Introducing the Bell Spider, or Spider-Belle, depending on who you ask. In the Gamer-Focused metropolis of New Pixel, she protects it from evildoers as their one and only Spider-Belle!

Her name is a simultaneous pun, as Belle is french for beautiful, of course (her appearance is brought up more than she'd really like) but its also a reference to how she spins her webs! Unlike most Spiders, the Spider-Belle cannot spin webs as a thread. Instead, she makes bubbles! These web bubbles can be bounced off of for momentum and traversal, explode like a web grenade, and Jakylyn can even encase herself in one as a shield and let her run all over, bowling over anything in her way.

Her civilian identity is Jakylyn, a stay at home wife and aspiring streamer. Her husband Sirius is her guy in the chair, and is fully appreciative and supportive of her heroic endeavors.

Jakylyn is mildly autistic, and has trouble in social situations, she has several problems with certain textures, and wears full-body clothing to help her cope with touching things she doesn't like. The small bells on her jacket are to help her train to be stealthy and are how she refills her webspinners, simply pluck an orb off the jacket and BANG, refilled.

She had a run-in with the multiverse after being the Spider-Bell for 5 years. It didn't take her long to find out about the "trauma circlejerk" as she called it and leave, forbidding anyone from entering her universe. If she sees them, its on sight.

Concept and design created by the incomparable husband @sonyshock while the middle picture of Jakylyn punching Irondome, "Israel's superhero" is done by me. You can tell because its much worse 8P

A lot of people like to act like Calvin is just this unstoppable force of Chaos and Philosophy, when really great care is taken to let you in on the fact that Calvin very much IS the child of his parents.

Calvin gets a lot of his verbosity and views on life from his father, but he’s six, so it’s all filtered through a view of a child’s thoughts on instant gratification.

Calvin’s mom is less concrete, but we do get glimpses of Calvin’s gift for sarcasm, and if his grandmother is to be believed, his mother was just as much of a rambunctious chaotic kid as he was.

That’s not even getting into her penchant for tricking Calvin into doing exactly what she wants (a trait she shares with his father) From pretending a plate of rice is maggots to just *letting* Calvin smoke so he can learn a lesson about not doing it, she really passed on a lot of traits to her son.

So yeah, Calvin isn’t some devilish child who cursed his parents. His parents were just immensely chaotic individuals in their youth who calmed down and began to temper those tendencies later in life. Possibly to the point of forgetting what it’s like to be a kid, but those traits are still there, just hidden under a lot of layers of life and needing to be mature to raise a kid.

just finished my rewatch of all five seasons of bbc's merlin, and my sister and i decided it would be fun to keep count of how many times merlin saved arthur's life throughout the show, so here is an accumulated list:

(disclaimer: it is absolutey possible that we weren't always watching attentively and that we might have missed a case or two, but i like to believe that it is kinda accurate)

times arthur would have died if merlin hadn't saved him

• 1x01: dagger thrown at arthur ⟶ merlin slowed down time to pull arthur out of the way

• 1x02: snakes supposed to poison arthur ⟶ merlin exposes the snakes and arthur kills them

• 1x04: poisoned cup ⟶ merlin drinks from it instead

• 1x05: a griffin attacks them ⟶ lancelot fights it, and merlin enchants his sword/spear so that it’ll work

• 1x07: arthur is to be sacrificed to the sidhe ⟶ merlin saves him

• 1x10: ealdor gets attacked, including arthur, and they’re doomed ⟶ merlin creates a huge wind gust to save everyone

• 1x13: questing beast attacks arthur ⟶ merlin kills it

• 2x13: arthur's wounds are getting worse ⟶ merlin finds balinor in time and has him help him (HONORARY MENTION)

• 3x04: arthur gets attacked (again) ⟶ merlin uses magic to save him (again)

• 3x07: morgause tries to kill arthur with a fire beam ⟶ merlin uses magic to make the fire beam explode before it reaches arthur

• 3x08: arthur gets attacked by wyverns ⟶ merlin uses his dragonlordness to stop them

• 3x08: arthur wears the eye of the phoenix bracelet (sucking life-force out of someone) ⟶ merlin takes it off him

• 3x12: arthur gets shot by a poisoned arrow ⟶ merlin uses magic to help him, then brings him to gaius

• 3x13: an army of immortal deads attacks camelot ⟶ merlin empties the cup of life of their blood to “kill” them all

• 4x01: dorochas attack arthur ⟶ merlin pushes arthur out of the way to get attacked instead

• 4x04: their food gets poisoned ⟶ merlin uses magic to save them

• 4x05: arthur fights in a duel and is about to be striked down ⟶ merlin makes the opponent’s sword fall out of his hands with magic

• 5x01: arthur and their men get attacked by morgana’s men ⟶ merlin saves arthur and gets them away from the battle

• 5x04: arthur almost got beheaded by odin ⟶ merlin created an earthquake with magic to stop that

• 5x06: dark tower traps ⟶ merlin parries an arrow with magic

• 5x07: arthur gets poisoned ⟶ merlin saves him with magic

• 5x08: someone wants to shoot an arrow at arthur ⟶ merlin attacks the shooter and saves arthur

• 5x11: kara tried to stab arthur ⟶ merlin uses magic to save him

and the one time he fails: 5x13, mordred stabs arthur with a sword forged on a dragon’s breath — merlin doesn’t get him to avalon in time

which brings us to a total of 27.5 times that merlin has saved arthur's life throughout the show

we also kept track of all the times arthur saved merlin's life, so here is that list:

• 1x03: merlin tells uther he is a sorcerer to save gwen (which would’ve gotten him a death sentence) ⟶ arthur convinces his father that merlin is lying out of love for gwen

• 1x04: merlin drank from a poisoned cup ⟶ arthur gets the antidote for him

• 1x11: arthur drinks poison so that merlin won’t have to ⟶ it was actually a sleeping draft though (HONORARY MENTION)

• 1x13: questing beast attacks ⟶ arthur pulled merlin out of the way

• 2x12: dead stone statue thingy attacks merlin ⟶ arthur strikes it down

• 4x01: a dorocha flies towards merlin ⟶ arthur pushes him out of the way

• 4x08: the lamia was about to kill merlin ⟶ arthur comes in at just the right time

which brings us to a total of 6.5 times that arthur saved merlin's life

it's kind of crazy to me to compare it like this, because on the one hand 27 near-death experiences across 65 episodes doesn't really sound like a lot. but at the same time i can't believe that arthur would have died 27 times if it hadn't been for merlin. and to think that arthur only saved merlin's life 6 times though?? oof

on my next rewatch, my sister and i want to make a list of all the moments that contributed to arthur's death (a so-called "doom list" with moments like merlin poisoning morgana in 2x13 etc), but that one is definitely going to be more subjective, since it'll be based on things that we think could've prevented arthur's death if they had gone any different

Yesterday for the first time I saw a post in a public forum that actually points out Marika has every reason to be so cold & distant towards Maliketh... thanks God.

The Two Fingers/ EIden Beast stood aside & let her entire family die, then when it successfully entrapped her in a literal divine prison it said “here we gave you a brother lol” like istg WHAT are you even saying. Her entire real family is already in a ditch !!! No prayers to the Gods help them! And now these Godlike beings are like take this random guy as your bro???

It’s confirmed in the base game Shadowbeast is like sleeper agent that the Two Fingers put there to monitor their Empyrean & off them if they try to rebel, no matter how earnest the Shadowbeast sounds. Ranni and Blaid literally grew up together & we still have to get rid of him at the end of her questline 💀 Marika was a young woman who had lost everything then forced to recognize some stranger as family. To her that must be some fucked up joke.

And get this, I do believe Maliketh and Blaidd care for Marika & Ranni genuinely, it’s a tragedy that they were born to bring “nothing but bale” to the person they love. Just like how Messmer, the beloved son in the Shadow, also became a curse to the person he loves the most in the end. That’s the doomed narrative they are trying to portray.

As someone with relatives who watched this god damned show, I feel the need to point out, with one simple sentence, HOW Ancient Aliens is racist. And while there is plenty more racist and wrong with it, this is my primary takeaway.

Ancient People are not allowed to just be smart.

It perpetuates the idea that ancient people were uncultured savages by making the claim that they COULDN’T have come up with their architectural marvels on their own. That two groups of people across the globe COULDN’T have come up with similar ideas by coincidence and intelligence, or even through chance meetings and shared ideas. Everyone knows that these things are white modern, and therefore ancient people are simply too uncivilized not advanced enough to have this knowledge.

It’s incredibly euro-centric, and whether or not by accident, reinforces the idea that all our technological advances as a species are ACTUALLY done by white providence, and that anyone of any other race who creates a beautiful building or something white people don’t understand HAS to be the result of some manner of divine or extraterrestrial blessing.

Ancient Aliens is not some “OH THERE’S MAGIC AND MYSTERY AND WHIMSY IN THE WORLD” show. It completely ignores DOCUMENTED EMPIRICAL FACTS in favor of selling gullible people lies and conspiracies so they can sell books, dvds, and other shit they don’t need. It has been exposed as lies and psuedoscience practically ever since it’s premiere.

Nearly every branch of science involved has lifted their heads out of their important work to tell you it’s bullshit and everyone who believes in it is either a peddler of lies or a conspiracy theorist.

To quote Archeaologist Kenneth Feder, and his book Frauds, Myths, and Mysteries: Science and Pseudoscience in Archaeology:

“I realize that for some of you I'm being mean, snarky, and inflexible on this topic. And you'd be right. But in the face of a program and, at its core, a philosophy that is based on assumptions that degrade and diminish the inherent human capacity to invent, create, build, cooperate, and rise to the occasion to solve great technological challenges, both in the present and in the past,[...] I maintain that meanness and inflexibility are entirely appropriate responses.“

I devoured 90% of Dungeon Meshi within three days, and then had to wait only a single month to get the ending. But holy hell what a ride. I have trouble reading for long periods of time, but GOD.

I have never been more spoken to in all my life. As an autistic person, as someone who likes to cook, and as someone who's read the Monster Manual front to back and back to front multiple times.

What a wonderful story. It truly had it all, and wrapped itself up with a wonderful bow. I only wish I had it confirmed exactly what everyone was doing in the epilogue. I know Marcille and Falin stayed with Laios and Kabru stayed with him for some reason. But what choice did Izutsumi make? Did Chilchuck go back to his wife? Where did Senshi go? Was I just too autistic to see it?

I already want to re-read it again.

A good story is like a good meal. Hastily devoured, and essential to life, but afterwards there's always that small feeling of wanting more.

I love Dungeon Meshi.

I am so sorry, apparently it’s 2024 and I’m arguing about dragon age again lmao. How did I get here! Why is this happening!! Time is a flat circle!!!

Anyway. People can feel how they want about the past games not mattering in this game. If you’re cool with it, I’m happy for you. But there’s one particular argument in defence of this choice that is really, really bothering me and I have to rant

The thing I keep seeing is “well all this other stuff has nothing to do with the main plot or Rook, so it should be cut” and that’s. Not a good way to tell stories in my opinion. Because here’s the thing: it’s not about the Big Overall Plot. It’s about the characters that live in this world, big and small

I’m going to use the example of Varric and Hawke cause I think it’s the easiest to explain quickly. Varric is a storyteller. That’s the defining trait of his character. He tells stories, and sometimes they’re true and sometimes they’re not and sometimes it’s something in between. In DA2 he tells you about his brother. In inquisition, he talks about hawke and there’s banter about several of the companions. Most of these are just little one liners that don’t “serve the overall plot” but they serve Varric’s character

And that matters

So if we take this character known for telling stories about people that have been in his life, well, he largely can’t do that now. How can he talk about Hawke, someone who can be a very close friend of his, without even their gender being a choice you can select? Or whether Varric should be saying ‘is’ or ‘was’ about them? How can he talk about the companions in DA2 or inquisition when a lot of them don’t have to be recruited or can die? Will he limit himself to only characters that are guaranteed to be a part of it and alive? Or is it that he and Rook will have such a shallow relationship that Varric, of all characters, never talks about his life and past exploits?

Or has Varric as a character changed so much that he doesn’t even want to tell stories anymore? That Hawke living or dying means nothing to him? That the friendships he built with people in 2 games mean nothing to him? That he’s become literally unrecognizable?

This is where the problem is. Sure, Rook maybe doesn’t care about these people they’ve never met. But do they care about Varric? What about if a companion mentions an old friend of theirs, talks about an experience they had that made them who they are - is that only okay if that experience isn’t from a previous game? Or are all the characters so flat that we never learn anything about their connections to others outside of Rook? Is this story SO focused on this player character and this plot that NOTHING else matters, even within the world, and there’s no depth to be found in any of the characters that feature in it?

Writing characters so that they only ever talk about things that “directly serve the plot” is how you get flat, unremarkable, boring, forgettable characters. And that’s not something I would have accused bioware of doing even if some instalments are stronger in this area than others. But it sounds like that’s what they’re doing here, at least with the past characters. Cause sure, maybe Morrigan is so closed off she’ll never mention her son and partner. That’s believable, even if iffy given that they’ve said she’s going to be more involved than we think. But Varric? VARRIC??? Never mentioning ANY of the people he used to spend time with and care about except Solas and maybe some of the inquisition characters that can’t die or not be recruited but also carefully skirting around what happened to them in the game? That’s literally not the same character

And I would expand this to like. A letter mentioning this or a codex mentioning that, or ambient dialogue about so and so - that makes the world feel deep and those random, unimportant NPCs feel richer by connecting them to the larger world. It’s not about “serving the plot”, it’s about making your world and characters deep enough that they feel real, lived in, and like something we can actually care about
