Going by your prior first paragraph (thanks for answering), it implies there could be Necroknights made of different Rose colours but it's not done because Black is seen as the best choice for such a process. (Also, vampire kangaroo?? That is a weird visual.) But anyway, onto something different.

My question is about the cast, and more specifically, their motives. We already know bits and pieces about why they're there (mostly) and are odd enough for Mort's team. But like, why do some of them want to be knights in the first place? We know Jim was sort of forced into it and Lapis chose to put herself there (like an idiot, even with good intentions). But what of the rest and their reasons? Were they pressured by their society / family? A personal choice? Conscription? The reasons probably differ for each person, honestly.

But mostly, I am very curious about Morgan's motive to break tradition and become a White Rose Knight despite such a thing not happening for centuries. I presume he may want to prove something? That would be my guess, to an extent. Have a good rest of your day! ☆

HahaHA I should've expected this question, but it still gave me a small startle and I'm glad you brought it up! Sure, I'm gonna be saving most of the nitty-gritty details for the official RK comic, but I think it is very fair to share why some of the others became knights... or why they are trying to become knights despite the expectations of society >:3 For Bristly, it's a simple combination of conscription and spite. He's riding out the drills and training to prove a point. George's reasoning is much more personal and infinitely more petty. If he can't prove he's got strength by Dragon standards, he'll become strong by Rose standards instead! Barbara become a knight of her own free-will (she thinks it'll make her look cool XD) Tara wants to become a Knight so bad it's not even funny. What a shame her family have decided to bench her "for her own safety" since they discovered she was sick with rot. Rodgeric has also been blocked from becoming a knight, but that doesn't stop him from trying to follow their dreams of proving they are not the delicate flower everyone believes him to be

And Morgan? *inhale* YEAH, it's mostly an attempt to break the stereotypes White's have been suffering for way too long. amongst other reasons And fortunately for him, he's living in a time where the crown Rose prince is publicly unashamed of being White, and the Rose Queen has been making a lot of effort to get White Roses "more included" in all areas of society. Honestly tho, if Morgan had been any color except white? I don't think he would've wanted to become a knight. Not his speed, not his style, not his cup of tea in any flavor. But hey, you do what you can to gain some control over your own life, right?

Boulder, Blades and Chase all shake their helms.

Heatwave's eyebrows go up, disappearing past the brim of his helmet. "So... do just not have mechs who care about you...?"

The three of them exchange a glance. Boulder's shoulders lift up to their audials, almost embarrassed.

They really don't know much about Heatwave was raised, but his corner of the room is the only one that actually looks lived in. The rest of them had only brought the absolute necessities (or in Boulder's case, everything they owned- which was a few smuggled nanite patches and a jar of polish Rubble had given them for their forging day last vorn), so besides the calendar on Chase's wall, their berths are barren.

"Well-" Chase starts, at the same time Blades says, "No." Boulder doesn't respond, because the answer is yes, but not the yes that Heatwave wants to hear.

"Oh." Heatwave's mouth pulls into a frown, tugging at the scars on his cheek. "I guess we'll have to fix that."

That startles a harsh, humorless laugh out of Blades. "Oh, please, Heatwave. Fix my upbringing-"

"Not what I meant," Heatwave interrupts, crossing his arms close to his chassis. "I meant like. The pillows and the blankets. I can fix that."

"No, you can't," Chase says, crossing his own arms as his finials pin back and his doorwings droop. "I have seen the balance of your credit chip. You will not be able to afford anything in Iacon."

Heatwave gasps in affront. "I so can-"

"Look, I have an allowance, I can afford my own stuff-" Blades starts, clearly trying to avoid a fight.

"I also have more shanix than you," Chase tells Heatwave. "I can also purchase my own items."

"That's not the point," Heatwave growls, pinching the bridge of his nose between two fingers. "I wanna do something nice for you guys! Besides, there's definitely places in Iacon where I can afford pillows and blankets. You-" he points accusingly at Chase, "-just don't know where to look!"

Chase's doorwings shoot up, offended. "You-"

"Okay, okay, that's enough." Boulder places themselves in between the two before the argument can escalate even further. "Here's an idea. All go together to one of Heatwave's stores and we pool our shanix to buy what we want. Does that sound good?"

Blades grabs Boulder's arm and holds tight, pressing against them in a silent Thank you!. Heatwave and Chase both stare at them balefully, before conceding and letting Boulder push them apart.

"Thank you," they say, then turn to Heatwave. "So where are these affordable shops?"

Boulder was raised not to want material things. Boulder was raised believing they weren't worth material things.

They would've been fine with one pillow and one blanket. Maybe even just the blanket. But their roommates are truly a force to be reckoned with-

-which is why the four of them are stumbling through the streets of Iacon on the way home, arms piled so high with soft things that they can barely see over them. Chase has already run into Blades three times and Heatwave has almost been hit by a transport.

It should feel bad. Boulder should feel guilty for giving into temptation and taking more than they're worth.

But somehow- somehow it feels like this is what they're worth. That they deserve to have friends and nice things and a soft berth to recharge in.

Rubble would be happy for me, they assure themselves.

I can be happy for me too.

Hi! I'm so sorry for the late ask but- Well. We (and by that I mean all the people involved in the au) got a bit too excited over your ask and just decided to make an entire power point presentation, idea of @riacte (thank you Ria I adore you).

This will be our masterpost too so hopefully we're able to keep up to date and gather more of the countless documents we've got with lore and such, and arrange them into here. The posts in my blog are not really in chronological order, and most of the recent art I've got are meant to be like random screenshot of random boring scenes, which intentionally adds nothing to the perception of chronological order- but that's where the story part of the power point comes in, that one's definetly in order!

In the spopera power point aka the spowerpoint, we go in depth into the story of the au, each main character and a few of the other ones, the space racing sport made up for the story, planets and alien species, a few written publications in AO3, and the in-universe social media aspects.

Here's a very small preview of what's in the presentation; this is just a tiny snippet of the written premise we've got, so I absolutely recommend checking out the actual slide presentation. We're like, ridiculously proud of it and had a lot of fun.

As for what inspired this au, literally this single message sent by @jazzyjesse. It sort of sparked that "I love space" part of everyone's brain in the server and we just started to brainstorm immediately on top of it.
