The Philosophy of Excellence
The philosophy of excellence explores the nature, pursuit, and implications of striving for the highest standards in various aspects of life. Excellence is often regarded as an ideal that motivates individuals and societies to achieve their best, whether in personal development, professional endeavors, or creative pursuits. This philosophical inquiry delves into what it means to excel, the values that underpin excellence, and the practical and ethical considerations involved in its pursuit.
Key Concepts in the Philosophy of Excellence
Definition of Excellence:
Concept: Excellence is typically defined as the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. It implies surpassing ordinary standards and achieving a level of superiority.
Implications: Understanding what constitutes excellence can vary depending on cultural, social, and individual perspectives.
Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation:
Concept: The pursuit of excellence can be driven by intrinsic motivations (personal satisfaction, growth) or extrinsic motivations (rewards, recognition).
Implications: Exploring these motivations helps in understanding the deeper reasons behind the quest for excellence and its sustainability.
Virtue and Excellence:
Concept: In classical philosophy, particularly Aristotelian ethics, excellence (arete) is closely linked to virtue. It involves developing one's abilities and character to achieve a good and fulfilling life.
Implications: This perspective connects moral and ethical dimensions with the concept of excellence.
Standards and Measurement:
Concept: Excellence involves benchmarks and standards against which performance is measured. These standards can be objective (quantifiable achievements) or subjective (perceptions of quality).
Implications: The criteria for excellence influence how it is pursued and recognized in different fields.
Role of Failure and Resilience:
Concept: The path to excellence often includes overcoming failures and developing resilience. Learning from setbacks is integral to achieving high standards.
Implications: This aspect emphasizes the process-oriented nature of excellence rather than focusing solely on outcomes.
Theories on the Philosophy of Excellence
Aristotelian Virtue Ethics:
Theory: Aristotle posited that excellence is achieved through the cultivation of virtues, which are traits that enable individuals to perform their functions well. This involves finding the mean between extremes in actions and emotions.
Implications: This theory highlights the moral and ethical dimensions of striving for excellence.
Existentialist Perspectives:
Theory: Existentialist philosophers like Jean-Paul Sartre emphasize individual choice and authenticity in the pursuit of excellence. It involves creating meaning and purpose through one's actions.
Implications: Excellence is seen as a personal, self-defined endeavor that requires existential commitment and responsibility.
Humanistic Psychology:
Theory: Theories by psychologists such as Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers focus on self-actualization as the realization of one's potential and excellence. This involves achieving personal growth and fulfillment.
Implications: Excellence is linked to psychological well-being and the realization of innate capabilities.
Performance Theory:
Theory: In areas like sports, business, and the arts, performance theory examines how excellence can be systematically pursued through deliberate practice, feedback, and continuous improvement.
Implications: This theory provides practical strategies for achieving high levels of performance.
Ethical Leadership and Excellence:
Theory: Leadership theories often emphasize the role of ethical principles in achieving excellence. Leaders who model integrity, fairness, and dedication inspire excellence in others.
Implications: This approach connects leadership qualities with the cultivation of excellence in organizations and communities.
The philosophy of excellence encourages a nuanced exploration of what it means to achieve the highest standards, emphasizing the importance of virtues, motivation, resilience, and ethical considerations in this pursuit. It serves as a guiding framework for individuals and societies aiming to elevate their capabilities and contributions to their fullest potential.

"Unlike petititions for civil rights, queer revels constitute a kind of activism that attacks the dominant notion of the natural. The queer is the taboo-breaker, the monstrous, the uncanny. Like the Phantom of the Opera, the queer dwells underground, below the operatic overtones of the dominant; frightening to look at, desiring, as it plays its own organ, producing its own music."

something interesting i realized while on the vessel-making screen in the deltarune introduction is that it's physically impossible to make kris: there is no hair that perfectly matches theirs (none have the cowlick or the right jagged shape on the bottom), and there is no sweater that perfectly matches theirs (none have a single stripe). this is fascinating, as it perhaps suggest that, if we (the player) had a choice, we *wouldn't* make kris. they aren't something we want, or are even capable of wanting, rather something we're stuck with.
and i suppose the fact that they can't be *created* as a vessel is telling, because we didn't create kris -- they weren't made for us, they're not a player avatar. they're a pre-existing person we just happen to gain possession of.
we weren't made for each other; they don't want us, and we don't seem to want them either (if the inability to choose to create someone like them says anything); funny, then, that in a way we're "soulmates"...
(both pictures are from the deltarune wiki!)

The orange peel theory
You saw this trend on TikTok, and now you must try it with your boyfriend. Would they pass the test?
General verses / sfw / ninja guys are late 20's
Tumblr media
"Honey, I was wondering if you could help me peel this orange," you say before sitting next to him on the couch. His favorite show was about to start.
Leo looked at the orange, then at you, before taking it with a sweet smile. "Gladly."
This man never misses an opportunity to impress you.
Leo peeled a fragment with the sharp end of his katana, then removed it entirely with precise movements. He stole a few glances at you, wearing a flirty smile.
"Thank you, Leo."
He grins. "It's always an honor to help you."
Tumblr media
"Babe, are you busy?"
Raphael turned, his eyes lighting up at the sight of you.
"I was just about to go on patrol. Why?"
"Would you mind helping me peel this orange?"
He tilted his head. You weren't one to ask for help with trivial stuff. Yet, Raphael shrugged, minding the way your eyes seemed to sparkle. It brought a smile to his face.
"Sure! Pass it over."
Raph peeled the orange, mindful not to bruise it as you admired the strength in his hands and his clumsy attempt at gentleness.
"Here you go."
It looked ridiculously tiny in his hand. You giggled. "Thanks, babe."
"Thanks?" Raph leaned over the wall, trapping you between his plastron and the bricks. "A kiss is the price to pay," he teased.
Tumblr media
"Hey, love, I was wondering if you'd help me peel my orange?"
Donatello tuned to you, adjusting his glasses over his nose. "Of course, I'd be happy to assist," he gave you a sweet smile before cleaning up his hands.
"Would you like the orange peeled only, or do you want it sliced into wedges? I can put it on a plate— I think we have some little toothpicks around here; they'll help you eat it more comfortably," He said, moving through the place.
You weren't sure if he was talking to you or thinking out loud, but it mattered not. He definitely passed the vibe check. You were with the right man and couldn't be happier.
Tumblr media
"Mikey baby, would you help me peel this?" you said, handing him the orange.
He was thrilled anytime you made him feel needed.
"Sure thing, angel. Watch and learn from the master of orange-peeling!" he said in an attempt to show off.
He's probably waving unexisting brows.
You sighed in that endearing way that only surfaced when he was around. Mikey eagerly peeled the orange and then bowed to present it to you.
"Thank you, mister."
"Anything for my baby!"
He'll be happy if you ask to eat it together.

Yeah, so while I was on my "I'm going to read into Vanny/Vanessa as much as possible" journey, I noticed an odd quirk in her animations in how she moves. At first, I thought it reminded me of a ballerina, 'cause she's kinda tip-toeing, & she has this way of keeping her head & chest in one place as she moves, but I looked again & realized --
That's not ballet! She's doing a tight-rope act. Like, look at this one:
Tumblr media
This is like standing up on the wooden boards before you do the actual tight-rope walking, & the ring leader is hyping you up as you do some fun movement for the crowds. &, then, these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are all instances where she walks with one foot directly in front of the other. In that third, she's doing the "woaaah" wiggly-ass balance movements & everything, as if she's swaying up at the top of the tent, even though she's down on solid ground.
Idk, I feel like the way her feet are placed isn't accurate (pretty sure they should be pointed left & right, not both forwards...) doesn't make this 100% correct, but I like it. It also connects back with her first SB teaser, wherein she's up in the rafters.
#em.txt#security breach#fnaf sb#vanny#vannessa#okay but you can read more into this. tightrope acts are almost always associated with circus performances#& we know afton enjoyed himself a circus themeing -- made the whole circus baby peanut gallery & he was also a massive clown#see he's like molding her into one of his performers where he is the ring leader calling the shots#& she is the tightrope walker that the crowd watches with baited breath to see if she falls or makes it across#tightrope walking has also been associated with walking a line between two different worlds or extremes#so on one end she wants to obey afton & comply in killing & on the other she wants to hold onto her life as it was#& she's in the middle trying to not step too far to either side or else she's gonna fall & there is no safety net for her#there's also like. in ruin the vanni mask obscures reality. the vr world is completely different.#if vanny's mask has that tech in it then she's constantly stuck in vr. to her it may actually not look like#stable ground. it may look like she's miles up in the air about to fall. because that's what the glitch needs her to see#because if she saw that wherever she next planted her food foot was safe stable ground she might not be so anxious to keep on#moving down this path#wait hold on is this all an optical illusion & I'm seeing it wrong is it the angle#IT'S TOO LATE THE POST IS MADE HIT POST#did i just pull a matpat misread a minor detail & extrapolate unintended overly detailed info#that is inherently untrue bc the detail it's based on isn't there/is incorrect?#see this is why the game theory channel should have gone to me i can do this matpat bullhonkus no prob bob!

Thought back to how everyone went off with the parallels between Lucy and Katniss bowing and. Guys. GUYS. Yes there's some of Lucy in Katniss (more so with her singing) but no, Peeta is the one who reminds Snow of Lucy.
They're the ones with the endless charm who convinced the Capitol to like them, the sweetheart that won over everyone with words and smiles and knew how to play the games before they went into the arena. They knew how to perform and did it flawlessly, and knew the games started as soon as they were picked as tributes.
Katniss is Sejanus. The one from the districts that infiltrated the Capitol somehow, who always wants to do the right thing even if it comes with major repercussions. They're reckless, and they care way too much about their own people to the point it gets used against them.

One of Rincewind's tutors had said of him that "to call his understanding of magical theory abysmal is to leave no suitable word to describe his grasp of its practice." This had always puzzled him. He objected to the fact that you had to be good at magic to be a wizard. He knew he was a wizard, deep in his head. Being good at magic didn't have anything to do with it. That was just an extra, it didn't actually define someone.

Something interesting about IV’s role in the band and how it might contextualise the rest of the band.
In early sleep token, vessel is pissed off. Bitter and vengeful. He straight up wants to shoot his ex in Nazareth. He is raw and hurting and lashing out. Once we get to Sundowning, he really starts to crack. The beams of his ship are creaking and groaning against the strain of the relationship and the break with Blood Sport. (Mah boy deserved a cry.) All the anger has been reduced and condensed into IV, who has held onto some of that for the whole discography so far. He is the screamer, he is angry, he wants vigilante justice, or so going by his lyrics. Vessel has been a “stoic statue”; passive and a pushover, too fragile to think about taking action. IV wants the exes fucking heart on a plate, with a spike up their ass staked outside his house to discourage all from harming his wet cat man. Vessel used to be angry, but it has all left him now. Maybe the rest of the band have their own thoughts, being exposed to vessel’s entire history, and supporting him through it.

I just gotta say it’s an interesting choice to have a closed curtain behind Lover’s Lake in the same episode as Murray gives his curtain speech (2x05 Dig Dug).

I'm not sorry, but anyone who proclaims themselves to be a so-called Leftist or "ActiviSTS" and claims to care about minorities but have no issues with racist-ass convicted rapist Trump taking presidential power again is nothing more than a piece of horrid shit to me.
No, seriously, I'm sick of rat-fuckers' self-righteous fake performative Losers that wanna act like they are on the same levels of actual hard-working Civil rights leaders that actually put in the real work of getting things done when these assholes can't even be bothered to get off there asses and Vote to stop America from becoming a possible nightmare theocratic dictatorship nation.
Yet they're still hoping for their imaginary Revolution to come through and fix everything,
If real deep shit were to go down, ya'll definitely wouldn't last and likely be the first ones to die and wouldn't know what the hell to do. But still want to cosplay as Revolutionaries and act like they give a Fuck about marginalized people,
I'm sick of performative ally nonsense.
Anybody who is willingly voting third-party or refusing to vote against Trump but still wanna act like they are being " GOOD allies " for minorities are fake-ass people who are performative activists. They are just Fascist supporting scumbags who are pretending to be Progressive.
I refuse to tolerate useful morons who seem to be alright with letting a unhinged mentality declining by the minute bigot who have said multiple times that he wants to be a dictator when he takes Office and will use his power to do the most heinous horrific shit imagble to those he sees as "The Enemies within ".
Anybody who is willingly OK to let this White-supremacists loving bastard take power again and refuses to do anything to stop him from doing so but still wanna believe they are a " inherently GoOd Morally Pure person " isn't as good of a person as they think they are.

Welcome to a series I'm calling:
Yes, that scene did foreshadow Mike's monologue was disingenuous
Because you'd be surprised how many times the show (even prior to s4) has poked fun at Mike's monologue in the most random ways.
The Bingham's Beautiful Performance
First we have Suzie's sister on the floor, bedazzled and sporting a veil all while her brother is filming. This is basically the kids attempting to present a tale of a romance ending in gruesome tragedy.
Tumblr media
Our bride here is El. The edition of the veil could be a nod to the loud majority's series long assumption that Mike and El are going to end the show together, preferably getting married.
Unfortunately, this is the closest thing they'll ever get to it, with the acknowledgement of that possibility in and of itself being mocked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This next shot makes the likelihood that these scenes are connected pretty much indisputable, that being the edition of the record player behind the bride's head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only reason they made a point of having Will push the radio out of El's way, was to subtly connect this moment in Surfer boy to the beautiful performance we saw at the Bingham's only a few episodes prior (scenes that are widely known to be filled with foreshadowing for the season's ending).
A few bylers have already talked about these parallels, so this isn't new knowledge per say. But I do know some have dropped it altogether as possible foreshadowing for whatever reason, while most fans outside of the byler fandom insist it only foreshadowed Eddie's death. However, I think there are too many details that equally, if not more connect it to Mike's monologue than to Eddie's death.
Some fans have also noticed how Will was missing in quite a few shots at the Bingham's, which is interesting, but not all that surprising. Especially in this case...

Will. Will is the director
Director Will: GET THAT RADIO OUT OF MY SHOT!
Will directed the monologue when he used his feelings to inspire Mike, with the reminder of it (literally in the moment) directing Mike to confess to El, just like Suzie's brother directed that beautiful performance. Both performances convincingly left its audience thinking that the performers feelings in that moment were believable and...
