Hate it when a show's "comic relief character" is literally just a nice dude that gets bullied
Especially when it's their family being assholes like why don't you like your kid? Why is everyone okay with it?
It's always in kids shows and there's always some kind of "do you guys actually like me" moment where everyone just looks at eachother like šš¬ and I don't get why
1. We put that shit in kids shows? And get shocked when kids are mean to eachother?
2. That's such a popular troupe? Like it can be a good storyline but they never treat it like it actually is bullying
3. Whenever they stand up for themselves they either get laughed at for it or they take it back like "okay nevermind we're fine š"
#the comic relief character is never treated like an actual person and i hate it every time#bullying is bad#which is a controversial take for some reason#comic relief#character tropes#tropes i hate#kids shows#tv shows#shows

As a Gambit fan, Iāve never been so salty about Romy in my life. (This is going to come across very anti Rogue, very sorry I know sheās your fav but I need this off my chest)
After their wedding youād think things would get better but they never did, if anything itās worse. Heās made to be comic relief and an overall joke for Rogue and thatās just not Gambit. Heās incompetent every time heās with her and itās gross. Over the last few Rogue and Gambit runs itās clear as day she doesnāt love or respect him, sheās written like she hates him and thatās her husband? Nope. He needs to be free of her. Heās had so many fantastic relationships with people who genuinely like him, who are friends with him. Rogue and Gambit have only ever had sexual tension and pointless drama. They had their roll in the hay, tried the whole relationship for waaaaaay too long and it didnāt work. Romy is a toxic mess. Them being married hasnāt sloved it, nothing will. Gambit deserves better. She doesnāt love him and she never will. She doesnāt respect him or care about him unless heās with someone else or in the ā97 case, dead then sheās all about āher manā.
Gambit should be with someone who cares for him as a person not just as a sexy toy to parade around. He needs a healthy loving relationship and Rogue isnāt it. Not to mention all the mess with Mystique. When has Rogue ever defended him from her? Her mother has tried to kill him and has even sexually assaulted him yet thatās all in the past to play happy families for Rogue, Mystique still bitches and hates on him and now her wife does too and all we have from Rogue is āSheās my mama you have to trust herā YUCK! The trauma that man has been through for Rogue is horrendous. Roles reversed Gambit would be cancelled but Rogueās a hot woman so fans think itās cool to be abusive to your partner.
It feels like Romy fans are actually just Rogue fans because Remy is treated like dirt and thatās celebrated. Theyāre (not all of them, some ship and let ship and can appreciate the flaws in both characters and all of the writing) genuinely the worst comic fans in Marvel history, I think youāre the first Romy fan I havenāt blocked because you get his character. Itās so disheartening to see one of the best and most underrated characters used like a sex toy and a verbal punching bag. Justice for Remy because wheeew! Marvel wonāt give it to him.
Rogue is my favorite female character BUT Gambit is above all, I would kill and die for him. So your verbal diarrhea is totally welcome. There's not much I can contribute because you've said it all and it's (sadly) true. But I will highlight two things: ''Roles reversed Gambit would be cancelled but Rogue's a hot woman so fans think it's cool to be abusive to your partner.'' ''It feels like Romy fans are actually just Rogue fans because Remy is treated like dirt and that's celebrated.'' Although writers/director are to blame for warping both characters every chance they get and not knowing how to write a mature couple, I too always felt that it's part of Rogue being a bitch to Gambit, it's something she can't seem to help. In the case of x men'97 I would like that from season 2 and until the definitive end of the series, they stay apart, just as teammates. I think it's the best and the fairest thing to do. As for the comics, I honestly can't think of anyone Remy could be in a serious relationship with. Well, not that he should be with anyone. I've been wanting to see him solo for a long time, just him on his own adventures, more of the guild, etc.

Thinking about reigen and mob again. A bit sleepy so this'll read really oddly.
Do you ever just think about how reigen doesn't actually know how much influence he's given to mob since day one. Like he always claims he's his mentor and always says he's given mob the best advice anyone ever could in his position, but i don't think he even believes it.
I'm a firm believer that reigen doesn't believe in his own lies. He may come off as confident when spewing them out and he knows he can fool others but he can't fool himself. That's what his character's all about; he knows he's a fraud. It's his career, fgs. He knows nothing he says is ever true and he hates himself for it.
So i don't think he fully realises how much his words stuck to mob. It was literally the back bone of the series' arcs. NONE of the things that happened would have happened or been the way that it was if reigen had never met mob and taken up his role as a 'mentor' of sorts. Mob actually learnt more from reigen than he could ever believe. Mob wouldn't have approached any of the villains with compassion and no intent to harm them if it wasn't reigen who told him not to use his powers against people/for harmful purposes. Mob wouldn't have such a strong moral ground (or, well, as strong) if reigen hadn't told him being a good person was enough the first day they met. Even in the hanazawa teruki arc it was CLEAR that his actions stemmed from reigen's words.
Reigen is (mostly) the reason mob is the way that he is. He literally helped shape mob to becoming a better person and he doesn't even fully realise it. That's why he's an important character that drives the plot even if subtly. Which is also why I'm a little upset that the series treats him as comic relief a majority of the time and why i hold the separation arc so, so very close to my chest because it gives us so much depth to reigen's character.
Another reason the separation arc was really important to the story is cos there's an almost-parallel in the way reigen told mob he just needed to be a good person to be enough and the scene where mob told him that he sees reigen as who he is: a good person. And it just twists and pulls at my heartstrings how the words probably meant so much for someone with such low self-esteem. That scene is absolutely VITAL because it was probably one of the reasons reigen confronted and revealed his 'true self' to mob in the ???% arc.
It's because he realises mob sticks with him despite everything because mob views him as a good person, not because of the lie that he's also a psychic or the empty promise that'd he'd be an exceptional mentor to develop and train mob's powers. And i fully believe reigen feels the same way towards mob; maybe at first he had used him and his powers, but along the line he clearly grows affection and cares about mob too deeply and doesn't see him differently with or without his powers.
And that realisation is what led to mob calming down when he went berserk in the ???% arc. And isn't it just brilliant how that's literally the same thing mob's been doing to other villains???
Two common themes in the series are 1. Second chances and 2. Emotional repression and (eventually) connection/revelation. In most of the arcs mob gives the antagonists a 'second chance' to become a better person and make them want to choose a better path by emotionally connecting to them, like how he shows teru he doesn't need his powers to have some semblance of 'worth' or how he shows suzuki that they are one and the same and choosing a better path won't ruin your life or make it any less good.
I say 'emotional repression' as a common theme because there are characters who shut their feelings out and instead fill The Void with other things (Dimple wanting recognition/acknowledgement and thinking he could achieve that through becoming a god) or characters who want to seem like they're Worth Something (Teru, Suzuki, other (ex) Claw members) or having the desire to seem like a better person and thus hide their true selves/put on a facade due to incredibly low self-esteem (Reigen). Mob made them all realise they don't need to do the things they do in favour of fulfilling that negative, unprocessed feelings.
There is an irony in the way that it also applies to mob. He's been repressing his powers his whole life because he loathes and is fearful of that part of himself, and if that's not a metaphor to emotional repression then I don't know what is. And reigen ALSO loathing a part of himself led to the confrontation scene at the climax of the ???% arc because mob sees himself REFLECTED in reigen and knows it takes courage to reveal that part and accept it as part of yourself which means that he's ALLOWED to embrace that part of himself TOO and it's just. That parallel between their characters is just. I'm. I am so. I just. And it's just. I think it. I just. It's very. I. Does this even. Does this. Make any sense. Can anyone hear me. Hello is anyone there do you see what i'm trying to say here guys im literally breaking down over this please oh my god can't you see how much fucking. How this is. Can't you see do you get it do you understand CAN ANYONE HEAR ME

One of my least favourite things about the heroes of Olympus series, is just how DIRTY Rick did Percy.
Like in the og series, Percy was an actual good character who was actually portrayed as someone strong with character development.
In the heroes of Olympus, he just made Percy downright dumb. Like, Percy was my favourite character for a while but then I read heroes of Olympus and he annoyed me SO much.
Likeā¦ whereās the Percy who tricked Briaes, the hundred handed one, into a game of rock, paper, scissors, and WON?? Whereās my guy who fought Ares at TWELVE??? Whereās my dude who gained ARTEMISā TRUST??? PULLED 5 PEOPLE IN A SINGLE BOOK??? WHERE ARE YOU???
Rick honestly made Percy soā¦ annoying? Boring? Weak?
Like EVERYONE ELSE, including Annabeth, had SUCH good Chapters (yes, including Jason bc I love him), but PERCY WAS LITERALLY JUST SO DUMB.
Iām not kidding when I say I downright LOATHED him.
Rick even changed his FATAL FLAW???
What happened to personal loyalty??? When did it become not being able to step away?? When Kym told him that he would finally have to face his fatal flaw, there was only like a sentence where Frank stopped him to not join Jason, Piper and Leo???
LIKE THE REASON I AGREED WITH NICO SO MUCH IS BECAUSE HOW DISAPPOINTING PERCY WAS?? When he saw Percy as a regular guy and not some cool hero, I FULLY AGREED.
WHAT WAS THAT RICK???
He downgraded Percy so much just to make the newer characters have bigger parts, which I get, but absolutely hated.
I was so excited to see Percy in a new series and only got disappointed. His chapters? Mainly used for comic relief. His fights? After Mark of Athena his only good one was with Akhlys, which he never actually got to win (still mad at Rick for making Annabeth stop him š) and all the others he either got pretty injured and the others did some AWESOME stuff while he literally just sat there??
Like no wonder Piper wasnāt impressed. I WOULDNāT BE EITHER???
EVERYONE treated him like he was a dumbass, which I would normally argue with if you told me he was dumb in his series, but in HOO?? Iād be wrong if I did.
He has honestly just no point in being there?? Like Annabeth spent MONTHS searching for him, and I feel like she just doesnāt really care about him that much anymore and has probably become more used to being alone than being with him. She had more dynamic with Piper and Reyna than she had with Percy.
They had likeā¦ the judo flip?? Thatās it. They also had like a kiss in Athens underground?? Piper made it sound awkward for her so it made me feel awkward.
Annabeth got along super well with Leo, Jason and Piper, so why didnāt Percy talk that much with Hazel and Frank?? They literally all went on a quest together and they spent more time with Leo.
Everyone on the Argo was all friendly and connected. Ex: Piper with LITERALLY EVERYONE EXCEPT PERCY. Annabeth with LITERALLY EVERYONE with the OCCASIONAL PERCY.
He was basically only connected with Annabeth, who kinda grew used to not needing him, while Percy still absolutely loved her. Heck, Annabeth was scared AND angry at Percy after Tartarus.
Once again, Annabeth had honestly a whole bunch of character development while Percy was SOLELY used for comedy.
That fight with Kymopoleia? WHY WAS HE SO DUMB?? Like in the Percy Jackson series, HE WOULD NOT HAVE JUMPED IN HEAD FIRST. It also made me mad that JASON was the one who ending up bringing them to victory when they were UNDERWATER? LIKE WHERE WAS COOL, DARK PERCY?? I know Percy said he was afraid of controlling the poison since Tartarus but still??
His chapters? Bleh. His fight scenes? Even more bleh. His character connections? Iāve had more dynamic with my morning toast.
I have SO much more to say, but Iāve literally written an essay so Iāll end this here.

I know I already brought this point up before, but thinking about it further made me realize how out of their way they went to set this up.
I'm pretty sure "Derision" did all of THAT to Kim's character - despite his growth in the last seasons - because from season 6 onwards he'll be used as the new main slapstick comic relief team mate Ladybug can get angry at for "badly timed jokes she personally didn't like in that moment" and use him as object and tool.
That's why Kim was now characterized as a MEAN-SPIRITED incel jokester
As Marinette's first love interest who hurt her so much that she's traumatized
Who likes and still LOVES ChloƩ and thinks she's funny for what they are doing while bullying, and says all that in front of his girlfriend
Kim as King Monkey has the same 'animal comic relief' energy as Adrichat was stuck with pre-s5 to the point where Adrien in "Penalteam" even outright called his treatment "animal abuse" but the show keeps insisting that it's all his fault and Marinette is being the kindest and most justified leader imaginable, no matter what horrible thing she does to him because it's never her fault anymore.
Marinette got too much 'unjustified and mean' hate for having done it to her kind and abused love interest, so now they just turned King Monkey into a base line mean-spirited, legit stupid, and easy to hate scapegoat team member so the show can continue having her to it to show that "she was never WRONG in the first place", Adrien just finally "learned his lesson" through being physically and emotionally beaten into shape, but Kim is just so... HIMSELF that she will unfortunately 'have to' continue doing it :(
No matter how badly that reflects on her leadership that she can't keep her team in check any other way and that she let's him stay at all. But they'll probably blame that on Fu because Kim is besides Chat the only person in her normal team constellation (so FĆ©lix doesn't count for this) she didn't choose "so naturally there is a pattern with how she 'must treat them' so they act accordingly to her leadership standards and properly respect her"
Adrien, Kim, ChloƩ, and Lila/ Cerise. Funny how there is always a pattern in the treatment of the holders Marinette didn't cherry-pick. FƩlix here truly is the one that got away because he's a writers' darling.
I know, I should be glad that this means Adrichat is going to keep his better treatment that actually allowes human rights and dignity for him in Maribug's leadership. But this isn't going to actually take care of the problem I have with Marinette being depicted like that as leader as an "empowerment" message.
I want her to be a good leader and role model and not just constantly have the show claim that as long as the episodes say that "she hurts the right people" to make sure she gets the respect and reward she wants but doesn't owe it to anyone to give it in return :/
#Ml Derision critical#Ml speculation#Ml Kim#Ml king monkey#I hope I'm wrong about this but this makes too much sense and I hate that#I honestly miss loving Marinette so much but nothing realistically leads to a conclusion I like anymore for her

āThe Searchā Rewrites, Book 4: Air, Leaks, and A Call for Help from the Fandom
Iāve talked a little about the Book 4: Air restoration project @book4air. If you havenāt seen it yet, check it out! Three full episodes are already out and episode 4 is going to cover Zukoās early days right after his banishment, exploring his relationship with Iroh and the world as Zuko understands it as a lost boy rapidly coming into manhood.
Wait until you hear the VAās performance with music and everything! Itāll break your heart.
But I want to talk a little bit about what comes after these next few episodes: our adaptation of āThe Searchā.
If youāve seen our adaptation of āThe Promiseā, youāll know it was quite faithful. This wonāt be the case for āThe Searchā. For the purposes of the overarching story we are telling, this story is getting overhauled. (Please still support the original release if youād like to see the canon version).
The biggest change thatās been announced is the addition of Toph. The team felt that a story about family, identity, and faces could benefit from including Tophās perspective as she comes from a unique but toxic family situation, has a strong conflict between the performance expected of her versus who she really is, and is completely blind and so faces donāt even register for her.
Here is the sample scene we released:
youtube
But I want to talk a little bit about what we are changing about Zuko and Azulaās roles in the story. While the set up is virtually unchanged, there is one small alteration that makes a big difference.
(Sorry for the poor quality, this is technically unreleased content and Iām being kinda risky leaking it.)
Ursaās letters are now a diary. This means that rather than get random flashbacks, the narrative framing now becomes Zuko and Azula reading these entries together. As a result, they get to discuss their discoveries about their family, and even share each otherās perspectives.
What that means is that when things like Zuko dangling Azula over the cliff happen, now we actually are forced to address it. The characters have to talk about how they treat each other and the reasons why. They have to confront the toxic family dynamic theyāve been forced and groomed into since childhood. Zuko has to realize his mentally ill little sister isnāt the monster here and in fact heās the one with all the power now, and Azula has to realize that Zuko can be trusted if she can let go of her fear long enough to talk to him about her vulnerabilities.
We also address issues like this:
Many people criticize this for being OOC, but I think thereās a way this could easily not be. Sokka has been known to be juvenile and reactionary as a first response, the difference is that he always eventually apologizes and learns from his mistakes. Without even needing to be asked.
Threatening a mentally ill person who has just been removed from an asylumāeven as a jokeāis not okay. It would be questionable even if theyād been friends before this, but considering their prior relationship it really does seem like an boneheaded lack of awareness or compassion for how triggering this could be.
So rather than remove this interaction, we addressed it. And I am really taking a risk posting this here, but here is a brand new script page:
Sokka isnāt just comic relief. Sokka is smart, Sokka is compassionate, Sokka is brave, and Sokka knows when itās time to apologize and reach out versus when itās time to fight.
Safe to say, there are several things that stay the same and we tried to keep faithful to the spirit of the story, but thereās a lot we wanted to do for the Gaang and for the Fire Sibs, and I hope youāll join us on this adventure, whether youāre a diehard fan of the comics and just looking for a fun AU, or you hate the comics and would like a rewrite, or even if youāve never read them and would just love to return to the world of ATLA.
The only trouble is, we canāt do it alone. The project is very expensive and time consuming to produce. Our team pays for everything out of pocket and some of us donāt even have reliable housing, so itās been a hard time.
If you can help in any way, even only by spreading the word so YouTube will stop burying us in the algorithm, that would be huge!
If you can afford to help, we have a Patreon where you can get all sorts of early goodies.
Reblogs and comments greatly appreciated! As the head writer and voice of Azula, this project is very near and dear to me. Avatar was my first pro-writing gig when I was just a homeless 19 year old, and itās here for me again as I struggle to rebuild my life and health that COVID destroyed.
I love this series and the community that has helped me through the hardest times in my life. I canāt wait to make something beautiful with you all!

helluva boss female character personalities are completely based on their relationship to male characters that we're supposed to like
the ladies who have either no relationship or a negative relationship with the likable men are bitches 100% of the time. they are rude and stupid and have no other traits and we are just supposed to hate them. (incl. stella, the 2 clown girls from the latest episode, that karen from the drs office- scratch that, every single female comic relief background character)
on the other hand the ladies who are attached to the likable male characters are always shown in a positive light no matter how rude they are (loona, blitzo's sister). this is also the only time we see nice female characters (millie, beelzebub, octavia).
it's kind of funny how straight up sexist it is atp
Exactly! It's kind of like a back-and-forth thing with these characters.
Females who have no relation to the male protagonists = bad guys and we should hate them.
Females who do have a relationship with male protagonists, but treat them horribly anyway and are otherwise left alone = Let's root for them!!!
Some people would only give Loona and Barbie a pass simply because they have (or had in Barbie's case) a certain relationship with Blitzo (a character we're supposed to be rooting for). With Loona, if it's not her being a bangable furry then it's her traumatic past that makes her behavior and actions excusable. She could make fun of Moxxie and call him fat every single time like she's been doing, she could be hostile out of nowhere or distant around people who try to be nice to her (e.g. S1, EP 8), she could say the most hurtful thing possible to Blitzo and act like she hates him, even try to hurt him physically and we're supposed to look at it as "Oh, it's just a traumatic response. She's actually really likable".
. . . I'm sorry. I'm not buying it. No matter how you look at it, calling someone fat, physically abusing a loved one, disrespecting a loved one, and just downright being hostile to someone who doesn't deserve it makes you a bad person! Loona did all those things, making her a bad person. What- when she's beating on Blitzo and kicking his balls in, do you expect me to be like, "Aww! She just needs a hug!"
I can't say much about Barbie, cuz we don't know why she doesn't like Blitzo. I mean- It could only be because she possibly believes he's the reason for the circus's shambles and their mother's death, but it's not confirmed. But in her case, it's more that we see her in the wrong for being hostile to Blitzo and that's supposed to make us feel bad for him. It's been happening with these characters a lot and it's annoying. That includes Stolas with Octavia.
I can't dislike Octavia like how I dislike Loona. I never disliked her. I love Octavia! She is far from being a terrible character. I never said she was one. If anything, I feel bad for her. But right now, it seems to me that she's only a tool character to make Stolas seem pitiful. As a father, Stolas made some pretty crappy decisions and Octavia can only get mad for a little bit until the last minute of the episode when she has a change of heart and willingly forgives him as well as give him a full apology when HE was the one that screwed up. And yes, he was going to say sorry . . . until she stopped him mid-sentence so she could apologize. That just shows us that she feels she's wrong for running away from him, even though he was the one that screwed up. My girl deserves better than this.

Apologies, but Iām about to over analyze a very old meme in the middle of the night because I canāt sleep. And Iām about to talk about the lord of the rings movies more than the books because even though Iāve read the books, Iāve watched the movies more. Also, the meme is about the movies, so leave my tired ass alone.
So I kind of hate the fellowship at 100% vs 99% strength meme because Iāve seen people talk about it seriously and I think thatās a fundamental misunderstanding of the way the characters function in the story. Like Iām sorry but if you think any single character in the fellowship is more important than the others instead of just a personal favorite, youāre just textually wrong. And this is about to get long so brace yourself. But also if you hate long things, why the fuck are you here?
Aragorn and Sam are spectacular characters that are necessary to the success of the mission but not disproportionately to the whole. Because the whole is the point. The fellowship is the point. Even Boromir, whose direct actions are arguably the least due to dying early, has long reaching effects even after his death. If Boromir was never there, things donāt go the same and may not even go as well long term. Does Aragorn even accept his role as much or as quickly if he doesnāt have Boromirās dying breath calling him his king? Iād argue no. However I will admit that this character is the one I have the least arguments for other than ātrust me, broā and āthatās my baby, and Iām really proudā while exhausted.
I feel silly even pointing out what Gandalfās impact is since heās the reason the journey can even start to begin with. Without him, Frodo gets a weird ring from Bilbo and then dies before heās 50 because he treats it like a random trinket and is the easiest target the NazgĆ»l have ever tracked. Gandalf also saves the entire fellowship from the Balrog and is the reason King ThĆ©oden becomes available as an ally instead of being Godās crustiest hindrance. In general, the intricate removal of Sarumanās direct impact requires a wizard. Also, if heās not there, who gets that worldās greatest grandpapa mug I made?
Legolas and Gimli are married so Iām talking about them together. Beyond the fact Gimli almost becomes Galadrielās favorite side ho, the two donāt have a ton of solo story beats in the movies. However, what they lack in specific moments they make up for by being absolute monsters on the battlefield. Aragorn canāt do most of the shit he does without my gay uncles backing him up. There are literal battles that would have failed and in a war where theyāre already outnumbered and outmatched, you actually canāt afford more loss.
Merry and Pippin are eternal besties so theyāre also getting talked about together. Initially theyāre treated as comic relief and at times even a hindrance in the movies, but they do step up. The Ents go to war because of Merry and Pippin. And the Ents are necessary for dealing with Isengard. Take them out and the war still has an orc factory that can just overwhelm the war with numbers alone. They also have direct impacts on Gondor and Rohan in ways Iām too tired to get into. Also, Pippin sings like an angel even when a gross old man is eating in grossest way possible. Talent. He has the range.
And now weāre down to the main crux of serious arguments Iāve seen. Sam and Frodo. Both of them ring bearers. Is Sam way more important than Frodo? Absolute not.
So Sam is arguably an amazing character, but donāt get it confused. Sam would have never volunteered to take the ring to Mordor, didnāt actually handle the ringās direct influence well, and also would have gotten rid of Gollum.
Because psych!!! This next part is actually about how Gollum, Frodo, and Sam are three sides to a triangle you canāt remove any part of lest it falls apart completely! Take that, M Night Shyamalan, thereās a new mediocre and fully telegraphed twist in town!!!
Frodo has the initial willingness to take the ring to be destroyed and endures the ring better than literally anyone else. Basically everyone else either gives unhinged talks about what theyād do with the power before they ever touch it or they touch it for 10 seconds and go full Rick Astley. Frodo carries it for days and even wears it a few times before he sees Galadriel and is still capable of trying to give it away. That in itself is extraordinary and cannot be understated. Like thatās the willpower of a god. Put some respect on that.
Frodo, because of his connection to the ring and awareness of its impact, desperately wants to believe Gollum can be saved. After all, that means that he can be saved, and so he does everything in his power to keep Gollum around and get him better. This means they have a guide and when it comes down to it, the reason the ring is destroyed at all. Because Gollum is the one to ultimately, if by accident, destroy the ring. You need Frodo to carry the ring and get Gollum there, you need Sam to get Frodo there, and you need Gollum to destroy it.
And another plot twist thatās not a twist at all at all, but while thereās no part of the fellowship that you can remove and still win, the fellowship itself cannot succeed without 1246885356 other moving parts. Elrond, Arwen, Galadriel, ThĆ©oden, Ćomer, Ćowyn, Faramir, Treebeard, Grima fucking Wormtongue, and dozens of others, some who donāt even get directly named in the trilogy, are all important. Theyāre all necessary. And there are even more moving parts in the books. Pour one out for my very good friend, Forest God Tom Bombadil. Heās not dead, I just think him and his trees would like a drink.
The point of the whole goddamn thing is that no one can do this mission alone. None of them. Yeah, not even Sam or Aragorn. Itās a fellowship and itās about that connection and that community. There are themes.

For the character ask game, I'm not sure how many numbers you're willing to do for a single ask, so you can just do as much as you want from this. For Prowl - 2, 3, 7, 8, 12, 15, 16, 23, 25
I don't mind a bunch of numbers! Gives me an excuse to ramble, lol. And to rant, because Prowl deserves better.
2: Favorite canon thing about this character?
His willingness to look Optimus in the face and tell him he's being stupid, and to do his own thing to mitigate the stupidity if he has to. Mostly applicable to IDW, but Optimus needs a foil so badly in G1 that I've pretty much transplanted it into G1 Prowl when I write him. Not in its entirety, because G1 Prowl isn't IDW Prowl, but I like that he has his own opinions on tactics and morality and doesn't just go with the Autobot collective. His job is not to be a yes-mech; it's to keep people alive and win battles. If his commander is making stupid decisions, what benefit is there in standing back and letting it happen?
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
Making the police car an actual cop was the most boring decision anyone could have made. In stories where the Cybertronians choose their alts, especially, there are so many more interesting things you could say about his character by giving him a pre-war job that's completely unrelated to his Earth alt. For example, I like to think he chose it for tactical reasons: it's a common black and white vehicle, thus perfect as a disguise, and the sirens let him "legally" break Earth traffic laws in an emergency. It's far more interesting if his alt is a result of strategy and reasoning instead of, "I guess I'll take the one that matches my old job description."
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
I like that people took the little tidbit about Prowl having trouble with the unexpected that has exclusively appeared in two bios (that I'm aware of) and made it reasonably common. Would be really nice if they treated it seriously instead of making it comic relief, but maybe it does get treated more seriously these days. I don't read a lot of Prowl fic.
Let's talk about why.
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
The image compilations of Prowl getting punched. The prick jokes that litter every TF Wiki page for every G1-based Prowl. The fanfics where Prowl is an uncompromising jerk or straight-up hate sink because the author needed a mean Autobot. The conversations and hypotheticals that make Prowl the source of any amoral action the Autobots take. The people who distill him down into Essence of Asshole and strip out every positive or sympathetic quality he has.
"Prowl gets villainized for being sensible" is one of my most hated fanfic tropes. Grab just about any fic where a Decepticon defects or earns the Autobots' sympathy in some way, and Prowl will be the only one who's unhappy with the situation. Which is perfectly reasonable because that is an enemy and he has no reason to trust them, let alone like them. But because we're supposed to sympathize with the Decepticon, that makes Prowl the villain. The other Autobots aren't naive and unreasonably forgiving, Prowl is just a bad person.
And it's not just IDW fics. G1 Prowl didn't get a whole lot of screen time, and thus no chance to develop his own personality, so he gets slapped with the same portrayal. Never mind the fact that when he does show up, he's one of the nicest characters - sure, he gets in on trash talking the Decepticons (though far less than some of the Autobots), but he's always helping out around base, shows concern for others, and pretty much stays out of interpersonal conflict. And yet, in stories based on a cartoon that has Powerglide, Gears, Cliffjumper, and Optimus Prime himself, I am expected to believe Prowl is the Autobots' resident jerk. Not gonna happen.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
As I mentioned earlier, it's kind of quasi-canon that Prowl has trouble dealing with the unexpected. It's never appeared in any actual media, but it does come from official sources, so I wouldn't call it a headcanon. But I do headcanon that he has some pretty severe anxiety in dealing with people because of it. Things like math and physics are reliable; if something doesn't do what you expect it to, it's because you lacked information, and you can remedy that. You can update your calculations based on the results you actually got, or try to find out what you were missing the first time. Given enough data, you can predict just about anything as long as the results are consistent.
People are not consistent. You can make some sweeping generalizations about them based on categories - social groups, behaviors, readily obvious personality traits - but you can never say with certainty that someone will react in a specific way to something. Once you've known them for a while, you start to understand them and can anticipate them with a reasonable degree of accuracy, but that's assuming their behavior is genuine and consistent. If they're messing with you or pretending to be something they aren't, your data is inaccurate, and you can't correct it unless you know it's inaccurate.
People are the only things in the natural world that can deliberately give you false data about what to expect from them. So yes, I think Prowl has social anxiety. And probably some form of people-centric agoraphobia or anthropophobia.
(I also headcanon him as biromantic asexual. It has nothing to do with the above, and actually predates the anxiety headcanon).
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
If I had to pick just one pairing, I guess I would say Jazz/Prowl. Which is ironic, because for a long time, it was one of my least favorite Prowl pairings. Not because it was particularly objectionable; it was just everywhere, and I couldn't see it working. I think of Prowl as the kind of person who needs a steady, reliable partner who will let him have his routines and respect his desire to plan things before doing them, and Jazz's thing is more spontaneity and flexibility. He seemed like one of the worst partners for Prowl, especially with how I developed Prowl's disorders over the years.
In the end, though, that spontaneity is what brought them full circle to a pairing I can support. Because I do think Jazz would be willing to compromise and accommodate for Prowl's needs, and that Prowl could eventually trust that he's not going to suddenly change how he acts around him. It's a rather tenuous case of opposites attract, and requires patience from both parties, but I can see it working now.
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
First, an honorable mention goes to my immediate impulse, which was Constructicons/Prowl. I get why people want IDW Prowl to have someone on his side, and I don't think the Constructicons meant any harm. But Prowl was forced into the team through a series of traumatic events, the Constructicons like him for things he hates about himself, and being a part of Devastator seems to have contributed to his psychological decline. It wasn't a good or healthy situation for him, and I feel like the Constructicons having romantic feelings for him actually makes it more uncomfortable for me.
That being said, I'm going to have to go with Optimus/Prowl as my absolute least favorite ship. Optimus is very strongly motivated by morality and will generally take what he perceives to be the most moral action in a given situation. Pair that with someone like Prowl, who is willing to cross lines when he feels he has to, and you already have a relationship on rough ground. The only way things can work between them is either for Optimus to accept Prowl's "moral failings", or for Prowl to change a fundamental part of himself. There is literally no option that doesn't require one of them to compromise their principles or change who they are. And since Optimus isn't the kind of person who will do that, the only hope for a relationship is to "fix" Prowl. And that gets into abusive territory, because Optimus has power over Prowl in both the physical sense and in their professional relationship. He also has social power, because because Prowl is unpopular and Optimus is exactly the kind of person you wouldn't expect to be capable of abuse.
And yes. For the sake of argument, it could be toxic from Prowl's side too. He could try to hurt Optimus by throwing his mistakes in his face, or by blaming him for everything that goes wrong. But Optimus has a great deal of confidence in himself and the support of pretty much everyone, while Prowl is isolated and already isn't proud of things he's done. He is far more vulnerable to abuse than Optimus is, socially and psychologically, and he just doesn't deserve that.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
Mmm. I guess I would have to say this one, since it inspired an entire story that I'm still working on. There's actually another one that I like better (which also spawned an in-progress story), but I'd have to do more digging to find the link for that one. Might do it later.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
When I started watching G1, the Autobots were just a conglomerate of near-identical personalities to me. Prowl was just one of the generic background bots who got a few minutes of screentime in one episode and was otherwise relegated to a support role. I was mildly interested by some of the fanfic portrayals I saw, but I definitely preferred the Decepticons, so I didn't read much where he was a main character unless there were Decepticon MCs too. And most of those fics were written by a couple authors whose endings were consistently disappointing, so after I stopped reading their stuff, Prowl just dropped off my radar.
Nowadays, Prowl is my favorite Autobot (well, second favorite after Skyfire). Thanks to IDW, I kind of see him as the Autobot version of Starscream (narratively if not in personality), but he's also a fascinating character in his own right. I love that he doesn't conform to the Autobots as a whole, he's fun to write and analyze, and he was the one good thing I got out of the IDW comics. 10/10 character, deserves better.

If my oc's were misinterpreted by fanon, pt 3:
Alsina
These next two are ladies (or present as ladies, in Alsi's case, since sexes are different for the vasyrus), so of course they would end up getting shoved aside for the boys. Or viewed just for sex.
I feel like she would get minimized to both the big booby goth and the wine aunt stereotypes.
People would just treat her as an accessory to Sivel. Because she did plan to overthrow him when she first came back, people would also probably speculate that she's using him/biding her time before she stabs him in the back.
I think people would take her habit of going as far as she has to in order to accomplish her goals, and her being unashamed to speak or act against things that she feels are wrong would get her pegged as being overly emotional. Or a bitch that takes things too seriously.
Nirbhi
Again, she's a lady so she'd automatically be pushed aside for the boys, for the most part. Or just viewed for sex. I could see that being especially bad with Nir.
Portrayed mostly as a ditzy airhead that lets her attendants take care of everything for her. Probably also a good bit of spoiled and selfish princess in there too, because of course.
I can see a lot of people either forgetting that she was a goddess for most of her life, or making her out to be some horrible woman that abandoned her followers without warning. All because she wanted to shirk her responsibilities and go have fun, instead!
She's a healer-type, so obviously that means she can't defend herself and is very weak. Needs protection, either in the "oh noes uwu, she needs a big, strong man to keep her safe" way, or the "ugh, she's so annoying, she can't do anything" way. I hate both, and so would she.
Pythius
People would absolutely only see him for the act he puts on with everyone. Arrogant, flirtatious and indulgent, vain and hotheaded. No depth here, no sirree! Might kind of sum up to a hot, but almost comic relief-y character in some ways.
He was never married, noooo, he's a playboy, he probably just knocked her up, he was never actually in love with her! And he probably neglected his sons, too! Actually no, I'm sorry. I mean he probably neglected Satan's sons--
People would also probably try to paint him as a drunken lecher, too. But in a "sexy way", for the most part.
Lazy, leaves all of his work to his siblings. But he still argues with all of them constantly, because there's gotta be one sibling in the bunch that causes a bunch of fights and drama!
I say all of this, but despite it all, I still feel like people would still somehow love him, and make all kinds of excuses for him.
Shilo
Always dozing off somewhere random, lazy, pretty emotionless and mysterious. People would treat his eels as snakes. This makes them sad :c
Cares a lot about nature and the state of the realms, so I can see a lot of people making him out to be really primitive and dumb. Or making him out to be the type that will jump down a person's throat for even considering the use of a plastic straw. Either way, I can also see it being treated as some haha funny joke.
Able to do mind/body control = he's instantly irredeemably evil.
Again with the "he's misunderstood, nothing he did as the Tyrant of Ennirem was wrong!" vs "he's evil and did that because he's evil and bad, and he didn't change or learn anything at all from what happened back then" battles.
Sivel
I can see a lot of blatant casual racism toward Sivel, unfortunately. Toward all of the Vasyrus, if I'm being honest. Because in a lot of places, they're painted as "the bad guys" in the Brinnelan war, with no acknowledgement to what led up to and caused any of that in the first place. And since Sivel is the king, he'd probably face the brunt of it.
He'd be viewed as cold and ruthless, power-hungry, unreasonable...all kinds of things, I'm sure. No wonder his wife left him!
Speaking of his wife, he probably forced her to marry him. Among other things.
On the more lighthearted side, I could see people dialing his nerdiness up to 11. Also his shut-in tendencies that pop up when he's really into something he's working on, or studying.
Serious all the time. Cannot take a joke. Doesn't tease, and is never playful. Sarcasm goes way over his head. I can see this being construed in both a sillier, kind of oblivious sort of light, and in a more negative sort of light, depending on what part of the fandom you ask.
Another "If you like this character, you condone everything bad that he's ever done, and you're just as problematic as him" victim.
#[Alsina -extras-]#[Nirbhi -extras-]#[Shilo -extras-]#[Pythius -extras-]#[Sivel -extras-]#Sivvie's made me sad-- the fandom would not be kind to him /at all/#Actually this whole page makes me sad#I love all of them with my whole heart#There's another one after this that'll be shorter because it's some quick extras that people asked for after I'd already finished this one!#But that'll be posted tomorrow!

I wonder, did characters such as Gus and Willow even ever have a chance at being interesting? I feel not. They're bland and inconsistently written, especially Willow. Every time the show tries to give Willow the spot light they have to pull something new outta nowhere cuz otherwise she really doesn't have anything going on. The biggest example of this is the whole "good ol reliable Willow" thing from FTF.
So technically all characters have the chance to be interesting. Some can even be interesting with only a single appearance, like the twins or Viney. It's actually pretty normal for one off characters to leave an impression because they get introduced with a lot of personality, are the driving force of an episode because they do a lot and then they leave so they can't contradict each other. Heck, the twins' appearances after Adventure in the Elements never have quite the same amount of charm because after that, their teasing/prankster attitudes just kind of entirely vanish which is a problem for one off characters. They aren't built for long term success because they're not meant to be around for very long.
But Willow and Gus weren't one offs and they weren't introduced like they were... But they're treated like they are. Gus is actually treated less like a one off than Willow but they both suffer from requiring retcons to be relevant. Gus' first episode doesn't do this but then illusion magic is retconned into being pathetic and for Labyrinth Runners, they go against one of his few character traits, his confidence, to give him general anxiety but without any signs that he needs to calm himself or has issues under pressure before now.
And then there's Willow who... I mean, do I even have to state it? Literally all of 'her' episodes are actually about someone else. Either it's about Amity or it's about Hunter until FTF happens and she's finally put in the spotlight and everyone just has to go, "Wait, who is she again?" And so they reference old, long forgotten notes and tack on something that frankly doesn't actually fit what she's done in the show so far because she's spent too little time with others and too much of it actually being one of the most aggressive characters in the group on most matters.
A lot of this stems from the fact that they both A: just lack much of a real personality when they're introduced. Amity is the one who steals the show while Willow is introduced as a shy girl and Gus is introduced as comic relief. The latter is a state of being for most characters that struggles to have a character beyond his jokes which is why Gus and King both feel out of character during their episodes because they often have to abandon how they normally act so they can actually do stuff while B: the writers very clearly hated what they had to work with. I'm pretty sure someone on the writing team DESPISES the shy girl archtype and so Willow wasn't allowed to be that but they didn't have a replacement for that characterization so she just... is there. Eventually, everyone will become like Willow where whether or not they do or say something is entirely plot dependent, like Amity in S3, because there's no actual personality, character or personal drive within them. It's a couple quirks, like Hunter liking wolves or sci-fi, that technically let you know this is a different character but they don't behave by their own personal traits. It's just to fulfil the concept on display, including for Gus when he forgets he's Willow's best friend so Hunter can have a Huntlow moment by seeing through an illusion.
And you can have funny characters or capable characters who are real characters. Sokka is the funny man of the group but we still understand that his own pride and his own thoughts on what a warrior is are core to his character. A lot of his comedy derives from misplaced confidence, false ideas of granduer and trying to be MAN! which lands him flat on his face but is still rooted in a complex and intriguing character. Meanwhile, a capable character can have reasons to be as solid and mature as they are and how they handle that maturity and the strain it puts on them can all be interesting angles to take but you have to be willing to discuss why they're so mature. As a kid, I was always called mature for my age and that's because I overthought everything and turned my nose at normal kid things but it also left me feeling REALLY isolated and lonely which made me double down on the fact that I must be special until college smashed into the ground.
But you have to see them as a character and TOH never feels like it does. They were a vehicle to get Luz into the school and then to help her get close to Amity. Once that's done, they're there for Hunter and nothing else. The OG friends will never properly interact again in the ENTIRE series with Luz. Buuuuut abandoning principal supporting cast who helped cause like... a third of your S1 episodes because King and Eda won't do fuck all with Luz is kind of not usually something a good show does so the show keeps making shallow excuses for them to show up but with increasingly diminishing returns, especially as you wonder what the point is. After all, a better dynamic between Luz and Hunter might have been able to tackle Hunter's morality during his change to becoming good but instead the focus is put on Huntlow and shipping as he establishes relationships, including friendship with Gus, with two characters who haven't mattered since S1 and he's still only spent two episodes of the season with Luz, who theoretically was his main catalyst for change since she's the one who starts it and is also the one who ends it in Hollow Mind.
But this adventure comedy, not a romance, really did choose romance over anything else it could spend its time on, didn't it? So with those misplaced priorities, why should we be surprised that the characters only there for ships, or facilitating ships getting together, should end up so shallow?

This is no way meant to be a hate ask and look i want to like the idea of canon klance and i want to like canon Keith but lbr if the writers had made klance or any keith ship canon they would have done it in worst way possible with the ship being only meant to benefit Keith while simultaneously being detrimental to the love interest. Cause fact is that Keith was writers pet, the top priority, the self insert, they destroyed all the characterization and agency and roles of other characters for the plot and story and then destroyed said plot and story to make Keith super cool hero character.
I keep seeing posts like how canon wouldnt suck if (insert Keith ship) had been canon and i am like, canon sucked because they priortized a lbr white coded able bodied character over canonical characters of colour who were reduced to torture porn, hate sinks, and comic relief. Canon sucked because the characters who were established as important parts of the story were reduced to side characters and plot devices so that Keith could shine brighter. And a canon Keith ship would not have helped any character other than Keith, and if anything would have reduced the other character as an eye candy comforter.
Again this is not meant to be a hate ask. It is just been frustrating to be in this fandom especially as a darker skinned woc to watch this show and fandom still treat characters of colour as woke points while using them to prop up Keith
I have debated over responding to this message, mainly because there are some things in here that could potentially cause drama on my page if I even respond to them in any way.
However, there are some points in here worth addressing, so...
First and foremost, I am going to say that I can see your intention is not to make this a hate ask. However, it does come across that way to some degree. The main reason being that you are making valid points about the other characters, but you are doing it by pushing Keith's character down - and that is the stuff I don't really like to see, here.
I'm not trying to invalidate your view on things, because I realize your point was literally this, just the other way around. I'm just saying for the sake of my own page, I've had a lot of asks in a similar vein and it's not really something I'm interested in discussing in asks.
Of course everyone can like and dislike whichever characters they choose, but I do like to keep things as fair and equal as possible across the board. So, I am always open to discussions and opinions on why a character or another deserved more and better, but only if they do not come at the expense of another character.
And with this, specifically - I just don't see this version of Keith you are referring to, so there's not even much I can add to that part of your ask.
To the other parts, however, this very much illustrates the need to having diversity in the creation process of shows and movies.
Unfortunately, a lot of studios and execs and whoever greenlights these things still rely on the "token" aspect when it comes to diversity.
As your ask proves, it doesn't do any good just to simply have characters of color, for example, if they are reduced to stereotypes or insignificant parts.
This is where the actual diversity should come in - because it needs to happen behind the scenes for there to be a change that will actually mean something.
In my opinion, experience is so much more important than any title or rank or connection. It is important to actually include and receive input from creators who understand a situation on its basest level.
I consider myself to be a very empathetic person who tries my best to understand human nature and emotions. But I, as a white person, will never have the same experience as you, a person of color. It's literally and physically impossible.
But that's the whole point.
Because if a book were to be written about the actual experiences of growing up as a poc, there are insights and stories you, anon, could offer than I could only take a wild guess at. And vice versa.
I'm not saying that creators should only create based on their own personal life and experiences. But it is important for larger projects such as shows that want to include a diverse cast to actually employ people who understand what it is like.
Because it's not enough to just throw a darker skinned character in a show and say "Hey look at us we did it. Diversity! Woohoo!"
And it is just bad storytelling all around if any character in any given situation is only there for the purpose of the "main character" (or any other character).
Because what really makes a story interesting is the diversity that can come from the different experiences and opinions of the various characters - how they can clash and converge and change and grow.
The final thing I will add is that in my mind, Keith is Asian and Galran, so...mixed. I understand a lot of trouble could have been avoided if the showrunners had just confirmed this was the case while the show was airing, but, well...we can't change the past.
It was, in the most technical sense, confirmed here, but I do understand that most people will view that as too little too late, and that's understandable.

for the character thingy:
Tara
Emily
JJ
Regina/Evil Queen
No pressure to do all of them though if you don't want to āļø
For Tara:
Why I like them: She's everything to me!!!! She's kind, strong, empathetic, emotionally intelligent, totally badass, and unbelievably hot. She's my wife and I love her. She's perfect. 10/10 no notes.
Why I donāt: I do not have an answer for this. I literally cannot think of a single reason not to like her!
Favorite episode (scene if movie): Ugh, it's impossible to pick just one! Either Mirror Image or False Flag.
Favorite season/movie: 13. It's a great season for her, and a great season for Temily.
Favorite line: When she refers to herself as "the woman behind the woman (Emily)." I take this as proof that Temily is canon.
Favorite outfit: GREEN DRESS š„µ
OTP: Temily
Brotp: Talvez (Luke and Tara)
Head Canon: She's a dog person, but has never actually owned a dog.
Unpopular opinion: This fandom's constant sidelining of Tara is deeply rooted in racism and misogyny. The only reason she's not as popular as other characters is because she's a Black woman.
A wish: I wish the fandom would stop treating her like a minor character!
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Her leaving the show
5 words to best describe them: The love of my life!
My nickname for them: Wifeyš
For Emily:
Why I like them: Lesbian with mommy issues who just wants to be accepted and loved. She's just like me fr! Also her growth as a character from season 2 to season 16 is absolutely beautiful to watch.
Why I donāt: I don't like fanon Emily. She's nothing like canon Emily.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): Demonology!!!!!!!
Favorite season/movie: Hmmm I might have to go with 16 because I love gray haired Section Chief Prentiss! I hate so, so much of Evolution, but for Emily purposes, it's an absolute masterpiece.
Favorite line: I have many, but "I've got a Glock leveled at your crotch" certainly stands out!
Favorite outfit: Cargo pants. Iconic lesbian wear.
OTP: Temily!!!!!!!
Brotp: Demily
Head Canon: Her parents divorced when she was in college, and even though she's not close with either of her parents, she has more of a relationship with her mother than with her father.
Unpopular opinion: Almost nobody in this fandom understands her or interprets her correctly. She is NOT a bumbling incompetent. She is NOT chaos personified. She is NOT comic relief. She would also never talk like a Gen Z TikToker. She's a middle-aged federal employee who excels at her job and has close, caring, mature relationships with the people she works with.
A wish: I wish people would stop butchering her character. This includes wishing they would stop shipping her with men.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Hotchniss. Really any het Emily ship, but especially that one. It's an abomination.
5 words to best describe them: A lesbian for the lesbians!
My nickname for them: Other wifeyš
For JJ:
Why I like them: She's a deep, complex character with so much room for fandom exploration. Also pretty lady make lesbian brain go brrrr šµāš«šµāš«šµāš«
Why I donāt: I don't really like the direction her character took in later seasons, when she came back as a profiler. I love media liaison JJ, and I love Evolution JJ, but in seasons 7-15, she just doesn't do it for me like other CM women do.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): Hmmm probably North Mammon?
Favorite season/movie: 5 was a good look for her! I liked the bangs.
Favorite line: "It's not people, it's men."
Favorite outfit: Her Evolution crop top and leggings combo š„µ
OTP: I honestly don't know that I have one? I love Jemily and Jara, but I think Temily is endgame.
Brotp: JJ and Morgan!
Head Canon: If Henry had been a girl, JJ would have named her Rose, after Rosaline.
Unpopular opinion: Reid stans are way too hard on JJ, to the point of being misogynistic about their dislike of her character.
A wish: I wish the Jeid confession had never happened!
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Will becoming a main character on CM.
5 words to best describe them: too complex for this fandomšš
My nickname for them: I don't really have one
It's been sooooo long since I was in my SwanQueen era, so I don't think I can answer all of these for Regina, but I'll answer some!
Why I like them: Ummm...she's a morally gray milf? Literally what more do you need?
Favorite outfit: Her in suits š„µš„µš„µ
OTP: SwanQueen!!!!

wwait please do tell ur issues with omori if u feel like it. as a somewhat omori enjoyer (<omocat sucks) i wanna see others' opinions as well
ok on my puter here u go. im not gonna write out like. an essay im just gonna list things out in bullet points because thats easier for me so sorry if this is hard to read/understand. quick side note i've played this game around 3 times because i love showing it to people so they can get mad about it with me. i feel like this is important because ive like. actually played the game and not pulling all of this out of a cut down letsplay (also just so no one gets mad at me i pirated it) but also my memory is awful. i am planning to play it again and actively take notes so i can write something more coherent. also putting it under a read more because i didnt realize how much i had to say about this
the story sucks tbh. like its an interesting concept that could have been done in an extremely impactful way but i felt nothing. like i didnt care about mari and i didnt care about sunny because he had like. no personality outside of "silent main character everyone likes". like if you dont care about mari the whole story falls apart. it relies very heavily on you caring about the two of them which is FINE but they do a really bad job of making me actually give a shit.
hero got like fucking nothing in the story and that bothers me like. outside of sunny we should have seen how mari's death impacted him the most because. you know. THEY WERE DATING? but we never get to spend time with hero. like all he is is "the nice one" i wish we got to see. anything with him but i swear they just weren't allowed to have him express emotions that werent extremely mild or something. actually now that i think about it it feels like hero was an after thought in like. everything. his dream word ability is barely used and when it is it feels like anyone could have done it. have it literally just be that he can flip switches is stupid. you could remove hero from the game and it would impact nothing.
AUBREYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY the church confrontation scene was like. GENUINELY GOOD? and then after that they just forget to do anything with her. like it pisses me off how that scene was actually good and the only part that genuinely got me to feel anything and then she just gets nothing. like her "bully" scenes are pretty good and i genuinely sympathized with her but it kind of felt like. you werent supposed to? idk if that makes sense because you totally WERE supposed to feel bad for aubrey but having the kel high fives directly after multiple scene where you make her cry felt so. fucking weird. maybe that was the point idk. aubrey's my favorite character i wish omocat knew how to write
SPEAKING OF KEL. I REALLY REALLY DONT LIKE HOW THE GAME TREATS HIM. he's supposed to be the comic relief but like. EVERY joke is either "kel is gross/stupid" or "aubrey is mean to him for no fucking reason" and it gets old really fast because he's just a kid??? like him and aubrey are just mean to each other thats their whole thing which is FINE i GUESS but its not funny?? its just incredibly mean spirited and not fair to him as a character. why couldnt he have just been silly without the game seemingly hating him for trying to have fun. like most of his moveset is based around being annoying its. its weird man idk. also the fact this is a fucking item in the game
when i got this for the first time i put my head in my fucking hands man this sucks.
Basil. basil could have been an EXTREMELY interesting character but hes just so. whiny. it gets old really fast. the final fight with him was pretty good i guess. i dont have much to say about him sadly because i just like. dont remember. nothing with him stuck with me. OH WAIT the black space bit where you repeatedly kill him in extremely gruesome ways was. kind of fucking weird. because hes 10. it was unnecessary like if you REALLY wanted the fact that sunny is trying so hard to repress anything that reminds him of what he did to be represented through basil dying you could have just done it a couple times idk. weird scene.
ok moving on from characters the art is. a lot. its very hard to tell the dream world party members apart because omocat just has really bad same fact syndrome, it doesnt help that they all have the same color palettes. speaking of color palettes why do the overworld sprites white wash kel and hero. its less noticeable with hero but like. come on man its not hard to color pick your own art
still on the art the fact everything moves is fun in concept but REALLY distracting in execution. theres been multiple fights (specifically sweetheart, the king crawler and humphrey) where i've gotten awful headaches and had to take a break because i felt sick from all the movement lol. also the animation for releasing energy does NOT help who thought making the screen shake that much was a good idea dear god. like seriously this game needs to have some kind of warning
using sweetheart as an excuse to talk about how the dream world its such a fucking slog. i UNDERSTAND the point is that sunny is doing everything in his power to not reach the truth so he creates roadblocks but oh my goddddddd its so annoying to constantly have the plot take a backseat so we can go to a wedding or go to a casino or GO IN THAT STUPID FUCKING WHALE. the fact that there is a fucking mod that removes the humphrey segment should say enough. like that part in particular was soooooo fucking bad. its so boring. the humphrey fight has THREE FUCKING PHASES. I DONT KNOW WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA BUT THEY SHOULD BE KILLED. ITS AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE
the emotion system is an interesting idea but i wish they did more with it. once you figure out that everyone has one theyre best with you stop playing with them. it stopped being fun to battle because its just make aubrey angry -> make sunny sad -> make kel happy -> have hero do fucking nothing -> hit them. idk maybe they could have had like. special emotions for boss fights?? im not sure how that'd work but i wish they added little twists every now and then to keep all the battles from feeling the same.
the real world isnt much better honestly. all the aubrey shit made me angry and the battles are so weirdly unfair its just not fun. like it doesnt penalize you for losing real world battles but its like. idk they suck. also the fact it doesnt tell you food doesnt heal you in the real world fucked me up when i first played because i was so used to the dream world i spent all my money on soda and then spent the entirety of the real world on like 1 hp i cant add spoilers on tumblr so animal harm/death and suicide warning for this next part. if you dont want to read that theres nothing else after it so youre good to just stop reading now
i dont like the black space. like i briefly went over it in the basil segment but it left such a bad taste in my mouth. especially the part where you are seemingly "forced" to cut your fucking cat open as it begs you to free it and the only way to not hurt it is to kill yourself?? ok.
speaking of which the fact the only way to leave the dream world and wake up is to kill yourself complete with a little sound effect is weird to me. idk man omori is 10 im not exactly keen on watching a child kill himself several times.
honestly the games handling of suicide is gross to me. obviously i dont think you should never talk about suicide i think its a very important topic but they way its handled in omori is almost. glorified? idk if that the right word. omori/sunny can kill himself so many times in this game and i just found that a little weird. also basil can kill himself and you can see his body just. sitting there. ok im running out of writing steam if i think of anything else i'll make another post or you have any follow up questions let me know im gonna go watch scott the woz

Some additional thoughts:
I wish we were able to get tender moments between Kim and Ron in S4
In fact we already have a few of them, only for them to get cut short usually in comedic effect by another character or the show tries to undermine the moment by making a quick jab usually at the expense of Ronās character.
I feel that paradoxically in S4 Ron had the most amount of character development and plenty of heartwarming moments, but the show still makes him the butt of the joke on those scenes, so despite having the most development his character is portrayed very dumb during some scenes.
Like in the scene in the episode Clothed minded where Ron tells Kim that her clothes is not what makes her Kim possible, she is the one who is amazing, Kim looking so happy and reassured about what he said and then the scene tries to make it āfunnyā by having Ron panic and go back on what he said, completely ruining and undermining the scene.
Iām not saying Ron isnāt allowed to be silly, is just that Ron being the comic relief and the butt of the joke no longer seems fitting for his character at that point, because he has developed well beyond that character archetype.
That doesnāt happen when Ron tells Kim āshe is beautifulā and this is one of the most memorable KimRon scenes in the series.
I understand why this was done, they were afraid of putting too much romance, they didnāt want to scare the kids away, they had to make it funny and appealing to the little Kids somehow.
But I wish the show allowed for more personal, emotional and tender moments between the two. Sometimes I feel like S3 handled this aspect better than S4.
Iām sorry about all of the ask, I know you are not even a KimRon shipper, but you are one of the few people who has openly talked about the flaws of the show and about the way Kim was handled and this is one of the only ways I think I can safely address all of this issues and feeling Iāve had about the show for a long time.
Hope I didnāt overwhelmed you with all of the sudden influx of asks. Thanks for listening.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with any of my points?
Yeah, Ron outgrew the "goofy sidekick" archetype way before season 4. Maybe partway through season 2.
I have a post on how Ron deserved to be treated better by the narrative where I list the times Ron's done something truly amazing and it actually begins pretty early in the series. It's just so rarely acknowledged.
But, despite showing pretty early on what he's capable of, he was still the butt of many jokes, and the narrative never acknowledged that he grew out of that. It never really allowed him to grow out of it.
Simultaneously, the narrative never acknowledged that Kim might be flawed so she was never allowed to grow.
I understand how you feel; there are certain places on the internet where, if you try to criticize Kim Possible - the show or the character - you get a bunch of hate.
I don't know if it's because the nostalgia is too strong or what, but it can make someone afraid to criticize the show. But trust me, we're not the only ones who have issues with it.
I still have people disagreeing with me here, but at least I'm not getting hated on. People here are much more open to discussion about the flaws of the show.
(Or maybe I just got lucky this time. Who knows?)
I agree with all of your points, actually. I may not ship KimRon, but that's because their relationship was handled poorly, even before they started dating.
After they started dating, there should've been more tender and emotional moments between them. It sucks that we didn't see that very often. Or that, when it did happen, it was interrupted by something "funny" happening, usually at Ron's expense.
It felt like they weren't in a serious relationship because the relationship wasn't allowed to be serious.
I don't mind all the asks. I actually appreciate them. You're totally allowed to send me your thoughts about Kim Possible. I like having discussions with people about it. And I will do my best to reply to all of them.

The (Somewhat Exaggerated) Humiliation of Kagura
I have a very cyclical relationship with Fairy Tail, where Iāll forget about the series for a year or two and then jump back in with a new perspective. One of the characters I always had a niche fondness for was Kagura, Erzaās opponent in the Grand Magic Games - she looks really cool, she wields an awesome sword, itās good stuff. While thereās plenty of speculation to be had as to where she couldāve been used more thoroughly, thatās not what weāre here to talk about. No, weāre here to talk about the conception that after the GMG, she was utterly discarded and treated like a joke for the rest of the series.
And I donāt like that, yāknow, Iād rather think that such a view comes from an oversimplification of events, and that by taking a closer look we can find a different perspective. Iāll admit, when it comes to humiliation Iām a massive hypocrite: itās all fun and games until a character Iām actually attached to is on the wrong end of it. With that in mind, Iāll try to be as fair and balanced as possible here, not exaggerating the humiliation but also not huffing copium and acting like everything was handled with perfect respect.
The first and most obvious point is the Dimaria fight, where the latter froze time and shredded Kaguraās robe, causing her to become embarrassed and retreat. This one is basically inarguable, she hated this and was still dwelling on it back at the camp. Not just being overwhelmed by Dimariaās power, but also the aspect of people gawking at her, it bothered the hell out of her. And it was portrayed as comic relief, so I can easily see why people got bad vibes from it; once a story stops treating a characterās suffering with any sort of respect, that can often spell doom for them. Or it can just be an inconsequential gag, it really depends.
Next up is the Neinhart fight, in which people will say she did nothing, and theyāre not exactly wrong there either. The main thing she did was cut down imaginary Simon in a very predictable āattacking the illusion warrior that looks like a loved oneā moment, a setup I have rarely ever found engaging. At least her involvement here was less about the fight and more about advancing her relationship with Jellal, in that sheās putting her grudge aside for the sake of Erza and the broader war. Some people will go so far as to say the Jellal CPR kiss was a degrading moment for her character, and that I will never understand, itās her being the bigger person for the sake of other things she cares about. So the Neinhart fight itself is a neutral for her.
The Larcade fight is where my opinions deviate more sharply from the rest of the, I guess, āKagura fanbaseā. Itās like everyone only remembers the scene where she got her sword blocked and forgot that she did other things before and after that. Iām going to be honest, I thought Kagura was pretty cool in this fight. Her pulling up to one of the strongest Spriggans while everyone else was collapsing, actually parrying his attacks, cutting down the holy-looking rock heās sitting on in a way that really makes it feel like sheās fighting a god (like some sort of Godwhacker, if you will), even escaping from his Pleasure spellā¦ maybe itās not on the same level as the GMG, but you can start to feel the badass Kagura coming back here.
Even after succumbing to Larcadeās raw durability and getting cut down, she manages to regain consciousness alongside Rogue for Stingās final attack, which is significant for a couple reasons. Her gravity magic - which was shown off in her first appearance and disappeared afterwards - actually comes back in a useful and cool-looking way. In terms of portrayal, sheās basically being depicted here on the same level as the Twin Dragons, the difference being that Sting has an elemental immunity to some of Larcadeās moves and therefore is doing most of fighting. And it means she contributed significantly to the defeat of a top 3 Spriggan, in fact, the ONLY top 3 Spriggan who was defeated legitimately (Irene and August both yeeted themselves). For a fight thatās only seen as being disrespectful towards her, that paints a surprisingly decent picture.
And finally, thereās the thing that inspired me to make this thread in the first place. In the last chapter of the main series, itās stated that Mermaid Heel have all become Sorcerer Weekly models, with Kagura basically wondering āwtf am I doing hereā. Taken at its utmost, this would imply that Mermaid Heel has converted into a modeling agency, meaning Kagura is no longer even a mage/swordswoman anymore and instead has to show off her body to others for a living, the very thing she felt degraded by earlier in the arc. The problem is that this interpretation is so over-the-top and frankly sadistic that itās the type of absurdist plot I would expect to see from a doujin, not Fairy Tail; the more reasonable interpretation is that they simply do work on the side for Sorcerer Weekly for whatever reason. And sure enough, 100 Year Quest all but confirms this to be the case, with Mermaid Heel still being labeled as a mage guild. Meaning this is a non-point, it just amounted to one panel.
So, was she used to her fullest potential? No. But was she reduced purely to fanservice and disrespected at every possible opportunity? Also no. Out of everything discussed here, I do wish she and Rogue played a more active role against Larcade, that couldāve been really great to see. All we can hope for now is that she gets to do something cool in 100 Year Questā¦ that, or the future of this character will be dictated entirely by the writings of KaguErza shippers. Which maybe isnāt such a bad thing.
