Helios Talon Abraxas

Helios, (Greek: “Sun”) in Greek religion, the sun god, sometimes called a Titan. He drove a chariot daily from east to west across the sky and sailed around the northerly stream of Ocean each night in a huge cup.

In classical Greece, Helios was especially worshipped in Rhodes, where from at least the early 5th century bce he was regarded as the chief god, to whom the island belonged. His worship spread as he became increasingly identified with other deities, often under Eastern influence. From the 5th century bce, Apollo, originally a deity of radiant purity, was more and more interpreted as a sun god. Under the Roman Empire the sun itself came to be worshipped as the Unconquered Sun.

Hi all -- I'm on vacation this week, and I wanted to share with you some shots of my trip earlier today to Roger Williams Park Zoo to look at their "Dragons & Mythical Creatures" exhibit! This is a special exhibit running until August 11th where they've set up a bunch of simple animatronics of various mythical creatures from around the world around their Wetlands Trail path. The animatronics are a bit goofy, as you can probably see from the above pictures, but they were still fun to look at, and I had a good time going through and looking at them all with my folks. :) In order of their appearance in the photoset above, we have --

-->An alicorn (winged unicorn) right at the entrance

-->A siren by the lake -- they actually had three mermaids, but the other two were the traditional lovely ladies, so I decided to prioritize getting a picture of the one with the goofiest smile XD

-->Your traditional European dragon, who roared with glowing eyes

-->The Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, depicted in feathered serpent form wrapped around a pyramid

-->The Ninki Nanka, a West African beast with the face of a horse, the neck of a giraffe, and the body of a crocodile, which lives in muddy mangroves and according to the Limba people in Sierra Leone, causes thunder and lightning -- as you can see, this one has a horn for extra value

-->An Egyptian Sphinx sporting the traditional Egyptian funerary mask for pharaohs -- honestly, between that technicolor mask and the way it was wiggling its head, it was one of the most off-putting exhibits there

-->A Japanese kappa, a mischievous creature that here appears as a turtle standing upright with a vicious-looking beak and a divot on the top of its head -- I believe that divot is supposed to hold water, and if you can trick them into bowing to you, the water will flow out and they'll lose a lot of their powers

-->A Japanese Kasa-obake, which is an old and neglected umbrella that has picked up a spirit and become a mischievous ghost with a long tongue and a single eye. ...I will admit, I immediately accused it of being a Pokemon. XD

-->A traditional griffin, with the white feathered head, wings, and talons of an eagle and the body of a lion -- I especially like this one because it includes feathered ears as well, something you don't see on a lot of griffins -- but that you do see on the GRYPHON in the original Alice books!

-->A yeti -- who you may recognize as Bumble from the Rankin-Bass stop motion Christmas films, because apparently the park couldn't resist

-->FUCKING CTHULHU. With his head out of proportion to the rest of his body. If you're wondering what the hell he's doing here, Roger Williams Park Zoo is in Providence, Rhode Island, which just so happens to be the birthplace of HP Lovecraft. I guess they felt they had to. XD

WTTT cryptid/animal hcs cuz I'm bored. Also these might make absolutely ZERO sense whatsoever, but thats fine.

New York:

Ive decided that his cryptid/animal form is a blue jay/cat hybrid. Why? Idk tbh. We as a fandom have decided that he is a cat in human form, and the blue-jay is apparently one of the most common birds in NY (and theyre pretty as hell-). I dont really have a good reason lmao. He has the wings of a blue jay (along with some feathers around his back/neck/torso) and cat ears and tail (tho his tail has feathers on it that spread out to look like a blue jay's tailfeathers.) and claws. Also his eyes are gold and his pupils are slits :3. His claws come out of the base of his fingernails, almost like Wolverine's. His speed and agility is increased quite a bit, he can climb even better, amd hear things that he wouldn't normally be able to hear.

Louisiana:

The little voices in my head have all come together and decided that he's a gator/wolf hybrid. Wolf cuz ✨Rougarou✨ and gator cuz why tf not. He has wolf ears and tail, and gator scales on his back/neck/forearms, as well as a bit of his torso. His eyes are a bright yellow and he has slit pupils like an alligator. His teeth can very from being all sharp, or just his canines. His strength, speed, stamina, swimming and hearing/smell abilities all are increased.

Texas:

I just do what the little voices in my head tell me to. He's a deer/northern mockingbird hybrid (cuz deer are the most widespread large mammal in Texas and his state bird is the northern mockingbird). He has antlers and deer hooves and tail, as well as mockingbird wings. His hearing, speed, and jumping abilities are all increased. He's also very alert and gets scared very easily (easier than usual, and he hates it). He definitely headbutts Alaska and California and others that he's able to (some of the taller states).

Massachusetts:

To be completely honest, I haven't though too much, but I'm thinking maybe a raccoon or a chickadee. Raccoon cuz hehe funny, and chickadee cuz the black-capped chickadee is his state bird. This might be one I have to think about more tbh.

Gov:

He's an eagle, no questions asked. I mean- for God's sake he's the closest thing we have to full personification of America, so yes. He has large eagle wings and bright yellow eyes with slit pupils. His legs from the knee down can either be like eagle's legs/talons, or they can be normal, and he has talons instead of fingernails. He has feathers along his neck/back and a long the sides of his face. His speed and strength are both increased.

Alaska:

Again, the little voices are telling me that he's a polar bear/moose hybrid. Pretty much most of him is par bear, as in he has white fur on most of him, he has the claws, and white bear ears and tail and the tips of his hair are white. The moose part of him is literally just a pair of moose antlers. And his strength is heavily increased (not that that was necessary-). He has 100% headbutted Texas back and sent him for a trip.

California:

He is ✨grizzly bear✨. It just makes sense. He has the bear ears, tail, and claws. And fur along his back, torso, neck, forearms, and legs. Also he's like 10x stronger (again, not necessary :') he's already buff enough) and has definitely thrown Texas a few times.

Nevada:

Big horned sheep. He has ram horns, the legs of a ram, and a tail. And he definitely headbutts people. For funsies.

Colorado:

Basically the same as Nevada. Also he gets the munchies cuz he's high 24/7 and eats literally anything. Chair? Munch. Plastic? Munch. Rock? M u n c h.

Florida:

That's not even a question lmao. He's an alligator. He has the yellow eyes and slit pupils, alligator scales on his arms/back/legs/neck. And he's a lot stronger and can swim faster.

New Jersey:

He is a demon/devil hybrid, no questions asked. He has elf-like ears, devil horns/tail/wings, bright red eyes, sharp teeth, and black patches all over his body.

Rhode Island:

Hehe. He's a raccoon cuz i said so. And nobody is changing my damn mind. He has the floofy tail and ears and claws and teeth. He is angy short raccoon :3

The Fel Empire has been rounding up lost and fallen jedi since the attack on the Ossus Project.

Taiyang tempers Pontites and forges synthetic crystals to utilise in his highly customised lightsabers.

Taiyang has also created his own lightsaber using pontite crystals, but this one requires further maintenance because natural crystals do not react well after artificial tempering.

Ruby has found a way to augment the crystals during the forging process into creating a superior blade.

Oscar is given Ozma’s personal lightsaber until Ruby arrives with the new ones, and after the Acolytes are defeated, he returns it to Ozma.

Margrave Ozma’s personal lightsaber has a blue blade, and it is powered by three natural crystals.

One Solari to widen the blade.

One Durindfire, which gives the blade a silver-sheen.

One Pontite that instills a calm in the wielder and others around.

The Acolytes who come to the Margrave's home are sworn to Darth Nihl and Maladi.

But have also sworn allegiance to a hidden Lord of the Sith calling herself Darth Bellum, who hails from the Old Republic.

Fighter: Medea Source(s): Apollonius of Rhodes' Argonautica, Euripides' Medea, various other mythological sources Bio: Medea was a sorceress from Colchis, where the golden fleece was housed. When Jason arrived in pursuit of the fleece, Hera wanted to help him, so she got Aphrodite to make Medea fall in love with him because she knew Medea had skills that would be useful. Medea did help, in exchange for Jason's hand in marriage: she used her magic and knowledge to protect him through the tasks the king had him complete to get the golden fleece, and then when it turned out the king didn't plan to give Jason the fleece, Medea put the dragon guarding the fleece to sleep while Jason stole it. She then joined Jason and the Argonauts in flight. When the Argo was caught by Medea's half-brother, Apsyrtus, Medea tricked him into a trap so Jason could kill him. Start Notes:

As the leader of the 141, Price is allowed to accept whoever he wants into his task force. Despite the upper brass’s complaints he welcomes all whom he feels has potential. Including a young, hot headed Peregrine Falcon.

Soap is a Falcon–in Avian society that makes him Royalty; it also makes him a freak. Falcons are powerful magic weavers, and therefore met with fear and suspicion by the rest of the Avian society. Due to his Falcon blood (and no shortage of skill on his part) Soap is one of the youngest members of the SAS. Being the perpetual “new guy”, however, leaves a bitter taste in Soap’s mouth as he tries to fit in among his fellow soldiers. It is made a little easier by the fact there is a second Falcon–his life-long friend and personal bodyguard (though Soap doesn’t feel he needs one)–Aegis. (Aegis = Shield).

Ideas:

-Ghost's wings are broken because of torture

-Soap is a Royal Falcon with sealed magic - thrown out by his family and magic carved into his skin to seal his powers - he stole the form of a Sparrow Hawk to keep his wings before being sealed

-Aegis won her freedom from The White City, and chose to continue to protect Soap (despite the need for pure Falcon blood).

-Soap is welcomed where Aegis is not because no one knows he's a Falcon. (Only his eyes (crystal blue instead of Amber) are a giveaway).

-Soap protects Aegis socially as she helps protect him physically. Though Soap swears he doesn't need a bodyguard, he accepts Aegis as a comrade.

-After developing a close relationship to Ghost, Soap wants to heal his wings, but cannot without magic. He has a hard time convincing Ghost to let Aegis help. Eventually does.

-Konig feels like a freak in both forms due to his immense size. Until he falls for Aegis. She challenges him in the field and in the bedroom

Richard asks, as he idly looked down to his watch the screen lighting up to display his personal reminder about needing to take care of the books, and set up payments for billing, count down the safe and such.With the café in it's more quite hours of the day it seemed to be the right time to step away from the counter himself. Besides Buddy was growing older and able to handle more responsibility in the café. With their own dreams of a bakery it was good practice for the little bird to have.

Buddy seemed out of it anyway least till they became, distracted by their phone screen and soon asked about if it be alright for Rhodes to drop by and Buddy taking a break. Buddy was always pretty lively but they seemed to just light up more when asking. Richard pretended to mull it over of course, before nodding his head. He knew there was no harm in it of course. Of course, they followed it by asking about Charlie as well and again he just nodded. Those two were bad kids themselves so he saw no harm. "Just make sure to clean up first before you sit with them alright?" Richard stated, cleaning during the quite periods was always best but he tended to keep things clean the whole time so at best Buddy only had to wash a few cups and wipe down the counter.

"If someone comes in just take their order, but you should be fine to sit and chat for awhile anyway. I know you'll keep watch on the front end." Richard says before removing his own apron and hanging it up as he went about his way so to give the two some privacy. Making way towards his office, he sure he can hear Buddy singing to himself just before he settled down at his desk and made a point to check out the time. Bailey would be in soon, he should get through a few things before he had to take his own quote on quote 'break' himself.

It was cute though he thought to himself as he busied himself. It reminded himself of when he knew there were feelings started to develop on his own end when it came to Bailey. Even Richard tend to frame the whole taking breaks more as him being interrupted during his work day because Bailey didn't know how to leave him alone. Yet, in a sense Richard reward the behavior because he always gave in and took a break. Seeing Buddy display the same act? was cute to the older bird. Buddy wasn't as bad as Richard but they had the same habit themself. So when Buddy started showing an interest in more than working? Well Buddy had always been very much like Richard himself. Their friend Rhodes living in a different city didn't come by often due to that so it didn't seem to out there at first that Buddy would break to hang out with them. But? it started to become obvious over time least to Richard.

Richard did hear the front door chime from the back of the café. When he heard Bailey's voice he could assume one was his husband. Barely just about to make out the sound of some short greetings being given. Richard always kept the office door open when he let Buddy man the front. Not because Richard thought they couldn't handle it of course, more just to be on the safe side is all. Richard continued to do as he was however even when he could hear the talons clicking against the floor coming closer to the back office.

"Ooooh, our little Buddy has it bad,"

Richard attention drifted away from the screen a moment to look up at Bailey as they enter the back office. Seems both of them had taken notice to Buddy's current state.

"I bet it's for Charlie."

"You think it's Charlie?" That actually got Richard to pause what he was in the middle off as he moved to lean back in his chair even. Curious on why Bailey thought it was Charlie that Buddy had taken a romantic liking towards.

"You know, they're in love,"

Richard simply arched up a brow at the comment, wondering if Bailey meant Buddy alone was in love or if Bailey meant Buddy and Charlie were in love with each other.

"You haven't noticed how peculiar they've been acting recently? Moping about, daydreaming, singing to themselves - you can't say you haven't noticed Richy~"

Richard tilted his head back to look at the ceiling and place a hand under his chin thinking a moment. Yeah he had noticed during work Buddy would at times do all those things. He was doing them before hand even now that he really did take a moment to think about it. Buddy been quite maybe they were daydreaming like Bailey said and they had just about heard their little bird sing? Richard dose offer a nod to show Bailey he had noticed before he speaks. "Well, yes in fact I have noticed some changes in Buddy lately. I have had to snap their attention back a few times because of the daydreaming or mopping, and have noticed them singing songs under their breath here and there." That seemed to only give proof to Bailey's claim here.

"Buddy's acting just like I did when I knew I was in love with you, it just makes sense,"

Richard titled his head at the remark there offering a faint smirk on his beak. But he let Bailey continue to speak.

"And it just makes sense they'd have eyes for another Rooster; Buddy is a lot like you after all Richy~"

"yes because my type was clearly rooster." Richard slightly joked, Moving to lean forward a bit in his seat. "And yes Buddy dose seem to take after me a lot which good for anyone they may end up liking cause if Buddy were more like you? They run away and turn everything into a telenovela scene." Richard smirk only more at Bailey. "Though I don't know if I agree on it being Charlie, I think it's Rhodes." moving back to the topic at hand. "I mean they share a bit in common and Buddy always stops working for a break simply to chat even if it's just a video call. And as you said Buddy is a lot like me. And I knew I in love with you when I started to take breaks, just for you. Nothing else ever seemed my time to do so after all." Even if at first it was like trying to pray teeth out of Richard to take a break, but hey if Bailey could leave details out so could Richard.

"I think they just may lack my taste in poultry is all." Richard says feeling pretty positive on his own guess on which of the two Buddy's pixel eyes been drawn towards. "Besides Rhodes doesn't like Starducks and Charlie dose, that alone seems to show some difference far too much difference clearly." Or Richard biased was showing here, considering Bailey used to like Starducks themself. And not that that alone was going to prove a single thing But Richard felt pretty sure on his guess here despite that fact. "So I think you are right about our little bird being love just got the wrong bird."

That seemed to draws Richard attention else where now, "hmm I know Buddy been on a date already but are we sure they are even old enough for all this yet? Sure they are 15 but maybe we needed to talk about dating and such with Buddy first?" Richard offered "Just see if Buddy really ready to handle it all?" It might not be Buddy who isn't ready for this though.

In classical Greece, Helios was especially worshipped in Rhodes, where from at least the early 5th century bce he was regarded as the chief god, to whom the island belonged. His worship spread as he became increasingly identified with other deities, often under Eastern influence. From the 5th century bce, Apollo, originally a deity of radiant purity, was more and more interpreted as a sun god. Under the Roman Empire the sun itself came to be worshipped as the Unconquered Sun.

Veer only gave a short nod to Rhodes’ question if she could be honest. He figured she could be, whether he’d believe her was a second, no matter how he really wanted to, his gut was telling him to not trust this blindly. To set personal feelings aside and assess the situation with a clear mind. 

As if he could properly do that when he heard Goldie’s shrill laughter, the instant need to check up on her, even though they were sure she was just having fun. They knew that for Goldie, they’d have to pay attention, for Goldie, they’d have to give Rhodes a chance to explain. They gritted their teeth against what might come, they felt like they were going to get an explanation, but their mind was trying to convince them that they were about to hear all the reasons why they had to leave. They were a danger to that little girl, to Rhodes’ inner peace. A reminder of a turbulent life. They were an individual who could not be trusted, and who might as well step into a trap. 

They took a deep breath, resisting the urge to down another coffee and hope the caffeine would take over. Resisting the urge to… to kiss Rhodes. Pull her into his arms, because if this was once again their last day of freedom, then they wanted to spend it like they had last time, being close to Rhodes and everything Rhodes had. Wanting to fill their heart, fill it to the brim with the love they needed to survive another five years behind bars. Even if rage and anger would nestle there too, a breeding pit for both. 

The fear stayed, through Rhodes’ words. It was powerful, it had clawed a place in their heart, set talons through blood vessels and poured it all through their body, in every small area that was empty. But her request couldn’t be ignored. They couldn’t ignore how badly they wanted to hear this, how they’d been hoping that she’d let them stay, hoping that she’d want them to stay. Hope was far more powerful. More powerful than fear, than hatred, than despair. 

It was hope that had made Veer able to figure out the prison creature, to survive those first years. Even when they were sitting instead of some guy called Rishi Patel. Serving a sentence that wasn’t theirs, with no way to convince people otherwise. It was hope that they would soon see Rhodes again. And that Rhodes wasn’t about to let them go. They were similar creatures in that regard. 

He was struck by the message that she’d loved him, not love, not anymore, she’d missed and she’d thought that he would stay away because of her grandfather, not realising that he hadn’t had a choice, that he hadn’t known. 

But what did he want? What did he need? He’d never thought about that so hard that it almost became an obstacle of its own. He’d never faced a fire that he couldn’t fight, had never stood before a choice that was so hard to make. 

“I–” Veer had never even been at a loss for words. 

He stared at her, and wished he could’ve taken it back. Not went to search out Goldie, to be saved this situation now, because there was so much between them, so much he couldn’t fix. He didn’t know how to be a father, he didn’t know how to be a husband… he had no idea how to provide. 

So he began rambling, the only thing he had. The only skill that was inherently his own. “Your grandfather…” He’d never explained the full situation to Rhodes, because he’d been too happy to see her again, and he’d thought he’d get his chance later. Having escaped prison, he didn’t want to think about prison. Now he couldn't not think about prison. “He put me away on another man’s charges,” Veer began, the words falling over his tongue quickly, as he kept his voice low. “Some Rishi Patel, some other brown man, put me in a system and thought nobody would ever question that I didn’t belong there. He put me there because he didn’t want me to be with you. Maybe he thought you’d forget about me, in twenty years, when my sentence was up, you’d be all grown up and you’d be with someone he wanted. Because he never understood us. And I– I never doubted you’d be there when I got back. I never wanted to be away for so long, I never wanted to let him win. But—”

He looked back at Goldie, living her carefree life, not knowing what her family had done to her, how she’d already been a victim of family before she was even born. He turned back, his hands still encased in Rhodes’. “What can I be to her? To you? I’m a wanted man, with a record, with people looking for me, I don’t have anything to my name but some clothes and my own wit. I don’t think your grandfather will ever forget his feelings towards me, and even if he did, the damage has been done, I’m to face the consequences of his actions for the remainder of my life. And it would’ve been easy to avoid you and just hope you’d forget about me. Well, not easy, but at least it could’ve been done. Sach mein nahin, what am I saying, it would’ve been hard. But now it’s impossible.” 

They swallowed. “What if you tell her now… and then I get taken away again?” 

What do you want, Veer Shivakumar? What is the only thing you’ve ever wanted so badly in your life you’ve made stupid decisions over it? And was it worth it? 

Yes, yes it was. 

“Tumhaari khushi meri khushi,” he said, and he kissed her hands. Your happiness is my happiness. “It’s your decision. Can I stay even if I have nothing but possible heartache to offer to you and Goldie?”

Observing Veer's gentle and protective demeanor with their daughter unveils a new layer—a shining lens focusing her eyes on the truth and the love Ambrose Iverson's wrath could never match. Yet, her naivety becomes evident as she harbors the belief that these precious moments could mend time or erase the past as if it never happened. She feels an impulse to cling and embrace them, to hold on to that handsome face hands on each cheek imparting permanency in this brief lunch visit. The longing intensifies—an insatiable yearning to mend the fractures, bear the weight of her burdens, and somehow obliterate the pervasive pain that clings to them like a relentless shadow. “I don’t want you to go either. This is what we need-” She bites back her own emotions, corrects her wording, and displays selflessness in the light of her daughters’ wellbeing. “What she needs.” A heavy whisper, laden with a mix of desperation and sincerity, pleads, "Please know, this is what I’ve always wanted.” She takes their hands in hers, intertwining fingers as if seeking reassurance through the touch. “I never wanted you out of our lives. Please don’t think that anymore if you do.” The words carry a firm undertone, an earnest expression of her genuine desires and regrets.

A subtle yet palpable sense of fear emanates from Veer. If she were to succumb to the darker facets of her Iverson lineage, she might have welcomed that fear, savoring it with perverse relish, letting it pirouette on her tongue, driving her to the brink of madness with an insatiable hunger. Her empty stomach, had she embraced her true Iverson nature, would have yearned for that intoxicating mix of power and fear. Yet, the Iverson label, a mantle she never aspired to wear, feels like an ill-fitting garment forced upon her. Despite her earnest efforts to distance herself from the family legacy, the blood coursing through her veins resists dilution. It's an indelible mark, a reminder that, no matter how vehemently she denies it, Veer stands before her as a scorned embodiment of the family that threatened to consume her. “He used me to get to you.” Each word is a shard of the shattered trust she once had, now exposed to the harsh light of acknowledgment. The act of being used as a pawn in her grandfather's game is not just a confession; it's an admission of the insidious depths to which his malice runs. “Please understand, I would have never wanted to keep you away from her.”

The gaze Veer fixates upon her proves to be a seismic event, a tumultuous upheaval that feels akin to salt being mercilessly ground into an already infected wound. Their eyes, intense and unyielding, evoke a visceral unease, twisting her insides and inducing a nauseating churn in her stomach. Yet, paradoxically, amidst this discomfort, the attention and scrutiny bring forth a distinct kind of warmth – not the comforting sort, but a warmth rooted in raw reality. “She is.” Imparting three long nods, she admits the truth. Goldie was their little girl.

“Yours and mine.” Though her face is etched in misery, a smile widens-big and bright. “She has your smile, your sense of adventure, your love for bollywood, and your kindness. She's so good and pure and she reminds me every day about how much I loved you.” Spoken in the past tense-she doesn’t realize the err of her ways. That she is being inherently dishonest- she speaks of that love as if it only lived in the past. Wrong. She feels that love even now as teardrops edge the brim of her lids.

“She’s asked questions about you, and I’m only able to tell her half truths. I’ve been wanting to tell her -- how her grandpa is the reason why her father isn't around -- why you haven't come to see her-- why I get sad when she asks about you, but I don’t know how. It's too much for her and I don't want to ruin her, not while she's so perfect.”
