Viola, I re-read the Drabble for the Yoongi soulmate fic and an absolutely idiotic, 100% half baked idea came to me so I came to pass it on. I know you’ll do with your fic as you please, as is your right and no pressure to even entertain it, but I thought it might be a funny turn in a crack fic direction, idk

So the premise is obvious, they’re roommates and the soulmate thing is that they have to see each other naked. Now, what if Yoongi accidentally sees OC naked? Like, let’s say she’s fresh outta shower and her towel slips in the hallway or he bursts into her room to scold her for eating his last tangerine and she’s changing? That’s all well and good, because now HE knows they’re soulmates, but he can’t exactly go “hey so funny thing I saw your tatas and started tingling, we must be something right and that thing is soulmates, uninstall tinder from your phone right now, we’re soulmates”. Instead, he starts this elaborate plan of shedding his clothes in front of her over time. Like, one week he ‘forgets’ to put on a tshirt while making coffee. Another week, he tries to subtly lose his towel after showering, but she just happens to look the other way. Eventually he grows frustrated and goes to someone for advice - and the advice he’s given is ‘do the naked man thing from how I met your mother’. He laughs it off at first, but as time passes he realizes this might be the only way to deal with this circus and waits, naked and freezing his ass off, on the living room couch waiting for oc to return from a grocery run.

Oh my GOSH so OK. THIS WAS SO CLOSE TO ORIGINAL PLOT. Like HOW did you get in my head.

Now. To be clear. It is REALLY not what happens at all in the story now, but THIS was basically along the lines of my first idea and that is WILD.

I actually think I’m gonna do it. Not with Yoongi, but I have other stories planned in this universe and I’m thinking maybe Seokjin?

got my grades back for my courses last semester and most of it was to be expected, mostly A's, maybe an A-, etc. but i honestly can't get over the fact that my independent study (the buddy cole documentary) was for some reason given a B. like sure getting a B isn't bad per se, I usually get at least one B every semester and i honestly don't really care about what my exact gpa is as long as i can graduate, but come on. this school put me through months of psychological torment over this project and didn't even have the nerve to give me a B+??? i'm still coping with the self-doubt they forced on me and this bullshit is not helping!!

Deeply and truly thank you. Saved me a real pain. It was People Don't Do That. Gonna reread it ASAP. I don't remember if I read the uucest one, but I powered thru a lot of fics while I was sick in Jan, and I don't remember like 90% of those two weeks. (Like, as I'm going thru the tag I'm reading now, I'll see something unclicked and go to read it, finish the fic like OMG SO GOOD, and then scroll a little more and I see my name at the top of the kudos list and it's like, wait, when tf did I read this? It was when I was sick.)

Ughhhh. I ADORE the dynamic of whichever younger Strider being the instigator, and it fits Alphacest so deliciously. (I don't even know what to say here without being so fucking overtly horny for Alpha Dave in general but that's not new lmao.)

But seriously, the scene on the roof where Dirk took Dave's underwear, like. I died. There's no other way to put it. It fucking killed me. I'm going to remember that forever, it was so good.

What are your thoughts on the new Spiderverse film?

Absolutely loved it! I think I might've enjoyed the first one just a tad more (I'm a sucker for an origin story), but the absolute artistry on display, the powerful emotional beats, top notch voice acting, and just...oozing creativity in every damn frame. Amazing movie, easily my favorite in recent memory (not that I've watched many, but still).

If I have any real issues with it, without getting into spoilers...

Pretty sure it's just me getting older and my vision struggling a bit but there were certain scenes I had a lot of trouble parsing (in the chase from the trailer, you know the one).

There's a big character choice that I would've definitely handled a bit differently because it borders on disbelief that X and Y characters would've allowed things to happen without some heavy pushback. Not quite OOC behavior, but some logical leaps were made that could've been tweaked.

In that same vein, I would've kept "this rather specific thing always happens (and must always happen) to Spider-people" a bit more vague and not as well-defined. From experience, the Multiverse doesn't lend itself super well to strict rules - it rather prefers guidelines.

That being said, hot damn, these movies (this series!) are almost...laser-targeted towards me. Not to imply the Kverse is like, comparable to these movies (I'm very proud of what I write, but not nearly that arrogant lol), but I think you can see the DNA of what I'm going for in there, what I really love about having endless universes to play with, both in terms of sheer fanservice and more serious storytelling. I can't believe how fortunate I am to see that sort of dream realized in such spectacular fashion! Can't wait for part 3!

Game 42: Dragon Quest Heroes II As much as I am a fan of warrior games and Dragon Quest, they have yet to make the games as good as the Hyrule Warrior games have been. Maybe it has something to do with the size of the locations, the JRPG nature of the franchise, or simply not rendering enough enemies, but the series just doesn't get close enough to the explosive action I felt when it comes to any of the other warrior games. Still compared to the first Dragon Quest Heroes, DQHII actually improvements itself immensely, and what was once an utter drag, is now just a novelty that feels like it's miss something. Like the first Dragon Quest Heroes was so stiff and slow paced that it never felt like you were given the time of day to actually get into any of the action. There was no chance to explore or make itself feel like a classic JRPG the way a Dragon Quest game ought to be. Heroes II fixes this oversight by giving the players a proper overworld to play around in and explore. While there isn't always a bundle of enemies to smack around, there is at least plenty of environments, treasures, and block passages to make it really feel like a traditional JRPG overworld. It honestly feels like I'm exploring the first map of Dragon Quest again, and every time I see an enemy it's like it draws near to me despite it remain quite stationary. There is just something to say about a big overworld, especially one as filled as Heroes II that gets any player really excited to explore it. Sadly though, the overworld of Heroes II isn't the main focus of the game, and that in lies the problem with it. It's not so much that the story is bad or the characters feel off, it's more so just how the maps used during story segments are rather hit or miss. Like there is plenty of dungeon type maps in this game, but there are also plenty of maps that feel like an empty arena in which you wait to be filled. Once more, the balancing of these types of maps are entirely lopsided with the early story maps having hardly any creatures, and the later game areas have plenty of enemies to deal with. This makes for a lot of the beginning of Heroes to be not only slower to get into, but boring too. The game really only picks up right after your fight with Terry, and that's roughly 15 hours in. Not to entirely slander Heroes II though, as I will say they did an excellent job of actually making proper boss characters, and challenge throughout the game. Once more, you can also select any current heroes you have in your party, and virtually play the whole game has just the characters you like. Even if you never touch the rest of the cast they still level along with you, albeit slowly. If you are looking for a warriors like Dragon Quest game in which you beat up a bunch of monsters, Heroes II is certainly the better showcase of the two games we currently have. On top of that, the first Heroes game doesn't need to be played through at all, and any extra fun to be had with the characters that do show up are at least characterized well enough that you don't have to know their original game counter parts to understand them. I don't think there is enough here to really engage anyone new to the franchise, and the lack of a proper couch / online co-op only hinders any possible friends/ lovers from exposing them either. That being said, there are better warrior games out there, and the only true enjoyment I can see this game getting is from fans of the series.

but they do actually pay people

it's a pittance or nothing for most though. only the most marketed and popular works get any money and the pricing is ridiculous

and the writing is usually not great

even the stuff that's been translated from chinese is pretty hit or miss. the translators do get paid, but not much i think

it's serialized fiction though so that's probably why they're going after fanfic authors.

but if you want to make money off of serial fiction these days, it's possible, but webnovel really isn't the best platform imo, especially if you're a native English speaker and writing more typical western-world stories (i can't explain it exactly but have a look at the stories on webnovel and you'll see they're pretty different from typical western stories, tho there's common tropes like billionaire romances or male zero to hero power fantasies)

I'd suggest looking at radish, yonder, tapas, kindle vella, even wattpad before going to webnovel for publishing your original serial fiction online

I got this comment on a story from my Other AO3 Account this morning.

(Info redacted because I prefer keeping these accounts separate but no one follows me on the side blog I have for that account.)

The story was posted almost a year ago and is relatively “popular” by my average statistics even though it has tropes and themes that are big turnoffs for a lot of people (hence separate accounts). This popularity is undoubtedly because it’s a Marvel Loki story and that fandom is massive.

So there is obviously an algorithm or a bot scrubbing ao3 statistics and leaving this comment on fics that meet a certain metric with the main character of the fic inserted into the comment.

I had a little time to kill this morning so I decided to investigate further. And y’all this is so predatory. Come on this journey with me. It made me mad. It may make you mad.

First, if you go to Webnovel’s website, you HAVE to choose between male lead or female lead stories before you can go any further. WTF?

And that’s weird, but this gets so much worse. This is basically a pay-to-read site that has different subscription models. Which… okay BUT! The authors don’t get paid! Look at that comment again. They’re promising a supportive and nurturing community, but zero monetary compensation. It’s basically, “post your stuff here so we can get paid and you can get… nice vibes?” I mean look at this Orwellian writing:

Using the phrase “pay-to-read model” in the same sentence as “qualitative changes in lifestyles for authors” deliberately makes you think that you can get paid and maybe even make a living on this website. But that’s not actually what it says and authors will not receive one red cent.

Oh but wait, the worst is still to come. In case this breaks containment (which I kind of hope it does) this is where I mention that I’m a lawyer in the US.

I don’t do intellectual property or copyright law but I do read and write contracts for a living. So I went to look at their terms of service. It was fun!

Highlights the first, in which Webnovel gets a license to do basically whatever they want with content you post on their site. This is how they get to be paid for people reading authors’ writing without paying them anything.

Highlights the second, in which Webnovel takes no responsibility for illegally profiting off of fan fic. This all says that the writer is 100% responsible for everything the writer posts (even though only Webnovel is making money from it).

Highlights the third which say that by posting, the author is representing that they have the legal right to use and to let Webnovel use the content according to these terms. So if a writer posts fan fiction and Webnovel makes money from people reading the fan fiction, and the House of the Mouse catches wise, these sections say that that’s ALL on the writer.

So that’s a little skeevy to start off with but the thing that is seriously shitty and made me make this post was that these assholes are coming to ao3. They are actively recruiting people in comments on their fan fiction. And they are saying they are big fans of the character you’re writing about and that they share your interests.

They are recruiting fan fiction writers and giving every impression that you can make money from posting fan fiction on their site and hiding the fact that you absolutely cannot but they can make money off of you while you try, deep in their terms of service which no one but a lawyer who writes fan fic and has some time to kill will read.

I see posts on here regularly from people who don’t understand how this stuff works, don’t understand that they (and others) can not legally make a financial profit from fan fiction. And there are tons of people who will not take the time to dig into the details.

Don’t deal with these bastards. Fuck Webnovel.

i had to think about it for a second but ouuuggghhhh i have so many favourite mangas............. Uzumaki is the first one that comes to mind. can't go wrong with Junji Ito's works. i also love the Splatoon manga so so much. i have a lot of physical copies of it!! i should read it again,,,,,,

there's also a kind of obscure (to me at least. i don't see a lot of people talk about it and most people i bring it up to don't know about it) manga i really like called Pumpkin Night :D! it's also a horror manga but wayyyy more gory than Junji Ito's stuff. it's really good. i like to read it every halloween
