TAZ Sapphic Week 2025 - Lost

When I saw this prompt I just had a flash of inspiration to draw Hurley and Sloane as that screenshot from the end of Howl’s Moving Castle, and then I ended up kinda making it my own. Just like in that scene, it’s supposed to be like Sloane is fully conscious but she’s so consumed by her curse that she can’t talk or move or otherwise react to anything, and Hurley is trying to get through to her.

Petals to the Metal was always my favorite part of TAZ Balance. These two broke my heart and changed my brain chemistry. I will also be sharing some less angsty art of them later in the week, for my own sake lol

The first is Whispore, a pure Ghost type, which looks like a hairy sphere with small hyphae at its base, big sad eyes, a small open mouth, and a glowing green ectoplasm around it. A couple of other spores trail in the distance behind it. The first evolution is Booshroom, a Ghost/Poison type, which looks like a green mushroom with a cap made to look like a classic ghost. It also has sad, scared eyes dripping black tears. The final evolution is Ghouluminesce, a Ghost/Poison mushroom with stubby legs and hyphae-like arms that drips black goo from its cap. It has no visible eyes but a wide mouth that also drips black, and from its hands come more glowing spores. End ID.]

New Fakemon line inspired by inky caps, bioluminescent shrooms, classic "bedsheet" ghosts, and will-o'-wisps! because why haven't we had 1) a Ghost mushroom playing on their associations with decay 2) a non-legendary Ghost/Poison since the Gastly line. Can we get it together. Anyway.

Whispore are rarely observed alone, trailing one after the other through dark woods. While they don't mean to lead travelers astray, being that they're lost themselves, wandering creatures are often drawn to the path of lights in the forest. This, of course, only gets them more lost than before.

When Whispore settle onto some forest debris, like leaf litter or dead trees, they become Booshroom. These frightened little things still feel lost and, on top of that, are now separated from their floating fellows. The energy they get from decaying matter turns to corrosive tears and black ooze that runs down their bodies.

Ghouluminesce has gained the power to make new glowing spores that it releases into the air, beginning the cycle again. Whereas the Whispore themselves don't know that they're leading people astray, Ghouluminesce has the aim of using them to draw in creatures to keep them company--or, should the lost creatures succumb in the woods, to give them something to eat.

In conclusion Game Freak hire me.
