Time to talk about the shortest taylor swift song to date
no, seriously, how did she only give us 2:11 of this song.
WELL, actually, okay. Much like So High School, I think I Look in People's Windows is a song that perfectly captures the feeling it's going for, executes its idea, and then doesn't overstay its welcome. Unlike So High School, though, I Look in People's Windows could've stayed just a tad bit longer. Like, I would not be upset at another verse, maybe a little bit of vamping at the end.
That said, what we do have of the song is so perfectly haunting. Swift's catalogue is dominated by questions, by songs longing for futures that will never come to pass. She encapsulates the feeling of missing someone to the point that you try to will them into your life. It brings to mind I see your face in every crowd from Holy Ground, or I see your profile and your smile on unsuspecting waiters from Is It Over Now?
A production thing I love from I Look in People's Windows is the lo-fi, almost bit-crushed bird songs between the verses. It follows the lyrics a feather taken by the window blowing / I'm afflicted by the not knowing very well; the person she loves has drifted away from her with the same ease as a bird taking flight.
We think of bird calls as sunny days, sitting on park benches as people laugh together and feeling smiles creep up our face. Swift has chosen to invert the meaning - her narrator is walking through streets, and while the people around her are happy (attending Christmas parties, drinking nice wine) but she is not.
The narrator picks through the tiny details, signs she feels maybe she missed before she was left. I spied the catch in your breath / you had stopped and tilted your head. She doesn't know, she doesn't understand why she's outside, why she's alone.
Does it feel okay to not know me? the narrator asks the object of her obsession. The song is all about missed connections, about the if only's that she's addicted to. It ties back into Chloe et al, the wondering about how it could have turned out, how it could have been.
I attend Christmas parties from outside, which is so heart wrenching. Christmas as a time of family is often lost in the sauce of consumerism, but Swift's narrator isn't invited either way. Whether it is friends of friends playing Dirty Santa or families sharing happy news by the fire, Swift's narrator stands outside in the cold. She watches people she once considered family live their lives, without her.
In The Outside, Swift described a narrator who has been a lot of lonely places / I've never been on the outside.
In Holy Ground, the narrator says that sometimes I wonder how you think about it now / and I see your face in every crowd.
In Is It Over Now?, Swift describes a narrator, long after the date of death, questioning her former lover: was it over when she laid down on your couch?
In the 1, she mentioned rosé flowing with your chosen family / and it would've been sweet / if it could've been me.
In Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, she asks the listener, Will I always wonder?
And in I Look in People's Windows, Swift's narrator is left asking: What if your eyes looked up at met mine one more time?

more Dad Things that Bruce Wayne definitely does:
makes the kids hold the flashlight when he’s working on the Batmobile and yells at them when they don’t do it right
makes lots of weird gross dad noises (groaning, hacking, etc)
snores like a fucking freight train. like seriously, there should be a noise warning on his bedroom door
snack tax in the car!!! reaches his hand back and does the little grabby thing
“when was the last time you changed your oil”
gives the worst directions
“so you’ll pull out of here and go north about three miles—“ “what the hell are you saying to me”
gets to the airport five hours before the plane takes off (it’s a private plane, it’s not leaving without him)
this is more of a mom thing, but he gasps like he’s just been stabbed when someone wakes him up
*whispering* “B…B…Bruce” “HEUEUH. What.”
Texts “Call me now.” and when the kids do, assuming something horrible has happened, he’s like “what should we eat for dinner tonight.”
on the other hand, he also forgets to tell the kids very important information
“how’s it going, B?” “not much just recovering from my wrist surgery last week” “your WHAT?!”
(that just happened to me. thanks dad)

hear me out, danny speaking russian (dc x dp hc)
so i was just watching a video about space, right? allegedly, turns out if you (an american) wanna board the international space station you must speak russian fluently since the only way to get there is by a russian shuttle and pilot (nasa apparently ended their own shuttle program way back when??) (don’t quote me on this)
so picture danny learning russian at a relatively young age for the sole hope of going to space and such, and it coming out every once in a while when he’s mumbling or something like that (it’s basically second nature to him)
so danny ends up at gotham for whatever reason (demon twins, reveal gone wrong, idc, they’re all cool) and he wants to start anew, so he pretends to only speak russian?? ig?? it’d make for some funny/interesting BatFam interactions i suppose
i don’t know where i was going with this but i want to read prompts of danny speaking russian

Wes ruins everything
Wes had finally done it, he had finally realized why nobody ever belived him about Fenton and Phantom! It made so much sense now, he had been looking for an answer for years, thinking he was going crazy because everybody refused to see the Obvious!
He was Cursed!
He literally had an Ancestoral Curse on his Bloodline that made it so that all those born with the gift of Prophecy would be ignored! A Gift of Prophecy that he apparently had.
It was Cassandra's Curse, the one from Greek Myths. Apparently she was his Great×1000 Grandmother and passed down the Gift (and Curse) of Prophecy to him. And he knew how to break it!
All he needed to do was gather the right resources, chant the correct incantations, make sure not to accidentally summon a Demon in the process, and he could just foist the Curse onto some other poor schmuck. Sure it would suck for them, and he would loose his Gift of Prophecy, but Wes had been ignored for Years at this point, he needed validation!
So he did the Ritual, and he didn't mess it up, and he managed to get rid of the Curse.
Now all he had to do was convince everybody that he was right for the first time in his life! This was going to be great!
...
Cass didn't know what was going on.
A while ago, she had started getting these...gut feelings that she couldn't explain.
She would look over the details of a Case her Family was working on, and see a patern that the others were seemingly ignoring. Like when she realized that The Penguin was about to raid the Docks on the East Side, but the others were convinced it was going to be on the West.
But when she had tried to tell them, they had brushed her off. "We've already concluded that he will begin the Raid on the West side, no need to go to the East."
She had gone anyways, and low and behold she had been right. But nobody even acknowledged that she had been right at all, they had just wondered how they had missed the signs, not even questioning how she had known.
It wasn't limited to Cases either. Even small things, like telling her brother's where the TV remote was were brushed off, and hours later they would still be looking, never even having checked where she told them.
It seemed that no matter what, nobody cared about her point of view anymore. They kept brushing her off, telling her she was wrong, actively ignoring her ideas.
And it was getting worse. They were starting to ignore her more and more, forgetting she was in the room, not calling her down for Dinner, even forgetting to check in on her during Patrol.
She knew that there must be something going on, Magical or otherwise, but when she tried bringing it up with her Dad or JLD, they would also Brush her off.
Her Family was forgetting her. And they didn't even realize it.
...
Danny was not okay at the moment.
When he had gone to school a few weeks ago and noticed everybody staring at him, he didn't give it much thought. Maybe Dash or Paulina had spread another Rumor about him again, not too out of the ordinary.
When his name had been called over the Intercom, he hadn't thought much of that either. His grades were falling even more than usual, so he assumed his Guidance Counselor wanted to have another talk with him.
When he walked into the Principals Office to see both of his Parents and some GIW Agents, that's when he realized something big must have happened.
He didn't have much of a chance to react when the Shields went up, but he did react when the first Ecto-Blast scorched the wall behind him. His Parents began to scream at him as they fired their Blasters, something about replacing somebody? He didn't know, he was pretty preoccupied at the moment.
It took more effort than he cared to admit to escape the Room, but a stray shot to the hidden Shield Projector under the Principals Desk proved to be his saving grace. Unfortunately the moment he escaped the Office, he was met with a veritable Army of GIW Agents, all armed to the Teeth with Weapons he had never even seen before.
He managed to get away for a moment, hiding in the Bathroom as the Agents chasing him passed it by. That's when he met Wes.
He obviously hadn't been expecting him, but the moment he saw him Wes put on a smug look. "Oh hi Fenton, trying to get away from the other students?"
Danny had replied with confusion, "What the hell are you talking about?!"
"I finally managed to convince everybody about you, now everyone knows that you're Phantom! I'll bet you're hiding from all of the other Students hounding you for questions right?"
"...it was you?"
"Yeah, so? I finally get to be right!"
"...You absolute MORON-"
That was the last Danny got to say to Wes before an Ecto-Blast launched him through a Wall, seeing his face morph into a look of Shock just before the dust cloud covered it up.
Since that day, Danny had been on the Run. Nowhere was safe anymore now that the GIW knew both his Human and Ghost's faces, but he had to keep running. He crossed state Lines already, and was on his way to the next Ecto-Rich City he could sense, somewhere in New Jersey.
He cursed his Fenton Luck every day. Why had everybody believed Wes this time?! Nobody had ever belived him before, nobody even seemed to acknowledge his existence after a while! What had changed?
Danny just wanted to rest already.
...
Cass had taken to Patrolling alone recently. She had taken to doing a lot of things alone, actually.
After the first month, it seemed that nobody could remember that she was in the room with them, even if she was within their eyeline, she just faded into the background. By the 2 Month Mark they had stopped talking to her entirely, although occasionally she would get a Text or two from her dad. By the 3 month Mark she was completely invisible, and By the 5th she had been forced to get used to it.
She didn't know what was going on, was it a Meta Ability? Magic? Alien Tech? She had no idea.
She had begun to cook for herself after the first time Alfred forgot to set her Plate at the Table. The same with Washing her own Clothes, Cleaning her Room, and Paying her Phone Bills. At the very least the Automated Allowance Payments to her Account had kept up, or she wouldn't have been able to go to her favorite Cafe anymore.
It was bittersweet for her. She used to go to that Cafe every week with Alfred, but he didn't even come on his own anymore. Had he only come for her? Did she really mean that much to them? It hurt, she finally had a family that cared for her and suddenly she didn't exist to them.
She sat alone at a Table, ignored by everyone in the Cafe as usual, when a new face walked in. He looked about her age, a little roughed up, walking with a sort of cautious gaint, as if he was scared of something. His Body Language seemed to agree with her assessment, as his body practically screamed "Worry" in its movements.
Cass stopped watching at that point. Just another Gotham Teen, probably worried over something like getting not having enough money or getting mugged on the way home. It was a Common sight in Gotham.
She attention was pricked again for a moment when she heard a voice speak up. "Uh, can I sit here?"
She ignored it, he wasn't talking to her.
"Um, excuse me? Miss? Could I sit here?" He repeated.
She ignored him again, he wasn't talking to her. Nobody talked to her.
"Hello? Do you have Earbuds in?" He said, and he waved his hand in front of her face.
Her face. He waved his hand. In front of Her Face.
He was talking to her.
She looked up at him sharply, seeming to startle him for a moment before he asked, "So, is that a no?"
"You can see me?" She asked.
He looked a bit bewildered, but replied "Uh, yeah? Why would I not? Are you...a Ghost?". That last part sounded a bit suspicious.
"No. Not a Ghost. But nobody sees me. Ever. Nobody remembers me." She replied. She had never spoken this much to anybody outside of her Family, but in the past few weeks she had been starved for interaction.
He seemed slightly interested, and sat down at her table. He looked her in the eyes, and said "Do you...talk about it?"
She smiled. He could see her.

imgonnagetyouback
no header we die like men
So, a fun fact about me: I have a physical, burnt CD that I keep songs that play on the idea of "get them back." It is maybe my favorite, favorite double entendre to make.
First of all, I love the stylization of the title? Someone said something about it being a reference to a 1975 song? I actually don't care, I think the all lower case, no spaces presentation of imgonnagetyouback so perfectly encapsulates how she sings it. There's a distinct speed to it, a mischievous side smile to it as well.
Also, god, the vibe of the song is just a little sexy, just a little messy, it's everything I love. The narrator, seeking an ex-flame who ghosted her ( I'm an Aston Martin that you steered straight into a ditch / then ran and hid ) debates his fate.
There's something very... gloat-ish, in it. I can imagine the narrator, two shots deep, grabbing her lover by the jaw, to say, "I could leave you, like a dumb house party, or I might just love you 'till the end."
Tumblr media
(Get Him Back - Fiona Apple)
This song tells, I think, a very tight story. The narrator describes a lover who "Knew the price goin' in." who she sees across the bar, after their split. Over the course of her night, she has decided. Even if I'm handcuffed, I'm leaving here with you.
My favorite part, and the most revealing, is the bridge. It's always the bridge! ( I think Swift's songwriting prioritizes the bridge as a moment of revelation, a moment where the "why?" of the song is answered. ) The narrator, in no uncertain terms, sees her lover still wanting her, and sees him as the turn around, the new future. Bygones will be bygone eras, fading into grey.
The narrator thinks that, by getting back with this lover (or by getting back at them) she can "push the reset button, we're becoming something new."
Tumblr media
(I'm Gonna Get You Back - Florie)
The bridge's final line also reveals a little bit about how the Narrator sees herself.
Pick your poison babe, I'm poison either way.
The narrator tells her ghosted ex that both options will end badly for him. On one hand, she teases revenge throughout the whole song. Smash your bike / flip you off / curse you out. Or, as a much younger Swift might put it: I wrote a song about you.
On the other hand... There's a tell, there. That she thinks loving her ( pull you into the closet / take you back to my house / be your wife ) is just as poisonous. In a way, maybe the narrator is right. The song's placement directly before The Albatross could be the answer. The narrator sees that trouble will come if he gets back with her, too.
Tumblr media
(get him back! - Olivia Rodrigo)
Back on the idea of gloating, though. The song has a bit of Mastermind to it too:
You'll find that you were never not mine.
The narrator feels so totally in control that she will get to decide the fate of this romance. I could take the upper hand. I can tell when someone still wants me. Once you fix your face, I'm goin' in. For a song with such a tight, perfect beat, it works so, so well. I love when the instrumental supports the lyrics.

it's my personal headcanon that none of bruce's kids actually change their last names to 'wayne' legally, but they do use it in public for convenience. none of them really associate with it at all, but don't care enough about what gets put in the media.
they do get insane whiplash however if someone they know personally refers to them as such. certain members WILL throw up in their mouths a bit at hearing themselves referred to as "____ wayne" (jason i'm looking at you)

Dad Things that I am positive Bruce Wayne does:
watches random Facebook videos at top volume in the living room with no headphones
asks “Who?” after any of his kids mention a friend’s name. bonus points if that friend has been around for like ten years.
“I was talking to Wally and—“ “Who’s that.”
falls asleep watching tv but complains that he was “just resting his eyes” when someone changes the channel
“B, I’m hungry” “Hi, hungry” (classic)
asks “has your car always made that noise?” when riding in his child’s car. also frequently asks if they’ve gotten an oil change recently
calls kids by the wrong name
“Dami-Tim-Ace-JASON”
whines that he doesn’t want a cat in the house but is obsessed with Alfred the Cat and often found taking naps with her on his chest
can parallel park like a mf
tells the same stories over and over, each rendition slightly more exaggerated than the last

Are there any fic where obi-wan discovers palpatine is Darth sidious and he tells the council but they don’t believe him? Like maybe it was through a vision or something and they know obi-wan doesn’t really like the chancellor. Obi-wan is flabbergasted that his fellow councilors do not believe him. They don’t even let him really explain!
He eventually runs into Anakin and in a desperate attempt to have someone believe him he tells his former padawan. And Anakin, who always jumps to the chancellor’s defense, is quick to anger. Shouting at obi-wan for saying something so insidious about his friend.
Obi-wan is distraught. He knows he’s right. The force is insistent and yet no one hears it screaming. He’s despondent and when his commander asks him what’s wrong obi-wan bitterly says “you wouldn’t believe me.”
Cody, ever loyal and secretly in love with his Jedi general, says “try me.”
(And if in the end obi-wan has to abscond with his commander and a few choice troopers in order to form a team to handle the Sith Lord themselves, well, he was only following the force.)
