i really don’t think it’s “typical dragon age fandom nonsense” for people to be genuinely upset about the world state choices. combat, level design, art direction, gameplay gimmicks, those have all varied across each dragon age game. the one thing that’s remained constant are nods to our previous choices.
i wasn’t expecting my HoF to come riding in on a griffon, but i can’t find a monument dedicated to warden tabris somewhere around the anderfels? lucanis couldn’t have some lines about the time that one arainai boy was stirring up trouble in antiva city? you’re gonna tell me that making a mage the new divine wouldn’t have some impact on nevarra and antiva? on the anderfels, the supposed most devout militant andrastian nation in thedas? you’re saying nobody in the north is paying attention to who rules orlais or ferelden? come on.
#dragon age#yes i’ve seen john epler’s explanation on only wanting to carry forward choices that they could ‘really do something with.’#and i understand what he’s saying and i’m curious to see how those 3 choices they brought forward will impact the story!!#but i’m still disappointed. and i think telling people why they shouldn’t be disappointed is just gonna make them More disappointed.#also don’t really appreciate dev comments like ‘careful what you wish for with cameos. it just gives us an excuse to find new and horrific#ways to kill your faves teehee 🤭🤭’ like okay???????? what???#alistair came back twice & could be fine both times. loghain’s inquisition cameo was so meaningful because who the hell expected to see him#again? leliana can straight up die in origins and yall brought her back anyways. like what are we doing out here.#also when i think of ‘typical’ nonsense for this fandom it’s people doxxing each other over fictional character opinions. or what#fictional side your fictional inquistor took in the fictional mage-templar war. or just plain old racism.#NOT ‘damn it’s fucking upsetting that this excited replay i’ve been doing of the previous games and all the recommending i’ve been doing#for new fans to play the other games before veilguard has turned out to be pretty fucking pointless.’#might as well tell someone to watch a let’s play of trespasser and that’s it.#11/26 in a hater mood so i’m turning rbs back on lol. go forth & be petty

reposting this bc the OP blocked me (and is blocking anyone else who disagrees which means blocked people can't reblog) and i want to say this loud and with my whole chest!!!!!
another Dragon Age fic was recently outed as being AI, and this is what the writer had to say for themselves about it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so actually, Grammarly uses generative AI and is just as bad as ChatGPT. it also objectively makes your writing worse, it sucks the voice out of your prose and turns it into corporate sounding homogenized paste. it's also unethical for all the same reasons any generative AI is unethical. get a writing group and have a real human beta read for you if you don't trust yourself to check your own grammar etc. but honestly something unpolished and written entirely by your human brain and human imagination will ALWAYS be better than AI slop.
also, the part about published authors doing this is patently untrue. i know this is a huge problem in the self-publishing space, but most publishers now are including clauses in their contracts that expressly forbid the use of AI in ANY part of the creative process. this includes using ChatGPT to generate or clean up outlines or Grammarly to spellcheck and revise. so if you're trying to publish, don't fucking do this or you could literally be asked to return an advance if you get caught.
i've posted about this in the past, but AI detectors are actually shocking accurate these days. i've tested them extensively recently and they can consistently and correctly flag individual sentences written by ChatGPT in an otherwise original passage. and they almost never flag false positives. so the argument that AI detectors can't be trusted is just flat out wrong. are they correct 100% of the time? no. but can they indicate with a high degree of accuracy if AI was used in some capacity? absolutely, especially if there is additional evidence.
and for all the people hand wringing about AI detectors flagging false positives, let me just say this: if something is not AI written it is very easy to prove. you can't write anything of any considerable length without leaving a massive paper trail of notes and drafts. almost all writing software tracks changes and makes it very easy to prove you wrote something yourself. being falsely being accused of AI isn't actually a real problem and is only being made to seem as such by people who are trying to get away with and justify using AI or who are worried about getting caught.
i think a lot of people are just lured by a seemingly easy shortcut, and to their untrained eye, what the AI is spitting out feels "better" to them than their own writing. but i promise you it's not. trust your own brain and put in the work to improve at your craft rather than outsourcing the gift of your imagination to a robot that steals from other people's work.
i will continue to die on this hill!!!!!

The more I think about it, the more I question Arcane S2's politics and themes, which were so foundational to S1. Like, a tiny example [SPOILERS AHEAD]:
Singed wins. He gets exactly what he wants in the end. All his "efforts" are rewarded. What does that say about people who share his ideology of eugenics? He is the source of nearly every horrible thing and conflict that happened (Shimmer, the factory deaths, Jinx, Vander as Warwick, the corruption of Viktor), and he gets a happier ending than any other character. Not even a 'he got what he wanted but he has become completely unrecognizable/monstrous to his daughter' tag at the end. You can say they're setting him up and need to open his daughter to future shows, but the way you end a character's story says something about what you think about that character. What does it say when the eugenicist war criminal gets the happy ending he doesn't deserve?

Organia Fanzine | Merle Decker, 1982
“We used to come here all the time when we were kids,” Jim told him, flopping down on his back on the grass, “because nobody ever bothered us.” Spock followed his lead more gingerly, making sure there were no nettles or honeybees beneath him before he allowed himself to sit.
Curiously, he examined the strange vegetation around them: white filigree Queen Anne’s lace, exotic milkweed pods bursting with silky down, thistles with their soft, shaggy indigo flowers. A yellow butterfly drifted by on effortless wings. For once, Jim knew the variety, he did not.
Jim reached up and stroked his cheek fondly. “You never stop being a scientist, Spock.”
“The vegetation here is extremely rich,” he muttered, studying the drops of white fluid that seeped from a broken milkweed stem.
“I’ll bet you could spend a lifetime studying it.” Jim took his hand gently and lifted it from the grass to hold it in his own.
The cool, firm touch struck a chord of pleasure within him, and he looked at Jim, an eyebrow raised. “At least a lifetime.”
Jim squeezed his hand. “The hell with Starfleet, then. The hell with the Admiralty, the Lexington, the Outer Rim -- Let’s stay right here.”
Spock’s heart thudded ridiculously, so hard he had to turn his face away, afraid his expression would betray him. “It is warmer here than in San Francisco,” he said irrelevantly.
Jim nodded. “Almost as warm as Vulcan. But you’d have to hibernate in the winter.”
“Actually, I should prefer to stay awake,” Spock answered drily.
Kirk pulled himself up by Spock’s hand and leaned toward him. “What would you do without your computers?” he asked lightly, trying to sound mock-teasing. But the undertone of sadness in his voice betrayed him.
Spock shook his head ruefully. “My computers. And your command.”
He had not meant to sound bitter, but Kirk’s eyes clouded over, and he was silent for several moments. Finally, he spoke. “I need you, too, you know.”
Spock nodded, looking down at his hand, still holding Kirk’s. “I know.”
“You’re probably going to tell me now that both needs are illogical.”
The words pricked a schoolboy memory somewhere deep in the recesses of Spock’s mind, and a corner of his mouth curved up infinitesimally.
“Why’re you smiling?” Kirk asked, puzzled. Spock looked at him quizzically. Only Jim would read that gesture as a smile.
“You have reminded me of a well-known problem…”

THIRTY-ONE DAYS OF GHOST ⛧ DAY ONE
first song you heard — Mary On A Cross
September 1969; Papa Nihil and the beginning of the Ghost Project take to the stage at the Whiskey a Go Go club in Los Angeles, under the watchful eye of Sister Imperator. Fifty-three years later, in Tampa, Florida, Papa Emeritus the Fourth performs Mary On A Cross, unaware that he is singing the story of his parents—and that of himself.

Don't worry guys, he's been through this before.
Kara (talking on the phone): Nightwing, where are you?
Dick (casually): I'm in the hospital.
Kara (confused): You had a doctor's appointment today?
Dick: No, I was in the middle of fighting these goons when a gun went off. I thought I was fine… until I realized a bullet ended up in my body.
Kara glanced at Raven, who shrugged, equally surprised.
Kara: What?
Dick: I got shot! I thought you had super hearing.
Raven laughed dryly, but Kara groaned not amused by the joke.
Kara: Don't act like what you said was completely normal. Where were you shot?
Dick (nonchalantly): My head.
Kara (in disbelief): Bitch… are you joking?
Dick (shrugging it off): Nope. It’s okay, I've been through this before… though we don’t talk about those dark days.
Raven (deadpan): He’s not lying. Ask him how long that bullet was lodged in there.
Kara (in disbelief): How long was this bullet in your head?
Dick: About four days. I could've gone a lifetime with it stuck there, but last night when I was having sex with Kori, I started convulsing at the worse time. Like I was deep and right at the climax-
Kara: Didn't need to add that detail, but you did.
Dick: It adds to the story. Anyways she's with me in the hospital. I started shaking Kori said drooling as well. It stopped, but as I rested on top of Kori that’s when I thought, 'Okay, this is something I should deal with.' I'm fine now, and we'll be there soon.
Kara (raising her voice): Oh my God, stay in the hospital! You got shot!
Dick: Yeah… but I’m fine now. They removed the bullet and it's been like a day. Kori's holding it.
Kori: The human body is fascinating seeing as this was lodged in your brain for four days. That and your tough as steel.
Dick: Aww, thank you. Oh and Kara don't worry I just have to sign some papers and then be ready to fight.
Kara: Cool, stay at the hospital.
Raven: Show us the bullet later though!
Dick: But... I want to fight. I cleared my whole schedule for this trip.
Kori (sighing, annoyed): Dickie baby, the doctor, me, your father and Kara are on the same page, you are staying in the hospital!
Dick (whining, frustrated): This is so unfair! Thanks a lot, Kara!
Kara: Don’t get snippy with me because you couldn’t go past four days with a bullet in your small brain!
Dick: I am ten times smarter than you! You know what? You're rude, bye!
Dick ended the call abruptly, leaving Kara stunned and making Raven laugh loudly.
Kara: When was he shot in the head before?
Raven: None of us like to talk about it.
Kara: Right, I'll just conclude that him and his family are strange people.
Raven (flatly): That's usually the best answer for them.
