DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game

Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter. 

Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.

The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge. 

And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).

And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game. 

Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.

After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely). 

Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.

Shortly before Darkening Day—the holy day in my tradition that celebrates the Winter Solstice—I discovered what may be the most beautiful stone I've ever found during a river offering.

I was initially drawn to it purely for its size and smoothness, thinking it must be a basalt stone, which are very common in local waterways. However, looking at it later, I was floored to realize that it's not actually a solid black rock, but a darkly translucent crystal filled with patterns. From what I can tell, it's a specimen of agate.

One of the central tools I use in my practice is the Stroking Stone, which I utilize for physical healing. Traditionally, a Stroking Stone should be quartz-bearing and naturally smoothed by water, and as agate is a polymorph of quartz, and this stone was found directly in moving water, those parameters line up perfectly. What's more, though, the way to consecrate a Stroking Stone involves blessing it during the Sabbatical Ceremony of Darkening Day, which is strongly associated with both water and healing. Finding this just days before the one day of the year during which I can consecrate such a tool felt very auspicious to me.

I am excited to get to know this amazing stone and build magical rapport with it over time.

The Egg Cleanse

Egg cleansing (also called Limpia) is a ritual that can remove curses, energy, leeches, hexes negative energy, and by some counts, physical ailments.

Needed:

• An egg

• A white candle

• Incense such as sage, copal, or frankincense

• Salt

• A bowl or glass

• Blessed or clean water

Instructions:

Light the white candle and the incense and make a short prayer to any spirits or deities for assistance. Pass the egg through the incense smoke a few times to concentrate it. Ask your guides to transform the egg into a collection vessel capable of holding negative energy and entities. Flick some water on the egg to bless it.

Starting at the top if the target's head, rub the egg around their body (the egg does not touch the body, it is kept a couple inches away), do this section by section rotating around the target until you reach their feet. If the egg breaks, start over with a fresh egg, repeating the previous steps.

When finished, crack the egg into a bowl or glass of clean water with a pinch of salt added. After 30 minutes refer to the guide below to determine what was removed from the target:

• Small bubbles- Negative energy

• Web or mesh pattern- Entrapping, negative energy

• Pin shapes pointing up- Envious people working against the target

• Pin shapes pointing down- Black magick or persistent negative energy

• Eye pattern- effects of Evil Eye removed or someone is watching the target

• Blood in the egg- A crossed condition, dark energy, negative influence, energy leech

• Black spots or streaks- Curse, hex, or jinx

• Foul smell- Powerful negative magick

• Yolk floating halfway down- Someone is working moderately strong magick against the target

• Yolk floating on top of the water- Powerful magick is being worked against the target

• A face-like shape- An enemy is working against the target (thin faces are usually male while round faces are usually female)

Sharing dreams with ghosts

I’m making myself sad again by thinking of Ferrix, and specifically the cultural significance of its funerary rituals. Maarva referring to her older sister (she was six at her first funeral, the same age that Cassian becomes part of “the fight”) holding her hand. Wanting to be “lifted” by the dead, by being inspired by a self-eulogy. “Eulogy”… literally stemming from “good words” - but Maarva using her own self-deprecatingly, rueing that she didn’t start to fight back earlier.

Then you’ve got the question of Clem Andor and Salman Paak. Both executed by the Empire. Did they get funerals? At all? Or were they refused one… bricks straight to the wall instead? Does Wilmon ever get to caress and reminisce over his father’s brick as Cassian does with Clem’s ? The cruelty of this is appalling. The denial of a mourning ritual on Ferrix would be as bad as anything on Aldhani.

Bix is an orphan according to Gilroy but we know her father was alive in her living memory. When she hears the funeral music, she cries. But it also starts her healing process… and some part of her knows that, as she has literally dragged herself up to the window to listen. The catharsis of sadness and release allows her to start to claw back her identity. Maarva was like a mother to her too. I do wonder when she properly realises Maarva has died, but telling Cassian “Maarva was here!” and his response of “Wasn’t she great?” is one of the most heart-rending moments in the finale.

Then you have the other implied losses. Wilmon’s mother. Maarva’s sister. There are a few older people on the streets in episode 12, but you can realistically guess that Ferrix’s life expectancy figures are not great. Even before Imperial oppression, life is tough there.

The whole story is heading towards death… those who will die in Season 2, those who will die in Rogue One… those billions who will die on Alderaan and throughout the war against Imperial tyranny.

Yet the story still manages to be uplifting.

Dedra attempted to control and restrict the funeral. Tigo attempted to interrupt it.

The result? Ferrix woke up. Death brought it to life. The finale features Clem, Nemik and Maarva speaking, as it were, from beyond the grave. Ghosts shared their dreams with the living.

Luthen sees the consequences. The fight for freedom is on.

the idea came to me in a migraine induced dream but now im obsessed with the concept of a mu qingfang who knew the abuse bunhe was going through at the hands of og!shen qingqiu/shen jiu and did his best to treat the kid whenever he could (and bring his concerns to zhangmen shixiong, which were obviously very much ignored) and his constant worry over the situation means that when the qi deviation happens he is suspicious of shen qingqiu’s changes for all different reasons and very much protective of luo binghe -who is a sweet child and an earnest disciple who seems to always find the most incredible medicinal herbs to bring to his mu shishu as thanks for the care bestowed upon him- which means that when the whole shen qingqiu dying thing happens instead of bad mouthing luo binghe or fighting him at every chance he does his best to come over and keep an eye on things to try and help him and make sure luo binghe won’t kill himself trying to bring shen qingqiu back because he remembers that earnest kid and he’s witnessed luo binghe’s devotion to this shen qingqiu first hand and knows there is no way that the kid who cried when ning yingying found a bird with a broken wing and begged mu qingfang to fix it and the kid that would always borrow medical texts and try to find new herb combinations as if it was a game between him and qian cao disciples is actually doing anything nefarious to shen qingqiu’s corpse.

Herbal Limpia

There are many ways to perform a limpia, such as the methods I have shared on my blog before. This is another method that I know of. I have been taught these, and here, you can learn from me. Know that all limpias are simply different paths to the same destination.

Performing a limpia is a two person job. it requires cooperation and coordination, as well as trust. However, it does require firm boundaries as every limpia requires some level of either physical or spiritual contact. Be firm, and let your partner know what you are and aren't comfortable with.

The Ritual:

You will need: • A bundle of fresh herbs 1-2 feet in length Rosemary, rue, mugwort, sage, or basil are wonderful for limpias. I typically go into my garden and pick the herbs intuitively, leaving an offering of tobacco or oregano for permission. • An outdoor space • Optionally, copal incense and mezcal

The herbs are used to absorb and transmute the negative energies. The bundle is not like a traditional herbal bundle you purchase from a store. In fact, it is more akin to a bouquet. You may make it as simple or ornate as you like. I typically tie my bundle together with a red ribbon. You beat the client with the bundle, and not lightly may I add. You beat them all over their body with the bundle, head to toe; front and back, as if you are brushing all the negativity out of their aura and body. You may say a small limpia prayer or mantra during this process, or simply enjoy the silence. The intention of this is to bring the spirit back to their body.

Sacred copal is used to purify the mind, body, and spirit. The white smoke of copal perfectly captures its purpose: to turn bad into good; to replenish; to cleanse. It has been used for thousands of years, and should be treated with respect and reverence. Source it ethically, and, if you can you should collect it yourself.

Mezcal alcohol is an alcohol derived from the agave plant. It is grounding. Therefore, it aids in returning the spirit back to the body. It also aids in cleansing and purifying the body. It is typically sprayed from the mouth of the curandero onto the heart, head, abdomen, and appendages. It is an intimate practice. Typically you spray it under their shirt, with permission of course.

And finally, gratitude. The curandero must give thanks throughout the limpia. Give thanks to mother earth and father sky. Give thanks to the ancestors. Give thanks to the allies and tools that aided in the limpia. Give thanks to God, Jesus, and Mary. The participant must give thanks too, often by giving a small gift to the curandero such as copal, tobacco, or mezcal.

Remember, curanderismo is healing magic. Do not treat it as anything else.
