The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1989). An account of Baron Munchausen's supposed travels and fantastical experiences across late 18th-century Europe with his band of misfits.
Bonkers and full of imagination in a way that it feels you don't really get much of anymore. The practical effects here are what really make the movie a visual innovation, but the plot and performances are pretty fun too. Really feels like the most Monty Python work of the post-Monty Python era output. 8/10.

Some very important facts in my life right now:
I'm currently visiting NYC with my kidlets, aged 8 and 10.
We are staying about three blocks away from the Empire State Building.
There is currently a giant inflatable dragon wrapped around the Empire State Building.
Kidlets are delighted by the dragon.
Kidlets are rather more delighted by the dragon than might be expected.
Yes, you might say, it's a dragon wrapped around a famous skyscraper, where's the surprise in that?
No surprise.
It's just that they're extremely excited.
They're reading Terry Pratchett 's Guards! Guards!
A book that features a giant dragon swooping off the tallest tower in the great city of Anhk Morpork.
They are quoting the book constantly
"The shape that looked like a large pair of wings unfurling was, in fact, a large pair of wings unfurling."
All the time
"Dragons don’t have friends! The nearest they can get to the idea is an enemy who is still alive!"
Little girls, wandering through the tourist attractions of midtown Manhattan, like
"A people united can never be ignited!"
With such enthusiasm
"This is going to be the world's first democratically killed dragon! One man, one stab!
I love them so much, I'm so proud, I picked the right partner, we made the best possible kids

(It's a promo for HBO's Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon)

Fan Fiction Recommendations - Pinned Post
Thought it might be helpful to save links to my weekly fan fic recommendations. Organized by theme, each post gives you the rating and enough information to give you an idea of whether it's a good choice for you to read. And you'll find more great suggestions in the comments and reblogs. Just one more option for a fan fic reference desk. Scroll down for links--oldest first. Recommended WIPs at the bottom.
2024
11/8/24 - Fics that Made Me LOL - These are the funniest fics; the ones that actually had me laughing out loud. I'll definitely need to revisit this theme. So many to add to the list.
11/15/24 - Current Best of the Best - Snapshot of my absolute favorite fics at this moment in time. Fics I loved and can't imagine ever forgetting.
11/22/24 - Human AUs - These are the fics that finally convinced me to read our ineffable pair depicted as humans. And I've never looked back.
11/28/24 - Banter - Who doesn't love saucy banter? Here are my fave stories with witty dialogue.
12/6/24 - Illustrated Stories - It's in the name. These include comics and traditional fics with illustrations.
12/13/24 - Smooth Criminals - Fics that involve criminal undertakings.
12/20/24 - Christmas - I limit myself to one, very special Christmas fic. Hard to imagine any story better than this one.
12/27/24 - Through the Ages - Do you really need an explanation? My fave fics that show our ineffable pair in different time periods.
2025
1/3/25 - The Bentley - Fics in which our favorite sentient car gets her due.
1/10/25 - "Mixed" AUs - Stories in which one of the ineffable pair is mortal and the other is supernatural.
1/17/25 - Animal Shenanigans, pt 1 - Fics in which animals play an important role.
1/24/25 - Animal Shenanigans, pt 2 - One week was not enough to contain so many charming, animal-centric fics.
1/31/25 - Resistance - My favorite fics centered around resistance against powerful forces and nasty people.
2/7/25 - Read the Footnotes, pt 1 - I highlight two writers who write particularly clever and fascinating footnotes for their fics, in the style of Terry Pratchett. More to come in a future post.
2/14/25 - Be My Valentine - Recommending 3 Valentine's Day fics and 3 more that are about wooing, but not necessarily in February.
2/21/25 - Read the Footnotes, pt 2 - I share more favorite fics with clever footnotes.
2/28/25 - Alt Season 3 Speculations - These are my favorite post-season 2 fics that aren't what you might expect.
3/7/25 - Timey-Wimey - Some of the best fics that deal with time being weird. The first on the list is a unique treat.
3/14/2025 - Magic in the Air - My favorite fics featuring Fell the Marvelous (and yes, Crowley too) as magicians.
3/21/2025 - Ineffable Reality TV - Our ineffable pair end up on reality tv. Amazingly, three of them are not human AUs. Does not include any dating/marriage shows.
3/28/2025 - Spies in Disguise - Fics in which spying is a major part of the story. Lots of fun.
4/4/25 - Epistolary - Stories in which hand written letters are the centerpiece. Does not include texts, diaries, or emails.
4/11/25 - Top-Rated One-Shots - These are the single chapter works that get my highest ratings. Some will make you laugh. Some will make you cry. But they're all terrific.
4/18/25 - Texting - These fics center on texts. They range from the silly to the spicy with a sweet, tender love story in between.
4/25/25 - Sexy (but not explicit) - Focusing on moments in fics that are sexy but not explicit. Note: some of the fics themselves are explicit, even if the moment I highlight is not.
❖❖❖
And finally, I've started recommending WIPs. Listing them here and marking them complete as they finish.
2/2/25 - Cayuga Blush (M) by asparkofgoodness/@thetunewillcome - Human AU with amazing link to canon in which Crowley and Aziraphale operate competing vineyards.
2/5/25 - Pages About You; Pages About Me (T) by D_Cocca/@dcocca - Aziraphale the bookstore owner and Crowley the comic shop owner become close while recommending reading material for each other.
2/19/25 - You Can Have It (E) by @voluptatiscausa - Aziraphale gets unwanted flowers from an ex. An empathetic delivery person helps him realize he's worth more than he's settled for in the past.
2/26/25 - Moonstruck (E) by @foolishlovers - Crowley is a single dad struggling with his responsibilities when the angelic bartender at his monthly stop shows him he deserves to take care of himself as well. COMPLETE
3/5/25 - Bonded (E) by AppleSeeds - Aziraphale travels to his grandfather's quarry to suggest how things can improve. He's entranced by the worker, Crowley, who has a mysterious secret. COMPLETE
3/12/25 - Chef's Kiss (E) by @joyandotherstories - Aziraphale is a positive, YouTube chef who appears on Crowley's food network show famous for nasty treatment of the guests. Human AU but well integrated into Good Omens canon.
3/19/25 - where the nodding violet grows (M) by @omens-for-ophelia- Crowley suspects there's a fairy living in his garden. But the fae creature only appears once Crowley offers a gift suitable for his standards. Lovely story and art.
3/26/25 - Dead Right (E) by @anatomic-girl. A cut above even the best fake marriage trope with loads of characters as charming as our ineffable pair (including two adorable cats).
4/2/25 - shoutout to @raxacoricofallapatoriusrulez, a prolific writer with several fics in progress.
4/9/25 - In Night Blooms by @gaiaseyes451, Aziraphale is drawn to a familiar but neglected garden where he picks some blooms to brew into a tea. Soon he starts having mysterious dreams.
4/16/25 - Wavelengths & Frequencies by @shadesofecclescakes and imposterssyndrome/@maaikeatthefullmoon is a hilarious romp through the friends to enemies to friends to (?) journeys of DJs Crowley and Aziraphale. LOL funny!
4/23/25 - Parliamentary Procedure. A rare, themed WIP rec of Honourable Members (E) by @groovynightstrawberry and Crossing the Floor (M) by AlwaysTuesday.
If you're seeing this as a reblog, you can find the original (most-up-to-date) version here.
And if my tastes match yours, check out my AO3 bookmarks highlighting the top 10% of all fics I've read.

East 17 - It's Alright 1993
East 17 are an English pop boy band started by Tony Mortimer, Brian Harvey, John Hendy, and Terry Coldwell in 1991, and named after the postcode of their hometown, Walthamstow. They have released 18 top 20 singles and four top 10 albums and was one of the UK's most popular boybands during the early- to mid-1990s, aided by strong tabloid interest in their 'bad boy' image, compared to the clean-cut style of rivals Take That. "It's Alright" was written by Mortimer and was released in November 1993 as the sixth and last single from their debut album, Walthamstow.
In Europe, "It's Alright" peaked at number one in France, Ireland and Switzerland while reaching number two in both Germany and Lithuania. It was a top 10 hit in Austria (5), Belgium (6), the Netherlands (4), Norway (8), and the UK (3), as well as on the Eurochart Hot 100, where it hit number four. Outside Europe, it reached number one in Australia, where it spent seven weeks in a row and ended the year as the fourth-highest-selling single, and in Israel, where the song spent five weeks on the top spot. "It's Alright" earned a gold record in France, a silver record in the UK, and a platinum record in Australia and Germany.
"It's Alright" received a total of 53,8% yes votes.

Swampbound Masterlist

Pairing: Terry Richmond x Black OC [Adla Bennett]
Summary: Set against the eerie backdrop of the Florida swamps in the 1980s, this supernatural tale follows Adla Bennett, a woman navigating life after her father's death. When she discovers a wounded creature resembling a wolf on her porch, she shelters it for the night, only to learn the creature is a shapeshifter named Terry Richmond. He enlists her help in locating his missing cousin, Mike, intertwining their fates in unexpected ways.
Warnings: 18+ Minors DNI. Attitudes reflective of the 1980s (mild racism/misogyny), light gore, supernatural themes (including transformation, witchcraft), mild cursing, sexual content, emotional themes (grief and trauma), complex relationship dynamics, references to the loss of a child (not explicit), historical slavery (no explicit violence or derogatory language).

Digital Good Omens 2 Sountrack is coming out in 4 days! 🥳 CD version in October! :) ❤ Coming soon on vinyl…
Out to Stream/Download from 25th August. Out on CD 13th October. Coming soon on vinyl…
David Arnold’s ‘end of the world’ complex and multi-genre soundtrack.
From the Award-winning composer of Sherlock and Casino Royale comes a follow up to the hugely successful, Emmy nominated Good Omens soundtrack.
Good Omens series 2 premiered on Prime Video on 28th July. The series follows the odd couple, angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) in their quest to sabotage the end of the World. The six-episode sequel to the popular adaptation of the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, concerns the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) arriving without his memories to Aziraphale’s bookshop. Aziraphale and Crowley attempt to find out what happened to Gabriel, whilst hiding him from Heaven and Hell, both eager to find him.
The Soundtrack
David Arnold’s soundtrack to Good Omens was first released in 2019 to favourable reviews, with BBC Music Magazine calling it “a rollicking trip to hell and back”. Blueprint Magazine described it as “a great listen” and Sci Fi Bulletin commented on “plenty of memorable themes” to conclude that “This is another work of art from Arnold”. At times nostalgic and eerie but always varied, beautiful and full of excitement, the Good Omens 2 soundtrack showcases Arnold’s every skill from his composer arsenal. Featured here are orchestral arrangements with sprinkling of Sugar Plum Fairy pizzicato and percussion, jaunty strings and mighty choral sweeps from Crouch End Festival Chorus. Added to the mix are rock guitar riffs, and psychedelic 70s sounds and all together they create a haunting otherworldly feel, complementing the fantasy and the quirky humour of the show. The spirited Waltz of the opening theme is also present in the second series and it wonderfully sets the scene for fantastical mayhem. In series 2, this robust, evocative, and funny music entity, becomes yet again another character in the story. Award-winning composer David Arnold is well known for his blockbuster scores, including Stargate, The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Hot Fuzz, Paul, Independence Day, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Casino Royale as well as for his TV work such as Sherlock and Dracula. Also available: The original soundtrack to the first series of Good Omens >

If Stormlight Characters Read Mistborn Era 2...
As requested by @sobookobsessedreader :)
[This post contains WAT spoilers! Also spoilers for Mistborn Era 2!]
Hello! I am back from my travels and can now get back to plugging away at some requests! :D First up, let's imagine that, in defiance of gender and timeline, Stormlight characters could read Mistborn Era 2. What would their reactions be?
1. Dalinar [WAT Spoilers!]
Dalinar: I cannot believe I am saying this, but... Dalinar: I am glad that I only killed my wife once, at least. Sadeas: Do you believe that accidentally killing your wife is better than killing her on purpose (on god's orders) because she's a serial killer? Dalinar: ... Dalinar: Perhaps my and Wax's situations are not very comparable. Sadeas: Oh, I think they are. Sadeas: Just not in a way that is flattering to you. Dalinar: ... Dalinar: At least...I never became a weapon wielded by a Shard to get around their own limitations, then. Taravangian: [Whistling innocently] Dalinar: Did anyone else just get a chill?
2. Kaladin
Kaladin: I think this Wayne kid needs therapy. Kaladin: Getting real "he's Tien" vibes off of him. Szeth: ...In what way is a child who turned to crime after losing his parents similar to your brother? Kaladin: Well, it's-- Kaladin: Look it's just a thing I say.
3. Elhokar
Elhokar: I can't believe my Wit went off and became a driver! It seems like such a waste of his, well, wit. Elhokar: I don't think he's happy. Elhokar: Drinking perfume is a sure sign of stress. Elhokar: I hope he won't get stuck on such a boring planet ever again. Design: [Slides Yumi & the Nightmare Painter across the table to Elhokar] Elhokar: Oh? What's this?
4. Shallan
Shallan: I can't help but notice how chill the Scadrian Ghostbloods are. Mraize: Hm. Shallan: They're like, "Oh, you don't want to join? Cool beans, no worries." Mraize: Yes, they do show a shocking lack of conviction, don't they? Shallan: ...That's the founding branch. They made you! Mraize: Oh, and one's progenitor is always correct, hmmm? Shallan: ... Shallan: Shut up.
5. Stormfather
Stormfather: [rumbling in displeasure] Stormfather: Those men simply drink metal to get power? Stormfather: Where are their oaths? What keeps them in check? Syl: Hmmm... they do seem to have a limited metal supply sometimes? Stormfather: That's not a check!
6. Navani
Navani: The technology they have on Scadrial is impressive. Navani: ... Navani: Should I invent guns?
7. Venli
Venli: Can't help but notice how in Era 1 we had koloss and kandra and terrismen and humans...and in Era 2 it's just humans. Venli: Sure some of them have koloss blood or Terris ancestry... There's a kandra or two... and then humans and humans and humans. Venli: How many planets do humans need?? Rlain: Both main characters are Twinborn. Venli: I'm sure that's of great comfort to the terrismen who were systematically targeted for extinction...
8. Taravangian [Wat Spoilers!]
Taravangian: OH COME ON Tarvangian: EVEN VAPORIZING HIM DIDN'T WORK?! Taravangian: COCKROACH OF THE COSMERE, THAT GUY
9. Moash
Moash: Okay, but everyone can see that Miles Hundredlives was literally right, though, yeah? Moash: He was standing up for the powerless and the disenfranchised and he wanted the law to protect everyone, not just the rich! Kaladin: But he killed people, though. Moash: I am going to strangle you.
10. Syl
Syl: Huh...seeing Wayne work so hard to get Steris and Wax to break up so that Marasi and Wax could be together really made me realize something... Kaladin: Oh? Syl: Yeah! I could have worked WAY harder with you and Shallan! *I* never flooded a church! Kaladin: Steris and Wax love each other, though. Much like Adolin and Shallan. Syl: Oooh, but you and Adolin aren't siblings like Steris and Marasi! Syl: Rivals to OT3 still a go! Kaladin: What's an OT3? Syl (cheerfully): Don't worry about it! Syl: ...yet.
