𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲
This is a very simple recipe for high protein, healthy meatballs in a rich tomato and basil sauce.
The great thing about meatballs is that they are very versatile and you could use different mince if you like, we sometimes use this turkey mince for variety and you can also play around with the herbs and spices too.
Sometimes a little chilli mixed in with the meatballs gives it a great kick or you can add some wine to the sauce for extra richness too
𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
• 25 g breadcrumbs
• 2 garlic cloves
• 1 red onion
• 2 tbsp mixed herbs
• 500 g lean steak mince
• 1 tsp olive oil
• splash of water
• 400 g chopped tomatoes
• salt & pepper
• handful freshly chopped basil
𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱
1) In a large bowl crack and whisk the egg then add the breadcrumbs, 1 of your garlic cloves, half the onion, the mixed herbs and the mince.
2) Roll up your sleeves and mix everything through with your hands before rolling the mixture into meatballs so that each meatball is around half the size of a squash ball.
3) Set the meatballs aside and heat the olive oil in a large frying pan on a low heat and add the meatballs and cook for around 10 minutes . You may need to fry these in batches if you can’t fit them all in your frying pan.
4) Once cooked, remove from the pan and set aside.
5) Add the remaining half onion and garlic clove to the pan and fry for around a minute. Add a splash of water to the pan and scrape any ‘bits’ off the bottom. Add the chopped tomatoes, stir through then add the meatballs back to the pan, coat with the sauce then cover the pan and simmer for 10 minutes
6) Add the basil and simmer for a further 2 minutes before serving.

HC that the Batkids post patrol will always steal their siblings' food or snacks, even if Alfred has prepared a three course meal should any of them decide to be normal. Jason’s always irritated when Steph or Duke break into his place demanding snacks or stealing bits of the one person meal he's made for food. Cass and Tim often end up stealing each other's granola bars and energy drinks, leading to frequent disputes about who is supposed to restock them.
Damian, never to be outdone, drives the hours to Blüdhaven to steal Dick’s food (Dick will make spicy snacks for him).

i respect all the headcanons that Tommy can also cook but consider: joined the army (meals provided), became a firefighter (meals provided), obviously keeps up and maintains a serious workout routine... the only thing that man knows how to cook is big batch meal prep chicken/rice/veggies that he eats 2-3 times a day. shit with all his hobbies/demanding job he may just order a meal service plan. so when Buck comes along and starts to cook for him, he is Blown Away

that post reminded me all over again how annoyed i get with people who don't take hiking seriously when they do it
like wearing shitty shoes or not carrying enough water or thinking that their phone is a good enough emergency flashlight/radio or that they don't need to keep a basic first-aid kit on hand like people. PEOPLE.
i mean, sure, if you're doing a 0.5 mile guided hike on a well-maintained and -traveled trail then you're not likely to need safety gear but if you're going anywhere alone* then you need to be prepared for things to go sideways
*by which i mean "you as a couple/group are alone because hiking solo is extremely and should only be attempted by highly-experienced hikers who don't need to be told to be safe"
like, no, you don't need to prepare for the zombie apocalypse, but you do need to be prepared for someone to slip and sprain their ankle in an area with zero cell service. because that's hardly an outside possibility! a lot of these places have minimal cell service and when you're walking on uneven terrain, slipping and spraining your ankle is a very real threat! and something that can be very dangerous, depending on where you are! and "i slipped and sprained my ankle and now i'm trying to crawl to the nearest pocket of cell service i can find before my phone dies and the sun is setting and i'm now slowly succumbing to hypothermia and/or bears" is a really stupid way to die! when all you needed was a first-aid kit and an emergency radio! and to not be alone, that's another big one
like, there's this sense in a lot of people that we are lords and masters of nature and it can't harm us but that is ridiculously, gaspingly untrue! if you go up against mother nature in a fight, you will lose - or if you win, it will not be un-altered. human arrogance in the face of nature gets hundreds if not thousands of people killed every year, don't be another one of them

#hiking#nature#look i was taught that 1. invest in good shoes and a good backpack for your health and for safety - you're less likely to damage your feet#or ankles if you're wearing good-quality shoes or boots and you need the comfort and durability of both shoes and pack#2. this is not a safe hobby. better to have and not need than need and not have. you need at least three liters of water per day (more in#hot climates)‚ a sharp knife‚ a first aid kit with bandages‚ benadryl‚ and an emergency blanket‚ an emergency radio with batteries or crank‚#a battery-powered flashlight with fresh batteries‚ food that has carbs and protein‚ and a whistle#3. leave nothing behind. take all trash with you. dig six inches deep to defecate and cover it back over.#(4. never eat in the tent. holy shit the stories of people getting attacked by bears in the night because they had food in the tent.)#this hobby is wonderful and rewarding but you have to have proper respect for nature#or it can and will kill you. people absolutely die in national parks and forests when they don't respect that they can.

i went to costco for the first time in over a decade yesterday and purchased what feels like a lifetime supply of food
#a lot of canned chicken and tuna. tofu. 18 pack of shin ramen. 18 pack of celsius. huge pack of liquid ivs#big box of chickpea pasta which im not sure if i will like but ill eat it anyway for the proteins#and oysters and frozen wontons and chicken tendies#huuuuge blocks of gouda and beechers flagship and big box of seed crackers and a fuckload of mixed nuts and garlic stuffed olives#and so much more...#sorry. this is the type of shit i get excited about as an almost 25 year old man

Dying imagining the brothers reacting to a mid to low class white American Mc’s taste in food.
Mc used to watch in horror as they ate Devilfoms food with eyes and skulls but the boys about to be sick watching them eat shit like canned tuna, mayonnaise, spam, hotdogs, box Mac and cheese, country fried steak, biscuits and gravy and mystery casseroles like they’re delicacies.

currently thinking about ben as darius's personal swiss army knife. darius needs a pen? ben has red black and blue. feeling hungry? ben never leaves home without a snack (and he's moved on from the carob bars, thank god). darius and ben get stuck in the rain? and darius gets soaked to the bone so he can't just use his shirt to dry off his glasses (darius with glasses is my truth don't talk to me.....)? not only is ben's fanny pack waterproof but he also always carries a microfiber cloth for situations like these
