I get why people do things like imagine fancasts, because it's oddly fun, in a boring yet also kind of addictive way. For example: imagining a casting of the Justice League were they to have gotten any sort of adaptation in the 60s or 70s or even 80s. Some casting choices are really easy for (Adam West would definitely be Batman, Lynda Carter would presumably be Wonder Woman, Dick van Dyke just has to be Elongated Man, etc). But then there's the harder ones. Who'd be The Flash (Barry Allen)? Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)? The Atom? Black Canary? And more. There's so many characters, even just amongst the justice league. So there's a lot of things to think of. Just the same way, though, there's a lot of ways to end up drawing blanks. Because I can't really imagine any good actors for Green Lantern, The Atom, The Flash, etc. If anyone seeing this post has had thoughts about this before, i'm fine hearing other people's thoughts on all this.

Back during the first few pages of Identity Crisis, the Elongated Man is doing a steakout with Firehawk. Ralph was treated as kind of a clown but he was originally a take on Dashiell Hammet's The Thin Man, with his wife Sue playing Nora to his Nick. He was called "the Ductile Detective" and was often considered (when anyone remembered) to be as good if not better a sleuth than the Dark Knight.

One of his quirks was wiggling his nose when he "smelled a mystery." Firehawk says something like, "Green Arrow says you fake that." Ralph looks her dead in the eye and, after a beat, replies, "Green Arrow wears that hat to cover up where he's balding."

So, even his fellow JLA-ers have his number, there.

I was watching Batman brave and the bold, knights of tomorrow. They made Green Arrow balding! I can't get over it!

Elongated Man is hilarious here. Fame is the name of the game! He's genuinely baffled that Sylvester Pemberton prefers to go by Star Spangled Kid. And that's just so funny. Ralph is an attention bound who loves solving mysteries, and I genuinely like that. I realize I stop reading most comics around 1985 or 1986 (so I don't have much authority here), but I think Ralph Dibny and Booster Gold would get along swimmingly, based on this interaction here. (Justice League of America #159):

I'm no art scholar, but I know a few things about comics. MAD Magazine Maestro Don Martin taught us that illustrated sound effects matter. A gut-punch produces an exhalation – like, OOF or UGH – not an exclamation – "EEYAH!"

A punch to the gut is a THUD or THUMP. Ralph Dibney, The Elongated Man, has just used his face to 'punch' a villain's yarbles. "GLONNGG" they ring, like clappers in a bell.
