one of my favorite things about zedaph is that on a server full of people that find strange and oft-overlooked minecraft mechanics or rare events and then see just how far they can push them in the name of spectacle or efficiency or world-breaking, zed is over here finding these mechanics in order to do the weirdest things he can think of in as entertaining a manner as possible

like i 100% have faith in zedaph's theoretical ability to be just as efficient or spectacular or world-breaking. if he wanted to do that stuff, i trust that he absolutely could. but thats so far from being his priority. instead, hes going to spend around a week of irl time focused entirely on eventually having the good luck to spawn in something insanely rare so that he can convert it into something even rarer, the result of which being something that 99% of the server reacts with complete and utter shock that it even exists in the first place, just because its zany and funny and he wanted to. and i love that

Rec List: Liam-centric fics

It means the world to me how much y'all SHOWED UP for this list -- I can't express how grateful I am to see the love for Liam. With 29 fics, it is officially the second-largest list we've had all year. It has a wide range of ships, from Ziam or Larry to OT5 or Lilo, as well as genfics. I can't believe it's been a month tomorrow -- it feels like it just happened, and also like it's been forever, and also like it's still a bad dream that isn't quite real. Grief catches you in the strangest places, surprises you when you least expect it. To everyone still trying to wrap their minds around this tragedy, trying to figure out a way forward through it -- I see you, I love you, I'm glad you're here, and I support you in whatever you need.

I think it’s so ironic that the Pony Express escapes a lot if not all blame in discussion. I can’t even say I am excused from it but it’s just how hard people circle back to the characters alone without considering the environment they were made to be in.

Why would they design a ship where only two of the rooms lock? Not the bathroom? Not the sleeping quarters? We assume that all the companies in the universe are this shallow and careless to their workers but we explicitly know the Pony Express in extra vile. They are fed processed slop pack they can’t even really cook and the ration of those pack is meager at best. They hired and made people with a plethora of conflicting demeanors and beliefs work together on a mission where cohesion is important if not an outright necessity and punish them for not being happy about it. There’s no social protocols, not chain of command other than Captain’s word/choice and the only way to enforce that is with a literal firearm. They don’t allow them to celebrate freely and even took away leisure activities that would make them less stir crazy. They are only allowed a few hours of sleep despite their being no other real responsibilities or work on the ship, no matter the position or its importance. With any crew, with any level of synergy, this was a powder keg waiting for a spark.

I’m not saying characters that made mistakes didn’t make huge ones, but I think part of the horror is that at least for some (this is targeting Jimathan) those mistakes are partly made by a force of the hand. There’s a running theme of lack of choice and being forced into something and the very nature of how The Pony Express expected them to function plays a big part.

Laois protecting Marcille from the falling icicles is just the EXACT reason her and Chilchuck stayed despite everything (besides Falin for Marcille of course). Despite the two of them not understanding him, despite them being put off by his mannerisms at times, despite their varying levels of discomfort around monster food they KNOW at the end of the day Laois has their backs.

He will do everything in his power to keep his party safe with zero hesitation or convincing and he does so because he genuinely cares about them. He might not know how to time a Morale Boosting Speech for when people *dont* have a mouth full of food, but they know he'll be there for them when they need him the most.

New Category: Liam-Centric Fics

Two weeks ago, the world shifted. Although things have kept spinning, they're not the same. I have seen millions of people, young and old, new fans and grizzled veterans, in dozens of countries around the world -- all grieving together, for the loss of a kind, talented, generous man who got lost in a world that forced him to grow up too fast and offered no support when he floundered. He wasn't perfect, none of us are, but he made a positive impact on so many people -- from his musical ability to his charitable work to his individual acts of kindness in a sometimes inhumane world.

So this month, I want to remember Liam. I want to honour him. I want to celebrate him. And to that end, I would love to see your favourite fics that spotlight Liam, submitted here, for a list that will post on November 15th. He doesn't necessarily have to be the POV character, or the main ship, but he should be a pivotal part of the story -- whatever that means to you.

Millions of fans have been attending memorials, donating to charities, wearing red, listening to music, and so many other ways of connecting, with each other and with the memory of Liam. This is one more drop in the bucket, in the ocean of people who loved him.

I hope none of us ever forget Liam and what he stood for. I hope we always remember to tell the people we love how much they mean to us.

Yesterday I made a list of some of my favorite Liam fics for the 28th. There were so many good fics that I had to split this into two parts. Here are more of my favorites featuring Liam.

Liam squeezes Zayn’s hand and presses a light kiss to his fingers. He freezes when Zayn stirs, worried he’s woken him. He’s not ready to wake him. He’s enjoying being held as he wades through the memories of that first night he'd held Zayn. Held him so properly and thoroughly that he had fallen asleep still holding him tightly. That night of pizza and beer and unadulterated flirting, when their playfulness had taken on a greater significance. It had felt revelatory. Like it was all finally – fucking finally – happening. --- Liam wakes up in Zayn’s arms and reminisces about some of their “firsts.”

It’s not easy, the life of a long-distance trucker, but Liam wouldn’t change it for the world. He’s also gotten to see some truly amazing things. Sunsets over the mountains. Bison in Montana and moose in Maine. Bald eagles and double rainbows. Beautiful sights, at times even awe-inspiring, but they pale in comparison to the car driving next to him.

This one has more young adults, most likely college students. Girls with pink hair, guys with long hair. Then, Liam sees him.

Liam feels his face go bright red again as he hastily rips off the note and crumples it in his fist. He glances around the table, but thankfully no one seems to be paying him any attention. They’re all wrapped up in their own food items or listening to whatever their boss is talking about. (Or the one where Liam and Louis are best bros who end up getting married so that Liam has the insurance he needs to go to rehab. Now that he’s sober, they can get divorced. But do they want to?)

It’s the one night a year where their horns or talons are considered to be part of a costume. Zayn is a 111 year old demon who is trying to decide his future. Liam is a 17 year old human struggling with his own life. Two people from completely different worlds, yet they find a little piece of home in one another. But nothing’s ever quite that simple, is it?
