Every time my beloved and I are driving folks around we end up needing to explain the myth of Cassandra.

You see, Cassandra was a devotee of the god Apollo. Apollo wanted to smash real bad and blessed her with the gift of prophecy. But Cassandra did not return his feelings and Apollo was pissed. He couldn’t revoke a divine blessing but he added the condition that no one would ever believe her prophecies.

So that’s what we named our GPS. We disobey Cassandra at our peril. We may doubt or disbelieve her, but Cassandra always knows.

In Cassandra’s revenge, what do you think that the episode had references from other Disney films?

I don't know if you mean what the references are (I'll get there) or why they were referenced. I'll answer the latter first.

Not just Disney, but all production studios use referenced. Disney is well-known for referencing themselves, and Tangled the Series is no exception. (It's also not just in this episode.) They do it because it's a fun nod to pop culture, or their own studio's other works.

"Cassandra's Revenge" references a few different Disney movies. The most notable, of course, is Cassandra's entry to Eugene's birthday. Ricky Roxburgh has stated that he used Maleficent arriving at the infant Aurora's christening to inspire Cassandra's arrival and her speech. And frankly, I feel like this was villain!Cassandra's best episode. Like, she really rocked the evil vibe in this one, and I really appreciate that and wish we got to see more of her.

But that's not all!

It is not a matter of right or wrong here. It is a matter of hubris and nemesis cycle. Cassandra made a promise to a god she didn't keep the same as other heroes or kings etc of myths did not keep their promise to the gods or defied the gods and suffered dreadful consequences for it. Some examples being:

Minus defying Poseidon by not giving him the actual bull he requested because he thought it was a pity to sacrifice the animal and gave Poseidon another one instead. The consequences were severe for his family for his wife Pasiphae was cursed to fall in love with that said animal and from the unnatural union came out Minotaur (or Asterius as he was first known) that became a source of great power but also great shame to Crete.

Prometheus defied the order of Zeus not to give fire to people and when he defied him once he defied him twice by offending him with bad "offerings" so his punishment was severe; he were to hang from a mountain and have his liver eaten every day till his dept was paid and Heracles came to save him

Achises defied the warning of Aphrodite not to tell anyone that she was his lover and when he got drunk and bragged about it he was instantly shot by a lightning from the heavens according to one tradition.

Narcissus defying the gods with his narcissism or his love for his own reflection had him meet his doom in that way (Pausanias even mentions a less popular version that Narcissus was in love with his twin sister who had a similar face as him hence him bending to the river to...kiss her imagining her face on his own, when she died)

Pandora defied the will of Zeus not to open her box and that released all evil in the world hence failing her test.

Humanity defied the will of the gods, among others, hence Zeus sending the flood to restart the world with Deucalion being the one chosen to continue humanity (Similar to Noa lore in the bible)

And one example of a seemingly overly-done punishment out of an action that seems perfectly normal up to one point to our eyes:

Odysseus defied the gods by not only blinding the son of a god but also bragging about it in his fury and thinking the damage he did to him was irreversible and the price he had to pay was to lose every single one of his men in the cruelest ways possible, roam for 10 years and suffer the worst ordeals a human can suffer and when he finally went home he found more suffering and conflict etc.

Mortals often suffered really cruel fates after bragging to the gods about something or when they committed a crime that was against godly laws. The punishment always seems cruel or even borderline unfair especially in Cassandra's case but it is more a cause and an effect rather than fair or unfair.

Cassandra took the gifts the gods were offering but refused the price she had originally planned to pay. Was she "in the wrong" to change her mind the last minute when she wanted to stay pure? Well, no in speech of human to human but was Odysseus more in the wrong to blinden Poseidon's son so that he could save himself and his men from the hands of a monster that was literally eating them and could crush them at any second like flies? Was he "in the wrong" for being furious and exhausted mentally and physically and lose control of his own emotions and daresay arrogance of it? No is the answer if you look at it from that perspective But this is not human deals we talk about. Is a deal with a god and a human and that means an unbreakable deal that has consequences. Similar to how in Bible and the Old Testament, Saul defied God not to let anything live in his attack and Saul actually defied that order by allowing some sheep and a fee people to live and God turned his back on him for defying his clear orders which led to the eventual fall of Saul and the rise of David. Like on human perspective is showing mercy a bad thing? Absolutely not but if a god requires or orders for something the humans must provide otherwise there are consequences.

This seems to be the cause and the effect case of Cassandra how she took a very precious gift that almost no one had and yet she didn't pay the price that Apollo required from her and what she had initially agreed upon. Gods of Greek Mythology of course are more human and close to humans than many modern religions but they are still gods and forces of nature and when humans make deals with them they are expected to keep them.
