privacy. And I'm all sweaty because I've been practicing my swordsmanship.”
4. More Ambitious
ENFPs are the adventurers and campaigners of the MBTI world. While they have big dreams, they don't crave financial success or riches. This is also true for ENFP 7w8s, but they realize that having money or power is one way to achieve the life they want. Thus, ENFP 7w8s tend to be much more ambitious when compared to typical ENFPs.
Abigail doesn't seem ambitious in the traditional financial sense, but her ambition is clear when it comes to making a name for herself: she wants to do something memorable with her life.
Examples:
“See? You understand why I'm out here, then. I've lived in the valley my whole life, but I've never really done anything memorable. I want to go on an adventure!”
5. ENTP Look-Alike
"ENFPs and ENTPs are cousin types. Thus, it’s only natural that they look alike. However, ENFP 7w8 will look a lot and behave like the ENTP to an extreme level.
They will be more rational, charismatic, and argumentative than your normal ENFP. Thus, a lot of ENFP 7w8 can easily misidentify themselves as ENTPs." - Personality Hunt
ENFPs and ENTPs have the same dominant and inferior functions: Extroverted Intuition [Ne] and Introverted Sensing [Si]. However, the main difference comes from their 'sandwiched' functions: ENFP ENTP
Extroverted Intuition [Ne] Extroverted Intuition [Ne] Introverted Feeling [Fi] Introverted Thinking [Ti] Extroverted Thinking [Te] Extroverted Feeling [Fe] Introverted Sensing [Si] Introverted Sensing [Si]
On the surface, Abigail may appear to be an ENTP. However, when considering the cognitive functions and their application between ENFPs and ENTPs, Abigail uses Fi much more readily to determine and defend her values and Te to implement her values in real life [ENFP], rather than use Ti to ensure her decisions are logically consistent and Fe for external feedback as to whether her logic is taking other people's values and opinions into consideration [ENTP].
For this reason, I believe there is strong evidence that Abigail is an ENFP 7w8 rather than an ENTP, though she does share qualities of both types.
Examples:
“Hey! I'm just debating what I should do today. I'm not used to having this much freedom!”
“Oh, that's right... I heard someone new was moving onto that old farm. It's kind of a shame, really. I always enjoyed exploring those overgrown fields by myself.”
“Disgusting... I love it!”
"Whoa... Where'd you find this? The workmanship is fascinating...It's a little too rusty to use, but I'll add it to my collection."
“Sebastian mentioned that he heard strange music while having dinner the other night...I didn't tell him it was us! It seemed better to keep it a mystery.”
“I may fight with my parents a lot, but I know they're just looking out for me. They're doing what they think is best. I dunno why I'm saying this to you. Don't tell anyone.”
6. More Focused and Determined
"Their wing beings a steely attitude to the ENFP. Thus, they will be more focused and determined. This might show in school, the workplace, or even at home.
ENFP 7w8s are go-getters and will achieve their goals or get close to doing so. You’ll see a clear difference between this ENFP and the stereotypical ENFP you have probably heard about." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“*sigh*... so I've been playing 'Journey of the Prairie King' for hours and I can't even beat the first level...”
"Hey, I finally beat the first level of Journey Of The Prairie King! Watching you play helped a lot.”
“Maybe I'll boot up Journey Of The Prairie King today... one of these days I swear, I'll beat the whole game”
7. Less Impulsive
ENFPs aren't the best at considering long-term implications when jumping into something.
Their Extroverted Intuition [Ne] is great at taking advantage of opportunities in the here and now; however, their Introverted Sensing [Si] function is the weakest in their stack, meaning they aren't the best at examining past experiences to help navigate potential pitfalls in the future.
This can cause them a lot of trouble and lead to repeating avoidable outcomes that could have been prevented with some reflection. Depending on the strength of their wing, ENFP 7w8s will be slightly less impulsive and more considerate of the consequences when putting themselves in a position that may lead to the loss of power or control.
Examples:
“Whoa, that's a creepy looking book... I love it! *Flip* *flip* *flip*... Ooh... It's full of monsters...I'll have to study this before going into the caves... Thanks!”
“If I knew how to use a sword I would be exploring those caves by the mountain lake right now. It's probably nice and cool in there.”
New Weaknesses
1. They Have a Temper
"Type 8s are known for being confrontational. So, no matter how soft and emotional this personality type might seem, they have this in them.
Thus, ENFP 7w8s can have quite a temper. This might only be displayed when they are pushed to their wall or when their feelings have been hurt. It can be quite scary." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“Hey, I heard you and Sam got together... He's a really good guy! We've been friends for a long time. You'd better be good to him, or you'll see my bad side!”
“Oh, it's because I'm a girl... isn't it? Ugh...Why? I'm just as strong as you! I'm not some fragile princess… I can take care of myself.”
"Mind your own business [Dad]! You think I should be at home cooking dinner because I'm a girl, don't you?!"
2. Manipulative
"This personality type will be more manipulative. Type 7 loves to have influence over others while type 8 loves power.
These two types blend to form an individual who knows how to control or influence people’s decisions.
While this is true, this does not necessarily mean that they might use this to hurt others. However, it is definitely part of their arsenal." - Personality Hunt
Though Abigail isn't manipulative throughout most of the game, when her marriage to the farmer is on the rocks, her manipulative tendencies start rearing their ugly head:
She becomes passive-aggressive, wondering out loud if she'll eventually get bored living on the farm.
She also asks if she could have done better than marrying the farmer and brings up her old flame Sebastian in front of them.
A low blow, if you ask me.
Examples:
“I wonder if I could've done better... I was very good friends with Sebastian before we met. He was probably the one...”
“I wonder if we'll live here our entire lives? I might get bored.”
3. Distrustful
"There’s a lot of talk on ENFPs being naïve. While this personality type loves ideas and wants to trust others, they can be especially distrustful.
They realize that people might not be exactly what they sell themselves as. Thus, this personality type might play the fool but understand exactly what is going on.
You’ll probably know where you stand with them when the chips are down." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“One thing I've learned living here... everyone stares at you if you look different.”
“I can't trust a person who doesn't like animals...Oh, don't worry! I know you're an animal lover!”
“Hey. I know you're smart, but I still worry about you sometimes. The world is full of monsters. Just promise me you'll be careful. I don't want to lose you.”
“Hey! What... you think I'm too weak to swing a blade? Sorry, I guess I'm getting a little defensive.”
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Abigail is everyone's favourite goth gf in the Stardew Valley community: she's outgoing, quirky, energetic, and marches to the beat of her own drum.
However, there is a lot more to Abigail than her renegade lifestyle:
Though her character arc isn't as dramatic as other bachelors and bachelorettes, Abigail struggles to find what many of us yearn for in our lives: happiness.
Though she hides it well, Abigail is deeply unhappy with her life and life circumstances. Her parents are overbearing and controlling, demanding she conform to their traditional lifestyle and manipulating her into doing what they want by holding financial support over her head:
"Stop trying to make me feel guilty. I appreciate that you and Dad are helping me out, but expecting me to dress the way you want is ridiculous. I'm not a little girl anymore, Mom.”
"Mind your own business [Dad]! You think I should be at home cooking dinner because I'm a girl, don't you?!"
Even her community doesn't seem to understand her or make an effort to. There are few people she feels she can trust to be herself around, and those are few and far between.
“One thing I've learned living here... everyone stares at you if you look different.”
Her Enneagram type 7 desire for happiness, paired with her MBTI cognitive strengths as an ENFP, leave her wanting more than what Pelican Town can offer her. That is until the farmer arrives and embraces Abigail for who she truly is: encouraging her to follow her dreams, and supporting her in all her adventure-filled endeavours.
“I always loved this place, long before you moved in. Now I can explore the farm whenever I want!”
Do you agree that Abigail is an ENFP 7w8? If not, what type do you think she is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Leah
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on Leah's MBTI and Enneagram pairing.
Leah - INFP 4w5: “The Bohemian”
“INFP 4w5s are very independent people. They are often reserved and detached from their surrounding. INFP 4w5 may also be interested in arts and music. This type is often on a quest to find their true selves. Thus, they might struggle with self-identity. There is often a conflict between logic and emotion.” – Personality Hunt
Leah’s Core Desire: To be unique and independent
"The basic desire of the INFP 4w5 is to be unique and independent. To achieve this, INFP 4w5 tends to do things they find fulfilling. Feeling satisfied and passionate about their life appeals to them the most." - Personality Hunt
“So why did you become a farmer?” Answer: It's more "real" than living in the city “That's pretty much the reason I came here, too!”
"One Summer, it was so hot during the night that I got out of bed and jumped into the river! I hope no one saw me!”
“I don't make art for money. It's just an urge that I have.”
Leah’s Core Fear: To be ordinary and insignificant
"The basic fear of the INFP 4w5 is to be ordinary and insignificant. They simply do not want to be like everyone else or find themselves stuck in a profession they are not passionate about. INFP 4w5 are afraid of not finding themselves." - Personality Hunt
Leah's desire to be unique doesn't mean she wants to be unique for its own sake. Her strong Introverted Feeling [Fi] need to be authentic coincides with her desire for individuality, to be true to herself regardless of external pressure or expectations.
This doesn't mean she's immune to pushing against the grain to stand out from the crowd or resist control, but it's much more of an internal battle between who she is and how she can contribute in her own special way.
"We had an apartment together, back in the city. I did odd jobs during the day and spent all night working on art projects... we barely made enough to scrape by. He was always nagging me to go back to school and study business or medicine... something with a lot of money in it.
I guess the idea was to save up for a normal life. You know... a house in the suburbs, kids, PTA meetings... that sort of thing. I wasn't ready for that kind of life, Farmer... I had to leave. So I came here to pursue my dream of being an artist.”
“But what if no one likes my sculptures? I'd be crushed...I'll have to think about it.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 4w5 changes typical INFP behaviour:
New Strengths
1. More Logical
"INFPs are feelers by their very nature. While this is true, INFP 4w5s will use more logic when making decisions.
Some INFP 4w5s might use logic when dealing with a particular set of problems and emotions when dealing with others.
However, you can just sense that they are not as emotional as [typical INFPs]." - Personality Hunt
Leah approaches life from a much more logical angle than most INFPs. However, emotion is still important in understanding and navigating the world. The fusion of both logic and emotion gives Leah a more balanced and holistic perspective when facing challenges or analysing scenarios.
Examples:
"I hate to be blunt, but if we don't treat nature with respect, our grandchildren will be doomed. Don't you think so?"
"... I just wouldn't have been happy back there [living with Kel]. It was better for both of us... to end an unsustainable relationship while we were still young and flexible.”
“Maybe you're right... Humans are selfish creatures. I don't know. I probably shouldn't dwell on it. We all have to make hard choices from time to time.”
“I made a little wood sculpture today, but it was so ugly I threw it into the fire. I think to become a great artist, you have to be critical of your own work.”
2. More Detached and Aloof
INFPs are naturally introverted, but because of the INFP 4w5s wing, they may be even more introverted than others. They often need extra time to process and digest their inner thoughts and emotions, making them appear aloof and indifferent.
It's not that they don't care, they just have a lot on their minds that must be contended with before they can be fully present with someone else. INFP 4w5s can appear to be INTPs in this respect.
Examples:
"Please don't feel like you have to spend all your time with me now that we're dating... I know you're a busy person!”
"Do you ever walk out into the forest... Pause... And simply enjoy the beauty of nature? It's easy to forget how incredible this world actually is...” “Sometimes, a strange feeling comes over me. My head becomes totally empty... and I feel completely at peace, even blissful. Hey, now! It has nothing to do with drinking wine!”
“Good morning! I got up early and did some mushroom hunting. Here, take one. Searching for mushrooms is like going on a treasure hunt. It's a lot of fun.”
3. Drawn to Academics
"The presence of wing 5 makes this type really curious. Thus, they often find themselves drawn to academics. Again, this largely depends on the strength of their wing. It is not a given that every INFP 4w5 will like academics. However, they certainly have some sort of inclination towards it." - Personality Hunt
Leah isn't interested in traditional academics like philosophy or mathematics but in various painting techniques and historical art styles. She also has books related to foraging and natural sciences in her cottage library. Her quest for knowledge is much more practical than it is theoretical.
Examples:
“You can use a tapper to harvest syrups and other useful liquids directly from trees. It's a slow process, but the result can be quite valuable.”
"The flowing water keeps my house a little bit cooler in summer. I can't tolerate heat very well.”
"Hey, Farmer... what style do you think I should do? I'm up for anything...Hmm... not my usual style, but I'll give it a shot. I'd better switch to acrylic paint for this one...” "Now, don't forget the techniques I taught you... broad strokes, hold the brush like so...”
4. Abstract Ideas and Endless Theories
The combination of an INFP's Extroverted Intuition [Ne] and their type 5 wing makes INFP 4w5s absolute suckers for abstract theories and ideas.
INFP 4w5s love having deep conversations and discussions; they are fascinated with endless possibilities and potential and can go on for hours and hours about them.
Examples:
“The shape of the waves here is awe inspiring. I wonder if I could ever capture that sort of formlessness in a sculpture.”
"There's nothing wrong with [natural wood]... I think there's lots of beauty to be found in raw, untouched nature! But as a human, I'm also interested in how we shape and interpret the world around us... I guess what I'm saying is that I'm interested in 'art'.”
"Do you ever wonder what it's like to be a different person? Do our thoughts manifest in a similar way, or is it radically different? Don't mind me, I think about weird things sometimes...”
"The flow of time is so delicate... even the tiniest decision changes the future forever."
5. The Need to be Self-Sufficient with Finances
"INFP 4w5 wants to be self-sufficient. Thus, they crave having their careers and handling their finances. They do not just want to handle their finances. They want to be great at it. Because of this need, they will avoid running into endless debts.
To them, being self-sufficient is one way they show how unique they are. They also don’t want to settle for just any job or career.
For INFP 4w5, it’s all about what they are passionate about and love." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
"I sold enough art at that show to get by for another year... that's all I needed!"
“If my art continues to sell online like it has, I'll be able to keep making art forever. That's always been my dream.”
"Maybe you're right... my life would've been a lot easier if I had stayed. Maybe it's better to be practical and realistic... for all I know my art career will never pan out and I'll live my final years in squalor.”
New Weaknesses
1. More Isolated
"INFPs enjoy their alone time. They love to spend these moments reading a book or just being alone. INFP 4w5s take this to another level. They can stay alone for long periods.
When the INFP dark side is strong, this can be a big problem. INFPs are one of the types that have issues with anxiety and depression.
Being isolated simply does not help this situation." - Personality Hunt
Leah spends a lot of time alone by herself. She lives alone in a small cottage outside of town and can be found painting or drawing deep in the forest or isolated tidepools.
While she does enjoy her time by herself, her self-isolating tendencies could lead to more serious mental health problems if left unchecked.
Examples:
“I've realized I'm happier by myself. So just leave me be.”
“Hello, neighbor. We both live outside of town. Does that mean something?”
"It's simpler to be friends with the trees. They don't have much to say.”
2. Less Considerate
"INFPs, in general, are known to be the sweetest people you can find. However, INFP 4w5s are a bit different. They are more likely to avoid people’s emotional troubles.
They are more likely to avoid people and the issues they bring, like the plague. This might make them seem emotionless or inconsiderate of people’s issues.
However, INFP 4w5s are still INFPs. So, deep down, they care more than you think." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
"Hi. Oh, you want to talk. Farming seems like a very rewarding profession. You get to create delicious food for everyone! You're probably busy. Sorry.”
"I found some wild fruits this morning! Sorry, I don't have any left. Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find something."
3. Self-Absorbed
"INFP 4w5s often seem very self-absorbed. They are often thinking about their interests and their future. Thus, they might not seem to care much about others and what they are facing.
This is largely because of their type 4. Thus, INFP 4w5 might seem like INFJs in this respect. While they are often self-absorbed, this does not necessarily mean that they don’t care. They just want to [understand] themselves." - Personality Hunt
INFPs have Extroverted Sensing [Se] blindspot, meaning they can have difficulty being aware of their external physical surroundings in the moment, including the emotions and reactions of others.
This can make them more clumsy or daydreamy, but this 'detachment from external reality' can also allow them to put all their energy and focus into a performance or activity.
Leah can be self-absorbed at times, but her self-absorption doesn't necessarily come at the expense of others' needs or emotions. She merely "feels" life deeply and seeks to understand what those thoughts and emotions indicate about herself and the world around her.
Examples:
"I guess everyone in town was scared of that strange rain? I had no idea... I just thought it was incredible!”
4. More Stubborn
"INFP 4w5s are much more stubborn than your normal INFP. This usually shows when their values are tested. INFP 4w5s will often resist any attempt to control them or make them do things that don’t sit right with them.
The level of resistance might be surprising to people who don’t really know them well." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“I'm still fuming about the picnic... what a weirdo! Let's never talk about... that person... ever again.”
"Kel...How many times do I have to tell you? I don't want to come back to the city! Stop calling me... I don't want to hear from you anymore!”
------------------------------------------------------------------
The INFP 4w5 Female
"There’s a valid reason to consider the INFP 4w5 female in closer detail. In the world we live in, societal beliefs often shape people’s lives. One personality that silently fights against the norms and beliefs of society is the INFP 4w5 female." - Personality Hunt
1. Sexual Preferences
“INFP 4w5 females are unique in their sexual preferences. Unlike other enneagram types that might be more drawn to one particular preference, things are different with them.
You’ll find them all over the place. Some will even identify as asexual. This is possibly down to their need to be different or unique. They also understand themselves on a much deeper scale.” – Personality Hunt While many of the other bachelors and bachelorettes have more self-exploratory dialogue depending on the farmer’s gender [such as “I’ve never felt this way about _______ before”], Leah’s dialogue by contrast seems to indicate that she is much more aware of her sexuality independent of the farmer.
Her story seems to diverge depending on which gender the farmer is:
If the farmer is a boy, Leah learns to overcome her fear and distrust of being in a long-term relationship with a man again. Some may suggest that Leah has a more solidified preference for women; however, based on the dialogue differences between male and female players, I believe Leah's choice to be with the male farmer isn't about her sexuality but about overcoming her distrust of men. The pain of being trapped in a traditional lifestyle she didn't want for herself comes back if the male farmer starts to show a sexual interest in Leah in her 2-heart event. These memories trigger her core fear of not being 'unique' enough if she's in a heterosexual relationship /traditional family again, causing her to lash out, calling the farmer a "pig" and kicking him out of her cottage.
However, if the farmer is a girl, Leah's desire is to assert her independence and 'unique' sexuality away from her ex, from which she moves on to the female farmer relatively easily without the same fears or obstacles; she doesn't chastise the farmer for their sexual advance in the 2-heart event but rather confirms their mutual sexual preference.
For these reasons, Leah's heartbreak dialogue is much more 'soft' towards the female farmer than the male farmer:
Male Farmer Dialogue
[Creepy Kiss] “You pig! Get out!”
[Multiple Girlfriends] "I... I thought you were different than other men...”
"KEL: Seriously, Leah... What are you doing out here with this simple-minded bumpkin?” “Farmer's a better man than you in every respect!”
Female Farmer Dialogue
[Creepy Kiss] “Oh! You're...? Me too. That's good to know.”
[Multiple Girlfriends] “You tricked all of us into thinking we loved you... You're horrible...”
"KEL: Seriously, Leah... What are you doing out here with this simple-minded bumpkin?” “Farmer's a better person than you in every respect!”
Stardew Valley leaves the romance candidates’ sexual orientation up to player interpretation [as do most dating sims]; however, like Alex's story, I believe Leah's story has a slightly different meaning on which gender the player chooses for the farmer.
2. Autonomy
“They need to be independent. With males, this is not usually pronounced because most males tend to be drawn to masculinity. However, INFP 4w5 females will be silently loud about independence.
Backed by their Fi, they’ll make their own decisions and stick with them. This is one reason to admire them.” – Personality Hunt
"Kel...How many times do I have to tell you? I don't want to come back to the city! Stop calling me... I don't want to hear from you anymore!”
“I don't make art for money. It's just an urge that I have.”
3. Creative
“All INFPs are creative. However, INFP 4w5 females are just on another level. Backed by super warmth and a natural nurturing spirit, their creativity just hits differently. With enough discipline, it can create a lot of career opportunities for them.” – Personality Hunt
"Good morning, Farmer. I've planted these in a little pot out back... I grew that with great love and attention. Enjoy it.”
“Do you ever get cold in that farmhouse of yours? Stop by my cabin if you want to huddle under one of my quilts and drink cider.”
"I wonder if I could make a collage out of dried leaves? They're just so colorful... I can't help but think of the potential for art projects.”
"I haven't named this one, yet. She started out as an exercise in human anatomy, but I ended up seeing her through to completion. Her expression is intentionally unclear... is she embarrassed, amused, pained? I'll leave that for you to decide.”
4. Intense
“INFP 4w5 females come with a lot of intensity. It’s easy to miss because most times, they are even more introverted than their male counterparts.
However, getting to know them will expose you to their rich intense world. If you’re not careful, you might even be overwhelmed.” – Personality Hunt
I’m not a 4w5, but as an INFP female, I can tell you with certainty that we can go from 0 to 100 REAL QUICK! However, most of us know how intense our inner worlds can be, so we do our best to ‘temper’ our intensity to prevent scaring people away.
But know that there’s no greater compliment from an INFP than to be brought into their rich inner world; we don’t share that secret part of ourselves with just anyone.
"It's simpler to be friends with the trees. They don't have much to say.”
“Do you ever wonder what it's like to be a different person? Do our thoughts manifest in a similar way, or is it radically different? Don't mind me, I think about weird things sometimes...”
"If you ever find any interesting looking driftwood, I could use it. It would be special that you gave it to me.”
"The trees have been begging for this rain... I'm happy for them."
"Did I ever tell you... when you first moved here I had a dream that we'd be together someday."
"Sometimes it's hard not to believe in destiny... the fact that I decided to move here, and that we found each other. It could've gone entirely differently at any point."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Leah is one of the most beloved bachelorettes in the Stardew Valley community, and it's not difficult to see why.
She is a warm and empathetic person who cares deeply about the natural world and lives in harmony with her environment. She is a dreamer who [like the farmer] wants bigger and better things than to follow the corporate rat race and live a miserable life without any real meaning or purpose.
She leaves everything she knows behind: her steady job, her apartment in the city, and her ex-boyfriend/girlfriend, all to pursue her dream of becoming a real artist. She dreams of pursuing art somewhere she feels connected to people and nature and can contribute something special in her own way:
“I first visited this valley as a little girl, while on vacation with my parents. I knew I had to come back some day… This place has great artistic potential!" "Hmmm… interesting. I guess that could set the wheels in motion to making Pelican Town a true art destination…"
Although she is afraid that her artistic dreams will result in devastating failure, with the love and support of the farmer - first as a friend, then as something more - Leah takes the leap to showcase her artistic talents to the world, knowing that no matter what happens, the farmer will be there to give her the unconditional love and support she's always needed.
"You know, I just realized something. Even if my art career is a flop, I'll always have a friend to catch me on the way down."
Do you agree that Leah is an INFP 4w5? If not, what type do you think she is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

This is an MBTI needlepoint I designed and created based on this pattern from Etsy. Pixel art skills come in clutch when designing cross-stitch patterns :)
Since this was the first pattern I've made from scratch, it took a while to figure out what DMC thread colours would look best together [lots of trial and error and redoing big parts over again ^^"].
Even though I am an INFP female, I thought it would be fun to design an INFP male x ENFJ female pair design alternative, just because I love this pairing so much <3 <3
I'm unsure if I'll design any other MBTI cross-stitch pairing patterns, but completing it was very satisfying.

Good morning! I found you through your personality analysis for Elliott of Stardew Valley and I wanted to tell you I've enjoyed reading your takes on the singles so far! Shane, Sebastian, Maru, Haley, Emily, Alex, and Elliott...I got a feeling they'll be big help for me on how to write each character as someone who just got into the fandom!
Do you plan to write a commentary for the rest of them?
Also, now I want to know more about how this MBTI-Enneagram stuff works. But I'm not sure where to begin. Can you point me to some good resources for an introduction? Please and thank you! 👍
Good Morning! Thank you so much! I'm glad you've been enjoying the character analysis I've been doing thus far. I plan on completing the rest of the bachelors and bachelorettes for Stardew, but I'm not sure about the rest of the villagers.
Not because I wouldn't be interested in doing them, but they would be a lot harder to type/assess because we don't get to see as much of them as the 'main cast', so to speak. If my followers are interested, though, I'll give it some thought.
Here are some resources that would be helpful for MBTI and Enneagram if you're just starting out. If you're curious about your own type, my advice would be not to waste money on online tests or in-depth assessments—there are plenty of free resources online that are just as good. Be careful though, you may get sucked into it for life like I have! lol ^^ All the best in your journey!

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Elliott
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on the MBTI and Enneagram pairs for Elliott.
Elliott - ISFP 4w3: “The Aristocrat”
“ISFP 4w3s are unique people with a touch of ambition. They perfectly combine the adventurous spirit of the ISFP and the creativity of type 4. This type has goals they want to achieve. However, these goals must be achieved uniquely.
Because of their wing, ISFP 4w3s are more action-oriented than most ISFPs. If their wing is especially strong, they’ll have a strong desire to be successful.” - Personality Hunt
Elliott’s Core Desire: To be unique or different
The core desire of the ISFP 4w3 is to be unique and to succeed uniquely. To achieve this, they ensure everything they do highlights their uniqueness.
Even at first introductions, we see Elliott as someone who dramatically stands out in Pelican Town: his manner of speech, style of dress, and his choice to live on the beach alone in a shack.
His goal in life is also unique. Not only does he want to become a successful writer, but he hopes to achieve this dream by moving to Stardew Valley.
“Ever since I was a young boy, I've dreamt of becoming a writer. When the time came for me to leave home and start my own life, I moved here. I was drawn to the peaceful beauty of the valley, and hoped that days of quiet reflection in this idyllic atmosphere would fan the literary flames.”
Elliott’s Core Fear: To be seen as ordinary or a failure
The core fear of the ISFP 4w3 is to be seen as ordinary. They don't want to blend into the crowd, so to prevent this, they'll do everything they can to stand out while being authentic to themselves.
Thanks to his Introverted Feeling [Fi] Elliott stays true to himself despite harsh criticism for pursuing his dreams; however, because his 3 wing is also quite strong, he fears failure or being perceived as a failure if he doesn't accomplish those dreams.
“Everyone back home said I was nuts... that I could never make it as a writer. Can you believe it? They said 'For every successful author there's 1000 who fail miserably'. Such pessimism... it's sickening.”
"I know that I am kind of an 'oddball'. I hope you don't mind."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 4w3 changes typical ISFP behaviour:
New Strengths
1. More Ambitious
"Ambition is not the hallmark of ISFPs. Granted, it’s also not the hallmark of ISFP 4w3s. However, it’s more pronounced, thanks to their wing.
Thus, ISFP 4w3s might have goals and targets they want to achieve. If their wing is strong, they might also work towards these targets.
However, because of some of the flaws of a type 4, they might never be disciplined enough to achieve their goals." - Personality Hunt
Having Extroverted Thinking [Te] as his inferior function also makes being disciplined difficult for Elliott, though it's something he strives to improve with his ambitious nature.
Examples:
"I've been working day and night to try and finish my book... It's been driving me insane, Farmer.”
"Hello, Farmer! What a pleasant surprise! I was just stopping in to [the Saloon to] relax after an eight hour writing session."
“I feel so relieved to be done with my book... it's like an elephant's been lifted off my shoulders.”
"My new year's resolution is to write, write, and write! I can never stop improving my skills."
"Caring for babies isn't exactly my strong suit... but I'll do my best to be a good father."
2. Extremely Fashionable
"Type 4 and type 3 are both image-conscious people. Thus, they usually have a good fashion sense. This also applies to ISFP 4w3s.
They dress to perfection, combining the uniqueness of type 4s and type 3’s need to impress. If there’s something you can be sure about, it’s their dress." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“I'm just taking a quick break to slather some coconut oil on my body.”
"What did I do today? I'll just say this... it takes a lot of work to maintain this rugged physique!”
“I'll admit... it takes me several hours each morning to make my hair look this good.”
"I have to brush my hair daily, or else it'll clump up into messy knots. It's a lot of work.”
“The sun is angry today... My skin is a bit too delicate, I'm afraid.”
"I leave early tomorrow morning [for the book tour]…I need to pack! Don't let me forget my hairbrush, my hairspray, my fine-tooth comb, and my pomegranate conditioner!"
3. More Creative
ISFPs, like most sensors, are practical people. They focus on what is directly in front of them and what they can impact in the here and now. This doesn't mean they aren't creative people, but their creativity comes out in more hands-on ways.
This is different for ISFP 4w3s. They are super creative, combining their Extroverted Sensing [Se] and Introverted Intuition [Ni] into their artistic pursuits. They can create almost anything out of nothing, making them excellent writers, designers, painters, etc., etc.,
Examples:
"... I've been dabbling in piano since I was a kid. I'm not very good, but it's fun."
“Hopefully a crab hasn't snuck onto my clothes again. Imagine crawling out of a pocket and finding yourself on a beach hundreds of miles from home! Hmmm... Perhaps this could make for an interesting novel...”
"A day can never be boring when you follow the whims of your imagination."
"A great idea can pass through your head when you least expect it… but if your mind is too busy you might miss it."
"A crackling fire adds wonderful ambience to the house... every piece of wood burns in a unique way."
"I'm doing a walking meditation. It's good for creativity."
4. More Romantic
"Type 4 is often called the romantic. Thus, it’s not surprising that ISFP 4w3s have a strong interest in love and romance.
While this is true, this does not affect their level of commitment in relationships. Just like typical ISFPs, they are in search of someone they are comfortable with.
This might make them seem flighty." - Personality Hunt
Not only does his interest in romance apply to Elliott's intimate relationships, but it can also be seen in his 'romantic' approach to life and literature, which is:
"...marked by the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious, or idealized." -Merriam-Webster
His unusual approach to life and romance makes many players suspicious of his intentions and sincerity during their first playthrough [myself included]. His fluffy words and flirty attitude cause many to wonder if he is concealing anything nefarious.
However, even though his language and personality can be mushy and over-the-top sometimes, throughout the game we see him as no less sincere than someone who says things bluntly.
Examples:
"I write in hopes of connecting with others through time and space."
"It must be satisfying to follow your crop from seed to harvest. It's as if your essence is infused into the fruit."
"Farmer, I had a feeling that you would show up. Perhaps we're connected by an other-worldly thread."
“Elliott whispers a sweet secret into your ear.”
“Yes... could I refuse that soft, kind face? The touch of spring-time's sweet embrace?”
“You're ice cold! Let me keep you warm.”
"My love... I wouldn't trade you for 100 iridium bars. Nor 1000...Not even 10,000 bars, no....No, not even 100,000 bars!...Wa... one million bars of pure iridium...? Don't make me do this..."
"I made a whole secret book of poems expressing my love for you.”
"I feel burnt out in your absence. But when I hear that sound of muddy boots on wood, my heart rises from the ash."
"Look... I fixed up that old rowboat that's been sitting by my house. Pretty nice, huh? Farmer... Would you do me the honor of joining me for her maiden voyage?”
"Some people are shy. Keep showing interest in them and they'll get comfortable around you."
5. More Competitive
Depending on the strength of their wing, ISFP 4w3s can be quite competitive since they want to be the best. However, their competitive side usually only appears in games and other social events.
Depending on their maturity and wing strength, this can be an intense drive to win or playful competition between friends and family.
Examples:
“Well, if it isn't the town's number one ice fisher! That was truly an impressive performance. I never stand a chance, but I always participate just to be sporting.”
"I'm a little out of practice, but I plan on entering the fishing contest tomorrow! You've got some stiff competition, dear.”
New Weaknesses
1. Self Absorbed
The problems of the ISFP 4w3s start here. ISFP 4w3s, just like ISFP 4w5s, can become fixated on themselves.
Thus, they might start feeling they are special. This makes them inflate their problems and put themselves first.
The downsides of this are immense. People might see them as self-centered. They might also strain their relationship with others." - Personality Hunt
The tendency to be self-absorbed creates a lot of problems for Elliott. His desire to be unique often causes him to act in over-the-top and melodramatic ways, especially when first meeting the farmer. Not only are many characters rubbed the wrong way by his melodramatic tendencies, but many players automatically judge him as problematic and pretentious, especially if it's their first playthrough.
However, this is intentional writing for Elliott's character development and while these characteristics can be red flags, they aren't always - as we will see later.
Examples:
“You've plucked Pelican Town's finest flower... Now, you must care for it with all your heart.”
"Another year gone by, another gray hair… I suppose this gift can commemorate my decline."
"Farmer, I know you have faith in my abilities as a writer. That means a lot to me."
“Sometimes I wonder if I might just have an inflated self-image and no real skills...No, no... I'm not fishing for compliments. Though they are appreciated..."
“I have to brush my hair daily, or else it'll clump up into messy knots. It's a lot of work. I'm surprised I haven't just shaved it off in a fit of passion. I suppose I am too vain.”
"Hello, Farmer! What a pleasant surprise! I was just stopping in to relax after an eight hour writing session. Bartender! Fetch me your finest ale. And bring some wine for the lady!”
2. Lower Energy Levels
ISFP 4w3s aren't the most energetic, but if their 3 wing is strong, their lower energy levels may not be that bad. Because they are sensors, they are also more action-oriented when compared to the INFP 4w3.
Examples:
“I can't seem to find the inspiration to begin writing my novel...”
"A great idea can pass through your head when you least expect it… but if your mind is too busy you might miss it."
“That's why I chose this beach as my home, so that I could have peace and quiet to do my work.”
"I spent the afternoon daydreaming about the ocean. So I decided to cook some seafood."
"I had a nice time at the beach by myself. I watched the waves come and go, just like old times."
"Winter is a great time to read books and play the piano. Remember to pause and enjoy a quiet moment or two."
“My inspiration for writing is like the weather... it comes and goes at random. Today I feel entirely dull. Perhaps I'll read one of the classics to get my creative juices flowing.”
3. Battle Between Staying Unique and Being Adaptable
Being a type 4, ISFP 4w3s want to be unique and different. However, type 3 wants to be successful and adaptable, creating internal conflict between the two types, especially if an ISFP 4w3's wing is strong. The core desire of type 4 usually wins in the end, but it's something ISFP 4w3s may struggle with for their entire lives.
Elliott struggles with wanting to achieve his literary dreams uniquely by living a lonely life on the beach. He yo-yos back and forth between wanting stability and security for his future and staying true to himself and his vision of completing his book in his own way.
Examples:
“That's why I live out here by myself. I figured a lonely life by the sea would help me focus on my literary aspirations...”
"Sorry, I'm feeling morose today. I wish there was more certainty about the future. I don't want to grow old as a lonely hermit on this beach…",
“People have scraped a living off the sea for thousands of years. I just go to the grocery store.”
"The sweet friction of pen and paper is the music of my soul. That's why I chose this beach as my home, so that I could have peace and quiet to do my work."
"It's a little lonely out here on the beach… so I apologize if I was ever a little too forward with you when we first met. I was just eager to have a friend. It feels good to have a close friend like you."
"I came to the valley to find the ivory tower from which my talents could reign supreme. But what I really found was a dungeon of loneliness. You saved me from that."
4. Emotions and More Emotions
Being Feelers and type 4s, ISFP 4w3s are very emotional people. While being sensitive to emotion can be a positive, it can also get them into a lot of trouble.
Because of their emotional intensity and Extroverted Sensing [Se] tendency to act in the moment, they can frequently make spur-of-the-moment decisions based on their feelings before thinking them through.
They can also be sensitive to criticism, even if it's constructive and tactful. This can hold them back from achieving their goals and being open to new opportunities.
Examples:
"There's just too much work to do! And my bank account's starting to run dry. Sometimes I wish I could just throw it all away and become a farmer like you."
"I had a good time at the saloon the other day… Though my liver is not quite so enthusiastic…",
“Why do you torment me? Can't you see you've shattered all my hopes and dreams.”
"Gus, I'll order a round for everyone!*hic*… Oh… I don't have the G. Heh heh… Never mind!"
"...Let's see, how do I put this...? For once, I'm at a loss for words... [Elliott leans in and passionately kisses the farmer].” -------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Path of Integration: 4w3 to 7w6
Throughout the game, Elliott struggles to enjoy his life while making his dreams of being a successful author a reality. His core fears of being ordinary and a failure - "to be just like every other failed author" - keep him locked in a prison of his own making.
As a result, he increasingly self-isolates and becomes very self-critical, pushing himself to complete his project even if it is self-detrimental.
"I came to the valley to find the ivory tower from which my talents could reign supreme. But what I really found was a dungeon of loneliness.
Elliott and Shame
Type 4s are in the Heart Triad [along with types 2 and 3] making Elliott's core fear directly related to feelings of shame:
"The core belief type 4s struggle with as a part of the shame triad is that if they aren’t unique, they are unworthy of love...[they] will wear their emotions on their sleeve, and show up as a perfectly curated image to hide that feeling of unworthiness they feel at their core" - Making Mindfulness Fun
"Hello, Farmer! What a pleasant surprise! I was just stopping in to relax after an eight hour writing session. Bartender! Fetch me your finest ale. And bring some wine for the lady!"
Because Elliott also has a strong type 3 wing, his shame is multi-faceted, adding more complexity to his core fears and behaviours:
"[Their] core belief... is that if they aren’t always achieving more, they are unworthy of love...[they] numb and ignore their emotions to deal with their shame. They believe that if they allow themselves to be human, enjoy life, and show their emotions they will be unloved. This leads them to push people away and feel stressed because they believe the only way they can receive love is by being perceived as successful." - Making Mindfulness Fun
"…What I meant is that I'd like to get away from this dark, musty prison and experience a little bit of real life... that's all. *sigh*... sorry I'm complaining like this. I just need someone to talk to now and then.”
Unconditional Love
Once the farmer gets to know Elliott better, he relaxes around them and drops his 'over the top' persona. Though he still enjoys speaking more romantically and eloquently sometimes, he isn't as concerned with having the perfect words to say. He lets his guard down, allowing his true thoughts and feelings to shine.
"Hey. "Look… I fixed up that old rowboat that's been sitting by my house. Pretty nice, huh?"
"But I am grateful that you believed in me… in my vision. And, well… Um… Farmer? How do I say this…Well, we've been friends for a while now… But I'm… I'm not sure if I feel that way about you anymore. No! I'm not saying I want to cut all ties with you! In fact… quite the opposite…Let's see, how do I put this…? For once, I'm at a loss for words…"
Elliott starts to believe that he doesn't need to try so hard to be loved - that he is worthy of love for simply being his authentic self, imperfections and all. It's through the love and support of the farmer that Elliott starts to truly embrace himself and embrace the highs and lows of life, without shame.
Elliott's Book Tour Letters
After Elliott's marriage to the farmer, we see him begin to take on the positive traits of an ISFP 7w6 in his marriage dialogue; however, the evidence of this change can be seen even more in his 14-heart event: his book tour letters.
Letter 1:
"I begin the tour this evening, at a local bookstore. I must admit, I'm becoming a bit nervous at the thought of public speaking…"
Letter 2:
"I miss you very much. Remember to eat well! Oh, and don't forget the leftover crab cakes I put in the fridge…"
Letter 3:
"Last night in Zuzu City was quite the experience! It seems there's a large literary scene here… a few dozen people showed up at my reading! I even signed a couple of autographs… it's strange to be seen as someone important. It's all a matter of framing, a grand illusion… for truly I am no one special. Only your devoted Elliott, as always."
Letter 4:
"In dreams, when graced with lofty view I gaze upon the sunlit sea What distant shores I've traveled to But time now clouds my memory There is but one eternal place Where I shall someday pass beyond In Valley dear, where my love waits: Our little home beside the pond" -Elliott
Letter 5:
"I won't bore you with any more details about my readings. They are mostly the same. I'm sure your time has been much more exciting! I can't wait to return and see what progress has been made...There's a lot to enjoy! Just don't stay out too late in the mines, my love. It's dangerous in there! If you must go… bring plenty of food."
Letter 6:
"This will be my last letter before I return home. I've had a fine trip… though nothing too exciting. It's been nice to meet people who enjoy my work, but I'm eager to return home. I look forward to the comfort of our little house, the satisfying farm work, a home-cooked meal, and most of all, cozying into the flannel sheets with you."
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
During my first playthrough, I had an unconscious bias towards Elliott. I believed that handsome men who took pride in their physical appearance, and/or spoke in a more romantic, flowery way automatically had something to hide.
Though that IS sometimes the case, it isn’t always, and I think that’s what made exploring Elliott’s character a surprising one for me.
His superficial traits rubbed me the wrong way, and I thought of him as nothing more than a self-centred, pompous, melodramatic ladies' man.
However, once I got to know him better throughout the game, I saw him not as suspicious but as a deeply passionate and highly motivated individual, who despite wrestling with his feelings of shame and unworthiness, is still unapologetically true to himself and his values despite the odds and adversity.
I think that’s how his character was meant to be written, and that subversion of expectation throughout the game made learning about Elliott so genuinely fascinating.
He's not everyone's cup of tea, but based on what we know about him, his personality, and his journey throughout the game, he has much more to offer than what first impressions might imply.

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Emily
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on Emily's MBTI and Enneagram pairing.
Emily - ESFP 2w1: “The Companion”
“ESFPs are everything you think they are, plus some more. Energetic, charismatic, and suckers for the limelight, ESFPs are intriguing. ESFP 2w1s, however, are a different breed.
ESFP 2w1s are big personalities. They are cheerful people who show up when it counts. They especially love their friends and cherish the memories they share. Because of their wing, ESFP 2w1s also have strong morals.”– Personality Hunt
Emily’s Core Desire: To be helpful
"The core desire of the ESFP 2w1 is to be helpful. They want to be indispensable in their relationship with others. Because of this need, they go to great lengths to make others happy. " - Personality Hunt
We see Emily's desire to be helpful in her desire to support her community, her family, and even injured/orphaned animals.
“Oh, good, [the egg is] still warm... Poor thing, where's it's mother? *Whisper* ...I'll be your mother, don't worry... Poor baby. I'm glad you gave this to me, Farmer. I'll take very good care of it.”
“I meant to let the parrot go free, but his wing never fully healed. He seems content, though. I give him lots of attention. He told me that he's happy here.”
Emily’s Core Fear: To be abandoned
"The core fear of the ESFP 2w1 is to be abandoned. To combat this, this personality type combines the perfectionistic tendencies of type 1 and the people-pleasing traits of type 2." - Personality Hunt
“This house was left in our care by my parents. They've been traveling the world for the last two years. We have no idea when they'll be back.”
“Farmer... You broke my heart... I just can't talk to you anymore. Please, let me try to heal...”
“I hope you'll still like me when I grow old and my hair turns to a dull, faded steel.”
"Th... That night in the tent... you whispered such sweet things to me in the dark...Now I have to face each day knowing it was all a lie.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 2w1 changes typical ESFP behaviour:
New Strengths
1. Fi Mimics Fe
ESFPs have Introverted Feeling [Fi] as their secondary function, meaning they primarily use it as an 'internal check' to see if they are comfortable with an idea or course of action. ESFP 2w1s are slightly different. They are much more concerned with the thoughts and feelings of others before concerning their own. There is a debate on whether their Fi is imitating Extroverted Feeling [Fe] or if they simply have a stronger grasp of it. That being said, as a high Fi user myself [Elaho - INFP], I believe that Emily's strong empathy is a result of her Extroverted Sensing [Se] and Introverted Feeling [Fi] functions working together to outwardly 'mimic' [at least, at first glance], Extroverted Feeling instead of consciously using more Fe:
A common misconception of Introverted Feeling is that it only cares about the user's core values, feelings, and emotions and no one else's. Not so. Fi is much more than simply evaluating what internal values the user holds. It is also a complex and vastly nuanced system of 'emotion mapping', allowing a high Fi user to enter another person's emotional experience and understand it, with almost near perfection, as if it were their own - they intensely feel the highs and lows of other people's inner world deep in their bodies alongside their own.
Introverted Feeling is highly individualistic and cares deeply about each specific person's inner harmony and personal happiness, as opposed to Extroverted Feeling's focus on group harmony and external happiness. Fi's focus is on creating inner harmony for each individual person which will, in turn, result in more authentic harmony and happiness for everyone.
How this information is obtained will differ between Intuitive and Sensing types [whether through Extroverted Intuition - Ne or Extroverted Sensing- Se], but the end result is the same.
We see Emily gather emotional information externally through her Se, and try to 'feel' and comprehend it internally with her Fi. She might have occasional 'bursts' of Fe awareness, but these are short-lived and are extremely rare for strong Fi users like ESFPs.
Examples:
“There's good people in this town who just can't seem to find happiness. It makes me sad. Working in the saloon, I hear first-hand about everyone's problems.”
“Did you really think so? That's exactly the effect I was shooting for! I'm so glad you liked it.”
“I feel bad for Linus. People judge him, but he's just living a different lifestyle. I wish everyone could learn to be accepting of others.”
"I think Clint's mad at me. He never looks at me anymore...I always thought we were friends."
"The energy in our bodies fluctuate just as the seasons do. Understanding your own unique rhythm is the first step to inner harmony."
2. More Generous/Helpful
"[Typical] ESFPs help as much as they feel inclined to. ESFP 2w1s take this to another level. They help even when it’s bad for them.
Help could mean taking on people’s tasks, driving them to the hospital, or helping financially. ESFP 2w1s are willing to do whatever it takes to make their loved ones happy." - Personality Hunt
Emily always seems eager to lend a helping hand, even going out of her way to support the new arrival in the Valley. On top of her generosity towards the community, she also shoulders the financial burden of caring for her parent's house and supporting her younger sister who refuses to work, loves to shop, and won't help around the house- all to keep everyone around her happy.
Examples:
“Hi Farmer! Do you raise sheep in your barn? You can turn their wool into beautiful bolts of cloth! You'll need a loom, though. You can make them yourself if you know the crafting recipe.”
"Well, did you know that you can use cloth to tailor all kinds of clothes? All you need is access to a sewing machine…And I happen to have one at home! Feel free to swing by and use it any time."
“I swept the whole house, washed the windows, dusted, and cleaned the fridge. It was a very productive day!”
“Is that a new hole I see in your shirt? I can sew that up for you, no problem.”
“I wish Haley would get a job or at least contribute to cooking and cleaning. I think she's hoping to marry someone rich.”
3. More Excitable
ESFPs are naturally very excitable but 2w1s are even more so. They are eager to experience all that life offers, from epic adventures to simple tasks and treasures. However, ESFP 2w1s can have difficulty managing their own thrills and the thrills brought by others. This can cause them problems later on.
Examples:
“Yes, I'd love to dance with you, Farmer! Now I'm excited... This is going to be a lot of fun!”
“I drank a super-food smoothie this morning and I feel aaah-mazing.”
“Oh!... Heheh... I know exactly why you gave me this stone today. Very interesting...Wow, it's beautiful! This color makes me think of all the spiritual power within the forest... Can you feel that wood energy?”
“That's funny, I had a dream that you would give me a piece of jade today! Ooh, it's jade! This is supposed to attract wealth... And who couldn't do with a few extra coins in the pocket?”
4. Stronger Ethics/Morals
Due to their Introverted Feeling [Fi], ESFPs have a strong sense of morals and ethics and having a 1 wing makes them even more aware of their beliefs and values. Having strong morals and ethics is one thing, but consistency is another; how strongly they personally uphold their beliefs will depend on the strength of their wing.
Examples:
"You catch fish? I just hope you treat the poor things humanely. Every critter deserves our respect, even the slimy ones.”
“I hope you're farming in a sustainable way. The valley's ecosystem is fragile! How do I know? I have a strong gut-feeling!”
"Eating healthy is very important to me. I want to live a long and active life."
"My horoscope for the day isn't too good… but I'm going to make the best of it, as always. Let's get to work!"
5. More Family-Oriented
"ESFPs, like most sensors, value their family. They love the holidays and keep the memories they share with others. ESFP 2w1s are like that and more. This is enhanced by type 2’s need to be the perfect companion. They become the glue in the family." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“I'm just working at Gus' to make ends meet [for me and Haley]... but my real passion is tailoring. I made these clothes from scratch, see?”
"Is one child enough, or should we raise another? I guess we'll just see where fate leads us."
"I've always loved sewing and making crafts… So I thought it'd be nice to make you something by hand. I had a lot of fun!... Now, when you wear those clothes, you'll think of me… and you'll know I'm here waiting for you to come home safe… okay?"
"This is so fun to live together! I always thought I'd be single my whole life."
6. More Emotional
ESFPs are highly in touch with their emotions and the emotions of others, and ESFPs are even more sensitive to emotions. They can be hypersensitive to criticism from family and friends. Even if the criticism is constructive and well-delivered, it can weigh heavily on them for a long time, resulting in either sadness or anger.
Examples:
"Nothing is more sad than an injured animal...”
“B...But I thought we had a special bond... *sniff*”
“Um... Okay. Sorry you didn't like it. I guess those three years of practice were a complete waste...” “*sigh*... Why does there have to be war and hatred in the world?”
"I can't help but think of all the poor, frozen squirrels out there right now."
New Weaknesses
1. Impulsive Behaviour Directed at Helping
"ESFP 2w1s retain the impulsive and sometimes erratic behaviour of [typical ESFPs]. However, rather than being directed to finances or adventures, it’s toward helping others.
ESFP 2w1s struggle with saying no. So, they could be super busy and still accept to take on more tasks without thinking it through." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“If I wasn't so busy I'd come help you on the farm! But Gus would be upset if I had another job...”
"I'm going to visit town today, and later on I'm going to help out at the saloon. Have a nice day."
2. Strong Morals, but Fewer Standards
ESFP 2w1s have stronger morals than typical ESFPs, but because type 1 is only their wing, upholding standards derived from her morals is more difficult.
This can be for multiple reasons, but in Emily's case, she has difficulty maintaining and enforcing the shared responsibility and mutual contribution between herself and her sister.
Examples:
“I wish Haley would get a job or at least contribute to cooking and cleaning.”
"You're being childish, Haley. I do the vast majority of work in this house, and you know it.”
“Haley is a picky eater. It's so hard to cook for her.”
“*sigh*... I'm really sorry to involve you in this, Farmer. Haley is complaining because I asked her to clean under the cushions.”
3. Self-Critical
"[Being self-critical] also stems from their wing. Type 1 has high standards. So, they become self-critical when they can’t meet these standards.
If this happens repeatedly, they might lose their self-confidence. In worst-case scenarios, ESFP 2w1s might feel depressed or hopeless.
The extent to which this applies depends on the strength of their wing." - Personality Hunt
Emily's self-criticism comes from her desire to be the perfect helper - to maintain an entire household, work to support her family, and continue to be an uplifting and inspiring presence to everyone in her community.
Because of her desire for perfection, she has difficulty venting her frustrations, accepting her limitations, and embracing unpleasant emotions without feeling shame or guilt.
Examples:
"Haley and I aren't made for such a big house. It's a hassle to keep it clean. Ah well. I really shouldn't be complaining. Your farmhouse seems nice and cozy."
"I feel uninspired today [sad face]."
"My day went well... it's good to get out of the house now and then."
"Every moment has a unique and precious beauty… do you notice? It can be easy to forget, sometimes."
4. Lack of Self-Care
ESFP 2w1s often take on more than they can handle, causing them to neglect themselves and their relationships. If taken to the extreme, their eagerness to help others can seriously impact their physical and mental well-being.
Although it's part of her spiritual beliefs, Emliy's strong interest in crystals, energies, and Yoba seems more than just about religious devotion.
Not only does she have so much on her plate with trying to make ends meet and support her community, but she has so little support from the people closest to her [her parents and sister], that she seems to depend greatly on crystals, energies, and Yoba [far more than any other spiritual people in town] to simply keep her from collapsing from exhaustion.
Examples:
“If I didn't have to work I'd suggest we go on a nice picnic!”
“If I wasn't so busy I'd help you dig around in that cave by the lake. I bet there are some powerful crystals inside there.”
"Ah, an amethyst! This will protect me on those late nights working at the Saloon."
"Oh, this is perfect… I've been feeling a little sluggish lately. Rubies are great for energizing the spirit!"
"Ooh, it's jade! This is supposed to attract wealth… And who couldn't do with a few extra coins in the pocket?"
"The warm, soothing energy of this stone helps us re-center our thoughts… It's actually just what I needed on a day like this. Thanks!"
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Emily is one of the sweetest, kindest, most generous people in Stardew Valley. She may come across as overly dreamy, eccentric, and enthusiastic, but behind her cheerful exterior is someone who is deeply afraid of abandonment: her parents shouldered her the responsibility of caring for their house and youngest daughter to travel the world without her.
The only contact she has with her parents is the occasional letter and gift sent in the mail.
“This house was left in our care by my parents. They've been traveling the world for the last two years. We have no idea when they'll be back.”
As a result, she tries to make herself useful and indispensable to those still in her life. It isn't until her positive relationship with the farmer that she starts to heal from her parental abandonment and confidently create the loving and stable family life she's always wanted with the farmer's unconditional love.
"Good morning! I was wondering when you'd finally roll out of bed! It's okay, Farmer… you deserve a good night of rest."
"I hope we can raise our child to be kind and considerate. That's more important than getting A's in school."
Now, when you wear those clothes, you'll think of me… and you'll know I'm here waiting for you to come home safe… okay?"
Do you agree that Emily is an ESFP 2w1? If not, what type do you think she is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Haley
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on the MBTI and Enneagram pairs for Haley.
Haley - ESTJ 3w4: “The Professional”
“ESTJ 3w4s are ambitious people with a sprinkle of creativity. This personality type is goal-oriented and works harder than most. Because of their wing, they go about their tasks in a unique way.” - Personality Hunt
Haley’s Core Desire: To be successful and unique
The core desire of the ESTJ 3w4 is to be successful, using their wing to create a unique path for themselves.
Haley's desire for success isn't stated outright, but her actions and the dialogue about her in-game indicate that she's looking to achieve a certain level of 'societal success'.
However, she doesn't want to 'succeed' in the traditional way of actively working to gain success. Instead, she wants her own success to be achieved for her 'uniqueness'. By channelling her efforts into cultivating and maintaining her physical beauty, she aims to become the perfect trophy wife for someone rich and live a lavish life of luxury.
"Emily's friend had this swimsuit shipped to me from all the way out in Zuzu City. City fashion is on a whole different level, isn't it?"
"Laying out on a tropical beach.*sigh* I think I've finally found my place in the universe."
"This town is so small. It sucks. I have to drive, like, twenty miles to buy any decent clothes. That's why I usually just order online."
"I've decided I am going to organize my clothes today. I'll have to throw out all of last year's styles to make room for the new ones!"
“I wish Haley would get a job or at least contribute to cooking and cleaning. I think she's hoping to marry someone rich.”
Haley’s Core Fear: To be a failure or seen as a failure
The core fear of the ESTJ 3w4 is to be a failure or be seen as a failure, even if they know they aren't. Appearances matter a lot to 3w4s, both in how they see themselves and how they're viewed by others. However, Haley's desire for success goes beyond simple ambition. She seems obsessed with maintaining a flawless standard of beauty: perfectly tan skin, skin-kissed blonde hair, the latest fashion trends, flawless makeup and accessorizing, etc., Whom she associates with is also an important factor in appearing successful, such as having the 'perfect boyfriend' [Alex] and distancing herself from her 'weird' sister and others in her community.
Her behaviour leads many to believe she's just a spoiled brat who was babied by her parents, but in reality, Haley is afraid of failure; deep down she thinks she isn't good enough.
So to ease her own fears and insecurities, she tries to keep up with the impossible beauty standards she imposes on herself and hyper-focuses on how she is perceived by others who have, [in her eyes], achieved success.
Her pride prevents her from being honest with herself and accepting criticism from others when it matters.
“She should take the 'high road'? What's that supposed to mean? You think I'm being a baby, huh?”
“I'll be fine on my own...Thanks for the memories. Why are you still clinging to me? Go live your own life.”
“Haley is too proud to be heartbroken over the divorce... Or at least to show it.”
"My sister is so weird. Sometimes I wonder if we're actually related."
"I'm feeling an urge to go shopping. Ugh! I wish there was a mall here."
"…Well, I guess I used to like Alex. But not anymore! He's immature."
"I've never been to the forest. It's muddy and I could get a blister on my foot."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 3w4 changes typical ESTJ behaviour:
New Strengths
1. Less Extroverted
"ESTJ are already introverted extroverts. The spectrum shifts even more with ESTJ 3w4s. Because of their wing, this personality type will crave alone time and autonomy.
So, expect them to be less social than typical ESTJs. It also means there’s a constant battle between type 3 and type 4 regarding human interaction.
The extent to which this applies depends on the strength of their wing." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“Um... Yes? I didn't hear you, I'm thinking about something else.”
“Haley is ignoring you.”
“*sigh*...what do you think I should do today? I'll probably take a nap later.”
"I spent 3 hours practicing my signature today. I guess that's pretty silly, huh?"
"The only good thing about winter is that I get to sleep more. I like at least 10 hours of sleep every night."
2. More Interested in Fashion
Type 3s care about outward appearances and type 4s care about being unique, so it makes sense that ESTJs would be more interested in fashion.
Combined with their exceptional cognitive skills at strategizing [Te] and ability to maintain standards [Si], the primary goal of the ESTJ 3w4 is to create a lasting impression with their fashion sense.
Examples:
“Hmm... If it weren't for those horrendous clothes you might actually be cute.”
“Do you wear those clothes every day?”
"I'm going to start writing a list of all the clothes I need for next spring."
"I think I'm starting to realize that clothes aren't the most important thing. Right? I still like clothes, though. I mean, what's wrong with expressing yourself a little?"
3. More Creative
ESTJs are very pragmatic people who look to achieve tangible results in their daily lives. However, the ESTJ 3w4 is slightly different. Their enneagram makes them more creative and future-oriented than typical ESTJs.
As a result, they often have a good idea of what they want their near future to look like and infuse more art and creativity into their goals and lifestyle.
Examples:
“My name means 'field of hay', but I like to imagine it as a meadow full of sunflowers..."
“Wow, look at how the sunlight sparkles on the horizon! I bet the sunsets here would make for an amazing photo. I have to remember to bring my camera next time.”
"I felt like I had no direction in life before I met you. Now I have exactly what I want."
"We've got to make sure the farm is cute! That might be important… right, honey?"
“I cooked dinner last night. It actually turned out okay! But I did make a huge mess in the kitchen..."
"Hi, honey. Hey... I have an idea... I want to get everyone together for a charity cake-walk. Uh... It's kind of like musical chairs, but everyone wins and gets cake! You'll see...”
4. Status Conscious
"Type 3 is overly interested in what people think of them or how they’re perceived. This interest drives them to preserve their self-image. It also goes side by side with their need to look fashionable.
This has its advantages. ESTJ 3w4s are more likely to be noticed first. This can aid their careers." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“Emily's friend had this swimsuit shipped to me from all the way out in Zuzu City. City fashion is on a whole different level, isn't it?
"This town is so small. It sucks. I have to drive, like, twenty miles to buy any decent clothes. That's why I usually just order online. What?”
“Hmm. What brand is your shirt? Oh. Um, never mind.”
"You got Haley to marry you, huh? I always figured she was out of your league!"
"I'll admit… I was a little jealous when you and Haley got married."
5. More Sensitive
ESTJs aren't known for being sensitive. They are Thinkers first and foremost, making them less sensitive to emotions and feelings [of others and their own]. Using logical reasoning, they prefer to communicate in a straightforward, matter-of-fact way that can often make them overly blunt, tactless, or dismissive.
ESTJ 3w4s are different. While they retain their inner logic, they are much more tactful and emotionally aware than typical ESTJs.
Once she connects more to her Introverted Feeling [Fi], Haley begins revealing the more sensitive, thoughtful, and empathetic part of herself. However, ESTJs tend to be very private about their innermost feelings and desires, so they only open up to people they are close to and trust.
Examples:
“Did you see last night's episode of 'Tears'? *sob*... I can't believe Kyle and Amy broke up...”
“Yesterday I found a seagull with her wing caught in a net. I set her free, of course. She looked so helpless, the poor thing.”
“...Maybe [my great-grandma’s bracelet will] wash up on another shore. I can't bear to think of it at the bottom of the ocean.”
“Fall is kind of sad for me... everything is dying.”
"I talked to my sister for a while last night. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. You know, Emily's not actually that weird. I guess we have more in common than I used to think. Don't tell her I said so."
New Weaknesses
1. Can be Self Absorbed
"[Being an ESTJ type 3 with a] type 4 as a wing comes some weaknesses. One of them is the tendency to become self-absorbed. When stressed or unhealthy, ESTJ 3w4s might become wrapped in their bubble.
During these periods, they might become hypersensitive to any situation they find themselves. It can make them feel really special or cursed. Regardless of how they feel, it can make their loved ones feel like outsiders." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“I feel the urge to go shopping. *sigh*”
“Your name is Farmer, right? I keep forgetting.”
"I wish someone would bring me a peppermint coffee. Don't even bother, I know you won't be able to make one."
[Spouse Flower Dance Accept] "*sigh*… My days of being Flower Queen are over… so it's a bittersweet dance for me."
"*sigh* I could really go for a cupcake right now. Do you need something?"
"I'm feeling an urge to go shopping. Ugh! I wish there was a mall here."
2. Competitive Streak
Type 3s are competitive people and while this can be admirable, it can also get out of hand. Combined with Haley's desire to be unique, her competitiveness comes out when comparing herself to the farmer, especially in the beginning of their relationship.
She constantly critiques the farmer's choice of clothes, profession, and even their smell. She is especially ruthless towards the female farmer, implying that Haley views her as competition.
Examples:
“Nice shoes. Are those made out of plastic?”
“Nice makeup. Or wait... Are you even wearing any?”
“Hmm... If it weren't for those horrendous clothes you might actually be pretty... Actually, never mind.”
"Don't you get tired of running around on that farm all day, or whatever it is you do? I couldn't stand getting all dirty like that. You probably get a nice tan, though."
“Getting the perfect tan is an art form...It's kind of like toasting a marshmallow... you have to rotate the body just right.”
"Ew, you're all dirty."
"Do you wear those clothes every day?"
"Hmm… Something smells weird…You've been working on the farm, huh?"
3. Excessive Focus on Self Image
"As stated earlier, self-image is important to ESTJ 3w4s for good reasons. However, when this is taken too far, it can cause problems.
This personality type can become too focused on self-image that they prioritize over anything else.
Thus, they may have fake lives and lie to seem more appealing. This can affect their personal relationships. ESTJ 3w4s need to sort out what’s most important." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
"Maybe I'll donate some of my skirts to a charity this spring. I mean, I do have over 1,000 skirts."
“Is that a grass stain on your knee? Sorry, I'm allergic to grass.”
“I've never been to the forest. It's muddy and I could get a blister on my foot.”
“My sister is so weird. Sometimes I wonder if we're actually related.”
4. Eternal Battle for Self-Identity
The conflict between type 3's need for image preservation and networking and type 4's need for independence can create a life-long inner battle for the ESTJ 3w4.
This can lead the ESTJ to wear facades for long periods, and if left for too long, cause them to lose sight of their core values and what they really want in life [especially if they get disconnected from their Fi]. In extreme cases, ESTJ 3w4s can spend their entire lives trying to discover who they really are.
Examples:
“I need to find some kind of hobby other than shopping. I've decided I want to expand my horizons. Maybe I should learn to play the mini-harp?”
"Shopping just doesn't sound as fun as it used to. What's happening to me? Hmm..."
“I should start reading some books instead of magazines. It's good to learn things, isn't it? I only ever look at the pictures.”
“I never thought I'd say this, but the country lifestyle really suits me.”
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Haley is one of those characters that, whether players love her or hate her, has more going on than what first impressions imply. We're first introduced to her as a mean, shallow, self-absorbed, spoiled brat of a 'princess' who only seems to care about her tan lines and when her next shopping trip will be.
However, once we get past her 'mean girl' facade, we see someone deeply afraid of failure or being labelled a failure. As a result, because she tries so hard to keep up with trends and outward indicators of 'success', Haley doesn't really know who she is and what she wants out of life.
Her friendship with the farmer helps her to get more in touch with her Introverted Feeling [Fi], her weakest function as an ESTJ. Once she does, she begins to define for herself what it truly means to be successful, regardless of external standards or expectations.
She starts to find meaning and purpose in embracing nature, getting into photography, and helping others in her community. She even organizes an entire charity event by herself, infusing her creativity and passion for cake into the event to raise money for Jas’ and Vincent’s education.
"Hey! Oh, good, you brought the cake!.. It's a pretty good turnout [for the charity cake walk], huh? Thanks everyone for joining in. We raised over 5,000g!... It was a big success! Thanks for helping out, honey.”
She comes to cherish the town she was once so desperate to escape from to be successful, and instead, finds meaning, value, and joy in being a part of her tight-knit farming community.
"I used to complain about this town being so small, but I've grown to like it. If it was much bigger it wouldn't feel like a community."
"I felt like I had no direction in life before I met you. Now I have exactly what I want."
Do you agree that Haley is an ESTJ 3w4? If not, what type do you think she is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Maru
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on Maru's MBTI and Enneagram pairing.
Maru - ENTP 6w7: “The Confidant”
“ENTP 6w7s are cheerful, loyal friends. This personality type is also more careful than your typical ENTP. The problem with the ENTP 6w7 is that they can be hard to spot. This is because they usually have a strong wing. This makes them more outgoing. Plus, type 6 is usually people-oriented.”– Personality Hunt
Maru’s Core Desire: To be secure
The core desire of the ENTP 6w7 is to be secure. This doesn’t just mean being emotionally and financially secure, but they also want to protect those they are loyal to and ensure they are secure as well. For type 6s, security leads to both freedom and independence, allowing them to pursue their dreams without worrying about being abandoned or losing their support system. However, this won’t always be noticeable, as ENTPs are more likely to cover it up with jokes, humour, or charisma.
Throughout the game, Maru seems afraid to assert her independence from her parents, especially her father, Demetrius. She is worried how her father will perceive her romantic relationship with the farmer. This newfound relationship inspires her to build a robot to help her parents when she’s gone so they won’t feel burdened or abandoned when she leaves the nest.
"Dad! I've been making this robot for you and Mom! MarILDA's designed to assist you in the laboratory and Mom at the carpentry table... so when I'm not living here anymore it won't be such a burden on you guys."
“Ummm... Don't break the news [about us dating] to my Dad, okay? I'll handle it.”
Maru’s Core Fear: To be vulnerable
The core fear of ENTP 6w7s is to be vulnerable and without support. To prevent being vulnerable, they often use Introverted Thinking [Ti] to go through all possible scenarios and analyse their fears logically. Again, because of the cheerfulness of their wing, their fears may not be obvious.
“I have high hopes for our child. I've been reading all the scientific data on the best ways to raise children.”
"Have you spent any time with our child today? Kids need playtime in order to reach their full potential."
“So, what are your plans for maintaining our income this winter? You could do some fishing or foraging...If you do any mining, promise me you'll be careful.”
"So, what's your strategy for optimizing the farm this year?"
"Beautiful night, isn't it? Remember the first time we did this? It was a while ago…I almost revealed my true feelings on that night… but I was afraid you'd reject me."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 6w7 changes typical ENTP behaviour:
New Strengths
1. More Cautious
“Type 6 is the most cautious in the enneagram of personality. ENTP 6w7s inherit this trait. While other ENTPs are happy to throw caution to the wind, this personality type is terrified of it. This might not be pronounced as ENTP 6w7s might seem bubbly at first. However, they will resist any plan or idea that puts them at risk. This is reduced if their 7 wing is strong.” – Personality Hunt
Examples:
“Ahh! Be careful with that! Are you touching it with your bare hands?... Sorry... hehe... With proper handling, this will be perfect for an exotic machine I'm building.”
“How's your hand feeling? Let me see it... Hey, it looks all better!”
“Make sure you don't leave your tools out in the rain! You wouldn't want them to get all rusty.”
“Do I hear a leak in the roof? I'll have to check it out. I know a thing or two about carpentry from watching my mother.”
2. Handling Interactions Better
While ENTPs can be notorious for being internet trolls, ENTP 6w7s are anything but. ENTP 6w7s have a more developed Extroverted Feeling [Fe], making them much better at social interactions and reading social cues. This makes them tactful and understanding. However, ENTPs will still be blunt and straightforward when they need to be.
Examples:
“Willy mentioned that you helped fix the boat. Thanks for doing that!”
“If you have any extra metal laying around, I could always use it for one of my projects. But only if you don't need it yourself.”
“Some day I'm going to be a world-class inventor. You're lucky to be friends with me!...just kidding.”
“You have a point, I did program her to act human... but her neural net is so complex, I can't be sure consciousness didn't emerge on its own. Furthermore, isn't it a little arrogant to assume that human-like consciousness is the only worthwhile vessel of existence? Computer brains are different than ours, but that doesn't mean we can disregard them.”
3. More Loyal
Type 6s are known for being the loyal sceptic, and ENTP 6w7s are no exception. They have a tight-knit group of friends and family they depend on. They can also be devoted or dedicated to their community and causes they care about. However, they are still less likely to engage in risky behaviour, even if their friends do.
Examples:
“Hey, I guess we're sisters now! I'm glad that Sebastian found a way out of the basement...I wish you two all the best!
"Hey, congratulations! I remember the first time Penny told me she had feelings for you...She was all shy about it, but I knew right away it was serious... she wouldn't say something like that if she didn't mean it!"
"I'm glad to have a job at the clinic... I feel like I'm helping people in town.”
“I wonder how Penny is doing? Maybe I'll give her a call later today.”
“Hey, if any of your farming machines need to be fixed, just let me know.”
4. Slightly Better with Finances
ENTPs aren’t the best at managing money, but because ENTP 6w7s are concerned for the future, they tend to be much less likely to impulse purchase or go into debt. However, they are still ENTPs and long-term financial planning will still be a struggle.
Examples:
“So, what are your plans for maintaining our income this winter? You could do some fishing or foraging...If you do any mining, promise me you'll be careful.”
"So, what's your strategy for optimizing the farm this year?"
5. Enhanced Introverted Sensing
Introverted Sensing [Si] is the inferior function of ENTPs. This helps them remember past sensory experiences and how they relate to the present. Because Si is their weakest function, they tend to focus less on the past and more on the present and future possibilities with their dominant function, Extroverted Intuition [Ne].
However, because ENTP 6w7s have a greater access to their Si, it can also provide a sense of comfort and nostalgia similar to how INFPs use Si [ex: the taste of good food, memories attached to certain smells or sounds, etc.,] They also use their Si to recount negative past experiences and adjust their course of action, as necessary.
Examples:
“I'm really looking forward to having rhubarb pie in the spring. Oh... that tang, that zest!”
"Fall always reminds me of going out woodcutting with my mom... it might be that smell of freshly cut wood and sap."
“Ahh... the farm smells great, it reminds me of the mountains near my parent's house.”
“I can't decide if I'm craving chocolate cake or ripe strawberries. Or maybe both...?”
New Weaknesses
1. More Distrusting
“ENTP 6w7s have trust issues. This is down to type 6. So, you can expect them to be suspicious of people’s motives, ideas, or projects. This distrust might also extend to their career and romantic life. Again, it might not be too noticeable because of how cheerful they are.” – Personality Hunt
Examples:
“Be honest... am I gaining weight?”
“I hope you'd still like me even if I gained weight.”
“Sebastian hardly ever talks to me. I wonder if he even likes me at all? It's sad, I want to have a brother but he doesn't act like one.”
“You always seemed far too healthy to be at the clinic so often... Now it's all starting to make sense..."
"Really? Are you sure you're not just trying to flatter me?"
2. A Truckload of Fear
“Type 6 and type 7 are both in the fear triad. This means there’s a lot of fear in the ENTP 6w7. When faced with dangerous situations, ENTP 6w7s are more likely to withdraw than be counter-phobic. Their fearful nature can limit their progress and stop them from implementing their brilliant ideas.” – Personality Hunt
Examples:
"Of course he'll know the difference! This sample is completely ruined!”
“Hey! What's up? It's a good time to explore the caves. I would go but my Dad would flip.”
“Ummm... Don't break the news [about us dating] to my Dad, okay? I'll handle it.”
“My Dad is very logical, and my Mom is very intuitive. That difference leads to conflict, sometimes...”
3. Anxious
“With fear comes anxiety. ENTP 6w7s will have anxious thoughts. Because of their wing, they can distract themselves from these anxious thoughts [and hide them from others]. However, their anxiety becomes pronounced in dangerous situations. If they are unhealthy, it can lead to other serious health issues.” – Personality Hunt
Examples:
"I hope Dad's doing okay... he can get depressed in winter, when there's less opportunity for field research."
“Dad's been tracking the weather patterns for the last twenty years. It's a little too early to tell, but the results have revealed some abnormal trends.”
"The winters have been disturbingly mild lately."
"Mom and Dad are doing just fine. Their routine is still the same, even with me gone. How was your day?"
“Farmer, come closer. I'm cold. My hands are so dry from the winter air. I'm sorry about that.”
4. Less Optimistic
ENTPs usually have a contagious optimism, but ENTP 6w7s are slightly different. ENTP 6w7s generally are optimistic and upbeat when interacting with others, but they can become pessimistic and anxious when facing uncertainty or serious decisions.
Examples:
“I feel uninspired today.”
“I hope I don't catch the flu this year.”
“My hair gets so frizzy in this dry weather. *sigh*”
"I bet we'll start seeing more people at the clinic this season. I hope everyone stays healthy.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Maru's personality has been the hardest for me to pinpoint out of all the bachelors and bachelorettes. Her core fear doesn't stand out like the others, and her cheerful and personable attitude makes it hard to know what exactly she wants out of life. Both her parents are supportive, she has a steady job at the clinic, good friends like Penny and Harvey, and her talent for invention is unprecedented. At first glance, Maru seems to have it all.
But looking deeper past the veneer of her 'perfect life', we see a different side of Maru. She is fearful and riddled with anxiety, but hides it extremely well.
Her Enneagram 6 desire is to be secure, but her 7 wing makes this hard to notice at first glance. She doesn't want to let anyone down or disappoint her family. Gifted children have a lot of pressure and expectations placed on them from a young age, leading others to rely on them for support - often more than reasonable.
"Maru's a good kid. She's my special little girl…I wouldn't want anything getting in the way of her bright future, know what I mean?Just some food for thought… *chuckle*."
Maru fears her absence will burden others who depend on her so much [science experiments, woodcutting, clinic work, etc.] that if she pursues her own interests, she will be left alone and vulnerable without support. This fear gets to the point where she is afraid to vocalize her own dreams for the future.
"It's okay, Maru. Let MarILDA go free. Your mother and I can take care of ourselves. I know you're ready to start a life of your own, and I've come to terms with the thought of not having you around anymore."
However, through the unconditional support and encouragement of the farmer, she begins to take greater risks and stand up for herself, being more honest and straightforward with her parents.
"Farmer, I'm sorry I mistrusted you. You're a good guy. I've never seen Maru so lively and creative… and I've never been more proud of her. If you've had a hand in that, then you have my gratitude."
Gaining the support she needs in her marriage, Maru starts to be less anxious and more relaxed, beginning her path of Integration by taking on the positive traits of a 9w1: "Can we have spaghetti in bed tonight?",
"My day wasn't all that exciting… I stayed inside because of the weather. It was relaxing, though. I kicked back with the latest 'Schematics Weekly'."
"With a little planning, we could automate most of the farm work and just relax!"
"Taking a break? That's good!"
Do you agree that Maru is an ENTP 6w7? If not, what type do you think she is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Sebastian
Following my previous posts about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on Sebastian's MBTI and Enneagram.
Sebastian - INTP 5w4: “The Iconoclast”
“INTP 5w4 are very sufficient people. They pride themselves on being competent and self-sufficient. They strive to achieve this by gathering as much knowledge as they can. Thus, INTP 5w4 tries to avoid relying too much on others for anything. They are on a constant quest to discover as much as they can from the world and their various projects.” – Personality Hunt
Sebastian’s Core Desire: To be self-sufficient and significant
The core desire of the INTP 5w4 is to be self-sufficient. They want to stand out and be recognized for what they know and can do. Gaining knowledge and expertise is one way they do this, but they also want to be seen as unique and one-of-a-kind.
While Sebastian's core desire might not be obvious at first glance, after he gets to know the farmer a bit more, he starts to open up and share more intimate details about himself, albeit subtly. Apart from his dialogue, his chilly demeanour towards the farmer [at first] and his reluctance to attend community festivals indicate his desire for independence and individuality.
"If I just disappeared would it really matter?"
“I've always felt like an underdog. But the challenge will just make me stronger.”
“Once I've saved up enough money, I'm going to head out on my own... to the city and beyond. Just me and my bike.”
“I often felt unappreciated back home... but here I feel like I really belong. Thanks for making me feel welcome, Farmer.”
Sebastian’s Core Fear: Becoming incompetent [and needing to rely on others]
The core fear of the INTP 5w4 is becoming incompetent. They want to maintain their independence and live life on their own terms. They dread having their autonomy or identity taken away by depending on other people or systems for their needs.
For the same reasons why he doesn't share his core desire outright, Sebastian has difficulty sharing his weaknesses for fear of being seen as incompetent. However, once he feels safe sharing, we see him slowly reveal his fear of becoming dependent.
“You know, if I'd gone to college I'd probably be making six figures right now... but I just don't want to be part of that corporate rat race, you know?”
"Why ruin the potluck? Hmm… I guess some people feel liberated when the rigid structures of society break down a little. Maybe I'm weird."
“I wonder what's for dinner tonight... *grumble*” “I should learn how to cook. That would be useful.”
“I don't want to get soft now that I'm a married guy. Maybe I should start eating more hot pepper and working out? Just an idea...”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 5w4 changes typical INTP behaviour:
New Strengths
1. Interest in Art or Music
Because of their 4 wing, INTP 5w4s might be interested in art or music. However, whether it's a major passion for them or just a side hobby will depend on the strength of their wing.
We certainly see Sebastian's interest in music with his synthesizer skills; however, we also see art among his other niche hobbies, such as reading fiction, creating interesting snowmen, and even carving daggers out of obsidian.
Examples:
"I built a snowgoon but Demetrius made me get rid of it.” “Hey, me too. There's nothing like a good fiction to push the boundaries of the imagination.” “The show went well. I was kind of nervous beforehand, but once we went up on stage I just kinda got into the zone.”
“Is that obsidian? This is exactly what I've been looking for... I'm gonna see if I can shape it into a dagger.”
2. More Sensitive
Depending on the strength of their wing, INTP 5w4s might also have a sensitive side. This doesn't just apply to emotions, but a sensitivity to the environment and the 'vibes' it gives off. Thanks to their 4 wing, INTP 5w4s will likely have a more developed inferior function [Extroverted Feeling - Fe]; however, they will almost always put logic first.
Examples:
"Don't make fun of me... but I've never really had a girlfriend before.”
“Hey... It's been a year since we started dating, remember? It's been the best year of my life...”
“Demetrius has been all wound up because of [Maru’s] wedding, it's been pretty tense around the house.”
“My mom's freaking out, but I'm actually kind of enjoying this…I'm gonna stay here to try and keep her calm, though.”
“I come here for the peace and quiet.”
“I like winter but I do feel bad for all the cold animals out there. I guess they're used to it, though... like me.”
3. More Inclined to Learn on Their Own
Both type 5s and INTPs are passionate about learning, making the combination of both types make INTP 5w4s even more likely to dive into things independently and make tremendous progress. In fact, many self-taught professionals who have made major strides in their careers have been INTP 5w4s.
This is because type 5 wants to be self-sufficient and type 4 wants to be independent, meaning most 5w4s prefer to learn and obtain new information independently and without needing external initiative.
Examples:
"What are you trying to say... I need to work out? Well, I'm more of a 'nimble' guy... Maybe I'll read the first half.”
“I did some work on the laptop today. I was actually brainstorming some ideas for a game I want to make. With your farming income, I can afford to do what I want with my life. It's pretty amazing. Thank you.”
"I do freelance work as a programmer."
“*yawn*... I was up until 3 reading this new book...”
4. Outward Show of Affection
INTPs aren't the most natural or comfortable at outwardly expressing affection. Expressing affection or emotion can be challenging and awkward for INTPs due to Extroverted Feeling [Fe] being the lowest in their function stack. However, because their Fe is slightly more developed due to their wing, INTP 5w4s will be slightly better at it.
Sometimes this can take the form of writing or poetry, but regardless of the method, the partners of INTP 5w4s will certainly receive more outward expressions of love and affection.
Examples:
"Hey, another rainy day... perfect. You look cold... here, come closer.”
“Hey. Look at me. Never forget that I love you... you're everything to me. Now go make us some money.”
“Hey... come here. You look great today.”
5. More Isolated
INTP 5w4s are very introverted, even more so than 5w6s. Because of this, they tend to self-isolate frequently and require much more time alone than typical introverts. Because their minds are running at top speed 24/7, they need extra time to spend on their hobbies or interests or simply be alone to decompress.
Without sufficient alone time, they can become stressed, overwhelmed, or worst-case scenario, suffer a mental breakdown. This doesn't mean they don't need or want relationships, however. It simply means their introversion typically requires them to spend more time alone than with others.
Examples:
"I'm glad the path to the railroad tracks is open again. I like going up there when I feel like being alone...Which is often.”
"Why don't you tell me about your day when we're in bed tonight? I'm kind of busy right now..."
“You don't ever have to worry about me. I like to spend a lot of time alone.”
“The older I get, the less I'm drawn to the city. It had a certain mystique to it, once. But it turns out that was just a romantic fantasy. The city's so busy, so full of people... I don't belong there. I'm a loner.”
“I couldn't sleep last night so I went for a night ride on the motorcycle. I need to stay independent, even though we're married. That's just how I am. I still love you, though.”
New Weaknesses
1. More Detached
If INTP 5w4s don't find the right balance of alone and social time, they can quickly spiral from needing alone time to discarding their relationships entirely. This will ultimately cause harm to both the INTP 5w4 and those who care about them, sometimes causing irreparable damage.
On the other hand, sometimes INTP 5w4s can get so caught up in hobbies or intellectual pursuits that they forget to take care of practical things - like eating or doing laundry. While typical INTPs often struggle to meet their practical needs, INTP 5w4s increased tendency to detach makes this even worse.
Examples:
"I don't really need friends. You're the only person I need in my life. Is that weird? I guess I'm not like most people."
"When I take walks I do my best to avoid everyone. I hate being pressured into small talk."
“If you need to go see your friends in town, go ahead. I like being alone, anyways.”
"Sorry, I didn't make any dinner. We might have a frozen pizza in the fridge or something. I dunno, my mind was elsewhere. It's hard to remember to do chores...”
2. Extremely Stubborn
"INTP 5w4s will be a lot more stubborn than typical INTPs. 5w4s brings with it some core values that they live by.
Thus, INTP 5w4 will hold on to those values and resist any attempt to sway them. While this makes them less likely to be people-pleasers, it can also hold them back in many ways.
It might also make them believe that their point of view is always the right one." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
"Ugh... Tomorrow is the worst festival of the year by a mile. Just wait and see how stupid I look during the flower dance.”
“Oh... tomorrow's the flower dance, isn't it? Do we have to go? I hate wearing that ridiculous tight jumpsuit. Why does Lewis make us do this?”
[At the Flower Dance] “Ugh...” [At the Flower Dance] “I didn't come here by choice.”
[At the Flower Dance, Married] “Maybe we can sit this one out, since we’re old married people now?”
[At the Flower Dance, Married] “You're the only reason I came all the way out here...”
3. More Subjective
INTPs are typically rational people, but because of their wing, INTP 5w4s will look at things more subjectively than usual. Depending on the strength of their 4 wing, they may hold on to certain sentiments or ideas even after they've been proven wrong.
Sebastian seems to hold negative sentiments about living in Pelican Town; however, after befriending the farmer, he starts to see things from a different perspective, allowing him to start changing his mind about living long-term in Stardew Valley.
Examples:
"Out of all the places you could live, you chose Pelican Town?”
“You probably prefer the small-town life, huh?”
"Well, I'm trying to save up so I can move out of here. Probably to the city or something.”
“The city used to draw me in... but now I'm finding myself happier at home in the valley.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
INTP 5w4s as Melancholics
"The melancholy temperament is often a perfect fit for the INTP 5w4 because of their similarities. Melancholics are often described as intense, smart, and a bit pessimistic. INTP 5w4s are intense people. This is down to their analytical tendencies. The presence of their wing also makes them emotionally intense. However, this is suppressed." –Personality Hunt
Examples:
"I was thinking... people are like stones skipping over the water. Eventually we're going to sink."
“I dunno where I'd be without you... probably in a ditch somewhere.”
“Why does everyone like Maru so much? Sure, she's smart and friendly, but don't they realize it's all just an attention-grabbing scam.”
“What's the point of going outside? I've already seen it all.”
“I was *this* close to moping in bed the entire day. Kinda wish I had, now.”
“Nothing surprises me anymore... nothing makes me laugh. Yeah, I know... I'm being a little dramatic.”
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Sebastian is an interesting character to analyze. His loner attitude and self-isolating tendencies were challenging for me to decipher. Was he just being this way to be 'edgy', to 'stand apart' from the crowd, or was his behaviour part of his core personality? After looking through the game events and all his pre- and post-marriage dialogue, I believe both sentiments are true.
Sebastian's Enneagram type 5 desire for self-sufficiency, his wing 4 desire for individuality, and his MBTI cognitive strengths as an INTP, all explain why he acts the way he does - at least, in part. His transformation in-game isn't as dramatic as someone like Shane; however, we see him open up more and start finding his place in the world - away from that dark, windowless basement and toxic birth family.
With support from the farmer, he becomes a more positive, more devoted and affectionate partner, who, paradoxically, starts asserting true independence [such as quitting smoking] without abandoning the connections that matter to him most.
Do you agree that Sebastian is an INTP 5w4? If not, what type do you think he is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Shane
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear].
Here are my thoughts on Shane's Enneagram paired with his MBTI.
Shane - ISTP 5w6: “The Troubleshooter”
“ISTP 5w6s are analytical people who lean towards caution. This personality type is curious and passionate about their interests. Because of their wing, they are always cautious and look for all possible flaws before leaping.” – Personality Hunt
Shane’s Core Desire: To be self-sufficient
The core desire of the ISTP 5w6 is to be self-sufficient. ISTPs are naturally very independent and want to make their own way. To achieve this goal, they use their abilities to carve a niche for themselves, and honing their unique skills as 5w6s, they are often very successful.
“My life...It's a pathetic joke...Look at me...Why do I even try? ...*sob* I'm too small and stupid to... to take control of my life…”
"I want to feel like I'm not just a leech on the world. I want to contribute somehow, even in a small way like this.”
Shane’s Core Fear: To be dependent [a burden] on others
The core fear of the ISTP 5w6 is to be a burden on others, especially to those they care about. We see Shane struggle with his mental health and alcoholism through the game. He tries hard to fight his demons on his own, not wanting others to be held back by his personal issues.
It isn't until later in his character development that he learns to be okay with relying on others for help, that there are people who truly care about him, and that asking for their support isn't the burden or 'weakness' he believed it to be.
“I just feel like no matter how hard I try... I'm not strong enough to climb out of that hole.”
"Anyway... I just wanted to thank you for taking care of me. And I want you to know that I'm going to take things a little more seriously from now on. I don't want to be a burden on anyone…"
"You know, I sometimes forget that I really do have friends, people that care about me. And it's okay for me to rely on them... it doesn't make me weak.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 5w6 changes typical ISTP behaviour:
New Strengths
1. More Introverted
ISTPs are introverts and ISTP 5w6s are even more introverted. They have a lower social battery than typical ISTPs and need extra time alone to recharge. However, this doesn't mean they aren't assertive. They will put their foot down when they need to.
Examples:
“I hardly know you. Why are you talking to me?”
“What's the point of talking to me? I don't want any friends.”
“...I don't feel like talking to anyone.”
“It's a lot of effort to be friends with someone. It's easier to just be alone.”
2. More Loyal
"ISTP 5w6s are loyal people...Because [type 6] is their wing, ISTP 5w6s will have a measure of loyalty. Their loyalty extends to their friends, family, and even their workplace. While this is true, their loyalty will never be as strong as a core type 6." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“I... Well, I won't be living here forever, and I wanted to pass something on to Jas. I've been teaching her how to care for them.”
“I guess I've grown attached to Marnie and Jas. We're a ragtag bunch but it kind of feels like a weird family. I never really had much of a family as a kid.”
“I need to keep it together for Jas' sake. I don't want to be a bad role model for her.” “I'm kind of like a father figure to Jas. I just hope I haven't let her down too much.”
“Shane's hard at work. He doesn't seem interested in talking.”
“I may keep to myself a lot, and I may seem unhappy sometimes... but I do appreciate all the work you do. I'm a lucky guy.”
3. More Creative
ISTPs aren't known for being traditionally artistic, but they can be incredibly creative in their own way. This is even more true for ISTP 5w6s. They love to work with their hands and show their creativity in practical ways.
Examples:
"My special blue hens... I've been raising them in secret for the last few months.”
“We'll have the best eggs in the whole valley! Fresh and healthy, with rich golden yolks. Not like those pale, sickly Joja eggs...”
“Sounds great. I'll have to create a bunch of practical effects to make it look cool.”
"Hey! I want you to be in this shot... okay? Just walk by Clint and Emily in the background while they're talking... It'll give the scene a little more authenticity.”
4. More Cautious
ISTPs aren't known for being cautious. Their Extroverted Sensing [Se] makes them more prone to taking risks and testing new ideas. Being Preceievers means they also love being spontaneous. ISTP 5w6s are different. While they also enjoy these things, they are more hesitant and risk-averse than typical ISTPs.
This is because type 5 is interested in self-sufficiency, while type 6 is interested in being secure. They don't want to do anything that risks losing either of these, so they are much more cautious when taking risks or making decisions.
Examples:
“A chicken will never let you down. Humans, on the other hand...”
“It's weird, when I was younger I swore I'd never have a kid. I wonder what happened to me?”
“Hey. Sorry if I came off as rude when we first met. It takes me a while to warm up to strangers.”
5. More Prudent with Spending
Due to their cautious nature, ISTP 5w6s will be less impulsive with their spending, preferring to be more prudent with their finances. However, this doesn't mean they'll be perfect at budgeting or sticking to a budget.
Although Shane spends exorbitant amounts of money on beer and liquor early in-game, once he starts getting treatment for his mental health issues, we see him begin to spend his money much more wisely and carefully, like in his 8-heart cutscene with Jas.
Examples:
"I've cut back on an expensive habit. I have a lot more spending money now!”
6. More Logical
ISTPs are Thinkers, and being a type 5 makes an ISTP's logical thinking even more pronounced. This can have its pros and cons. A positive is ISTP 5w6s can make very sound logical decisions, but on the flip side, they can be insensitive to the feelings of others.
Examples:
“Life isn't fair, and I can't help but feel bitter about it.”
“Do me a favor... when I pass away, use my dust to fertilize some corn for the hens.”
“If I watch more TV maybe I can forget about life. That would be relaxing.”
“Sigh*... If only we could send the kids off to Joja work-camp for a season...I'm just kidding.”
New Weaknesses
1. More Detached
Type 5s are prone to becoming detached if absorbed in their hobbies or passions. This can harm an ISTPs relationship with friends and family if they aren't careful.
Examples:
"Welp... got my year's supply of Vitamin D. Now I can play video games with the blinds shut the rest of the year.”
“Ah... this is the life. No responsibilities, Tunnelers game tonight, fridge stocked with all the goodies a guy could need.”
“If you need to go see your friends in town, go ahead. I'm happy in the company of the TV and a couple of tall boys.”
“Ooo... my throbbing head. How many did I have last night?”
2. Fearful
Type 5 and type 6 are both in the Fear Triad, making 5w6s fearful people. This fear often influences their decisions, and combined with their need for self-sufficiency, can cause them to be stuck in a situation for too long.
Examples:
"You know, Charlie... I was thinking... A guy like me is always teetering on the edge of despair... know what I mean?”
“Here's a chance to finally take control of my life... These cliffs... bu... *blaap*... but I'm too scared, too anxious. Just like always...”
3. Prefer to Play it Safe
"Fear, cautiousness, and worry are all factors that influence their preference to play it safe. This usually means little or no risk and a lot of pessimism. While this has its benefits, the drawbacks are also obvious. ISTP 5w6s will miss out on opportunities and life in general by playing it too safe. - Personality Hunt
Examples:
"Every time I try something new it goes horribly wrong. You learn to just stay in a shell."
“Why try? Life's just a roll of the dice. When they rolled mine, the dice fell off the table.”
“You ever feel like... no matter what you do, you're gonna fail?... Like you're stuck in some miserable abyss and you're so deep you can't even see the light of day?”
4. Lower Energy Levels
Type 5s live in their heads. This, combined with ISTP's dominant function Introverted Thinking [Ti], they spend a lot of time logically breaking things down and reassembling them in their minds. This takes up a lot of energy, making implementing their ideas harder for ISTP 5w6s.
However, ISTPs are still action-oriented and will always strive to be somewhat productive.
Examples:
"Hoo... Feels good to rest these hams. If anyone needs me, I'll just be sitting here, marinating.”
“Buhh... I don't feel like being productive today.”
“Farmer, should I do something useful today?... or just nap forever?”
“I guess... if I had some pants I might've gone outside today... but, nah.”
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Due to his substance abuse and mental health issues, typing Shane was more challenging than the others. Though it can be hard to type fictional characters with 100% accuracy, given what we know about his character, how he responds to dealing with his alcoholism and depression, and his personal growth throughout the game, I believe there is strong evidence to suggest that Shane is an ISTP 5w6.
His Enneagram type 5 desire for self-sufficiency and independence, paired with his MBTI cognitive strengths as an ISTP, makes watching his character transform from a prickly, self-isolating man with severe alcohol addiction and spiralling mental health, into a brave, hard-working, and loyal friend/partner to the farmer heartwarming and inspirational.
Do you agree that Shane is an ISTP 5w6? If not, what type do you think he is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Alex
Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.
The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear]. So without further ado, here are my thoughts on each marriage candidate's Enneagram paired with their MBTI, starting with Alex.
Alex - ESTP 3w2: “The Ultimate Showman”
“ESTP 3w2 lives for the limelight and adoration. However, there’s more. The ESTP 3w2 is goal-oriented with a touch of generosity. They are the game-changers and dealbreakers. Because they have type 2 as a wing, they also want appreciation for their heroics. They turn the aggressive nature of the ESTP into something more entertaining to watch.” – Personality Hunt
Alex’s Core Desire: To be successful
The core desire of the ESTP 3w2 is to be successful. Alex's dream is to become a professional gridball player -- and enjoy all the fame and fortune that comes with it. He measures his success and sense of self-worth on external admiration and appreciation from others.
"You know, I used to want fame and fortune, but lately I've been starting to sing a different tune.”
“Yes... I know. That's why I've been so determined to be successful with my sports stuff...Make it or not... As long as I try my hardest, I think [my mom]'d be proud. Thanks.”
Alex’s Core Fear: To be seen as a failure
The core fear of the ESTP 3w2 is to be seen as a failure. Alex fears being viewed as a failure or worthless, especially by those closest to him. He perceives his sense of failure or worthlessness from external criticism or other's lack of appreciation [whether real or not].
“… [my dad] ruined everything for me and my mom… he'd drink all night and tell me I'm worthless, that I'd never amount to anything.”
“That's insane. You're just jealous that I'm talented and popular and you're not.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
How Enneagram 3w2 changes typical ESTP behaviour: New Strengths
1. Extra Charming
ESTPs are naturally charming, but ESTP 3w2s take this to a new level. Type 3s are excellent at persuasion and subtle manipulation, enhancing the ESTP's natural Extroverted Feeling [Fe] ability to woo and flatter others.
Examples:
“Hey, now that's what I'm talking about! You're cooler than I thought.”
"Heard you caught some kind of rare fish? I'm impressed. Your arms must be stronger than they look! pinch … not bad!"
"Hey, Farmer. Did you do something different with your hair? Something keeps grabbing my attention.",
"Hey, you look like you're getting into some good shape this summer! All that farm work is paying off, huh?"
2. More Helpful
Type 2s are known for being helpful, and because of this, ESTP 3w2s often find joy in helping others. Their motives might sometimes be questionable due to being type 3 but mature 3w2s can make generous and inspiring leaders.
Examples:
“If I ever make a lot of money, I'll make sure all my friends and family are taken care of. That means you, too.”
“I've been setting aside a few scraps for Dusty. He deserves a treat now and then.”
"Hey, honey! I made you a hot breakfast. If you want to get strong, you have to eat like you mean it!” "I'm still getting used to cooking and doing laundry… It's not exactly my favorite, but I knew what I was getting into when I married you." "There's a couple things around the house that I'm going to try and fix today. Don't worry about me, I'm not bored."
3. More Tactful
ESTPs are known for being blunt and tactless, but 3w2s realize that to help get what they want, being tactful has benefits. This only applies if they want to get close to someone or if it's with someone they respect. With everyone else, they typically don't care.
Examples:
“Oh wow...your shoes are a little dirty... but that's fine, too! Different people have different tastes I guess.” [Four Hearts] [Beach invite accept] "Of course you do. If you didn't I'd think you were crazy. Or some kind of nerd" [Beach invite rejection] "Really? You must be some kind of weirdo."
4. Better Work Ethic
The combination of Type 3 and ESTP makes them highly self-motivated and goal-oriented. As a result, ESTP 3w2s are true powerhouses of determination who go hard for their beliefs and stop at nothing to achieve their dreams.
Examples:
"I'm going to be the first professional gridball player from Stardew Valley… There's no doubt in my mind. I already led my school's team to the regional playoffs… Now I'm just training and getting stronger so I can claim my spot on the roster of the Zuzu City Tunnelers. You just wait!
5. More Disciplined
ESTPs aren't the most organized people, but because of the ESTP 3w2s' need to be successful, they are a bit more disciplined than typical ESTPs; However, they still tend to be scatterbrained in other aspects of life.
Examples:
“I'm going to do two hundred sit-ups tonight. I'm pretty dedicated, aren't I?”
“Oh, I almost forgot! It's my day for doing push-ups! Every time I do push-ups I try to do one more than last time.” “You have to work really hard if you want to achieve your maximum potential.”
“ My arms are really sore, but that's the sign of progress for a guy like me. I must've done a thousand push-ups yesterday.”
"Sorry my room is so messy. It's just hard to always remember to clean. I'm trying to get better, though."
6. Better Fashion Sense
Due to their primary function [Extroverted Sensing], ESTPs typically have an eye for beauty or aesthetically pleasing things. ESTP 3w2s, however, take their appearance much more seriously than just simple appreciation. Because type 2s and 3s are highly concerned with public appearances and reputation, ESTP 3w2s have a strong sense of fashion.
Examples:
“Did you get new pants? You're doing something right.”
“Did you do something different with your hair? Something keeps grabbing my attention.”
“If my hair wasn't so popular with the ladies, I swear I'd shave it all off in a second.”
"There's some weird people living in this town…like that guy Sebastian. Why does he wear black all the time? I don't get it."
New Weaknesses
1. Loss of Identity/Self-Awareness
ESTP 3w2s are masters at adapting to people's desires and emotions but they also risk losing their sense of self in others. As a result, ESTPs wear a facade for long periods. And when they have to drop the mask, they can't remember who they are.
Examples:
"I've started to realize that… well, that I've been really rude towards you in the past. You know, about going pro and all that. I guess I might not actually be cut out for professional sports… maybe it was just a childish dream… you know? " "Look at all these books. I haven't read a single one. Just the thought of cracking one open makes me nervous. But you can't make a decent living in this world without a brain…I'm worthless…"
2. Need for External Validation
Because ESTP 3w2s are self-image-focused, they highly value motivation and encouragement through external validation - it gives them the drive to keep pushing. The dangerous side is that they can view their accomplishments as less valuable if they don't receive recognition for their efforts. They can fish for compliments or get cranky if they don't feel appreciated. At worst, this can lead to serious self-doubt. But ESTPs are tenacious and will quickly bounce back regardless.
Examples:
"*sniff*... "Oh… Farmer. You saw me crying. ... "So… What are you thinking right now? "Well, there's no sense sitting around sniveling… let's head back to town. "Um… Farmer? Don't tell anyone I was crying. Okay?"
“Hey, can I ask you something? Do you think the ladies like my haircut?”
“Hey, I've been practicing twice as hard so I can turn pro and prove you wrong. You just wait.”
"Well, I'm not going to give up! If I work hard, I can do anything!"
3. Mild/Moderate People-Pleasing
"The need to be appreciated and to excel makes the ESTP 3w2s mild people-pleasers. However, make no mistake. The act of people-pleasing is only done when it benefits them. This personality type is always playing the long game. If people pleasing can get them there, so be it." - Personality Hunt
Examples:
“Hey Farmer girl. You've got a nice tan going. The more I practice this summer, the easier it'll be for me to go pro. Then you'd be able to say you knew me once. Cool, huh?” Hey, when I turn pro you can say you were my first "fan". Not bad, huh?
"Hey, you must be getting pretty strong working on that farm all day. Maybe you'll reach my level some day. Something to look forward to, huh?"
4. Chronic Workaholics
ESTP 3w2s have an incredible work ethic, but this can also be detrimental if they aren't careful. ESTP 3w2s who don't prioritize their health and relationships alongside their goals risk becoming workaholics. This is especially true if they become competitive or are trying to help someone else achieve their goals alongside their own. Their personal well-being and relationships often suffer as a result.
Examples:
“I've been trying to do more reading lately... I feel like I've been neglecting my brain for years because of my athletic obsession.”
5. Bad Financial Decisions
ESTPs aren't the best at managing money, and being a 3w2 makes this even worse. Because they want to impress others, they will often make extravagant purchases to look more successful or affluent than they really are. This can also apply if they want to appear helpful to others, giving expensive gifts beyond their financial means.
Examples:
“I got these new shoes yesterday 'cuz my old pair had a brown smudge. I just threw them into the garbage.” "Hey, Farmer. Before you head out…I hate to ask this… but can I have 5,000g? It's for a secret project I'm working on… I know we have a joint bank account, but I thought I should ask anyway."
"Thanks again for the money, Farmer. It was a fun project for me, and all the guys seem happy with it!"
------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
Though it can be challenging to type Alex [or any fictional character, for that matter] with 100% accuracy, given everything we know about his character and his personal growth throughout the game, I believe is strong evidence to suggest that Alex is an ESTP 3w2.
His Enneagram type 3 desire for fame and recognition, paired with his MBTI cognitive strengths as an ESTP, makes watching his character transform from an arrogant, superficial man with an unhealthy obsession with becoming a professional athlete into a caring, supportive, and devoted friend/partner to the farmer incredibly satisfying. Do you agree that Alex is an ESTP 3w2? If not, what type do you think he is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments :)

INFP 6w5 with luna moths deep in the Fi Forest. ---------------------------------------------------------------- A character study of my INFP 6w5 with a new dress and braided hair. Admittedly, I'm not very good at drawing backgrounds or creating atmosphere with light/colour, so I wanted to challenge myself more with this painting. It feels like my art 'muscles' are all wobbly and shaky, but I suppose strength is built with repetition and practice :) -------------------------------------------------------------- The darkest parts of the Fi forest receive very little light, making it hard for the unfamiliar to distinguish between night and day. This is because the top layer of the canopy is so thick that light can barely penetrate through the dense brush. Thankfully, having lived in the depths of the Forest for most of their lives, many xxFP 4's, 5's and 6's have expertly honed their Ne or Se to survive the precarious conditions. Monsters and demons thrive in dark places, making well-developed Sensing or Intuition necessary for inhabitants to protect themselves while avoiding unwanted and potentially lethal encounters. Strangely, their willingness to embrace darkness allows light to be found, even in the most unlikely places...

hello, what do you think the stardew valley romanceables’ mbti types are? Btw I love your art and your mods :D
Hi Swiftieee-13, Great question! Based on what we've seen in-game, including all their heart events, dialogue, and character development moments, here are my guesses on each bachelor and bachelorette's MBTI/Cognitive Functions: Bachelors: Alex- ESTP - [Se, Ti, Fe, Ni] Elliott - ISFP - [Fi, Se, Ni, Te] Harvey - ISFJ - [Si, Fe, Ti, Ne] Sam - ESFP - [Se, Fi, Te, Ni] Sebastian - INTP - [Ti, Ne, Si, Fe] Shane - ISTP - [Ti, Se, Ni, Fe] Bachelorettes: Abigail - ENFP - [Ne, Fi, Te, Si] Emily - ESFP - [Se, Fi, Te, Ni] Haley - ESTJ - [Te, Si, Ne, Fi] Leah - INFP - [Fi, Ne, Si, Te] Maru - ENTP - [Ne, Ti, Fe, Si] Penny - ESFJ - [Fe, Si, Ne, Ti] Not all characters fit the stereotypes of their MBTI, which is why I've based my theory more heavily on Cognitive Functions than the 4 letter typing system. Some characters have the same "type" [ex: Sam and Emily], but how they use their functions depends greatly on their interests, beliefs, life experiences, and personal development. Maturity and stages in life also impact how the functions will manifest and if they are well developed/balanced within the stack: Both Robin and Alex are ESTPs, but Robin is a mature woman in her 40s while Alex is still a young man in his early 20's. This difference in age and life experience has given Robin, in my opinion, more time to develop her inferior functions: Fe and Ni, making her more even-tempered, more socially 'smooth'/personable/empathetic, and less impulsive, in comparison to a young and developing ESTP like Alex.
I plan to add Enneagram types to each character at some point as well. MBTI and Enneagram pair wonderfully together and are great at fleshing out each character's complex inner makeup of "how?" and "why?".

Good day, Would you have an ETA on the Louvier Fromagerie content being updated? Thanks
Hi Lilac350, I had originally planned on having Louvier Fromagerie finished by September; however, I've encountered some unexpected health issues this summer that have seriously impacted my modmaking timelines. Because of this, I don't have an exact ETA on Louvier Fromagerie, but I hope to complete it sometime before the New Year. -Elaho

An INFP 2w1 ----------------------------------------
The Fe Sun Kingdom's territory encompasses wide open spaces where the sun's rays can easily reach, such as fields, meadows, valleys, plains, and plateaus -- but not any area where natural shade occurs, such as the Fi Forest.
Due to biological differences, xxFPs can't be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, making it nearly impossible to live outside the shelter of the Fi Forest, much less venture outside of it.
The Forest is vast and contains many different environments and ecosystems depending on the 'depth'. One aspect of the Forest is the perimeter which contains shorter trees with smaller leaves and a thinner treetop canopy. This allows for slightly larger pockets of sunlight through the canopy, but it is still dark enough to provide a safe atmosphere for xxFPs to stay long-term.
Though considered a dangerous and volatile environment, many xxFP 1s, 2s and 9s still choose to live there. It's unclear why, but some speculate that while some INFPs prefer the relative safety of the forest's dark heart, others long to overcome their fear of the sun and connect with those who live in the light-- getting as close to it as they can without getting burned.

ENFJ 2w3, Queen of the Sun Kingdom
---------------------------------------------------------- Community roles for Fe Kingdom inhabitants [xxFJs] are split into four distinct positions: Military [ENFJs], Academic [INFJs], Medical [ISFJs], and Government [ESFJs]. Kingdom ENFJS:
All ENFJs start their combat training once they are officially typed at 10-12 years old [once their secondary cognitive function is determined]. After they pass their apprenticeship at 19, they are required to perform active military duty for about 3-5 years before they are free to pursue other interests.
However, royal ENFJs are expected to serve in the kingdom military for life - until they are physically incapable of combat due to old age or serious injury. Even if physically incapable of combat, royals are still expected to provide lifelong guidance and mentorship as military advisors.
