10. Hello! So, I've been in the mood for two kinds of fics, actually!

A) I just reread All old things are new again, by The Feels Whale and would LOVE more reincarnation or reincarnation with Immortal LWJ and/or WWX, where JC and LWJ just LOATHE each other and don't understand why, or LQR and WWX also hate each other and have no idea why, with either other one of wangxian knowing and don't know how to tell their parner or past lives and lingering strong feelings is just commum place. Just... That vibe of JC going "So why do I hate your ass?" and LWJ "...blinked slowly in a way that he knew drove Jiang Wanyin’s elder self insane. The trait apparently persisted through reincarnation because a dark red flush started to creep up the man’s neck."

B) I would really like Lan Xichen critical fics, not really bashing, but if possible, LWJ openly criticizing him, his attitudes, choises, hypocrisy and etc. Most importantly would be LWJ knowing and recognizing his mistakes and flaws. I read too many LWJs just glossing over his brother's whole thing and helping him out of seclusion, and for me that's not very much LWJ coded.

Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi work so well as a team and it's a big part of why their dynamic is so enjoyable.

They have very different skill sets, but they both know their own strengths and limits. And, at least later on after WWX is reincarnated, they also understand each others strengths and limitations.

WWX let's LWJ fight a lot of his physical battles for him, because he knows that he himself wouldn't be able to handle them but LWJ is more than capable to. A beautiful example of this is in Yi City when LWJ swoops in to fight Xue Yang, and tells WWX that he has the fight handled. WWX then analyses the situation and realizes he's of more help by bringing the Juniors to safety and investigating some more. Lan JingYi even brings this up, asking why they don't lose any words over WWX leaving LWJ behind in battle. And WWX tells him that he trusts LWJ has the situation handled so there would be no use in losing any more words over it.

On the other hand, WWX always does the talking for the two of them. When performing Inquiry, LWJ relays WWXs questions without hesitation.

When they are conducting research in the secret library in the Cloud Recesses and WWX decides to take a break, LWJ takes over his stack of books without hesitation or asking him to continue his work. WWX recognized that he needed a break and LWJ respects that and does his work for him since he still has the energy to keep researching.

They also respect each other a lot, even if they don't agree with each other. After WWXs reincarnation, LWJ never questions him about his demonic cultivation, even though he probably still doesn't quite approve of it. As for WWX I can't think of a specific example after his reincarnation rn, but I really love the scene where he drinks LWJs liquor for him at Jin GuangYao's private banquet, because the Lan Sect are not allowed to drink alcohol.

There's not a leader and a follower between them. They always listen when the other is talking, and depending on the situation one or the other takes the lead. In that way, they are equals and see each other as equals. They are not equal in any particular skill or even cultivation level, but through their different skill sets they can add onto each other skill sets.

TL;DR WWX and LWJ work so well as a team bc they know their own and each other's strengths and limitations very well, and know how to use them accordingly. They have a lot of trust and respect for each other even if they disagree. They see each other as equals and their skill sets add onto each other very well.

Prompt - Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji in the 15-year old selves's bodies

I just had a thought. imagine WWX and LWJ transmigrating into an alternate reality (which is pretty much the same, but events changed there do not affect events in their world) as their 15-year-old selves; and for half a day, they both think it's an individual thing; and then Wei Wuxian sees Lan Zhan, and can't control his words, "Oh my god, Lan Zhan so cute!!" and Lan Wangji is like "Wei Ying (fond) is adorable too."

and they both sorta have that look and realize they both transmigrated; and it's so funny because by the rules of the array (or whatever), they can't tell anyone where they are from, or about the future (like they can only personally act differently and suggest actions to other people, knowing very well they hold little power to cause systemic changes, just two nails in a machine, but well, what are they if not always trying).

and this time, Wei Wuxian doesn't punch Jin Zixuan "but Lan Zhan... I really wanted to," But he does say a grand choice of crass words that get him punishment with Lan Wangji again, who's forcibly out of his seclusion and in classes.

And in classes, Lan Wangji sits in front, ever the dutiful while Wei Wuxian sits behind him; sleeping, talking, flirting, writing notes; and Lan Wangji doesn't reprimand him as much; and when Jiang Cheng says rude shit to him, the Second Young Master Lan glares at him and everyone is so confused.

and they have punishment together in the library and it's just... Wei Wuxian courting Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji courting him back.

Contextless Flirting Has Won The Day It Seems

I've very nearly finished this in its entirety I think but for now here is the snippet as promised :))

"Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian complained, "Where are you dragging me to now? I haven't even done anything!"

Today, he added mentally. Well - since daybreak.

Lan Wangji did not spare him a glance. "Cultivation," he answered, his meaning quite clear: I will not neglect your core, and you will not be neglecting mine.

Wei Wuxian hung his head. This was so entirely unnecessary. He'd been able to feel as soon as he woke up that Lan Wangji's core was plenty strong - probably stronger than his! - and it would definitely, definitely not suffer from a week or two of slacking. But the Lan were creatures of habit to a fault; he should have expected that Lan Wangji would not suffer to let his body miss a single day's meditation.

To his surprise, Lan Wangji dragged him all the way to the Lan's cold spring. Then, perhaps even more confusingly, he did not undress or enter the water, instead sitting down on a rock near its edge and gesturing for Wei Wuxian to do the same. Not feeling in the mood for an argument, he did, only casting a slightly sour glance over to where Lan Wangji had already closed his eyes and begun to ignore him. It was an odd picture, Wei Wuxian thought - he doubted his face had ever looked so tranquil in his life.

Even if the sun was warm and the breeze refreshing, Wei Wuxian only managed a quarter of an hour before he could take no more and let himself slowly tip onto his back with a thud. When that earned him no response, he began to roll back and forth over the ground.

"Lan Zhan," he drawled, already covering his fresh grey robes with dirt and grass stains. "Lan Zhan. Lan Zhan!"

"Cultivation is performed in silence," Lan Wangji told him.

"You don't have to worry about my core, you know. Jiang Cheng will tell you, I've never bothered to meditate this much before now, and it's perfectly fine. You can feel it's strong, right?"

Lan Wangji fixed him with an odd look. Mostly, it was the usual cold judgement, but there was the tinest sprinkling of something else in there, too faint to identify any which way. "It could be stronger," he said. "If you applied yourself."

"I do apply myself," Wei Wuxian told him, feeling unusually defensive. "I just do it differently to you."

"Drinking alcohol and playing tricks is not application."

"Sure it is. My tricks exercise my mind, and drinking exercises my palate. Fun is also good for the spirit, you know."

Lan Wangji only closed his eyes again with a scathingly doubtful, "Mn."

Wei Wuxian huffed, picking a few blades of grass from his hair. Sitting in the sun had left him slightly sweaty, and he eyed the icy water of the cold spring contemplatively before hopping up onto Lan Wangji's rock and bending down towards him.

"Lan Zhan. Enough. Come swimming with me. Lan Zhan. Lan Zhan. Lan--"

He realised, abruptly, that he was being let away with a much higher level of annoyance than usual. At first, he'd thought it was an allowance due to their situation, but thinking on it further, either the depths of Lan Wangji's patience had tripled since the day before, or...

"Lan Zhan," he said again, squatting cautiously next to where he was still in his lotus pose, rigid and still as a jade figurine, "How come you haven't silenced me yet? Have you finally realised I'm entertaining after all?"

There was a barely perceptible twitch at the end of one of Lan Wangji's eyebrows. Wei Wuxian began to grin.

"Or... could it be that... the Lan silencing spell does not currently recognise Lan-er-gongzi as himself, and so..."

Slowly, Lan Wangji opened his eyes to fix him with a hard look. Wei Wuxian leaned back on his heels. "Ah, was I right?" he asked innocently. "I had hoped Lan-gongzi was just enjoying the conversation, but if I'm being an annoyance..."

"You are always an annoyance," Lan Wangji said, and closed his eyes again. Wei Wuxian took no offense at all, the corners of his mouth curling ever-higher, and he slouched fully onto the ground before reaching over and plucking a stem of tall, flowering grass from near the water's edge, twirling it between his fingers.

"Lan Zhan, do you like anyone?" he asked, watching his face carefully. He was rewarded with a very quickly suppressed flinch, and smiled slyly as he continued to wave the grass in his hand. "Ah, probably not, of course. Lan-er-gongzi is far too busy with his studies for such frivolities, right? Besides, your clan keeps men and women so separated, when would you have ever even spoken to a girl? Even if you wanted to."

Lan Wangji continued to steadfastly ignore him, but the furrow between his eyebrows was growing steadily deeper.

"Of course, if Lan-gongzi did have someone he liked, then all he would have to do right now is ask Wei-gege to go and flirt with her for him, if he was too inexperienced to do it himself," Wei Wuxian continued, tapping the fluffy end of the grass lightly against the end of Lan Wangji's nose. "Lan Zhan is very handsome, and I am very good at flirting. I got that loquat for you, remember? Even though you didn't want it." He trailed the grass down Lan Wangji's face, over his mouth down to his jaw, tickling underneath his chin. "So all you have to do is tell me who it is, and--"

Lan Wangji's eyes opened.

"Wei Ying," he said warningly. Just his name, no more. But Wei Wuxian felt his body go frigid, and then hot. His heart raced inside his chest like a prey animal. Even in someone else's voice, Lan Wangji's tone carried the same frost-burn chill, but this wasn't the hard, immovable glacier wall that he usually presented, no - this was the sound of rare winter days in Yungmeng when the lakes and rivers froze over, when you placed your foot onto a surface that looked solid only to feel before you heard the crack of it threatening to give way beneath you. The sound of the final, unmistakable warning it would give you, and if you didn't heed it, then all the more fool you were when it seized you and dragged you under into the current.

For once in his life, Wei Wuxian heeded. He backed off.

Emperor's Smile | 天子笑

How could I not make a post regarding Wei Wuxian's love for alcohol, more precisely about the iconic Emperor's Smile.

What is the Emperor's Smile:

Emperor's Smile (天子笑, Tiānzǐ Xiào) is a liquor sold in the city of Gusu where the Lan Sect is located.

The Wei Wuxian's Emperor Smile Tea is a black tea infused with Burbon, Rooibos, Ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, cornflowers, calendula, and vanilla. It has a very faint smoky flavor and when you drink it, it takes you to the burial grounds. Lan Wangji describes the taste as fragrant and mellow.

Emperor's Smile history in MDZS:

Although liquor is forbidden in the Cloud Recesses, as a student Wei Wuxian repeatedly breaks curfew to smuggle Emperor's Smile into the residence to share with his friends (Jiang Cheng & Nie Huaisang).

At the Burial Mounds, Wei Wuxian and Uncle Four agree that Emperor's Smile is indisputably the best wine they have tasted.

After Wei Wuxian's death, Lan Wangji purchases Emperor's Smile and drinks it for the first time. Though he does not like the taste, he understands why Wei Wuxian does.

Lan Wangji then keeps seven or eight jars of Emperor's Smile hidden beneath a floorboard in his room. However, upon his return to the Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian promptly discovers and drinks two jars of the wine, and refills them with water as a prank. This turns ironic later when Lan Wangji fetches Wei Wuxian two jars to drink, yet the two jars are water-filled jars. Lan Xichen, notably, sees the alcohol and allows it despite the rule against drinking.

After returning to the Cloud Recesses as a married couple, Lan Wangji keeps Emperor's Smile in the Jingshi for Wei Wuxian to drink.

Equivalents:

I somehow want to assume Emperor’s Smile is Baijiu (白酒), a Chinese liquor (or grain spirits). It is a colorless liquor typically coming in between 35% and 60% alcohol by volume (ABV).

It is distilled from various grains like sorghum, rice, wheat, corn, and/or millet. Every kind of baijiu uses its own type of qū for fermentation to create a distinct and characteristic flavor profile.

The four main "types" are defined as the rice aroma (a floral, light flavor), light aroma (a sweet, floral taste), sauce aroma (a sharp taste akin to soy sauce), and strong aroma (spicy and fruity).

Prices vary a lot depending on where you live and the brand, it can go as cheap as a can of beer up to thousands.

Note: I don’t have that much knowledge of alcohol as I rarely drink, so I tried my best by doing research.

Chapter 1

He somehow survives dinner, at which Wei Wuxian is oddly quiet, dressed in robes he had the servants put in his wardrobe so he knew damn well he found them, carrying both Chenqing and Suibian, and no he doesn’t feel any particular way about either except… good. He should wear those clothes and carry his sword. But Jiang Cheng sure as hell isn’t going to address either, not with Lan Wangji around. 

He makes sure to mention Jin Ling’s eminent arrival, probably the next day, asks that they not visit the ancestral shrine until then, and escapes as quickly as he can. 

Not quickly enough to avoid Lan Sizhui, who shows up at his office all polite to ask questions about growing lotuses. Jiang Cheng doubts they’d survive on that damnable mountain, but he thought the same thing about the Burial Mounds and Wei Wuxian got them to grow anyway. 

And so Jiang Cheng gives him a brief lecture on the growing of lotuses, and offers to introduce him to a local farmer. 

“They may not survive the winters in the Cloud Recesses,” he warns. “Though if you throw the problem to Wei Wuxian he’ll probably develop a brand new talisman to ensure they will.”

That gets a small chuckle from the boy, and he feels weirdly proud to have elicited it. Probably he has the same mental image Jiang Cheng does, of Wei Wuxian hunched over talisman paper, ink staining his fingers and probably his nose from his habit of rubbing it with one finger when he thinks. 

“Thank you, Jiang-zongzhu,” Lan Sizhui says with a bow. 

“Jiang-shushu, if Wei Wuxian is your die,” he corrects.

The boy should have always been his nephew, had things gone differently, but they can’t change the past; they can only move forward. If that’s even an option. 

Lan Sizhui’s smile widens and for a moment he is transported back to the Burial Mounds, the kid attached to his leg and grinning up at him. 

“Of course, Jiang-shushu,” the kid says, before exiting and leaving him blessedly alone to decidedly not tear up over the whole thing. 

He feels strangely lighter, something that barely makes sense even as it makes total sense, nonsensical in its contradiction. 

Hopefully he can get through the next few days with his sanity intact. 

He spends some time dealing with correspondence, then runs the late evening remedial training he instituted to help disciples struggling with forms. Both provide distractions, though with a letter from Yao-zongzhu he had to reply to, he can’t say they were all good. 

Jiang Cheng knows he can’t avoid Wei Wuxian forever, nor does he want to, and so he’s not entirely surprised to see his brother sitting at the edge of a pier overlooking the lotus ponds, his form lit up by the light of the waning half moon reflecting off the water. He has a servant retrieve some Lotus Breeze for them to share, knowing full well it’s better to do this with drink, too many emotions not to. It’s past Lan Wangji’s bedtime, so they shouldn’t be disturbed. 

He doesn’t know what to say, so he settles for saying nothing, just sitting down by Wei Wuxian and placing one of the bottles next to him. Wei Wuxian gropes for it without looking and takes a long drag, letting the alcohol spill from his mouth down his chin, and it’s such a familiar picture that Jiang Cheng could be back before the war, drinking on the pier with his brother. 

“You still wear your wine instead of drinking it,” he finds himself saying. 

Wei Wuxian only grins at him, taking the ribbing for what it is, and something in Jiang Cheng relaxes. 

“It’s about time you came home,” he says, purposefully looking at the moon instead of his brother. 

“I didn’t know if you’d want me here,” Wei Wuxian responds after a moment. 

“You’re an idiot,” he mutters, taking a deep swig of his own wine. “I should’ve just invited you, I guess, but you’ve never needed an invitation before.”

That receives a short laugh, but something in Wei Wuxian goes distant, like he’s many li away from Lotus Pier, and Jiang Cheng knows he’s thinking about A-Jie. 

He wants to kick himself—of course Wei Wuxian would think he needed an invitation; he probably still thought A-Jie’s death was his fault. Not that Jiang Cheng is any help there, having blamed him very publicly for the sixteen years of his death. 

But even if he wasn’t proven innocent, the victim of a smear campaign and a second flute, A-Jie pushed him aside to take that sword, gave her life for him. And Jiang Cheng had gone and cheapened that all these years, even trying to kill him as Lan Wangji tried to save him. 

No wonder the other man hates him. 

He pushes himself out of the spiral, knowing it does no good. What’s done is done, separate from what he does now. 

“Anyway, you’re home now. That’s what matters,” Jiang Cheng says, nudging his brother to get him out of his own spiral. 

Wei Wuxian looks at him with startled eyes, then smiles and has another sip of his wine. 

They sit and drink together until it’s clear to Jiang Cheng that Wei Wuxian is falling asleep where he sits, and then he bullies him to his feet and escorts him to the quarters he’s sharing with Lan Wangji. 

Tomorrow is another day, and Jin Ling will be arriving before midday. 

Wei Wuxian looks like a painted ghost at breakfast, having clearly slept poorly despite Jiang Cheng’s best intentions, and he can only hope his brother doesn’t fall asleep right into his congee. Lan Sizhui keeps to Lan expectations about silence during meals, and Jiang Cheng almost wishes they’d brought the loud Lan just so it wouldn’t be so quiet. 

Lan Wangji makes sure Wei Wuxian eats at least a little. 

Jiang Cheng arranges a boat for them to take on the lakes, even though there are no lotus seeds to eat this time of year. He hopes Wei Wuxian enjoys it, at least—he could care less about whether Lan Wangji enjoys it. By the time they’re back Jin Ling should have arrived. 

Lan Sizhui demurs rather than go on a boat, and Jiang Cheng recalls he gets seasick, or at least did on the trip to Lotus Pier after the failed siege of the Burial Mounds, so instead he introduces him to a lotus farmer so he can learn about the planting and cultivation of lotuses for what he presumes is a secret project for Wei Wuxian. 

That leaves Jiang Cheng to his own devices until Jin Ling arrives, and he focuses on answering correspondence and not losing his temper at Ouyang-zongzhu’s ridiculous letter about walking corpses supposedly being the work of Wei Wuxian, who clearly is in no condition to fuck around with the undead right now, and who was in Gusu until yesterday besides. 

Afterward, he spends his time going through the routine of Jiang moves, calming himself through the fluid movement, until he’s interrupted by a familiar voice, “Jiujiu.”

He hopes Jin Ling won’t mind Wei Wuxian’s presence for his mother’s birthday, and is relieved when his nephew only nods and asks if they brought Jingyi or Sizhui with them. 

Of course Jin Ling abandons him to go find Lan Sizhui, and they’re having lotus and pork rib soup for lunch and Jiang Cheng has no idea how Wei Wuxian will handle it because it’s not perfect like Jie’s. Because he’s not handling it, clearly, looking like a damn walking corpse and too quiet, and Jiang Cheng isn’t able to handle a Wei Wuxian who isn’t handling it well. 

Because his brother is supposed to bounce back. 

Only he remembers that first year after Jie died and his chest felt as hollowed-out as it did after Wen Zhuliu crushed his core all over again, even with Wei Wuxian’s spinning in its place. And he’d had two sets of anniversaries happening, two siblings dead, a sect to run, and a colicky nephew to take care of on top of it all. 

It’s not even just Jie for Wei Wuxian, who’d gone to Nightless City because Wen Qing and Wen Ning had been killed, one for real and the other faked, along with the other Wens he’d lived with for those last years; his brother who’d lost so much more that awful year, enough for Jie’s death to finish breaking him when he’d always bounced back before.  

Or maybe he hadn’t, but he hid it when he could, and Jiang Cheng didn’t look closely because he didn’t, and still doesn’t, know how to handle a Wei Wuxian who isn’t handling it. But this time he’s looking closer, trying to do something about it, because the alternative is to watch his brother break again, and that’s not happening. 

He stops spiraling with the help of some tea and meditation, and by that time Wei Wuxian is back with Lan Wangji, and Jin Ling is back with Lan Sizhui, and it’s lunchtime. At least Wei Wuxian looks a little less like a walking ghost, though the soup may mess that up. 

The worst thing about his relationship with Wei Wuxian is that Jiang Cheng doesn’t know how to fix it, how to help him. Before, they had A-Jie, and she always had the right words, was always there to warm them with her soup and affection, but Jiang Cheng always has the wrong words.

All he can do is offer no words at all, letting the soup speak for him. 

Wei Wuxian’s eyes go glassy as he’s served the soup, but he turns to Jin Ling instead of breaking down. 

“Your niang used to make this soup for A-Cheng and me, growing up.”

He relates the time Jie went to find Wei Wuxian because Jiang Cheng had chased him away with threats of dogs, though he doesn’t mention that part, just tells him of their strong sister, carrying the both of them home and then making them the best soup he’d ever had. 

“She made it all the time, just her way of showing she loved us.”

Jin Ling is rapt, a hungry look in his eyes to hear a story of his mother, and Jiang Cheng is so glad Wei Wuxian is back and can tell him these stories—he always was the better storyteller, with a knack for putting events in a sensible order. Jiang Cheng has tried, but he’s only one person who knew Jie, and Wei Wuxian makes two. 

“We should talk to Mianmian, see if she’ll tell you stories about your father,” Wei Wuxian comments. “We ran into her just before the second siege, so we know where to find her.”

“Mianmian?” Jin Ling asks doubtfully. 

“Luo Qingyang,” Lan Wangji supplies, “was close to your father, a friend.”

“I bet she’d be happy to tell you about him,” Wei Wuxian adds.

Jin Ling looks almost hungry at the idea, but speechless, so Jiang Cheng speaks for him, even as he beats himself up for not thinking of that years ago: “Contact her and see if she’ll go to Jinlintai.”

Wei Wuxian does that thing where he smiles and his eyes become half-moons, a true grin, and Jiang Cheng lets out a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding. 

“I’m sure she will now,” Lan Wangji says.

The “now” is fraught with implications, but all of them are against the Jin, so it’s funny snark instead of the jabs he sometimes hits Jiang Cheng with. Suddenly he can see why Wei Wuxian insists he’s funny. 

Now that Jin Guangshan is dead, and Jin Guangyao as well, with A-Ling working to root out the old corruption so that the Jin could be one day known for illuminating the world instead of just their wealth, Luo Qingyang will have no reason to avoid Jinlintai. She may even be willing to help A-Ling with rooting out that corruption.

Eventually, though, it is inevitable; lunch ends and the time has come to pay respect in the family shrine, where he had placed a tablet for Jie—there was also one in Lanling, but Jin Ling preferred to honor her at Lotus Pier for her birthday. 

Jiang Cheng has honored her like this sixteen times since her death, and this will be a first anniversary for Wei Wuxian, for whom those years had blinked by in his death, he imagined. His once-brother’s grief had been too raw for it to be any other way. He sees his first year in Wei Wuxian’s grieving. 

The piers twist around the various pavilions as Jiang Cheng leads the way to the shrine, letting him see how Wei Wuxian seems to shrink as they near; for all he’d been there before Guanyin Temple, this is different. 

He can only hope this visit will give Wei Wuxian some peace. 

They wind up not even seated near each other, with Wei Wuxian seated between Hanguang-Jun and his son, something that leaves him feeling blocked away. He doesn’t acknowledge the distance, though, knowing the Lans mean to offer him support through this, support Jiang Cheng should be responsible for, not that he’s shown himself trustworthy of that. 

While he could wallow in self-pity and make this visit all about himself, Jiang Cheng chooses instead to take a deep breath and push away the negative intrusive thoughts—this visit is about Jiejie, and about Wei Wuxian. 

Even Jin Ling is looking at Wei Wuxian with worry by now, and Jiang Cheng can feel him elbow Lan Sizhui, seated on the other side of Jin Ling, looking for an explanation that isn’t forthcoming. 

Seconds of a terrible pregnant silence pass, and Jiang Cheng can’t stand it, can understand how Wei Wuxian might need to fill it with chatter all the time. 

“A-Jie, we’ve come to visit you. A-Xian came home.”

The words spill from his lips before he can think, the affectionate version of Wei Wuxian’s name that Jiang Yanli had preferred feeling natural in his mouth. 

It would be perfect, except that Wei Wuxian starts crying, a sort of convulsive sob that sounds like a dam breaking lose. 

Lan Wangji immediately starts fussing, as does Lan Sizhui, while Jin Ling just freezes, looking like he’d rather run away than deal with a crying Wei Wuxian. 

Jiang Cheng knows exactly how he feels. 

“Don’t be a mess in front of A-Jie,” he hisses. “You’re a grown man.”

“Xianxian is three,” Wei Wuxian practically wails. 

The routine is comforting but A-Jie isn’t here to baby him like she used to, and Jiang  Cheng doesn't have that kind of patience.  

“Grow up, Wei Wuxian! If you’re only three, how are you supposed to have your wedding at Lotus Pier so A-Jie can be there?”

Okay, so Jiang Cheng absolutely doesn’t expect Wei Wuxian to cry harder, and if he doesn’t stop, he doesn’t trust himself not to fucking bawl; he can feel it itching in his chest.

“I swear, if you don’t stop ugly crying, I will—”

He suddenly becomes uncomfortably aware that Lan Wangji’s attention has alit on him—he isn’t afraid of the man! He just has a well-developed sense of self-preservation, one that makes his go-to threats unwise.

“—I will toss you right into the lake and hope you bothered to teach that body to swim!”

Dammit… now his brother is ugly laughing, too. 

When Wei Wuxian eventually stops laugh-crying, he turns to Jiang Cheng with a vulnerable expression that makes him shift uncomfortably. 

“You want me to get married at Lotus Pier?” he asks softly. “Even though we already eloped?”

Jiang Cheng huffed. Of course they eloped, probably the last time they were at Lotus Pier. At least they’re actually married. 

“Do you think one bow is enough for A-Jie? She deserves to see you in wedding red.”

Wei Wuxian’s face does something complicated. 

“Jiang Cheng… we didn’t elope here. We weren’t together then.”

He almost protests that of course they were together, but he stops short, glancing at Lan Wangji, who nods to confirm. So he misunderstood—they’d only been venerating his sister and parents, not taking their bows. Well, that’s one thing to not be upset about anymore. 

Lan Sizhui is watching them with a soft smile. Jin Ling nods, to urge him on. 

“Then, a real wedding. Here at Lotus Pier. What kind of brother would I be if I let you elope like it’s some disgrace?”

A wide smile spreads across his brother’s face, one that used to be frequent, one Jiang Cheng rarely sees anymore, and he decides right then to make Wei Wuxian smile like that more often, if he can. 

“I’d like that,” Wei Wuxian says softly. 

Lan Wangji looks almost approving, which wasn’t one of Jiang Cheng’s goals, but he’ll take it. 

“Good. We’ll get you measured for robes while you’re here. And start planning. I remember A-Jie’s ideas for your wedding.”

With a misty smile, Wei Wuxian turns toward Jiang Yanli’s tablet. 

“Shijie, did you hear? Xianxian is getting married!”

“And he’s going to visit more often,” Jiang Cheng adds firmly, catching Lan Sizhui’s eye to let him know he’s included. 

“Definitely,” Jin Ling adds, grinning, so excited he’s tugging on Lan Sizhui’s sleeve. “Dajiu.”

The laugh from Wei Wuxian, happy and not unlike the chiming of bells, tells him he said the right thing and reminds him to prepare clarity bells for the lot of them. 

He’ll claim them all for Lotus Pier, even the former Wen, and hopefully it will be enough to make up for everything, his abandonment when it mattered, in this incredible second chance.

So a two-shot here. I already have a wedding to write for “rain falls and soaks into the earth,” so unless this one insists on being written, I won’t write it. I’m sensing there’s some Lan Xichen POV to be written, though, so this series isn’t finished yet. 

Got into a clinical study for long Covid. We’ll see how it goes.

Because Wei Wuxian would drink out the shelves before the stores opened, Lan Wangji is forbidden from alcohol -unless the bar wants another literal hole in the wall opened up next to them, Luo Binghe would only make what Shizun likes and only for Shizun, Xie Lian would break 5 glasses and take 30 mins to prepare your drink... and it will be a health code violation, and Hua Cheng only has eyes for his gege. 💀 Mo Ran has worked in establishments before... he's got this...

I have so many thoughts on pregnant JC-_-

What do you wish for? Omega!JC getting pregnant via one of the eligible bachelors? During the Sunshot, getting pregnant via NMJ, and suffering through carrying the kid so big he spends the last two months mostly laying on his side and cursing to the heavens?;) A mutual-hel deal with Lan Xichen that will result in one heir for each in a post-war world where omegas of high station are rare? An alcohol-fueled night with Wei Wuxian, that left him with a pup and heart full of regret? Pick your poison!

I always liked the omega to be a bit of a dick and not compliant with stereotypes - except they are, but only with the important ones. Like JC being an angry bitch most of the time, but also a good parent to Jin Ling, caring about his safety and happiness, but in his own frank way.

As a mom, he'd be talking to his newborn child as if it was an adult disciple that constantly fucks up ("Now what? Spitting the food out again? Marvelous, now you have wasted the meal and dirtied another outfit. I'll have you run rounds around the compound if you dare to do it again!") There's no baby-talking ("I'd break your legs if they weren't so short! Look at these toes, too damn short! What are you giggling about, huh? Spend that energy in learning how to talk!"). An outsider would think that Sect Leaders hates his pups, but anyone from Yunmeng knows this is their love language. He growls and snaps at the baby all day, but try to take it away from him and he'll bite hands off. The kid spends the first six months of its life strapped to his chest.

I like the idea of pregnant JC because of the suffering xD He has no time for this. Absolutely no time. He wants the child, but he hates being pregnant. Not even because of morning sickness or any pains - actually, his pregnancies are quite easy, his skin get a better and his hair is marvelous. Bit the limitations are a bitch!

Can't train, can't drink wine, can't night-hunt, can't lift, and in the end months, can't even get out of the bathtub without help-_- He's done. The the last two months he spends in the lake as much as possible - at least there he can still move with a degree of ease and grace. He hates his pregnancy robes (so undignified) and hates how big he gets (but if an aunties in the teashop reach to pat his stomach, he will let them without a word), what a drag!

What he doesn't realise is that pregnancy looks good on him - his hormones react well and he's glowing, his temperament evens out and he sleeps more, which only aids the previous two. His sect bursts with pride at having such beautiful Leader. I subscribe to the idea that the Jiang disciples are more like a pack of Wei Wuxians, so they become ridiculously protective and wanting to please, every single one desperate to touch the belly T_T They keep bringing more and more exotic and rare foodstuffs, keep achieving more and more risky deeds to get his attention and earn the honour of patting the stomach,

"Sect Leader, please try this dish! It's sweet and sour, it should satisfy your cravings!"

"Sect Leader, I have defeated a yao during the night hunt!"

"Sect Leader, Lan Wangji has been spotted on the border of Yunmeng! I will go and break his hand for you!"

"Are you fucking crazy?!"

Many disciples taste Zidian (but also many get to touch the tummy), because he shouldn't be dealing with this!

And god forbid Wei Wuxian learning about it! Jiang Cheng's stomach will be hijacked!

...hmm, I like the idea of the father being absent during the pregnancy (for whatever reason) and the sect smoothly steping in to bridge the gap. They make sure he's never alone, that things are taken care of. They know he doesn't like to be smothered or pitied, so they're as respectful as they can be (which is not terribly much but it's the intention that counts), but they show their care all the time. He can push and growl, but there's always a hand ready to help him stand up or get off the sword, always someone with food on stand-by, etc.

In an a/b/o scenario, the alpha disciples will rotate to spend time with their omega Leader - sit by his bed at night, emiting calming pheromones and providing gentle touches. JC's first alpha disciple will scent him every morning, to keep the pregnancy developing correctly. The sect aunties will tidy up his nest and make sure that his throne is laid out with soft fabrics and support pillows. The future baby belongs to the Sect and they will all chip in to bring it in safely. (Idea that Yunmeng Jiang is the only sect to be happy with an omega leader, because they stick to their motto. If the omega isn't mated, they'll just have an alpha first disciple and the balance will be achieved, no stress).

My own favorite 5 fics I've written, I've been thinking about it a lot! It's a tough decision cause I don't tend to reread my own fics after I've posted them. It was fun to think about it deeply though.

Bent Not Broken (fandom: The Untamed)

Summary: In honor of June being scoliosis awareness month 5 times Lan Wangji struggled with his scoliosis and one time he didn’t have to

This one because it was so meaningful to me to write something centered on scoliosis and scoliosis surgery and the after-effects. Everything I wrote about is stuff I've also experienced. It was extremely cathartic to write. But also the reactions to it blew me away, most comments were from people saying that they felt represented in their own scoliosis experiences. I could not have expected nor hoped for such an amazing response.

2. Good Name (fandom: Guardian)

Summary: “Shen Wei,” the letter starts. “Hi, it’s me Zhao Yunlan. If you’re reading this, we’ve switched again. And yeah, switched, I’m sure you’ve figured out by now that when you take over my body, I take over yours. Sorry for drinking alcohol. I didn’t realize you were such a lightweight.” Kimi no Na wa / Your Name AU - no knowledge of the source material is necessary to understand the plot of this story

This is the second longest fic I've ever written and also the only multi-chapter fic that I've fully completed *before* posting. It was a huge test of patience and it paid off! The first fic I got beta'ed also. Being able to post a chapter a week consistently and the satisfaction of it being already finished was great. Also I just personally love the AU and look back on it fondly.

3. The Heart of the Matter (fandom: Guardian)

Summary: Dixingren differ from Haixingren in one very crucial way: their heart is on the opposite side of the body. Zhao Yunlan never thought he'd be so thankful to find out Shen Wei is Dixingren in the worst possible circumstance.

This one because it proved to me that being completely self-indulgent pays off. In terms of kudos, comments, and bookmarks it is my most popular Guardian fic, but I'm not focusing on the statistics here it is just the fact that I thought it was too self-indulgent when I wrote it but then the reaction being so positive made me look at it in a different light and now when I think about an idea being self-indulgent I think back on this fic and tell myself nah I can be as self-indulgent as I want, and that self-indulgent fics are a good thing.

4. love them all for me (fandom: The Untamed)

Summary: He is barely a teenager when he is brought to Koi Tower where he meets a gentle young woman mourning the deaths of her husband and adoptive brother. She shares soup and stories of love and loss. Or Jiang Yanli sees a struggling young Mo Xuanyu and asks, “is no one else going to adopt him?” and does not wait for an answer.

This one because it was a pivotal fic in developing my writing style. This one was hugely experimental for me. I was very deliberate in how I wrote it stylistically. It was also the first fic I ever did in the present-tense. And then I realized I like present-tense better than past tense for my own writing haha.

5. A Fox Cannot Hide Its Tail (fandom: Guardian)

Summary: Li Qian speaks, “You won’t—it sounds—” “Crazy?” Zhao Yunlan cuts in. He smiles and says, “Try me.” It truly must be something strange if they can accept that he would believe them about the sentient shadow but not about this. “The shadow was chased away by a fox,” Li Qian admits softly like she doesn’t want him to hear her say it. “A fox?” Zhao Yunlan asks, eyebrows raised.

Full on recency-bias here lol but it's my current WIP so I want to include it. I am happy with where it's going. And it's the first complete canon-rewrite AU I've attempted! It is also self-indulgent as heck but I've already established that is A-okay!
