Researchers have since found many examples of physiological arousal leading to emotional arousal, but they wanted to delve deeper into that link. The heartbeat provided the perfect means to do so.” “Cardiac activity can be divided into two phases: systole, when the heart muscle contracts and pumps out blood, followed by diastole, when it relaxes and refills with blood. Beginning in the 1930s, scientists found that systole dampens pain and curbs startle reflexes. Further work traced this effect to the fact that during systole, pressure sensors send signals about the heart’s activity to inhibitory regions of the brain. This may be useful because, while the brain must constantly balance and integrate internal and external signals, “you cannot pay attention to everything at once,” said Ofer Perl, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Slow Breaths
Ahead of me penning this down, a lot of time has passed since the last time i spoke my mind with words that give you something to smile about. Truth be told I have been battling a whole lot and the thought of sitting down to vent on the paper has just ended up at that, a mere thought.
Dear Malaikah,
At the time of you reading, i do hope that you realize that life happens to you whether you like it or not and the dancefloor we navigate around has the music playing whether we choose to dance or not. The music won't stop just cause you're tired or upset. That has nothing to do with life, you will still have to dance until the song stops playing (And that usually happens when your skin has creases and you've become the joke of a few kids cause of the color of either your hair, your teeth or even your eyes). During this time on the dancefloor you will realize that a number of things will require your attention, but not everything will require your reaction. You have to take each instance with a pinch of salt. You need to take Slow Breaths because the music gets overwhelming and if you act out at anything and everything, it will drain you. This will help you maintain the elasticity in your skin and reduce the number of white hairs that will stick out your head (Don't argue with this, its science).
In a nutshell, things happen to you and you have no control over that. However, you have control over how you respond to them. For that reason it is important that you take slow breaths when the beat is rather fast and requires that you sway more to the left and not the right. Slow breaths when the music is transitioning between varying tempo's so that you maintain your composure through it all. When you miss your steps as you dance, accidentally slip or whatnot, don't be too hard on yourself. The music is still playing. Take a few slow breaths. Get back on your feet. You've got this.

Slow breaths.
He kept his eyes shut tight. His chest rose and fell slowly. His breathing sounded too loud, no matter how much he tried to quiet it.
Stay quiet.
His heartbeat thundered in his ears. 
Bum bum, bum bum, bum bum. 
Too loud. Too loud!
“Wh̶e͝r̛e͘ ar͜e y͟o͠u̶...͟”
He squeezed his eyes shut tighter and tried to keep his breathing steady. His heartbeat sped up, making his task near impossible.
Bum bum bumbum bumbumbumbumbumbum
 Do ̷y̷o͢u̴ t͡hi̴nk t͝ḩere'͞s̢ an̨y̶ poi͝nt҉ ̸i͞n hįding͏?̕”
Slow breaths. Stay quiet. Slow breaths, stay quiet.
“I̡'̕m g͢oi͘n҉g̡ t̡ǫ ͜f̶i͠nd you͠.” 
Playful. That’s what that tone was. This was a game.
Slow breaths, stay quiet. 
“I ̀c͏a̴n̡ s̛eńse҉ y͏o͠ur͠ f̶eaŗ.”
Slow breaths stay quiet.
“I ̷c̀an̡ ̢ḩea͡r y̨o̸ur ra͠cin̡g he̷a̢r̴tb͘ęa͡t͘.̷”

“P͟o̵or̡ ͡l͜it͞t́lę p͡u͡p̢pet̕.̵..͟”
Slowbreathsstayquiet.

The door burst open. He opened his mouth to scream, but no sound came out. No sound ever came out.
Yet he still hadn’t been quiet enough.
(Well, I tried to write a fic. Easing back into it.)
