Are you trying to give your OCs something to wear but feel that all you do has no style? Have you scoured the internet for clothing design tutorials and still cant come up with anything you like? Many years ago, I had this problem. I now know that while I knew the basics of clothing design, I did not know how to IMPLEMENT them because I had zero fashion vocabulary! I finally solved this by creating........

My clothing design inspiration board! It has a bunch of different types of clothes, accessories, patterns, and the like!

As a bonus, below the read more are some clothing/costume design advice primarily for character design purposes!

These are (sorta) recreations of notes—made for the general ideas section—which are currently impossible to find (though the advice below has more thoughts.) never mind guys i found them so now this post is gonna be a bit disjointed cause im just gonna slap in any unique advice from there. on top of the fact this has been sitting in my drafts for 3 thousand years. so, if this is hard to understand tell me and i will make a new version with a more unified and serious writing style.

first two-and-a-half advice were written yesterday who knows how long ago on pinterest, thats why they sound so informal. actually the whole post is so informal wow

Varied wardrobe:

[Title: Varied wardrobe]. If you have the time, give your characters different outfits! That can tell us so much more! (Not part of OG notes, but giving OCs different outfits for different situations can reveal stuff about different sides or layers of their personalities/headspaces! You can also just give them a wardrobe of different clothes. Either way, you can have different outfits have similar silhouettes and/or shapes, or have them be completely different, which could be used for a purpose like what I talked about above.)

Layers:

[Title: Layers]. Layers........... layeersssss....... yes.......... uhhh, yea I love layers (this is def not what i sounded like in the OG note) So layers! They make your outfits more interesting! They're really cool and, in my opinion, they make outfits feel more real. Also they give you an excuse to go crazy go stupid with clothing designs hahahahahaha brb im gonna go put 5 shirts on my OC plus 50 scarves and 2 hats (DEF not what I said in the OG notes its been a while and i have a lot more thoughts about this now)

ok and some thoughts from the original notes: Layering can tell us a lot about your character. You can even merge different clothing items! Think about it: short sleeves on long sleeves can make for a unique touch on an otherwise boring shirt. Go ham on the combinations!

Research (this one's important):

[Title: Research (this one's important)]. Research is cool! Look at all those buttons [, click: here: for link], no wonder there was a button shortage. Also obviously you have to research stuff before writing about another culture otherwise its gonna be some inaccurate crap. a well researched portrayal will be way more interesting and research (at least for me) can be rewarding in general. But you can also do research on time periods, jobs, and more! Research can be intimidating, but sometimes, you just gotta do it. And as I said about well-researched portrayals being more interesting, researching can give you ideas you would've never thought about [, click: here: for link to source]. Told ya research makes stuff more interesting. (really realizing these are more than just recaps, wow. im even citing crap.) So yeah, research is important for many aspects of storytelling, including costuming, and even if it's scary, your future self will thank you.

Imagery:

[Title: Imagery]. This is where you unleash your inner English teacher. You slap some object's shape, pattern, image, etc. somewhere to represent something. It could represent some deep-seated secret of the character, but it doesn't even have to be deep. It may just be a simple reference to a personality trait. Where you put the symbolism can also mean different things, like for example, hearts on a character are usually positive symbolism, but a heart on the sole of a shoe can, if you so desire, mean the character crushes others dreams.

Clothing variations:

[Title: Clothing variations]. Just look at this [, click: here: for link to an image of variations of vests]. Details. You can change them. All the details. Play around with them. Go even further, change the details no one notices. Have you ever seen a denim shirt? No? Make it happen. Make all those weird things happen. Yeah, that's it really.

Details:

[Title: Details]. (literally just copy-pasting the original note apart from maybe one awkward word replaced) Simple details like buttons, hemlines, lace or pleats can make your outfit feel all the more real. The possibilities are endless for such small add-ons.

Don't limit yourself to one type of anything, it's why I made this board! (Other than my own lack of ideas.) For example, learning to draw pockets is cool and all, but are you sure that's all you can do? I have a whole section for them!

So yeah that's it. I am tired and this post is very disjointed.

I have several different disabilities that make me misread, misinterpret and not process text and tone correctly. Any and all errors, mistakes, bluntness, and missed context is because I have those disabilities I take full responsibility for any harm or distress but it is never my intention ever. Endogenic being used as a classifier and umbrella label has not worked out, or well. and I personally encourage the separation of spiritual practices not tied to endos or the endogenic label.

as they drastically differ in mode, mentality, spirituality, culture, and religion. and endogenic spaces have not provided either a safe place for people too happily exist or to have their cultures and practices respected.

as endogenic as an umbrella term or shorthand for those practices does not work, as endogenic plurality and culture is drastically different from those with different spiritual and cultural practices and often clash.

well, as promised, im gonna talk a little about my obj kins . so, to start, im gonna say im not exactly sure what my kintype is precisely, and i feel as though it kind of shifts with my environment and in relation to my theriotype as well.

as in, most of the time, im just a dog therian yk. but sometimes my -type switches and i become a dog stuffie, and sometimes i become a shark or carp like pool toy/floatie and sometimes im a fluffy dog bed or a fluffy blankie and then im a real dog again.

when i try to see my true object self through my mind's eye i often see something like this:

ID: two pictures of the webkinz samoyed plush, it's an all white dog with long fur, in the first image it has a playful stance with its head lower than its bad and in the second image, the plush is standing with the front paws off the floor (ID end)

when i feel like im more of a pool toy i kind of look like one of my OCs, which is a very large sanke carp + dog hybrid, and some other times i also feel like i'm this dog bed ↓

ID: a pink on the outside, white on the inside dog bed made out of plush fabric, there is a bone shaped pillow and a rolled up blanket in the bed (ID end)

except light blue instead of pink and the inside is way more fluffy. my blankie-self is also blue plush fabric on one side, white fluffy fabric on the other, and its rather heavy and thick.

which of my -types i feel like at any given moment is determined by my mood, the environment im in, the people im with, etc.

so yeah. this is more of a 42 follower special now rather than 28, but that's fine with me ;p

Mangroves are one of our most endangered biomes and one of the most important for mitigating climate change. They protect islands and beaches from erosion and storms and are breeding grounds for many fish and invertebrates!

A new mob that can only be found in mangrove biomes in minecraft would hopefully increase interest in these amazing biomes in the real world! Especially for younger generations who may not even know what mangrove forests are (they don't exactly talk about them in public school here in the US, at least when I was a kid)

Handplates: Last-Minute Notes, Foreword, and Key!

I'm currently going over the first 10 pages in preparation for uploading. Making small fixes, doing some last proofreading. I'm hoping to be done today, but I've had some distractions. In the meantime, this is the preluding post to Handplates. Keep reading for the foreword!

Foreword: I’ll try and not be too much a fanboy and keep this short!

It’s a great honor to be able to work with zarla on this! I’m doing most of the legwork while zarla just double-checks to make sure everything looks fine. Whether she realises it or not, the Handplates AU was a massive game-changer in terms of fanfiction and fanon within the Undertale community. It helped spawn several dub channels, inspired many to begin writing their own AUs, and ignited multiple curious lore-hunters into inventing science behind Souls in Undertale! It was also one of the first long-term AU projects, and one of the longest that ended up being completed. In my opinion, Handplates is definitely one of the main reasons Undertale found its home on Tumblr. Handplates will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope this transcription will do it justice and serve as my love letter to this eight-year project. Here’s hoping it won’t take me as long to undertake this transcription!

P.S. I am absolutely writing every word of this with the Gaster Ukagaka (Link here: zarla-s gaster ghost post) hanging out on my desktop. 

Key:

[Italicised brackets will include environments first when applicable, then the actions taking place.]

Character: Spoken lines will have the character’s name then the line after a colon.

Character: (Internal Monologue) Internal monologues will be like spoken lines, except written in italics and will have “Internal Monologue” in parenthes for the first of that page, and “IM” every instance after.

Gaster: (signing) Gaster gets a special set of rules! If he is speaking in cipher around those who understand it (Subject 1 and Subject 2) it will be a spoken line. However, if it is around or to those who need sign language, the indicator “signing” will appear. Imply that he is always speaking when signing.

Gaster 2: (in cipher) Sometimes Dr. Gaster won’t sign when speaking to those who need it. In these cases, his lines will be preceded with “in cipher” in parentheses. Again, while we the reader know what he’s saying, those he’s speaking to can’t understand him.

Other notes: For the time being, I intend on writing events of panels in the order that makes most sense. For instance, sometimes in a panel, a character will be reacting to something said in the panel, so I may write the line first, then the character’s appearance.

Last thoughts:

I am NOT a professional! I’m doing this completely voluntarily and on my own time! I’m keeping things easy on myself with relatively lax uploading schedules, as well as having a bit of wiggle room with more pages prepared.

That being said, I would love to accept your criticism! If you use a screenreader or often require text descriptions, PLEASE tell me what I’m doing wrong or right!

Had a job interview where multiple people had told me I'd do well at the job, despite my disabilities, only to have the owner over exaggerate the amount of physical labour in the job to get me to leave by myself.

I’m actually dyscalclic (the math dyslexia) and that is SO WEIRD, I’d understand if it was fast paced grocery store or hell even a small restaurant. But a jewellery store/Jewellery making business? One of the most laidback types of stores?

I actually know a jewellery maker very well, and have met many of them and this is so completely wrong it pains me.

I think genuinely the person interviewing you was trying to fail you for being disabled, and or dyscalclic because the random math test happened.

if you can I’d report them for discriminatory practices, I’m unsure where you live so I can’t help more than that.

But that is in most cases and places discriminatory behaviour, especially the over-exaggerating of the physical labour in an attempt to discourage or dissuade you and others.

And also the random maths test! So weird? Some jobs may make you do competency tests for various things, but usually they tell you that you’re going to have to do them.

For someone to basically give you one out of nowhere is extremely suspicious and as someone who’s been through actual hell because of my severe learning disabilities, they DEFINITELY thought that because you were physically disabled you were mentally or learning disabled as well.

I’m so sorry that happened to you, shit sucks sometimes.

It doesn’t matter if Papyrus is waving, or handling a sports ball, or jogging, he always wears gloves. At the same time, Sans typically keeps his right hand in his pocket at all times, no matter if he’s attacking, randomly summoning bones, or just kidding around. Their right hands always seem to be covered, which puzzles Frisk.]

Panel 2: [While Sans is resting on Papyrus while they nap on the couch, Frisk sneaks up behind them.]

Panel 3: [Frisk slowly removes the glove off of Papyrus’ right hand.]

Panel 4: [A metal plate is attached to Papyrus’ hand. It reads ‘WDG-2’ above the letter ‘P’. It appears to be screwed on.]

Panel 19: [Frisk is very confused as Sans shrugs it off and puts a hand on Papyrus’ shoulder, glowing his left eye his signature blue to calm his brother. Papyrus seems to have snapped out of it.]

Sans: meh, some things are better off forgotten. But not that spaghetti, huh? how’s it comin’ along?Papyrus: OH! RIGHT! I NEED TO TURN THE HEAT UP.

I’ve seen a few things where Sans and Papyrus were experiments of Gaster’s and I felt like I owed it to my younger self to do something horrible with that idea, so here we go. Whether or not more will come of it, who can say.

(Gaster has a Lost Soul head since they can’t remember him.)
