Probably making excuses about waiting for the "right" writing conditions or inspiration to strike, rather than putting in the effort to establish a regular writing habit. In 2025, I'd like to make writing a priority again. Also not finishing what I've started! 2021/2022 showed me I still have the ability to finish things when I put my mind to it, I just need to work on my discipline!

Oooh good question...probably anything longer than a one-shot, because it's been years (decades, even!) since I attempted to tackle anything longer than a single scene or that required more than one chapter. I do have ideas for a bunch of longer, multi-chapter fics that I really want to bring to life though, even though the additional planning and time commitment involved feels intimidating (sometimes TOO intimidating). Things like my "Nihlus lives" Garrus/Shepard/Nihlus AU, my "What Comes After" post-ME3 Shakarian epilogue, and my ME OC couple Caius and Kate's story, which takes place around roughly the same time as the trilogy.

All I have is a bunch of random, disconnected snippets from each so far, but here's two short snippets from early in Kate and Caius's story.

“What’s your name?” “Caius,” he said, dazedly. He was starting to feel light-headed. Probably from the blood loss. Or maybe from the shock. “Nice to meet you, Caius. I’m Kate.” She smiled at him. “You’re going to be alright, Caius. I just need you to keep talking to me, okay?” “Okay,” he said. “I think I’m just going to rest my eyes for a bit.” He closed his eyes, shutting out Kate’s concerned face and the bright blue false sky of the Presidium behind her. His consciousness felt light, untethered. Maybe he’d just nap until the paramedics arrived.

“You shouldn’t be out of bed yet,” she scolded him. “I’m starting to realise that.” He swayed on his feet, reaching for the wall. She caught his arm and pulled it over her shoulders, letting him lean on her. “Turians are the worst patients.” She sighed. “Come on, let’s get you back to your room.” She was much smaller than him and from this angle he could only see the top of her head. Beneath the strong antiseptic smell of the hospital, he caught a whiff of some kind of pleasant floral scent from her hair. He couldn’t put a name to it, but it reminded him of the flowers that grew near the Human Embassy on the Presidium.

I'm really looking forward to jumping into writing for Veilguard and specifically Lucanis/Rook. My favourite kind of stories to write are those "missing moments" in between what we see in canon and I think Veilguard (and especially Lucanis' romance) has a lot of potential in that regard. I have a bunch of ideas already, but here's a snippet from a WIP involving

“My grandmother asked to meet with you.” “Mmm.” Rook closed her eyes and tilted her head, smiling, as Lucanis pressed a kiss to her neck in greeting, his lips lingering over her skin. “Sorry, what?” “Caterina. She wishes to talk to you. About us.” Rook’s eyes snapped open and she turned to stare at him in shock. “You told your grandmother about us? Are you crazy?” He held his hands up in denial, shaking his head. “Not me. It was probably Teia, she and Caterina are close.” Rook groaned. “I had no idea Teia wanted me dead.” Lucanis chuckled and stroked her hair, tucking it behind her ear. “My grandmother isn’t going to kill you, Rook. She just wants to talk. She wishes to ‘meet with the woman who thinks she’s good enough for her grandson’.” “You don’t know that,” Rook countered. “She probably has a contract out on me already.”

🛏 Is there a new trope you'd like to write this year?

Do threesomes count? Haha. I have a bunch of poly ships/OT3s, but I've never actually written a threesome. I really want to write some Davrin/Lucanis/Rook though because I think the chemistry between the three of them is amazing!

My actual favorite part of wisdom saga is telemachus trying to lean against Athena (he thought about that for .03 seconds and then was like nah !!! :D she's my friend not the goddess of war!!! Good to see that the audacity is running strong in odysseus's family) and then just passed threw her and fell on the floor. And then Athena did not move at all!!! And just stood there looking at him.

By the way, a lot of readers tend to be surprised about it whenever I talk about it so here's another post to say that independent projects literally live and die by their audience's enthusiasm!! Even if YOU can't support something financially, spreading the word or making fan stuff to create a cool space for other folks to hang out in and engage with the work is just as important! My own comic was going to end this December without funding, and the only reason we've made as much progress as we have towards the goal was because my readers made such an effort to help it find the support it needs.

Indie creators are on our own out here, the only thing that can help us is the audience!! Every share or comment helps even if you think it doesn't!! Literally just existing in a tag so it's not totally dead when someone else goes looking is contributing something really significant to the projects you love, please don't forget how much power you hold as a Reader Of Things.

I feel like something that should have been explored more in Arcane is that despite the dangers and pretty much horrific conditions, Zaun children seemingly grow up a lot more caring and have a larger understanding of family in comparison to Piltover children. And if such a reflection of the real world in a sense.

The kids of Zaun seemingly grow up with a lot more adult support. Ekko is easily welcomed under Benzo’s wings. Vander adopts 4 kids (two of which we learn he knew of before their parents death, two of which we can’t be sure of). Silco, despite all what happened, and his ulterior motives, shows no problem adopting Powder/Jinx. In the alternate universe it seems as though he’s still played a part in the kids lives. Jinx adopts Isha easily and Sevika cares for her as well. Hell, even Mr. War Crimes Against Humanity does well with little Viktor (until ya know, the animal abuse).

Hell, up until Vander dies (the first time) there seems to be a large understanding of if there’s an orphan or a kid in need of guidance, take them in! (And certainly don’t inform them of your plans to turn a giant pink salamander into drugs and be confused when a nine year old doesn’t understand). If a kid wants to be your apprentice, let them! For the most part, until things all went wrong in the end of act 1 of season 1, the worst parts of Zaun seem pretty typical for any city in poverty.

Match that with what we see with how Caitlyn and Jayce grow up. Caitlyn is given adult support, yes, and it’s clearly a good adult mentor, but it’s not entirely by her choice. It’s been chosen for her. She’s safe, but there’s a lack of freedom of choice. Meanwhile, when Jayce gets older, and that same accident in Act 1 happens, the family that supported him and his mom turns their backs. His own mom doesn’t support him either, because she’s afraid of what he’s talking about, but also because he’s damming them to being outcasts.

Conversely, Vander is more than willing to take the fall for what Claggor, Milo, Vi and Powder did. He’s willing to go to prison for a long time, in order for them to have a better future. Despite Vi’s best efforts, he’s not going to listen to her (she is just a kid) and he’s not letting his family go down and get hurt.

Meanwhile, a man who grew up in this mentality, where there’s a wide sense of family support from people who aren’t your biological family, is the one to go to Jayce, a stranger, and tells him he believes in him. It’s why it’s such a shock to Jayce; his own family and family friends denied him. They didn’t support him.

I think that’s what makes all the difference. Piltover and Zaun have wildly different understandings of family and forgiveness. For Piltover, it shuns and damns the lives of those who upset the balance. For Zaun, it provides safety and never ending understanding.

Tuff Guys try SO hard to be all "we're not a team" and "we'll be together when it's convenient" and "it's really everyone by themselves" but then they'll have a collective mace that goes around, and they'll help each other get kills even when it's hopeless, and they turned all their attention into helping each other when one of them went under green, and they still have team meetings every start of session, and they still decided to pool their resources, and they still have a collective calling card, and in the beginning of session 7 Bdubs still says, "I know what I want, Tango knows what he wants, now what do you want?" and it's framed as a question about kills but it's not, not really, and Etho still doesn't really answer.

They say they're not a team, but they still call Etho a traitor as though you can betray something that apparently doesn't exist. They say they don't care, but Tango still tells Ren "Not gonna lie, I was going to get kinda sad that Bdubs was trying to kill me, but it's just you." (paraphrased, but still). There's that part when Tango and Bdubs are talking and they both come to the conclusion Tango can't trust him, and the thing is, Bdubs could have lied. He could have said sure you can, but he knows Tango knows because they know each other enough, because they've been a team enough times, because they are a team and that's what he'd've done.

Tuff Guys went into the alliance fully vocal about how it wouldn't work. This never leads good places for them. They're doing it anyway. They'll never admit it, not directly, not loud and clear, because it's hurt them enough times as is, but they still live next to each other and they still coordinated team attacks in session 7 and they still haven't committed to real distrust among them

All this to say that denial is a river and egypt and by god they are DIVING
