Since I was little kid, I remember my shul having police cars outside to protect us during high holy days, someone always monitoring the door, and security cameras showing all the entrances. After the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburg, it heightened. My rabbi and cantor were once in the news after spending a day testifying against someone who had threatened to bomb our shul.

I was a bit older when I found out that churches don't have security. I was shocked. "So, you can just go in whenever you want? They don't even lock the doors?" I remember asking. The mom of a goyische friend of mine was equally shocked to discover that shuls do have security. "Why would they need security?" she asked me.

It was then that I realized that the amount of security we had - and every other shul had - was not the norm.

I don't know how much of this is true, but apparently a Tommy hater on X talked about shooting Tommy and um, y'all that's... I know we don't like Tommy (hence why we're Tommy haters) but let's please think about how you saying you'd kill a gay character is not the "haha, I'm funny" moment you think it is.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think wanting a gay character (who's problematic, I won't deny that) to die is funny when gay characters are only recently not being killed off in media and are given happy endings. Also queer people in general are being killed and just because we're talking a fictional character doesn't mean that some bigoted people will not equate talking about a fictional character like this as it being okay to talk about actual queer people like this.

Like we all understand that being racist to a fictional character is just as bad as being racist to real people because it can be used as an excuse to be racist to actual people, right? So that logic also applies to gay characters.

I've always been a little thrown off by the way the characters (the team and the passengers) react to Reid trying to talk down Ted, and I've never liked that the episode ends with Ted being shot (although I appreciate that he survives).

I'm not saying this to be critical of the characters: the team doesn't have audio, and the passengers (save for Elle and the incapacitated psychologist) don't have the knowledge to see Reid getting through to him, but:

I don't know. Look at Ted's face. I'm bad at reading expressions, but at the very least, this doesn't seem like the expression of someone unaffected by what's being said to him, or the face of a man who's about to start shooting people. During the conversation, Ted stops aiming the gun at Reid, and yells at Leo to shut up when he tells him to shoot Reid.

I really think that Reid was on his way to talking Ted down, and I wish he'd gotten to do it. I don't think Elle hitting Ted while Reid is talking him down makes a lot of sense*. She's one of the few passengers who can understand that Ted is calming down, and I think she's at the right angle to see his changing expression. I wish Reid had gotten the chance to keep talking, because I do think he was close to ending it without anyone else getting shot.

One other thing I noticed while watching this episode—throughout the episode, Leo has always been onscreen while he speaks, either in the same frame as Ted, or the camera cuts to him while he speaks. However, if you rewatch the scene, notice that whenever Leo speaks during it, not only is he always offscreen, but his voice has an echo to it that wasn't there before. I don't think most of the analysis I post is reflective of the writer's intent, but that seems very intentional to me, symbolizing that Leo is becoming less real to Ted and therefore losing his grip on him.

*this is a criticism of the writing, not the character. yes, elle is impulsive, but the choice to hit ted while he's being talked down and is no longer aiming the gun at anyone seems like a strange and risky choice.

I’ve literally never had friends like this, only one person was that exception

I mean, I don’t talk to much at school or out side of school and I know people didn’t like talking to me anyways. I was the kid people would only be nice to in school because, quote ‘I wanna be spared when you shoot up this damn place’

just because I wasn’t always preppy and happy at school. Just because I wasn’t happy with myself. I won’t never ever even touch a gun but people in my irl life weren’t kind to me

I’ve said it before but it got so bad I almost killed myself. I’m surprised I didn’t go through with shit at the time and for a long time I hated myself even more for it.

still people were cruel and selfish to me.

but here was different. People didn’t use me as an object. People didn’t think I was violent or crazy. People here treated me like a person.

I not longer regret not going through with my attempt. I no longer feel as awful as I did over a year ago. I’ve realized stuff in my life just because someone would have a conversation with me that wasn’t fueled by another motive.

i have actual friends. I love people who love me dearly, and I love them too. And I cannot lose them. I can’t.
