I'm genuinely considering selling my current phone and getting a flip-phone.
I already listen to music on an mp3 player and I can access all of the important social medias (aka Tumblr and YouTube for entertainment that doesn't fry my brain, and Snap and Insta to talk to my friends and family) on my laptop. I can use my watch as an alarm, a timer and a watchclock. I can use an actual calculator instead of my phone's calculator. I can write things down in a notebook instead of my notes app. I can take photos and videos on my digital camera.
I don't need my phone except for making calls and sending messages. The only other stuff on it is social media, ai apps, and unnecessary games that are all rotting my brain and attention span. I don't need it, it's only dragging me down.
The next step is a flip-phone.

If you are doom scrolling, do me a little favor. Take a big deep breathe. Take two more. Look up and at your surroundings. Pay attention to the light, the objects, the sounds. You are here in this moment. The infinite world accessible through your phone is simply too much for your mind to handle all the time. You deserve peace of mind and soul. Bring yourself back to the present, and set your phone down.

and I know for a fact that every deep conversation, every song, every book, every walk in nature, every ten second reflection while the coffee brews, every cry session, every laugh, every notes app rant, and every indulgence is revealing the next layer of yourself that you haven't met yet. and sometimes that is scary, other times beautiful — yet very necessary so that your soul and mind and belief is challenged and it rebirths itself with much more clear sense of what you are.
it terrifies me how doom scrolling is going to delay this process in most of us.

#Honestly I’m only bothered bc I feel partially responsible (WTF EGOMANIAC OVER HERE)#I know I can’t control other people’s spending habits and my own habits are. Less than ideal !!#But when I wanted to spread my love for Wreck it Ralph I didn’t want people to get that takeaway 😔#IMPORTANT NOTE ‼️It’s okay to express your love for something through buying official things !!! That DOESN’T make you a “bad person” !!!#Still ! I think we have to let ourselves feel bothered by things and we need to be more critical of exploitative companies#Of course I chose to watch inside out 2 with my mom in theaters so I’m not immune lmao. Also using amazon / Etsy … just as a whole#But if you need help finding Disney movies without supporting them please just ask me!! PLEASE don’t use Disney+ if you can avoid it#I know we are all capable of finding our fulfillment from better places. But sometimes it’s hard#Capitalism sucks and yet that’s how we are endlessly pressured to live :(#We’re all at different points in our lives. Sometimes self care involves consumerism#Be hopeful that it someday won’t have to#Txt#again I’m sorry if this comes off as horribly egotistical to even consider being single-handedly responsible for#Social media is bad …. numbers bad…. Distorts reality and your perception of yourself…..#Or as me trying to guilt trip people in any way. Genuinely do what makes you happy but WE CAN BE HAPPIER & HEALTHIER I KNOW WE CAN#Wreck it ralph#Rant#Also sorry I have huge beef with streaming services I don’t mean to enforce that on other people but also. Digital Detox and Self-prioritization
Tumblr media
You`re endlessly doom-scrolling on your phone. Your thumb glides from Facebook to Twitter to Tik Tok then to Instagram and back to Facebook again, all within an hour. You scroll until you're consumed with feelings of anxiety, envy, and fleeting bursts of joy. You scroll until you`re overpowered by the desire to be someone else, doing something else and YOU CAN BE! This desire is easily achievable when you put your phone down, take a break from social media, and start living in the real world! I should know, I was just like you once.
I was the girl with a daily screen-time of over ten hours. My life was sedentary, and I was always plagued by envy and bitterness towards the people on social media who seemed to have their life together and were out being exciting people who did exciting things.
I remember one evening I was carrying out my normal routine of doom-scrolling when I was bushwhacked by a migraine so crippling that it drew a family member`s attention. After relaying my ache to them, they humorously suggested it was probably because of my phone.
This was my epiphany. Their joke was right- I was spending too much time on my phone and while trying to ignore my pounding head, I recalled all the hours I spent bent over my phone, bleary-eyed and envious of the life of content creators and micro-influencers.
I recalled watching gym content and admiring these creators' progress while not having the faintest idea of the last time I worked out.
I used to dedicate my time to passionately responding to comments in defense of celebs who did not know of my existence. I did not once dedicate this same level of commitment and dedication to my passions.
I posted pictures of myself and religiously compared the likes, views, and comments I garnered to those of my mutuals. I tried to maintain a curated online image that was disingenuous to who I was- heck, I barely knew who I was without the influence of social media.
This enlightenment (and my migraine lol) shook me to my core. I had to do something fast. I deleted my Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok. Since going offline, I`ve had a multitude of free time which I`ve dedicated to self-prioritization and improvement.
I`ve since fallen into the habit of :
Creating to-do lists so that my days are productive.
Picking up new hobbies (blogging via Tumblr, painting, and writing)
Reconnecting with old hobbies (Reading; so far, I`ve read two books from @kelseytheballerina ‘Digital Minimalism’ reading list).
Dedicating time and energy towards being more organized and efficient (completing tasks without the temptation to check my phone or the distraction of incoming notifications that require me to update, share, or respond).
Trying new recipes and cooking more
Gardening (I am currently growing Spinach)
Consistently exercising (working out between 30 minutes to 1 hour)
Learning a foreign language (Eu falo portugues!)
Deciding to engage in Bible Study and Quiet Time
Since deleting social media, I`ve experienced so much personal growth. I feel more self-directed. My life was waiting to be lived and enjoyed just beyond the glare of a screen and I`ve since embraced it and reclaimed my time and made myself a priority. I am finally figuring out who I am, AND YOU SHOULD TOO!

Compassion fatigue, activism fatigue, secondary trauma, all of those are very real things. Being burned out doesn't mean you're a bad person, or that you don't care. It means your brain needs a break, because it's meant to deal with stress in short bursts, not a constant, nonstop deluge of stress. (And that's true no matter how privileged you are/aren't. That's just how human brains work.) Don't ever feel guilty for feeling burned out; it does not reflect on you as a person. You have nothing to be guilty about.
And, don't ever feel guilty about taking some time to rest, taking a step back from the news cycle, social media, filtering certain tags, etc. etc. You can always come back to it. You need to give yourself a break, or you'll have some kind of breakdown, be it mental, physical, or both. And there is a difference between staying informed and doomscrolling. There is a difference between "selfishness" or "self-indulgence" and self-care. There is a difference between "not caring" and taking a step back for the sake of your mental health. And yes, there is a difference between "I don't care," and "I just don't have the mental/physical/emotional/etc. bandwidth to deal with this right now." (It should also be noted that just because someone isn't posting about current events or what have you, doesn't mean they don't care about them or aren't doing anything. They could be doing stuff you can't see, or maybe they feel they have nothing to say that hasn't already been said, or maybe blorboposting is what's keeping their mental health okay. You don't know, so just be kind.)

If you search for ‘#selfcare’ on Instagram on any given day, you will be immediately bombarded by over 1 million results. You’ll scroll through images of skinny white women in yoga inversions, of bubble baths and hot chocolate, of self-care journals, kits and workbooks you can click through to buy. You might, if you’re lucky, scroll past an Audre Lorde quote, pasted in an aesthetically pleasing font against a pastel background: ‘Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation.’ Lorde actually followed this statement with ‘and that is an act of political warfare,’ although that part is often left out, presumably so as not to upset the corporations cashing in on our collective insecurities. Despite its origins in activism and organising, the concept of self-care has now become squarely co-opted by capital through means akin to corporate creep, and it’s little wonder why. The phrase’s popularity has exploded in recent years as inequalities have widened, capitalism’s grip has tightened, and global politics have looked extremely volatile. As people search for answers, capitalism sells them false consciousness: bath bombs and mason jars on the surface, individualism and atomisation underneath.

perfect morning routine 💗

1. wake up early (5:30-6:30 am): start the day off with waking up early to make your mornings feel less rushed.
2. hydrate (5 minutes): drink a glass of water to kickstart your metabolism and rehydrate after a night’s sleep.
3. yoga (10-15 minutes): a short yoga session can help loosen muscles and improve blood flow.
4. meditation (5-10 minutes): practicing deep breathing to center your mind and reduce stress for the day ahead.
5. exercise (20-30 minutes): moderate workouts like a jog, bodyweight exercises, or cycling to boost your energy levels and release endorphins.
6. healthy breakfast (20 minutes): aim for a balance of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. (if you take daily vitamins, do it after having breakfast)
7. shower/skin care (15-20 minutes): refresh yourself and do your skincare routine.
8. daily intentions/scheduling (5 minutes): write and/or vocalize your priorities or goals for the day. you can use a calendar or a journal. this will help you with getting all important things done.
all 8 steps do not need to be done every day but consistency brings the best results!! this routine will leave you feeling energized with a clear mind to start the day!!

How to start creating content:
• Figure out what kind of content you want to make (beauty, fashion, cooking...)
• Figure out which kind of people you want to attract (which gender, which age, where they live)
• Ask yourself why people should watch your content? What makes you different from other content creators?
• Keep up to date with the current trends and use advantage of them
• Try everything out and be patience, you're just starting out

I would honestly call the left's inability to accomodate people with morality-based OCD compulsions an accessibility issue at this point.
