I think we could normalize Killer bullying and getting angry Nightmare sometimes.

Like...Nightmare can REALLY be a pain the ass.

I mean, I like the fanon interactions with them, but I would also like to see how their dynamic would work in canon, y'know?

I believe that Killer probably would be annoyed with him.

So what he would do?

He would do pranks to him and bully him, not being scared with Nightmare's anger because he knows that his boss needs him. So he would piss him off because of this benefit.

Remember that fanart of Killer shoving Nightmare face in the snow? So...I imagining his bullying tatics being like this-

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Killer physically takes out all his repressed dissociated rage and spite on those he knows for sure he can harm and potentially get away with, such as Dream or Swap, if he can find a reason to get violent or to not hold back—such as Swap inviting himself in Killer’s space over and over again, fighting against Dream on the battlefield or trying to capture him on NM’s orders, etc.

Meanwhile, he verbally and psychologically bullies Nightmare; fucking with his emotions and his head right back. His ass would not be afraid or hesitant to gaslight Nightmare, nor to take glee in any pain or discomfort the old man is in.

But there definitely should be a lot more fanfics and fanart of Killer bullying Nightmare physically for fun and laughs. People have been drawing NM doing that to Killer for years and it was always depicted as funny jokes, so why not let Killer do the same thing right back. Nightmare deserves it. Let Killer throw him into the garbage bins or set him on fire, or peacefully dream about gouging out his only remaining eye, why not.

Ramble under cut!

Killer: based on the Black-tipped Reef Shark and a Thrasher Shark. His tail is long and whip like but you can’t appreciate it’s length bc it’s out of frame. He uses it to give his prey a concussion.

Horror: is a whale shark because he is a big softie, a gentle giant. I can only have so many octopi, and next to a shark of some kind that’s my second choice for him.

Dust: manta ray. My logic behind this choice works like this; hoodie = soft + covers you = blanket. Blanket + fish = stingray. Manta Rays don’t have stingers. But I gave Dust one anyway.

Dream/Molt: I was torn between a classic fish tail for him or something with tentacles. So I drew three forms for him. his designs are loosely inspired by cuttlefish and a specific killifish I’ve lost the name of.

Because Molt’s goop is tied to his role as a Guardian of Positivity of the multiverse, I was torn about whether not his mer-form should be goopy. I’m still indecisive about this.

If we went with his cuttlefish form, just like real cuttlefish he would be able change the color and texture of his body and tentacles. He can’t change the color of his bones or magic, of course.

This also one of the few AUs that you get to see the damage done to his ribcage. If only bc he doesn’t have three layers of fabric to hide it.

Regardless of the kind of mer-skele, Molt steers clear of deep open water. The scars across his ribs are a literal beacon in the dark, as his magic glows, and are just as likely to attract a predator as they are to attract curious small fish. As dusk falls, Molt hides himself away in caves and crevices in the reef or cliffs. He is a day time hunter by choice, but his brother still prefers to hunt at night.

Nightmare/Rem: i had two ideas for Rem, Octopus or Orca. Orca, because of the general importance that family plays in their social dynamic. And Octopus for classic fandom interpretation reasons.

If we are using the octopus type mer for Rem; like his brother, he can change the pattern and color of his body but not his bones or magic. Though he can change his color to almost any hue he wants, he prefers dark colors.

The dark markings on his bones may or may not be natural, and may or may not be caused by the same incident that nearly shattered his brother’s bones. :)

idea:

the star sanses finally capture nightmare’s gang. they bring them to an empty AU until they figure what to do with them. put them in jail? redeem them?

until then, the gang is separated, so that they can’t form an escape plan, so that they can’t influence each other. putting them in the same room together is too dangerous.

except the stars don’t realize they NEED each other. they don’t realize that they literally can’t function properly without the help of the others.

dust can’t be sure what’s real or fake without asking someone for help.

killer can’t work up the motivation to take care of himself without someone nagging him.

horror can’t handle the pain, or the brain fog without someone there to help, or at least to be quiet company.

cross can’t handle being left without a purpose, without someone for him to protect and love and be with.

nightmare tries to act normal, but he can’t handle being alone without someone to be with and cling to.

the stars could help them, but the gang is so tightly knit together that they’re practically completely co-dependant.

is it a ploy, or a trick? is this just a plan to get them back together? the stars, being unsure, don’t fall for it. they leave them separate.

and the gang starts to break.

But yes, Nightmare does get angry. To the point of becoming violently physically abusive and controlling, willing to violate Killer’s autonomy, soul, and mind to maintain control. It’s implied after this that Color and Killer only ever meet up in secret. Secret, forbidden friendship.

Hear me out.

A Nightmare who doesn't abuse and torture his men like canon Nightmare, but neither does he father them like Dadmare.

Instead, a Nightmare who lavishes rewards and power on his henchmen to virtually 'buy' their loyalty.

Because it's Basic Villiany 101:

The tyrant king who abuses his men inevitably gets overthrown in an uprising.

But the tyrant king who heaps rewards and prestige upon his men shows them that they're better off with him. Sure, to the rest of his subjects he's sadistic and terrifying, but to his loyal men, they get all the benefits of serving him without the punishments.

That's why I like a Nightmare that eases his Gang's psyches when they're having a flashback/LV spike. That's why I like a Nightmare that furnishes his Castle with opulence and riches. That's why I like a Nightmare that is gentle when he touches his henchmen, even though he's violent with the rest of the Multiverse.

Because they're his. And he treats his things with care and reverence. Serve him well, and you'll be richly rewarded.
