The Soviets

'The workers, naturally enough, were the first to react to Bloody Sunday. Abandoning any hope of support from church or tsar, they turned for advice and organizational support to the opposition, especially to the socialists. The Social Democrats and Socialist Revolutionaries were slow to respond: their leaders were still in emigration, cut off from their potential constituents and preoccupied by heated polemics with one another. Local activists did what they could to improvise meetings, protests, and strikes, and gradually their contact with the workers improved and assumed more organized forms. The result was a new type of workers' association, the Soviet (Council) of Workers' Deputies. First set up in the textile town of Ivanovo-Voznesensk to coordinate a general strike, the soviets were usually elected by the workers of the major enterprises in any given town, at the rate of one deputy for every 500 or so workers. They would meet in a large building, or even in the open air, where not only deputies but also their electors could attend and contribute to discussions. This was a close approach to direct democracy, since, at least in principle, any deputy could be recalled at any time if he failed to satisfy his constituents and be replaced by someone else. The members of each soviet elected an executive committee to deal with day-to-day business and to negotiate with employers, municipality, and police: often they would choose professional people, seeing them as more skillful spokesmen than they themselves could be. Through the executive committees the socialist activists gained influence over the soviets and sometimes directly organized them. The soviets were the best forum for radical intellectuals and workers to cooperate with each other at a time of political crisis. For the workers, they took a familiar form: their general meetings resembled overgrown and disorderly village assemblies, in which everyone tried to speak and mass enthusiasm welled up. On the other hand, the executive committees supplied the element of conscious policy and organization. The soviets' greatest moment came in St. Petersburg in October 1905, when they organized a general strike which disrupted normal production and communications not only in the capital city but over much of the empire. This was the decisive blow which compelled the tsar to grant the October Manifesto, promising civil liberties and an elected legislative assembly.'

Tips to be more organised for school

By someone who is very disorganised, here are some things I've implemented to become more organised for school :

1. Pack your bag the day before :

Make sure you have all your books , pe kit , homework, pencil case, etc. It just saves you the stress in the morning and makes sure you definelty packed everything.

2. Do you homework the day it's set :

Yes , we all tend to procrastinate on our homework . But doing this makes sure it's out of the way and overall you'll have less homework to do at the end of the week .

( If you can't do it the day it's set obnoxiously highlight it in your calender or put a big ,annoying reminder on your phone .- This way you can't ignore it . )

3. Schedule your study/work sessions :

Find out when your exam , assignment, projects are / are due . Then schedule sessions leading up ---> to that date ( do not just cram it the day before , I know you think you can , but it will not provide the same results )

I feel like these are very basic, especially if you're naturally an organised person, but personally, it helps so much .

He's much better at ranching than growing crops and he's definitely the sort to get each of his lambs a bonnet after they're born. (He planted a cherry tree in front his house at least. He'll figure out actually tilling and working the land next season,,,, probably)

Woah this is so cool, my mini comic Food Magik in the G:Zines vending machine at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre!!

G:Zines is tied for my favourite zine fair, it's a monthly swap sell organised by a group of local legends who are doing so much for small press, zinemakers and emerging artists. I have such a blast every time I attend, and have been missing it so much the past few months while recovering from foot surgery! I'm zine deprived I TELL YA!

120 Days of Glowing Up

The university year is over and I have decided that I would like to start forming some habits that aren't study related. I think this break is a great time to focus on myself and create some habits that serve me and my self-care journey. I started this blog as a fresh start, to give myself somewhere to be myself and also become a better version of myself. The new university year starts on February 28th 2025, which is exactly 120 days away from now!

Habits I would like to focus on:

~ Journal every morning and night

~ Pull a tarot card most nights

~ Do my skincare routine everyday (includes my body)

~ Do Duolingo everyday

~ Reach 10,000 steps daily

~ Wake up at 8:30 at the latest

~ Drink 2L of water everyday

~ Read everyday

~ Make my bed every morning

Woke up late, didn't make my bed and didn't journal (I hadn't had the idea to do this challenge yet)

Went for a walk and completed all my rings and reached 10,000 steps.

Night

Had an everything shower and did my skincare

Journaled and pulled a tarot card

Read some of my current book - Pride and Prejudice
