Posted @withregram • @thewintersgroup "The minority tax refers to the additional duties placed on professionals who are part of marginalized groups to achieve DEI goals. Make no mistake ☝️: many are asked to serve on every diversity committee across the organization as the token Native, Black, LGBTQ, Asian or Latinx person. While it is extremely important to center their perspectives in this work, a lack of diversity within an organization means that a few people carry the weight of facilitating change. When DEI work is not directly tied to the position employees were hired for, it most often becomes unpaid labor while also taking a significant amount of time and energy. This all-too-common scenario can lead to feelings of tokenization, quick burnout and decreased productivity in areas directly related to their position and career advancement. 🗣 If we would not expect white men to work for free or take on additional labor without some trade-offs, why then do we expect this of people of color and women?" On The Inclusion Solution, Melissa Faircloth shares her own experience as a Native American with the minority tax and offers a few considerations to be mindful of. Let’s normalize “calling in Black.” Cause when I tell you I am overwhelmed at times and it affects my job performance, I know I’m doing too much! I need to sit down somewhere sometimes. Posted @withregram • @melanatedwomenshealth “@evelynfromtheinternets ...rather than physical sickness, we’re calling in because the constant exposure to trauma in the Black community, day after day is taking an emotional toll I’m not sure any of us imagined. It’s not possible for everyone, but If you’re able to “Call in Black” then do it without guilt. Take the personal day, sick day or whatever other day you can to unplug from forcing yourself to be part of spaces that don’t affirm you. For those who can’t take off work, “Calling in Black” can also look like a time out. A time out from obsessively scrolling the news, watching the videos or getting sucked into online debates. Let yourself breathe.” Source: The case for "calling in Black": why we must take time to tend to our racial trauma Correction to graphic text: Gentle #ProfessionalBlackGirl#TherapyForBlackGirls#RacialTrauma#GenerationalHealing#TraumaHealing#BlackMenTalHealthMatters https://www.instagram.com/p/CN-8Dogryd7/?igshid=uldea8uvnu3c

#Repost @emobunnycomic with @get_repost ・・・ Took a break from insta to work on some personal projects and to participate in an interview with ARTivism! We were on @theyddsho! See it in my bio! My final piece in the BLM show I organized with ARTivism Initiative is an essay published by @allenhoustonmagazine. It’s about my journey as a Black girl growing up in a discriminatory white community. By using art therapy and advocating for my healing while living with GAD, PTSD and agoraphobia due to racial trauma, I found a way to start healing. My hope in sharing my story is to help other Black ppl in similar situations to feel more comfortable sharing theirs and to know they're not alone in their experiences. Please read the whole essay whether here or in my bio, and follow the mag! It was published in early summer, but as time goes on with all these tragedies, I realize how many Black ppl go through similar experiences. . . . . Something that irks me as I share my story is being told I’m vulnerable as a compliment. My Mom wrote about this recently, and it fully encapsulates my feelings around the word. See below: . . . . I don’t share my story from a place of vulnerability. I know they’re saying this from a place of kindness, and I appreciate the thought. However, I want to be very clear that I’m fully grounded in gratitude for all that has passed. I couldn’t share this work if I were vulnerable. I’m no longer susceptible and I’m not looking for pity or forgiveness...I’ve worked hard to confront my inner demons, and I’m at peace and grateful to have faced these sufferings, and to have come out the other side alive. I no longer look back for absolution; I only look to reflect and to continue improving my life for a better future. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #blackwomen #blackgirls #supportblackart #blackartist #blackart #blackartists #supportblackartists #racialtrauma #ptsd #anxiety #anxietyrecovery #blackmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #blackmentalhealthmatters #arttherapy #activism #mystory #racism #antiracism #healing #essaywriting #trauma #selfcare #womenofcolor #blackwomen #instaartist #artist #blacklivesmatter #blm #blackwriters (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEps1qLjWLI/?igshid=lr24fro7v4pm

Stormy Faye The Christian Runaway Dallas, Texas June 27, 2017 6:57 AM Pressed for time, so I fast walked/sprinted down the sidewalk along my apartment complex to not be late for the morning bus commute. A Dallas PD cruiser is slowly approaching from the intersection. As it approached closer and passed by me, several real world events raced through my head. My survival instincts went from thoughts of the morning commute and a growling stomach to low-level Code Red. My first instinctive thought was, "Should I stop running?" My second instinctive thought was "Should I slow down to walk?" My third instinct thought was, "I don't want to get shot for running in public." I feel such relief that it was a non-event, but my tense muscles are a reminder that my beautiful melanin can be seen as a scary threat to some people. I'm thankful that I'm here, unharmed to share this post. #ThoughtsOfAnInnocentBlackPerson #BlackInAmerica #MyBlackExperiences #BlackLivesMatter #BLM #FirstWorldProblems #RacialProfiling #FearThePoliceMoreThanACriminal #PoliceQuotas #MakeItHomeAlive #TheBlackTalk #StaySafe #Stressed #Triggered #PTSD #RacialTrauma #FacebookMemories #Facebook #Instagram #Explore #ThinkingOutLoud P.S.
