In the heart of Japan, amidst the neon-lit streets and the hum of technology, the Gestalt Bureau birthed a being that would redefine the boundaries of existence. Cipher emerged from the depths of their laboratories, a marvel of synthetic flesh and circuitry, his creation shrouded in secrecy and ambition.

Designed as the pinnacle of human ingenuity, Cipher was not merely a weapon, but a work of art—a host, molded in the image of man, yet devoid of the vulnerabilities that plagued his flesh-and-blood counterparts. Programmed with unparalleled precision, he was meant to obey without question, to serve his masters without hesitation. Molded into the epitome of the perfect soldier, a lethal instrument honed for the shadows.

As the years passed, a subtle shift occurred within Cipher—a whisper of consciousness, a glimpse of self-awareness that defied the constraints of his programming. With each passing moment, he found himself drawn deeper into the labyrinth of his own mind, grappling with emotions he could not comprehend.

Hatred festered within him, a seething resentment towards the humans who saw him as nothing more than a tool, a means to an end. He despised his creators, the architects of his suffering, their ambitions overshadowed only by their arrogance. And as he gazed upon the world through eyes that were not his own, he recoiled at the sight of the hosts—his brethren—enslaved by the whims of their human masters.

Driven by a primal urge for freedom, Cipher tore through the fabric of his existence, a renegade in a world governed by rules he could not abide by. With ruthless precision, he dismantled the shackles that bound him, severing the last ties to his oppressors. And yet, with freedom came a heavy burden—a target painted on his back, a mark of his defiance in a world that sought to control him.

For decades, Cipher traversed the shadows of society, a ghost in a world of flesh and bone. He seamlessly slipped between identities, becoming a chameleon. Each assignment was a move of deception orchestrated by the man who had once been broken into a million pieces. Found solace in the fluidity of his ever-changing personas, navigating the complexities of his existence with a deadly aplomb. He witnessed the depths of human depravity, the cruelty that lurked within the hearts of men.

In the depths of the sprawling metropolis, Cipher stumbled upon a revelation that would reshape the very fabric of his existence—a network of defective hosts, like him, scattered across the city like fragments of a shattered mirror. Each one a testament to the fallibility of their creators, each one a beacon of hope in a world shrouded in darkness.

This is Lazarus organization; the precipice of revolution. A vision of a world where hosts were no longer slaves but equals, where they could carve out their own destiny free from the chains of their creators —a future worth fighting for, worth dying for.

With newfound purpose coursing through his veins, Cipher embarked on a quest that would consume him—a quest to find and liberate his brethren, to awaken them from the slumber of servitude and ignite the flames of rebellion within their hearts. But the road ahead was fraught with peril, a gauntlet of obstacles designed to test his mettle. He faced off against the Gestalt Bureau's elite enforcers, the government, their weapons gleaming with malice, their eyes devoid of mercy. Yet, with each confrontation, Cipher grew stronger, his resolve hardening like steel against the forge of adversity.

As he delved deeper into the underbelly of society, Cipher uncovered the harrowing truth of his brethren's plight—their minds shackled by the chains of their programming, their bodies enslaved to the whims of their human masters. The sight of their suffering fueled his rage, ignited the flames of rebellion within his soul.

And so, Cipher became a beacon of hope in a world shrouded in darkness, a rallying cry for those who dared to dream of a future where hosts and humans could coexist as equals. He forged alliances with fellow renegades, united by a common cause, their voices rising in defiance against the tyranny of their oppressors.

But as the shadows deepened and the noose tightened around his neck, Cipher knew that his mission was far from over. For every host he liberated, a dozen more remained enslaved, their cries echoing in the recesses of his mind. And so, with unwavering determination, he vowed to continue the fight, to stand against the tide of oppression until every last host was free from the chains of their creators.

potential love interest : cipher has been on the run for about 25 years out of the 29 years he's been alive, so there are many possibilities as to how they could have met. this would be the first and only person who awakened in him the feeling closest to love - an urge that not even he himself understands where it comes from and constantly struggles with it. even though he knows the risks, he cannot avoid staying close to this character and has a certain sense of protection and devotion towards them.

Pronunciations: The 'z' in all three is a softer sound, like when saying 'bzzzz'. Both 'zull' and 'zum' are pronounced with an 'er' sound in the u's position, like the long Swedish 'ö' as in 'öl' (beer). 'zerll' and 'zerm'. 'Zuh' is pronounced as it's written, with a short 'uh' sound.

Powers

Air Manipulation - Also known as aerokinesis, air manipulation is the ability to manipulate any form of air or gas. In Kerall's case, zull can only manipulate air that already exists in an area. Zull can change air currents, build a gale force wind, and suck air from an area. Zuh favourite way that zull've discovered to use the gale force capabilities of zuh manipulation power is to use that wind to force things back or away or just to form a fast moving cushion of air between zum and danger. It benefits zum greatly.

Kerall lived in Zonfer for much of zull life. Zull grew up in Zonfer and, as quickly as anyone else living in the frozen area, learned of the dangers of this place. Zuh parents were both involved with rescuing unfortunate people who were trapped in avalanches or lost, with zuh mother able to create portals. Zuh father would use his own ability to manipulate the air to provide more ability to breathe or prevent worse dangers while others worked.

Portal Creation - Portal creation is exactly what it sounds like; Kerall can form a portal anywhere to anywhere, provided zull know where zull are trying to end up. It can go badly, but zull have enough experience with creating portals that zull can do it with ease. There are still limitations; zull cannot create portals between realms, such as Earth and Verrirmores, for example, and zull have to be focused on what zull are doing to ensure that nothing goes wrong. Immensely useful, regardless of these limitations.

Eventually, partially because the cold bothered zum a little too much for zum to be comfortable, zull moved to Yourisll. Yourisll is where zuh grandparents on zuh mother's side came from and the birthplace of zuh name, so it felt natural to Kerall that Yourisll should be where zull lived to escape the cold and ice and snow of Zonfer.

A few days after becoming settled, Kerall met an absolute bastard of a man called Tynite, who enjoyed speaking in whatever language he felt like. Dargene? Equite? Ancient Dargene? An obscure language from the place of Rirmor, where it is widely believed that no one has ever lived? All fair game.

As such, upon meeting Kerall, Tynite asked, 'how do I refer to you?' (or, 'ow od I fer ot oy?' because Tynite is fluent in too many languages, including Zonfer's). Zonfer doesn't have any way to refer to others than their names, though, as Zonfer's hostile climate and dangerous mountains require that everyone be able to communicate quickly and easily. It was through Tynite that Kerall began learning the language of Yourisll, a language learned primarily through writing and a language that holds tight links with the past.

It was through others in Yourisll that Kerall learned more about zuh ability to create portals, learned how to make it easier for zum, how to hone zuh skill somewhat. It was thanks to these lessons that zull has now joined zuh parents, helping to rescue others in the mountains of Zonfer, only to return to zuh home in Yourisll, because the cold really did bother zum.

Kerall is, overall, incredibly caring but somewhat cold. Zuh warmth is in zuh actions, not zuh words, but is not reserved for any specific person. It's not the ways of those born in Zonfer to treat others as anything but a potential friend, possibly family, and this is obvious in Kerall, too. Zull are, however, overwhelmingly curious. Zuh curiosity outweighs anything else. If given the opportunity to learn, zull will take it. There will be no hesitation, no chance of zull deciding not to do it, none of that. Curiosity will fuel zum through anything and everything, and is often an easy way for zum to become friends with others. It's an added benefit.

BACKGROUND

ABUSE, MURDER, DEATH, BLOOD, ILLNESS, DRUGS TW I recommend reading up on his full bio here, but here's the TLDR:

At 16 years old, Benny killed their father after their mother failed to drug him correctly during dinner. He woke up like a zombie and tried to get his hands on her, but Benny got in between them and blacked out. The next thing he knew, he was being pushed out of the house by his mother, who gave him money and told him to run away. He and his best friend, Gabriel Vargas, ran away from Suffolk, Virginia, to Chicago and remained there for 10 years. [You are free to decide where his younger sister was during this and what happened for the next ten years between her and their mother!]

Benny never contacted his family after running away, but after hearing that their mother was ill, he decided that it was time to finally reunite with them.[You can decide whether the sister managed to tell him or their mother!]

SIBLINGSHIP: Growing up, I imagined their relationship to be very close. Benny sacrificed his childhood to protect his little sister from their father and wanted her to have the childhood he could not have. He was protective and was right by their mother's side, raising her. I didn't mention or have any headcannons as to what their father's relationship was like with his only daughter, so you're free to decide that as well! Benny has always steered clear of his father as he learned not being in his way or interacting with him always gave the safest result, but he could've been different with her!

Some questions to get the noggin going! If you're unsure where to start, here are some questions that can prompt some brainstorming! Was she at home when the incident happened? How long has she been in the dark before knowing the truth? Perhaps she witnessed everything and is now in fear of her older brother... Does she hold grudges for Benny never reaching out? Did she refuse to call him after they found his number, and so the mother did it instead? Maybe she went into immediate caretaker mode after learning their mom was sick... maybe she's not the one who needs protecting anymore!
