Hello! I noticed that there were flecks of gold and green in Genma's eyes, and yours almost look blue sometimes, so I was wondering...
Could we have a close-up of each? Pleeeeaase?

Yo,
Since screwing has been heavy on everyone's minds, let's flip the script. Intimacy comes in all brands. What's something you notice your comrades do when they see you getting frayed? Are they quiet? Or is it Raidou &Gai dragging you outta bed for a spar & round at the bar?
Kakashi is allergic to the full spectrum of emotions, he usually leaves me with a dog and runs away.
Anko tends to distract me with analysis, asking for my help with a chemistry problem or some pestering about a new venom or poison.
Raidou takes me out for drinks and I usually end up crying into his toilet while he holds my hair, then sleeping on his couch for the next week.
Gai gives amazing hugs, second to only Chouza sensei. He’s surprisingly gentle and is usually against sparing when I’m not at a hundred percent.
Sensei doesn’t always have time to offer an ear or a shoulder, but I tend to come home to a meal in the fridge with a note asking to meet up sometime to discuss something or another.
Ibiki offers sparing or drinks and a movie. It’s fun to critique bad action movies or cheesy romcoms when a little tipsy and leaning against a giant human heater.
Hayate offers a night of boardgames with him and Yugao, sometimes with Izumo and Kotetsu too. Uno and Monopoly are done under supervision only and no weapons allowed.
Kurenai is a self care queen and on the rare days we actually cross paths it’s an all day event of deep conditioning, pedicures, face masks, and playing with makeup. Mirai is adorable and loves to ‘help’ and often paints my toenails. And everything else in the vicinity but it’s cute.

Had some OC x canon content in mind: What would it be like if Kino Sōden/Usuki existed in the Narutoverse?
Her story will take place in a brighter AU, unlike the original manga (I just want everyone to be happy)

*Note: In case you missed who the hell is Inebi Sarutobi. I’m just too lazy to make another appearance for her, the same goes for Yūgen :p

Just Go - GenRai
TEEN+ // ALSO ON AO3 Words: 1,327 Warnings: Angst, implied/referenced character death, Genma is drunk and sad
Umm.... So I found this in my WIPs on my google docs... it was already complete... So here's your reminder that even though I haven't actually written anything completely new in a few years, I can still break your hearts. :)
Genma has made a mistake.
He realizes that now as the other man lays him out flat, his head spinning from a combination of the alcohol and the hit he just took, the dirty bar floor sticky and hard beneath his aching cheek. Why had he gotten into this mess, he asks himself as he pushes himself up with a wince, groaning when the other man kicks him back down, boot heavy on his back.
"Where do you think you're going?" he demands, pushing harder when Genma tries to get up again, and Genma groans at the pressure on his ribs. "What, you start a fight you can't finish and now you're trying to run?" Oh, man, he is way too drunk for this.
"Get off me," he mutters, swinging wildly at the other man's leg, a swift kick to the side subduing him once more. "Get off!"
"Hey!" Relief floods through him when a new voice joins the fray, and he takes a gasping breath when the foot lifts from his back. Raidou. "What are you doing?"
"He came at me," the guy tries defending himself, but Raidou's not hearing any of it, and suddenly he's on the floor by Genma, out cold.
"Come on," Raidou says, grabbing Genma's hand and pulling him to his feet, turning his head to examine the swelling of his cheek, already beginning to bruise. "Damn, he got you good. What happened?"
"Nothing," Genma mutters, half-heartedly swatting his hand away, stumbling into Raidou's side when he tries to take a step toward the exit. He grumbles a pathetic attempt at a protest when Raidou wraps an arm around him to keep him steady. "Stop, Rai, I'm fine."
"Fine?" Raidou scoffs, tightening his grip when Genma tries to push him away. "Please, Genma, you haven't been sober for a week, and I don't believe for a second this is the first fight you've gotten into in that time. You are not fine." Genma has no response - Raidou isn’t wrong. But he doesn't know how else to deal with everything that's happened.
The thing is, Genma's not an idiot. He's a shinobi - he knows that death isn't just normal, it's expected, but something about this one had hit him harder than any other loss he had ever experienced. Perhaps it was because he'd always been so careful to distance himself, never letting anyone get too close, but he was human, after all, and everybody craves connection... so he'd let someone in. And gods, what a mistake that had been.
In hindsight, coming to the bar tonight had probably been a mistake, too, but now all he wants is to stay here and keep drinking. Instead, he allows Raidou to lead him away, through the quiet streets to his apartment. Neither of them say another word for a long while, and Genma is oddly okay with it - there's not much to say, anyway, and definitely nothing that could make any of this any better.
"Rai..." Genma looks up at him, bathed in the soft glow of the streetlight, and he's never seen anything so beautiful... and so absolutely heartbreaking. "Rai, why are you here?"
"I'm here for you," he answers simply, glancing down at him. The small, sad smile on his face makes Genma want to cry. "You can push me away all you want, Gen, but I'm always going to be here for you." That hurts, in ways he can't even begin to put words to, and he draws closer to Raidou as they take the steps up to his apartment door, releasing him only to unlock the front door and push it open before pulling him close once more.
Genma can't remember the last time he had allowed himself this simple comfort, the warmth of Raidou pressed against his side - all he knows is that he has missed this, and he does not want it to end. So he clings to it, clings to Raidou as long as he can, until Raidou delivers him to his bed and pulls away. He feels empty, utterly hollow as he watches Raidou walk away, too drunk and too tired to give chase.
"Stay," he mumbles before he can stop himself, and Raidou pauses in the doorway, glancing over his shoulder at him once more. That smile is back, and despite the sight of Raidou turning and walking over to him, laying on the bed beside him, he feels something inside of him shatter. "Please... just stay." His voice breaks as he pulls Raidou in, burying his face in his chest and repeating that single word like it's the only one he knows. "Stay."
It's what he can't say that fills what little space remains between them, heavy on the tip of his tongue, catching in his throat. Not just tonight. Please, Raidou, please I'm begging you don't ever leave me again. But he can't say it - because all the reasons Genma wants Raidou to stay are all the reasons he knows he can't.
"I love you," he chokes out, fists clenching around the fabric of Raidou's shirt, and then he releases him, looking up to meet his eyes. His own burn with tears. He shouldn't have asked him to stay. "But you can't be here. You need to go."
"Genma-"
"I said go!" Genma is out of the bed in an instant, stumbling over his own feet as he backs away. This is too much, the sight of him sitting there on his bed, looking more hurt than he has ever seen him, and for a brief moment, he feels a twinge of regret - but he also knows he is right to do this, even if it is killing him.
"Not until you tell me why," Raidou says, standing and walking over to him, stopping when Genma takes another step back. "You don't get to tell me you love me and then shove me out the door without at least telling me why."
"Because you died!" Genma yells, and actually saying it out loud steals the breath right from his lungs. He doubles over with a harsh gasp, wrapping his arms around himself and clutching at his ribs hard enough to bruise. He has never wanted to die as much as he does in that moment, the agony of it sending him to his knees with a broken sob. "You're dead, Rai, and I... I can't. I can't do this. Please. Please."
Silence falls over the room, broken only by his sobbing, gasping breaths, the pain that had made its home in his chest tightening around his heart, slipping between the cracks in the fragile pieces of himself he'd been trying so hard to hold together and breaking them apart once more. This has wrecked him, in a way he had once sworn he would never let himself be wrecked, in a way he's still not entirely sure he'll survive - in a way he's not sure he even wants to survive.
"Genma..." Raidou kneels in front of him, and his arms wrapping around him feels so warm, so real, that he can't help but let himself sag forward against him, pressing his face to his chest once more. "I loved you, too, you know." His voice breaks, and he holds Genma closer. "I loved you, too."
"Don't." He knows it's not real, that his mind is creating this hallucination, telling him what he wants to hear - in life, Raidou had never wanted Genma the way Genma wanted him. Death didn't change that. "Please, Rai, just go."
Exhaustion settles deep into Genma's bones as Raidou releases him, and he can't bear to watch as he stands and leaves him. Again. For good. He expects it to hurt - to feel the anguish of losing the love of his life all over again, but instead, he just feels empty.
And he knows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that with Raidou gone, that feeling will never go away.

Sitting at the bar, Kurenai drags her finger down the side of a glass, wet from condensation. Raidou sits beside her, picking at some grilled fish. Sticks some in his mouth, not talking since they’re both ashamed of what they’ve done, how things are, that they let it get to this point. The bar is crowded, full of patrons celebrating the end of another terrible work week with the people they care about. Sick cosmic joke, it all is.
There’s a woman to Kurenai’s side, leaning across the bar. Hair up in a clip, loudly talking about how her best friend is getting married. Arm around said best friend’s shoulders, as they finish each other’s sentences. It offends Kurenai, because she remembers when she was in her baby twenties and could be that happy girl in a bar. Smile with all her teeth and mean everything she says, drunk babbling and woo-wooing, liquid courage making it easy to believe that everything will be a-okay.
We should be this happy. It feels like they are never going to get their turn. Kurenai traces a heart on the bar. Elbow on the counter, chin on her fist, head tilted as she starts to make different shapes—circles, stars, diamonds. Crude flowers, simple Xs, different words all to do with love and hope. She wants to be that girl again, the one who believed that her life could turn out happy.
“Do you think we’re soulmates?” Kurenai asks the question, even though she knows Raidou’s answer. Their struggles are evidence, Kurenai is certain of it.
Raidou chews for a minute, swallows his food before he answers because he was raised the right way. Turns to look at her too, this flat expression on his face. “Yeah.” He smiles when Kurenai scoffs, putting her hand over her mouth to smile into her palm. “I wasn’t even joking.”
“Shut up.” Kurenai tries to sound threatening, but she’s still smiling, silly girl because it’s Raidou doing the talking. He sets down the chopsticks he was using to pick at the fish, then turns his body to give her his full attention.
“Well, what do you think?” Raidou asks, looking right at her. It’s not hostile or confrontation either. His eyes are soft, like he can really see her.
“I think that I’ve found you in every lifetime before, and will continue to find you in every lifetime after this one.” Kurenai leans over and tilts her chin down, pretending to glare right at him but smiles at the end to show that she doesn’t mean intentional harm.
Raising an eyebrow, Raidou lets out a wheeze. “That sounds an awful lot like a threat.”
“It’s a promise!”
“Every threat is a promise.” This is something that Raidou sincerely believes too. Has told her as much when he tells her that her love is always pointed right at his throat as if she is waiting for him to no longer be who he says he is.
“I promise to keep finding you in every lifetime,” Kurenai sits up straight, smiles at him to seal it, like she did when they were kids and coming up with plans and strategies for their missions. Puts a hand over her heart as if to swear upon it.
“You promise?” Raidou’s voice changes into something so much softer, more tender. It doesn’t fit this loud, noisy bar where people are talking fast and loud about their shit jobs and terrible love lives. Jokes about blowing up office buildings and raising ancient demons the background noise to a serious conversation about the laws of their universe.
“I promise.” Kurenai picks up her drink, takes a sip, then another while Raidou appears to think about it for a moment.
“So, you think we’ve done this before?”
“And we’ll keep doing it in the future.” Kurenai doesn’t know any other way to be.

self-ish/sacrifice
Tumblr media
oc | gen word count: 0.7k
He doesn't fear death.
After brushing so close to it so young, Tae felt its presence everywhere - especially after graduating the academy and having to face it on the front lines, even under the guidance of his sensei. His older sibling had lost both parents before he could meet their father, and hell if he could remember his own mother's face.
Its cold hand is a constant staple in the life of a shinobi, so Tae has no reason to fear it since it comes for them all. No matter how powerful, every great ninja in history succumbed to the chill of death. Orochimaru was driven mad in the pursuit of escaping it. Not that he felt bad for the sick bastard.
His only request was that it's tender with him after the pain of his flesh ceases trying to keep him tethered to the mortal world. That it's kinder than man.
Paired with Taeru's pesky habit of making sure the missions he was put in charge of succeeded at any cost but his comrades, he's developed a bit of a taste for self-sacrifice.
" R a i d o u ! ! ! "
A chill went up Namiashi's spine when he heard his childhood friend's voice pierce through the trees from where he ran. His blood ran cold on arrival, watching Genma fuss over his younger brother's weakening pulse, his quick, shallow breathes and the way Tae's eyes seemed to glaze over.
Iwashi was already present, not much older than the dying boy before him and yet he was expected to perform the Flying Thunder Formation with his seniors in an attempt to save him. He'd never seen Shiranui show this much emotion before, let alone this upset, but Raidou was familiar with the panic, the tightness of his jaw around that senbon in an attempt to steel himself.
There was only so much Genma's cursory healing as a field medic could do against the poison circulating his system without the proper equipment, after all.
Iwashi felt sorry for him, though, the poison was strong enough that it looked like his skin around the point of entry was already necrotizing.
After several grueling hours of treatment at the closest hospital they could find, the wayward screaming every now and then until the patient's throat was raw, and the nausea his body produced to flush every trace of toxin from his system, Shiranui emerged haggard. Genma proved to be invaluable as someone who could produce an antidote, but he couldn't do much by way of actually helping his brother's healing along.
In the morning, Tae admitted how he'd gotten there in the first place.
"Nakamura-san had the documents so I gave her the antidote and told Hokuto to head home with her. We were both poisoned and I didn't have the energy to get on Hoku's back." Tae mentioned weakly, recalling the way his squad mate had looked at him when he jabbed the serum into her thigh and told his summoning owl to fly as high and fast as he could to Konoha.
"Did Raidou and Iwashi already leave? I sensed their chakra yesterday." He asked between coughs, prompting the older nin to pour him a glass of water. "Surprised you could make out much of anything then, kid, considering how quickly your brain was turning to soup. They left earlier to catch up with our intended squad. 'm staying until backup arrives."
"I've caused you trouble again, haven't I." Genma's brows only furrowed further, helping his brother take small sips to ease his throat.
"Don't talk. Don't waste the energy."
"I'm sorry. I was prioritizing the mission. I'm sorry."
It's a soft, remorseful sound that stitches thorns between Genma's ribs, sinks the sting of citrus in an open wound into his lungs. He wants to be mad, furious that Tae still won't prioritize his own safety. Shinobi rules be damned, he can hear his baby brother wheeze from a full night of coughing and throwing up stomach acid between trying to stifle any noise he'd make in pain.
It wouldn't kill the kid to be a little selfish, by even just a bit. Especially with his life on the line.
Please, please, start being a little more selfish.

What little things remind you of home?
Hmm.
Green, any shade. Petricor, ozone, the smell of chemicals in a quiet lab.
Anko's laughter, the little rumble Kakashi makes in his chest when he's happy and not sure how to say it, Raidou's ugly green afghan on his couch, a fresh pack of senbon.
A too big shirt, a bed that's not mine but safe all the same.
The smell of antiseptic and the chill of the hospital. A raspy laugh that turns into a cough more often than not.
The smell of weapon oil, white masks and soft eyes behind them.
... Those kinda things.
