so... very early on in canon, i can't find the manga panel, but in the anime sub, italy says "i've always been ruled by another country, so i've always dreamed of having a friend."

then in the hetalia collezione that came out a few years ago...

italy is stated to view germany as his first friend.

so just. first of all. holy shit. this guy has been around at least 1500 years and GERMANY. WHO HE MET IN THE 1900S, IS THE FIRST PERSON HE HIMSELF CONSIDERS TO BE HIS FIRST FRIEND? the first person who doesn't treat him like an object to claim ownership over (how i'm interpreting things, anyway). can we talk about this. can we talk about how lonely he must have been all those years. can we talk about the fact that as many people as he knew, he never considered any of them to be a friend to him? can we talk about the fact that maybe he's so friendly because he was so lonely for so long...

he can manage hand holding, but when his lover holds his arm and slightly leans their head onto his shoulder he might get a little embarrassed. especially if the two of them are in public. he keeps his eyes to the ground, trying to ignore how his blush is making his ears warm.

he got a little shy the first time he asked his partner if he could be the little spoon for a change

gets a little shy (& completely turned on) when his partner talks dirty to him in russian (assuming they're fluent or learning the language for him <3)

gets really shy whenever his partner compliments him on his gains in the gym or just on his physique in general (but especially if they mention his chest)

if his partner ever called him 'soft' , 'cuddly' or told him they remind them of a 'polar bear' russia definitely starts feeling warm and just the tiniest bit embarrassed 🫣

Headcanon:

Would nations take notes or not during class?

Germany: Yes. Neat and precise notes organized by topic to make it easier to study.

Italy: No. If you asked for his notes, he’d show you a series of pretty and artist-like drawings of Germany.

Japan: Yes, but only until he notices Italy (who I’ve now decided will be his desk mate) drawing Germany. He gets inspired and starts drawing GerIta and passing his drawings to Hungary.

America: Yes, but it’s just a bunch of notes scribbled around his book, probably surrounded by doodles of himself with a hero cape.

England: Yes, but he only jots down what he finds important, the rest of the time he draws various magical creatures on a sketchbook.

France: No. He’d much rather write stuff on paper planes and send them to Spain and Prussia (who I suppose are desk mates).

Prussia: Yes, surprisingly. Like England, he only writes the important part ‘cause he’s busy writing stuff on France’s paper planes and sending them back.

Spain: No. He’s busy making paper planes and sending them to France, but his paper planes are actually empty and he only makes them to kill time. This often upsets the other two.

Romano: Yes. He’s actually very good at taking notes. If you read them, though, you would find parts where he summarized the point with something like “and then the king fucked up and lost a lot of the land”.

Hungary: No. She waits for Japan to pass her his drawings and then starts writing headcanons behind them.

These are all those which I could clearly see in my head. Sorry if I didn’t put all of the allies.

To make up for it, here’s my idea of how the classroom could look like. (Again, this is not everyone, sorry).

— it started when you picked your kid up from baseball practice some random summer day. you took off your shades and tucked them into your shirt as your son ran up to you, rambling on about hitting a home run during a scrimmage game. of course, you were delighted, hugging him and ruffling his hair. you smiled and laughed, picking him up into your arms. he was still young enough for you to spin him around, so that’s exactly what you did. you had no clue that his coach was watching you, admiring every bit of your body that was visible. alfred couldn’t help but bite his lip as he noticed the way your jeans hugged your ass. it was an innocent enough start. for a while, thats all he did — he watched. he admired.

— he realized one day after jerking off to the mere thought of you that he has to have you for himself. in order to do that though, he’d have to win over your son... something that, admittedly, wasn't too hard to do seeing as though the kid already had taken a liking to him. jones learned later on that your son’s father was completely out of the picture. it was probably because of this that your son ended up liking alfred so much. he was basically a father to him. he couldn’t say that his love for you had no influence over his kindness to your son.... still, he had a genuine fondness for him. it shows in the little ways, like when he helps with your kid’s homework without you asking.

— occasionally he sees you out at restaurants or grocery shopping and he’ll come over and say hi. alfred’s always smart about these interactions, just so that you don’t get thrown off. he makes sure to say hey to your son first, ruffling his hair and calling him ‘champ’ before saying hi to you. he’ll go in for a hug, enjoying the smell of you. the hug is short but it brings him more happiness than you could ever realize. it’s a tried and true formula, a script that jones follows religiously.

— once baseball season’s over and he realizes that he won’t be seeing you much anymore, alfred suddenly starts going around the neighborhood doing yard work for cash. he’ll tend to every flowerbed in the world if it means that he gets a glimpse or two more of you. besides, extra cash never hurt anybody.

— more often then not will work on your yard shirtless. you’ll make him lemonade like the kind neighbor you are and occasionally when it’s extra hot you force him to take a break. you take him by the arm and drag him inside, going on about how he’ll have a stroke if he continues slaving out in the heat. there’s a sort of routine when it comes to him being in your house. you force him inside, sit him down, eventually leave him alone and while you’re gone, he snoops around your house. he doesn’t feel too bad about it. he’ll be living with you soon anyways, right?

— he honestly just loves doing things for you. jones doesn’t mind building things like play sets or tables. he definitely doesn’t mind lifting things, as you always personally give him a hug when he’s done. his ears always burn red at the slightest bit of praise and thanks. it’s like he’s waited his whole life to hear those words from you.

— he thinks you’re oh so sexy. he can’t place his finger on why, but when he sees you he can’t help but blush. he also loves how you act with your kid. you’re patient with your son but you’re not a pushover. the way you coddle and occasionally spoil him — ivan’s almost jealous of the boy. speaking of, your son is quite cute. he’s got the sweetest smile with dimples and cheeks that braginsky desperately wants to pinch at. oh, what he wouldn’t give to be apart of your little family.

— the russian eventually picks up a job at a local grocery store just so he can help you reach up and get things. he knows you enjoy shopping there and he also knows from you complaining that you have a hard time grabbing certain things. ivan doesn’t hesitate to press himself against you as he helps you from behind. then he’ll innocently hand you whatever you were looking for, as if his pelvis wasn’t right against your ass two seconds ago.

— he’s been to the beach with you and your kid, mostly to protect you. braginsky always uses the same excuse — that he couldn’t let you go out alone because someone might bother you. it’s partially true, but he’s also there to make sure that no one hits on you. he loves seeing your body and occasionally his mind wanders and he’ll briefly wonder what you’d look if you were pregnant again. so stunning, he’s sure. he’d take care of you, rubbing your feet and treating you like the angel you are.. his queen..

— he zones out so much that he almost misses you asking him to rub sunscreen on your back while you put some on your kid. the three of you sit in a sort of line, your kid in your lap and you sitting in front of ivan. it’s hard for him to focus during moments like these.

— he wants to give you another kid, honestly, one personally given to you by him.

I have a headcannon that America was actually native and when the colonizers stole him, they dyed his hair and through so many white people coming to his lands, he was forcibly turned white. This is why in my AU he’s (America) tanner than in the cannon art and has black hair (there is still a bit of blond). And also Native America represented the land not the people and the tribes were personified and were the big siblings to him.

I’m totally okay with native America Hetalia ocs as long as you do your research and keep away from the stereotypes in this case— yeah that’s what hetalia is about, satire stereotypes, but native are still harmed by stereotypes today so I’d steer clear of them in this case.

Personally I don’t think there is one representative for the whole of Native America or Canada (or Mexico as the whole of the Americas), but I do think there’d be multiple. Because the Americas was a land of diverse tribes and cultures. Not just one massive country or empire or what have you. They were their people before the colonizers came and ripped their lives apart.

The whole narrative of a mama Native America is so weird to me because first of all, talking in canon here, why would she even take care of this little white boy that looks like those bitch ass colonizers coming and wrecking her home and her people? 😂 IM SORRY LMAO BUT IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE TO ME

Body head-canon for APH America

I don’t know why but I really can’t see Alfred with very defined/prominent abs or muscles. Like I get why you would see that but me personally I think he would have more of a softer body type. Somewhat toned arms and a chubby more rounded-ish stomach.

It’s so funny to me seeing different people’s interpretations of Alfred as like a master of masks but when I actually write him, it’s a portrayal of what I want real life USA to be. Someone who is kind and smart and fun and stands up for all of his people and who cares so SO much to the point it hurts. He’s a reflection of a country I would be proud to be a citizen of.

If my America ever seems like “too simple”, this is why. I think he’s just some guy who has a not-so-great past and has to deal with that eating away at his core.

I was thinking about the nations' healing abilities and ik they've definitely lost a limb or two in their lifetimes.

there's three types of injury that can befall a nation:

an attack on the actual landmass/people = long lasting injuries, wounds eventually heal but will take a long time, and can manifest as a sickness sometimes

an attack on the personification's physical body by another personification = heals relatively quick, but has long lasting effects, and permanent scars, self inflicted wounds also belong to this category

an attack on the personification's physical body by regular humans = short term injuries, no scars, no lasting effects

resurrection is a normal occurrence too, as long as a nation is a nation, they'll be fine.

dismembered country body parts tend to decompose faster than normal, so it's best to bury it or burn it to keep diseases at bay.

the acceleration of decomposition is probably because of the nations' special property that keeps living things that's in close proximity to them most of the time semi immortal, so when a limb disconnects from the body, it essentially makes up for the time it wasn't aging.
