Now I’m interested in your dad’s take. If it’s not invasive, please share?
\(´∀`)/
HI HELLO!!!!!! I’d happy to share, I love talking about these things!!!!! It might get a bit rant-y but I promise I’m just trying to cover all bases :]
Some context: my dad grew up with cats, specifically the 1983 broadway album, which means that while he’s never seen the 1998 movie, he has seen the show live 2-3 times, (my family is pretty musical-my grandma saw the og show with Betty Buckley, and I’ve never been more jealous of anybody in my entire life).
So: we were talking about stuff and nonsense and I explained the newsies vs cats poll. Obviously he knew a bit about both shows, as I’d recently been in newsies and made him watch the Broadway version.
He of course immediately started talking about how many criticisms you could do of each show. It quickly devolved into him bitching about Skimbleshanks and Santa Fe, because he hates both of them in equal measure, (although Santa Fe may take the cake. He despises the entire plot line).
I brought up the criticism that many musical fans seem to have about cats: “it’s not about anything” or “it doesn’t have a theme/plot.”
“That’s just blatantly not true, munkustrap, (I called him gray cat guy in the conversion), explains the plot in the third song. You know, jellicles go to the jellicle layer, blah blah blah.”
“Well, sure,” said he, “but what’s the show really about then?”
“Uhhhhh,” I said, it being like 11 o clock at night, “it’s mostly about second chances and forgiveness, right?”
To which he said, no. Cats is about pride. More specifically, ego death.
All of the cats are prideful. The Rum Tum Tugger, obviously, but also the Gumbie cat, the old theater cat was the best there’s ever been, as featherfore-whatever his name was. You know, even the stupid train cat. They’re all walking around talking about how great they are, or were, except Grizabella.
She just says “hey, I’m here, I’m done, I’m down and out, and I’ve got nothing and no one. I’m just here. Times were great, but without the memory, I have nothing”
And that’s why they’re like YES. You get to go the heavyside layer. You get it. You deserve your second life.

So, Lyta tells Rose that it's been a few months for her, but Rose says it's only been a few hours. This tells us that, at least on occasion, there's Time Dilation between The Dreaming and the Waking World. So... my dad and I took this concept and fucking ran with it, jumping through hoops to do the stupid math.
1 Hour in the Waking World = 2.5 Months in The Dreaming
24 Hours/1 Day = 60 Months/5 Years
168 Hours/7 Days = 420 Months/35 Years
730 Hours/1 Month = 306,600 Months/25,550 Years
8670 Hours/1 Year = 2,658,222,000 Months/221,518,500 Years
106 Years = 23,480,961,000 Years
In conclusion, if the Time Dilation was consistent during his imprisonment, then while it was only a little over a century for Morpheus, it was much longer for his subjects.
Or, I'm shit at math and I royally fucked up. Either way, there is a heavily implied Time Dilation between The Waking World and The Dreaming and this means that while it was 106 years for Morpheus, for the subjects of The Dreaming, it was definitely waaaay longer and I cannot entirely blame the majority for believing he abandoned them.
That being said, all the more major props to Lucienne, Mervyn, Cain, Gregory, and Abel for sticking around as long as they did. Like, seriously. It was definitely at LEAST a couple thousand fucking years for them than it was for Morpheus but Lucienne straight out tells Morpheus that, despite that, she never felt abandoned.
Not to mention, Time Dilation is just how dreams and nightmares tend to work. You sleep for around 8 hours but you can dream what feels like days sometimes, depending on the dream.

I rlly love this pic of Vixie, it's a side of Her I've never really explored much? but seeing her all dressed up and fancy and she just looks so happy!!! It's the first piece where I ever felt actually gorgeous and I'm so glad I have it physically.
I've had people comment that it doesn't look like Vixie cause of the gray coloring? And I can see that, but I've never seen it that way, tbh - it was supposed to be a BW sketch, but for some reason they went ahead and colored some in and I love the way it makes her hair and dress pop.

As I work out the finer details of Loams magic system, a lot of very fun (read, horribly fucked up) possibilities open up to me
The most basic starting point for how to develop a magic system is to define:
1. What magic can do (practically anything, if you know what you're doing)
2. How does it feel to cast (you become literally connected to all the threads of reality, pulling them apart and weaving them together to suit your whims. More complex spells almost become weaving on a loom, to say nothing of multipersonspell circles where one person is weaving, one is deconstructing the exsisting tapesty, one is making new thread, and another is keeping it all from tangeling)
And 3. What are the consequences
And that's the one I'm really thinking about. It hits different depending, of course. Someone who did too many cantrips in a row suffers a lot less than someone who like, tried to alter a fundamental Law of existence and fucked up. It just makes sense.
I think there's sort of repetitive strain injuries, from overworking yourself, doing too much too fast. That looks more like migraines. At least at first. If you don't stop then strange things can start to happen as your body becomes fundamentally changed by the continued exposure to fucking up reality. Physical things like growing a tail or your skull changing shape, or even metaphysical things like gaining clairvoyance are all possibilities.
But then there's something more on the extraordinary side. If you tried to do something TOO big, or just monumentally fucked something up, then the resulting fallout of reality trying to snap back into place around you can be truely disastrous.
I dont think it's the same every time. One guy tried to go back in time and just erased his whole village from existence. I think someone probably exploded outwards into some sort of horrific giant monster toad a la soulsborn boss. Reality doesn't want to be changed, and when you fuck up it snaps back hard. Often pushing you far out of your rightful place
Idk this is all very nebulous still, if anyone wants to chat about it I'd love to

𝐂𝐗𝐈. Multiple layers of complexity behind Khaenri'ah's downfall.
I'm in the process of writing a headcanon that encompasses Dain's escape from Khaenri'ah to the purification of Sumeru and an interesting thought came to mind. Considering Chlothar's fascination for that Cryo Abyss Herald, I can't help but think that there could've been other people —who didn't turn into what we know as abyssal creatures yet— sharing that fascination and actually opposing (violently) those who even dared to rise a finger against them. It's interesting to remember the fishiness behind Knight Marshal Anfortas' actions and his way to clean his own mess up related to these creatures and that he took King Irmin's place until an Alberich stepped in to become the regent (whether Anfortas was an Alberich or not I can't say nor it's relevant for this). We're talking about people who potentially saw success in defying the orders of the world and finding a way to oppose the Heavenly Principles, transcending the boundaries between mortality and monstrosity immortality. So there might've been chances that the fight that must've waged in Khaenri'ah had multiple layers is very strong:
✦ The gods. ✧ Rhinedottir's creations. ✦ Untransformed people who favored the transformed ones (not into Hilichurls, but into mages, heralds, etc) + automatons if they were able to control them. ✧ Transcendent ones (mages, heralds, etc).

VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.

Please check on the fish doorbell once in a while :)

I wish we had more female characters like Eleanor Shellstrop. One of the most unlikable people you've ever met. Read a Buzzfeed article on most rude things you can do on a daily basis and decided to use that as a list of goals. Makes everyone's day worse just by being there. Dropped a margarita mix on the ground and tried to pick it up, only to get hit by a row of shopping carts which pushed her into the road where she was hit by a boner pill delivery truck, killing her instantly. Cannot keep a romantic partner despite being bisexual. Had a terrible childhood but will die before she gets therapy. Best employee at a scam company. Just the worst but also can't help but root for her to improve.
Absolute loser. Girl-failure. Bad at almost everything. Literally perfect female character.

the men and boys are innocent too.
we cry "the innocent women and children" to appeal to the masses, to try and force their sympathy, but the men and boys are innocent too.
I have seen sons crying out for their mothers, their fathers, their siblings. I have seen them break down at the loss of their families. I have seen them cling to their dead and grieve.
I have seen fathers cradle their dead children, seen them kiss their faces and hold their little hands. I have seen them faint with grief when asked to identify the dead. I have seen them carry their sons and daughters. I have seen them fasting to provide what little they can for their families.
I have seen men and boys digging through the rubble with just their bare hands, I have seen them comforting strangers, playing with children, rocking them, hushing them, even if the face of such imminent danger. I have seen them cry, seen them grieve, seen them break down into each other's arms, seen them be selfless, beyond selfless, becoming something I don't have a word for.
I have seen the men who are doctors refuse to leave their patients, even when they have no medicine or supplies to give them, even when they're threatened with bombings. I have seen fathers who have lost all their children pick orphans up into their arms and proclaim them their child so they are not alone. I have seen men and boys digging pets out of the rubble.
the men are innocent too. the men and boys are being hurt and killed too. the men and boys are grieving too. the men and boys are scared too. the men and boys are fighting to save their people too. the men and boys deserve to be fought for too.

We are well beyond canary in the coalmine warning levels with the way trans people and particularly trans women are treated on this site.
Maybe you've heard the metaphor of allowing wolves and sheep to share the same space, welcoming everyone. You end up with just wolves because allowing them in that space makes it unsafe for any sheep. Or the story about how a nazi goes into a dive bar and is refused service. The bartender then explains to someone else at the bar that if you serve them once they tell their friends and before you know it you're the nazi bar they all go to and normal customers don't feel safe.
Terfs and other bigots are seeing these targeted harassment campaigns succeed against trans women and rejoicing. They see Tumblr ban them and officially stand by those decisions as endorsement for their harassment. It's a sign to bigots across the internet that Tumblr is a good place for them.
And what's more is that a lot of us probably don't realize just how much trans women contribute to Tumblr. The women banned recently were sources of site-wide memes and posts I wasn't even aware originated from them.any years old memes and references can be traced back to trans women on this site.
How many of these folks have to be removed before this is no longer a site you want to be a part of it? Sure you cultivate your own experience, but you can't follow or interact with people who aren't here. And if I wanted to interact with the nazis and terfs I'd go to reddit.
I encourage everyone to reblog this. Trans women shouldn't have to be the only ones speaking out against the bigotry they're experiencing. They shouldn't be the only ones risking their blogs being nuked by staff. We have to stand with them.

thinking about how the hunger games were designed to prove that without society, order, government, someone to rule, we devolve into little more than animals, and how the games themselves prove over and over again that this is not true. We see it in every single game we witness.
Katniss placing flowers around Rue's body in the arena. Thresh sparing Katniss because she was kind to Rue, even though he was making it that much harder for himself to win.
Haymitch going back for Maysilee after hearing her scream even though their alliance had been broken. Haymitch holding her as she dies the same way Katniss did Rue.
Coral's "I can't have killed them all for nothing" when she realizes she's not going home. Lamina cutting down Marcus at great personal risk. And, my favorite moment in tbosas, Reaper collecting the bodies of his fellow tributes, his peers, even the ones who tried to kill him, into a pile. Taking the weapons from their hands. Closing their eyes and crossing their arms in the best approximation of a proper burial he can manage, covering them with the Capitol flag as a makeshift shroud.
The Games bring out the worst in people, yes. But despite the extreme circumstances, despite the exterior pressure of the Capitol, despite the fact that it could mean pain and heartbreak and death, it also shows that people have an enormous capacity for goodness. That even in a situation purposefully designed to make empathy impossible, people can't help but have it anyway.
Snow looks at the Games and all he can see is what's inside himself-- this pure animalistic drive to conquer and defeat. He kills and it feels good and he thinks that everyone else must feel that way too. He doesn't realize (maybe can't realize) that he is the exception, not the rule. He cannot see outside himself, outside his own warped perspective, to realize that the fact that people do show humanity in the games proves his entire worldview wrong.

i have such a love for characters who descend into madness or villainy out of deep, deep empathy. characters who fundamentally cannot cope with the cruel realities they find themselves in and blow up about it in spectacular fashion. fallen angel type characters with tears of outrage in their eyes. characters who break before they bend, and break so badly they splatter blood all over their noble ideals. every variation on it gets me so good
