GRÝLA: THE GIANTESS www.xphaiea.bigcartel.com “Grýla had three hundred heads, six eyes in each head, besides two livid and ghostly blue eyes at the back of each neck. She had goat’s horns, and her ears were so long as to hang down to her shoulders at one end, and at the other to join the ends of her three hundred noses. On each forehead was a tuft of hair, and on each chin a tangled and filthy beard. Her teeth were like burnt lava. To each thing she had bound a sack in which she used to carry naughty children and she had, moreover, hoofs like a horse. Besides all this, she had fifteen tails, and on each tail a hundred bags of skin, every one of which bags would hold twenty children.” from 'Icelandic Legends' collected by Jón Arnason (translated by George E. J. Powell and Eiríkur Magnússon), 1864 ••• #xphaiea #gryla #icelandicfolklore #folklore #iceland #macabre #horror #icelandiclegends #horrorart #witchart #esoteric #occult #beautifulbizarre #artdoll #artdolls #art #artist #folklore #dollartist #scandinavia #scandinavianfolklore #folkhorror #troll #paganart #icelandic #textileart #textileartist #goblincore https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn7G_NxrDM0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

https://rumble.com/v1y06ng-edvard-grieg-sigurd-jorsalfar-suite-op-56.html?mref=17947j&mc=9fatg
Prague Symphony Orchestra, conductor: Vaclav Smetacek "Edvard Grieg Sigurd Jorsalfar, Suite Op. 56" is a captivating musical composition that showcases the talent and creativity of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Edvard Grieg, born in 1843, is widely regarded as one of Norway's greatest composers. Known for his nationalistic and romantic compositions, Grieg's music often drew inspiration from Norwegian folk traditions and landscapes. His works played a pivotal role in establishing a distinct Norwegian musical identity. "Sigurd Jorsalfar" is a three-movement symphonic suite composed by Edvard Grieg. The suite is based on the play of the same name by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, which tells the story of the Norwegian king Sigurd I, known as Jorsalfar or "the Crusader." a. Introduction (In the King's Hall): The suite begins with a majestic and regal introduction, evoking the atmosphere of a grand hall filled with nobility. Grieg's use of rich harmonies and grand orchestrations sets the stage for the heroic journey that unfolds throughout the suite. b. Borghild's Dream: The second movement, "Borghild's Dream," is a lyrical and introspective piece that showcases Grieg's ability to create delicate and poignant melodies. The music reflects Borghild's dream as she envisions Sigurd's triumphs and the challenges he will face on his journey. c. Homage March: The final movement, "Homage March," is a triumphant and celebratory piece. It represents Sigurd's victorious return to Norway and the homage paid to him by his subjects. Grieg's use of stirring melodies, rhythmic drive, and powerful orchestration creates a sense of pride and nationalistic fervor. "Sigurd Jorsalfar" is a prime example of Grieg's commitment to incorporating Norwegian folk elements into his compositions. Throughout the suite, Grieg weaves traditional Norwegian melodies and rhythms, infusing the music with a distinct nationalistic flavor. The result is a composition that captures the spirit and essence of Norway's cultural heritage. "Sigurd Jorsalfar" holds great significance both within Grieg's body of work and in the realm of classical music. Grieg's ability to merge elements of Norwegian folklore and nationalistic sentiments with his own unique compositional style showcases his mastery as a composer. The suite remains beloved by audiences for its evocative melodies, emotional depth, and its representation of Norway's rich cultural heritage. "Edvard Grieg Sigurd Jorsalfar, Suite Op. 56" is a testament to the brilliance and innovation of Edvard Grieg as a composer. Through this composition, Grieg successfully captures the heroic journey of Sigurd Jorsalfar, infusing the music with Norwegian folk elements and nationalistic fervor. The suite stands as a testament to Grieg's enduring legacy, showcasing his ability to create evocative melodies and transport listeners to the landscapes and traditions of Norway. "Sigurd Jorsalfar" remains a beloved and significant work within the realm of classical music, captivating audiences with its beauty and cultural significance.

You are quite lucky if you manage to get a glimpse of these trolls, since they can go invisible from the sight of humans, at their own will. Although I have heard of some kind of special round stone with a hole in the center, that will make the troll visible if you peek through the hole. This troll is not for sale but I will be making more that are. To get notified when new trolls are up for sale, you can sign up to the newsletter: http://bit.ly/nymla-newsletter Thank you! <3

Who are the Nøkken and Nisse???
They’re being and creatures are from Scandinavian Folklore, I get that from my fathers side. A Nøkken or nøkk, they’re a kind of shapershifter, that turns into a man or horse and lures people into a lake and drown them, also sometimes they play a violin to lure victims onto thin ice where they’ll fall through and drown.I guess a bit like a kelpie ?there’s also nightmara, who basically give nightmares, but are bad omens, which is why i place shoes at the end of my bed, and the horseshoe.a Nisse is a…well its a good undead? wight…spirit, something invisible ahahah erm need to check up on that, but it helps out farmers if they’re good, and leave food out for it, but will cause problems if they don’t.honestly just be good to your neighbors and strangers….but also wary.

TROLL HUNTER
youtube
My all-time favorite movie about Trolls!
“Troll Hunter” is a mockumentary/faux documentary playing the world of realism. Granted, not many people seem to be into Troll folklore or mythology, but there was a time when people used to tell stories of such living beings.. the blurred line between reality & fantasy are further distorted when watching this totally Awesome movie! Highly recommended for anyone who thinks beyond the framework (so to say). Otto Jespersen plays the hunter and he IS - MY - JAM! UGH! SUCH an Awesome performance.
SO worth watching! We once lived in a world of giants - that I do know is real.

I may have to agree with Kristoff that reindeer are better than people, especially after my wonderful experience this past fall with the @cairngormreindeer in Scotland! These creatures are magnificent, clever, & so fluffy. And yes, the fuzz on their antlers is super soft! (📸 @catherine) ❄️ ❄️ Seeing #Frozen2 got me thinking about this herd since Sven is a reindeer & they’re shown as a regular part of life for some of the characters, which makes sense since the queendom of Arendelle is inspired by Norway, a Scandinavian country. While Scotland is not part of Scandinavia, this herd was introduced to Scotland by a Swedish Sami man named Mikel Utsi. The reindeer are an integral part of Sami life and understandably take a prominent role in their folklore. In particular, a white reindeer (slide 2) is particularly special as it is seen as something of a celestial quadruped & bringer of good fortune if you can catch it. I couldn’t catch this one. It wanted nothing to do with us, not even the treats! 🤣 . . . #cairngormreindeer #reindeerarebetterthanpeople #scotland #wanderlust #traveltuesday #cairngormreindeerherd #cairngormnationalpark #frozen #geektravel #scandinavianfolklore #visitscotland #nofilter #nofilterneeded #magicalmoments #girlontheroam (at Cairngorm Mountain) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Vki_GA4gQ/?igshid=1aur7himlqdra

🌲SCANDINAVIAN MOUNTAIN TROLL 🌲 @mili.fay.art #digitalsketching #timelapse #video BE THE FIRST to 🌟 name the Scandinavian Troll King 🌟 and win a high resolution PDF of the final painting. 😊 💥NOTE: This is the last Contest Entry Painting. I'm not sure when I'll be able to post this one. I'll give you a few hours heads up. 💥 Maybe tomorrow? 🤔 The idea behind this painting is that a traveler though he found a nice protected spot to rest. He lit a fire and settled down to warm himself, not realising he's sitting between the feet of a mountain troll. 😱😊 I'm thinking of making the skin of the troll look like he's made of stone and boulders, while his clothing and hair are grass and trees. You can even see a few mountain 🐐 perching on him. ☺️ 🎨 The #sketch was created on a #CintiqCompanion in Photoshop CS5. #Camtasia 8 is the software I used to record the screen. Final Painting Medium: watercolor, ink, and pencil crayons on Borden & Riley's Rag Drawing 627 size 11 x 14 inches. 😁 #MythoJuly #mythology #mountaintroll #troll #scandinavianmythology #scandinavianfolklore #milifayart #art🎨
