Well this is it boys. I was just informed from my boss and HR that my entire profession is being automated away. For context I work production in local news. Recently there’s been developments in AI driven systems that can do 100% of the production side of things which is, direct, audio operate, and graphic operate -all of those jobs are all now gone in one swoop. This has apparently been developed by the company Q ai. For the last decade I’ve worked in local news and have garnered skills I thought I would be able to take with me until my retirement, now at almost 30 years old, all of those job opportunities for me are gone in an instant. The only person that’s keeping their job is my manager, who will overlook the system and do maintenance if needed. That’s 20 jobs lost and 0 gained for our station. We were informed we are going to be the first station to implement this under our company. This means that as of now our entire production staff in our news station is being let go. Once the system is implemented and running smoothly then this system is going to be implemented nationwide (effectively eliminating tens of thousands of jobs.) There are going to be 0 new jobs built off of this AI platform. There are people I work with in their 50’s, single, no college education, no family, and no other place to land a job once this kicks in. I have no idea what’s going to happen to them. This is it guys. This is what our future with AI looks like. This isn’t creating any new jobs this is knocking out entire industry level jobs without replacing them.
Don't ever let any AI-supporters try to claim that AI will 'never make people lose their jobs!' because it's already been happening before this, and now this thread is full of stories of people talking about people being laid off from jobs they'd worked for 40 years to be replaced by AI :/
*this* is why it is so important to not tolerate generative AI, even when it's "just a joke" or "for a meme" I'm just eternally greatful that Tumblr hasn't been completely swarmed with AI generated images the way facebook has...

But there’s also good news: A recent paper studying lead in turmeric in Bangladesh found that researchers and the Bangladeshi government appear to have driven lead out of the turmeric business in Bangladesh.
How Bangladesh got serious about lead poisoning
The researchers who’d isolated turmeric as the primary cause of high blood lead levels —working for the nonprofit International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh — went to meet with government officials. They collected samples nationwide and published a 2019 follow-up paper on the extent of the problem. Bangladesh’s Food Safety Authority got involved.
They settled on a two-part approach, starting with an education campaign to warn people about the dangers of lead. Once people had been warned that lead adulteration was illegal, they followed up with raids to analyze turmeric and fine sellers who were selling adulterated products.
They posted tens of thousands of fliers informing people about the risks of lead. They got coverage in the news. And then they swept through the markets with X-ray fluorescence analyzers, which detect lead. They seized contaminated products and fined sellers.
According to the study released earlier this month, this worked spectacularly well. “The proportion of market turmeric samples containing detectable lead decreased from 47 percent pre-intervention in 2019 to 0 percent in 2021,” the study found. And the vanishing of lead from turmeric had an immediate and dramatic effect on blood lead levels in the affected populations, too: “Blood lead levels dropped a median of 30 percent.”
The researchers who helped make that result happen are gearing up for similar campaigns in other areas where spices are adulterated.
The power of problem-solving
...When the Food Safety Authority showed up at the market and started issuing fines for lead adulteration, it stopped being a savvy business move to add lead. Purchasers who were accustomed to unnatural lead-colored turmeric learned how to recognize non-adulterated turmeric. And so lead went from ubiquitous to nearly nonexistent in the space of just a few years.
That’s a better world for everyone, from turmeric wholesalers to vulnerable kids — all purchased at a shockingly low price. The paper published this month concludes, “with credible information, appropriate technology, and good enough governance, the adulteration of spices can be stopped.”
There’s still a lot more to be done. India, like Bangladesh, has widespread adulteration of turmeric. And safety testing will have to remain vigilant to prevent lead in Bangladesh from creeping back into the spice supply.
But for all those caveats, it’s rare to see such fast, decisive action on a major health problem — and impressive to see it immediately rewarded with such a dramatic improvement in blood lead levels and health outcomes. It’s a reminder that things can change, and can change very quickly, as long as people care, and as long as they act."

New Feature - Story Mode
Moving forward, we are unlocking the "testing options" that beta users and ourselves use for various cheaty testing quickness. This should make it easier for everyone to get into the" supply chain" aspect of Sun&Moon sets.
We are dubbing it "Story Mode". Mostly because cheating sounds icky, but the Sims 2 is a single player game...so no one should care if you cheat anyway but also there is no need to make a player feel called out if they used a shortcut to get to the good parts of a single player game am I right?
Sun&Moon was always a project meant to simulate realistic supply chains. As we made more sets, things have become more intertwined than ever. We get that this is confusing for newcomers and truthfully, it can sometimes complicate testing. Story Mode can make it easier to get into the gameplay and get your supply chain started, or allow you to skip that entirely and still enjoy the sets.
Please note this is intended for sets from September 2024 forward. There are still intentions of updating older stations to the Crafting Points system and as that is done, this feature will be added in. A proper update notice for each set will of course be announced.
Options that can be found under the Story Mode pie menu option will include:
Fully Stock Station - This will stock the station with everything needed to make a product, no need to direct a sim to stock or even have the items gathered. Your sims will still need the proper skill levels, writs, or traits to complete the task.
Receive All Products - Don't want to even go through the manufacturing motions? Or wait for a timer to run to get to the end products? Or build up skill levels/have writs in your inventory? This action grants all end products to the sim's inventory, no fuss. This will include any Skill Level reward, such as Writs of Mastery. Warning, this can result in cluttered inventories.
Spawn - This is to force a spawner to reproduce or summon the attached item, bypassing timers in items like hunting spawners, or self propagating plants.
Action! - Makes a sim complete the animations associated with a station, but results in no ingredients needed, and no products made. Just for the looks and photoshoots really.
Of course as things develop, more options may be added to Story Mode. Note, that Decoration options are not part of Story Mode and will stay on the standard pie menu.
Turning On Story Mode
Story Mode is OFF by default, and can be activated by one of three ways:
Trait Restrictions - Built into the code already, if you use traits and don't mind adding one more into a sim's inventory add in the Story Mode trait and these menus will auto show. This method allows you to restrict by individual sims.
Lot Controller Object - Built into the code already, if you place the Sun&Moon Lot Controller Object on a lot then all the menus will auto show. This works on all sims per lot.
SimPE Edit - In the object you want to turn Story Mode permanently on; Navigate to the TTAB, select the Pie Menu Functions resource, and select a story mode option you wish to edit. Select the Pie Menu Option you wish to enable, select all numbers/text in the Guardian BHAV box and hit delete to clear the box. Commit and Save.
Recompress.
Lot Controller Object & Story Mode Trait
Including these two files here, as they directly affect this feature. Both can be found in the Misc>Misc category for $0.
Using the trait is simple, just put it in a sim's inventory and forget about it.
The Lot Object Controller however, has had several features coded into it so it's not just useless deco. More features will be added as they come up.

In a groundbreaking study from the Mayo Clinic, a globally recognized leader in medical research and patient care, researchers examined the effects of puberty blockers on testicular development in gender dysphoric male children. Their investigation revealed evidence of mild to severe atrophy in the sex glands of these children, leading the authors to express doubt in the claims of “reversibility” often made about puberty blockers.
The authors assert, “We provide unprecedented histological evidence revealing detrimental pediatric testicular sex gland responses to [puberty blockers].”
This preprint study, not yet peer-reviewed, presents evidence that puberty blockers induce significant cellular changes, impacting testicular development and sperm production in ways that are not fully reversible, with potentially permanent effects on testicular function and fertility. It challenges the longstanding view of puberty blockers as a reversible "pause button" on puberty.
As noted by the researchers of this study, no long-term studies exist for the use of puberty blockers in the context of stopping puberty for gender dysphoric children, and many potential health consequences remain unknown. In particular, the long-term impact on reproductive health is uncertain, making this study critical for filling this knowledge gap.
To address these unknowns, the Mayo Clinic has established the largest collection of testicular samples for patients aged 0-17 years, including those with gender dysphoria who have and have not yet received puberty blocker treatment, creating a database of over 130,000 individual cells for analysis.
Using a novel approach, the research team meticulously analyzed testicular tissue samples from youths undergoing puberty blocker treatment, with those not on puberty blocker treatment serving as controls. This comparison provides important insights into the potential cellular and molecular changes induced by these drugs.
Key Findings
The study utilized the Mayo Clinic's Pediatric Testicular Biobank for Fertility Preservation, which has been recruiting patients primarily from pediatric urology departments since 2015. Researchers analyzed testicular specimens from 87 young individuals (ages 0-17) undergoing fertility preservation surgery for various health reasons. Among these, 16 were gender dysphoric boys between the ages of 10 and 16, all of whom began identifying as transgender girls between the ages of 2 and 15. At the time of surgery, 9 patients (56%) were already on puberty blockers, with exposure ranging from 3 to 52 months. The authors noted that 100% of the 16 children would eventually go on to take them, highlighting “the widespread nature of PB intervention in this demographic.”
Among nine patients treated with puberty blockers, two exhibited unusual features in their testicles upon physical examination. One patient had abnormalities in both testicles, including incomplete development of the tunica albuginea, which is a protective covering around the testicles. The other patient had a right testicle that was difficult to detect.
In one part of the tissue-level analysis, over 400 testicular biopsy samples were analyzed and stained to examine the differences between those treated with puberty blockers and those who were not. Comparisons showed that testicular development in those treated with puberty blockers was abnormal compared to non-treated individuals. There was variability in how individuals responded to puberty blockers, leading to different outcomes in testicular development, including the degeneration of testicular tissues.
The study authors presented a case of a 12-year-old patient who underwent treatment with puberty blockers for 14 months. In this individual, 59% of the sex glands showed complete atrophy, along with the presence of microlithiasis—a condition where small clusters of calcium form in the testicles. This insight suggests that puberty blockers could lead to lasting structural changes. Additionally, research has shown a link between testicular microlithiasis and testicular cancer.

This study also utilized single-cell analysis to investigate the effects of puberty blockers and aging on testicular cell composition. It took a very detailed look at individual cells from the testicles of a 14-year-old who had been on puberty blockers for over 4 years. The study analyzed a total of 130,100 cells, including 11,199 cells from the juvenile puberty blocker-treated patient.
The study observed that over 90% of the cells responsible for sperm production in this patient were stunted at an early developmental stage, unable to progress further. Additionally, it found "pathologically" higher and lower levels of two types of support cells (Sertoli cells) necessary for healthy sperm development. These findings suggest that puberty blockers can disrupt the normal maturation process of cells critical for sperm production.
In another part of the analysis, the authors found distinct cell-specific changes, including altered expression patterns of puberty-associated genes in endothelial cells, due to puberty blocker treatment. The authors believe that these drugs might induce juvenile testicular atrophy in part by disrupting the normal function of testicular endothelial cells.
Another aspect of the study focused on examining the effects of puberty blockers on the genetic activity of early-stage sperm cells, revealing significant changes that could potentially influence their development and fertility. By analyzing the activity of specific genes within these cells, the researchers found that puberty blockers may have caused alterations in gene expression, affecting processes crucial for the normal growth and function of these cells. This analysis suggests that the use of puberty blockers in gender dysphoric youth could have lasting implications for their reproductive health, particularly by impacting the ability of these early-stage sperm cells to mature properly.
Study Impact
Puberty blockers are increasingly used as a treatment for gender dysphoric youth to halt the development of secondary sex characteristics, such as breast development and widening of hips in females, or the growth of facial hair and deepening of the voice in males. Thousands of children in the United States are placed on this medical pathway as part of the gender-affirming model of care, under the presumption that these drugs are safe and fully reversible.
However, many aspects of the long-term consequences of puberty blockers, which have been administered to children off-label in an experimental manner, remain unknown. This study contributes valuable insights into the potential irreversible harm these treatments can cause to bodily and reproductive functions.
Arguably, the most critical finding is the evidence of mild to severe sex gland atrophy in children treated with puberty blockers. This atrophy signifies potential damage or impairment to the structures essential for sperm production, raising serious concerns about the long-term fertility impacts of these drugs for these individuals.
Given the Mayo Clinic's esteemed reputation in the medical and research communities, should the study pass peer review without any issues, its findings will carry significant weight.
Broader Implications
Puberty blockers belong to a group of synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues. These drugs act on the pituitary gland to hinder the release of chemical signals that typically trigger the production of estrogen and testosterone. Historically GnRH analogues were used to treat conditions such as prostate cancer, fibroids, and endometriosis and, in some cases, as a measure to chemically castrate sex offenders.
In children, puberty blockers prevent the natural changes of puberty driven by sex hormones and have been used to treat central precocious puberty, a condition where a child begins to sexually mature much earlier than usual. In gender dysphoria, puberty blockers are administered experimentally, lacking long-term testing.
Notably, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved puberty blockers and sex hormones for use in pediatric gender care. No clinical trials have substantiated the safety of these drugs for such non-approved applications and manufacturers of puberty blockers have repeatedly declined to conduct safety trials for their use on this cohort.
While puberty-blocking drugs are often promoted as “safe,” "reversible" and a "pause button" on puberty, these characterizations seem to stem from their approved use for treating central precocious puberty in younger children, not their burgeoning off-label use for managing gender dysphoria in adolescents.
Past studies have indicated possible negative effects on bone density and brain health. There is also a concern that these drugs might solidify gender dysphoria in adolescents, potentially leading them down a lifelong road of biomedical interventions. Following reports in 2016 of suicidal ideation in children administered puberty blockers, the FDA instructed drug manufacturers to include a warning about potential psychiatric issues on the drugs' labels.
Puberty blockers are increasingly administered to adolescents at Tanner Stage 2, the first signs of puberty. Research shows administering puberty blockers at this stage, followed by cross-sex hormones, may result in infertility, sterility, and sexual dysfunction. Furthermore, they inhibit the development of mature male genitalia, making it difficult to create a pseudovagina in the event of a later vaginoplasty due to a lack of sufficient tissue.
The National Health Service England recently announced it would no longer prescribe puberty blockers to youth outside of research settings and closed down its only national clinical service for pediatric gender medicine, following a review that deemed the service "not safe.”
Several European countries, including Sweden, Finland, the UK, Denmark, and Norway have updated their guidelines for youth transition to align with systematic evidence reviews, the gold standard in evidence-based medicine. These reviews concluded that the risks associated with youth transition outweigh any purported benefits. Consequently, these countries have implemented restrictions on medical interventions, prioritizing psychotherapy as a first-line response for minors experiencing gender-related distress.

So what's up with dividing by zero anyways - a ramble on algebraic structures
Most everyone in the world (at least in theory) knows how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. You can always add two numbers, subtract two numbers, and multiply two numbers. But you must **never** divide by zero... or something along those lines. There's often a line of logic that leads to dividing by zero leading to "infinity," whatever infinity means, unless you're doing 0/0, whatever that means either. Clearly this is a problem! We can't have such inconsistencies in our fundamental operations! Why aren't our top mathematicians working on this?
So, that might be a bit of an exaggeration: division by zero isn't really a problem at all and is, for all intents and purposes fairly well understood, but to see why we'll have to take a crash course through algebra (the field of math, not the grade school version). Sorry for those of y'all who have seen fields and projective space before, not much to gain out of this one.
Part I: In the beginning, we had a Set.
As is true with most things in math, the only structure we start with is a set. A set isn't useful for much; all we can do with a single set is say what elements are and aren't in the set. Once you have more than one set, you start getting interesting things like unions or intersections or functions or Cartesian products, but none of those are _really_ that useful (or at least necessary) for understanding algebraic structures at the level we need, so a single set is what we start with and a single set there will be. The story then goes as follows: on the first day the lord said "Let there be an operation!" and it was so. If you want to be a bit of a nerd, a (binary) operation on a set A is formally a map * : A x A -> A, but for our purposes we just need to know that it matches the standard operations most people know (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, but not division) in that for any two numbers a and b, we can do a * b and get another number. Of course, once again this is not very helpful on its own, and so we need to impose some more conditions on this operation for it to be useful for us. Not to worry though, these conditions are almost always ones you know well, if not by name, and come rather intuitively.
The first structure we'll discuss is that of a monoid: a set with an operation that is associative and has an identity. Associativity simply means that (a * b) * c = a * (b * c), and an identity simply means that we have some special element e such that a * e = e * a = a. For two simple examples and one nonexample, we have the natural numbers (with 0) under addition is a monoid: 0 + a *= *a *+ 0 = *a, and any two natural numbers add to another natural number; the integers under multiplication is a monoid: 1 * a = a * 1 = a, and any two integers multiply to another integer; and the integers under subtraction is not a monoid, since subtraction is not associative (a - (b - c) =/= (a-b) - c). In both of these examples, the operation is commutative: in other words, a * b = b * a for every a and b. There are plenty of examples of operations that are not commutative, matrix multiplication or function composition probably being the most famous, but for the structures we're going to be interested in later operations are almost always commutative, so we can just assume that from the start.
Of course, you might wonder where subtraction comes from, if it doesn't fit into a monoid structure (and in particular isn't associative). Not to worry! We can simply view subtraction as another type of addition, and our problems go away. In particular, we add the condition that for every a, we have an inverse element a⁻ ¹ (or -a if our operation is addition) such that a * a⁻ ¹ = a⁻ ¹ * a = e. For fans of universal algebra, just as a binary operation can be thought of as a function, the inverse can be thought of as a function i : A -> A that sends each element to its inverse. This forms a structure we know as a group. While none of the above examples form a group, one of them can be naturally extended to a group: if we simply add negative whole numbers to natural numbers, we get the group of integers over addition, where for any integer a, we have its inverse -a where a + -a = 0. In particular, the subtraction a - b is just a + -b = -b + a, where -b is the additive inverse of b. As we will soon see, division can also be thought of in a similar way, where a/b = a * /b = /b * a where /b is the multiplicative inverse of b. As a side note, the examples above are very specific types of monoids and groups which turn out to be quite far from the general ideas that monoids and groups are trying to encapsulate. Monoids show up often in computer science as they're a good model for describing how a list of commands affects a computer, and groups are better thought of as encapsulating symmetries of an object (think of the ways you can rotate and reflect a square or a cube).
Part II: So imagine if instead of one operation, we have... two...
If you've ever taken introductory algebra, you've probably never heard of monoids and only done groups. This is partially because monoids are much less mathematically interesting than groups are and partially because monoids are just not as useful when thinking about other things. For the purposes of this post, however, the logical steps from Set -> Monoid -> Group are surprisingly similar to the steps Group -> Ring -> Field, so I've chosen to include it regardless.
Just as we started from a set and added an operation to make a monoid, here we start from an additive group (i.e. a group where the operation is addition) and add another operation, namely multiplication, that acts on the elements of the group. Just like in the monoid, we will impose the condition that multiplication is associative and has an identity, namely 1, but we also impose the condition that multiplication meshes nicely with addition in what you probably know as the distributive properties. What we end up with is a ring, something like the integers, where you can add, subtract, and multiply, but not necessarily divide (for example, 2 doesn't have a multiplicative inverse in the integers, as a * 2 = 1 has no solutions). Similarly, when we add in multiplicative inverses to every nonzero element, we get a field, something like the rational numbers or the real numbers, where we can now divide by every nonzero number. In other words, a ring is an additive group with a multiplicative monoid, and a field is an additive group with a subset that is a multiplicative group (in particular the subset that is everything except zero). For those who want to be pedantic, multiplication in a ring doesn't have to be commutative, but addition is, and both addition and multiplication are commutative in a field. A full list of the conditions we impose on the operations of a monoid, group, ring, and field can be found here).
So why can't we have a multiplicative inverse to 0 in a field? As it turns out, this is because 0 * a = 0 for every a, so nothing times 0 gets you to 1. There is technically a structure you can have if 0 = 1, but it turns out there's only the one single element 0 in that structure and nothing interesting happens, so generally fields specifically don't allow 0 = 1. Then, what if instead we relaxed the condition that 0 * a = 0? Similarly, it turns out that this isn't one of the fundamental conditions on multiplication, but rather arises from the other properties (a simple proof is a * 0 = a * (0 + 0) = a * 0 + a * 0 implies 0 = a * 0 - a * 0 = a * 0 + a * 0 - a * 0 = a * 0). If we were to relax this condition, then we lose some of the other nice properties that we built up. This will be a recurring theme throughout the rest of this post, so be wary.
Part III. We can't have everything we want in life.
While all the structures so far have been purely algebraic and purely algebraically motivated, the simplest way to start dividing by zero is actually "geometric," with several different ways of constructing the same space. The construction we'll use is as follows: take any field, particularly the real numbers or the complex numbers. We can always take the cartesian product of a field K with itself to form what's called affine space K^2, which is the set of ordered pairs (a,b) for a, b in K. As a side note, the product of groups, rings, or fields has a natural definition of addition or whatever the underlying group operation is by doing it componentwise, i.e. (a,b) * (c,d) = (a * c, b * d), but our operations will not coincide with this, as you'll see soon. This affine space is a plane - in fact, when we do this to the real numbers, we get the Cartesian plane - within which we can construct lines, some of which we get by considering the set of points (x, y) satisfying the familiar equation y = mx + b for some 'slope' m and 'intercept' b. In particular, we want to characterize all the lines through the origin. This gives us all the lines of the form y = mx, as well as one additional line x = 0. This is the basic construction of what we call the projective line, a space characterizing all the lines through the origin of affine 2-space. The geometric picture of this space is actually a circle: the bottom point representing the number 0; the left and right halves representing negative and positive numbers, repsectively; and the top point representing the number "infinity."
There are a few ways of describing points on the projective line. The formal way of doing so is by using what are called homogenous coordinates. In other words, for any nonzero point (a,b) in affine space, it is surely true that we can find a line through the origin and (a,b). In particular, if a is not zero, then this line takes the form y = (b/a) x where the slope is b/a. Furthermore, any two points (a,b) and (c,d) can actually sit on the same line, in particular whenever c = ka and d = kb for some number k. Thus, we can define homogenous coordinates as the set of points [a : b] for a, b in our field where [a : b] = [ka : kb] by definition, and the point [0 : 0] is not allowed as it doesn't specify any particular line (after all, every line passes through the origin). As is alluded to above, however, this means that whenever a =/= 0, we can take k = 1/a to get [a : b] = [1 : b/a], in other words characterizing each line by its slope. Furthermore, whenever a = 0, we can take k = 1/b to get [0 : b] = [0 : 1]. In other words, the projective line is, as we informally stated above, equivalent to the set of slopes of lines through the origin plus one other point representing the vertical line, the point at "infinity." Since slopes are just numbers in a field, we can add, subtract, multiply, and divide them as we normally do with one exception: the slope of the lines containing [a : b] for any a =/= 0 is b/a, so clearly the line with infinite slope consisting of points [0 : b] implies that b/0 should be infinity. Voila! We can divide by zero now, right? Well... there are two loose ends to tie down. The first is what infinity actually means in this case, since it is among the most misunderstood concepts in mathematics. Normally, when people bandy about phrases such as "infinity isn't a number, just a concept" or "some infinities are different from others" they are usually wrong (but well meaning) and also talking about a different kind of infinity, the ones that arise from cardinalities. Everything in math depends on the context in which it lies, and infinity is no different. You may have heard of the cardinal infinity, the subject of Hilbert's Hotel, describing the size of sets and written primarily with aleph numbers. Similarly, you may also have heard of the ordinal infinity, describing the "place" in the number line greater than any natural number. Our infinity is neither of these: it is to some extent an infinity by name only, called such primarily to take advantage of the intuition behind dividing by zero. It's not "greater" than any other number (in fact, the normal ordering of an ordered fields such as the real numbers breaks down on the projective line), and this is a consequence of the fact that if you make increasingly negative and increasingly positive slopes you end up near the same place: a vertical line. In other words, "negative infinity" and "positive infinity" are the same infinity.
The second loose end is that defining our operations this way is actually somewhat algebraically unsound, at least with respect to the way we think about operations in groups, rings, and fields. As mentioned above, the operation of addition can be lifted to affine space as (a,b) + (c,d) = (a+c,b+d). However, this same operation can't really be used for homogenous coordinates, since [1, 0] = [2, 0] as they lie on the same line (the line with slope 0), but [1, 0] + [1, 1] = [2, 1] while [2, 0] + [1, 1] = [3, 1], and [2, 1] and [3, 1] are not the same line, as they have slopes 1/2 and 1/3, respectively. Dividing by zero isn't even needed to get weirdness here. Luckily, we can simply define new operations by taking inspiration from fractions: b/a + d/c = (bc + ad)/ac, so we can let [a : b] + [c : d] equal [ac : bc + ad] (remembering that homogenous coordinates do to some extent just represent the slope). Luckily, multiplication still works nicely, so we have [a : b] * [c : d] = [ac : bd]. Unluckily, with these definitions, we no longer get a field. In particular, we don't even have an additive group anymore: [a : b] + [0 : 1] = [0 : a] = [0 : 1], so anything plus infinity is still infinity. In other words, infinity doesn't have an additive inverse. Furthermore, despite ostensibly defining infinity as 1/0, the multiplicative inverse of 0, we have that [1 : 0] * [0 : 1] = [0 : 0], by our rules, which isn't defined. Thus, 0 still doesn't have a multiplicative inverse and 0/0 still doesn't exist. It seems like we still haven't really figured out how to divide by zero, after all this. (Once again, if you want to read up on the projective line, which is a special case of projective space, which is a special case of the Grassmannian, in more depth.)
Part IV: I would say wheels would solve all our problems, if not for the fact that they just make more problems.
At this point, to really divide by zero properly, we're going to need to bite the bullet and change what dividing really means. Just as we can think of subtraction as adding the additive inverse (i.e. a - b = a + -b where -b was a number), we can start thinking of division as just multiplying by... something, i.e. a/b = a * /b, where /b is something vaguely related to the multiplicative inverse. We can already start doing this in the projective line, where we can define /[a : b] = [b : a], and it works nicely as [a : b] * [b : a] = [ab : ab] = [1 : 1] whenever neither a nor b is zero. This lets us rigorize the statements 1/infinity = 0, infinity/0 = infinity, and 0/infinity = 0, but doesn't really help us do 0/0 or infinity/infinity. Furthermore, note that because 0/0 =/= 1, /[a : b] isn't really the multiplicative identity of [a : b], it's just the closest we can get.
Enter the wheel! If 0/0 is undefined, then we can simply... define it. It worked so nicely for adding in infinity, after all - the picture of the point we added for infinity is taking a line and curling it up into a circle, and I like circles! Surely adding another point for 0/0 would be able to provide a nice insight just as turning a line into the projective line did for us.
So here's how you make a wheel:
You take a circle.
You add a point in the middle.
Yeah that's it. The new point, usually denoted by ⊥, is specifically defined as 0/0, and really just doesn't do anything else. Just like for infinity, we still have that a + ⊥ = ⊥ and a * ⊥ = ⊥ for all a (including infinity and ⊥). It doesn't fit into an order, it doesn't fit in topologically, it is algebraically inert both with respect to addition and multiplication. It is the algebraic formalization of the structure that gives you NaN whenever you fuck up in a calculator and the one use of it both inside and outside mathematics is that it lets you be pedantic whenever your elementary school teacher says "you can't divide by zero" because you can go "yeah you can it's just ⊥ because i've been secretly embedding all my real numbers into a wheel this whole time" (supposing you can even pronounce that).
Part V: So what was the point of all this anyways
The wheel is charming to me because it is one of the structures in mathematics where you can tell someone just asked a question of "what if this was true," built some space where it was, and just started toying with it to see what happens. It's a very human and very beautiful thing to see someone go against conventional knowledge and ask "what breaks when you allow 0/0" even if conventional knowledge does tend to be right most of the time. In this sense, perhaps the uselessness of the wheel is the point, that even despite how little ⊥ does from a mathematical lens, some people still took the time to axiomatize this system, to find a list of conditions that were both consistent and sufficient to describe a wheel, and genuinely do actual work seeing how it fits in within the universe of algebraic structures that it stays in.
While a wheel may not be used for much (it might be describable in universal algebra while a field isn't, though I'm not too well versed in universal algebra so I'm not actually entirely sure), every other structure discussed above is genuinely well studied and applicable within many fields inside and outside of math. For more viewpoints on what the projective line (and in general the projective sphere) is used for, some keywords to help you on your way are compactification of a set if you care about the topological lens, the real projective line or the Riemann Sphere if you care more about the analysis side, or honestly the entirety of classical algebraic geometry if that's your thing.
Another structure that might be interesting to look at is the general case of common meadows, an algebraic structure (M, 0, 1, +, -, *, /) where the condition of / being involutive (i.e. /(/x) is not always x) is relaxed, unlike a wheel where it is always involutive. Note that these structures are called meadows because the base structure they worked on is a field (get it? not our best work I promise mathematicians are funnier than this). These structures are at the very least probably more interesting than wheels, though I haven't checked them out in any amount of detail either so who knows, perhaps there isn't much of substance there either.

I think Tyler Cowen is kinda officially washed at this point. He still has many good individual takes, by no means a broken thinker. But there is just too much hype and meme stuff now, too much useless crud to churn through.
Obviously AI and the Trump Culture stuff is the biggest part. He was not a man who would positively link to ludicrous Trumpian shillcoin stuff by grifters in the past, but he does that now on the regular, with positive framings. AI is very impressive, but he links every progress report breathlessly, often with framings that are at odds with the actual text of the document. And again with a credulity towards people whose literal job is hyping their product he would not have previously had.
I have never once clicked on a link of his where he says "o1 pro comments" as he does so often now and learned anything - it is, incredibly reliably, either straight wrong with hallucinated facts, providing vague "list of possible ideas" with no actionable conclusion, or just 90% copying the wikipedia page for the topic. I started clicking the links intentionally, btw, to test this idea! I tracked 10 results, 0/10 that I thought added knowledge worth the cost. Not useless, 6/10 I thought were "slightly better than googling", but that is not results that match the tone.
Previously you could tell that he was essentially "compromised", like on crypto he has a bunch of investments there and so he essentially is boosting the product. Which, that is life, you just kinda ignored it. But he was on a series of podcast recently, like he had a blitz - and each one was incredibly mid. All simple, high-level answers to questions, never taking a thread and running with it, not even really engaging in conversation. And I know that he can do that, still? But he needs the inspiration, and now it is hard for him to find when previously it was always on call. (Tellingly, it comes out with his friends, old grooves reactivating)
So I don't think it is just shilling. Part of it is that he too emotional, he let the Culture War tiger out. He obviously just really hates the Dems at this point and very openly blogs partisanly when previously he made a point of goring both oxes. And the other part, sad to say, is that I think age might be hitting him a tad early. Honestly one's 60's aren't even rare for this, it is the default assumption that you stop pushing and settle into your rut at that point. Happens to us all, happening to him now.
Anyway, sort of an official notice my brain sent to myself that I am officially downgrading him on the reliability metric. He was absolutely in my Top 5 Bloggers for econ/policy for a long time; but all things come to an end.

Here is a list of things that make me mad in no particular order. Angry ranting. Pls ignore this, I'm just screaming into the void. These example apply to very specific situations I've encountered with people who are perfectly capable of doing better.
People who lack common sense. Social awareness. Common courtesy. Saying "Oh my God, I'd never do that" when they've never been even close to said situation but they're now experts on how they'd act while sitting on their pristine Thoroughbred horse, sipping on English tea with their pink so high it may as well be in their nose.
People who say "Well I wouldn't care if it happened to me" or "I'm just being honest" when you point out something they did/said.
When autocorrect/spellcheck decides it cannot for the life of it figure out what you're trying to spell OR it gives you suggestions for every word under the sun except the one you want. All you did was leave out a single letter with the rest of it spelled perfectly and spellcheck decides to go into a coma. So you fix the mistake and the little squiggly red line goes away. Fuck you.
Gnats. WTF is you're problem. I've Googled this shit cause I want to know why tf you can't just fly straight, why do you have to buzz all over the damn place near my head of all places.
Flies. Same thing as above. Why tf can't you just fly straight. WHY NEAR MY EAR. You have the entire world and you decided my room is the place to be? And now we're both miserable because you keep hitting yourself against the window after noticing your grave mistake. I leave the door wide open but you want to keep body slamming the glass.
Giving me life advice on something you know nothing about.
People who don't love their pets. Yeah, you take care of them but you do it as a chore and then complain about it. Those little fur babies deserve it all, give them the best or don't have pets at all.
Holier than thou attitude.
People who laugh at those who are visibly upset and tell them they're being too sensitive.
Allergies. IDK Why tf my body acts surprised as hell every single spring. It's just fucking pollen. Why are you trying to fight it. Do you understand that in your brilliant plan to try and fight the little evaders you actually make me want to end it all because my nose is itching and my eyes are watering and I can't breathe. Food allergies are another level of bullshit. I'll never forget the day this one girl tells me she wished she had allergies? Like it makes you special, mf what??? She was being serious too.
Thin, straight, fine black hair. Can't do anything with it. It doesn't hold hairstyles, doesn't curly, gets heavy as soon as you use any product and 90% of the time it just looks like Snape cosplay. Ask me how I know
Parents who buy their very young children shoes with laces. This is inconvenient for all of us. why tf would you do this when Velcro exists. Your 4 year old doesn't need laces when they have no clue how to even eat cheese with their crackers, mf why did you buy this shoe for them?!
Bananas. Hate them with a burning passion. The smell. The texture. I hate the peel is left out and about like it isn't making the entire room smell. Don't even get me started on banana breath. (Keep in mind this is not me saying I think they're gross. I wish I liked them because they're a super convenient snack and very healthy)
People who lie and say you can't taste the banana in a smoothie. Yes, I can. You always can. You can have 1000lbs of any fruits and that single banana will still stand out.
People who don't understand mental illness/ act ignorantly to those suffering.
Big companies who ask you to donate to stuff. You're going to use this as a tax write off, stfu.
Inflation.
People who laugh at others for not knowing something. Maybe that thing had 0 relevance to their life. Maybe they learned about that because they were taught something else. Either way, how is it funny.
People who laugh at those learning a new language. You're the fucking worst. They are LEARNING. Let them get used to the pronunciation, let them get accustomed to sentence structures, let them make mistakes without being embarrassed. You're the embarrassing one cackling you're damn ass off while they're trying to do something new. You're discouraging them from wanting to continue because you feel the need to be an asshole.
People who make everything a serious debate/conversation.
People who steal. Not out of necessity but just because they can. I'll never forget overhearing this group of kids in my high school bragging and laughing their asses off over how much candy they stole from other kids. They also stole phones. These were not troubled kids mind you, they were doing this for shits and giggles.
Eczema. So fucking itchy, why can't skin just act right. It feels awful, looks awful and just comes and goes as it pleases.
People who clown you for who you find attractive. Why. If I find this person attractive, what in the ever loving flying fuck does it have to do with you. It's just so unnecessarily rude. I don't even get how its funny or why you find it okay to call someone ugly as if this is something they personally have control over.

Fasting Zones
Whilst fasting I decided to do some research into fasting and the different zones so that I could understand how to lose more weight whilst on a fast and wanted to share it with everyone.
I’m not promoting fasting in any way but I realise a lot of us do it and I want people to be informed and stay safe. Remember to keep yourself hydrated on a fast, drink some water or 0 cal drinks and please take a break if you start to feel sick or dizzy. You come first.
Anabolic - 0-4hrs
This zone lasts 4 hours on average and is usually spent processing the last meal you ate. After your body breaks down the carbs, protein and fat into glucose, amino acids and fatty acids your body converts this into energy for later use. People who snack a lot or have frequent meals usually spend most hours of the day in this state.
Depending on your diet and activity levels you can decrease this time, moving into the next zone faster, such as the fat burning zone.
Catabolic - 4-16hrs
This zone lasts 12 hours on average where the body’s blood glucose and insulin levels drop and you’ll start to use up the stored glycogen and fat for energy, this is called the breakdown state. Glucose is still the primary fuel source in this state, however when your glycogen reserves are nearing empty, you’ll start using fat.
Depending on how active you are during the day, doing exercise during this time will use up the glycogen stores quicker, moving you into the next zone.
Fat Burning - 16-24hrs
Whilst your body may always be burning fat, this zone is where it accelerates. Your body will now be in fat burning mode. Your body will always use some amount of glucose however it is now more dependant on fatty acids for fuel. Your brain still needs glucose to function, any glucose still being produced within the body will primarily be used by the brain whilst the rest of the body relies on fat for fuel.
Ketosis - 24-72hrs
Your fast is now a multi-day fast. Exercise can accelerate the transition into this zone. Your primary fuel source is fatty acids and ketone bodies plus glucose. The body now relies more and more on fat and ketone bodies in this state and will prioritise burning fatty acids with ketone bodies being spared for the brain.
Ketone bodies: this refers to 3 molecule types acetone, acetoacetate and beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). Acetoacetate and BHB can be used for energy production.
It is suggested that a healthy fast end after 3 days due to health risks. Take a break, eat a meal, drink lots of water and rest. You did well to reach three days, don’t risk your health.
Deep Ketosis - 3+ Days
The body is now in a prolonged fasting zone. After day 3, glucose and insulin levels stay low and hunger will stay suppressed. You’ll see a decrease in IGF-1 a hormone involved in growth and development. Insulin and Glucose production will fall around 30% or more.

I came to your page to ask you who helps you with your animations, and then saw in your pinned post that you’re a team of one!! WHAT!!!! With the insane quality of your work I thought you had a whole team behind you, or you got one as time went on, but to hear you do this all yourself is crazy! (Or should I say….. quazie- *gets shot*)
Seriously though, the level of production in your stuff honest to god is on par with entire indie animation studios on youtube, like Spooky Month, Lackadaisy, or Hazbin Hotel, and you’re just one guy doing this?? It really speaks to your level of talent, and is honestly so cool.
Out of sheer curiosity, do you ever think you’ll hire/find some outside help for your animations, or are u planning to continue to do it by yourself? I’d understand both ways, it takes a long time to finish animation stuff and a team would help, but a team also requires a lot of communication and planning and sometimes that’s hard to manage. Anyways, love your stuff! Hope you’re having a great day :]
Thank you! Yes, I am indeed a team of one on the animation aspect (although I’ve found a very lovely person to help me with audio SFX! My least favorite part of making a cartoon, so that helps me a lot.)
When it comes to asking for help, I really try to keep the budget of my animations at 0$. Doing it all by yourself can get very exhausting at points, but that’s the only way to keep doing it as my job right now. Plain and simple, I don’t make enough to hire animators. I know what it feels like to not be paid fairly for your work, and that's not something I ever want to inflict on other artists. Animation can be grueling, and animators deserve top dollar for their work.
Another aspect of it is having to organize and direct people. I have 0 industry experience and the only group animation projects I’ve done are reanimated projects. It’s just not something I trust myself to do at this point. I don’t really have any friends that are animators, it’s just me in my room trying to make cartoons. I hope one day when I make an original cartoon, people will enjoy it like other indie cartoons on YouTube. Worthikids is one of my biggest inspirations and I hope I can make something even 1/10th as good as Big Top Burger one day.
