There was little appeal, in Melissa's view, to celebrate Valentine's Day as most Americans did. When one's affections were tied to an individual such as Hannibal, dining outside or procuring the standard gifts (champagne, fresh strawberries and chocolate) felt like a pale imitation of the true celebration he deserved on such occasion.

The doctor merited something better - up to his standards of excellence and taste, although one could hardly replicate the beautiful festivals held in Italy at such times. The weather was more pleasant and the lingering influence of the pagan rituals made it all a more organic festivity than a commercially-driven date.

So instead of traveling to Verona to partake in the charming traditions associated to the Shakespearean play set there, or even the farmer's market of the city of Terni where Saint Valentine lived, the woman planned something more intimate. In lieu of the snow, the warmth of the botanic gardens and their fragrant blooms; a simple but heartfelt letter, written by hand and to be delivered later; a generous supply of the traditional Perugina 'Baci' chocolate for the occasion with their beloved love quotes - and the entire manor for the two of them.

For the total of two days, Melissa had dismissed every single employee of hers - rewarding them for good service and also offering everyone a chance to be with their loved ones. Absolute privacy in a home that had housed certain horrors, but also a few discoveries - all so Hannibal could enjoy the perks of the music studio or the indoor pool without disturbances.

Before they departed the gardens, however, Melissa gently steered her companion to a small bridge over the carefully designed water streams. It was quiet at that time of the morning, and hardly anyone seemed to mind the couple - or paid any notice to the small padlock the countess retrieved from her purse. It had been prepared in advance, as the initials etched into metal suggested - and it was handed with the ornate key to the doctor.

"I offer you my heart today, amore mio," the brunette smiled at him, honeyed eyes sparkling under the sunlight filtered by the greenhouse's ceiling, "And on every other day. You are welcome to throw the key away if you desire."

Despite the ensemble of acquaintances that frequently accompanied Hannibal to operas and symphony concerts, he found great solace in the tranquility of solitary moments. Securing her mansion for a two-day interlude was no small accomplishment, and it signified far more to him than any material gift imaginable. While some might not conceive that such an act would elicit gratitude, Hannibal perceived it as a noble sacrifice made for a woman who had treated the mansion's staff as though they were her own family for many years.

In the unoccupied house, he reveled in the absence of the usual footsteps echoing through the hallowed corridors. It was a rare delight for him to explore rooms that had previously remained elusive, the sunlight streaming through the windows creating a tapestry of shimmering patterns on the polished floors. Outside, the winter snow blanketed the undulating landscape, contrasting beautifully with the inviting warmth of the indoor pool. He greatly preferred swimming laps in her lavish pool to the one at his exclusive club; it offered an intimacy and charm that he found unparalleled.

Should the winter chill infiltrate their bones, the lush warmth of the gardens provided a comforting reminder of spring's promise. As they strolled, her arm entwined with his, she suddenly halted, bringing him to a gentle pause. The gift he had received was unprecedented, a definite token of her deep understanding of him. Melissa knew him in a way that few others did, more intimately than those who presented lavish catalog items in hopes of winning his favor.

Hannibal cherished sentimental artifacts—those that were not only beautiful but also rare, each possessing a story of its own. As he cradled the intricately designed padlock in his palm, he caressed the etched initials, savoring the craftsmanship. The mechanism clicked satisfyingly into place as he turned the key, and he subsequently withdrew it, tucking it away in the breast pocket of his tailored suit. He then tenderly grasp her hand, which he brought to his lips, inhaling the familiar scent of the lotion she wore—a fragrance that he had personally gifted her just hours earlier. "Grazie, tesoro mio," he murmured softly against her skin, the words a gentle caress.

Securing the treasured object within the confines of his coat pocket, he led her toward the greenhouse shop. Together, they collected edible flowers, vibrant and exotic, cultivated within the warm humidity of the greenhouses, destined to enhance their evening repast. The bouquet nestled comfortably in the crook of his arm, while his other remained so she could once again wave hers around his. "I must admit," he remarked, a impish glimmer in his eye, "it has been a true pleasure to roam your abode without the usual presence of the staff. Let us relish the freedom we have this evening." With a lighthearted gesture, he jostled the bouquet.

Pronunciations: The 'z' in all three is a softer sound, like when saying 'bzzzz'. Both 'zull' and 'zum' are pronounced with an 'er' sound in the u's position, like the long Swedish 'ö' as in 'öl' (beer). 'zerll' and 'zerm'. 'Zuh' is pronounced as it's written, with a short 'uh' sound.

Powers

Air Manipulation - Also known as aerokinesis, air manipulation is the ability to manipulate any form of air or gas. In Kerall's case, zull can only manipulate air that already exists in an area. Zull can change air currents, build a gale force wind, and suck air from an area. Zuh favourite way that zull've discovered to use the gale force capabilities of zuh manipulation power is to use that wind to force things back or away or just to form a fast moving cushion of air between zum and danger. It benefits zum greatly.

Kerall lived in Zonfer for much of zull life. Zull grew up in Zonfer and, as quickly as anyone else living in the frozen area, learned of the dangers of this place. Zuh parents were both involved with rescuing unfortunate people who were trapped in avalanches or lost, with zuh mother able to create portals. Zuh father would use his own ability to manipulate the air to provide more ability to breathe or prevent worse dangers while others worked.

Portal Creation - Portal creation is exactly what it sounds like; Kerall can form a portal anywhere to anywhere, provided zull know where zull are trying to end up. It can go badly, but zull have enough experience with creating portals that zull can do it with ease. There are still limitations; zull cannot create portals between realms, such as Earth and Verrirmores, for example, and zull have to be focused on what zull are doing to ensure that nothing goes wrong. Immensely useful, regardless of these limitations.

Eventually, partially because the cold bothered zum a little too much for zum to be comfortable, zull moved to Yourisll. Yourisll is where zuh grandparents on zuh mother's side came from and the birthplace of zuh name, so it felt natural to Kerall that Yourisll should be where zull lived to escape the cold and ice and snow of Zonfer.

A few days after becoming settled, Kerall met an absolute bastard of a man called Tynite, who enjoyed speaking in whatever language he felt like. Dargene? Equite? Ancient Dargene? An obscure language from the place of Rirmor, where it is widely believed that no one has ever lived? All fair game.

As such, upon meeting Kerall, Tynite asked, 'how do I refer to you?' (or, 'ow od I fer ot oy?' because Tynite is fluent in too many languages, including Zonfer's). Zonfer doesn't have any way to refer to others than their names, though, as Zonfer's hostile climate and dangerous mountains require that everyone be able to communicate quickly and easily. It was through Tynite that Kerall began learning the language of Yourisll, a language learned primarily through writing and a language that holds tight links with the past.

It was through others in Yourisll that Kerall learned more about zuh ability to create portals, learned how to make it easier for zum, how to hone zuh skill somewhat. It was thanks to these lessons that zull has now joined zuh parents, helping to rescue others in the mountains of Zonfer, only to return to zuh home in Yourisll, because the cold really did bother zum.

Kerall is, overall, incredibly caring but somewhat cold. Zuh warmth is in zuh actions, not zuh words, but is not reserved for any specific person. It's not the ways of those born in Zonfer to treat others as anything but a potential friend, possibly family, and this is obvious in Kerall, too. Zull are, however, overwhelmingly curious. Zuh curiosity outweighs anything else. If given the opportunity to learn, zull will take it. There will be no hesitation, no chance of zull deciding not to do it, none of that. Curiosity will fuel zum through anything and everything, and is often an easy way for zum to become friends with others. It's an added benefit.

You deserve better babe. To be with someone for so long, propose and then break up only to jump into another relationship in a short time is very suspicious. Like this was a serious relationship he had with you but he's not showing it was or showing a decent interval. Trust me, it's like grieving. You're not jumping into a relationship with anyone else after leaving a serious relationship with no trauma or abuse involved, it's going through the healing process that it ended.

Honestly? I'm not shocked. Men do this ALL the time. They're so eager to move on and get in a relationship first, and then post all about it on social media (he never posted anything about us when we were together) as if to scream "see? look at me! I wasn't the problem!" as if a new relationship somehow just washes away who they are and what they've done.

They've clearly been together a little while, if my sources are correct on how cosy they seem. Was something happening while he and I were together? I mean, I'm not ruling it out. I'd like to think not, but at the same time, I just don't care. Whether he was cheating or not, it doesn't really change anything at this point.

If anything, I'm more amused than anything else, because he spent SO long trying to act like he was better than other guys only to then follow the exact same pattern as every asshole man ever.

hmmm i think the most recent movie i watched was literally either pitch perfect or mamma mia 😭 BUT also semi recently my friend and i wanted to watch a trash movie that is whack from start to finish but like vibes and that was i think called rough night (?) it's with like ilana glazer, scarjo, kate mckinnon etc and was hilarious

and hmmm holidays... i haven't thought about this before but i do have some ideas

i think. james really likes new years like just gut feeling but he loves any occasion for everyone he loves to come together and like new years is perfect for that no one has an excuse to not be there bc there's no work or school and it's just Vibes but they have to do it right (ie. just the group at someone's house not going out to some fancy expensive shit) ((side point, valentine's day would to some people scream james and like yeah he does valentine's day so well but. that's only with one person not all of his people and he wants all of his people to spread the love around))

sirius likes... birthdays. not his own but everyone else's. like he doesn't like the pressure of his own birthday but he will go so all out when it's anyone else's birthday and like it's because he grew up like that his birthday didn't really matter but he always made sure reg's birthday was good for him and that kinda stuck with him and he always made it fun

reg likes christmas best! to me his birthday is around christmas (part of why sirius always made sure his bday was special bc it would get overshadowed by christmas a lot) but he did like christmas and likes it even more outside of growing up and finding traditions and ways to make it fun and such

if they were american remus would like thanksgiving no i will not elaborate on that point it just feels right. but since they are not american, he like halloween the best but the amount of effort he puts in really depends and varies from year to year but he still likes it even if he looks like he just threw on like a big tshirt with an animal on it

peter also really likes halloween but will go all out every year and decorates like crazy the second stores start having halloween decorations out

marlene loveesssssss her own birthday she is going all out every year themes and everything

lily is also a christmas gal bc it reminds her of good memories of her childhood like her family had such nice christmases and their house was always warm so even if she doesn't always have that now with her family she has it with her friends and it's still warm

These were some of my favourite bits and I always love how Gale is on the same page with the fans on Brian -

Brian hid a lot in sex because he felt he was not free to have feelings. He said it was always the plan to have Brian and Justin together because it was a new relationship rather than Brian and Michael which was an old relationship.

Michael reminded Brian of the difficult part of his life so he was punishing him but at the same time loving him so much though not romantically. He evolved in getting to know Justin and he fell in love with Justin as a version of himself and though he acted like he didn’t care, he cared very much. He felt Brian would suffer a long lasting broken heart after Justin was gone. He also believed that Brian would eventually settle down.

He loved the prom dance but was worried about keeping up with Randy because he was fast. When asked about Brian’s rule of not eating fats or carbs after 7 he said Brian was a pathological liar.

When the subject of Justin’s injury came up, Gale surprised us by talking about his own head trauma from his accident and how it was similar to what Justin would have experienced. He said that he had no memory of anyone visiting him but he could hear them and later he dreamed about their visits. When asked if Brian ever told Justin about his visits in the hospital he felt certain that Brian would have “accidentally” let him know and that as the relationship developed that they would have discussed it at some point and Randy agreed.

A lot of these have been covered in fic so it's always nice to see the actors confirming our head canons. Gosh, yeah his accident was really serious and luckily he was okay he does seem to be very accident prone which kinda fits in with his personality.

Yes, I thought I was going insane when I kept thinking I'm sure there was a con scheduled in London around then but of course the pandemic hit and everything was cancelled but it was never mentioned again, so I thought I dreamt it lmao. Especially as Gale was supposed to be there alongside everyone which is so rare for him to leave his house! Damn you covid for ruining this for us.

I hope you feel better soon! I am also very tired and have no pets to share funny anecdotes about so I will just tell you some random nice things that happened here today. It was a beautiful day! ten degrees and sunny and everyone has cheered up a bit. My friend's 10yo came out as trans last week and tomorrow I'm going to buy her a coming out present. I went to see some old colleagues yesterday including my deeply-well-beloved mentor, and he was never very mentally well in the years I knew him best (a brilliant mind often turning in on itself) and a year into retirement he has become steady and quiet and has got himself two cats called Eustace and Caspian. It is a wonder to see him happy and well. Another colleague sent a policy working paper around our department today with the covering note " a document haunted throughout by the ghost of Iona" which made me laugh no end. (addendum from me: "thank you for acknowledging my terribly significant contributions, still not dead.") We had risotto for dinner! followed by Sainsbury's individual tiramisus. and now I am going to take a bath. take care of yourself, my lovely friend. <333
