I feel like this shouldn’t be a hot take but maybe if you take into consideration what happened in the last three years it makes sense people are exhausted and grieving. Let’s not be so hard on ourselves for going through a pandemic, for going through loss, for going through economic recession and political instability, while being forced to go on as if nothing is happening. Let’s not fall into the mindset that we are weak because we are suffering, or that we deserve that suffering, because when you think about it, too much has been going on, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by this.

in good faith regarding that biden post i just want to ask like if you really feel as though the dems across the board have better intentions for positive change rather than maintaining the status quo of their position? Like genuinely great to hear about the accomplishments of course but the things that were bad when trump was president haven’t really changed for the better in the time biden was president. Plus the current situation with Palestine and how biden is doing so much to arm Israel with even more tools of destruction that his own staff held a protest against those actions, it just feels like there’s a lot more bad than good in the grand scheme of things at the end of these past four years.
like yeah anger sells but also some of these bad things that has happened under the watch of this administration feel like they outweigh some of the better good things this administration has done if that makes sense?
I don’t disagree that Democratic Party has been pretty dogshit and is pushing for just maintaining the unsustainable status quo. The issue comes in the notable party that opposes the Democratic Party, which is just literally christian fascism whose current big talking point is how LGBT people deserve to be shot in the street (only slightly exaggerating in some instances)
Thats why in the tags I put that american politics is hell. Both sides are awful horseshit. But one of them is so so significantly worse.

I went into someone’s basement. Squidward shapeshifted into a low poly version of Barack Obama and SpongeBob was weirded out.

Hey. Fun fact.
Germany is replaying the beginning of the Third Reich now.
The Too-German-Didn’t-Read is that main guys of the right-extremist party that is currently on a major rise, AfD, met with actual neo-nazis discussing plans to deport millions of people, those being anyone whose families came here after WW2 + anyone helping immigrants and refugees, to a fucking "Model State in North Africa“ specifically conscripted for the sole purpose of keeping them there.
And a good chunk of the other politicians plus the main law council itself that could do anything against it is saying it can’t ban them because the AfD isn’t proven to be acting in incitement enough.
Fun.

more people should be horrified on how trump immediately used this attempt to show off his patriotism and how the crowd reacted

I just read another good Atlantic article, "Kamala Harris and the Rise of Neobitherism," by Adam Serwer. I got it via a gift link on Bluesky, so the paywall hell described by the last Atlantic article I linked would be in effect for any direct link, but you should be able to find it.
Anyway, an excerpt [CW for various racisms, slavery, rape]:

Ok listen. You know I hate to talk about this shit on here. But sometimes I gotta.
I keep hearing various election results and how bigots and actual nazis gained significant ground.
To those who refused to vote because "boohoo everything sucks anyway so I'm just gotta do nothing and keyboard warrior preach morals online at most" - congratulations, you helped them win. You could have helped us stop them, but no. I hope you're proud of yourselves.
To those who actually voted for these people - just... what the fuck is wrong with you. Do you understand that you're just a stupid little pawn in someone else's game of needless hatred? Do you understand that they don't give a fuck about you and actively want to hurt you as soon as you only slightly deviate from what they think an acceptable human being is? Do you lack even the most basic empathy for your fellow human beings? (Apparently yes) (Also get the fuck away from me)
And to those who haven't yet and can still vote for some election somewhere or have elections coming up: Take 5 fucking minutes to inform yourselves about parties, candidates and their goals and then GO VOTE (and ideally not for actual fascists and nazis jfc). We can come online together and cry about the state of things afterwards, but first do what you can do to protect yourself, your fellow human beings and your freedom.

leftists: we have fundamental political differences with the democratic party. the democratic party has abandoned the left. our beliefs and values have been politically disenfranchised by the democratic party.
liberals: so what we're hearing is that you hated biden for being old and white. you must be SO excited now that the party is offering you a young woman of color with the same political values! surely we have fixed the problem.

yes, i hate the candidates. yes, i support palestine and i'm anti-zionist. yes, kamala will probably continue the work of biden and assist in israel's genocide of the palestinians. but this is the fucking trolley problem. what do you think donald trump will do? do you think trump will not genocide palestinians? the electoral college is a dated and broken system rigged in favor of halting progress and electing high quality candidates. we should be using ranked voting in every state or at least something different. this man is literally saying that you will never get to vote again if he's elected. these people hate you. these people have been working their hardest to throw shit at the wall to get their dictator into play. this shouldn't even be close. do not write in a third candidate. i beg of you. if the effort was well coordinated, there would maybe be a chance. but conservatives will just laugh at our in-fighting as the cops pound your skull into the ground. please, do not feel numb to all the politics. believe me we're all tired. i watched hillary lose to trump when everyone thought hillary had it in the bag. back then i was on the side of the fascists. please don't let fascists win.

the idea of "sending a message to biden" is just so intrinsically flawed... like what is he going to do? not being elected will make him realise the error of his ways and he will fix everything with... the presidency he no longer has?
or will trump see why biden didnt get reelected and and do a 180 so he can have a second term? oh wait this *is* his second term

When it comes to Palestine, you have to understand, the end to this won't come from Palestine nor Israel, it's going to come to the US, specifically the president.
I know it sucks, a country from another hemisphere shouldn't play this high of a role in a genocide but that's the truth. Israel would not have the resources or money to keep killing innocent people without the US supporting them. When it's time to vote, putting Trump in office spells immediate death for Palestine.
Just so you understand, here's things about Trump and Kamala's stances on Israel (IDs in alt)

Trump back in office spells the end of Palestine forever. He will financially support the end of Palestinians forever. I cannot stress that enough. On the other hand, Kamala has said more in the name of protecting Palestine. A vote for Kamala gives Palestine a fighting chance.
I want to make it clear, I'm not happy with the candidates. If this election somehow turned into putting Kamala, Trump, or the squirrels on my campus in office, I'd vote for the squirrels. But with that being said, please vote.
Not voting isn't going to help the situation, apathy and complaining on social media has never changed the political sphere. But voting has. We got Trump out of office because we all came together to get him out and with the past assassination attempts coming from a Republican and someone who once voted for Trump, shows that he's losing supporters and we're in the best spot now than ever but that doesn't count unless you actually go to the polls and vote.

The nature of the internet is that things come and go. Events happen and then a few months later we forget about them until they become relevant again.
If this election season you decide that you’re going to vote third party because you hate the democrats’ politics and you want to make real political change, ask yourself if you’re going to follow through.
Are you going to try and work towards getting ranked choice voting in your state? Are you going to help campaign for third party candidates in the future? Are you going to work to make it so third party candidates can be viable in the US?
Or are you going to vote third party, hope for the best and forget about this whole thing in the future if all goes well? Are you going to say “I did my best to try and get my candidate elected” and then do nothing about it for another 4 years?
Because if it’s the latter, this is not the election year to play chicken with democracy. I don’t know how things will shake out in the future, but we can’t play fast and loose this year. If you don’t know for certain that you will follow through, please vote blue this year. Change is not something that happens through one election, but if the republicans get elected this year any change that has been made might be lost.

broski are you in like... Russia? U doing ok over there?
Uh ummmmm😳😳... ????????? yes i'm in Russia????? i always was here??????
I guess, uh, PERSONALLY I'm quite well yeah thank you for your concern anon😌 I'm ok rn and I live the same way as any of my average fellow citizen soooo I also sometimes suffer from a lack of money, comfort attention, love, time and mental energy, but at least I'm still alive🥹 That's all like this thanks to my impenetrable thinking and pacifism heehee, otherwise I'd have gone crazy with this continuous political propaganda here.
I just love my motherland, its culture, its people and life here, but not those poliDICKians who are now measuring dicks with other such idiots.
(anon if you wanted to have a filthy political answer so uhhh IT'LL BE A QUITE LONG POST ABOUT MY INNER CRIES THAT WERE WAITING FOR FREEDOM I'M SORRYYYYY I just want to speak out and never return to this topic again if there's no need to)
I feel sorry and upset each time I see how radicalist propaganda brainwashes ordinary people, whether ukrainians, americans, russians or any other peoples who are now under intense pressure. Neither side is right, everyone who starts conflicts is always to blame for any conflict, but not ordinary people who just want to fucking survive. Alas, in my motherland there is just terrible oppression of pacifists now, because they are considered anti-patriots and extremists (that's NOT even a joke really, now pacifists are being driven under the same roof with terrorists and sectarians👍👍)
I'm just so scared of what that all will lead. Y'know, adequate and sane people would never want to harm anyone but OH ALAS, a drop of power makes weak people crazy. Unfortunately, such rotten fruits are now at the head of many influential countries in the modern world🤷‍♀️
But! I have a ray of hope. Many russians are aware of this problem. They know that the russian authorities seem to be set against absolutely everyone, both their fellow citizens and foreigners. That's why I chose the perfect tactic – I'm also against. Against all politicians. I am against all authorities😌 I just hate them all😌 but at the same time I love people regardless of their nationality. As for me, this is the most humane and the most correct choice, at least if we take into account the fact that we russians cannot influence the situation in world, no matter how much we want it. (c'mon we can't even choose anything in our own country)
So. The conclusion. I'm scared, I'm angry and I'm an anarchist yeah. Stay sane and don't be a victim of radical propaganda. Love people. Be supportive to those who in need. We ALL are fellow humans and we must stay them.
