yeah ur addition abt brushes mattering is so true, i dont think i really came into my current style until i tried out aliasing for my lineart
exactly! ill never understand brush gatekeeping (other than for certain reasons, like how i wont share brushes that ppl have given me in private bc theyre not mine to share, sometimes ppl wont share them bc they want to sell them etc) or saying it doesnt matter lol.... ppl who do so are always like "um having my brushes wont make u draw exactly like me! 🙄" like yeah, they wont. that's not what anyone expects. but also, if they wont magically make someone draw exactly like you then what exactly is your problem with sharing them lol what are you afraid of !
i've used TONS of brushes from artists who have shared them and i hate most of them because they don't fit my way of working even after editing settings, which is why i know they do matter when you get your hands on brushes that fit your line weight, strokes, style, texture, preferences, etc. if that makes sense....
#skunk mail#kingmystrie#the hhh2 brush i use is used by tons of other ppl#i found out abt it thru jeluto (the creator) and thatskidding#our styles vary wildly. using this brush did not effect anything lmfao#sometimes ill recognize the brush in other art pieces and be like woah same brush but it looks so different! bc#its been edited to the other persons' likes#now i will say ive seen ppl who use my brushes and. then copy my other art traits to emulate my stuff exactly. lol#and that is strange. but what a weird thing to think that anybody who has the same brush as u wants to go down this path#i just like the texture man. and i might not even like the pen pressure settings you have for it bc im a whole different person#and changing the settings might change the brush's appearance completely....so....whats the problem#also there's obvs nuance#i have a mutual that has spent hours crafting brushes and assets for their illustrations and they dont want to sell them#so obvs they wldnt just give them to people for free#but there's a difference between that and the people who are huuuuuuge bitches about it 😭 i dont WANT to draw like you. i just#want the nice textured brush to try#ALSO insanely weird of them to assume that the only ppl who want to use their brushes are amateur artists that want instant gratification#or whatever! you're weird!

Dear Big Brother
kind of a sequel to this comic
#FINALLY FINISHED IT. THIS HAS BEEN SITTING UNFINISHED FOR ALMOST A FUCKING YEAR#and of course i get around to it right after making that stupid masterpost. well there's another one to add i guess#anyway. this was originally now that you're gone part 2. basically aryll's counterpart to their dad's perspective#botw#loz#skribbles#i will say ignoring this for so long was good actually because it confirmed my suspicions that my pen pressure no longer works#the way it used to. so if you see any weird inconsistencies between panels or pages it's not me it's my fucking tech#for some reason i need WAY more pressure than i used to to get the same level of opacity in sai which is. not great for my hands#but whatever ive gotten used to it by now. ignore the inconsistencies in this comic its fine

I like to think that after the Eclipse Cannon, Robotnik would try to show his love and appreciation more openly!
I also like to think that he would do it terribly and it would backfire constantly.

The greatest mystery in bbc merlin to this day is just what was Arthur thinking every time he dragged Merlin into danger with him like some kind of emotional support plushie without any protection.
Sometimes I get the feeling Arthur thought he just made up Merlin in his mind and he isn't real. Like, he's just an imaginary friend who keeps him entertained, makes up silly words, understands him to the core and always has the right answers, often times answers he doesn't like, but the subconscious do be like that.
He doesn't need armour or any protection cause he isn't real. Plus it's easy to keep being mean to your best friend for no reason when you think he's actually you - and you're always mad at you
#I mean that servant guy was weird as a concept not to mention an actual human being#so who could blame arthur#merlin headcanons or whatever#two sides of the same coin#bbc merlin#merthur#enough you're going in the queue

So curious so enticing so puzzling hehe#Those little threads coming off them and the way they overlap - and that they've already started getting glimpses of the future by then#Hm hmmm#They were deterred from using blue magic so soon after that - understandable from Gaster's paranoia but hmngh!!!!#If they ever tried to blue magic on him at the same time I really wonder what would've happened#It would have to be different from other skeletons right? "gordon and alyx can have a sibling dynamic i think" wrong interpretation: Gordon sees Alyx as a little sister to be humored and protected, Alyx sees Gordon as an idolized big brother figure correct interpretation: these are two adults who know each other on such a deep level that they are a fucking nightmare. they're the time when i worked food service and my brother came in and asked "hey can i get something to eat" and I glared at him and sneered "I don't know, CAN you?" and scared my unknowing coworkers into thinking I'd finally snapped. except my brother and i don't have alien superpowers yet
YOU GET IT EXACTLYYYYYYYYYYYYY . they're like two cats bonded at a shelter. You get it you understand completely THANK YOU for wording it so perfectly . Yeah. Yeah 🧡 this is so beautiful
#Theyre a package deal whatever they are. Their weird beautiful psychic bond#I always have a mental image of someone being like . Wow.... it must be hard for Gordon to adapt........#And then there's like a pan out to him and Alyx playing with the gravity gun and blowing stuff up#And they're like. No he's fine actually I think she's having More fun here#They've both seen thru the fabric of space time I think when they meet in hl2 there's a spideyverse moment of You're Like Me#They know eachother so deeply and immediately I think.#It's also the like. I think Alyx was already kind of a harbinger of chaos and when her and Gordon meet its like. Scary for everyone else#Gordon no longer confined to rules and laws and safety regulations she's having soooooooo much fun.#hl2#asks#transmission

hi Silver! o/ because that fanart made me wonder - would you happen to know when/where Dick's stuffed elephant plush Zitka turns up in the comics?
GREETINGS CAM <3333 THAT ART WAS SO CUTE
Yeah, I think your instincts are right - it's a truly adorable bit of transformative fandom, but I'm 95% percent sure it's not comics canon. Barbara has canon plushies, but I don't think anyone else does.
I got kinda invested in the investigation (it's hard to prove a negative!) and I ended up typing out an entire History of Elinore/Zitka, so, uh, if you're curious, meet me below the cut for:
Where does Elinore / Zitka - the animal - appear in comics?
Did Dick ever have a stuffed elephant toy in comics?
Where does Elinore / Zitka appear in comics?
We're gonna go in chronological order!
Dick's circus elephant friend was first created for practical reasons: in Batman 436, Marv Wolfman does a big expanded flashback to Dick's circus backstory as a way to subtly show us Tim before officially introducing him (so that we can have a technically-solvable mystery-of-Tim's-identity in LPoD). In this comic, there's an elephant named Elinore who loves Dick:
Aww. Such a cute elephant!
Batman 436 comes out in August 1989. New Titans 60 comes out a few months later, in November, and guess what? When Dick visits the circus, he is suddenly surprised by an unexpected blast from the past! It turns out that even though it's been years, Elinore still remembers him!
Here's the part where Elinore remembers Dick:
SUCH a cute elephant. I love her.
(Guess who else still remembers Dick even though it was so long ago. Guess which other character is about to be an unexpected blast from the past. Guess which character Elinore is directly paralleling guess guess guess sorry everything is about Dick and Tim in my mind but I can focus I swear)
Four years later, in 1993, Batman: The Animated Series retells Dick's origin story. They like and keep Wolfman's elephant, but they change her name to Zitka:
Wolfman doesn't return to the elephant beyond those two appearances, and a few years down the line, New Titans gets cancelled and Wolfman's not writing Dick anymore anyway. So the animal gets abandoned for a while, until Devin Grayson, a fan of both Wolfman and B:tAS, revives the Wolfman-era Titans team in JLA/Titans and then the ongoing series Titans 1999.
Grayson then brings back the elephant in a flashback to Dick's past in Titans 16 (Jun 2000), where she imports the B:tAS name. Sometimes I'm skeptical of TV-to-comics imports, but honestly, I endorse this one. You lose the alliteration, which is a shame, but IMO Zitka is a better elephant name than Elinore.
Here's Dick with the newly-christened Zitka in Titans 16:
Grayson also briefly references the elephant in Gotham Knights 20 and - in a final angsty callback - in Nightwing 88 (Feb 2004), where Zitka tries futilely to comfort Dick in the midst of his trauma conga line:
... And... honestly, I think that's it for comic appearances? The two Wolfman comics plus the three Grayson comics.
Both Wolfman and Grayson are writing multiple titles - Batman, New Titans, Titans, Gotham Knights, and Nightwing between the two of them, spanning a big chunk of Dick's post-Crisis canon - and both writers use the elephant for heartwarming moments of nostalgia, which means if you're doing a post-Crisis readthrough for Dick, Elinore/Zitka feels memorable. But I don't think she actually shows up that much.
For post-2011, I am not as well-informed - throwing this out to the dash? anyone know? - but I feel like Zitka the heartwarming symbol of Dick's heartwarming circus past is, uh, thematically very at odds with the Court of Owls evil!circus vibes, so my instinct is that this story element was almost certainly dropped in the reboot.
Did Dick ever have a stuffed elephant toy in comics?
In WFA, yes; in main comics continuity, no. Technically, I have not read every comic ever published, so I could be wrong!! But I don't think so.
Below, find my rambling reasoning on the tonal vibes of pre-Crisis, post-Crisis, and post-2011, and why this particular story element doesn't seem right to me for the first two.
Pre-Crisis (...okay, mostly the Silver Age): stuffed animal, yes or no?
tl;dr no, requires too much background knowledge on the part of the reader, plus the elephant wasn't a thing until later
Elinore doesn't get created until post-Crisis, but also just generally, pre-Crisis callbacks are more along the lines of this reference in Batman 129 (published in 1960), where, wow, Batman and Robin are hunting jewel thieves - and it turns out Robin recognized this strongman! BUT HOW?!
The comic goes on to recap Dick's entire origin story in flashback, on the assumption that you may not know it.
(BTW, if you'd like to know more about Haly's Circus throughout the years, nightwingology has a great post here summarizing a lot of fun plotlines and characters!)
Basically: Silver Age comics are very self-consciously episodic and kid-friendly; they're not generally gonna do overly-elaborate callbacks because they don't know what comics their kid readers may have randomly picked up or remember.
By the time of post-Crisis, comic books were being written for an adult audience buying from the direct market, i.e. readers who are collecting whole runs & don't need or want Dick's origin story to be recapped to us in full every time it's referenced. That's why in post-Crisis, we get stuff like "hey, neat, this particular soda brand is getting mentioned in several different books!!" or "in order to understand this story arc, buy SIXTEEN DIFFERENT COMICS in FIVE DIFFERENT RUNS and read them ALL ACCORDING TO A NUMBERED ORDER and also you better be following the individual plotlines and recognize these five minor characters who we don't bother to introduce!! Good luck!!" But the elaborate post-Crisis plotlines - and subtler worldbuilding like a stuffed animal callback to Dick's backstory - don't make a lot of story sense UNLESS you're imagining your readers as completionist adult fans.
So IMO a stuffed animal wouldn't be a pre-Crisis thing unless it was The Episodic Story Of the Week, and I don't think a stuffed animal is action-adventure-y enough for the fast-paced storytelling of the Silver Age. (Unless it, like, came to life and tried to eat you or something.)
Post-Crisis: stuffed animals, yes or no?
tl;dr: no, Dick's a manly tough guy, he's not gonna have a stuffed animal, that'd be lame, like something Tim might do
Part of the edgy grimdark adult vibes in 80s/90s comics is that some characters who used to be kinda silly & goofy & lighthearted - like Batman and Robin - get reimagined as Serious and Angsty and Edgy in a Tough Cool Manly Brooding Way. This massively affects characterization for Bruce, Dick, and Bruce and Dick's relationship.
(I obviously love this change & love the tense Bruce-and-Dick interactions, but plenty of fans of the earlier fluffy comics really disliked the edgy retcons of Miller / Wolfman / Starlin / et al.)
The upshot is that post-Crisis is a period when you could have a recurring reference like a stuffed elephant, but you wouldn't have a stuffed elephant, not for Dick. I think a toy like that would be too cutesy / childish / effeminate to give a male character in post-Crisis, unless you were poking fun at him.
Now, you could probably let Tim have a stuffed animal, because Tim is sometimes cool but also sometimes a tryhard loser who is faking being cool and not entirely pulling it off (see e.g. the Robin comic where he practices tough-guy faces in the mirror, or the Teen Titans comic where Conner discovers his cringy Enya CD, or when he's fanboying over Connor and it's awkward, etc etc.). A stuffed animal would be deeply embarrassing, and you'd have to be careful to compensate by having Tim do something cool afterward - but Tim's character concept allows for "he's kind of a loser sometimes."
But Dick isn't!! In post-Crisis, Dick's a tough / impressive / "cool guy" character, the kind of guy anyone would want to be, even in the flashbacks where he's Robin, and even in the stories where he's more lighthearted than angsty. It'd be kinda lame for Dick to have a stuffed elephant, so he wouldn't. I feel like Dick would be more likely to poke fun at it if someone had one, like when he's making fun of Wally for liking the Hardy Boys. Dick could have a Batman action figure, at most, and if he had one he would have it ironically.
Basically: in post-Crisis, a male character hugging a stuffed elephant feels more likely to be a punchline to me, not something poignant. (Even with Tim, Tim could have an embarrassing stuffed animal, but he couldn't hug it when sad - that's too far. Maybe Booster Gold might do this. Probably he wouldn't, but spiritually, he would. Sorry Booster ilu! <3)
Instead, Dick instinctively deals with his inner turmoil like the TORTURED ACTION HERO he is: by punching things and brooding and yelling and joining the mob and sleeping on rooftops and going on obsessive secret missions and acquiring Angsty Stubble!! Just like Batman!
(Technically I don't know if Bruce ever joined the mob but you know he would.)
Anyway as you know this is my favorite continuity and I am poking fun affectionately, but uh, yeah sdfsfdsfs. No stuffed animals.
Post-2011 / Infinite Frontier / Wayne Family Adventures: stuffed animals, yes or no?
tl;dr it's in WFA! Probably not anywhere else, but it could be.
Post-2011 stuff tends to be cutesier overall, most of all in the current Infinite Frontier era. So I don't feel like this would be tonally out-of-line with IF comics. Taylor tends to go for more meme-y references rather than fanfic references, though.
So the obvious best fit is WFA, which is aiming for a rough approximation of Silver Age family-friendly vibes - wholesome, episodic plots, Teaching Good Moral Lessons For The Youth, etc. - plus lots of Easter eggs for fanfic readers and some comic references.
And look, here we are:
Aww.
Whew - that's everything I could find!
Anyway as you can probably tell, I LOVE the elephant, so this was a very entertaining rabbit hole to go down, thank you <3
#dick grayson#anyone with more info feel free to chime in & we can crowdsource <3#i do think the toy elephant is awfully cute though <3#total digression but i was thinking about it as i was writing:#i'm fascinated by the ways that the post-crisis batboys & their stories can intersect with 90s masculinity and all its issues with stoicism#and i'm pro-queering and gender-bending - 90s comics were a total boys' club so i think it's neat that transformative fandom isn't#but i do love 90s masculinity and All Its Issues too & one of the things i find compelling about the dick-tim-bruce trio#& especially dick's place in it - is the unspoken hierarchy whereby bruce is manlier than dick & dick is manlier than tim#and so dick's in the middle as this somewhat softer-character who aspires to be a harsher & more stoic & ultimate manly-man character#caught in the middle between robin & batman & what each role represents#and like. batman is both manhood & the only desirable thing to be AND ALSO it represents this immense narrowing of possibility#because so much of stereotypical masculinity is about reducing the range of emotions you're allowed to have or express#and dick is both incredibly conflicted about bruce AND wants to be just like him & by extension is conflicted about masculinity writ large#so a lot of dick's interactions with tim veer between trying on a frat-boy-ish 'I'm The Manly Guy' persona vs. giving up on it#or trying on imitations of Bruce's Batman persona but also trying to backtrack out of it bc he doesn't like how it feels etc etc#ANYWAY i think what i am trying to say is that if tim had a stuffed animal dick would be entertained & poke mild fun at him#and call him 'teddy' for the next hour or something while tim got increasingly defensive about how the teddy bear was steph's#and/or about how the teddy bear was OLD and tim doesn't even care about it and also WHATEVEr i'm above this#and to an uninformed observer this might look like bullying BUT ACTUALLY#this ritual would IN FACT be very reassuring to both of them + tim would feel WAY better afterward than if dick had ignored it#because by poking fun at him dick shows he still respects tim enough to tease him thus subtextually exorcising the threat of wimpiness#plus allowing tim to defend himself & demonstrate that he can take a joke so they've both reaffirmed their masculinity to each other#& they don't have to be scared of the teddy bear and all it represents anymore#however also afterward dick would have a brief nostalgic flashback to when he was a kid & had a teddy bear & feel weird about the memory#because he would be unable to articulate to himself that what he misses is a past when he allowed himself to be vulnerable#anyway this wouldn't actually happen in comics but it's what would happen in my soul. you know.#ask tag#zitka

there is a difference between being born to a throne, maliciously vying for a throne, stealing a throne, and having a throne thrust upon you when you are already in the midst of an identity crisis. And I fear Loki's place in the line of succession has people unable to differentiate between any of these
#you can't really argue he planned the extent of Thor's downfall#that was all Odin#Loki didn't force Thor to invade Jotunheim he isn't even the one who gave Thor the idea -- Thor did that all on his own!#that he was doing waswasa @ thor didn't help but wasn't really crime worthy on its own#Thor himself took time convincing the other warriors to be okay with the trip despite the treason and danger involved#like. what. Thor can't differentiate good advice from bad and is emotionally volatile and reckless and that's Loki's fault?#THOR was the one who got them past Heimdall too#the entire ordeal inadvertently showed off the favouritism Thor was receiving in comparison to Loki#even though Loki was the one supposedly so easily influencing Thor to such an extent#call Thor a puppet the way he--wait. no. that sounds weird. uhhhhh#you get the point#people will claim Loki was all up in there rearranging Thor's mental processes to cause his downfall#when really it was Loki doing the bare minimum instigation and watching things only devolve from there#because Thor WAS reckless and immature ?? and he WAS quick to anger and enjoyed exerting his power with violence ??#Loki didn't STEAL THE THRONE FROM THOR he literally just is implied to undermine the coronation#that's not even confirmed but we assume it's true that he let the frost giants in near the casket etc.#Loki has his own actual crimes that he did against Thor and hugging his bro's arm and saying 'you're soooooo strong and correct' was not on#even if you manage to argue Loki was cheering Thor on for the invasion (he wasn't) it was clearly to dob Thor in with Odin#which he did when he had some guard inform Odin#that Odin's chosen punishment was for Thor's disobedience aside stop blaming Loki for the damage ODIN inflicted on him#focus on Loki making up lies to Thor about how Odin died instead like at least Loki DID SOMETHING for that#you can even ascribe as evil a motive as you want there bc Loki was slipping fr#twirling his hair and telling Thor he's smarter about the realm's safety than the king was on the normal scale#you want to talk morals go look at how eager Thor was to invade mass destroy and massacre in the other realm#and expected Odin to 'finish them off! together!' bc he was power high on whatever bloodlust pheromones battle apparently imitates for him#sigh. this is why you can't have nice things Thor. no Loki you're barely any better. sit down. have a cookie.

okay final post. i think part of the reason why i hated taash's story so much is i DID find it relatable, they remind me a lot of myself at sixteen: coming out as a teenager and being extra sensitive to anyone who doesn't immediately understand you and lashing out at your well-meaning but uninformed parents is pretty common. shathann dying before this is resolved and taash realising they were needlessly cruel out of fear of rejection COULD have been heartbreaking and an actual good way of pushing the regret theme, but this isn't what happens lol. taash acting the way they do could be fine, i like it when a character has flaws and an exploration of how messy coming out as trans is would be an interesting subversion of how fucking boring coming out stories become when you reach a certain age, but the fact that rook can't really tell them to cut it out and the fact that they have literally no reflection or regret beyond "i wish my mum and i had had more time together but at least she didn't misgender me as she died 👍🏻" makes it feel as though the writers actually think them treating their mum the way they do is somehow satisfying or good, because the game's narratives feel like they were spat out of an ai trained solely on reddit aita posts. and that isn't even getting into the multicultural angle which needs a whole essay by itself and i've already annoyed myself too much for one morning.
#like as someone who did have a very similar experience. losing a parent between coming out and transitioning and#kind of regretting that period of rebellion i had. the conclusions drawn in the story and the way rook is forced to react suuuck so hard#even if they were an educational character for cis people it COULD have been interesting to portray the rawness of coming out and#how defensive you get. it might have been a good way of subverting the idea that trans people get too mad about#misgendering or whatever. like trying to meet vg at its level they could have had a nice convo with rook#where they're angry at themself for yelling at shathann just before she died and trans rook is like 'ouguh noo i was the same. you were#waiting for rejection because you were afraid of it. but you know what ? [crosses arms] you're alright.'#yk???#my memory is kind of fuzzy because it was a while ago but iirc when i tried to defend shathann at the dinner all my rook could say#was 'she'll come around :)' like ? what. she didnt even reject them.#i think i would like to actually go deep on vg's weird relationship with transness one day. like full essay. but id probably have to replay#and i dont think i can put myself through that yet lol

People in the LoTR fandom who keep saying things like "I hate all the Shipping" and "Why can't tumblr people just enjoy male friendships," or whatever. I know you're not trying to be homophobic and this probably sounds like a neutral statement to you that people who read the characters as gay are misinterpreting it somehow, but you can't say you're all for "non-toxic representations of masculinity" and then in the same breath say that making characters gay and in love undoes that representation somehow.
Many of the characters in Tolkien's work were inspired by friends he had in real life, and relationships he saw play out on the real battlefield, and there's no way to know what the nature of those relationships were. There's been some speculation one of Tolkien's friends who died young in World War I might have been a gay man. We know he was friends with a few queer authors and poets and that those works inspired his own. On top of that, World War I was kinda notable for being a huge turning point in queer culture, and there was an explosion of queer literature published post World War I because—as it turns out—when men and women are separated and social roles break down in circumstances of extreme violence and hardships—then same-sex relationships start to develop. When war breaks down the need for toxic male posturing—it also kinda breaks down the need to be seen as heterosexual. The fact characters like Sam and Frodo and Legolas and Gimli build intimate friendships that would have been considered un-likely or even un-seemly outside of wartime due to the social roles those characters occupy—like, there's a context there. Maybe you don't recognize it, and maybe Toklien himself didn't realize it was there, but that doesn't mean queer readers are wrong when they pick up on it. There were men on the battlefield in World War I who sought comfort with one another in a platonic way, and there were men on the battlefield in World War I who sought comfort in romantic way, and both are important. It's gross to say that only the former was Tolkien's focus, and that the latter being included in Lord of the Rings would somehow ruin the story or do a disservice to the memory of straight men. If Tolkien was all that concerned with providing good and positive examples of masculinity like you say he was, then why would he exclude queerness from masculinity? Why is it so important that these characters can love each other, but only in a platonic and socially acceptable way?
#lotr#I wasn't going to make this post but then in the course of 5 hours three people started arguments with me on this topic#also Tolkien wrote some really really good romance and it's weird people get mad at women and queer fans who like the romantic aspects#like you're not standing up for masculine ideals or whatever#Gay people read work with gay perspective: more at 10#this rant has so many typos I swear I'm smart

I swear when I see stuff on ao3 descriptions like "this Peeta will have a spine" and "Peeta isn't going to bend over backwards for Katniss for once" I'm just like...yeah, I'mma skip this one, you clearly don't understand Peeta or Everlark.
#everlark#the hunger games#peeta mellark#peeta supremacy#it feels like when people used “simp” when the dude was just being a good boyfriend or respectful to women#peeta does challenge katniss like i don't get this weird characterization that he just goes along with whatever she wants?#i guess respecting her is just him not having a spine huh#should have just guilted her and forced her to go along with what he wanted like gale did#and not to say you can't make peeta ooc because that can be pulled off well#it's the attitude of thinking you're making him better
