Alrighty, meet my girl Pennsylvania !!!

Her human name is Rebecca Ida Franklin, and she's physically 23. She's the 13th oldest state, and celebrates her birthday on December 12th.

Rebecca has an interesting personality. She's hardworking, intelligent, calm, industrious, observant, patient, down-to-earth, level headed, loyal and slightly curt at times, though usually unintentionally. She's typically no-nonsense and serious when it comes down to it, and she's a very hard worker. She's good about getting stuff done and does dislike laziness, but she's not one to berate others for it. Some more fun facts about her:

She's 5'10 or 178 cm in height. She's one of the tallest female states, only being shorter than Alaska and California.

She has roughly type 1C hair

She's Delaware's little sister, though ironically she's a full six inches taller than him.

Outside of the Indigenous languages in her state, she speaks English, Spanish, Dutch, German, Hebrew and Pennsylvania Dutch fluently. She speaks Swedish quite well, and speaks some Cantonese, Mandarin, French and Yiddish.

She's religiously Jewish.

She played the biggest role in the American Industrial Revolution, providing a lot in the way of steel, iron ore and textiles. As such, she has a deep love and skill for mechanics, engineering, construction, technology and anything of the sort. She can repair cars, remodel homes, fix broken wiring, design vehicles and many other things. It's a skill she's kept to this day.

She loves dogs, and exclusively owns Great Danes and German Shepherds.

She will actively complain about literally any type of weather. Outside of the weather, however, she hates complaining and will avoid doing so.

She's overall the 13th oldest state, but among the 13 colonies, she's the 10th oldest. She was physically 15 during the American Revolution, and stole two houses from England during it.

She's generally pretty respectful and keeps to herself. She always minds her own business, and dislikes getting wrapped up in other peoples drama or problems; however, she's always willing to lend a hand with anything mechanical.

She's the go-to car mechanic for many of the states, and Alfred himself.

She gets along well with Germany, Netherlands and Sweden, but she will argue with England pretty much on sight. She's friends with a few of the other states, such as Virginia and Rhode Island.

She argues a lot with New Jersey, though he starts most of it.

She doesn't necessarily dislike high-tech things, and will use super high-tech things if they make her life easier. However, she is generally wary of new technology and prefers to use her old, tried and true methods.

She does use technology and such quite often, but she does like doing things without technology when she can.

Like many of the other 13 colony states, she remains quite close to Alfred. She actually hosted his first official birthday party, and continues to often host his birthday parties.

She's one of the physically stronger states, thanks to her hobby of working with heavy machinery.

She's surprisingly very into snacking and junk food.

Her accent actually tends to switch depending on where she is. If she's staying in Philadelphia she tends to take on a Philadelphian accent, but outside of the city her accent leans towards Appalachian.

She had long hair up until the Industrial Revolution, when she cut it short to avoid any accidents.

She has at least one scar- a burn mark on her shoulder from the burning of Pennsylvania Hall.

Her likes include: Mechanics, hunting, hershey's chocolate, dogs, beer, cheesesteaks, chocolate, Wawa, Sheetz, tastykakes, ham, scrapple, molasses, shoofly pie, chicken pot pie, being outdoors, fixing things, cars, the outdoors, german food, snacks, swimming, reading, libraries, movie theaters, ferris wheels, tinkering, machinery, inventing

Her dislikes include: The weather, humidity, England, drama

Aph Pennsylvania (Broderick aka Brody) is a built firefighter

Like one of those thick ass first responders

Goes viral for responding to a call and standing there at 6'4, yanking the hose like it weighs nothing

Aph NY (Victoria aka Vic) was probably the one recording

Aph New Jersey (Giovanni aka Gio) as an EMT, CPR certified and making all the hunnies faint

Brody is similar to Ludwig in that he just Puts Up With the other two

Though Vic and Gio are so much more chaotic than Feli and Kiku

They say the most out of pocket shit and Brody just -_-

Gio has such a small state that whenever Vic is by NYC or Brody is by Philadelphia he's hopping in his car to come meet them

I more or less majored in Pennsylvania history in college, and even wrote my senior thesis on union culture in Pa, so my perspective is a bit skewed toward the labor aspect of Pa history, but what I associate most with Pa is hard industrial work, anti-authority and anti-rich worker cultures, and a sort of disillusioned and pessimistic post-industrial culture that came about with the end of industrialism and the emergence of the rust belt. So I guess Id imagine Pa to be a hard working but crass tomboy kinda character, with a pretty cynical or maybe sarcastic way of approaching things. Oh, and Punxsutawney Phil, love that groundhog.

I was drawing something cursed about the Lumberjack War but unfortunately my computer decided that sounding like a geiger counter wasn't enough, it had to act irradiated as well. So instead have some pre-Revolutionary War art I made in the middle of the night while reading my old APUSH notes and having an existential crisis.

Anyway friendly reminder that another very important day is coming up this month and I know it's fun to hate on the French but sometimes you gotta take a step back and wonder if maybe they were on to something

omg yay ! i actually love my iteration of pennsylvania

her human name is rebecca franklin ! after rebecca lukens, known as 'america's first female ceo of an industrial company', and ofc ben franklin

pennsylvania is hardworking, intelligent, down to earth, patient, loya, calm, level headed and tolerant, but also slightly (unintentionally) curt. she's the kinda quiet, slightly stoic and hardworking type who prefers tinkering and working to being around a lot of people, essentially. she played a huge part in the industrial revolution, producing a lot of steel, iron ore and textiles- as a result, she's very skilled with machinery and engineering and loves it. she'll own cars just to tinker and improve them, she'll remodel parts of her house on occasion and will happily answer any other state's call to help with some mechanical.

she also will take any chance to complain about the weather. outside of the weather, though, she rarely complains about anything. she's delaware's little sister and gets along well with him. she also gets along well with germany and the netherlands, but will fight england on sight. she argues with new jersey a lot as well.

appearance wise, i have actually drawn her, but i'll describe her first. she stands at 5'10 or 178 cm, ironically towering over her big brother. she keeps her hair short since she works with machinery a lot and doesn't want anything happening. she's one of the physically stronger states thanks to all the physical labor she's done, and it reflects in her toned, semi-muscular body. she had at least one scar- a burn scar on one shoulder from the burning of Pennsylvania Hall. (she probably has a few small ones from machinery, but i haven't put much thought to it yet)

James/ Pennsylvania

Just a quicker disclaimer thing like I have an au with a bunch to states and Alfred in my au is rather different from canon Alfred. ANYWAYS:

This is a sketch practice from October and I was trying out some new brushes + incorporating some Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur motifs. I love American folk artstyles.

James/ Pennsylvania is more influence by Eastern PA. He’s of Palatinate & African-American descent. In his early years, he was raised as a Quaker and while he hasn’t been a Quaker for a number of years, he still deeply internalizes their values. He’s slow to anger and judgement. He can be described as a sweet simple farmer.

He’s been more or less dating Elise/ New Jersey since the founding of the US. While their personalities are VERY DIFFERENT (Elise being confrontational , judgy and very aggressive), they share similar values in regards to religious freedom and ethnic and religious plurality. Also lol nice to have a girlfriend with access to ocean front property.

Alfred/ USA wasn’t James biggest fan. Alfred was raised a Puritan, and even after the Puritans disintegrated like Massachusetts colonists were not fans of Quakers and Alfred is from Mass.- they weren’t big fan of Quakers. Also generally the Quakers weren’t particularly well-liked in early US history by anyone they were seen as too radical (for y’know that like actively being as discriminatory as the rest). And James wasn’t particularly fond of Alfred either. But after getting to really know James during the Revolution, having fought side by side, they became friends. Actually, I see Alfred being a Masshole at heart, but he is slowly influenced by his states and adopting personality traits and values and ideas from them over time

Finally the last person is my friend melondramatics’s oc, Dorothea/ palatinate. They’re friends cause of Dorothea’s massive influence on Pennsylvania Dutch culture.
