Slice of Your Pie - Robert "Bob" Floyd
Summary: Bob moves into your neighborhood and you bake him a pie as a welcome gift. He comes over to thank you for it, and doesn't end up leaving your house until morning.
Pairing: Robert "Bob" Floyd x f!reader
Content warnings: Smut (18+, minors DNI), fingering, grinding, unprotected p in v (reader is on birth control), fluff
The nieghborhood that you lived in was small enough that you always knew when someone was moving in. You were enjoying your coffee on your porch when you saw a few trucks pull into the recently sold house right nextdoor. A few people stepped out of the first car, and some good looking guys got out of the moving trucks. You tried to subtly watch as they unloaded things into the house before walking down your driveway to get the mail. As you were checking the stack for anything that might’ve been junk mail, someone tapped you on the shoulder.
“Hey, I’m Bob. My friends are helping me move in, but I wanted to introduce myself before you went back inside,” he said. You smiled and introduced yourself, tucking the mail under one of your arms to shake his hand. You learned that he was in the Navy, and that he loved Star Wars. That fact made you smile, since your pajamas were currently a Princess Leia shirt and athletic shorts.
“Hurry up, Bob! This couch isn’t gonna unload itself!” Someone yelled.
“That’s Coyote. I gotta go, but it was nice talking to you.”
“Wait, Bob, do you like pie? I can make you one if you want.”
“Sure! Key lime is my favorite.”
“That’s perfect. I have a lime tree in my backyard. Oh, and my lemon tree occasionally hangs over your property so feel free to pick a few lemons whenever.”
“Thanks! I have a really good lemonade recipe so I might have to take you up on that.”
You went back inside and looked at the recipe in your grandmother’s cookbook and realized that you didn’t have the right limes for the pie. Getting them was easy, though, it just took a trip to the grocery store. The good thing was that it was a Saturday, so you had the day off from running your family’s business. It was a bookstore and cafe, and all of the pastries came from your grandmother’s cookbook. There had been talks of turning it into a bar at night, but that was going to be a long process.
Making the pie only took about forty minutes, but you had to let it cool in the fridge for at least a few hours. All of the moving trucks were gone, now replaced with a few cars in the driveway. You could hear laughter coming from the backyard, and it made you happy, because the last neighbors were close to the end of their lives and didn’t have guests over very often.
You were able to drop the pie off at around 6, and Bob had mentioned that everyone was getting ready to eat and that it would be the perfect desert. He even invited you to join the cookout, but you had already ordered a pizza and the delivery driver was on their way. You exchanged numbers before you went back to your house so that you could keep talking. Once you had disappeared from ear shot, Fanboy started talking about how hot he thought you were.
“Don’t make it weird. She probably has a boyfriend or something,” Bob said.
“I don’t think so. She spent her day making you a pie. A day that she could’ve spent with her boyfriend, might I add,” Phoenix said.
“But that’s the neighborly thing to do. Bring the new neighbor a pie or casserole. My mom always did it for our neighbors.”
“Most people aren’t working on Saturdays. I’m just saying that if I didn’t have to work and I had a boyfriend or girlfriend, I’d be spending my day with them. Anyway, let’s try this pie.”
Everyone had a slice of it after they finished with dinner. Even Hangman, who didn’t really like desert to begin with. Rooster thought it was so good that he kept coming back for seconds and thirds, soon passing out on Bob’s couch from all of the food that he ate. Bob waited for mostly everyone to leave before he texted you to see if you were still awake, since it was almost midnight. To his surprise, you responded that you were still awake, and you got too invested in your book so you lost track of time. He was at your door within five minutes, and you had a different set of pajamas on.
“Hey, I wanted to thank you for the pie that you made. My friends and I thought it was delicious.”
“You’re welcome! Would you like to come in for a drink? I was just about to pour myself another glass of wine.”
“Sure.”
Bob followed you inside and took his shoes off by the door. You poured him a glass of wine before sitting on the couch and using your phone to play soft music. As you got to know each other more, you discovered that you had a lot in common, and you were both single. The dim lighting of the living room, combined with the wine and music, made the sexual tension stronger. He told a bad joke, but you started laughing anyways. He used that as his moment to gently kiss you.
You were into it right away, pulling him closer by wrapping your arms around his neck. He groaned into the kiss as he slipped his tongue in your mouth and you started grinding on his hard cock. He broke the kiss for a moment to take his shirt off, and you quickly followed. He put his hands on your tits as you continued to grind on his cock.
“I’d love to continue this, but can we go to your bed? I’ve never really been a fan of having sex on a couch,” he said. You chuckled and grabbed his hand, leading him upstairs to your bedroom. He laid you on the bed, continuing to kiss you as he took your shorts and underwear off. He rubbed your clit and started to finger you while you were moaning and writhing underneath him.
“God, you’re so wet,” he said.
“It’s all for you. Holy shit, it feels so good,” you moaned.
Once he figured out that you were ready enough for him, he took his shorts off and threw them by the bed.
“I don’t have a-,”
“I have an IUD and I’m clean.”
“Okay. You ready?”
You nodded and felt him slowly push himself into you. You moaned in pleasure and pulled him down to kiss you as he started thrusting faster. You could tell that he was close as he started rubbing your clit so that you could both release at around the same time. The fire in your stomach was burning hotter until you finally released, and Bob quickly pulled out before releasing on your stomach. He rolled over and reached for the box of tissues that you kept by your bed before cleaning both of you up.
“Do you want to stay the night?” You asked. He chuckled and nodded his head, cuddling with you until both of you fell asleep. When you woke up the next morning from your alarm going off, Bob was still holding onto you.
“I have to be at work in an hour and a half,” you said.
“Oh, okay. Do you want me to make you something to eat or some coffee?”
“No, I usually have my breakfast at work. Thanks for the offer, though. Do you want to shower together?”
Bob nodded his head and followed you to the bathroom. The shower was intimate, but not sexual, something that you enjoyed.
With your bag over your shoulder, you stepped outside of the house and walked to your car.
“I really enjoyed last night. Maybe we could go out on an actual date next time, though,” you said. Bob started blushing, and he stammered out a “yes” while nodding his head. You chuckled and got into your car to go to work. The day went by quickly as you did multiple things around the little bookstore. Not very many customers came in, but it was a Sunday, so people were usually doing other things. You heard the bell of the door ring as someone walked in, so you finished putting copies of Frankenstein on the shelves before heading to the front of the store.
“Hi, can I help you with anything?” You asked as you walked to the register. Bob was standing there, smiling.
“I didn’t know that you worked here,” he said as he tried not to laugh.
“I own the place, it’s my family’s business.”
“Oh, nice. I guess I’ll have to come by more often, then.”
“Yeah, I guess you will.”

Hi! Thank you for the health advice! I would love to quit or significantly reduce carbs, I also feel like it's heavy on my body, but so many meals revolve around grains (sourdough bread mostly) and I guess there's a craving aspect to it too... Could you give advice on what you're eating instead?? I have lots of eggs, fish, occasional meat, plenty of fruit, just enough veg haha but i find it hard to imagine going without carbs (or grains more specifically cos I have no prob with vege carbs). Especially in winter 😋 Thank you for any help 🙏🙏
I feel like society has normalised feeling heavy and lethargic after meals, but its amazing you have noticed this and want to change!
You may want to cut carbs gradually (no starches - breads, grains, rice, pasta, potatoes).
I would recommend looking into GI index to see what foods are high glucose, following Hormone Balancing recipes, juices etc (usually very low carb and support women's health). Listening to podcasts on microbiome, or even a tiktok search.
Introducing pre/ probiotics: I make sauerkraut (which is basically cabbage / onions in water and salt left to ferment for a few days - lots of variations on this), also just made my first batch of Kefir (I stay away from store bought Kefir as its pasturised and all the good stuff has been killed off during this process). I mention these as a healthy gut is going to support you as you remove carbs and introduce more wholesome foods.
Breakfasts:
Omlette (spinach / onion / parsley )
Scrambled eggs w/ coconut oil
Buckwheat porridge w/ blueberries (buckwheat is a seed not a grain so low glucose index)
Avocado salad (seeds, olives, rocket, tomatoes, cucumber) +tahini
Snacks:
Nuts, olives, blueberries, blackberries, watermelon
Main meals:
Veg + Protein (Broccli, kale, butternut squash, courgette, carrots, asparagus, cabagge, peppers). I do different variations of veg to mix things up, sometimes i do Chinese style stir fry, I try to add garlic and ginger as much as possible into the veg. Protein is usually grass fed steak, whole fish - seabream, sea bass, mackerel, cod fillet, wild salmon fillet, or turkey breast fillet. I make chimichurri sauce to add some extra flavour to the fish.
Protein + lentil / chicpeas dish. I have a stew a few days a week to break up the veggies because they do get boring after a while.
Bone broth. I boil the bones, and have as a little side dish with veggies but this isn't really filling enough for a main meal.
I make beetroot juice, and also watermelon juice, tumeric + ginger shots throughout the week. I try to throw in flaxseed and chia seeds where possible.
I cut coffee/ decaf all that and now only drinking fresh mint tea, slice of lemon + hot water, fresh juices (within the hour of making), and water ensuring 2l per day.
Number one thing that had to go was oats. So if you are having a morning crash I suggest cutting the carbs first thing. I know there are suggestions (glucose goddess) that fat with carbs or when you eat them (having carbs after veg can help) but personally i think its best to cut them.
I hope this helps! Its a full lifestyle change that has honestly helped so much! It's a commitments, but investing in feeling good and your health will make you feel so good and wholesome! xoxoxo
*I used the free 1 month trial of MyFitnessPal app to track my calories/ meals to ensure I was getting enough food - for some this might be extreme but super helpful to see what’s going on.

AMERICANO [PORTGAS D. ACE X READER]
[SUMMARY] you, chopper, and zoro offer to take the valentine's day shifts at the cafe, and you meet a man with a possible caffeine addiction. [PRONOUNS] gender neutral [GENRE] modern + coffee shop au [POV] second person [WORD COUNT] 1534 [CONTENT] first meetings | valentine's day | possibly slightly ooc Ace? [A/N] belongs to this one shot collection. kind of a valentine's day special I guess
You sipped casually on your drink, eyes fanning over the surprisingly bustling cafe before you.
Well, it shouldn’t have been a surprise, really. Valentine’s day was a prime opportunity for couples to go to cute little cafes and eat cute little desserts while drinking cute little drinks.
No, you weren’t bitter. Not at all.
Between you and the two coworkers you’d be working with that day, you were probably the one with the most complicated relationship regarding the holiday. Zoro hardly had a romantic bone in his body and could not care less about the quote-unquote “meaningless holiday,” and Chopper, while you knew he had the occasional crush, was just a kid and focused more on his studies and his job than any romantic aspirations.
You just didn’t want to be left alone to mope in your apartment while your roommate was off galivanting around town.
The sound of multiple cans hitting the counter drew your attention away from the couples, eyes landing on the man standing before you. He steadied the three cans of Red Bull and then turned to the bake case, eyes widening at the broad selection.
“Welcome to the Thousand Sunny, what can I get you today?” You put your drink away and tried not to focus on how handsome he was, even if there was something a little… greasy about him.
“Oh! Hi there.” The man straightened and shot you a cheeky grin, one hand going to scratch the back of his neck. He stared at you for a minute, like he’d been caught off guard or something, and you fought back the flush in your cheeks that came from being singled out in his attention. “Can I get one of those sandwich things with the egg on top, as many chocolate croissants as you’re willing to give me, three lemon bars, and four fruit tarts? Oh, and a medium extra-extra-hot americano with two extra shots in a large cup?”
Your fingers hovered over the screen, mouth open despite your best efforts to hide your surprise at the large order. You blinked, trying to process everything, when a knight in shining armor appeared.
“Ace?” Zoro’s voice came from behind you. You quickly glanced over, relieved that he’d come to your rescue and seemed to know this freckled, Hawaiian shirt-wearing guy. Wait, what did Zoro call him? “What are you doing here? Luffy doesn’t work today.”
“Ah, yeah, I know. I was craving something sweet so I thought I’d swing by during my lunch.” He smiled at Zoro, who moved to take your place in front of the monitor. You gladly let him. “It’s good to see you, man. Thanks for taking care of Luffy while he’s at work.”
Oh God, that’s Ace, one of Luffy’s older brothers.
“If you wanna thank someone, thank [Name]. That ero-cook’s been scheduling them with Luffy more than anyone else.” Zoro grunted, punching in Ace’s order. “Kitchen’s closed today, so no sandwich. Is this all going on your tab?”
“Yup, thanks. Gotta dine and dash today, Pops doesn’t want me slacking off just ‘cause it’s a holiday.” He turned to you then, a polite smile on his ridiculously handsome face. “You’re [Name], the new hire, yeah? Luffy’s told me all about you! Thanks for keeping an eye on him, even if he’s been around way longer than you. I know how troublesome he can get.”
You hesitated and then waved your hands in the air dismissively, shaking your head. “Oh no, really, there’s nothing to thank me for. Luffy’s a big help when it comes to the customers, which has let me familiarize myself with the drink recipes. Really, I should be thanking him.” You laughed airily, ignoring the curious look on Zoro’s face. “It’s uh, nice to finally put a face to the name! I’ve heard a bit about you, as well, though Luffy doesn’t really talk about his family all that much.”
An exaggerated pout pulled at his lips. “Aw, really? And here I thought he never shut up about me.” You almost panicked, but the teasing glint in his eyes told you he was only messing with you. “Well, [Name]-san, I can guess why Zoro’s working today, but why are you? Surely you have better things to do on Valentine’s day.”
Your eyes shot wide open, completely shocked at his forwardness. Was he… was he flirting with you?
Zoro cleared his throat and shoved a large cup in your hands, the order written on it. “Get started on the drink.”
“R- right.” You stuttered, ducking your head and avoiding Ace’s gaze. You scurried off to the espresso machine and began preparing the drink, Zoro and Ace chatting as the former pulled out the requested desserts. You felt your ears burn as you recalled the conversation that had just occurred; why on Earth would Ace of all people flirt with you? You must have been mistaken, there was no way that was even an option. He was probably like Sanji in that respect, always tossing out compliments without really thinking. Yeah, that had to be it.
“Oh, hi Ace!” Chopper’s voice hit your ears– he must have finished his lunch, which meant you’d be able to take your lunch and escape from the situation once you made this drink.
“Hey, Chopper! How’re your studies going? Luffy mentioned you had a big test the other week.”
The sound of the shot being pulled muffled the rest of their words, allowing you a brief moment to collect your thoughts. With the drink made you grasped the cup, your fingers burning slightly as the heat from the extra-extra-hot water seeped through the material, causing you to hurriedly slip on a sleeve. You popped the lid on and took a deep breath before mustering your best customer-service smile, sliding the completed drink across the bar and next to the plated pastries and cans of Red Bull.
Ace beamed at you, immediately stopping in the middle of his sentence. “Thanks!” He chirped, popping the lid off. You watched, eyes widening in horror as he opened one of the cans of Red Bull and poured the contents into the cup. He popped the lid back on and, without hesitating for even a moment, took several large sips of the piping hot monstrosity. Once again your jaw dropped, not sure how to process what you’d just seen. Who in their right mind mixes that much caffeine together? And who on Earth is able to drink something that hot without dying?
He must be made of fire, or something.
Zoro laughed at your shocked expression, Chopper joining in and grabbing the empty can off the counter and tossing it into one of the trash cans.
Ace pulled his lips from the lid and sighed in content, flashing another beaming smile your way as he held the cup tight. “That’s perfect, thanks [Name]!”
“I- uh- it’s- it’s just espresso and water.” You stuttered, discreetly kicking the back of Zoro’s leg in an attempt to get him to stop laughing. It didn’t work.
“Well, it’s great.” Ace grinned. “Thanks again.”
You hummed and nodded, and then watched as he practically inhaled the entirety of the food he’d ordered. It seemed like everything he did was a surprise to your poor heart, and you weren’t sure how much more you’d be able to take.
You busied yourself with some cleaning and tidying up as Ace, Chopper, and Zoro continued their conversation, doing your best not to think about the man’s earlier words and insinuation. You hardly even noticed when he said his goodbyes and began making his way out of the cafe, barely getting out a polite farewell before the door swung shut.
You could hear Zoro and Chopper snickering behind you, and with a huff you shoved the rag you’d been using to clean into the older male’s hands. “I’m going on lunch.” You grumbled, untying your apron as you made your way to the back.
Once situated in front of the microwave, lazily watching as your food reheated, you felt the phone in your back pocket buzz. With a quirked brow you pulled it out and then froze.
It was a text from an unknown number.
[Unknown Number: Hey, [Name]! It’s Ace, hope you don’t mind I got your number from Luffy. If you’re not busy with a date or whatever after work, would you like to get coffee or something? I try to make it a point to get to know all of my brother’s friends.]
Your heart stuttered in your chest, trying to figure out how best to proceed.
[You: Hi! No, I don’t have anything to do after work, though I’m not sure you need any more caffeine. We could do dinner, though?]
You hit send without allowing yourself the time to second-guess your words, adding his number to your contacts.
The reply came quickly.
[Ace: I’m always down for food! What were you thinking? There’s this really good barbeque place I know, if you like meat.]
You grinned and typed your response, easily falling into a comfortable text exchange even as the microwave interrupted you with its loud beeps.
Perhaps Valentine’s day wouldn’t suck this year.

Kinda curious on how the boys would be with a baker s/o......asking for a friend (or if not all, how about with blue boi?)
For you babe, you know I had to give you our blue beloved (hope it’s okay if I crank this out in x reader fashion 💙):
When Karamatsu first discovers that you’re a baker, he is immediately fascinated. He considers himself a halfway decent chef, but baking was never his strong suit, and he feels as though he can learn so much from you. He’ll watch you kitchenside, enthralled by how well you need the dough for your sour bread loaf or how you meticulously whip your egg whites into stiff peaks for your meringue. The confections you create every time you bake leaves his mouth watering - and he’s always eager to tell you such! He considers himself spoiled by you being that he gets to taste test everything you make.
There’s a habit of yours he loves, a soft humming you sing to yourself when you think he can’t hear you - and it warms him to the soul every time. He remembers fondly one morning when you’d made a strawberry shortcake for a picnic, he quietly observed you from the doorway as you piped fresh whipped frosting on the top. Your look of glowing pride for your passion shot straight to his heart, and as best as he tried to reel in his loving gaze, his efforts failed him. It didn’t take long before you’d notice though - and that’s how the tip of his nose ended up frosted, accompanied by your playful giggling.
From then on he offered to help you whenever you’d step foot into the kitchen with an agenda. You teach him about different bread starters, how the ends of piping bags require different strokes of the wrist, and that to take a real tiramisu above, one will use freshly brewed espresso and not instant coffee. He absorbs most things, but he finds it difficult when he sees how animated you become when you bake. The artist in you is palpable, and while you’ve denied it whenever he makes the comparison, he can’t help but feel like your love for the craft calls for the title. Even moreso when he realizes that kneading dough is hard work! And vanilla extract? Forget it! He’d made the mistake of adding a teaspoon too much and it ended up throwing off the whole recipe.
All the more reason he respects your affinity for baking.
…You catch him one day in the kitchen, up at an hour you would never, ever expect him to be. He’s got his dazzling blue apron on (a gift from you for his birthday last year), and he’s hunched over, muttering to himself.
“Karamatsu…are you okay?” you question, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
The man freezes, “H-Hunny! I wasn’t expecting you to be up so…early!”
His hands are behind his back, vehemently trying to place his body in the way of whatever is behind him to block your view. And whatever blue substance is on his apron has somehow made it to his cheek and forehead. You lean over, trying to catch a glimpse but to no avail.
“What’s behind you?…” you asked, your voice hinting at suspicion. He opened his mouth slowly, only to close it with a soft sigh. Stepping aside, Karamatsu presents a small cake: the coating of frosting is rough at best and you can now see that he attempted to pipe your initials and a heart under it in what you could only assume was lemon buttercream icing, but it’s fairly dilapidated and obvious that he was rather shaky from nervousness as he was doing it. Nevertheless, you swipe at a bit of frosting the cake. The lemon from the buttercream and rich vanilla bursts on your tongue and you squeal in delight.
“It’s delicious!” and you light up in a bright smile.
Karamatsu swears he could die right there. But instead he chooses to kiss you, the remnants of vanilla and lemon on your lips causing him to lick his own when he leaves you. The genuine look of sheer adoration that swims in his eyes leaves you near breathless, but that soon turns to an overwhelming blush when he says:
“I learned from the absolute best, my love.”

CockTails in the Skyy! - Drink Recap
I made it through eight rounds of drinking, so I could get through Our Skyy 2 with minimal damage. Below are the basic ingredients for each drink, links to the connected post rambling about each episode, and the drinking GIFs I used for each installment. Feel free to take the GIFs and the drink recipes to use as you'd like.
Bottoms Up!
Rum-Antics - Never Let Me Go (7.5/10)
spiced rum since I couldn't get Mekhong
smashed blueberries for that purple color that Nueng and Palm always had during their lovey-dovey scenes
ginger ale because I think Nueng was studying abroad in England, but if not . . . it is what it is
brown sugar and lime juice on the rim for class differences
Sun & Stars - Star in My Mind (7/10)
gin & tonic to balance the bitter and sweet of Daonuea and Khabkluen's dynamic
pineapple juice for that beach vibe
elder flower syrup and vanilla bean sugar on the rim to add to the sickly sugariness they expell
Jack Nasty - The Eclipse (8/10)
Jack Daniel's Honey Whiskey for Akk and Ayan's sweet yet intense dynamic

lemon juice for the wrench in the system and Sour Patch kid, Ayan

Purple Pair - Vice Versa (6/10, could've been 9/10)
Absolut vodka because vodka is my least favorite liquor (just like this show), but Absolut since much like this company, I'm gonna support my fellow queers no matter what
cranberry juice for Puen's pink(ish)
curaçao for Talay's blue
lavender syrup and rock candy on the rim for the wild switcheroo between calm and chaos
For Goodness' Sake - My School President (9/10)
sake for Chinzhilla's hot pot adventure
more white wine for all the whining and pining the Gun and Tinn did
lemons, limes, oranges, grapes, and apple slices for the sweetness overload (I was going to comment about the variation of fruits, but I don't know the crowd's feelings on the word, so . . . *takes a big sip directly from the bottle*)
Deja Brew - A Boss & A Babe (8/10)
dark coffee for our "tough" boss, Gun
vanilla brandy for the boss's babe, Cher
soy milk and ice for the men holding it together Tubtab and Jack
whipped cream and chocolate shavings for the disgustingly sweet Three and Zo
Sleigh What? - Bad Buddy (9.5/10 crossover with ATOTS)
champagne because all I hear is Jessie Ware's "Champagne Kisses" when I see these too
coconut water for episode 11's cake by the ocean (sex on the beach)
mint for that refreshing Pran smell that Pat loves
Christmas glass because it felt like Christmas getting that crossover and never forget Pat was shot on Christmas Eve!
Par-tea-ing Ways - A Tale of Thousand Stars (9.5/10 crossover with Bad Buddy)
tequila because I was saving my favorite liquor for my favorite series in this lineup
mango tea for those sachets that saved the village
chimoy and Tajín on the rim for that 🔥🔥🔥 Tian and Phupha bring
As usual,
Cheers, Queers!

Late Shift (Danbrey)
The winner of the "creatures and people" prompt poll was: A vampire who works the night shift at a gas station
Anywhere else, Dani would get in serious trouble for adding fresh herbs to the donut case offerings at four-thirty am.
Amnesty Lodge, with its attached gas station, does things a little differently. For starters, the head cook at the Lodge restaurant refuses to let them sell the standard gas station snacks without adding a few of his own into the mix. Hence the fairly fresh batch of doughnuts that he dropped off fifteen minutes ago. Dani’s basil plant has been growing even wilder this year, and she worked out that a sprinkle of basil makes the lemon filled donuts–even the ones Barclay doesn’t make–taste a million times better.
At least, that’s what customers tell them. Dani hasn’t eaten a donut since 1964.
Even when Stokers Famous Tonic became mainstream, allowing vampires to eat human food without getting violently ill, it’s not always cheap to get your hands on. And Dani likes to save hers for the fresh fruit from the garden, or when Barclay wants a recipe tester or Mama invites her for an early-morning cup of tea.
Or, if she plays her cards right, dinner with her favorite regular.
The door opens and the object of her dinner plans walks in, with far more energy than most humans have in the darkness of the morning.
“Hi Dani!” Aubrey waves. She’s brightened the flame-orange streak in her hair since Friday, making the black curls around it shine like a raven in the sun.
“Hi” Dani is relieved, not for the first time, that she can no longer blush, as Aubrey bends over to grab a Double Shot Oatmilk Monster Energy Coffee. She’s in her stage outfit, black dress jacket with studs sewn on the shoulders, and shorts and white dress shirt that look like someone ripped the arms and legs from a tuxedo.
Aubrey looks over her shoulder with a smile and Dani pretends to find a spot on the counter to clean with her nail.
“Just the usual please, if you’ve got it” The magician sets the drink on the counter. Dani grabs a waffle sandwich from the warming station; eggs, cheese, and hot sauce on a slightly sweet waffle, the kind Barclay makes in huge batches and then freezes.
“We do. Did you just get back from a show?”
“Nope” Aubrey leans on the counter, allowing Dani to see the bra peeking through the dress shirt, “heading to one. They booked me for a big brunch show at some country club in Huntington but they want me there, like, super duper early. Oh, wait, do you have baby carrots today?”
“Ummm” Dani glances at the chilled food display, “nope. Shipments are still kind of weird. Sorry.”
“Dr. Harris Bonkers will live without them. I’ve got other stuff to bribe him with to stay calm in the car.” She takes her change, but doesn’t move her hand right away. Instead she adds, “But you’re gonna owe him nose pets the next time he comes in.”
“I can handle that. Break a leg at the show.”
“Always do.” Aubrey gives her a wink and heads out into the parking lot, leaving her to rest her chin in her hands and sigh at the candy display.
—----------------------------------------------------------------
Aubrey’s totally going to do it. She’s going to ask Dani out when she stops for gas today. She’s made this promise to herself every day for the last two weeks, but gosh-darnit today she means it.
Dr. Harris Bonkers, PhD, runs circles around her feet as she swipes on black lipstick and stamps on her eyeliner.
“Just a sec buddy, I’m almost done.”
A honk in reply.
“Look, if I had my way I’d spend all day petting you, but I need to get groceries and you’re not allowed in Leo’s after the banana incident.” She crouches down pets the rabbit’s nose, “but you’re coming with me tonight even though we don’t have a show. I’m gonna need emotional support for this. You gonna be my wingman?”
She moves her hand back a half-inch, and he immediately bumps it with his nose.
“Thanks doctor, knew I could count on you.”
—-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dani is dumping blood orange syrup into the slushee machine when Aubrey walks in. The magician makes a bee-line for drinks, Dr. Harris Bonkers hopping behind her. The white rabbit is close to the size of a Corgi, sporting his black harness with flames on the sides as his claws click on the tile.
Technically he’s not supposed to be in here, but Mama has never booted him when she’s spotted him inside the Lodge or the restaurant, and Dani figures people who are stopping for gas at eleven at night have more on their minds than complaining about a fluffy bunny.
She heads over to the counter and Aubrey follows her, setting her Cherry Coke next to the sign for the Kepler Trunk or Treat.
“That all for tonight?”
“Yep” Aubrey says a bit too cheerfully. She’s worrying the chain of her necklace, something Dani wishes she would do less or do much more, depending on how in control of herself she’s feeling that night.
She has such a gorgeous neck.
Oh no that’s too creepy.
“Anything for the doctor?”
“Nah, he got an apple slice earlier–Dr. Harris Bonkers you put that down.” She disappears from view, reappearing with a pack of Double Bubble in hand. There are two, square teeth marks in it.
“This too. Sorry, he really likes the smell of bubblegum.”
“Silly bunny, that’s not for you. And don’t worry about paying for it, it’s like a buck and also Indrid will eat the stuff that didn’t get chomped.”
Aubrey laughs, “Thanks. Um, so, I’m doing shows at the Kepler Fall Festival this weekend. One at eleven and one at three. I know your schedule is probably weird because you work so late here but, um, I realized I’d never actually invited you to one of my shows. This one is going to be super freaking cool, I made up some Halloween tricks and everything. Do you know it’s weirdly hard to make a pumpkin disappear? Uh, anyway, just thought I’d ask.”
If Dani goes, there’s a very high chance she’ll get a serious sunburn.
Aubrey smiles hopefully, the expression crinkling her nose and making Dani want to lean over and kiss it.
“I’ll be there.”
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dani wasn’t at the first so, and with five minutes to go before the second one starts, Aubrey’s worried she won’t show. She so rarely sees the other woman around the Lodge during the day, like she sleeps through it, and it was silly of her to think she’d see her now.
She straightens Dr. Harris Bonker’s skull and crossbones tie, looks at the crowd and doesn’t see her. So she straightens out her cuffs and looks again,
Dani is there, in a seat in the back row. Her blonde hair falls over her shoulders, and she’s wearing a long, mint-green dress, brown boots up to her knee, lacy green gloves to her elbow, and is carrying a green and white striped parasol. She looks so cool and hot, how the hell is Aubrey supposed to focus on anything else?
Then again, Dani clearly made time to come see her perform.
The festival emcee announces her name. So she strides out to give the best performance of her life.
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dani is pruning her night-blooming jasmine when she hears it; the unmistakable sound of something munching her collards.
“Hey Dani, have you seen-”
She holds up a hand to shush Barclay, “Can you see what’s making that noise at all?”
“Uhhhhh” the cook scans the beds, then raises his eyebrows, “unless my eyes are going, it’s Dr. Harris Bonkers.”
“What the hell?” Dani slips into the next row and finds Barclay is right; the massive rabbit is happily munching a big, green leaf without a care in the world.
“He must have hopped out the Lodge door.”
Barclay shakes his head, “Aubrey hasn’t been here since this morning, and I saw her leave with him in her arms. And her car isn’t in the lot now. He must have run away from home.”
Dani frowns, “Her apartment is three blocks from here. That’s a long ways for you to have gone, doctor.”
“C’mon little guy, let’s get you into the Lodge and give Aubrey a call. She’s probably worried sick.” Barclay bends down but the rabbit swiftly hops away, leaf still in its mouth.
“He’s right, we–whoops” Dani makes a grab for him, but he darts between her legs.
After ten minutes of failing to catch him, Dani is even more impressed with the fact Aubrey trained him for her act. Because if he doesn’t want to do something, there seems to be no way to make him do it.
“Hang on, I have an idea. Stay here and make sure he doesn’t run into the woods.”
Dani looks around, then turns into a bat and zips across to the gas station, grabs a pack of gum, and runs back to the Lodge garden. She kneels and calls, “Doctor, look what I’ve got.”
The rabbit, done with it’s collard, sniffs the air and turns towards her.
“It’s your favorite” She holds out the pack and the rabbit hops forward, bobbing now and then like he suspects a trap. Only when he gets his teeth on the wrapper is Dani able to scoop him into her arms.
He snorts, annoyed, as Dani passes Barclay the gum, “can you toss that or give it to Indrid? I’n gonna go call Aubrey.”
Dr Harris Bonkers explores her room as Dani picks up the landline and dials. Three tries over fifteen minutes leads to nothing. Kepler is in the NRQZ; if Aubrey’s not at home, Dani’s going to have a hell of a time getting a hold of her.
She keeps trying until it’s time to go to work, at which point she sticks the rabbit in a small laundry basket and carries him over to the gas station with her. After several attempts to get out, he calms when she gives him a few baby carrots and turns on the audiobook of Bunnicula on her phone (it helps her fall asleep).
Around midnight, the door dings and Aubrey walks in, looking more haggard than Dani’s ever seen her.
“I” she sniffs, wiping her eye, “I was wondering if you’d maybe seen Dr. Harris Bonkers? He, he got out while I was asleep earlier and I, I looked all over the neighborhood and I can’t, can’t”
“Hey, fireblossom, it’s okay.” Dani hurries around the counter a tad faster than a human should, “we found him in the garden. He’s behind the counter.”
“Ohthankfuckinggod.” Aubrey collapses against her, hugging her, “I was so worried, thank you so much, I owe you, like, big time.”
Dani hugs her back, takes a deep breath, and says, “How about dinner tomorrow?”
Aubrey looks up at her and grins, “I was hoping you’d say that” she kisses her nose, “and it’s cute that you already have a pet name for me.”
“Look, I have a lot of free time during work and it’s more fun to think about you than rearrange the candy bars again.” Dani kisses her cheek, “here, the doctor is waiting for you.”
They find the rabbit lounging, legs out, as the story drifts from the nearby phone.
“You are in big trouble young man” Aubrey scoops him up and holds him tight, “you jerk, never ever scare me like that again. You’re lucky Dani found you and not a coyote. Or the Johnson’s cat.” She pauses, listening, “awww, Dani figured out your favorite book.” She smiles like a thousand stars as she says, “I loved that one as a kid. I’ve always been a big fan of vampires.”
Dani licks a fang and kisses Aubrey on the cheek again, making her laugh, “Then I have another really good piece of news for you.”

HAAAAIIII-
I’m also sorry if this is a lot this is for research purposes-
🥞☕️☀️🌌🎁📎☁️❤️💙💌💖💓
Again I’m very sorry this is a lot-
HOO BOY HERE WE GOOOO
🥞 PANCAKE - what is their comfort breakfast?
Pretty much anything sweet. This goes for any meal, but Lemon has very high sweetness and sourness tolerances, and mashing some combination of those two will usually make him happy. As for breakfast specifically…Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream.
☕️ HOT BEVERAGE - do they prefer hot or cold drinks? what is their favorite drink?
Hot drinks by a long shot. He really likes lemonade, though, obviously lol. And sweet coffee.
☀️ SUN - are they a morning person? what is the first thing they do in the morning?
ABSOLUTELY. He’s up with the sun most mornings, out at the bell tower or climbed up some tree or just…outside. He really, really likes to be outside. This means he takes a lot of naps to make up for it, usually in sunbeams or…well, outside.
🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?
Well, making Lemon properly took a day or three in total. I had his name, I had some idea of his hair (thanks, Picrew). And then I had the idea of a character you had to “figure out yourself” via dialogue and letters. I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t have most of his backstory or personal details figured out when I first started the blog. His love for inventing stuff was inspired by Da Vinci of all people. It’s a mess, but he’s supposed to evoke the attitude and vibes of a Renaissance Man-Polymath- old-style European gentleman prince thing lol
🎁 PRESENT - what types of presents would they be most happy to receive? are they good at gift giving?
He’s…okay at gift giving, although he prefers other forms of affection. He likes receiving recipes, stuffed animals, photography equipment, and plants/seeds.
📎 PAPERCLIP - a random fact.
The Taocc fae are immune to non-fae alcohol, and have a very high tolerance to fae alcohol. Lemn drinks human alcohol sometimes, for the taste.
☁️ CLOUD - a soft headcanon
Lemon loves running around his domain with people. If you end up as his adventuring partner, he obviously likes you a lot. Thus, Dark regularly gets shown around various places. He’s actually pretty upbeat, even becoming mischievous at times, although he tends to be the level-headed one of his friend groups.
❤️ RED HEART - their love language(s)?
Cuddles, adventures, love letters, and lots of gentlemanly flirting lol
💙 BLUE HEART - do they miss their s/o easily? how do they act when their s/o isn't around?
He’s not as clingy as Dark, but he does get lonely very easily. His typical anxiety over “but what if I lose everyone again” doesn’t exactly help. He acts about the same, but if his gf is around he’s a bit more open and willing to be less mysterious.
💌 LOVE LETTER - do they like love letters? what kind of messages do they leave for their partner?
Oh. Oh boy I was hoping you’d choose this one. Lemon started out only sending letters to people to communicate, and boy does he love to write them. He’ll mainly just leave his partner a little sonnet or something if he’s not around.
💖 SPARKLING HEART - are they a subtle or a showy lover?
Both, depending entirely on the situation. He prefers a balance of the two, leaning towards being more showy and elegant.
💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticable? what changes when they're in love?
It’s a bit noticeable, but years of hiding his personality have made it difficult to see. He’ll be even more polite, and compliment her more. As well as ask her if she’d like to join him on whatever endeavor he finds himself on that day.
*stares at you* /pos lemm and dark make me so happy shekdnekemd

cocktails + kinnporsche
it's very much procrastination featuring casual drinking and wiki spirals, the fuel for this episode of nobody-asked-but-listen.
cocktails: shown
1. Blue Margarita
“and for Lada…a little special, i’ll handle it”
the drink name was not mentioned but this looks to be a blue margarita:
tequlia + lime juice + blue curaçao + simple syrup + salt rim
a blue margarita introduces the colour by using blue curaçao instead of the more common orange liqueur (triple sec), which despite the decidedly unnatural colour, is an liqueur that is also orange flavoured (the colour is artificially added), and slightly more bitter than triple sec.
this was also served to tankhun during his virgin visit to yok’s bar (or at least a suspiciously similar blue drink).
🔗 Blue Margarita Recipe
2. Burnt Orange Old Fashioned
“make me a drink”
i mean, they already dropped the ingredients, it’s an (bourbon) old fashioned:
bourbon + sugar + aromatic bitters + orange rind
except! there is a slight variation.
serving an old fashioned usually involves squeezing and occasionally rubbing (no minds in the proverbial gutters) an orange peel around the cup, typically on the rim to let the citrus oil add a little extra flavour and aroma to the drink (a good cocktail tastes great and smells great, as is the common adage).
porsche torches the orange peel instead, which is interesting. the flame used might be to add some smoke and enhance the orange-y aroma (fire slightly caramelises the citrus oil).
or maybe, it’s just to add a little flair to the cocktail preparation. appreciatively, porsche taking the time and extra-ness to make a fancier old fashioned might just be an act of dominance posturing in the capacity of his station, behind the bar and beneath the unavowed threat of a bunch of mafia dudes in the bar sitting in a row like the rockettes.

🔗 The Blanchard Old Fashioned
3. Flaming B-52 Shot
“ffffiiiiirrrrreeeee”
a lit drink, literally. probably a flaming B-52 shot:
coffee liqueur + baileys + grand marnier + rum
or, a b-52 shot with flames (courtesy of the rum), served with a heatproof straw to protect the pretty faces.
porsche knows how to start a party. liquor com describes the drink as a good-looking shot that “goes down easily and is usually followed by calls for another round”, which was exactly what happened.
🔗 Flaming B-52 Shot
🔗 B-52
3. il cuore de kinn
“meaning?” “kinn’s heart”
very sweet, literally. from the short bartending kinn clip, the drink has:
honey: specifically a honey with the label “THAI HONEY” (which is also in my kitchen cabinet).
2. xii gin: it’s only in a blue bottle, which took some creative googling. had a suspicion it was a gin / tequlia / vodka of some sort, given how the drink is honey coloured (so clear alcohol, not flavoured liquors such as campari, kahua etc) and those are the usual alcohol used in mixes. xii gin is also a dry gin, which would be better for what i think this cocktail is.
3. lemon: it was on the cutting board (which is very messy, tell-tale sign that the man hasn’t worked in food service ever TT TT) with a huge chunk taken out of it, lemon juice was probably in that drink
as expected, there isn’t some ready recipe for one to be at a bar ordering kinn’s heart, but i believe this is likely a Bee’s Knees:
honey syrup + lemon juice + gin
the gin used should preferably be a dry one (see above on gin xii). the ingredients are shaken, which results in a cocktail that has a yellow hue identical to the drink that kinn is serving up — if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.
side note: point to make is that most recipes call for a honey syrup, not just honey, like kinn is doing because honey doesn’t incorporate very well being a viscous liquid, especially in cold drinks (the cocktail is usually shaken with ice, because tepid cocktails should not exist).
earlier in the same episode, the drinks the boat party attendees are also drinking a similar drink.
🔗 Gin XII Provence
🔗 Thai Honey (Longon)
🔗 Bee’s Knees
🔗 Bee’s Knees Cocktail
cocktails: mentioned
1. Pink Lady
“for this beautiful Jang. Pink lady”
well, porsche sure knows how to pick em drinks, pretty drink for a pretty lady:
gin + applejack + lemon juice + grenadine + egg white
it looks cute and tastes more of candy than spirits but there is a lot of alcohol in the drink.
2. Shaken Vodka Martini
“and the charming kaproy, vodka martini, shaken, not stirred”
to remember that a customer prefers vodka (martinis are also commonly made with gin) in her shaken (martinis can also be stirred) martini is why porsche deserve a lot of drink tips.
this is also popularly known as the james bond drink:
vodka + vermouth + olives
shaking vs stirring
shaking a cocktail (usually with ice) dilutes the drink more (making it weaker) and chills the liquids faster, nothing you wouldn’t expect from going for a rough tumble with ice.
gin vs vodka
gin tastes “botanical” (herby) and vodka is easier to drink (aka less complex).
🔗 Classic Vodka Martini Recipe

🔗 James Bond requested that his Martini be "shaken not stirred"? Would it make any difference?
others
1. A T Beer
“what are you doing here”
i don’t think this beer is an actual product. the too-obvious placement should have tipped me off. Chang comes into mind when i think about a thai beer that also use green glass bottles.
🔗 Thai Beer Culture and the Most Popular Beers in Thailand
2. Remy Martin Louis XIII
“do what you want to do”
it’s an expensive cognac, more than a month of my wage kind of expensive. the slight confusion in the bottle being the Louis XIII (the cognac, not the french king) but the cap being more Martin XO (does not cost my monthly wage).
🔗 Remy Martin Louis XIII 700ml w/Gift Box
🔗 Remy Martin XO 700ml w/ Gift Box
3. Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic Water
“welcome to hum bar!”
not an alcohol but a mixer still counts right?
🔗 Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic Water Bottle
4. Generic Whiskey
maybe it’s bourbon, or scotch. it is just a brownish drink in a nice glass usually served from a crystal decanter and whiskey fulfils fictional tropes of both the mafia and rich people. the bar at the back also seem to only contain whiskey bottles.
5. Generic Champagne
it could be prosecco, but i’m not going to insult the Theerapanyakun wealth like that.
(okay, that's all)

Energy shots-cocktails to boost immunity
Such shots-cocktails can be made independently at home – you will only need a juicer and a couple of other devices that can be found in every kitchen. The most important task of energy shots is to increase immunity. You can maintain your health by drinking these cocktails in the morning several times a week, as well as during colds and fatigue.
Natural shots based on fresh juices, spices, and superfoods will help you improve your athletic performance with regular use. They will increase energy, give your face a fresh, radiant look, and replace (partially or completely) medications during a cold.
Some of the recipes may seem very simple to you. Each of the ingredients is full of vitamins and minerals.
Healthy white grass cocktails
Daily consumption of wheat germ juice will raise your tone, and mood and charge you with energy for the whole day (of course, provided that it is fresh juice). You can combine wiregrass with any fruits and vegetables, because they all contain nutrients, and each of them has its own effect on the work of the body.
Not everyone likes to drink wiregrass in its pure form, so we offer you several delicious recipes for vitamin cocktails. So, in each cocktail, there are 2 tablespoons of wiregrass and 2 tablespoons of juice from other useful plants.
Coffee Whitegrass
This recipe is suitable for lovers of morning coffee, provided that all the rules are followed, you will be energized for the whole day. So, after a cup of your favorite morning coffee, drink 2 tablespoons of wiregrass. And then, within 1-2 hours, drink at least 2 glasses of water.
With ginger
After you try this cocktail, you will appreciate its name Mix 2 tablespoons of wheat germ juice with juice, 1 teaspoon of ginger, Snack on this splendor with a slice of lemon, and drink a glass of clean water.
With mint
This recipe is one of the most delicious because, for 2 tablespoons of wiregrass, you can take as much mint juice as your heart desires. Mint cleanses the blood and removes toxins, do not neglect it.
With grapes
In this recipe, you should mix the juice of wheat sprouts with grape juice. But the grapes should be red, it contains quartzine, which is an antioxidant and antihistamine. It also contains saponins, which react with cholesterol and prevent it from entering the bloodstream.
Lemon Whitegrass
Here everything is very simple, mix 2 tablespoons of wiregrass and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Lemon contains antioxidants, so in combination with the juice of wheat sprouts, it gives a healing effect for the whole body.
You can combine wiregrass with any fruits and vegetables because they all contain nutrients.
Spirulina Shot
The powder from this seaweed consists of exactly half of the protein, which makes it the number one product for vegans and vegetarians. In addition, spirulina prevents premature aging, and has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the liver, strengthening the barrier mechanisms and increasing the level of purification of the body from toxins and toxins.
Along with this, it effectively restores the intestinal microflora and helps to reduce the amount of sugar in the blood. Just dilute half a teaspoon of spirulina with water and drink as quickly as possible, the taste of spirulina is very peculiar.
Proportions for two servings: 1/2 cup water, and 1/4 teaspoon spirulina powder.
Red cabbage and apple shot
Red cabbage juice is rich in vitamin B, and is able to stop the growth of cancer cells and cure stomach diseases. Folic acid, contained in red cabbage juice, has a positive effect on women's health and is especially necessary for pregnant women.
Proportions for two servings: 7.0 oz red cabbage (without stalk), 1 red apple, and juice of 1/2 lemon.
Ginger, lemon, and apple shot
This shot will help to cope with poor digestion, constipation, and bloating. If you drink this shot in the morning, then ginger from the very beginning of the day will set the right settings for digestion. In addition to all of the above, ginger, along with lemon, is super support for the immune system, which is weakened in almost all residents of the metropolis, especially those who do not get enough sleep, are nervous a lot, and do not have time to regularly eat properly. And yes, never remove the skin from the root of ginger, it contains many useful trace elements! It is better to thoroughly wash the root.
Proportions for two servings: 1 apple, a piece of ginger, 1 teaspoon 1/2 lemon.
Anti-cold shot
Ingredients: ginger, lemon, turmeric, orange.
Turmeric is a natural antiseptic that can replace instant powders and pills at the time of a cold. Half a teaspoon will do the trick with regular use. You can also add a small piece of red hot pepper. This shot will help to clear up the toxins that often cause drowsiness, apathy, and weakened immunity.
Proportions for two servings: 1 teaspoon ginger, 1/2 lemon, 2 oranges, and a pinch of turmeric.

Most of the water I drink involves this recipe: 1 oz lemon or lime juice
1/4 tsp pure powdered stevia extract (non-diabetics can put in a couple tablespoons of sugar)
1/8 tsp potassium chloride (morton's nusalt)
For rehydration purposes, please add 1/4 tsp salt ALTERNATIVELY 1/4 tsp of "Morton's Lite Salt" which is 50/50 sodium and potassium.
this all goes in a 32 oz mason jar which then gets filled so approximately 31 oz of water. This generates a citrus flavored beverage with electrolytes that is not super sweet but sweet enough to be easily drunk in quantity. This can be adjusted to your medical needs, as some people are on low potasssium or low sodium diets due to medications or kidney stones or whatever, but if you're sweating you do need some sodium in there and if you're cramping you need the potassium, and possibly magnesium, but I take the mag separately. People with POTS can probably double the salt or more. I keep a dedicated shot glass for the lemon juice and dedicated measuring spoons that magnet to the fridge for the electrolytes.
Compared to most rehydration beverages people buy single-serve, this ends up being quite affordable. Pure lemon juice (not concentrate, no preservatives) runs about $8 for 32 oz, which is 32 servings. Morton's lite salt is like, 2-3 bucks for 11 oz and you use a quarter teaspoon at a time so it's SUPER cheap.
The stevia: I get mine from Trader Joe's for about $10 per canister but again, 1/4 teaspoon at a time. With tart foods there's no aftertaste if you don't oversweeten. (this works with coffee, tea, chocolate and tart citrus very well.) Anyway, plain water leaves my mouth feeling dry, this gets me to drink more.
if you are dealing with extreme heat or even just. moderate heat in your area right now. 80f/26c is when it starts getting toasty for a lot of people. if you are in a heat wave and you have not done yourself the favor of googling fucking "heat exhaustion symptoms" i am shaking you violently right now. look it up. burn the symptoms into your brain. heatstroke is no joke and it can and WILL sneak up on you before you're aware it's even an issue. ohh my god

Italian Dish Spotlights Pt. 1
Carbonara
The carbonara, a roman pasta dish, typically consists of a tube-type or spaghetti pasta (I prefer rigatoni) which is tossed with a mixture of egg yolks, pecorino (and/or parmigiano), black pepper, and pasta water. The dish is topped with a hefty handful of guanciale (a cured pork jowl similar to pancetta) and more black pepper. My favorite pasta by far and a unanimously loved white pasta. Man this is delicious… I am honestly salivating just thinking about it. The dish is creamy from the emulsifying yolk sauce, salty and meaty and fatty from the guanciale, and nutty-spicy from the generous black pepper. This was actually my favorite pasta long before I came to Italy, but the best carbonara I ate by far were those in Italy. I look forward to making this according to my host mothers recipe.
Pizza
I mean, while I’m here… I will likely make a separate post just for pizza, but I’ll be brief here. There are many different variations of the pizza that come from all over Italy. Roman style ‘pizza al taglio’ is a large, rectangular pizza with a thick, almost focaccia-ey crust and all types of toppings. In these restaurants, which are frequented by the youth on nights out, all you need to do is indicate how much of a certain flavor of pizza you’d like and they’ll heat it up and you’ll be on your way. There are micro-categories of pizza from Bari, Sicily, etc. Most notable is the Napoletana style of pizza, of course. The soft, bubbly, and lovingly burnt crust that cradles delicious and fresh ingredients with emphases on good quality tomatoes is unmissable.
Pasticciotti
A typical pastry from my host region. They are typically an oval of thick short-crust that is often filled with plain custard but can be found with ricotta, nutella, various fruit, pistachio, and mixed fillings. Quite good, however, Its old-fashionedness does in fact display how behind Italy stands on the sweets and pastries train.
Cafe Leccese
A delicious coffee drink also native to my Lecce province (but said to have navigated there from the Iberian peninsula), and one of the only times Europeans willingly choose to utilize ice. Usually a double shot of espresso over ice with a heaping tablespoon of ‘latte di mandorla’ which, although it literally translates to almond milk, is a very thick and very almond almond syrup with a touch of lemon that is made in Puglia. It’s recipe is deceptively simple, and the drink has a complex, sweet, and refreshing flavor that was perfect for the bitingly hot mornings on which I simply could not drink a hot cappuccino.

To keep this company, here's a recipe based on several we found on-line:
Fresh Ginger Syrup About 2 cups (.5l)
The ginger doesn’t need peeled; the only result will be a slightly darker syrup. However, if you plan to reuse the eventually-candied ginger for anything, do peel it. This ginger can be added to marmalade as-is, or patted dry, minced, also to just-churned ice cream or ginger biscuit dough.
(It's also very good stirred into yogurt; some of this ginger, and some chopped pineapple, some nuts and some honey, makes thick creamy Greek-style yogurt - or genuine Greek if you can get it - into something amazing. Maybe not Ambrosia of Olympus, but it'll do until ambrosia is available in the shops.)
The syrup is quite spicy (add some of that to the yogurt too) and if the first batch is too zippy, next time blanch the chopped ginger in boiling water, simmer for a couple of minutes, then drain and proceed with the recipe.
(On the other hand, if you like or more serious zip, include one or two dried bird’s-eye chillies at stage 2. I've also used a dried habanero chilli, to excellent effect. Quite apart from the heat, its fruity flavour works well with ginger.)
8 ounces (225g) fresh ginger, unpeeled
(a couple of chopped fresh or dried chillies, optional)
4 cups (1l) water
2 cups (400g) sugar
pinch salt
(One of the original source recipes warned not to double up quantities to make more syrup; make multiple separate batches using the quantities shown. There was no explanation why, but possibly doubled quantities don't cook down to syrup properly, or take too long, or... Just make it in batches, okay?)
1. Cut the ginger into thin slices then rock a knife over it to chop it into rough, smaller pieces.
(Don’t use a food-processor: the resulting minced ginger is too fine and the syrup won’t strain properly.)
2. Put the ginger, water, sugar, and salt (and chillies, if used) in a non-reactive saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes to one hour, or until reduced by half.
3. Cool, then strain through muslin, bottle or jar and store in the refrigerator. It should keep for at least two weeks.
(It will also freeze: pour the syrup into an ice-cube tray, freeze, break out and transfer the cubes to a bag or plastic box. Do this quickly so the cubes don't thaw enough to glue together into a single lump.)
To make ginger soda: Fill glasses 1/3rd full with syrup, add a generous squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice and plenty of ice then top with sparkling water. Stir gently to mix and garnish with a round of citrus and/or sprig of fresh mint.
(We've got a fizzy-water-maker; this works splendidly; also try adding a TINY splash of balsamic vinegar.)
Other Uses: A cocktail base with bourbon, whiskey, rum. Sweeten iced tea or coffee. Drizzle over fruit salad.
(Also add to Jagertee / Kaffee - strong black tea or coffee with a shot of booze, great in chilly weather, standard at Christmas Markets in Germany etc.)
Mint Lemon Simple Syrup
This Mint Lemon Simple Syrup is one of the most versatile simple syrups that you can make! Perfect for cocktails, sparkling water or stirred into iced tea!
