to say i miss you doesn't even begin to capture the despair your absence has brought me.

"The beauty of human connection defies logic, tradition, and our inherent beliefs. It drives our need for passion, touch, and understanding from those who see us as we are, not as we pretend to be."

I’m stuck with you.
And if we don’t find our way back to each other,
Then I’ll look for you in every person I’m with,
And break my heart over and over again,
because I’ll never find in another what I once had with you.
Every heartbreak is worth it if I get even just a glimpse of what we once were.

"You know what I think? I think this whole concept of women being docile and obedient is nothing but wishful thinking. Or why would you put so much effort into lying to us? Into crippling our bodies? Into coercing us with made-up morals you claim are sacred? You insecure men, you're afraid. You can force us into compliance, but, deep down, you know you can't force us to truly love and respect you. And without love and respect, there will always be a seed of hatred and resistance. Growing. Festering. Waiting."

I have been longing for something I couldn’t name. And until now, there are no right words to really describe what I have been longing for. Maybe it doesn’t have a name after all.

"How fortunate we were who still had hope, I did not then realise; I could not know how soon the time would come when we should have no more hope, and yet be unable to die."

my grandma used to recite the saying "is it better to have loved and lost or to have never loved at all?" and every time my answer would be that i would have rather not loved at all.
she would smile then, and say "then you did not love". i didn't understand what she meant. of course i had loved. i had a broken heart, didn't i? i had the scar to prove it, the inability to eat. i had loved and wished i hadn't. i loved, i thought.
and then i met you, and i fell in love and then i lost you and now i understand because i would feel this pain over and over again just to love you for five extra minutes. i would fix my heart and hand it back to you without hesitation. "look! it's all better now! you can try again" i would tell you, i would cry it out hysterically while waving my taped heart in the air. i would love you a million times knowing i would lose you and i would not care as long as i got to do it. i have loved. i have loved so completely.
mae // what a bittersweet thing to understand.

welcome! we're the 'erato anthology', a small, independently run literary magazine dedicated to creating a safe space for all emerging writers looking to share their passion and art with the world.
the theme for our first issue is 'performance', and the theme is completely up to your interpretation. let your imagination run wild!
we accept prose (up to 1500 words), poetry (up to 30 lines), flash fiction, essays, critical analysis of television shows or books (because i know people like to share their theories, i know i do), fanfiction (up to 1500 words and sfw only, please), essays and book reviews. we also absolutely adore reposting details or advertising about any books you're writing, so feel free to send those through!
you can also submit your work directly to our blog, and we will queue it to be posted.
we know how daunting it is sharing your work with the world, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence in creative writing and the commercialization of literature in places such as booktok (it seems like their is a 'recipe for success' and if your writing doesn't fit that, it doesn't get recognised), so we created the 'erato anthology' as a safe space to share your unique ideas that don't necessarily fit into mainstream literature.
submit your work here (submissions close january 16th (EDIT: they now close by february 1st) for the first issue of the anthology but the blog submissions are open all year round)
some of our wonderful staff writers include @angellekookie, @inspirationallybored, @that-cameo and @xaliaver! if you want to apply, please send an ask.

πŸ™πŸΎPublishing my first book at this time in life has been a deeply sentimental and spiritual experience. Thank you to all who have supported. I truly believe these poems and musings will deeply resonate in the hands of whoever it comes in contact with. Words are Life and Art is eternal. 🌹
If anyone wants a real insight into my mind, you can find that in Hopeful Nets. It’s me at my most transparent and vulnerable.
Available now on Amazon at the link below.πŸ’«βœ¨πŸ‘‡πŸΎ πŸ“– Blessings.

Joan Didion's Packing List:
TO PACK AND WEAR: 2 skirts 2 jerseys or leotards 1 pullover sweater 2 pair shoes stockings bra nightgown, robe, slippers cigarettes bourbon bag with: shampoo toothbrush and paste Basis soap, razor deodorant aspirin prescriptions Tampax face cream powder baby oil
TO CARRY: mohair throw typewriter 2 legal pads and pens files house key
β€œThis is a list which was taped inside my closet door in Hollywood during those years when I was reporting more or less steadily. The list enabled me to pack, without thinking, for any piece I was likely to do. Notice the deliberate anonymity of costume: in a skirt, a leotard, and stockings, I could pass on either side of the culture. Notice the mohair throw for trunk-line flights (i.e. no blankets) and for the motel room in which the air conditioning could not be turned off. Notice the bourbon for the same motel room. Notice the typewriter for the airport, coming home: the idea was to turn in the Hertz car, check in, find an empty bench, and start typing the day’s notes.”
β€”Joan Didion, β€œThe White Album” (1979)
