Seoul Busters Ep. 2
Minseo, don't fall for a man just based on how he looks. The ones with pretty faces are even more dangerous.

The Frog

TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
The Frog (2024, South Korea)
Director: Mo Wan Il
Writer: Son Ho Young
Mini-review:
Wow, I didn't think I would enjoy The Frog so much. I guess I was in the mood for a dark, propulsive thriller. I've seen some people say it's 'slow', but like... where? This kept me glued to the screen from the very first episode, and it got more and more intense throughout the next ones. It even ventures into psychological horror territory from time to time, which made it even more fun to me. The writing isn't perfect (some of the characters aren't as well developed as they should), but the directing and the acting more than make up for it. Go Min Si turns in a particularly strong performance, and it's clear she gave it her all. I'm not gonna say this is the best thriller k-drama I've seen, but it was definitely enjoyable as hell.

SEOUL BUSTERS
GENRES: Comedy, Action
SUMMARY: What Violent Crimes Team 2 lacks in police professionalism, they make up for in creativity, camaraderie, and determination.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Annoying kindergarteners, chance taxi encounters, terrible beauticians, theater club know-how, gourmet senses of smell, boxing prowess, marksmanship, dinosaurs, traumatic relationships, and embracing the weird.
HOT TAKE: I was NOT in the mood for a show this silly when it first started. I came to realize, however, that shows like this that don't take themselves seriously AT ALL will eventually win my heart.
The Team wraps up a different case every few episodes, but there's a little string (necessary or not) that ties them all together to keep all 20 episodes worth sticking around for. Each member might not be the best at their job overall, but they are perfect for the roles they are assigned.
Dozens of great cameos--I dare you to spot them all! Special cameo appearance by mah girl, SK's National Halmeoni, Kim Young Ok!
Watch this when you need a laugh and need something to pivot to when everything else gets just too damn rough out there.

Park Ji Hwan and Choi Young Joon, everyone’s favourite (fictional!) in laws from the kdrama Our Blues, were chosen by Cartier to be the brand ambassadors and celebrate the brand’s Trinity Collection 100th anniversary in Harper’s Bazaar Korea July 2024.

There's something so selfless about the way in which Ji Hyuk is in love with Jiwon. It feels closer to devotion and worship than the usual romantic love. For me, its all in the eyes. The way he looks at her. My God. I am longing for you. I am yearning for you. I know you. I want to know you more. I am drawn to you. I cannot stop. I am so sorry I let you slip away the first time. Never again. Nothing matters more to me than you. My nightmares are made of being separated from you but your happiness matters more to me than my fear. But. If you say I am your happiness. Then I am yours. Let me save you. Oh? You want to save yourself? Then, at least, let me be the solid land you stand on. I love you so much I am content just looking at you. Even if my eyes give me away. I am content just being around you. Everything I do and everything I am, yours.
I think that is the purest, almost unattainable form of love. Maybe that is why it took two lifetimes to get it right. To want someone so much that you would do something so counterintuitive and difficult so as to hold yourself back. She is his whole world. And yet, he was willing to let her go.
I am in love with you. It goes on and on and on and it never goes away.

THE ROUNDUP
GENRES: Action, Drama
SUMMARY: Kidnapping and ransoming Korean tourists overseas is big business, and baby, business is booming.
THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Suitcases full of cash, reformed gang bosses, Vietnamese travel, prisoner transfers, car chases, Summer heat, face slaps, single punches that incapacitate, international intelligence, terrible police sketches, machetes, and evil glances.
HOT TAKE: There should have been a subtitle to this movie--maybe 'Roundup: The Stabbening'--to prepare me for all the the thousands of little jabs, slices, and deep cuts this film has to offer. Just like in 'The Outlaws,' this one is jam packed with face slaps, insane punches, and some truly amazing stunt work. (Also some really questionable opinions on Vietnam and Vietnamese policing.)
I kinda love seeing Son Suk Ku as a villain! His dialogue is sparse here, but it just gives him more room for some stellar face and body-language acting, something that I enjoy him masterclassing whether he's a bad guy or a sweetie pie.

There are some characters who live an unfair life and do anything to change it. in the end, the only thing that changes is themselves, not their miserable life. maybe they shouldn't want higher and better things, maybe they should just settle for that crappy life.
