i love the…. almost horror aspects of this album. all the references to ghosts and death…. and sonically, the unexpected shrieking in WAOLOM and the banging and screaming during “old habits die screaming” and even the way the tension subtly builds across the sixteen tracks and by the end you’re so stressed and shaken it’s like! losing your sense of self and feeling like you’ve become a monster is horror. and i’m sooooo glad she leaned into it

I wanted to ask you about Hitchcock 😔 If you're willing to answer, which movies of his do you think are overrated and which do you think are actually good? He's my most watched director (because film school) but I only genuinely like a few of his films and always disagreed with my classmates about which ones were the best

I feel like I'm holding up a Daffy Duck style sign that says "shoot me" because Hitchcock is so well thought of by cinephiles versus me, the basic horny mod who watches movies with hot people in them. With that said, I remember Rope, Dial M for Murder, North by Northwest, and To Catch a Thief all left me a bit flat, because I felt like he was prioritizing pushing technical limits or creating extravagant images over deeper characters and relationships. I love a good technical limit-pushing, but it needs to serve the story! And sometimes I feel like he has an idea he wants to try or an image he wants to show and puts so much focus on developing it that characters' reality and interest kind of falls by the wayside—they become pawns navigating his situations, instead of interesting characters in their own right.

To be fair, this is more a characteristic of his later work than his early work—The Lady Vanishes is one of my favorite movies, and I remember Notorious and Spellbound both being enjoyable when I watched them a few years ago. Again, basic film watcher here. Don't show this post to the Criterion collection.

This actually just makes me so happy

I had a dream last night where basically, instead of the TF One quartet (well actually it was just Orion and D-16, tragically I don’t think my subconscious cares enough about the other two) getting their T-Cogs and new frames via magic transformation, they instead like, fell down a chute or something that put them on some assembly line where they got reassembled bit by bit into their new forms

They didn’t even realize what happened for a little bit afterwards until they realized they looked different now. It was like, a sudden thing and they couldn’t really get out, they were just sort of freaking out while it was happening

The way it actually works in the movie is fine and cool, I just thought this alternate scenario my brain cooked up sounded kind of neat

So I guess I'm making another post about the things I want from a Never Ending Sorry adaptation, but will sadly never get

Once again, we need to return to the original name of Fantastica. They changed the name when making it the first time to make it sound more "Disney" and that's dumb. You can't go changing the name of a stories world, that would be like renaming Middle-Earth

Once again, we can not see The Nothing in the new adaptation. It is not a black and imposing storm. Neither is it accompanied by one. It is absence, it is nothing, and looking upon it gives you a sense of blindness

A new one, I think doing a Never Ending Story movie like a Terry Pratchett miniseries would be immensely fun. Like The Color of Magic or The Hogfather. I just think it would be fun, and would help explain aspects of the story that had to get dropped in the previous adaptation

In case it was not already clear. The adaptation can not be like the original Disney movie, or like any of its sequels. It needs to be more like the original book. I'm not the most sure how that can happen, maybe it should be a show(a real show with 24 episodes) instead of a movie, but it needs to happen

I'm half asleep and running basically entirely on hyperfixation fumes so this thought process might be literally nothing but I'm thinking about how we as the viewer don't get to start making decisions in the Markiplier Cinematic Universe Canon until after the DA's death in WKM. We experience the entire series through their point of view and it's presumed we continue to inhabit their character throughout the canon (at least through date and heist, I'm ignoring space for my purposes bc my grasp on how that fits into the story is fuzzy at best on a good day lmao) but it isn't until after the events of wkm have played out that we start making decisions on their behalf

But anyways something something at the end of wkm they die at the hands of Wil, and they give up their body to Damien and Celine, and their story to Mark, and their autonomy to the viewer. Someone who isn't eepy as hell turn this into a more coherent line of thought for me

Just watched Funny Games (2007) for the Tim Roth whump because I watched a few gifsets and liked what I saw… Anyway, I have never been more pissed off at a movie IN MY LIFE and not in a fun cathartic way. This movie is, in fact, the polar opposite of catharsis.
