Unforgiving Current, Unforgetting Moon
At 14, Regulus Black made an unexpected friend in Remus Lupin.
At 16, losing Remus almost hurt worse than losing Sirius.
at 18, He hopes he hasn't burned that bridge completely to ashes.
Or where Regulus and Remus become friends in Hogwarts, have a falling out when reg takes the dark mark, and then meet again and fake their deaths to go horcrux hunting together during the war.
Prologue
Remus Lupin is dead.
Sirius barely registers the words as Moody announces them to the room. He's sure he heard wrong because that's just-that's- that's not right. Remus? His Remus? No. He saw Moony last week. When he'd left to spend the moon with the pack. Moony was running a few days late, but he promised Sirius he would return. He promised. And Moony doesn't break his promises. Not his Moony.
Remus Lupin is dead.
James feels his heart stutter in his chest. He knows it's a lie. It has to be. It has to, because his heart, after its brief moment there, is now pounding. And If his heart is still beating, then so is Remus', because there's no Prongs without Moony. Because if Peter's down the table, breathing heavily, then Remus must still be breathing, because there's no Wormtail without Moony. Because if Sirius is across from him, shaking his head frantically, eyebrows furrowed, then Remus must still be able to move his own body, because there wouldn't be padfoot without Moony.
Remus Lupin is dead.
Lily takes a sharp breath in, waiting for Dumbledore to tell them that Moody's just playing a cruel joke. She brings a hand to the small bump on her belly. No. Her best friend isn't dead, because he's going to be the other godfather. Because-because she and James haven't even gotten the chance to ask Remus and Sirius yet.
Remus Lupin is dead.
Peter breaks out in a sweat. Because there's no traitor without Remus. He's spent too long meticulously putting together the details, planting suspicion. Without Remus, there is still a spy. But there isn't anyone else to take the fall for Peter's betrayal, except the rat himself.
Remus Lupin is dead.
But that can't be true, because- because it's just not.

thinking about horror film au marauders.. (tw. lotta gore)
lily the nerdy, bossy character that comes out with a giant axe and brutally beats up the killer/s to the shock of every other character
peter is either the bargaining character that tries to bargain and give the killer/s what they want just as he's about to die. or the character secretly on the killer's side that's revealed at the end
definitely giving wolfstar the making out whilst a killer is in their house/car/woods
mary, dorcas, remus, and lily all turning to each other wondering which of them is gonna die first, when they realise they're basically in a horror film cause of the black character dying first trope (i watched the blackening yesterday and the tagline "we can't all die first" gave me this hc. very good film. highly recommend)
sirius is the resident horror film expert that tells them what the killer usually does next (im imagining someone dying and everyone is just screaming over the dying body and sirius is also screaming but then adds in "this is exactly like that scene in wrong turn!"
the screamers are probably mary, remus, and james. not a definite though. i can see it being other people.
marlene gets the most jump scare scenes and emmeline gets the most hearing creaking and footsteps
james is the best at fighting but absolutely hates blood. feel like there needs to be a scene where he's like punching a masked killer and is doing SO WELL. and he gets the killer on the ground and is about to pull the mask off when the killer pulls out a knife and stabs at his hands and chest and shit. and he just screams and backs away staring at his blood until he faints.
as marlene dies, she clutches dorcas' hand and whispers "the lesbians never get a happy ending. apart from fear street... why couldn’t this be like fear street?"
the final girl HAS to be mary. ofc.
#im very much a satire horror fan. in case you couldn’t tell from this.#gonna explain how everyone dies (other than mary) in the tags cause im having ideas now i thought i was finished#idk the order so this is random and not at all chronological#remus- is high as fuck. thinks sirius or james is pranking him and then gets stabbed or whatever#sirius- tries to out horror the killer. tips a bucket of fake blood on them. has a chainsaw and mask#has a bunch of recording devices with sounds he previously made. etc. but then his fucking phone goes off#and he gets so annoyed because thats such a rookie mistake. and he asks to cut and do a retake just before the killer kills him#marlene- kinda already said about her death. but feel like it's def outside like in the street and shes only with dorcas#i already said james' death#lily- feel like there's more than one killer and she manages to kill one. just to turn around and another to get her#dorcas- she gets VERY into it once marlene dies. definitely gets hits in if not killing some of the killers.#but they ultimately get stabbed a lot and they run to marlene's body whilst bleeding out instead of the hospital#and she dies in marlene's dead grasp.#emmeline doesn't get killed for a while. is bait in a plan to catch killer/s but the plan goes wrong and she gets pushed out a high window#i havent mentioned other characters but why not say their deaths.#regulus- he's made to be involved with like a scene in a library where they go to him to ask about some secret history of the town#and then is killed the next day but has s bunch of writings and pages of books around his room about the killers and hes solved it#but the killer burns it all before anyone gets there#pandora- kinda want her to the first death for some reason idk.. like it gets framed as a suicide but so many people dont believe it#and the killings go on#barty- sees the masked killer and like jokes around touching their mask and stuff. and then the killer just like. brings out an axe#and chops his head off#evan- dont know why but im imagining him driving and getting those spikes in the road to lure him out the car#also btw didn't mention peter's death cause im leaning towards him being secretly one of the killers#and gets killed by either lily or dorcas#was gonna say barty and evan could be killers then i realised i made them kill reg and pandora and cas so people would not like that#also no mary death obviously since shes the final girl. survivor ever <3 immortal <3#marauders era#marauders#tw. gore

After my little rant earlier, I was thinking about it about more and I’ve just had the thought that some people like to erase the fact that Regulus CANONICALLY changed his mind.
In canon, we know so little about Regulus. We know he is Sirius’ younger brother, Walburga and Orions son, Bellatrix, Narcissa and Andromedas younger cousin. We know that he became a death eater at the age of 16. We know that he was quite close with Kreacher, or had some sort of special bond with him. We know that at 17 or 18 in 1979 he made the decision to GO AGAINST VOLDEMORT. We know that he CANONICALLY chose to go to the cave, with the knowledge of what Voldemort had done, we know that he knew about the horcrux, he CANONICALLY, again, CANONICALLY, sacrificed his life to try and stop Voldemort.
“Oh but he only did it because Voldemort hurt his house elf.” Shut the fuck up, yes that may have been a contending reason but we don’t actually know his reasonings for anything. He could have been having doubts since the very beginning, he could have been disgusted with what happened with Kreacher, he could have done nothing after that, but no he went on to research, he discovered Voldemort had made a horcrux, he could have DONE NOTHING BUT HE DIDNT.
We know so LITTLE about Regulus Black but the biggest thing we know about him, the most important thing we know about him is that at the end of his life he changed his mind, KREACHER EVEN SAYS ITS “Master Regulus changed his mind, but he doesn’t seem to have explained that to Kreacher, does he?” LIKE OMG HE CHANGED HIS MIND. He didn’t want to be a death eater anymore. HE CHANGED HIS MIND AND THEN DID SOMETHING ABOUT WHAT HE DISCOVERED. He went to that fucking cave, drank the drink of despair, stole the horcrux, replaced it with a fake and then ordered Kreacher to destroy it, to leave without him.
Yes, this was a suicide mission, we all know that but at the end of the day, Regulus sacrificed his life in an attempt to to destroy a horcrux, to stop Voldemort. People are always forgetting that, and I’m so over it.
If you want to call me pro-fascist for supporting Regulus when canonically he betrayed Voldemort than for fuck sake do it, it doesn’t change the fact that I am not, that Regulus actively worked against the dark lord JUST LIKE JAMES OR SIRIUS OR REMUS, etc. I will always love Regulus no matter what and I don’t give a shit what names you call me because I know the truth, I know who I am, I know that you are just trying to put me down in an attempt to make yourself seem better.
PEOPLE ALSO SEEM TO FORGET THAT REGULUS AND SIRIUS GREW UP IN THE SAME HOUSE. Sirius had a support system, CANONICALLY, Regulus did not.
Anyway… I rest my case.

I love the idea of a Trans Regulus AU (ftm) where he fakes his death and transitions while everyone mourns him, only for the marauders to randomly see him somewhere like the place he works a few years later. Imagine the confrontation
Regulus : *deer in headlights*
Sirius : *absolute disbelief*
Remus :*shocked and mildly impressed that Regulus pulled off smth like this*
Peter : *confused*
James : *brain rebooting as he stares at Regulus, practically drooling*

Tumblr media
chapter eighteen
summary: it was only meant to be a purely transactional relationship. he would help her strengthen her abilities in return for her getting his friends out of his father's nasty path. he didn't mean to fall for her, but loving her was the easiest thing in his dark world.
no use of y/n, but your general nickname is Meadow. all characters are aged up to be over 18.
pairings: mattheo riddle x fem!ravenclaw reader; platonic!slytherins x fem!reader; platonic!golden trio x fem!reader
warning(s): angst, very little fluff (its there but barely!), canonical death, canonical violence, nightmare trope!, mentions of anxiety and allusion to a panic attack
series masterlist; previous part; next part

"Sirius had a brother-" you whisper, your voice betraying your sadness at the thought of the eccentric man.
"Yes. His name was Regulus Black."
"Regulus Black?" Enzo mumbles to himself, as if he was testing the name on his tongue.
"He was Slytherin's star seeker in the seventies." Blaise said in barely restrained awe. "People said that he was an enigma. Always quiet and observing."
"That is a bona fide assessment of my cousin." Andromeda's low voice sounded from the doorway, the head of her husband visible in the room behind where she stood. "He was always calculating something in that brilliant brain of his."
The smile on her face is as reminiscent as it is stricken with grief. Remus turns to her with the same look simmering in his chocolate irises.
"I don't understand." Pansy says quietly. "My father always said that he was enthusiastic about being a Death Eater. Him and his friends. That Voldemort trusted him implicitly. And you're saying he was spy the whole time?"
"That was the whole point of his undercover work." Remus mused with a grim look. "He was so trusted by Voldemort that he didn't even suspect that Regulus might be the one threatening to unravel all of his intricate work."
"If you knew of the horcruxes during the first war, why isn't it a widely known thing now?" Mattheo's deep rasp travels through you like silky butter, sending a shiver down your spine.
"Because we didn't implicitly know what Regulus was searching for. Not until Dumbledore told us of what he and Harry discovered in light of what happened when you," He looked pointedly in your direction, "reacted the way you did to the dark magic swimming in Miss Bell's veins. Every time Regulus would try, his Mark burned. None of us knew just how detrimental his searching was."
"But he succeeded, didn't he? If he found the one you say was a fake." Enzo asked your old professor, eyes alight with curiosity.
"There's more than one." Mattheo says, surprising you all, except Andromeda, who looks as if this information too wasn't new. "Several actually. There was my father's old diary, the ring, this locket-"
He pauses, head swimming with thoughts of the many possibilities.
"Nagini was always whispering about it in the years she'd turn up at Theo's home to torment me. But she always spoke in riddles. There could be more, there probably is more but I don't know what they could be. Something significant to my father, though."
"But how do they work?" Pansy asks, looking between Mattheo and the adults.
"He murdered innocent people to split his soul." Mattheo says resentfully. And though his face is expressionless, you read his shame as if it was there, clear as day.
"So that's how he survived? He severed his soul and tethered himself to the Earth?" Theo's head was slightly tilted to the side, eyes alight with curiosity.
The thought alone sends a wave of colossal dread through you all.
"We believe so, yes. But knowing just how many there are will be crucial if we are to win this war." Andromeda said quietly, before her husband entered the room with a bright smile, despite the stale tension that permeated the air of the tiny kitchen.
"Ready to go, love?" He questions his wife, voice laden with a love that hadn't faded in the years that you'd known the couple through your parents.
"Yes, dear." She mumbles, her hard exterior crumbling from her face for only a split second before the mask has slipped back into place. Ted kisses his wife on the cheek before gently moving her out of the way of the door frame where he comes to being you into a brief hug. One that you fall into without hesitation.
"Will you be alright out here on your own?" He asks you quietly and you nod your head, which is nestled on his shoulder.
"I'll be fine, Ted. Don't worry about me." Please be safe! Your mind is screaming the notion into existence.
Ted is in far more danger than you will ever be; not only was he a muggleborn, but Andromeda had a long list of estranged family members who would not bat an eyelid if Ted Tonks suddenly disappeared. In fact, they'd probably rejoice over his death, before making a martyr out of Andromeda.
He smiles at you in understanding, as if he knows what you don't voice out loud, before he turns you around so that you're both looking out of one of the kitchen windows.
"Just down that hill, about two miles away is a quaint little village. There's a café that is also a bookshop. I think you'd like it there if it ever gets too crowded here."
"Thank you." You say with a grin and he gives you a friendly squeeze before he makes his way back to his wife, who smiles softly at the two of you.
"I'll visit in a few weeks, to see if everything is still standing." Andromeda says, the ghost of a smirk lining her face as she looks between you and your usually raucous friends. Blaise and Enzo share conspiratorial looks, mischief gleaming in their eyes.
"I'll come back in a week with your first assignment. Give you all a chance to settle in." Remus says, nodding at the three newly anointed Order spies, which sobers the mischief, before he too bids farewell.
With a loud crack, they're gone.
~∞~
The following weeks were certainly odd, to say the least. It was almost like the six of you were on a neverending holiday on some days, spending your days roaming the little muggle village, but then on other days, reality would come crashing down, reminding all of you what was at stake.
It was usually Remus who delivered their assignments; it was always Remus who came once you sent your patronus to Headquarters alerting them of the boys' safe return.
About a month in, he'd arrived with Kingsley Shacklebolt, who had eyed you all with barely restrained mistrust as Remus delivered the brief: find out where Charity Burbage was being held captive and do it quickly and carefully. Luckily there was a meeting scheduled for the end of that week that the boys were expected to attend.
They had left within minutes of briefing them and with a crack, Mattheo, Theo and Enzo had left for Malfoy Manor, leaving you, Blaise and Pansy to occupy yourselves in the meantime.
Hours later, after trying to stomach a lacklustre dinner amidst your shared anxieties, the three of you are huddled together in the living room, chatting quietly about the books you were reading, when the mistakable crack of apparition sounded in the silence of night, then three loud knocks branded the front door.
Blaise took it upon himself to see who it was, and upon seeing their sullen faces, let the three boys in.
Immediately you can tell that something bad has happened.
Enzo doesn't bother greeting the three of you like he normally does as he storms off upstairs to his room; Theo heads straight for the garden door, a pack of cigarettes already in his possession and Mattheo looks positively murderous.
Blaise and Pansy seem to come to an understanding and they go in opposite directions, towards where Theo and Enzo disappeared to, leaving you and Mattheo alone. He doesn't even look like he's present in the moment and your heart aches for him.
"Théo?" You ask, voice barely louder than a whisper. But it knocks him from his stupor as he takes hold of your hand in his, soft against his angry callouses. "Lets go upstairs."
He agrees gruffly, voice low and rough, eyes shining with the onslaught on unshed tears.
Slowly the two of you make your way to the bedroom you share, silence engulfing the two of you, leaving only the sound of your breathing to fill the space. When you enter the room, Mattheo practically collapses onto the bed, body spent from the sheer exhaustion of the evening.
"What happened?" You ask softly, sitting against the headboard and guiding his head into your lap. Mattheo keens into you as you run gentle hands through his unruly hair.
The tears flow shortly after you start and your heart breaks for him.
"She's dead." He says, his voice raspy, catching in his throat. "Professor Burbage is dead."
Your breath hitches in your throat as your eyes fill with tears. Professor Burbage was sunshine personified. She always had a smile on her face despite what the Purebloods said about her affliction to muggle culture. She was beloved by all the muggleborns and the staff; was one of Dumbledore's favourites. And she was a valued member of The Orderof the Pheonix, as an emissary to the muggle authorities. She was a valuable member. Now she was gone.
"H-how did she die?" You whisper hesitantly, for you don't know if the closure of knowing would be worth it.
"My father-" Mattheo shuddered. "He set Nagini on her. He didn't even give her the mercy of a quick death."
Whenever his eyes blink shut, he can see the terror behind the teary eyes of the Professor as she stared between the four boys and Severus Snape while Nagini slithered towards her suspended body. He sees the way her eyes fill with dread as no one comes to her aid. Can see the moment of acceptance as her cries suddenly dull to a staggering silence.
He fears that he won't ever sleep peacefully again. The only saving grace is that you'll never have to witness something like it, if he has his way.
"Gods." You say in disbelief, and you hold onto Mattheo a little tighter at the thought. "We need to tell Remus."
"Not yet." He says and he abruptly sits up from his place.
"Why not? He asked you to find out what happened to her. He needs to know." You argue, but you can already see his stubbornness take effect.
"I said not yet." He retorts with anger painting his features. Your brows furrow in offence. He hadn't spoken to you in such a manner in months.
But you can see how his entire resolve has continued to crumble from the moment he stepped over the threshold. Sp instead of arguing back like you want to, for the sake of getting the information to Remus, you agree and wordlessly huide his head to rest in your lap once again.
"Okay. But as soon as we wake in the morning, I'm going to tell him."
Mattheo mumbles his response into the fabric of your leggings, eyes fluttering shut at the feeling of your fingers brushing through his hair, lightly scratching at his scalp.
He falls into a light sleep and you're content to fall asleep sat up with him, as long as he was peaceful.
~∞~
He's back there again.
In the seat at the right hand side of his father. When the three of them had arrived at Malfoy Manor for the meeting, Mattheo could feel an unmistakable shift in the air.
The way his father's face twisted into a sinister smirk made his insides curl in dreaded anticipation.
"My loyal followers!" He says, arms outstretched as he addressed the sea of Death Eaters who were watching their master in rapt attention. "I have a special treat for you all tonight."
The feeling of dread made Mattheo's stomach drop even further. He didn't need to look to see that Theo, Enzo and Draco felt the same sense of foreboding.
Voldemort wanders around the table, stopping behind where Lucius was sat, before he snatches the wizard's wand from the table with a deadly snicker of a laugh. Draco does not look at his father's humiliated expression.
"I have brought you all a little...gift of sorts."
With a flourish of Lucius' wand, and to Mattheo's utter horror, Charity Burbage appears in front of their very eyes, arms and legs bound together with a brutal looking rope and mouth magically gagged shut.
He feels sick.
He barely hears as his father mocks her, telling the Death Eaters that she was encouraging young wizards and witches to mate with Muggles, thus polluting the Wizarding World with more Halfbloods and Muggleborns all while she cannot defend herself or ask those she recognises for help.
All Mattheo can comprend is that Nagini has found her way towards her dangling prey and Charity's magically bound gag has been removed.
"Severus.." her pleading eyes fall on her old old. "Please! Help me!"
Snape's eyes have not moved from a spot on the wall behind her flailing body. They don't move from that spot as Nagini prepares to strike.
Mattheo grips the arm rests of his seat as he stares blankly ahead, the sounds of his Professor's shrieks and painful screams as her flesh is torn apart is all his can hear.
And then her screams turn into a familiar tone; instead of his Professor, it's you who is suspended above the snake. Your horrifying screams permeate every corner of his skull until its all he can hear.
You're begging him to help you, but he cannot move. His limbs are glued to his seat as his father laughs manically at your expense.
His mind won't even grant him to ability to block it out. Your screams are all he can hear until his father finally utters the killing blow.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Your body drops to a heap on the floor. And then, Nagini feasts.
Mattheo wakes with a start, only to be met by your wary face staring down at him. Gods he feels like he can't breathe.
"I know. I know." He hears your reassurance as clear as day, but he can't breathe.
You place one of his clammy feeling hands against your chest, where your heart beats calmly despite the gravity of the situation. He feels the way you exaggerate your breathing, hoping he can follow.
He does so and eventually he calms down enough to wipe the sweat from his hands and his forehead.
"You're okay. Your safe." You're still holding his hand to your chest, thumb stroking over the small scars that litter his knuckles.
"It was you." He mumbles breathlessly, tears falling from his onyx eyes. "You were in her place and I did nothing to save you. I couldn't save you."
Your heart breaks for him.
"Oh love." You whisper, pulling his body into your's and wrapping him into a tight hug. "I'm here and I'm safe. I'm not going anywhere."
"It felt so real." He says into the skin of your neck, his hot breath fanning iver your sensitive skin.
"It wasn't real, Mattheo." You reaffirm, moving so that your hands cradled both sides of his face, your eyes meeting his. "It was only a dream. I'm not going anywhere."
"You promise?" He hated that he sounded so weak...so vulnerable. But he could always be himself around you, could always count on you to make him feel anything but empty and numb.
"I promise you, Mattheo Riddle." you say, your lips tilting up with a slight smile that he mirrors. You press a light kiss to his chapped lips which he reciprocates in earnest.
Your souls ignite as one and it feels as if a weight has simultaneously been placed and lifted on your shoulders all at once.
Remus would be alerted in the next few hours, but for now, Mattheo let you guide him to a lying position where he layed safely in your arms.
He did not dream of your screams for the rest of the night, but it would haunt him for the rest of his life. That he was certain of.
~∞~
this one is so so so short but i've actually taken so long to get this one written up
also from this point theres just a whole lot of angst (just a little prewarning🫡)

Prompt: death 09/10/24 @wolfstarmicrofic
Word count: 650
Sirius eyed the envelope warily, Remus had been gone for months now. He had been sent on a mission not long after their wedding. It wasn't a legal one, but it was all the same to Sirius. Slip of paper signed or not, all their close friends knew that he was a Lupin now, and that's what mattered - not government bodies or his higher ups at the order but who cared for them.
Before they'd gotten married, but after they'd joined the order, Sirius and Remus sat down and wrote a letter together. Just in case letters. They'd gotten the idea from Lily and James who'd done the same, something for the other to cherish if the other didn't come back one day.
Remus had been MIA for four months now.
Presumed dead.
Sirius didn't want to believe it.
The mission was only supposed to last a week, infiltrate and spy on werewolf colonies up north. Nothing to do with greyback or voldemort, just Intel.
"You don't have to open it." Sirius looked across the table, and Regulus was sat there toying the edges of the envelope. He shouldn't have been there. He was missing as well. But Sirius had started seeing people he shouldn't see not long after Remus left, like his sanity had walked out the door with him.
"He's not dead," Sirius whispered, not even wanting to entertain the thought. Like it was unfathomable for Remus to die, not after everything they'd been, though. Sirius toyed with his wedding ring. It was wooden because after paying for the flat, they couldn't afford much better from the inheritance Alphard had left.
"What is death anyway, Si?" Fake Regulus mused, still dancing around the pristine envelope. It hadn't even had the time to yellow and wither. "I'm dead, aren't I?" He smiled and pushed the letter towards Sirius.
Sirius shook his head hard. "You're not dead... you're just missing, like Remus is, " he murmured, picking the envelope up from the table. He bit the bullet and opened it, his eyes refusing to read the words. As if if he didn't read them Remus couldn't possibly be dead. As long as the letter was unread, he was still alive.
Sirius.
If you're reading this, I'm probably dead... or maybe sat with you in twenty years' time with a fat glass of red, and we're laughing over our cringe worthy confessions from when we were young and at war. Hopefully, that. Enjoy the wine future me. I hope you wrote something funny. You probably wrote a joke or something to cheer me up even if you're dead.
I hope we got married, and went on a honeymoon somewhere nice... maybe Greece or something. I think I'd like Greece.
I hope James and Lily managed to have a kid, James always wanted to be a dad.
I hope I got to meet my neice or nephew, James was always like a brother to me. Make sure he knows that.
I hope you'll be okay without me, Sirius.
Don't bury me, I don't like the idea of being under all that dirt and being walked all over. Maybe give me a viking funeral or something cool like that. My body and all my prized possessions burnt and pushed out to sea, off that nice quiet beach where I grew up. That's what I want.
I love you. Now, forever and always.
Watching over you,
Remus J.  Lupin (but maybe it'll be Black by the time you read this, I hope so)
When Sirius looked up again, tears swelling in his eyes and a stubborn lump in his throat. There at the table, smiling sweetly was Remus in Regulus' place.
"You're never really apart from those you love im right here," he spoke, jabbing a finger into Sirius' chest over his heart. It felt so real. But his voice was wrong. Sirius couldn't even remember what it was supposed to sound like anymore.

Family is most important
Summary: Regulus and Y/n faked their deaths in the first wizarding war to run away from everything, they got married and had a daughter. Even though both are slightly sceptical, they send her to Hogwarts, as she wanted it real bad. The moment they find out about the battle of Hogwarts, they rush over there, though are late as Voldermort is already defeated.
She/her pronounce
Just so you know: Sirius, Tonks, Remus and Fred are alive. Y/n was very, wry good friends with the Marauders because she, Peter and James where childhood friends, the daughters name is Aruna.
Warnings: cringe
Some people looked over their shoulder to see what was going on when the doors of the great hall flew open, though minded their business again as the man and woman walked in.
One of these people, was Aruna, who’s eyes widened as she saw her parents, they didn’t have any disguise and looked absolutely distressed.
Her mothers eyes landed on her and she broke out into a run. She felt her mothers arms wrap around her and her dad followed soon after.
Y/n had been worried sick for her daughters well being the moment she heard of the battle. She had dragged Regulus with her and they hurried to the castle where they found Voldemort already defeated.
“Oh, love, I was so scared of your well being! Are you hurt?” Y/n checked her daughter for injustices as the girl assured her mother she was completely fine.
By now, few of her friends watched what was happening in, as they had never met Aruna’s parents. “Did you kill some own?” Regulus smirked slightly and Y/n angrily hit his arm.
“Regulus!” She scolded. “Did you?” She asked the girl worried. “No, I didn’t kill someone, mom, I’m fine, everything is alright.” She pushed her mother away slightly and backed up.
Y/n looked at the people behind her daughter and smiled. “You must be Aruna’s friends.” She said happily and her eyes fell on a girl. “Ah! Luna, lovely to see you dear.” She smiled at the girl from who she had known the mother very well.
“Hi, aunty Y/n, uncle Regulus.” She greeted with a smile. “Mom dad, this is Hermione Granger, Ginny, Ron, Fred and George Weasley, and that’s Neville Longbottom, guys meet my parents- Uhm.” She seemed to scan her brain for quick fake names but the two smiled.
“Y/n and Regulus Black, nice to meet you.” Y/n introduced. “Fred Weasley huh?” Regulus’ eyes had fallen in the boy that they knew to be their daughters boyfriend. “Regulus, be nice.” Y/n quickly scolded.
Aruna looked at them in disbelief and they smiled slightly. “Well, wat is over, Voldermort is defeated and we do not really have to worry about much anymore, we can’t live under fake names forever, besides, Aruna Black sounds way better then Aruna Du Boyz.” Regulus shrugged.
“I don’t want to be rude, but this all is going way to fast for me.” Ginny intervened.
“Reg, Y/n?” They turned around at the familiar voice and where met with Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, next to them stood a boy that was obviously Harry. “You’re alive.” Sirius said looking between the both of them.
“Surprise?” Y/n tried and Regulus gave her an exhausted look. “Let him process for a moment, love.” He said and she smiled sheepishly.
“Yeah, well, my hands are aching and it’s been how long now? Twenty years? I really, really want to hug them!” She whined and before she knew it, she shot forward and hugged Remus tightly and Sirius wend forward and embraced his brother.
“You two have a bunch of explaining to do.” Sirius said and the two of them slightly grinned.

James Potter Headcanons
Pansexual
He/him and they/them pronouns
Animagus is a deer
Latino and always speaks in fast Spanish when angry or excited and it’s so amusing to watch
Never studies yet somehow gets amazing grades and results in exams
Had severe ADHD and sometimes forgets to take his medication so Marlene always reminds him, and sometimes when she isn’t there, Barty notices it and gives subtle nudges to James, and when James looks at him he sees him holding out his medication. He never forgot, no matter what, and James will always be grateful
Used to be childhood friends with Marlene and Barty
Was forced to stop talking to barty because of how different they were, even though his parents wanted him to come back since they missed him
When he started dating regulus, he was forced to start talking with barty again, and they had a weird moment where they stared into each others eyes and cried silently, before hugging and then acting like nothing happened the next day.
he was obsessed with the idea of lily but not her as a person, especially because his parents expected them to be together so the pressure got to his head, but after meeting regulus he began to fall in love
james is a people-pleaser so he never really opens up and nobody has ever seen him breakdown other then barty, marlene, remus, and regulus
the first time james cried in front of sirius was when they found out regulus died. sirius was so shocked at his reaction that he began to cry harder and cradled james in his arms
he misses barty to death
has obvious bipolar disorder but he’s in denial, remus agreed not to tell anyone yet
james never opens up to anyone since he thinks his job is to make everyone happy. for some reason, barty and regulus (slytherins) were the only ones who were there for him and understood him in such a deep level
people would come to him for therapy, venting, help, advice, etc. but he never had anyone there for him
people called him egotistical and cocky but in reality it’s just a facade to seem cool because he never really liked who he truly was
pretty good actor, his friends never caught on to his fake behavior, but when remus, regulus, and marlene did, (barty did to, he just didn’t talk about it, he only gave silent nudges to let james know he’s right there.) they tried their best to comfort him.
NAPS, loves naps
if one light is on he CANNOT sleep
broken multiple pairs of glasses after falling asleep in them
him and sirius are like brothers, but that breaks his heart because of regulus
mamas boy
mcgonagall has a soft spot for him
a hugger, seriously so touchy he sometimes gets super insecure bc he’s worried ppl will be annoyed. the only people who encouraged this was the marauders + marlene (barty wasn’t a big toucher himself but he would comfort james with humor if he asked)
ruffles everyone’s hair
natural leader, sometimes overthinks and begins to worry that he’s using people and ordering them around bossily
he loves everyone so fucking much and he’s indecisive as fuck
he sings in the shower
he has a diary that he writes in with a glittery gel pen

remember that last writing prompt?
I've got another one.
So before Regulus faked his death and ran away to Marseille in France, he was a prince but a shadow of his brother, Sirius, who was the heir. But despite that, he still attended the meetings that Sirius was supposed to be in because he was too "busy", probably with that servant covered in scars.
Sirius mentioned that his name was Remus...or something similar like that...
And Reg immediately thought that this servant was a rebel, as his scars and bruised body were evident.
After he faked his death?
Obviously he caused a riot before he actually managed to capture Remus and recruit him.

The Ginny and Peter parallel though?? How have I never thought about that?? It‘s so horrifying and insanely compelling to me at the same time. I would love to hear (read?) you elaborate on that.
"Sirius, Sirius, what could I have done? The Dark Lord… you have no idea… he has weapons you can't imagine…. I was scared, Sirius, I was never brave like you and Remus and James. I never meant it to happen…. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named forced me - " "Harry – oh, Harry – I tried to tell you at b-breakfast, but I c-couldn’t say it in front of Percy. It was me, Harry – but I – I s-swear I d-didn’t mean to  - R-Riddle made me, he took me over..."
thank you so much for this question anon.  i have been thinking about this for a long time - about how ginny weasley might have made a really, really good traitor - and would love to talk more about my thinking behind it. a little meta on traitor talk - who flips, and why, and why ginny weasley might be the peter pettigrew to the trio's marauders after all - can be found below the cut (with spoilers for beasts chapter 14).
hp, as a series, puts great moral emphasis on the concept of choice. after all, it’s about a world at war, where the question of whose side you're on is often a matter of life or death. double agents, deception, treachery, people serving the interests of others (either consensually or under duress): these are recurrent tropes, on both sides of the wizarding war. the plot begins the ultimate act of betrayal - that of lily and james potter by peter pettigrew - and the series concludes with the revelation of another (snape). throughout the books, there are all sorts of characters who spy, or flip, for all sorts of reasons. you have those who knowingly pretend to be serving the interests of one side when actually serving another, for principled reasons, either ideological motivation or out of selfless loyalty to another person: snape, peter, likely rookwood, quirrell, fake moody/barty crouch jr, both sirius and regulus black, kreacher, and narcissa in the forest. and then you have the group who betray either out of fear, or who are manipulated into acts of betrayal and deceit, sometimes through possession but otherwise through blackmail and intimidation, to varying degrees: xenophilius lovegood, mundungus fletcher, pius thicknesse, marietta edgecombe, bertha jorkins, bathilda bagshot, those types. (in a sign of jkr’s consistently dicked-up biases re gender in the series, women are never allowed to be interesting enough to actively betray anyone unless they’re doing it out of maternal love eg. narcissa - they can only ever actively be led astray or hoodwinked, whereas male characters can have a vast array of complex motivations and all sorts of shades of moral grey. we'll come back to that in a minute).
in chapter 14 of my postwar fic beasts, during the course of the hogwarts inquiry, augustus rookwood takes the stand and testifies of an attempt by him and his fellow death eaters to find someone who could play double agent to pass secrets about the resistance, the order and harry to the other side during the second wizarding war. rookwood - himself a former double agent - talks about how to make a traitor. he discusses the different motivations of traitors, how to find a target and how to exploit their existing vulnerabilities and weak-points to get them to come around to your side. he also reveals that, during the death eater seizure of the ministry and hogwarts school, he and his peers identified a would-be target in ginny weasley. in the fic, i have him describe the process of traitor-identification as ‘the pettigrew playbook’: finding someone who is connected, who knows the order’s secrets, who has the information you want, and who will flip less out of an ardent ideological commitment, but more because they are weak and scared but also disrespected and resentful and more inclined to save their own neck than act out of loyalty
i’ve always been very struck by peter pettigrew’s attempts to justify his betrayal of lily and james in PoA (see above). peter pettigrew is always a slippery and elusive character, rendered mostly through other people’s memories or descriptions of him. this is one of the very few times he explains something of his own worldview - though, as we know he is a liar, and in this instance errrr trying to save his own life as sirius threatens to kill him (slay), we have to take even these lines with a pinch of salt. we know pettigrew is a character that acts, at all times, out of a desire for self-preservation, trying to secure his own survival. he was tolerated but never respected by his schoolfriends, made the potters’ secret keeper as a ‘perfect bluff’ because he was a  ‘weak, talentless thing’ voldemort would never bother going after, a trait which ultimately made him the perfect and most vulnerable target. when outed as the real spy by sirius and remus here, he acknowledges he is aware of his deficiencies and weaknesses, and talks about his fear for his own life, his sense of how he did not live up to the principled bravery of his friends, and claims  that voldemort ‘forced him’ to surrender lily and james - presumably through the threat of terrible violence, suffering and death.
pettigrew’s remarks are particularly interesting when put alongside the justifications and excuses of another character who has betrayed harry to voldemort, albeit under very different circumstances. like peter, ginny’s confession is given through floods of tears as a desperate plea to be believed and excused. in it, ginny begs harry to understand her own lack of culpability. just as wormtail does, she insists to harry she was forced by riddle to cause harm to others and to hand information about harry over to riddle, and to play an integral role in returning lord voldemort to life.  of course, the series always frames ginny’s actions in CoS as the behaviour of an entirely innocent person. but even these lines show a streak of self-preservation and a certain amount of weakness and cowardice that runs throughout ginny’s encounter with the diary. ‘I couldn’t say it in front of Percy’, she says, suggesting she feared getting in deep trouble with no proof of riddle’s hand in her actions. in fact throughout the diary episode, ginny shows real moments of acting to save herself rather than do the right thing and come forward with the truth. she tries to dispose of the diary, but doesn’t go to a teacher about what it has been making her do. she stole the diary back not to protect harry but to protect her own secrets and prevent him from discovering her complicity (at least by TMR’s telling). she even watches hagrid get falsely accused and sent to azkaban, and stays silent in the process, a distinctly pettigrew echo if ever i heard one.
of course, we know ginny and peter pettigrew’s relationships with voldemort are not alike in dignity. it’s clear that, in so many ways, ginny’s encounter with the diary is much more clearly an experience of victimhood than of malicious intent. we know that ginny was possessed; we know she is not a character who would commit murder without that level of involuntary mental surrender. but there are more uncomfortable echoes of pettigrew in her experiences in CoS. we see them in the decisions of a character acting of fear and a desire to save their own skin in ginny’s experience of the diary than we might like to think. ginny ofc was targeted by lucius malfoy because of who her family was, as stalwarts of the anti-voldemort pro-muggle resistance during the first wizarding war, with powerful enemies determined to discredit and undermine them at every turn. but, as TMR makes clear, what makes ginny such a good target in the end, so vulnerable and so useful, was that she was weak. she was insecure, and lonely, teased and misunderstood and feeling inadequate. in all of that, there was a very rich opening for TMR to access her innermost fears and secrets and to use them to manipulate, pressure and threaten her into compliance, in addition to the active possession of her body to conduct deliberate acts of attempted murder. it’s not a perfect pettigrew parallel by any means. but there’s more than a little bit of pettigrew in that, too.
maybe more parallels with ginny and peter pettigrew than meets the eye - particularly in ginny’s relationship to the trio. there are a few posts that periodically do the rounds on tumblr and reddit that talk about neville’s relationship to the trio as the parallel to peter pettigrew’s with the marauders - as this post compellingly puts it, ‘all who peter could have been’. neville, these posts usually point out, was a character who was weak and much less talented than his friends, an outsider who needed the protection and patience of cooler classmates, who was always on the outside looking in on a friend group that largely excluded him. what distinguished neville from peter was his approach to his own weakness, and how that approach drove him to heroism rather than betrayal and villainy. it’s an interesting idea, and there’s something to it. but the more i thought about it, the more i thought - is neville + the trio the only parallel with peter + the marauders? what about ginny?
it’s remarkably under-appreciated in fandom that ginny is remarkably poorly treated by the trio for much of the series. ‘go away, ginny’ - that’s how ron banishes his sister at the start of PoA, because harry mutters to his two mates that he wants to talk to them in private and to ditch ginny. neither harry nor hermione object to it - hermione, though kind to ginny when the dementors arrive, makes no defence of her right to stay. ginny duly leaves, hurt, to go sit by herself on the train back to school, returning to hogwarts for the first time after her deeply traumatic experience in the chamber, dismissed and dispatched. not meaning to drag ron here - this is, ofc, how big brothers have behaved for time immemorial, as is their wont. but it’s kind of the statement for how the trio treat ginny for much of her school career really until HBP, harry and hermione included. ofc there are many textual/plot reasons ginny needs to be held at arms length from the trio. but it is striking that the effect of this plot habit for the reader is a usually unkind and sometimes even callous exclusion of ginny by the trio throughout many of the books.
in CoS itself, ginny is never invited to join the trio or spend any time with them: when she isn’t, you know, trying her hand at possessed attempted murder, she’s doing a light bit of potter hero worship that does recall a certain lakeside snitch-catching display of yore. it’s ginny who’s left feeling left out when the trio are swapping suspicious eyes and sirius secrets in GoF, ginny who is hermione’s back-up friend when the ron and harry showdown kicks off over the triwizard tournament, ginny who shoulders the role as harry’s consolation prize friend when ron and hermione go off to the prefects on the train in ootp (and takes him to neville and luna), ginny who goes defenceless when the trio are demanding to be included in order secrets and is physically removed from the room with no protest from the others, ginny who has to fight her case to be taken seriously and included in the department of mysteries plot to rescue a man she too is friends with (‘I care about Sirius as much as you do!’), being patronised by three friends who pick her up and put her down when they feel like it (always enjoy hermione being like ‘we need three thestrals!’ and ginny being like ffs we need four why won’t you show me an ounce of respect). in fact, when ginny is revealed to be becoming popular in a different social circle throughout ootp and hbp, it is something of a shock to harry and ron, who have spent a good six years making no effort to include her and now are finding she has built a much more successful social life beyond them (you reap what you sow, lads). i don’t say this to overstate the trio’s malice nor to overstate the pettigrew comparisons (ginny is clearly both conventionally attractive and much more socially adept).. but i do think it’s striking that  if there is a character with pettigrew echoes in the trio’s surround, always orbiting the trio, trying to feel included (and hero worshipping the potter at the heart of it), it’s more often young ginny than it is neville. so many of the things that made ginny vulnerable to TMR - her loneliness, her isolation, her insecurities and sense of inadequacy - are not helped by the trio in the years afterwards, and in some cases, actively reinforced.
(to briefly say something on gender - sometimes wonder if ginny were a male character if people would have made more of this. percy stans, for instance, go to great lengths to point out all the ways percy was bullied or teased by his family as an excuse for his errrrr war crimes. would people care more about many ginny's exclusions if she were a maligned misunderstood young man? probably? it's noticeable too that all traitors in hp are men lol, a classic example of jkr’s weird and fucked feminism striking again. women are led astray or hoodwinked - men get the complex motivations and agency arcs. but i digress).
why does any of this matter? we know ginny doesn't take the path of pettigrew, however much she might have good reason to. harry's endearingly naive line in DH ('I trust all of you, I don’t think anyone in this room would ever sell me to Voldemort’) ends up being borne out: there are no betrayals during the second wizarding war, and certainly not by ginny (though the sword heist almost ended up doing it on accident). but i found myself thinking a lot about this as i was sketching out the plotline for beasts and thinking about ginny’s war, and what is asked of ginny in it. i was particularly thinking about it relation to how the second wizarding war plays out, the unique position of danger ginny would have been in as a hogwarts student in the 1997-1998 academic year, and what a good target she would make for death eaters on the hunt for a spy within the order of the phoenix.
when i was reading DH for the first time, i remember thinking that it is absolutely bonkers that ginny weasley goes back to hogwarts in september ’97. by that summer, the weasleys are the order of the phoenix. no longer just the blood traitors’ blood traitor, they’re now the face of the wizarding resistance, both parents and (nearly) all sons in active combat, something the ministry certainly knows about even when trying to normalise death eater rule and allowing the facade of arthur et al going to go to work in the ministry/gringotts etc. ginny’s family home is order hq: she lives there all summer, and trots off to the hogwarts express straight from the kitchen table where order meetings take place. when death eaters descend on the wedding, she’s there alongside the rest of the rest of dumbledore stans. she is also famously in the DA, and fought death eaters alongside the trio in the department of mysteries, and again in the battle of the astronomy tower. and then there’s the obvious point that hinny shippers everywhere have pointed out is baffling since the dawn of time, which is that the world and his wife knows that ginny weasley is harry potter’s ex, something that might put a big fat target on her head for a death eater or two to have a pop at trying to get some secrets and intel out of her.
of course, there’s a compelling case for why ginny has to go back. ron’s already used the splattergroit excuse, and arthur’s going to work, and so is bill, and the twins (at least for a bit), and the weasleys are going for normalisation and at least a fig leaf of compliance. so off ginny goes, into the belly of the beast, back to school, despite all the access she has to order secrets and intel, as well as information on harry and the trio. she is in a uniquely dangerous position of risk: it’s a fortress run by death eaters and her card is marked. she finds herself in an unenviable and unrivalled position as a very good person to go after if you’re a death eater fancying some intel about what the guerilla resistance - and harry potter - are up to. we know there are death eaters about who would like to claw themselves back into some level of relevance by working towards the big man and trying to curry favour (yaxley). we know there is a family intimately aware of ginny weasley's weakness and failings who are desperate to get back in voldemort's good books (the malfoys). we also know there are witnesses to ginny's exclusions both from the order and from the trio over the years - in particular, one witness that already sold secrets on the order to death eaters, namely kreacher.
the reason i came back to thinking about parallels between ginny and peter in beasts is because beasts is a story about ginny’s war, but also in part about morality in the wizarding world, about war and sides and choices. at various points in beasts, i’ve tried to play with ginny’s echoes with characters that waver morally - including regulus - or who find themselves drawn to or in some way embroiled in darkness, and who are at times governed by fear and cowardice and self-preservation in a moral universe that prizes bravery, loyalty, and self-sacrifice. so this plot came from putting all these pieces together - ginny's existing vulnerabilities and insecurities, her position of privilege and access, but also her alienation and mistreatment, and this interest in moral motivations and what experiences or traumas might lead a person, or even justify, a person's treachery, moral inaction, or active moral failing. it was even more interesting for me to play with the idea that other people might have noticed ginny weasley's weird position relative to the trio and the order too, people who want to know what she knows and who would be willing to exploit the cracks in those relationships for strategic wartime gain. and that's for chapters fifteen and sixteen!

Reunited Regulus Black x reader
Tumblr media
A/N: I am still taking request for any character seen on my masterlist. or most harry potter characters
Warning: Swearing, mentions of death, pregancy, fighting, mentions of suicide. It’s also not cannon,
Word count:2091
Standing in the kitchen you and Regulus are making dinner for yourselves and your daughter. She had some of her friends from Hogwarts over. Pansy Parkinson, Blaise Zabini, Enzo Berkshire, Theodore Nott and Mattheo Riddle. They all were slytherin, you went to school with most of their parents.
“Harper! Come here!” Regulus yelled, his voice echoed through the house. You heard her door open and her stomp down the stairs. Attitude was coming and you knew it.
“What?” Attitude dripped from her voice, nothing else.
“Will you run and get a carton of milk? We are almost out.” Regulus asked. Her friends walked down the stairs and thanked you for hosting their get together, but they had to leave. Harper rolled her house at Regulus. But nonetheless she agreed. Her attitude was causing a real problem.
“Thank you.” He handed her money and went back to cutting vegetables. She left and you continue to work on the chicken.
“Her attitude is a problem, you know.” You spoke, it’s something that you had been wanting to talk about but never had the chance.
“I have noticed, and it seems to be more to you than me. I’m not sure what started it but we should probably have a conversation with her to try and figure it out.” He agreed with your point. You sliced into a piece of chicken, almost cutting the corner of your hand. “It started when the slytherin group started coming ‘round.” He hummed in agreement. You threw the chicken in a pan and began to season it.
“I'm surprised her and Harry aren't friends. Honestly besides the fact that their cousins they seem to be the same person. Just different houses.” Regulus chuckled at your statement. Knowing what it was probably true. “I’m not even sure that they release that they're related.
“Yeah, it seems to be that way.” Before you could continue there was a knock on the front door of your house. You put the knife down and opened the door. You're feeling a little annoyed because it's later in the evening and dinner time.
“Can I help you-” The words didn’t even finish leaving your mouth. I stare at the group of strangers in front of me. Sirius Black, Molly Wesley, four of the Wesley children. Remus stands in front of me, Harry parked at his side. A few more people that you don’t know the names of are right here with them. You stand there in shock for a couple seconds before Regulus walks up and asks who's there. Nobody in this group knows he is alive, since you faked his death. He was a traitor to Voldemort and so he didn’t get killed. You planned an elaborate plan to fake his death. You watched how Remus and Sirius’s eyes widened in shock. Rain starts to pour down steadily.
“Come in before the wind picks up.” You usher the hoard of people into your large living room. They spread out amongst the room. Some murmuring, others staring. You locked the front door and walked into the living room.
“Okay first things first, what's going on?” You ask slightly annoyed so many people showed up unannounced and you didn’t even know all of them.
“That's what I want to know.” Sirius said, his tone seemed hurt and angry. He pointed at Regulus. “You’re supposed to be dead. Didn’t he who is not named kill you?” Remus nodded in agreement. The students that were in the room's eyes widened slightly. They must not have heard the story.
“No, we faked my death after I switched from the dark side.” Regulus sighed. You nodded in agreement. Remus’s face seemed skeptical but he went with it.
“Now for my question, what's going on and why are you here?” You repeated again. Sirius sighed and Molly spoke up.
“I remember hearing about how you worked on the dark side for a while. Well for your brother. Did you happen to keep journals or anything?” You nodded and walked over to a bookshelf in the corner of the room. You grabbed about three books and set them on the table in front of everyone.
“James was the only one who read them.” You spoke and pulled a piece of paper out of the dust cover of one of the journals. You handed it to Harry.
“Your father wrote this to me before he and Lily died. I thought that if I ever got to see you again you would want it.” He nodded before speaking. “You knew my father?” You nodded.” More than anyone in this room.” Sirius looked like he was about to protest but Remus shot him a look.
“Your father was my older brother. I actually helped choose your name.” I smiled and the boy looked pleased. People began to talk amongst themselves since this was a semi private conversation. You were pleased to see Sirius and Regulus talking to each other.
“ If you were related to him, then why did they send him to go live with his muggle family?” A girl with sandy brown hair asked.
“Me and Regulus were being hunted by the dark lord. Since we betrayed him, I had killed him once but he was regenerated and gained more power. It was too dangerous for him to stay here.” The trio's eyes widened.” You killed him?” You nodded.
“Before Harry came into the picture, everyone who killed him got a scar, mines on arm.” you lift my arm showing the dark mark that was there from when you worked undercover for the Order, the lighting bolt scar was larger than the one Harry had. Their eyes widened with shock, either from the size of the scar or the fact that you have a dark mark. The mark was faded and dull. There was no indentation from it and the surface of your arm was smooth other than the border of the scar. You felt their eyes trace over the scar.
“You have a-” The red headed boy said. He didn’t even finish his sentence before everyone's eyes were on me once again. I nodded.
“That's true, but I'm not on the dark side, I only have it to help Regulus  and order.
About an hour went on with going back and forth on how to take down Voldemort. The front door slams open from Harper walking back into the house, a tall stocky man follows behind her. It was her boyfriend Theo. Everyone in the living room was silent. She walked into the kitchen and the two talked.
“Mom!? What happened to dinner? It’s not even cooked.” She yelled through the house. You and Regulus looked at eachother. She walked into the living room and her eyes went wide.
“What the hell-” She didn’t finish her sentence before Theo walked up beside her. She made eye contact with the trio, whom you have now learned all the names of. Their eyes widened with shock.
“Theo honey you should head home.” He didn’t say anything but nodded, grabbing his jacket and walking out of the house. “Mom. Dad. What the hell are they doing here?” She questioned. Annoyinced riddled her words, sarcasm filled her voice.
“Reg, please handle things here.” You said motioning for Harper to follow you through the house and into a different room. She didn’t understand what was going on, it all ended with a screaming match and her storming out of the house. You make your way back to the living room knowing they all heard the argument that had just insured.
“I think that's all for now, but we will be in touch.” Molly said. Sirius and Remus stayed behind to talk with you both.
You all cooked dinner together like old times, nothing seemed to change except you and Regulus are supposed to be dead. Sirius went to prison and Remus is a professor at hogwarts.
“You know I really thought I would never see you two again.” You spoke, Remus had finished setting the table.
“How do you think we feel? I honestly thought my brother was stupid and died and you killed yourself because of it. Here to know that you have a daughter.” Sirius chuckled at himself. He was being his old jokester self.
“How did you do it? I mean how did you guys manage to hide for 16 years now?” Remus said, you knew he would be curious and want to know.
“Well..” Regulus started looking at you to make sure it was okay. You nodded and let him continue. “ We got muggle jobs, she's an EMT at a hospital and I work as a doctor. We also stopped using magic as much as possible. Y/n would help heal if there was a nearby witch or wizard who needed the help, but she told them a fake name. Something that would check out.” Regulus said, taking a bite of his food. The two nodded their heads as they ate.
“That reminds me. Regulus, Jane told me that she won't be there Monday so you get her patiences.” Regulus nodded, while chewing his food.
“So Harper… is she coming home?” Remus asked. You swallowed. You weren’t sure how to respond, since it was unpredictable.
“Probably not for another couple hours. Or even a day. You never really know with her.” You explain, Harper was a wild child, a lot like you. You both didn’t get along because of how much she reminded you of yourself. She was probably at the Malfoy manor or Theo’s. You really don’t know.
“Does it happen often?” Remus asked. You nodded while eating. With that being said, the front door opens and closes, footsteps head up the stairs and her door slams shut. You sigh and get up and start towards the stairs.
“Y/n? Why don’t I go talk to her, maybe it will be better.” Remus says he was always the most logical out of them. You nod and sit down again, as he makes his way to her room. After the talk the two had, they both make their way back down and she makes herself a plate of food. You all sit together and talk. After dinner you move to the living room, to hopefully explain more of what happened earlier.
“So you're telling me I’m related to Harry Potter!” She yelled, her voice seemed to be filled with disgust and disappointment.”Yes..I know it is not ideal for you but I can’t change it.” Regulus says, Harper rolls her eyes and Sirius smacks her in the back of the head, Remus gives him a warning look.
“No rolling your eyes, they have no control over this. And for you it should be a wish to be related to such a powerful wizard.” He scolds her,she looks like she's rolling her eyes internally.
“He’s a freak. He claims Voldemort is back.” She says, her voice unwary. The four of you shudder at the name. Regulus starts to look pissed off. She knows most of the story on what happened.
“ Get out of my house young lady. You have no right talking like that.” Regulus yells sternly, it's not a normal thing for him to do. He is always the laid back parent, the one who never yells. She stomps out of the house, and you apologize for her behavior. Maybeing kicking her out wasn’t the best option but it's what happen.Once Sirius and Remus left, you and Regulus were left alone in the house. Choosing to spend your alone time reading. You wrapped his arms as you both read, a record by David Bowie playing softly in the background.
 “Y/n?” You hummed in response.
“What note did you give Harry? I never really thought you would part with them.” He asks, he had ever seen the note that James had written to you when you were undercover, or when you were living in Scotland together, but he did hear about them..
“I gave him the letter he wrote when he told me he proposed to Lilly, and the one that he told me Lily was pregnant. I wanted him to know a small piece of his father, without him knowing everything that went on.” You said, placing a bookmark in your book. He nodded and let the topic go, you continued to lay in his arms as he hummed to the record. Nothing but the feeling of content littered your bones. Knowing you gave the boy a little something.

Hermione knocked on the door of the small house.
It was Dumbledore's idea- going to the house of Cassiopeia Malfoy.
But Dumbledore was gone, and now it was up to the trio.
The door opened slowly.
A small woman with the infamous white Malfoy hair peered through the crack. "H…Hello?"
Hermione gave a small smile, "Hello. We're looking for Cassiopeia Malfoy."
The woman's eyebrows furrowed, but her voice remained quiet, "What do you want with her?"
Harry stepped forward, "We have some questions. About this."
He held up the fake locket.
Even Ron noticed the widening of her eyes and the quickening of her breath.
"…Come in."
The woman set down four cups of hot tea and sat in one of the chairs of the living room. "How did you know I knew about this?"
Ron piped up, "Kreature mentioned you."
Her head tilted, "Kreature? Kreature talked about me?"
"Yeah," Harry chirped as he took a sip of the tea. "He said you took the locket. To keep him from getting hurt."
"That's true," she said. "I couldn't leave him like that. Everyone knows where the Black house is. I could hide it away and no one would know."
"Hide it?" Hermione asked. "What's your connection to the Blacks?"
"My connection?" She almost scoffed. "I am a Black. Somewhat."
The trio gave each other confused looks.
"Oh. You… you didn't… I didn't… um…" Her eyes widened as she looked away.
"You knew Sirius. He said that." Harry said. "Did you… marry him?"
The woman gave out a laugh, "Merlin, no!" She pushed a strand of her curly hair behind her ear. "No, no. Sirius and I were wonderful friends, yes. But, no. I was married to Regulus."
"You married Regulus Black?" Hermione asked in shock.
"I didn't know he was married," Ron quirked.
"That was the point," Cassiopeia said. "After… after James and Lily died- the day they died- Regulus and I married."
"While you were still in school?" Hermione asked again.
"Yes," she said. "We loved each other so much. But, we feared that something could happen to us, and we married that day. If we were to die, we wanted to be married first."
"That's romantic," Hermione sighed.
"That's bloody ridiculous," Ron scoffed.
"Ronald!" Hermione scorned.
"No, it was." Cassiopeia said. "But, it worked. Regulus died not long after and… I still carry the name."
"Cassiopeia… Black?" Harry asked.
She nodded. "But no one else knows that."
She snapped out of her thoughts, "Right. The locket."
Harry gripped it in his hand, "Locket? I thought it was just a pendant."
"Oh, no." She said. "A locket. But it holds something wicked inside."
"The horcrux." Hermione chimed in.
"Yes. A horcrux. Let me… um…" She stood and disappeared into one of the side rooms of her home. They heard the sound of digging in one of the drawers before she appeared again, "Here it is."
In her hand, a horcrux of Lord Voldemort dangled delicately.
Harry held a hand up to his forehead in pain.
"It was the last thing Regulus did- getting this, I mean." She stated.
Ron held out his hand, taking the locket in his hand. "What happened exactly?"
"It's complicated. You know how to destroy a horcrux?"
Harry shrugged, "No, but we intend to find out."
"Well, if surviving in that cave is any indication, I'd say you three can figure it out."
Her words provided little comfort.
Harry moved forward in his seat, "I know I'm simply prying but-"
"-But how did he die?" Cassiopeia guessed.
Harry nodded.
"He was drowned by the Inferi."
"He died IN the cave?" Harry asked.
She nodded, sipping her tea again. Her voice was barely heard, "yes."
The three noticed the shaking in her hands.
"Please. Tell us what happened?" Hermione pleaded.
She sighed and set the cup down, "Regulus was a calculated man. He knew what he was doing. He gained the trust of the Dark Lord. He was… he was in the higher ranks. But when Sirius was charged falsely for betraying your parents, Regulus knew the truth and vowed to find a way to kill Voldemort. He… discovered the horcruxes and… well…"
Harry nodded and opened his mouth to say more, but paused when he heard the front door open and a familiar voice ring throughout the home, "Sophie?"
Cassiopeia turned her head to look over her shoulder, "I'm in here, love."
The trio felt the air leave their lungs as Remus Lupin rounded the corner.
He paused, "Oh. Harry, Ron, Hermione. I didn't… I wasn't expecting you three."
He stepped toward the woman and placed his hands on her shoulders, "Is everything alright?"
"Yes, Harry is just here to ask about Regulus."
Remus nodded, "I see."
"I'm so sorry," Hermione chimed in. "I have to ask…"
Cassiopeia sighed as her cheeks turned red, "It's a… newer development. Things have been hard for us as of late, and… we find… solace in each other."
They both loved a Black brother.
And both of those brothers were dead.
Remus nodded and bent down to kiss the crown of her head. "I'll make supper. You three stay tonight."
"No, that's alright, Remus-" Harry said.
"-Nonsense." Remus chided. "It's dangerous for you three right now. Stay at least tonight. For me."
The three debated and communicated through their eyes before Harry nodded, "That would be lovely. Thank you."
It was relieving to Harry to finally get to see two people that truly loved each other interact in such a domestic state: making supper.
Their hands brushed occasionally and they shared a smile each time.
He couldn't help but stare.
Even as Remus pulled one of her arms towards him. She absentmindedly let him, immersed in her cooking. He pulled the sleeve of her shirt to her elbow and rubbed the faded dark mark that resided there.
She quickly turned to look at him.
He gave a sweet smile and gently kissed her wrist, then kissed her cheek.
She smiled and shooed him away.
"Why have you never mentioned her before?" Harry asked Remus after dinner.
The man sighed, "It's too complicated."
"Well, we have time." Harry scoffed.
"No, you need your rest. Sleep and we'll talk in the morning. I'll help you get anything you need for the road."
"Thank you, Remus."
"-Remus?" Cassiopeia almost whispered as she leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen.
Remus could feel himself melting at her tired eyes. "Yes, dove?"
"When are you coming to bed?"
His eyes flicked to Harry, then back to her, "In just a moment, darling, I promise."
She nodded and rubbed her eyes. She turned back to her room and muttered a quiet, "G'night, Harry."
Harry made a note of the light in Remus's eyes.
"Tell me." Remus concluded, "Did she tell you what you needed to know?"
Harry shrugged, "I mean…. I still don't know how to destroy it, but I have it now, and that's all I needed from her."
Remus nodded, and pulled his lips into a thin line in thought.
"I'm sorry," Harry piped up, "about Regulus. That must have been hard for her."
"You've no idea," Remus muttered. "She's always been a sweet soul. Even back at Hogwarts. Everyone loved her."
"How the hell did she end up marrying Regulus?" Harry asked.
"She was a Hufflepuff. The Malfoys were outraged. But Regulus managed to talk Lucius into keeping ties with her. After all, that was his sister. But… Regulus took an interest in her. Who wouldn't?" Remus leaned back in his seat, reminiscing out loud for Harry. "And they secretly dated for almost a year before we found out- me, Sirius, Peter, and your father. She ran around in some of our circles. Peter was infatuated with her. We teased him about it all of the time but Sirius would always get mad."
Harry felt a smile come to his face at the thought of his parents' time at the school.
"Regulus and Sophie were still in school, their seventh year when your parents died. Seeing Sirius accused and sent to Askaban. It sent Regulus into a tailspin. They were married after that."
"Yeah, she mentioned that."
"Well, Regulus came to the Order and offered information. We accepted. Not long after, we heard of his death."
Harry furrowed his brows, "But surely Cassiopeia would've stopped him from going, right?"
Remus ran a hand over his face and sighed, "No. He promised her he'd take her… to ease her spirits. But he left in the morning before she awoke. Left her a note. And never came back." He chewed on his lip before continuing, "She didn't find out what happened until Kreature came back and told her."
"And… the dark mark?"
"Ah, yes. Um… She joined when she was dating Regulus. It was to please everyone's families so they could be married. But, she wasn't ever loyal to Voldemort. And Regulus didn't make her attend meetings. He couldn't bare to corrupt her like that."
The boy who lived was finally starting to understand. "And you two…"
Remus chuckled, "We used to be wonderful friends at Hogwarts. Studied together. Never any romantic feelings. Wasn't until after Sirius died that we grew attached to each other."
Cassiopeia appeared in the doorway again, her hair awry this time and wearing pajamas, "-Remus? You promised."
"And so I did, Sophie." He stood and walked to her, taking her waist in his hands gently. "Good night, Harry. We'll talk in the morning."
Harry could hear the two wandering down the hall as Remus cooed, "Let's get you to bed, sweet woman."
It made the boy's heart happy.
In another world, he thought, they'd be beyond happy.
He flipped the locket over and over in his hand, lost in thought.
Cassiopeia Black. Hmm.

Monsters
@wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 369
I didn't plan on it but here's part 3! Hope it answers some questions Part 1 & Part 2
@pain-in-the-riri, @myriadparacosm, @theoneandonlypjofanatic, @annaliza999, @demetercabingreen-thumb if you're still interested
Remus watches Sirius shoulders tense, his fingers around the phone going white as he holds on tighter. Remus will easily admit he has no idea what’s going on, no idea why Sirius is on the phone with a dead man. He knew dating Sirius would be an adventure, he just hadn’t realised it would be a life-threatening one. When Sirius puts the phone down, it's hesitant even though goodbyes have already been said, as if Regulus would go back to being six feet below a gravestone once they’re no longer talking. Since Remus is both an only child and inexperienced with talking to people who’ve faked their deaths, he’s not sure what to do or what to say to keep Sirius calm.
“Regulus thinks it's someone called Fenrir Greyback who’s been chasing me. An assassin and a monster. Apparently my family thinks he’s efficient.” Sirius spits the last word out like it’s bitter poison. Fenrir Greyback…That name sounds so familiar…
“Wait, wait,” Remus says, still struggling to make sense of the situation. “So that really was Regulus.”
“Yep. Wouldn’t tell me much though—only that there are a lot of invisible monsters roaming the streets. He said he fell in with a guy called Riddle, a real violent criminal, and had to do something drastic to escape. So...” The smile on Sirius’ face is awkwardly placed, easily identifiable as fake, at least to Remus. He decides to circle back to that particular problem.
“Okay, but why has your family come after you now?” Sirius escaped years ago, it made no sense.
“Regulus wasn’t sure but I think it’s because of Alphard’s death two months ago. Inheritance still hasn’t taken effect but we all know it’s going to me. It sounds like they lost a lot of money in whatever mess Regulus created. The thing about Alphard’s will is that if it isn’t going to me, it would go to his sister—my mother—since Regulus is dead, at least legally. He was very clear about all that.” He scowls. “And they know I can’t claim the will without going out and risking death.”
“So it’s a race, you to your inheritance and your family to you.”
“So it is my dear Remus.”
